He'll make them pay. Look at this crowd right AWESO
you get that you get here.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
It is June.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
It is June, and we are two and a half
hours from Lexington on the Lake and a packed house
here at Mike's Landing. If there's a better symbol of
how big big Blue Nation is, I don't know what
it is than here.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
Third year, or only been to Mike's landing. The weather
has been spectacular all three times.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
And look at this crowd.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
Man, they come out in full force, wearing their blue
ready to celebrate another good KSR on Dale.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Hollow Lake down here. This is close to Kentucky and Tennessee.
They make the Mike and Benita have owned this since
nineteen seventy, eighth year I was born.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
It's uh.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
The colors are blue and orange for Kentucky and Tennessee.
But I asked the crowd earlier today, no vault fans here.
I could tell because there was no No one smelled.
It was perfect and we are glad to be here.
Drew that we last year I missed this because I
was in Europe this morning, got up six point thirty
to drive down here.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Made my way through dense fall in this area to
uh to get here.
Speaker 6 (02:04):
Exact same thing. I missed it last year two years ago.
Had an absolute blast we did the night before. I
love being here this morning, but Mike's Landing looks like
a place that at nighttime you could have a little
fun too.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Remember two years ago, we were here the night before Shannon,
and it was kind of a wild night.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
We locked Billy in his bath, that's right.
Speaker 7 (02:21):
I missed doing that. I was hoping he would come
down last night and get locked in there again. But yeah,
this is the place that we partied at a couple
of years ago, and this is the place you want
to come if you're down in this area.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
So they have thirty log rental cabins, thirty two campsites,
and then Mike's Landing here. We've been to a lot
of these sort of docks. This is the nicest. This
is the nicest ride restaurant that is part of one
of these down here at Mike's Landy.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
You know when we said that the first time we
came down three years ago, we're like, wow, we were
kind of blown away. It's just so beautiful this part
of the state. Cumberland County is kind of good little.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
So you want to get here, Yeah, you got it.
You gotta want to get to Cumberland County. I had
never been until I did my my book and everybody
this was this was one of my favorite little areas
that with Clinton County close to here too. Yes, so
they're right next to each other. And I kind of
do you got some Clinton County people? That's right, you know,
(03:14):
I do have a fact about Clinton County. Clinton County
has the greatest, the highest percentage of people that go
to church of any county in the United States.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
In the United States.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Yes, I want to say like ninety two or ninety
three percent of the people that go to church that
live in Clinton County go to Wow.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
All right, who are the three people not going?
Speaker 4 (03:34):
So they're probably here at Mike's landing on Thursday nights and.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
They can't get to church on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
Well, Cumberland County is one of those county where the
city of Cumberland is not in Cumberland County. And I
thought this county was like in southeastern Kentucky somewhere, just
because that's where the city is.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
But it's I know, very very little about this area,
I think, and somebody can tell me if I'm wrong.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
At one point, the major before I seventy five, the
major highway that went north south.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
America came through Cumberland County.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
I have heard, and no one's shaking their heads, so
that may have been a lie. But but there this
used to be a way to get from north to south,
and then with I seventy five, that changed.
Speaker 7 (04:11):
I think you can get here a by boat. I
think that's the best way to get here now. Right,
They're gonna have a big boat show, by the way,
they said at ten o'clock, so I'm expecting some.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Boats because we're on Central time, Solock.
Speaker 8 (04:22):
Then Eastern time, we'll have some boat rolls.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
So there's gonna be a boat show. Yeah. Are we
not on Central time? We are? We are, That's what
I said. So it's not in an hour for cool.
We will will do it.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Well, listen there, we got a lot of little stuff
to get to eight five nine two eight h twenty
two eighty seven. But I wanted to start with I'm
stealing this from another podcast I heard, and I want
everyone and Rick, I'm even gonna let you go on
record on this Rick. I had some one of my
friends say that you are sometimes their favorite part of
(04:57):
the show. They don't we don't use you enough. So Rick,
are you ready to be part of this?
Speaker 3 (05:02):
I'm ready. You sound like it. I am. I think
that's I think that's right. That's Rick excited.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
That is Rick excited. Okay, so this is a Ryan
go on record. You have to go on record, and
whatever your answer is, it sticks. And I'm going to
write him down and I will sure, I'll forget it,
but we will still go on record.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Right you have to decide right now that I'm afraid
what's coming now. You have to decide right now.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
What is the next year that Kentucky basketball wins a championship?
What is the next year you have to decide. You
go on record right now. What you can't say, Oh,
they might do it here, they might do it here.
You are, You've got your biff from Back to the
Future with the book looking back at sports history. What
(05:53):
is the next year that Kentucky wins a college basketball title?
Speaker 5 (05:58):
I'm gonna say, we just signed you just signed a
five year deal.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
I didn't, but Mark Pope did. You did too with
the radio station. I did good. Point.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
So I didn't know that I would have any effect
on whether or not they won.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
But okay, so my answer is gonna be the last
the next year after that contract, so in six years
as the KSR effect six years.
Speaker 8 (06:19):
So you think that the day he's off the air,
that's why would you say that.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
That's the worst answer you could say.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
We did say, wait, we have a great take the
most depressing answer.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
No, you guys took it, but I said it wrong.
Speaker 8 (06:33):
Yes, I'm sure you out of retirement for that. I think.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
No, we have a great five years, Pope has a
greate five years, and that next year we're not.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
We're not going anywhere.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
We're still here. That's when they win it. The one
the next year, it'll be the next an. We got
to pick something. I just picked that one.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
He's on record, on that record, watch me win it.
I'll be the winner, all right.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
So that would be twenty six, twenty seven, twenty nine.
You're saying twenty one, twenty thirty.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
One, that's it, that's the winner, all right, twenty thirty one.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
I think he could have said that without blaming it
on me, But that's all right, twenty thirty one.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Drew Franklin next Kentucky title.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
I have a visual of senior Trent Noah lifting Kentucky's
next national championship, which would be the year twenty twenty
eight if my math is right there, So I will
say the Trent Noah walk Off Championships.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
That's interesting, Trent Noah walkoff championship.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
I like that, you know, to his legend status. I
like that. I think that's actually a very good one.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
We tend to win in even years, first of all,
seventy eight, ninety six, ninety eight, twenty twelve. Today, they
tend to be in even years. So that's good. All right,
So twenty twenty eight, Shannon, what about you?
Speaker 7 (07:48):
If you look at pass champions it's usually a team
that's been knocking on the.
Speaker 8 (07:52):
Door for a couple of years at least.
Speaker 7 (07:54):
Right, So I'm gonna say that by twenty twenty nine.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Twenty twenty nine, so it'll be the year after Trentdough. Yeah,
all right, So we got twenty eight, we got twenty nine,
we got thirty one. Rick, what about you, I'm.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Gonna say twenty twenty seven. Oh, listen to nice Rick
site saying.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Popis you know you could see that because they they've
brought in a couple of these guys that are probably
gonna be.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Two year players.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Right, uh Oway would be gone, but you could you
could conceivably have a lot of these guys that they
just brought in back the next year.
Speaker 6 (08:27):
Even the best freshman in that class.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Yeah, I mean, you can even get Jalen Lowe back
at your point guard Win Faery, so that's not crazy.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
Yeah, there's a couple of superstars in that recruiting class
that would be freshman if Kentucky could get them, So
that could help out.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Right, So we got uh Rick twenty seven, Drew twenty eight,
Chan and twenty nine Ryan thirty. I was going to
take Ryan's same scale but be a little bit more positive,
which was gonna say they were going to go out
my last year that I was potentially gonna go out
and win in twenty thirty uh and take a title
that year. So we all think so we all believe
(09:01):
it will be in within the next five to six years, everybody,
does everybody feel confident about that?
Speaker 3 (09:06):
I feel very confident about that.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Okay, now let me move it to a different one.
When's the next time we get to a Final four
I want you to give me the year we get
to a final four.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Since Ryan's depressing, I'll let you go first.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
Sure, I will go ahead and say the year twenty
and twenty six, Matt Jones. Yeah, this year, this year,
this year, finally Simmis, but they get to the final four.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Okay, all right, I like that shit.
Speaker 7 (09:30):
I'm gonna agree. I think the same thing. You look
at the schedule that they have. They're gonna be battle
tested going into March. They've got a great roster. Otega's
coming back. I think they go this year, all.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Right, Rick, twenty twenty six is what I had even
got it, all right, Mine was gonna be twenty twenty
six as well. I think we go to a final
four this year. I think he has the roster to
do it. Ryan, Are you gonna make it a sweet.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Make it eanimous? This year twenty twenty six? Absolutely, Indianapolis.
Speaker 8 (09:56):
I thought you were gonna say the year after Matt retires,
after we went our you were.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Gonna say twenty thirty one.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Okay, Now, let me flip gears or switch gears for
a second football.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
Oh no, don't make us do this.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
What is the next year?
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Shandon I'll let you go first, that Kentucky wins eight
games during the regular season, goes eight and four in
the regular season, what's it gonna be.
Speaker 7 (10:22):
I don't think Mark Stoops will be here, so I
don't know who our coach would even be at that time.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
I have to guess though, Remember in football season, we
still have the twenty twenty five season to go, so like,
you got one more year, but go.
Speaker 7 (10:32):
Ahead, twenty forty two. Don't ask me why. I'm just
saying a random number, because let men.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Take till twenty forty two to win eight games.
Speaker 7 (10:43):
How many years did it take to get to eight
wins before Mark Stoops?
Speaker 8 (10:48):
A long time? Right, remember all those four and eight years? Fine,
I guess how.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Long was it between eight win seasons? Was it seventy
eight to two thousand?
Speaker 7 (10:59):
Okay, you just made my point, So we're thinking realistically,
that's a lot.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Like I think you're right about that. All right, what
have met you, Drew.
Speaker 6 (11:09):
I'm gonna say I'm gonna be optimistic. I'm gonna say
twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Twenty seven, so not so three years from now.
Speaker 8 (11:16):
I will say seven or twenty six.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
There's a new coach and they use that excitement to
build up the bank roll and in year two have
a big year and then we figure out what's next
From there. I ride the wave of a new hire
for a couple of years.
Speaker 5 (11:30):
Ryan, you just signed a five year contract. Pope just
signed a five year contract. So twenty twenty, twenty thirty one,
I'm staying with the same year you're Lodge.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Hopes signing a new contract. That's gonna be why the
football team wins game.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Why not twenty twenty one, twenty thirty one? I mean
twenty thirty one, I Rick, I'm gonna say twenty twenty nine.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Twenty twenty nine, Okay, I like who said twenty eight
or twenty twenty seventy seven?
Speaker 6 (11:56):
New coach? You're riding that wave.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
I like.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
I like twenty seven because either stoops will get it
back on track and we'll have it back where we
need to be with investment in twenty seven, or you
have a new coach and you do that all right.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Last question, when is.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
The next year Kentucky is looking for a new basketball coach.
Give me the next year that Kentucky hires a basketball coach,
Ryan Limit.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
Everybody says this job has a ten year shelf life.
So I'm gonna just say in ten years from now,
twenty thirty six.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Twenty thirty six, so that would give him an eleven
year career, Shannon.
Speaker 7 (12:32):
I think he stays here about fifteen years. I'm gonna say,
I guess the math would be twenty forty, then twenty forty,
all right.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
About saying I'll say twenty thirty nine, just to be different.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
All right, and then Rick twenty thirty five. So you
were with right.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
One of the things I like about Mark Pope is
and this could be exhausting with Rick Patino. It was
exhausting with cal and Tubby didn't do it till the end,
but it happened some with Tubby at the end is
what will he go?
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Will he won't he go? Mark Pope will never leave
this job until.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
He's either fired or retired, right like he You're not
gonna have to worry about.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Yeah, I think that's positive.
Speaker 6 (13:12):
She's wearing a Mark Pope's shirt.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
There are very few.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
I think there's very few coaches. You could how many
coaches in America? Could you even say that about in theory.
I don't think there's very many. I think Mark Pope
is one of them. So I'm just gonna say, like
twenty thirty eight because I think he will do. I
think he'll do fifteen years here, and I think he'll
be here. I feel confident he will retire in this job.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
You're right.
Speaker 7 (13:37):
I mean, if ever there were a coach in our
lifetime that would not leave for another job, it's Mark Pope.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (13:42):
The only guy played here. He loves being here.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
How many how many coaches in sports do you think
you can say that about where they are coaching. I mean,
I know Mike Krzyzewski ended up not leaving, but he
considered the Lakers a couple of times. I mean, there
were always people they would live. Tom is a listened
at Michigan State. I would think Drew. I don't even
know if he would.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Listen to any of those jobs.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Maybe he would, Maybe there's an NBA job he would,
but I kind of doubt it.
Speaker 6 (14:10):
Yeah, I doubt it too. I mean you almost have
to look at anybody that's a player coaching, maybe a
John Shire, anyone that played where they're coaching right now.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
See, I could see John Shire in the NBA at NBA.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
Ye, Yeah, I can't imagine Pope would entertain another college.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Yeah, I can't either, so that is a cool thing
to about him. Here is we don't have to worry
about that stuff anymore. The sun is coming out.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Yeah, it is a.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Beautiful day here at Dale Hall Resort. We are at
Mike's Landing restaurant. Nearly a full house. If you're around,
I don't think you're just driving in the area. But
if you want to come down, you can still get
here and get a table.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
There's a couple left. We'll take a break and be
right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Mike's Landing
at Sulfur Creek. Let's see this decibel meter that I've
always this has been up here for a few years.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Let's try this. Let's see how low we can get it. Ready,
are we gonna beat Louisville this year?
Speaker 4 (15:06):
There we go one hundred and twelve decibels we get
here at at Mike's.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Lady, I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Text machine is seven seven two uh seven seven five
two five four one person.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Rights, Matt.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
I work with a group of U of l fans.
You have made them matter this week that I've ever
seen them. I want to thank you for that. I
don't know why, in this time of goodness they get
so mad at you, but I think it's hilarious.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Well, because we're here.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
In Berksville and we have a bigger crowd than most
of their shows could get in their in their house.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
I mean, if they had it in their living room,
they couldn't get this your game day on a game.
I mean, like that's why.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
It's the same reason yesterday we were talking about Steven A.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Smith.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
The reason we talk about Stephen A. Smith is for
better or worse, he matters. You know, no offense to
to the Louisville folks, but they get frustrated because Kentucky
and be and KSR matters. And it seems like that
Lakers Clippers thing Drew made them the maddest.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
But the point is still the same.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Just like, just like Clippers fans talk about the Lakers
more than Lakers fans talk about the Clippers.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
You have the exact same thing happening here.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
I really didn't expect them to react to comment the
way they did, but I've seen a lot of people
upset with the Clippers comparison.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
They get really mad, but I think it's a compliment.
The Clippers are good.
Speaker 6 (16:25):
Yeah, they're still on the league.
Speaker 7 (16:27):
You know they are still league exists, but nobody's gonna
buy them for ten billion dollars, just like a level right.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Yeah, that's a good point. Lakers sell for ten billion dollars.
Do you think the Clippers would.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Get ten billion dollars? No?
Speaker 4 (16:39):
If Kentucky was a private entity you could buy, do
you think it would go more for more than Louisville.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Yes, of course it would. Now that doesn't even I.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Don't understand, Like I'm the one person in the Kentucky
fan base who will say Louisville's the seventh best program
of all time, Like I will give it compliments, but
facts are facts, and so.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
You know, it is what it is, and they make
it it's too easy for us. A lot of the
things that happened just well, we're gonna do ignore it. No,
we're gonna talk about it.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
I will say I got a message, where's Mario? I
got a message that one of the Louisville shows today was.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Going after you. That's how to get me angry.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
You can tell whatever you want about me, But if
they start, yes, that they were like going after Mario,
So like we.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Can they go after cute little Mario?
Speaker 4 (17:19):
Well, probably because you say things like that, but uh,
he's he's a grown up.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
You don't call him cute little Mario like he's good.
He's good.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
But but that's a good way to Actually I haven't
you know, I haven't heard it, but that's a good.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Way to to make people upset.
Speaker 6 (17:33):
This you got me fired. I'm about to hop in
one of these boats and head to Louisville and think
the water connects. But you got me ready to go
fight somebody.
Speaker 7 (17:38):
Yes, the pinball machine. I went back and listened to
the podcast that Mario set off.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Yes, you could hear it. You could.
Speaker 7 (17:45):
I took it out. You were listening yesterday. You know
what I'm talking about.
Speaker 8 (17:50):
Fiction.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
I hope it didn't go over there, but you know,
if it did, that's okay.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
All right, So I have a question for you before
you go the phones.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
If I'm nine two twenty two eighty seven, have you
seen the video of Kelsey Plume, the w NBA player
and the autograph seekers outside of the hotel? All right,
So she is outside of her hotel getting ready to
to to go back and forth before you know, she's
in some town to play a game and there is
an autograph secret.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Like an old guy.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
He's got one of these, you know, binders full of
cards and he wants them to sign it. Clearly somebody
who's probably wanting to sell it. It's not a group
of little kids or little girls. This is clearly like
somebody wants to sell it. And she gets kind of
angry at him because he keeps yelling, and she kind
of goes off on him a little bit, and uh,
it's and it's basically it's not a great look. She's
(18:42):
kind of going off on him at the same time
he is outside of her hotel, kind of I think,
creeping her out a little bit.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
What did you make of it? And who's in the
right and who's in the role?
Speaker 6 (18:53):
She called him weird.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Uh, she said, you're being weird.
Speaker 6 (18:56):
Yeah, And the clip I saw it wasn't too aggressive.
I kind of feel like, you know, they talk talk
about wanting to be on the same level as the NBA.
If you want to be that kind of superstar, there're
gonna be people wanting autographs when you walk in your hotel.
So I would tell her she should almost appreciate it
because they were.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Just a little different.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
If it's a woman and it's like she's by herself
and it's old dudes yelling at her.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
It looked like she had people with her. If he
did anything appropriate, I'd have a different stance. But from
what I saw, it was just people wanting autographs. Maybe
they had intentions of selling them, but if you want
to be a superstar.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
They comply had like a bond or something.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Do you think it is weird to stand outside of
if you're not with like a little kid, right, if
you're an adult by yourself, Do you think it's weird
to stand outside of an athlete's hotel hoping to see
them coming in or out.
Speaker 8 (19:44):
Yes, it's really weird.
Speaker 7 (19:45):
And these autograph seekers that collect autographs are very aggressive.
You'll see pushing kids to the side to be able
to get their autograph. You know, it's crazy, So yeah,
I think it's it's when it.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Is inappropriate too.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
Is it ever appropriate to wait out side like a
hotel for anyone.
Speaker 7 (20:03):
Well, first of all, you have to know where they're at,
So that tells me you already did some recon and
that's a little creepy in its own right. That you
had to look up where somebody is staying in their hotel.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
Yeah, well, every UK trip I get a message what's
the team hotel?
Speaker 5 (20:16):
Yeah, I do too, Like, I don't know, but maybe
it's hard for us because we're not a woman for
a woman and may be totally different. You come out
of the hotel and there's some grown men creeping on you,
screaming at you, coming at you aggressively.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
I can see it maybe bother you a little bit.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
I think it's perfectly fine to ask someone for an autograph,
but you also have to be perfectly fine if they
say no. Yeah, and you know, I mean, I do
think that that sometimes with especially with big stars, that
there's an expectation that they that they're going to sign.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Like I don't have a I think it's weird to
wait outside somebody's hotel.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
But if you run into somebody and you say to them,
can I have your autograph? I think that's fine. But
if they say no, like you can't get mad at them.
And I think what happens is sometimes people get mad
like they just need to stop what they're doing at
any given moment to do that.
Speaker 7 (21:05):
To do that, if you're at a game, he asked,
we're autograph. Absolutely, if you run up to him at
an airport, at.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
An airport, that's fine.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Even in a restaurant, I wouldn't go to their table,
But if you get them coming in or out, I'm
okay with it.
Speaker 7 (21:17):
When you're waiting two three hours outside of somebody's hotel
room waiting for them to come out, just stalking them, basically, that's.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Better to me.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
I mean, you know, and so I actually kind of
she was a little rude to him.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
But I actually kind of was on her side.
Speaker 6 (21:31):
So there are people that wait outside the lodge.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
No, I've seen that there are people here will standing
outside of the UK Basketball lodge waiting for the players
to come out.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
I find that like kind of odd behavior. Who's up next?
Mofa is up next? Moffing, go ahead, maffing.
Speaker 9 (21:51):
Hey man, how are you all doing today?
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Doing good?
Speaker 10 (21:56):
I listen to the podcast all week, and you've been
speaking to my soul about this dog situation.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
No, no, you had to bring up the dog me
out here go aheads.
Speaker 8 (22:07):
Well.
Speaker 10 (22:08):
I delivered boxes out of a brown truck for a living,
and so.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Every time somebody told.
Speaker 9 (22:16):
Me, oh, you know, that's just a little Parky, he don't,
he won't buy a biscuit, and then a little sarky
saw him.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
At the mouth trying to eat my ankles up part
of the tile.
Speaker 4 (22:25):
Right now, dude, I, first of all, I could never
be a UPS worker or a post office worker for
that very reason. You have to deal with everybody's dogs.
And again, Drew, everyone thinks their dog is cute. Nobody's like,
my dog is hideous, my dog is dangerous. Everybody thinks
their dog is cute, and clearly their dog barks, so
(22:47):
somebody's dog's not cute.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
I appreciate the call.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
I sympathize with you, sir, for UPS workers who have
to like walk right up next to them. That's a
tough gig. We'll take a break. Be right back here
at Mike's landing. This is ks R water Back.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Live at Mike's Landing in Would you call this, I mean,
would you call it? This is not Burksville? What would
you just say? Cumberland County? Is that what we do
here in Cumberland County? Beautiful day, This is gonna be
an awesome weekend. It's gonna be hot, but otherwise beautiful
lot going on the Lexington the Lexington Sporting Club game tonight.
(23:24):
It'll be on ESPN two as well. You got festivals
going on in Lexington and Louisville and lots of good stuff.
Are Reds my Reds playing your Cardinals as well in
Saint Louis.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
I listened to the Garats game when it started yesterday
because I knew you were there. It was like home
run derby.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Just so high. It was very hot, but a lot
of fun.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
Uh, great crowd, they had huge crowds for all three games.
I went to all three of them. Piece of news
here well, First of all, a couple of things. Where
is uh, where's Jonathan in the crowd? Twenty second birthday
for Jonathan birthday?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Happy birthday over there.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
Happy birthday to Jonathan twenty two years old. I'm sure
you're gonna have a very calm weekend here at nice
and relaxing here at Sulver Creek, and with that crowd,
it looks like it's gonna be very calm.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
I can tell.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
How about an interesting piece of news. Dan Skirka, the
baseball coach. He's been on here twice over the last
few weeks at Murray State is returning to Murray State.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Ryan Lemon signs an extension.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
For four years. They raised his pay from sixty five thousand.
I think that's good news to one hundred and eighty
thousand dollars. Duke offered him two hundred thousand. Remember, Murray
beat Duke to go to the College World Series. Duke
then tried to hire him. I guess they saw him
beat him right there in front of their face and
tried to hire him, and Murray State matched the money
(24:45):
they offered and kept him. Good for Murray State, but
also good for Dan Skirker for staying in Murray Yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
I'm sure Duke wondered him after they saw what he
did to their program. But if that was the only
option and Murray State decided to match it, that tells
me that he's very loyal to Murray State. Now he's
the highest paid coach in the conference. They'll probably have
great recruiting success now just based on what they just did,
So they probably have great seasons for years to come.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Everybody says they're loyal until the bunny comes. He actually
stayed almost no one. Drew stays almost no one, and
he actually did.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
Yeah, watching their postseason run. Even really before they got
to Omaha, when they were still at all miss, I
was thinking, this guy's making himself a lot of money
putting Murray State on the half like this. A lot
of his players too, I'm sure, have done well, and
I would have expected him to make a jump to
a better level. But good for him for sticking around.
I know it's been a little exaggerated, like they say
Moe's and everything.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Yeah he said here, you weren't on here. He said
he didn't. I heard that was debunked.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
But he's been a very cool story. He said all
the right things in Omaha too.
Speaker 7 (25:43):
I didn't even know who Dan Skirka was three weeks ago,
but we've had him on the show twice and he
seems like a really cool guy, great coach, and I'm
happy for him and staying at Murray that's great.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Who's up next? Rick? Cody is up now? Cody? Go ahead, Cody,
Hey man, how are you doing? I'm good. Just assume
I'm good and go ahead.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
Yeah, doing good.
Speaker 10 (26:04):
In Cincinnati, won nine out of last twelve, got a
chance to take over the Cardinal.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Yes they do.
Speaker 10 (26:11):
I'm excited about that. But quick question on Vince mart Merrow.
They were saying that locker room was the biggest problem.
I'm sorry, but if you're a coach for Kentucky and
you go to the Red Team, was your heart ever
really in it at Kentucky?
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Well, I I appreciate the call.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
I mean, my view about Ryan about coaches is with
a hand.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
With a couple of exceptions, a guy like.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Mark Pope who went here, they're all to some extent
hired guns. Now that doesn't mean that they didn't really
care about it when they were here. I think they did.
I think Vince loved Kentucky. I think Vince loved being here.
I think Vince bled blue. But it's not like us,
you know, It's it's not the same. It's still a job.
(26:58):
And the best way I can describe it is if
I let's say that I started doing radio, and I
didn't start it in Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
I just got a job.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
And let's say I became the play by play broadcaster
for you know again Colorado. I was into Colorado. I
love Colorado. Colorado's the best. Go Colorado. I want the
Buffaloes to win. I'm all in on Colorado. And then
all of a sudden Alabama gives me a job offer,
or even Colorado State for double the money. I'm not
(27:32):
from there, like I'm gonna you know, it's I might
do it. So we always have to remember that, yes, Ryan,
they can bleed blue, they can love Kentucky, but it's
still just the job for them, whereas.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
For us, it's a passion.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
And that will always be the case for nearly every
coach with a handful of.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Except yeah, Events maybe the only guy that maybe it's
leaving some people with a bad taste in milcause we
felt like he was one of us, like he was
on our side.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
But we should honest he remember Shannon that that should
we should never assume that, right, you know, I mean,
they can be one of us until they're not. It's
like being in a marriage. You can love them and
just tell you don't anymore. Like I feel like that's
kind of how it is.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
Sometimes the only guy that I'm going to assume that
for is Mark Pope because he because he played he's different, right.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
He played here, But that's it. But that's unique.
Speaker 7 (28:23):
Yeah, But the thing about Bett's merrow is that for
so many years he was the most outspoken, the most
anti Louisal of probably all of our coaches, and then
to see him leave and go directly to Louisll It's
just kind of weird.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Three straight nights, I've gotten to picture him at dinner.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
Oh I didn't get one.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
I got another one last.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Night, Jeff Rubies for the second time in three nights
I've got I don't know. I don't know if people
are following him around or they're just all city, but
I've gotten it now, three straight nights, three different tables,
So it's not I can tell.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
It's not the same picture. Every time saw Doc.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
Crows for lunch. Another kid's really struggling with the with
the L. I saw another one where it's.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
More of the l was more like it's like he
can't make his hand do it. He goes. I just
I just can't put the l up I had saw online.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
One of the Louisville people say, I've never seen Kentucky
fans this upset since they lost to us and they
picked some game.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Do you feel like it's been that bad?
Speaker 4 (29:18):
I mean, we part of this is because it happens
in June and there's nothing else going on, and you
end up talking a lot about do you get the
sense though fans are hurt or just like ain't like
what do you think the Kentucky fan emotion is.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Betrayal? I think we just feel.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
It's a strong word. I think it's one. A lot
of it is. You know, it felt like, like I
said earlier, he felt like he was.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
One of us. He didn't like Louisville. He was the
L's down. He was in your face.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
Talking Schmack to the Louisville when he went in a
recruiting battle against him. Now I almost feel like betrayed, like, man,
well you just deceiving us the whole time.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
Well, I knew he almost went twice before, so I
knew Drew this was a possibility. So I mean, I
was surprised, but I was not shocked because I thought
he was gonna leave. I honestly thought he was gonna
leave in December, and then he decided to stay. I
think I told you when we got in the car
to start our drive to the Gonzaga game, I was like,
I think he's probably gonna end up there, and then
he changed his mind. So I'm surprised, but you know, again,
(30:14):
loved the dude. But Vince is gonna go where Vince
is gonna go for Vince, you know, I think.
Speaker 6 (30:20):
His timming's helping him a little bit. If he had
done this three years ago, before the program was on
such a downslide, I think he'll be a lot more upset. Yeah,
Cooper are definitely still upset and betrayed. But there's just
a lot of the fan base that is just ready
for all this to be over with. In another regime,
they don't have high hopes for the season, so the
Vince move is just like something else to add to
the list of I.
Speaker 7 (30:40):
Think half the fan base is angry. The other half
is trying to go well, who cares. But you can't
downplay his significance to recruiting for Kentucky football all those years.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
You cannot downplay what he did the first ten years.
I think it is an open question to ask in
today's transfer portal world, does it matter as much? Does
it matter much now where you're paying money? Do the
personal relationships matter as much when ultimately you're writing a
check and people can go, well, I do really like them,
(31:12):
but this is twice as much money. I mean, I
do think they're I think it matters, but I'm not
sure it matters like it did five years ago, quite
the same way we said forever.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
Vince is so good at going into a high school
players living room, meeting the family, showing them how he'll
protect him at the next level. He was a big
living room guy. But living rooms don't matter as much anymore.
Some guys just straight up say what am I getting paid?
And that's how they pick their school.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
Speaking of the money these next ten days, I don't
I don't know that people realize what all is going
on in the next ten days because the so starting
July first, all the deals have to go through this
clearing house. But the thing is, if you get it
done before July first, it doesn't So a lot of
(31:58):
these schools are right now big checks to players right now, yep,
because it doesn't really start till July first. There was
a story this morning about the University of Missouri. The
University of Missouri is that they had to release financial records.
They have eleven million dollars going out in the month
of June for players next year. Wow, Because starting July first,
(32:22):
it has to change.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
So you're you've seen and you're gonna continue to see.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
Drew, guys commit I wouldn't be shocked if we have
a basketball player or to commit for the next year,
or football players. What you might be going, why are
there so many commitment We got like six football commitments
in a week. It's because of this. You got like
nine more days before the new rules are not implemented.
Speaker 6 (32:45):
That's a rush for a money grab, especially if you're
one that can commit early, change your mind on down
the road. At least gets something in writing now or
agreed upon before it goes to the clearinghouse.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Yeah, and the collectives, they're like, I mean, collectives are
like furiously trying to raise money in the next nine
or ten d It's it's if starting July first, this
is all gonna be better, But you still have ten
days Shannon of the Wild West Coming, which is still
going on.
Speaker 8 (33:10):
If I'm a player, I'm like, hey, let's get that
money now.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
If you're a player right now, you're like, okay, I
got ten days to get the most.
Speaker 8 (33:21):
This is probably the last time.
Speaker 3 (33:22):
That's unless a court overturns it.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
This is I mean, you're still gonna get the money,
but like now there's gonna be essentially a salary cap basically,
But you got ten days here where you don't, and
so you know, if you have a kid who's gonna
be a senior in high school, if they haven't signed yet,
do it because because now's the time. The NBA Finals
Game seven is Sunday. It's your last chance to bet
(33:46):

Speaker 6 (34:10):
Oh, I've been so bad, lost to Big Parlay last night.
I'll say the Thunder, but I'm I'm cold.
Speaker 8 (34:16):
Yeah, in Oklahoma City, the Thunder win. Sorry, Ryan, you.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Guys keep picking them. Pacers. Pacers are for real? Rick,
who's winning? Stole there?
Speaker 4 (34:22):
S Pacers? You're wrong, Rick, It's gonna be the thunder.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
Come down here into God's Country.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
Where it's beautiful, right next to Cumberland County on the
lake Sulfur Creek, Mike's Landing.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
This is where you want to go. Thirty two campsites,
thirty log Reddle cabins.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
The only hard place to find a place apart because
there's so many people here.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
But other than that.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
You can't ask for anything else here at at Sulfur Creek,
they're gonna have the boat show coming on here in
just a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
In Mario, you need to take that group.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
And go somewhere a little so that they're not getting
through the microphone here.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
I would have thought that Mario would get yelled at
before Bob and Jamestown.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
That's true. Bob and Jamestown has been quiet over there
right now.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
He If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two, eighty seven,
real quick before I go, the phone's UK.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
The Hair Leader.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
Released all the quarter century UK football team. So these
are the This is the best players since two thousand,
so from two thousand to twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
See if you want to if you agree with the selections.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
First of all, quarterback Andre Woodson picked over uh, Jared
Lorenz and Will Levis. Those are probably the three biggest
choices they go with Andre Woodson.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
You good with it.
Speaker 6 (36:13):
I'm good with that. Jared's my guy, but I'm good
with it.
Speaker 7 (36:17):
I would have picked Jared personally, but maybe that's because
of Andre.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
One more.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
I mean, Andre had very successful I think Andre's probably
the right choice.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Do you agree?
Speaker 5 (36:26):
Andre had that one good year, but man, Jared was
a four year starter, set records in.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Two really good years. Yeah, one awesome.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Yeah, I can't. I cannot pick Jared. I'd have to
pick Jared.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
You cannot pick Jared. You have to pick Jared.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
Yes, I cannot pick against Jared's Okay, there we go.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
All right, wide receiver, they picked Keenan Burton and Randall Cobb.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
You good with that?
Speaker 4 (36:46):
Two names and popped in my head Cobb utility player.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
Lynn Boden, good with that. Yeah, I don't even know who.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
If you're gonna put Randall Cobb as a receiver, then
you got to put Lyn Bowden as the utility running back.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
Thought a little bit controversial.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
Benny Snell and Raffael Little over Chris Rodriguez.
Speaker 8 (37:08):
Wow, yeah, I'm taken. Chris Rodriguez.
Speaker 5 (37:12):
You know, you could make an argument even Ray Davis,
he holds the single season touchdown record.
Speaker 8 (37:16):
Now it's just.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Surprized by Rafael Little. Yeah, he was good, but surprised.
Speaker 5 (37:21):
He had as many receiving yards out of the back
of as he did rushing yards. Maybe that's why.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Uh Sinner Drake Jackson over John Toath and Luke Fortner.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
Well, Freddie Maggert might have been talked about that he's
John colth Thanks.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
John Toath and Luke Fortner had NFL careers.
Speaker 6 (37:36):
I mean this is a crew right here. These are
three to be very proud of.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
That's tough.
Speaker 6 (37:42):
But Drake when he was here was special.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
I'm good with it.
Speaker 6 (37:44):
I mean the other two headed.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
I want to take John TOAF but I still think
Drake's right there and Luke Forardner may have been the
best of all of them going to the next level.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
So uh tackles Landing Young and Darrin Knnard.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
Both NFL guys hard to argue against. Both of them
are both still in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Yard Larry Warford and Bunchie Stallings war.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Still in the NFL tight end.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
Jacob Tammy gotta be that no one else has really
performed at that position.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
We have.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
Else.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
I don't think we threw anyone else a point. Uh
defensive line.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
Josh hair Leader, you got to fix your app seriously
like this, it never works. I can't even get it
put up. Well, let me do the easy ones then
punter Max Duffy, Oh yeah, kick returner Bearing Brown.
Speaker 8 (38:35):
Yes, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Probably punt returner Derek Abney.
Speaker 6 (38:39):
Oh yeah, definitely.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Derek Abney is without it.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
He kind of he kind of gets a few years,
he kind of gets both of them. I'd love to
give you the defensive team, but I can't get the
app to work. But we'll maybe do those in the
second hour. Who's next, Rick Harold, you hald leader, you
have the worst website.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Go ahead.
Speaker 9 (39:00):
I love the l A reference of the Lakers and
Clippers for Kentucky and Louisill. I always thought that Kentucky
was more like Diesel and Louisill is like the fake diesel.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Little is better than the fake diesel. Okay, I mean
Louisville has had I'm taking up.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
Remote. Yeah, they're a.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Little better than fake fake diesel. By the way, was
Caine in real life, So just so you know.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
But go ahead.
Speaker 9 (39:26):
Yeah, talking about I wasn't able to call in yesterday,
but the UK blunders or sports blunders and mentioning Jared
Lorenzen that UK Florida game, Well we're up twenty one
to three. I was actually at that game, and you know,
he just kind of he's being sacked and he just
hurls it up in the air and it's the pickstick.
(39:47):
We end up losing the game. Yeah, that's that's Yeah,
that was tough one.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
But I mean that was That's just a bad play.
I don't think if that's a blunder exactly.
Speaker 8 (39:57):
That's not how we remember.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
I mean that was that was.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
That was just I think the guy falling down is
a lot more of a blunder.
Speaker 9 (40:05):
If you got just a minute. I was actually, like
I said, I was at the game as a recruit
and pre game, you know, he's going through warm ups,
Jared the Remsens just felling like you know, little slams,
little out routes to warm up. He throws it so
hard and goes through the receiver's hand on the out
route and recruits standing next to me and breaks through notes.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Really I didn't know that story. I can see it though.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
He he I appreciate the call. He he could throw
it hard. I mean literally there. I've heard receivers that
played with him in the NFL say he threw the
hardest football of anybody in the NFL. I can totally
see that. Let me do the defense until their website
crafts out Josh Pascal Dion Walker, Corey Peters, but Dupree
(40:50):
on the line.
Speaker 8 (40:52):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
I can't think of somebody that would replace one of
those guys.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
Linebackers Josh Allen, Wesley Woodyard, Andy Trevathan.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
Yeah, guys, dude, you can.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
You could win a Super Bowl with this group that
that we have cornerback Trevard Linley, uh, quarterback Trevard Linley
and then Maxwell Harrison's safety Winston Guy and Mike Edwards.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Edwards is a given that that's a pretty good roster
on defense.
Speaker 4 (41:22):
By the way, that's eleven really good defensive players that
we put out and you could put a second team
out of This is one thing that we will always
have to.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
Give credit for Stoops one way or the other.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
He made at Kentucky have sec defenses for about seven
or eight years.
Speaker 3 (41:40):
Like with star level dudes.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
We probably put more dudes in the NFL on defense
in about seven years than we did the forty years prior.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
Yeah, there's several guys left off that come to mind.
I mean, you've got Zadarius Smith. Lots of guys they
don't Smith, not even on the linebackers, not even mentioned
that you could that is unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
Take a break when we come back. The basketball team
has been working out. We got some news from that
and a lot more. We're here at Mike's landing. The
boat show's coming on Sulfur Creek. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
