to the area thirty eight years later. Call a five
nine two seven to one joke or visit Comedy Off
Broadway dot com off Brobay.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Now here's Matt Joe.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Well, welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Wednesday, June
the twenty fifth. One of my usually favorite shows of
the year. It is Unpopular Opinion Day. We haven't done
this in like two years because we didn't get to
do it last summer because I was gone. So there
should be a lot of unpopular opinions out there. A
five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven on
(00:56):
the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. A Vision Auto Glass
text machine is seven two seven four five two, five
four in the decision sponsored by the TJ. Smith Office.
You call TJ. He'll make them pay. Here is a
reminder of how this works. Two things. Number One, you
pick an opinion. It can be about UK sports or
the state of Kentucky. That's what we would prefer. But
(01:17):
if you have another one, that's okay. But I prefer
UK sports, the university, or the state of Kentucky. It
has to be unpopular. You are in the minority in
this position, okay, and it is no politics. And also,
uh you you can say it and we will give
no judgment. And by the no judgment, I mean like
(01:40):
I'm not gonna tell you I won't disagree with you
or say it's a bad opinion, but like we're not
gonna look down on you as a person for coming
up with that opinion. You get to just say it
and we will we will digest it. So eight five
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Ryan, I
always enjoy this because we get to hear things, and
sometimes I think that people look at things a different
(02:02):
way if people make a good case.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
See, I'm already a little anxious because the couple I've
had in years past have really gotten me in a
lot of troubles.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Well, because you have said you didn't like Keenlin, you
didn't like al eight. Those are two big things for
the state. You have said that over the years.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
And didn't like And I think Taylor Swift's overrated. That's
the one that really I think got me going.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Yeah, but that was that. That was yeah, that was dumb.
But but you you've done.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
All that no judgment, no judgment, Well no, no.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yeah, I mean I know it's not that we can't
say they're wrong. I just can't say you're a bad
person for it. There's there's a difference.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Drew.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Do you enjoy unpopular opinion day?
Speaker 6 (02:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (02:40):
I worked hard on my homework assignment kept me up
pretty late last night. But it's not about my my
own opinions. I like hearing the crazy stuff that the
callers bring in. I feel like I have a pretty
good feel for all you guys, But the callers usually
come in with some outrageous things.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
They do and I'm looking forward to it. And you
can also send them on the text machine. Seven seven
two seven seven four five two five four. So we're
gonna get started. We all were assigned to give one.
But before I do that, Ryan, that was the best
Reds game in two years last night.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
You had to be excited about what you saw last night,
all right.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
So if you didn't watch it, first of all, you
should have. Chase Burns comes out, strikes out the first
five batters. Ryan, first batters or first pitcher since nineteen
sixty to strike out the first five batters of his
major league career. How cool was that?
Speaker 5 (03:25):
I wanted to hear what, you know, like, the crowd's
excited in his debut. He gets the first strikeout, but
then he gets the second one, and then he gets
the third one.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I mean the.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Crowd, and the third one was Aaron Judge. Yeah, right,
the third one was Aaron Judge. I think that's key.
To get Aaron Judge on the third one, it's wild,
and then you have the game. Then the fourth inning,
you know, he gets roughed up a little bit. Uh,
they score three runs. You think, well, this was a
great story, but whatever. Then we come back in the seventh,
(03:53):
Christian and Carci Strand, who's basically been Christian, and Carcion
Strand runners on base. Instead he gets a ripple on
it with the bases loaded. Ties the game, you go
to extra innings, Reds fall behind, then they come back
Ellie that thinks the game's over like a John Wall
Mississippi State, DeMarcus Cousins thing, and then they still end
(04:17):
up winning. And it was on it it was it
was awesome, like it was awesome. That's the best game
two years I think, Shannon, you saw the best game.
What was it last year two years ago when they
got the cycle? Yeah, you were at that.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
One Ellie hit for the cycle.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
That was that two years ago or last year?
Speaker 3 (04:32):
I think that was two years ago.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Two years ago. Probably the best game since that. Probably
two years been the best game since that. And Ryan
it was it was. It was just awesome. Summer of
Ellie now is also the summer of Burns. It's great.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Well, you know the highly touted, you know, their top
draft pick making his debut against the Yankees at home
and to start the way he did. Man, I mean,
the the you can't be help and be excited about
the guy if you're a Reds fan.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
True fine, strikeouts in a row, I mean I thought
he was going to strike I thought he was gonna
get twenty seven. I had it on draftings didn't quite happen.
Speaker 7 (05:07):
I wasn't watching live, but I did pull it up.
I was on the ESPN app and I just pulled
up the box score through two innings and I saw
he had six strikeouts and two innings.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
I didn't realize somebody got a hit on.
Speaker 7 (05:17):
Him, but I just had a visual of him just
striking out everyone on the Yankees for the whole game,
because at that point it seems like he was on
pace to do that.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Well, is a Tennessee volunteer?
Speaker 5 (05:26):
Does that?
Speaker 8 (05:26):
No?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
No, no, no, no transferred? Yeah, they benched him. This
is how stupid the Tennessee Balls are. They benched him
and he transferred to wake Forest. So no, that he
is not a Tennessee ball. He is a wake Forest
Demon Deacon. So I'm excited, you know, probably eighty percent. Yeah,
(05:49):
it was. It was for a Tuesday night. It was
because you know, that place holds forty two thousand people, so, uh,
awesome stuff. I'm in at least until the end of
the weekend and the Reds are back summer, Revelly, and
it was exciting. It was also exciting A lot of
you all are now texting in and like the on
(06:11):
tweeting me like everybody's getting into this, Shannon, are you
feeling the excitement?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
No, not for your Reds at all.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I am feeling excited about the Braves because they keep
beating the Mets five straight over the met.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Nooy cares about the Reds. What are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Oh, the summer Velly Chase burns, summer burns. It's all right.
So now unpopular opinion day for the rest of the day.
I just had to get that out of my system. Drew,
I'll let you go first. What is your unpopular opinion?
Mine or morale? Live things? They're not Kentucky specific.
Speaker 7 (06:38):
I can only tell you all so many times that
I think rupper and ice cream is overrated. You know
the usual hits, So I brought three. I'll just use one.
But it's more of a broad everyday thing.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Okay, go for it.
Speaker 7 (06:51):
I do not think that you should be able to
use ketchup over the age of twelve. If you ask
for ketchup, oh, if you ask for ketchup in a restaurant,
I think they should also bring you a coloring book
and crayons, and you have to sit there like a
child and put ketchup on you.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
Not even on French fries.
Speaker 7 (07:08):
I give a little bit of all right, those two
things are kind of go together. Or if you order,
Like if I go to McDonald's and get a double cheeseburger,
I'm not customizing my order. It's McDonald's. They put ketchup
on it, I'll eat it. But if you're in a
restaurant and you reach for the ketchup bottle, I will
maybe give you french fries, but anything else so you
can't put it on.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
You can't put it on a hamburger if it came
out you're gonna do all this IFFs, then you don't.
Speaker 7 (07:34):
You physically cannot use You cannot actively put the ketchup
on anything if it is served with it on there.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Not a hot dog, Nope, not a burger nope. You
will let them do french fries.
Speaker 7 (07:47):
Potentially I might meet you there, But that's the only exception.
Ketchup is for children.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Catch ketchup.
Speaker 7 (07:53):
Grow up and eat a real condiment with flavor that
is not tomato, processed sugar. Grow up and get an aoli,
get a nice mustard.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Yeah, use us some real condiments. Graduate fourth grade, We're
gonna have to ask the chefs there in Shelbyville adds
Maoli to the to the to the table meeting. So
there you goes, Okay, all right.
Speaker 7 (08:14):
I feel like I was speaking directly to Ryan Lemon
as he looked at me embarrassed.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
I had ketchup on my hash Browns at waffle house
last night.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
What percentage of food, Ryan, do you think you eat
that either has ketchup or ranch.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Or honey mustard or Chick fil a sauce?
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Pretty much? Any any sauce.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
Yeah, any sauce, all right.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
That one hurt me, Drew, that one really hurt me,
all right, all right, So mine is Kentucky related.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
It's Kentucky football.
Speaker 8 (08:44):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
As much as we've talked about how terrible we think
that the season is going to be, I'm gonna go
on a record right now and say that I believe
this team will get to six wins this year.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
I think it will happened.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
I think, you know, if you look at Mark Stoops
and how he's performed when his back is against the wall,
I think he's done as good as any coach that
we've had in a long long time.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
So you are you are six win Shannon?
Speaker 3 (09:08):
I am six win Shannon.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Six Winds. Okay, all right, that's gonna be your name
for the year. What are the six?
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Well, let me pull up the schedule.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
No, well, let me just read through. I'll go through
them in my head. Okay, so you assume we win
the three stinky games. Are you putting to win over Vandy? Yes,
that's four. Okay, Then the road games, do you have
any of these? We go to uh, Georgia, we win
in that one. We go to South Carolina. Yes, gonna
win at South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
That gets me to five.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Okay, are we gonna We're gonna go to Auburn?
Speaker 3 (09:39):
No?
Speaker 4 (09:40):
No, all right? Did we play at home Florida?
Speaker 3 (09:44):
I could be talked into that one.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
It's either that one or a Louisville one of those
two in Florida or louis One of those two, they
will win and they'll get to six that way.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
So South Carolina and Vandy and either Florida or Louisville. Yep,
all right, we got that's unpopular. That's unpopular. No, it's not,
you know, it's it's it is doable. I think the
at South Carolina one is that is the really hard.
What's the other road game? I'm forgetting South Carolina Auburn,
(10:14):
ohkayyy in Georgia. Okay, so you you've got us winning
two road games and then either Florida or Louisville A right,
So now that's yours, Ryan, What is your unpopular opinion?
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Fine? First one I'm gonna go with is that I
think TikTok is trash. I tried to get on it,
and everybody's it's all geared under twenty one twenty five
year old people and other people just giving me their
political opinions.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
It doesn't have to be like that, Like there are
there are old people, there's old people TikTok. You just
have to get the algorithm and like the stuff that's
aimed at your.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Age trash TikTok.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
How long did you spend on it?
Speaker 5 (10:53):
A week?
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Maybe?
Speaker 9 (10:55):
So?
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Is it plausible that the reason you were seeing things
geared at twenty one year olds it's because you were
watching the videos or maybe in other scenarios you're watching
things that normally twenty one year olds watch.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
I don't know how. I didn't even favorite anything. I
just everything hang on there with somebody's opinion about some
political thing, or twenty one years old doing some stupid
dance like, nope, I'm out trash.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
But you've did those stupid dances before though, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
I mean you do those dances with Mark.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
Yeah, but I don't. I don't watch them on TikTok.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Okay. This reminds me of Shannon, of when people used
to write me on the old KSR website and say,
why are the ads on your side all porn?
Speaker 10 (11:39):
And go?
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Those are Google ads that says more about you than
it does.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Did you say to them, why are you watching porn?
Speaker 8 (11:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Because I mean the Google ads, we don't pick what
comes on there. It's just like what they got from
your computer. I wonder if he why he's getting political
opinions and dances because that's what he looks up on
his computer.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Taylor made ads for you?
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Maybe? So? All right, So mine is unpopular, maybe not
to the fan base as a whole, but drew maybe
to my boss's and to people that we you know,
we work with.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Okay, IM sure you want to do this?
Speaker 4 (12:21):
All right? I'm getting under this is this Unpopular Opinion
Day or not? It is, Shannon? The bosses have to
agree with Unpopular Opinion Day too.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Right, I guess so I guess, so.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
This is nobody in particular's fault. I don't blame any
individual in particular, but my popular opinion is very simple.
The pregame and postgame shows for University of Kentucky Athletics
are the worst things on the airwaves and have to
(12:55):
be fixed. They are insanely boring. They do not capture
what it means to get excited for a game and
to come down from a game, and we have to
fix them. I'm not saying we have to change anybody
that's on them, but we have to change how they're programmed.
(13:15):
And I come to this from the Reds and from
the Hurricanes, these two teams that I've gotten big on.
I watched their pregame and postgame and listen to their
pregame and postgame for every big game. Last night I
listened to the Reds radio postgame, I listened to Lance McAllister.
After that, I wanted it to go into the night.
(13:39):
And when it comes to UK games, it's the opposite.
There are too many ads, there are too many plan segments,
and there is too much non interaction with what makes
the BB and great that the shows to me are
not good. The people on them I think they could
(14:00):
be good, but you gotta let him have personalities, and
that's not just buzzing Cameron screaming at each calling and
calling each other butt face. Like, there has to be
a better time spent trying to program the pre and
postgame shows that are non KSR for our fan base.
That is my unpopular opinion, Ryan Drew.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
I'm not going to argue because you know, we do
our pregame show and kind we feel like, I feel
like we build up all this momentum and.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Excitement and then it just goes.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Comes to a screeching halt sometimes so.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
And I'm not blaming the people. I like the people,
but it's gotta be better, Jay am I. You have
to produce shows people want to listen to.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
You're right there that postgame show, you come off a
big win.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
And it's just it's ten minutes of commercials. Yeah, and
then it's like, well Western Kentucky did I beat Well,
he's in attack thirteen a tack. It's like, no, to
give me some excitement, get outside of the stadium. Drew.
I think it's that's gonna be unpopular to the people
in charge, but I think most of the fans would
actually agree with me.
Speaker 7 (15:07):
I think it's pretty popular to the fan base. I've
heard that a lot. I agree with it. You you
have to realize the moment you're in and either ride
that wave into the game or ride that wave out
of the game. I remember specifically the show where Cash
put Ryan through a table and it felt like everyone
around kaoz Bar was ready to run through a wall
to go beat Georgia whoever it was, and then that
(15:27):
energy kind of got sucked out.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Here here's a taped interview with Eli Cappelluno about the
changes on the tennis team.
Speaker 7 (15:35):
Yeah, I think it went straight into a Barnhart taped
to come on the next show.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
Come on eight eighty seven texta sine seven seven seven
four five two five four will take your calls unpopular
opinion day here on Kaazo All right, unpopular opinion So
far seems like mine is the most popular, which means
I've probably succeeded the least in being unpopular. H Drew's
(16:02):
is by far the most unpopular one person rights Drew
has always been my favorite on the show. He's now last.
I used ketchup on Catfish, Hush Puppies, and honestly, most
things in the day. I would fight Drew if I
saw him say that to my face. Well, I don't
fight children, so I couldn't fight that.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
I gotta step in and defend Drew a little bit.
I'm with them on this ketchup thing.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Oh come on, hate it? I love it, So I'm
with you on that.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
I think though there's some things you gotta have it on.
You have to have it on fries. I wouldn't put
it on catfish, but I think on hush puppies. Yes, yeah, yeah,
I don't even put it on fries.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
I don't either.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I'm gonna dip it out.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
I'll do like honey mustard, maybe barbecue sauce, even hot sauce.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
I do like hot sauce. I will say one person
rights My unpopular opinion is horse racing is not a sport.
We treat it like it is and the animals do
all the work. I think it is a hobby, but
it is not a sport.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Well, I think there was a horse that lost its
jockey in a race this year and actually won the race,
So that is that makes it validates the guy's opinion.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Ryan, do you agree with that?
Speaker 5 (17:08):
You know I agree with that. I thought that about
horse racing. Yeah, I think it's we treat it like
it's some kind of grand NFL Super Bowl deal and
it's not. It's just it's horses. They're animals. They poop
in public. It's not as so to you.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
I know, I got no problem with that. I not
like horse race. One person rates Matt. My unpopular opinion
for Reds fans is Barry Larkin is the worst color
analyst in the history of baseball between me and you,
because see I got no loyalty to the Rads pre
twenty twenty twenty nineteen. He is, he's he's so boring.
(17:42):
Jeff Brandley is so much better.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
The count is really good.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Brandley is awesome, and Barry Larkin is a snooze fest.
I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he's a snooze fest.
Like last night, you know, I listened to the highlights
after the game's over. He's just boring. Even on the
most exciting plays. You gotta do like the art play
by play guy good what's his name? Saydak that dude's good.
But Berry Larkin is the snooze fest. I totally agree
(18:06):
with you. That may be unpopular Reds fans, but they're wrong.
He's a snooze fest.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
There's no comparison with him and Branley Brandley, like, get
some personality to it.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Brandley's great, Larkin's a snooze fest. All right, let's get
to the phones. Andy, what's your unpopular opinion? You got
like forty seconds? All right, so Shannon enforced this, I'll
give people a little bit longer go ahead.
Speaker 8 (18:28):
I think they should do away with bowl games all together,
unless you're in the college football playoffs. They've got boring,
they're meaningless. People's entering the portal, people's opting out, and
it's just you don't have the same team playing in
that game as you with the team that's playing throughout
the season.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
All right, appreciate it, Andy, I don't think that's a
crazy point. I actually think a lot of people would
agree with that. I like him because, honestly, Drew, I
want to be able to go to some because I
think we're not going to the playoff. But do you
agree or disagree with it?
Speaker 7 (19:01):
I'm going to disagree, But it's not that crazy to
say that. I enjoy them. It's more things to gamble on.
It makes the Bowl season entertaining, even if some of
the games have a lot of opt outs, So I
will slightly disagree.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
They got to figure out a way to stop the
opt outs, and probably the only way is to require
them to get their final check after the game, right,
that's probably the only way you're gonna be able to
do it, or give like a bonus for playing in
it so that they get money. But in general, if
you can do something about the opt outs, I'm fine
with having the games.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
I'm okay with Andy saying, you know, eliminate some of
the bowl games. You've got way just way too many.
But yet if your school, like you know, Western Kentucky, man,
it's a chance to play in a bowl game to
reward your team after a good season. So I can
see it both ways.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Yeah, Brady, unpopular opinion.
Speaker 11 (19:46):
Hey, so the last twenty five years, Woodson, Lorenzen, and
Levis are not the best qbs.
Speaker 10 (19:52):
It's easily Linn Bowden.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Well, he only was quarterback for a handful of games
and barely through the ball. So I don't think I
think that's going to be not only unpopular, I think
that's kind of wrong. Okay, there you go. I appreciate
the college Shannon.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
His response, Yeah, I think you know you lost the arch.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
I actually like that. It's kind of like the dude
says you could come here or not. Yeah, you know,
somebody says something to you in a debate and you
don't know what to say.
Speaker 8 (20:23):
Just go.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
His argum would be, it sure was exciting every snap
when Lin Bowden was a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
I will say that. On TikTok, which Ryan hates, there's
this guy and he just takes drew football highlights of
people in college and he just watches him. And the
other day it came up he did Lyn Bowden, and
he went nuts. He was like, wait a minute, this
dude played quarterback, wide receiver, running back and ran back kicks.
(20:53):
Who is this dude? And that's true, we got used
to it, but it is kind of amazing what he did.
Speaker 7 (21:00):
And we're probably getting to a point pretty soon where
people didn't watch him live and like the guy on TikTok,
who are reacting to it, they're gonna be like.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
What in the hell was this thing? Yeah, you're not
supposed to be able to do this. He played quarterback,
wide receiver, running back, Like who plays all three nobody, nobody.
Speaker 7 (21:17):
And Kentucky would line up and everyone everyone knew they
were running, Everyone knew they were running, and he would
still still couldn't stop him.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Can we go ahead and tell the Vince Marrow story
now about that? Or is that still against? Is that
still like a no? Well, I think you can tell
it now. Yeah, he left us, he left. Okay, we'll
tell a little bit. I'll do a little bit later.
But it's a great story and it drew about the
Oh yeah, it's one of my favorites. It's maybe my
favorite story about the football related thing.
Speaker 9 (21:51):
Nick, go ahead and Nick, all right, guess I'm going
to strike a nerve specifically with all four of you
all and probably a lot of Kentucky. Let me explain
he got forty seconds, did not perfect. I did not
enjoy the Kentucky's the KSR shows that Jared Lorenzen hosted.
Please let me explain one second. It wasn't anything Jared did.
(22:14):
He was amazing, first, great human beings, great on a
post and pregame shows and everything. When he hosted KSR,
it was great, it was awesome, But then it just
turned into an hour and a half fest of people
just saying, like Chris Farley did on SNL.
Speaker 11 (22:26):
You remember that one time you threw the ball here
and you ran here.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
That was great?
Speaker 11 (22:29):
Man, hey Man, you remember this. I love you man,
and Jared the.
Speaker 9 (22:32):
Whole time was like, yeah, man, thanks appreciate it. Yeah,
all right, next caller.
Speaker 11 (22:35):
Hey Man, I loved you too, me too.
Speaker 9 (22:37):
Meant that. It was just that over overall, he's a
great human Beings loved him, but the shows he hosted,
not to his fault, were not the best.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
Yeah, I did what you're saying. I appreciate the call.
I think he was a great co host, but there
was a little bit of like you were awesome, but
I thought as a game analyst and stuff. I love him,
greatest guy. We'll be right back. Smith, personal injury attorney
called TJ. He'll make them pay no.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Here's Matt Joe.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. Mario just wondered in here
here in Louisville. He's been Today's one Louisville day of
the week where he has to spend time with all
the boring people shann him where he comes up here
like that? Yeah, Vnetti, Terry Miners, he gets all them.
He doesn't get to hang out with us. He always
looks sad, but today he looks a little, uh, a
little more excited. One person rites Matt. Okay, so you
(23:30):
don't like the pre and postgame shows, what would you
do with him? Something different? Uh? You know, I mean
there's a lot of things you could do. Part of
it is you could have different people do it to
bring energy. I'm not volunteering myself because I don't need
more work. But uh, but you like, I thought Ryan
rex Chapman was great at it. I know everybody gets
mad at his political opinions, but I thought he was
(23:51):
really good when he did those You know, do you
remember those few years of doing it, Like just tell him, look,
rex Man, you can't talk about politics. When I did
those games, I didn't, so like, just do that. I
think Time's great. I think Jack's great. You know, I
think Dave is great. Uh but but like he and
Cameron need to just bring it down a notch. Stop
(24:12):
screaming at each other. They're both smart. Just talk football pregame.
You gotta get the atmosphere of the tailgate, Like there's
no atmosphere of the tailgate, like I don't I barely
know you're at the game. You know at ks bar,
we have the atmosphere a ksbar. You guys are at
the actual games. You gotta like get that in there.
And then the postgame the postgame show is a disaster
(24:33):
because they don't do anything postgame except just like kill
time until the coach talks, and a postgame show should
not be killed time. Drew gets the atmosphere great. Right
after games, he's outside with the fans talking to him
like his his postgame thing. What do you call it again,
Drew the awesome subscribe. In a perfect world, what y'all
(24:55):
to do is just combine it with KSRS and have
us take calls until the coach players are ready. But
if you don't want to do that because you don't
want to have criticisms, then you got to find a
way to get people's reaction. You got to make people
feel like they're at the game. The Reds last night.
Those dudes are sitting out in the thing, and so
people are like, you got to get that excitement, and
(25:16):
we just don't do that Ryan at all. So it
just feels sterile as it can be.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
Yeah, I'm with you. My biggest complaint has been with
the postgame show because after a big win, people are excited. Man,
they want to talk about they want to get on board.
They don't want to hear scores from across conference USA all.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
It's like, just immediately, if it were me, if I'm Jami,
I would just say, look this calling thing. I mean,
we got people staying up two thirty in the morning
to call, and then you give an hour of Well,
Eastern was playing Morehead today in baseball and it was
It's like nobody wants to hear that. So that's my
people are still mad about the catch up. I mean,
(25:51):
I oh yeah, they're worked up. It's just the most
unpopular opinion you've ever had. Ryancumey Drew, There's no doubt
you didn't that song, did you.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Shan because I thought you wanted to set it up.
Speaker 8 (26:03):
No.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
No, We'll play it leading into the next break and
then I'll say what it is after all, let's go, Jimmy,
Jimmy unpopular opinion.
Speaker 6 (26:10):
Hey, so I wanted to preface my remarks by saying
that I love Mark Pope, and I think from the
moment Pope was announced I was fully foreign and I
realized that Cal had his problems. I mean, the win
lost record wasn't good, the tournament wasn't good, and his
press conferences weren't good. But I think Cal was mistreated
(26:32):
and I think all through the fan base, but including
the KSR, I just felt like he was a sitting duck.
I don't think it would have mattered if he won
the national championship. I think it was kind of unfair
the way we treated Cay.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Do you think, and now that is a part, that's
that's a fair opinion for today. Do you think losing
to Oakland and Saint Peter's two of three years was acceptable?
Speaker 6 (26:56):
Absolutely?
Speaker 4 (26:57):
Not so then what how did how did we? But
then how did we?
Speaker 8 (27:01):
Then?
Speaker 4 (27:01):
How did people treat him wrong?
Speaker 6 (27:04):
Well? I just think it was a sitting He is
a sitting dug. I mean, he's kind of caught with
his pants down. And I don't think it would have
mattered what he did. I think if he won the
national championship, these people were just so rabid antack Cow Yeah,
I can't speak for his own.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Faud Yeah, all right, fair enough, I appreciate the call.
I can always speak for me Ryan if he had
won the national championship, I'd have been good with him.
I would go so far as to say if he
won a couple of games in the tournament, I'd have
been good with him. So, uh, you know, hey, unpopular opinion, Adam,
go ahead at him.
Speaker 12 (27:39):
Drew one hundred percent with you, buddy, only belongs on
the children's menium.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Nice to meet a fellow adult here on the radio.
Speaker 12 (27:48):
Hey, So, I'm about to take a lot of people off,
but I think Kentucky Derby is the most overrated sporting
event that that there is. Why it's just a it
has become just a five hour, you know, TV event
where people that are not even from Kentucky come and say,
look at me. Then there's a two minute race, and
it's back to look at me. It's just a narcissistic
(28:10):
celebrity event.
Speaker 8 (28:11):
That you know.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Okay, I appreciate the call. Ryan, I kind of feel
like you might agree with that.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
I one hundred percent agree with that, and I think
that goes the fact I had to be there at
six o'clock in the morning for twelve years to cover
that dang thing. The race last two minutes. I think
it's way over hype. Way overblown and win in Kentucky
don't care about it until Derby Day. That's the only
It's not a big deal to us for the other
three hundred and sixty four days of the year, but
the Derby Day the only day we care about it.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Do you think it's a narcissistic event? Look at me?
Speaker 5 (28:42):
Oh yeah, kidding.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
Look at how well I can dress.
Speaker 5 (28:45):
Look at my suit, Look at my new hat, look
at my purple suit.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
All right, okay, hang on that personal shot directly at me?
What was that? I disagree, Drew. I'll I think you
and I'll take up for the Derby. It's good for
the state. I think it's exciting to have the biggest
event in America be taking place in our state. The
(29:10):
whole nation turns its attention to hear. I wish it
wasn't quite as aristocratic. I wish there was more kind
of for the common person that was part of it.
I think that's gone away in recent years. But overall,
I still think it's good.
Speaker 7 (29:24):
I agree, but I will say there are people. It's
not the entire percentage of people at Churchill Downs, but
a lot of people make it.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
Just look at what I'm wearing. Yeah, but some of
them are good looking, like I understand why they would
do it like they they're like they're showing off. Is
that bad? No? No, shd Mario looked at the thing.
Is he not supposed to look sharp? I'm guilty too.
Speaker 7 (29:46):
I start thinking about my Derby outfit a month in advance,
but I mean the overall event.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
I wouldn't label the whole event. That weighs my point.
Speaker 8 (29:53):
There a lot of.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
People, Shannon, I put on clean socks. I put on
like my best boxer briefs than hate like you put
on you do a shower. That's exactly right, Brett. What's
your unpopular opinion?
Speaker 10 (30:09):
Well, I don't like Skyland chili.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
I appreciate the call.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
I appreciate the call. That's not even that that's not
even that unpopular.
Speaker 10 (30:21):
No, I mean, I feel like you have a great taste.
But I tried it and I just couldn't. I couldn't
get into it. I don't know if it's just the
noodles and the chili or something. It's definitely a.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Yes or no thing for people. I appreciate the call,
I love it, but I can see why people wouldn't
like it.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Had two nights ago.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
But it's a yes or no thing, right, Like you
either immediately in one day, in one bite like it
or you hate it. There's no in between.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Yeah, so you know now you can even get it
in the grocery store. I don't have a skyline close
to me like you do. So I got some at
the grocery store and it's still good. Even really eat
it up in a microwave.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
It's good.
Speaker 8 (30:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
I don't think I would want to artore it's pretty well.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Look again, if you don't live close to a skyline
and you want skyline, yes you can get.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
I guess that's true. Jerry. Unpopular opinion, Hey man, my
unpopular opinion is I think we should get rid of
myth Kentucky Home.
Speaker 13 (31:15):
It's a minstrel song.
Speaker 12 (31:17):
If people knew the context of that song, excuse me
that song, I don't think people would supported.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
Okay, well, this is usually said, yeah, this is probably said,
appreciate the call Ryan once every couple of years on this.
So it goes to kind of what you what you
want your state song to be? Right, because he's what
he just said is not controversial. If you go to
the history of the song, it's not a good history.
(31:47):
It's just not if you go read what it is,
it's not a good song. But it's also very beautiful.
It's also a song that I think brings about an
emotion in people, and the vast majority of people don't
think about the lyrics the way it was intended, and
they think about it a different way, a way that
(32:08):
is sort of like Shannon Born in the USA has
become a song that wasn't what it was when it
was written, right Like, it means something different now than
it did when it was written.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
And I think people probably don't even know.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
That if most people don't even know why Bruce Springsteen
wrote that song. So like, I've had people over the
years challenge me on that. I generally say keep it
because of the history. But I do understand Ryan the
other Repedie.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
I do too, because the original lyrics were very racially insensitive.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
And they've changed some of them.
Speaker 5 (32:40):
They've changed some of the lyrics, but still I think
a lot of the older black people in Kentucky still
remember how what that song really stands for and do
not like it at all as our state song.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Yeah, so I get it, but there is something about
when they when you get to that chorus again at
the Derby and it says we no more, my lady,
that I actually I find really powerful. I do not
think those were drew. We should sing it at UK
games because I think it slows everything down, maybe at
the end, but sometimes when you know, there were times
(33:10):
I used to play it before I was against that
that was not That's not the excitement level you need.
Speaker 10 (33:15):
For a game.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
What are your thoughts on how we played doomas Walker?
After every game should be gone?
Speaker 2 (33:22):
This is more upbeat though, Yeah, but it should be
this big win, this big exciting win, and then.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
It's weep no more, lady?
Speaker 4 (33:29):
Agreed? How do we do it? I agree with you.
I agree like we need more upbeat things. It's getting better.
The music and everything with UK sports is better than
it was. Yea.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
I love it at the Derby, but not after it.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
The Derby's good because it's sort of the ceremonial walkout right,
you're not trying to pump the horses up. They'll go
crazy if you do that.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
All right, we're not playing Thunderstruck cause he's sticking to
the gate.
Speaker 4 (33:54):

this show. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's cancel,
all right. So Shannon, this is Bill Taylor and the
(34:39):
Appalachian Heathens.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Yeah, what a great name, what a great voice, Bill.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
Taylor, the Appalachian Heathens on America's Got Talent last night?
And where are they from? Middlesborough, Kentucky? No way, Middlesborough,
Kentucky gets on America's Got Talent last night. I didn't
find out until my mom texted me right as it
was on, and then they got that made the cut
(35:06):
four yess if you were to listen to the end,
they all talk about, including Simon Caw, how good they are.
And they now move on to the next round. And
of course we will be following my Middlesborough brethren, the
Appalachian Heathens just played the Laurel Cove Festival two weeks
ago then on America's Got Talent, Ryan, congrats to Middlesborough
(35:26):
showing up and what a voice.
Speaker 5 (35:28):
That is so cool man, just you know, the little
little guy on the big stage and killing it like that,
Absolutely fantastic.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
You were aware of them before us.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
I know, I just knew that they existed, but had
never heard him play, never heard him see wow. It's great.
Shout out to Laurel Cove Festival in Pineville. They had
it a couple of weeks ago. It rained a lot,
but people started a great It's become like this cool
little niche festival that has really taken over and it
is launching acts left and right. John Grace runs it
(35:58):
down there. Big shout out of them. But we will
be following Bill Taylor and the Appalachian Heathens. I'm gonna
make shan and play more of that song. When we
have more time to talk about it. Uh eight five
nine two twenty two eighty seven. Text me sheet seven
seven two seven seven four five two five four Drew's
catching strays on here all that I mean like this
says this is the meanest people have ever been to
drug Go get your happy meal, kids, uch popular opinion
(36:19):
what person writes. Drew became the worst on the show
after he wrote the article about why fans shouldn't be
upset about losing guys in the portal. Yeah, he ended
up being right, but it was like Drew the journalist,
not Drew the fan. Yeah, and I was right, and
I'm right again. Stop eating ketchup. I don't understand why'd
be upset at you if you were right.
Speaker 7 (36:38):
Yeah, I was very right, and then I ran it
back again this year and was right again. I'm gonna
do it again next year. That same post, why you
gotta talk about about Ketchup? Though everybody loves Ketchup.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
No, everyone doesn't love kid One person grows up My
unpopular opinion. Nobody over twelve should wear their hat backwards.
Adult men look ridiculous with their hat backwards. Generally speaking,
I agree with you. I've had that opinion ever since
I saw this man from Bell County. I'm not going
to say his name. His name is Bill Hayes one
time walking uh through a football stadium and he was
(37:10):
like in his forties and he's had his hat on backwards.
I was in high school and I was like, Okay,
that looks ridiculous. So I agree with you, But Shannon,
women do like when you wear your hat.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Back Well, I saw a guy from Bell County with
his hat on backwards in Milwaukee.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Yeah, and it's because women do like him and I
and I agree with you. I think it looks ridiculous.
But I've had women say like, you should wear your
hat backwards, so I can't do it in public. I
did it that day in Milwaukee, Shannon. But but in general,
I agree with that principle.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Look, why don't you just do what you want to
do what you want to, not worry about what other
people think.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
It's exactly right. Mario walked in here, what's your unpopular opinion?
And talking to the microphone.
Speaker 14 (37:48):
You know how they say like breakfast is the most
important meal of today.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Yes, I don't believe in it. I don't. I don't
even I don't.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Believe it, don't believe it.
Speaker 14 (37:55):
You don't need any breakfast. Unpopular opinion. Breakfast is overrated.
No breakfast, ave it at that. You don't eat sausage,
no ham, no, no break my eggs.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
My first meal is like at twelve and it's lunch. No,
you don't even need to eat a donut.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
You don't want to go to the show.
Speaker 7 (38:12):
I've tried to buy Mario breakfast several times on our
road trips.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
He wants nothing to do with the milk. You just
don't like to do what you eat breakfast later in
the day, Like do you like omelets?
Speaker 14 (38:21):
Yeah, I'd eat like breakfast for dinner. I'd eat breakfast
for dinner.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
But you're not eating breakfast.
Speaker 14 (38:27):
I'm not hungry at that time at nine ten am.
I'll just wait till like one or two.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
So it's not the type of food, it's the time
of day.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
You just don't like eating in the morning. Yeah, yeah,
all right, there you go. Unpopular opinion. There is Mario,
go back to the boring people. I'm not eighty seven, Andrew.
What's your popular opinion?
Speaker 13 (38:47):
Bigly minus is incredibly stale. I feel like our social
media department has gotten tons better, and Matt, you've being
wrestling Sam and shann and you understand that we could
go back to having themes Tubby did it. It was
it was things they could put out, corny trailers. They've
got Mark Pope, he's the king of cheese. Let him
be cheesy, lean into it, let it be exciting.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
I don't even think that's unpopular. I totally agree with you.
I appreciate the call. Not unpopular to me at all. Ryan,
Big Blue Man is boring. They need to fix it
or do something else, like it's just not that like
we we now we went from having the best one too,
if you watch some of the other ones, one of
the worst ones got gotta get it better.
Speaker 5 (39:27):
And I think that's what people were hoping with Pope,
is that breath of fresh air. He was here when
Patina was doing the crazy thing, riding out liking Batman
and Robin are on a Harley or something. So I
think maybe maybe it might get back to a little bit.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
Of that we were beholding drew to the kind of
cow I got to give my State of the Union
speech and all that. Okay, well so we're not anymore.
So now it's a good time to change it.
Speaker 7 (39:48):
Yeah, and I think Pope's a good gotta do it. It
might even be corny at times, but he's not afraid
to try something new and let anyone down.
Speaker 10 (39:54):
Cow.
Speaker 7 (39:54):
There's this I gotta be cool at all times. I
gotta be this big a list celebrity figure. Pope will
throw on a Batman costume and swing down from the
rafters if he needs to. Might not always work, but
he'll be willing to try new things.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
Mario just texting me, but Net he's got his hat
on backwards right now.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
That doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Jason in Greensburg.
Speaker 11 (40:13):
Go ahead, Hey, good morning. I want to previace this
by saying that this is an unpopular opinion I've had
for almost twenty three years. To go back to my uncle,
who is now deceased, was a decades long booster and
season ticket holder. Occasionally I would get some free tickets
(40:35):
given to me. I don't he was one of the
ones in.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
The in the what's your what's the opinion? Go ahead?
Speaker 11 (40:43):
My opinion is that I don't think the eruption Jones
should have been moved into that section where they're at Reparena.
Speaker 4 (40:50):
Where should they be?
Speaker 11 (40:53):
I don't know, I don't know. I mean I guess, oh,
you think they should have worse seats? No, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
No no, just yes or no you think they should
have worse seats? Ah, yes, okay, okay. I like that.
That is an unpopular opinion, Drew, not that we should
move the students on. You're gonna have to do it
quick because these are taken too long.
Speaker 11 (41:16):
Go okay, so okay, No. So he was a decade
long donor and when they got moved and they raised
the price that had to be donated to the kapun
and then got pushed back to worst seat.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
Okay, all right, I appreciate the cost. So he's taking
up for the donors and saying, Drew, they should have
we should have less seats for the students. I like
that opinion because it is very unpopular. I like this.
Speaker 7 (41:39):
He's one to steal from the poor and give to
the rich. A little different, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
Put the students up in there, basically a house Republican.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
Now he's like, there, these poor people have too much.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
That's the exact opposite.
Speaker 8 (41:51):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
But you know what we say, we want unpopular opinion,
popular opinion, move the students close to the floor, unpopular opinion.
Make them sit outside. That's that's that's an unpopular opinion.
We'll take a break, come back. Our number two sks
are
