Welcome to Hour two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones walking back.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
I have number two Kentucky Sports Radio AF.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
I'm nine two twenty two eighty seven the text machine
that we are blowing up with unpopular opinions. These these
have all been really good, so I'm gonna go through
a few of them. Seven seven two seven seven four
five two five four One person rights. Let's see you
all quickly. You decide whether you agree or disagree with
these all right, unpopular opinion when you call in. There's
no need to share your UK fan resume when making
(01:29):
a point. Agree, agreed, agree, yeah, right, my whole life, Yeah,
we all have, you know, and I mean if you
haven't been a fan in your whole life, Drew, I'm
interested in that. Like if you just became a fan,
we can just assume we've all been a fan of
our whole lives.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
One person rights.
Speaker 5 (01:46):
Kentucky High School basketball and football should have a private
school champ and a public school champ.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
I'm I'm gonna disagree with that because I love the
fact that Kentucky's one of the only school left that
kind of makes it open to everybody.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
Day school, probably.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
School, big school.
Speaker 7 (02:02):
Yeah, uh, Drew, I understand that argument, but I like
the way it's set up now, it's probably not the
best for some schools, but I still enjoy the chaos.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Shannon, Yeah, disagree with the person. I think we keep
it the way it is.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
I'm fine with it. You know, it's not fair, but
you know what else isn't fair? Life, unfortunately, and so
it's a good way to teach people early on that
there will be people that have more than you and
you can still beat them. And then when you beat them,
it's even more special when that happens, because you you
know you you've overcome it. Another person writes Matt, I
think BUCkies is overrated. People act like they're going to
(02:40):
God's favorite planet and it is just a grocery store
with beef jerky.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Pumping shop guy anyway, right, yes, pup shop.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
I would open one right across the street from BUCkies,
because everybody goes to BUCkies, but it's always the line
is so big. I think I would make a fortune
just going across the street.
Speaker 7 (02:58):
Drew, I'm team Clark's pumping Shop, but if I may
compliment Bucky's bathrooms, I think that's where they do their
best work.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
So I think Bucki's is a very nice place. I
think people who act like it's a mecca to go to.
It makes no sense to me. It is very clean.
That's probably the thing they do the best. They pay
their employees. Well, ye, I'm very I'm very That makes
me very happy as well.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Great at marketing today, have great at.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
Marketing and some of their food, like the food is
really good, but people treat it like it's mecca and
they're going for a pilgrimage. And I don't really understand that.
It's like it's Walmart, but with cleaner, with a nice barbecue.
Speaker 6 (03:39):
And a lot of gas stations, a lot of gas.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Yeah, but there are.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Gas pumps everywhere, so I don't understand that one person
rights Matt. My unpopular opinion is KSR peaked in twenty seventeen.
You don't care as much and it can and it
shows well, that's rude. I disagree with that completely. I
think the show is better now in the last year
than it's been ever. Part of that was adding why
(04:05):
do I hear the music still playing? Shannon, I still
hear wear Wolves of London?
Speaker 3 (04:10):
You still hear it?
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Okay? Now it's I don't hear it all right.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
Part of that was adding Mario we've got more of
a social media element. But the other part is like
sometimes people look nostalgically at things, go back and listen
to some of those shows in twenty sixteen seventeen. We
weren't as good. There's a lot of dead time. There's
a lot of time where it's just we're sitting there
talking about like you know, players in detail, that it's
(04:37):
just not as interesting. I think there was a little
dip for this show in Col's last year because I
found it harder to do, and that probably came through
over the air. But since pope'sman here, I'm our harshest critic.
But I think it's been it's been really good.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
I think that person's opinion peaked in twenty seventeen.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
Yeah, that may be true as well.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
I think most shows, if they stay on this long,
they do hit a part where they start to really
go downhill. But I will quit before that happens because
I can feel when a segment stinks. He if I'm
nine two eight, twenty two eighty seven, let's go to
major what's your unpopular opinion?
Speaker 8 (05:16):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (05:16):
Boys, Uh so, it's my favorite show of the year,
for sure, But I did just eat this is not
even a lot. I ate of bacon, egg and cheese
with ketchup from BUCkies for practices.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
No, you did a backward Wow. That's a backward Okay,
so you just this is all you.
Speaker 8 (05:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (05:30):
So if if someone calls out socks and sandals, I'm
really cooked.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
I would talk all that out.
Speaker 10 (05:36):
So I'm not.
Speaker 9 (05:36):
It's not a Kentucky or sports related question or controversy,
but it is for a niche population for sure. I'm
a huge trivia and Jeopardy fan, and Ken Jennings is
better than Alix Quebec. I think Tebec was an icon.
I think Tebec was an icon. He was an icon,
but Jennings a smarter, funnier, interesting, and he was born
(05:59):
to be the host.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
All right, I appreciate the calling. I don't watch Jeopardy
every night, but any Jeopardy fans have an opinion.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
I don't watch it, but I know Alex Trebek was like,
really did he talk down to you? Like I'm a
smart ass, and I don't think Ken Jennings does that.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
And I just feel like Ken Jim, but I like
I think Ken Jennings knew the answer without it being
on the on the screen. There I've always thought Trebek
was a little hoity toity when he was reading the answers.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
As long as nobody calls in and tries to make
the case for Drew Carey being better than Bob Barker,
nobody believes. No, No, not even close.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
I kind of wonder if Ken Jennings, though, is like
a John Stewart on The Daily Show thing, which is
the show was good before Craig Kilbourne, when Craig Kilbourne
was thost, but then it really got good with John Stewart.
Could that be the case Drew?
Speaker 7 (06:46):
Uh No, there's something about just all the classics. I
haven't seen Ken Jennings on the Jeopardy One, but in
almost every example anybody that's been doing a long time,
they're hard to talk.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
It is hard, but he would Can we agree he'd
be better than Aaron Rodgers would have been.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
Yes, didn't Blossom do it?
Speaker 4 (07:02):
For a while?
Speaker 6 (07:03):
I thought Blossome?
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Yeah, I mean Blossom.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
The actress that played Blossom.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
You do it, Mim b Aleck, Yes, that's what it is.
Speaker 6 (07:11):
She did it for a little, did she did?
Speaker 3 (07:15):
She did? Like the night version?
Speaker 4 (07:16):
It was like or it waitn't it all at night?
Speaker 3 (07:18):
I mean maybe, yeah, you're right, it was. It was
like an afternoon version of it. I think, like something. Yeah,
who knew, Blossom Jackson. What's your unpopular opinion?
Speaker 11 (07:29):
I guys, my unpopular opinion. I love what Pope has
done for the program of bringing in kind of an
older taste of Kentucky for the older fans and incorporating
the new fans.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Yes, but whenever.
Speaker 11 (07:41):
We talk about the jersey situation, I don't think we
need to bring back the denim or I believe it's
eye spikes or whatever, the icicle jerseys. They both are horrible.
They don't need to touch the court. I think they
will look horrible nowadays. They looked then. We don't never
ever need to bring them back. And honestly, if you
(08:03):
need to bring a jersey back, bring back two thousand
eighteen when we had the checkerboard.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
Okay, all right, So that's the worst opinion we've heard yet.
I appreciate the call. First of all, eye sickles are awesome.
Denim is controversial, but I'd like to see it for
a game. But the checkerboards, I don't know if I
can let you know, I said no judgment, Shannon.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
I know if I can do.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
No, I don't think the caller really believes that. I
think he's just stirring the pot.
Speaker 7 (08:28):
Do you believe that I'm just shanning right there that
until they said the checkerboard part, all right, have your
bad opinion. But when they threw in checkerboard, I think
they're seeking out violence on the radio show.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Yeah, you guys know anybody that one time have ever said, Man,
I really like those.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Checkerboard you know that guy right there?
Speaker 5 (08:44):
No, No, they're terrible, you know they they There are
many reasons they're terrible, one of which is that they
look bad, but two of which is we stole them
from Tennessee. Now people will go, well, Tennessee stole them
from us, but it doesn't matter. They stolen from us
in like the forties. Everyone associates that with Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Yes, so like we can't.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
It was a terrible idea, And Mitch Barnart came from Tennessee,
so it even looks worse.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I've never even if.
Speaker 7 (09:13):
You liked him, we had him way too long. We
just kept that jersey longer than we've kept any jersey.
You just needed to change, regardless of whatever you thought
of them, Scott unpopular opinion.
Speaker 12 (09:24):
Yeah, Andrew Harrison was the best point guard in the
Calibary era based off what he did at Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
Well, I mean, I appreciate the call. I know you're
never gonna find a bigger Andrew Harrison fan than me.
I don't think he was the best as a talent,
but I will say this, there's gonna be nobody in
the cal era ryan who had more tournament success than
Andrew Harrison.
Speaker 6 (09:52):
Absolutely, yep, absolutely.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
I mean if I told you that a point guard
at Kentucky had gone to a chachampionship game, in a
final four in his two years.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
There, it was undefeated, was undefeated.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
Most people would say, well, that's pretty good. I think
he's one of the more disrespected players of all time
compared to how much crap he got versus how good
he was.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
I agreed.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Do you agree with that?
Speaker 6 (10:17):
Yeah? I mean, you know, John Wall, Brandon Knight, d
Aaron Fox all had great.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
NBA careers, but everybody thought they were great. But Andrew
Harrison and then Tyler Eulis his accolades, Tyler.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
Ewlis everybody thought was great.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
I'm not sure how many players Drew were more successful
and took more crap during the time than Andrew. There
were players who took more crap, like saw Smith, but
they also had huge screw. Andrew Harrison took a ton
of junk and was good.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Do you agree? I mean, can you think of anyone
else like that?
Speaker 10 (10:49):
No?
Speaker 7 (10:49):
I agree, And yeah, I don't have all the numbers
in front of me, but I can't think of a
point guard that had been a more winning point guard.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
He had to have won almost.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
His first year though. I mean they they they were
an eight seed that year.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
But I mean they went all the way to the
championship game.
Speaker 7 (11:04):
So tack on those five words on whatever they won
in the regular season, thirty eight and one in the
second year, we remember, He's close to seventy wins in
two seasons.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
That's gonna be hard to top.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Would we remember him more over Aaron? If Aaron hadn't
hit those three shots, I think.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
He was a better player than Aaron. Huh, But Aaron
has those moments.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Yeah, I think Andrew was disrespected a lot when he
was here. Now, was he the best cow point guard?
Probably not, but I think he was disrespected a lot.
Greg unpopular opinion.
Speaker 10 (11:35):
Yes, I'm both a UK and UL sports fan.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
Wow, it's a rare breed.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
So the guy that I got into it Shannon at.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
At Roosters about politics. You remember that.
Speaker 13 (11:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
The other thing the guy said to me was he
rooted for UK and U of L. And I was
like communist, communist? No, Greg, Yeah, I'm mean, how what?
Speaker 4 (12:01):
What is? What is the argument for rooting for both?
Speaker 10 (12:06):
There are times when I may like one team better
than the other.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (12:13):
Colleges in Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
You don't have one you favorite regularly, more like you
flip back and forth.
Speaker 10 (12:19):
Yes, you can enjoy a sporting event without being quote
for either team.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
So how do you decide which one you support more?
Speaker 10 (12:28):
Well, it just depends on the situation.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Who's good.
Speaker 10 (12:33):
If if Denny Crumb were playing coach cal, I would
be for Denny Crumb because he's ten times a better coach,
uh to get the best out of the material he has.
Speaker 5 (12:45):
So do you tend to cheer for the one that's
do you think? Do you tend to cheer for the
team that's better that year?
Speaker 10 (12:52):
Uh? I just I thought I thought Denny Crumb ran
a classy program.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Okay, all right, Well, I appreciate call that isn't unpopular.
Speaker 10 (13:02):
Example, all right, quickly, okay, twenty twenty three, I was
ready pulling for Kentucky and I was one of their
biggest fans. I was for them to beat Loisville, which
they did in the last of the season.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
I appreciate, we don't have to appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
I don't think you can switch back and forth through
I don't even think you can root for both of them.
But you certainly can't flip back and forth based on
the team.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
No.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
There.
Speaker 7 (13:29):
I've met some people that like both, and it's weird
to me. It's like seeing a unicorn out in the wild.
You just kind of take a picture of it and
let it go on its way. But to just pick
aside each season or each time they meet that that's way.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Too far from me. You at least got to lean
the direction a little bit.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Can I tell you that I have a neighbor and
his name is Greg, and he's also the same way
as that Greg. I see him wearing a UFO jersey
in a Kentucky hat. Stop it, No, I'm serious.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Yeah, that should be deported. I know I'm not supposed
to judge.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
You're trying to send them out of the country. Yeah,
he's a good neighbor.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
That's nice. State Farm can be there for him. But
I'm still anti doing both those. Pat, what's your five
ular opinion?
Speaker 8 (14:10):
Hey, Fellas, this wasn't what I was calling in for,
but I do agree. I kind of liked the checker boards.
I just thought they lasted too long, but I kind
of liked them when we had them. But the actual
reason I was calling in, I think we are going
to be better as a basketball team next year when
Otega Oway is off the court. I think Otega Away
is a great player for a not so good team
(14:32):
as we were an okay team like we were last year.
I think Oway can't shoot and is not a super
good playmaker, and sometimes he kind of suffocates the ball
and takes the air of the ball. I think we'll
be at our best next year when the ball's moving.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
Wow, appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
I actually I don't think you can win a national
championship with Oway being your best player. But I think
he can be a great second best player, and I
think last year he had to be our best player
too often. But I don't agree with the opinion they'll
be better Drew with Howding, I'm going to disagree too.
I can get a little bit of mighty.
Speaker 7 (15:09):
He might have had some Archie goodwin last season where
at some point you just got to lower your head
and attack because the offense doesn't have any flow. But
I can't meet him with they'll be better with him
on the bench.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
I'm not there.
Speaker 7 (15:20):
I think always still gonna have another big year. Maybe
not double digits every single game, but one again, but
it'll be another good season.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
Next to the catch up, the least popular thing said
was the Ken Jennings comment. Just judging by the text.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Machine, people don't like it.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
People love some Alextra back. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Stockton Mortgage, they're located all across the state. We've got
offices almost from Pikeville, Paduca and outside of Kentucky as well.
So if you're looking to buy a house, refinance, do
a cash out refinance.
Speaker 6 (15:46):
Uh more lockwork, you can help you. You don't have
to live in Kentucky to do it.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
So give him a call Doctor Mortgage to get Their
website is Stockton dot com. Then you'll play you up
with a loan officer and they'll hold your hand throughout
the entire process. Make it as easy as possible to
get you to the closing table. And that's what's all about.
So give him a try. Doctor Mortgage mls A two
five nine Equal Healthing Lender.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Well, we will take a break and be right back.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Unpopular Opinion Day KSR good stuff on Unpopular Opinion Day,
taking a lot of calls, but we've gotten some good stuff.
Text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two
five four here's some more. One person right, it's unpopular opinion.
I think Shannon is the best person on the show.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
Agreed.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Oh, I thought that was popular. You telling me that's unpopular.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
I think that's particularly unpopular. I think there.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
I think everybody plays to an audience. That's why I
think the chemistry is good with this group, is that
everybody has the people. So yeah, there are definitely Shannon,
they are definitely shit. There are Shannon people, There are
Mario people, there are Drew people, there are Ryan people.
And then if we did a popularity contest, I think
I would not come in first. But then I think
you gotta have somebody to hold it all together. So
(16:45):
that's the whole, the whole thing. When I listened to
Howard Stern. I never would have said Shannon Howard Stern
was my favorite person on the show. But if without him,
there's no show. Yeah, and so all the various people
have have roles, so yes, there would be there are
people who would pick everyone, ex that Billy. I don't
know that anyone would pick Bill Billy. I'm just kidding.
I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding, Billy. But you know
(17:07):
what I mean.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
I listen to how It's darning. He's not really my
favorite on there. I like the guys that do like
the prank calls. They're my favorites on the end.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
But if you didn't have Howard, the show wouldn't work.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Exactly. You got to have him. He's your face.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Yeah, one person rights Matt unpopular opinion. My favorite segment
you ever used to do was when you would read
the birthdays from your Facebook page. I actually thought those
were pretty good segments because I usually didn't know the
people on him, and we would go.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
We got thirty friends with a birthday, picking number one
through thirty.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
And then I would just tell you about the person,
and that was killing we were killing time. I couldn't
do it now because I think it would lead to
too much on the person. But back then, Chan, when
we were only on in Louisville, I'd be talking about
some random person from around the state and we'd learn
about him.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
No, we should bring that back maybe.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
For that I did enjoy that segment back in the day. Yeah,
but we didn't.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
I'm thinking about some of the ones we unpopular opinion,
what person rites? I think Mark Stoops is actually great
for the program, and even if he doesn't win six,
I would keep it.
Speaker 7 (18:14):
Drew great for the program. He's been great for the program.
It's uh, I can't join you in that. I think
he will continue to be great for the program, so
I will. It's another unpopular one, I believe. Yeah, I
think that one would be unpopular. But you know that's okay.
Let's go to Kyle. What's up Kyle?
Speaker 8 (18:35):
Hey, good morning, Ryan, play along with me? Okay, got
you all right?
Speaker 12 (18:40):
What's your favorite color?
Speaker 10 (18:41):
Baby?
Speaker 6 (18:42):
Blue and white?
Speaker 8 (18:45):
All right?
Speaker 12 (18:46):
See, that's why I hate that, because the question is
posed asking for a singular answer.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
That's a great point.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
You know what, I've never really thought of that. You're
exactly right.
Speaker 9 (18:59):
The.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Blue and white, can't you know?
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Sometimes you just need somebody to explain something obvious, So
we need to stop. What's your favorite colors would be
much better? Good point, Mike, unpopular opinion.
Speaker 14 (19:14):
Yeah, I can't believe you call that guy rude while
to goo, but want to call about why?
Speaker 4 (19:20):
Why? I can't you believe I called him rude?
Speaker 14 (19:24):
Don't you rude yourself?
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Stop it?
Speaker 5 (19:28):
That is an that's an unpopular opinion, isn't it Shannon
to say that I'm rude?
Speaker 14 (19:33):
Now go ahead, Mike, You'll get You'll get people on
the Tech three with me. This show.
Speaker 15 (19:44):
If you listen to this show, A female listens to this.
Speaker 14 (19:48):
Show, and I've been wanting to say this for a
long time. I just never did well two years, three
or four years, or if there's females that listen to show,
there's no way would go out with you.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
You know there's any woman that would go out with me?
Speaker 14 (20:10):
Well, you say any that you know, any woman of quality?
Speaker 4 (20:14):
You're saying that would go out with me?
Speaker 14 (20:18):
Well, your boys know how you are. Would you talk
about hating kids, eating in the corner, kiss, kicking dogs?
Speaker 4 (20:26):
I never say they about kicking a dog. I never
said I kicked a dog.
Speaker 14 (20:31):
Okay, Okay, you know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Well, I appreciate the call, no I I yeah, I
mean if you don't. I don't dislike kids. I don't
want them in public screaming and then dogs have been
very clear on my opinion. So maybe maybe he's right, Drew.
Maybe that's not unpopular. Maybe there isn't a woman that
would go out with me.
Speaker 7 (20:51):
We gotta let the callers have their moment without judgment,
to share their unpopular Maybe zero women that would go.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Out with There's there's plenty out there. But you know
we used to do. Speaking of things we used to
do on the show, with the dating game, maybe we
should bring back the dating game.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
Remember, you know, there's things we did, Shannon that I
cannot believe we did.
Speaker 9 (21:11):
That.
Speaker 5 (21:12):
We brought in, we wed the dating game. We brought
this woman in.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Do you remember that? And people got to call in
and try and try to date her. Yeah, and she
went on a date with it. We did with two
different women.
Speaker 14 (21:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
Basketball game.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
We sent him to a UK basketball game. I remember
going up to them. They looked so awkward at the
game together. I saw one of those two women not
that long ago, and we laughed about it. But I
can't believe we did that, Shannon. There are things we
did back then that if we did now, we would
(21:52):
people would lose their minds. But we just didn't have
as much attention on us back then.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
You know, I don't think it was that bad. You
think it was that bad that we did.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
I think it would be a it would be it
would be different now, it'd be funny to do.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
I think we could still do that now.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
People don't think who would do it? Would They would
like do it to try to get like famous. Yeah,
that woman was actually trying to be genuine.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
And the dudes.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
Remember the guy called and said, I'll take you to Applebee's,
the nicest apple Bee's you want to go to?
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Yeah? Yeah, Jay.
Speaker 12 (22:19):
Unpopular opinion, Hey, guys, love casts are I got unpopular
opinion about covers a couple of different people.
Speaker 10 (22:29):
First one is Dave buzz Baker. I think he's overrated.
Speaker 12 (22:34):
All he does is every point Cameron Mates, even if
it's about playing basketball.
Speaker 10 (22:39):
He thinks he knows more about it than camera does.
My second one is Chester. He is the biggest cow
suck up for ever was in the state of Kentucky,
and I think he needed to pack his bags. Go
to Arkansas with.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
Cal Wow, he appreciate the call, comes strong, smacking buzz
Baker and smacking checks, mister Drew.
Speaker 7 (23:01):
A lot of people catching strays on today's show, just
minding their own business. I mean earlier with Keith Elkins
reading his scores. Now we got Baker just some people
enjoying their their Wednesday and then.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
Out Wow, that was a that was a very harsh
segment that came after said I couldn't date anybody. Buzz
Baker needed to go home, and Chester should move to Arkansas.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
Whoa be right?
Speaker 13 (23:27):
Judgment?
Speaker 10 (23:30):
T J.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ. He'll make them pay.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
No more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Louisville Golf Scramble goes back on sale, Well, go back
on sale. It goes on sale right as this show ends.
I'll tweet out the link. We'll put it out, Drew.
He put it on the website for.
Speaker 7 (23:50):
The already have it on the website right of rock
going up any moment, all right, we'll put it up
at twelve.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
It is the Louisville Golf Scramble. For ks are that
not not as many teams as Lexington, so make sure
you get in. Usually usually it sails out in the
first day or two, so we'll make sure you get
in a Fi'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
One person rights Matt on the text machine unpopular opinion.
I actually like it when you taught politics. I don't
agree with you, but I don't know any liberal that
(24:18):
isn't crazy, but you aren't, and so I like hearing
your opinion. I guess that's a compliment, right, Shannon, I
don't know any liberal that isn't crazy except you aren't.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
Well, you're the one's not the one, You're the one
that's not According to him, congratulations, that sounds like a compliment. Yeah, yeah,
crazy liberal.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
I mean you need to hear the other side, even
if you even if you don't. Just that part of
the problem. We all get in a bubble and we
don't hear what what other people say. One person writes,
I think Drew should take more vacations because when he leaves,
cool stuff happens.
Speaker 7 (24:52):
I'll leave on Monday, so it's true, cow lay the
cow thing Vin leaving is not cool and stoops day
and m my last three trips where the stops prepare
for something next week. Then yeah, yeah, I leave Saturday,
got a flight Saturday morning. I would say, the moment
I leave Lexington Airport, anything could happen in the UK sphere,
(25:12):
probably while I'm in there.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
Matt, my unpopular opinion actually got me in trouble with
my wife. But I think it's true when women get
lip injections. I actually think it's awful and it turns
my stomach. Well, I mean, I don't understand the lip
injection thing. I really don't like I because they get
(25:35):
I I'm not gonna say it's awful, but I to me,
Drew Ryan, that's because that's like been too much of
a thing, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Because you know, you see all the celebrities do it,
and they get too big, they start to look like
Stiffler's Ma from My Lotus. People overdo it, way over
do it. Like then lip's been stung by a bumblebee
and they swell up.
Speaker 5 (25:59):
Yeah it's like concrete. Yeah we didn't. We haven't had
as many women call today on unpopular openny Day. I'd
like to hear unpopular pens do I even go to
this person, channing. Do I really want to do that?
Speaker 3 (26:08):
I think you should do?
Speaker 14 (26:09):
All right?
Speaker 3 (26:10):
I mean, he celebrates on popular opinion every time he
calls Bob and Jamestown.
Speaker 10 (26:16):
Manual transmission over automatic.
Speaker 12 (26:19):
That I like sticks?
Speaker 4 (26:21):
I bet you do.
Speaker 10 (26:23):
Don't even have to drive a stick?
Speaker 13 (26:25):
You don't?
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Wait, man, you like it and you don't even know
how to do it.
Speaker 12 (26:30):
No, I like sticks over automatic.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Let just put that on a shirt. I like sticks.
Bob and Jamestown, all.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Right, I appreciate the call. I mean some people feel
that way. I don't because I feel like you. It's
a lot.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Is it not less safe to drive a manual because
you only have one hand on the wheel? Right?
Speaker 6 (26:51):
I guess? I guess?
Speaker 4 (26:52):
So what do you mean you guess? Don't they teach
you ten and two? Okay? Well, if you are you
always tending to all ways.
Speaker 6 (27:01):
For you take your apartment highy safety.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
But that's right?
Speaker 10 (27:04):
Please?
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Are you suggesting? I'm not Drew.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
I think sometimes your clock might get off ten in two,
A little bit might just be ten by itself, might
have like an eight fifteen ish. I have an unpopular
opinion that Bob and Jamestown or yeah, Bob and James
sounds one of the best callers on the show.
Speaker 6 (27:21):
We had somebody call in and say that on you.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
You really believe that, you genuinely believe Bob and Jamesound's
one the best.
Speaker 10 (27:27):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (27:27):
Now, if you took his subject matter and just wrote
it down and that's all I had, I would say,
this is awful. But the way it works you up,
and that usually has nothing to do with anything else
we've talked about.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
I think it's good entertainment.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
Okay, Terry is in Shepherdsville. What's your unpopular opinion?
Speaker 10 (27:44):
I went to see Clinton Black my favorite country our
is two weeks ago in New Haven, Kentucky. My unpopular opinion.
If you're a major recording artist that has as many
hits as he does, you gotta play minimum two hours
when you're on stage. He played an iron twenty minutes
he was gone.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
That's a good question. I appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
When you're a headliner of an act, Shannon, how long
do you think a headliner should be forced to play
for you to have to have paid for a full team?
Speaker 3 (28:12):
If like an hour and a half's fair, you think so.
I think some of these go on for too long,
and there's something about leaving them once more if you
didn't get to hear maybe a song that you were
hoping to hear as it wasn't his biggest one.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
I see.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
I'm of the belief, especially as an artist gets older,
they should be required by law to play their biggest hit.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Oh so you want the old man up there who
can barely walk because he's so old, he's still toring
you one.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
But if you're gonna come, if you're Clint Black, you
better sing killing time. I'm not there to hear your
new album Clint Black. Now if you're somebody that's very
popular right now, that's a different scenario. I'm not saying
if you go see I don't know jay Z, he
has to play all of his old m But if
you exist like you haven't put new music out in
(28:59):
ten years, when people come, they are there to see
you play the hits, play the hit.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
But you're saying they got to play at least two hours.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Well, I was asking you, I don't really know.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
Well, I'm just saying, like Willie Nelson, the guy's ninety
three years old. I mean, he's we're lucky that he's
playing any shows, and he's got to.
Speaker 5 (29:16):
Play when you're ninety three years old, I think you
get a break. You can play the amount of time
that you want. Yeah, but like if you go pay like,
what's a huge artist right now? Like Taylor Swift when
she does.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Her thing and she played the long show, she plays
like three hours. That's too much?
Speaker 5 (29:32):
Okay, Okay. I bet the people that go though don't
feel that way. But let's say you go see Pearl Jam.
How long should Pearl Jam.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Play hour and a half? Skill?
Speaker 4 (29:38):
With me, I think I lean more towards two hours, Drew,
What do you think they should play hour and a
half to two? Is my first thought?
Speaker 7 (29:47):
I think anything after two, I'm probably ready to go home.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
I'm tired of standing the.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
Crowd after a while.
Speaker 5 (29:52):
Right, Unless you're Taylor Swift, you probably do Yeah, Right, Ryan,
how long?
Speaker 2 (29:58):
I think two hours is good because the like you said,
you want to leave him want more. You want to
play all their great hits, and you leave the want
and more so they'll come back to the next show.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
The good thing is long.
Speaker 7 (30:07):
If you have a lot of hits, they can get
in their car and listen on the way home that
they're already recorded for them.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
If you're Alice Blue Gun playing in Nashville. You got
to play for four hours appear.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
There's there's controversy, Like there's a lot.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
I always see controversy about my guy, Tyler Childers because
he often does not play Feathered Indians, which is most
sort of generic Tyler Childers fans favorite song. It's not mine,
but it's what a lot of people's are. Do you
think a guy like Tyler Childers, who only has like
four albums, should always shan him play Feathered Indians in
(30:39):
White House.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Road, Yeah, because those are two of his biggest hits, right, so.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
You think it's bad for him not to play Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Like Radiohead, they go out there and they play all
these songs, but they won't play Creep.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
They will not play Creep.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
No, Like why because like this, you don't like the
song because it became popular. These bands that you know,
spend all this time trying to be popular. Then they
achieve that, then they act like they're too cool to
be popular. They're not gonna play their biggest song, and
that's lame.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
But I don't think that's quite the same as Tyler
with But people get mad because he will not he
doesn't play Feathered Indians most of the time now and
it and you. There are videos after every concert of
people being upset about it. Joe and Philly, what's your
unpopular opinion?
Speaker 15 (31:19):
Unpopular opinion? And I feel like I'm on crazy pills?
Is that no matter how bad this football season is,
Mark Scoops is coaching in twenty twenty six. He's got
he's signed through twenty thirty. All the assistants are signed
through twenty twenty six.
Speaker 12 (31:36):
We're not coming up with thirty.
Speaker 15 (31:38):
Six million to send him packing after this year. So
let's just buckle down and make the best of it, boys,
because he ain't going anywhere.
Speaker 10 (31:44):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Well, I mean I appreciate the call, Drew. You think
that unpopular opinion is correct? I think so.
Speaker 7 (31:53):
If I had to make a bet right now, would
he be here in twenty twenty six? I think I'd
probably say yes. Even though I have high hopes for
this coming season, I just think that's the situation Kentucky's in.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
Yeah, I don't want to think about that. I think
if he doesn't win six, I think it'll be too toxic.
But we'll see. Bruce Springsteen apparently goes three hours and
twenty minutes.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
That's way too much.
Speaker 6 (32:14):
It's a lot.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
That's a lot of Bruce.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
That's a lot of Bruce.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
How old is he?
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Oh god, he's got to be.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
But if you're a Bruce fan, though, wouldn't you like that?
Speaker 6 (32:24):
Yeah? You pay a lot of money to go with me,
You pay a.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Lot of money. You play, you go see Bruce Springsteen.
Now you might never see him again.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
Yeah right, wouldn't you want him just to leave it
all out there?
Speaker 6 (32:35):
Play all the hits?
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Three hours though.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
A long time? How are we standing up the whole time? Yeah?
Sometimes I'm sitting down if I'm there that long. Uh.
Nothing says summer like long days la ed La Cruz
and the firing off.
Speaker 5 (32:49):
A few bets on the games at the DraftKings Sports Book.

(33:33):
And by the way, I saw the creek, Drew. I
saw the creek next to the park.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
I saw it.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Can you see it from your house?
Speaker 5 (33:41):
No, But it's on the other side of that bridge,
kind of what Drew said. And it is out now
I see it and it looks it's I'll say it's
a it's a trickling creek. There's not a lot of
water when I had a little bit. It's a little dry,
but it's like I saw it. We'll take a break
(34:03):
be back. Final segment, Chaozar. I do really like this song,
but I'm not sure if I would even make it
one of my top ten of his. I put those
out about every two years, I'll put out on social media,
Shennon my top ten favorite Tyler songs, and you want
to talk about getting engagement, those people will have the
strong opinions. I kind of think I'm not sure there's
(34:24):
any artist in America that is bigger in a state
than Tyler Childers is in Kentucky in disproportion to like
you know what, Like he's popular everywhere, but like here,
it's crazy. Who doesn't like him? Do you know somebody
doesn't like him?
Speaker 6 (34:41):
Nope?
Speaker 4 (34:41):
And every show is sold out, Every show sold out,
like immediately, yep.
Speaker 5 (34:47):
Yeah. One person writes, madam a woman. And here's my
unpopular opinion. Vince Merrill was overrated. He's a good recruiter,
but mediocre. Is a tight end coach, and by the
end the recruiting wasn't even great.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Overrated, Ryan, we can't deny the fact recruiting, he did
things here that nobody has ever been able to do
and may never be able to do again. Out recruit
Alabama and Michigan and Ohio state for kids. Now, we
all knew the tight end position coach, you know, we
had graduate assistants kind of handle most of that over
the years. But that's not what he was here for.
(35:19):
He was here to be the recruiter and he was fantastic.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
True.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
I will completely agree on the tight Ends coach part.
I think losing him in recruiting is a big deal
whatever was going on here in the last few months.
But I mean, has there been a more disappointing position
on the entire roster in the last decade than the
tight Ends? Seems like seems like they're geting good additions,
which is to the point about recruiting, but as far
as developing and actually getting them numbers, there's really hasn't been.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
CJ. Conrad had a good year, but other than that,
there hasn't really been anything.
Speaker 5 (35:50):
So, Drew, should we do this? Should we do evince
story now? Or finish the unpopular opinions and do it tomorrow,
because I gotta tell it, it's one of them on
the subject.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Let's just do it, all right? This is on you, Drew.
For us, this is on you. I'll take it.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
This is one of those things you helped me with.
This with the details, This is one of those things
that I don't think a lot of people do.
Speaker 9 (36:12):
Know.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
What was the Bowl game? Is it? N C State
is that who we were playing? Yes, that was the
Gator Ball n C State. Shannon, do you know this story?
Speaker 10 (36:22):
I do?
Speaker 5 (36:22):
Okay, so n C State. If you remember, they had
fired Eddie Grand but uh, what was it? Liam Cohen
hadn't started yet, right, correct? So Vince called the plays.
He was he was OC for the day, he was
OC for the date.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
It was almost like a reward for him for all
that he had done.
Speaker 6 (36:41):
Right.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
And this is now granted, this is comes from the players.
This is not me saying, okay, Drew. You've heard this
from players too, right.
Speaker 7 (36:53):
I have heard it directly from a player's mouth and
confirmed from another player's mouth.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
Vince is in charge of call plays.
Speaker 5 (37:01):
And if you remember, we ran the ball a ton
that game because we just dominated with the run. And
we ran it one time, two times, three times, four times,
five times, every single time running it to the left,
all right, every play, always to the left, six times,
(37:25):
seven times, eight times, nine times to the left and
the offensive line and the players are like.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
We just keep going left.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
Okay, that's the play call. Tenth time to the left,
eleventh time to the left. The n C State players, Drew,
if I'm correct, or going you guys are going left.
Speaker 7 (37:50):
My favorite part of that is the offensive line, who
I think was Fortner, maybe, Canard maybe and Young. They
were leaned over the ball before the snap and telling
the defensive line, yeah, we're going right there again, and
then would still just.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
Put in C State.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
But n C State is sitting there thinking, Shannon, at
some point they're gonna go right, oh right, yeah, they
just keep.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
Going left left. Twenty two straight runs.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
To the left, and finally one of the offensive linemen
says to Vince, hey, man, you do know that the
and you know, let's say a call is alpha target
burder burder, and they're like, you know that if we
say beta instead of all alpha, we go to the right.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
And Vince is like, oh, yeah, of course I know that.
And then the next play beta and they go right.
But they had run twenty two plays to the left,
and the offensive line believed drew the Vince didn't realize
that you had to say the other one to go right,
which is why they just kept going left. But here's
(39:05):
what's nuts. It worked because NC State kept thinking there's
no way they're gonna run this left again, and they
just kept running it left, likely because they didn't know
that to use the other one, you go right.
Speaker 7 (39:19):
Yeah, Kentucky had almost three hundred yards rushing and ran left.
Every play has told us the players were like actually
giggling a ad Vince, but also giggling in the left
a lot of scrimmage in the trenches, knowing that NC
State couldn't do anything about it.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
They were giggling because they knew Shandon the Vince didn't know,
but it was also working.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
It's really an amazing story. I mean, we're calling our shot,
we're telling you where we're going, and you still can't stop.
Speaker 5 (39:47):
But NC State apparently was still confused. They were like,
they have to go right here at some point.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
But after seventeen times, I would think, okay, we're going.
Why would you just load everybody up on that side
of the world.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Then when they do, when he when the off, it's
lie tells Vice you could do this and go right.
Then they go right and he busts it for thirty
five yards because they had assumed he'll never go right.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
Yeah, I think he could argue, you could argue was
brilliant play Vince Merrill's Park.
Speaker 4 (40:14):
Maybe he knew what he was doing. All I love
that car.
Speaker 5 (40:16):
I love this story because it's so just perfectly Vice,
like he does things that are like come on, Vince,
But you know what, it ended up working and we
won the game.
Speaker 7 (40:28):
And then at the end he was like, how about
those play calls? It shows how good that line was. Yes, right,
everyone knows the exact spot they're running to and still
couldn't still stop it.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
Wes go ahead West.
Speaker 13 (40:41):
That was going on, guys. Uh So I'm gonna build off.
One of the callers earlier said about getting rid of
mile Kentucky helmet football games and stuff. I think it's awful.
I don't think it's an awful song, but I think it's
boring and kind of kills the vibe pre game, and
I think we should replace it with a song called
War that the marching bounce out out. And I feel
like nobody really knows about it.
Speaker 5 (41:02):
Well, I don't know the song to appreciates called to
say I agree or disagree, but I think the old
Kentucky Home. While everyone Drew's ketchup thing has made everybody
the maddest, the old Kentucky Holme one has probably been
the one people who have agreed with the most.
Speaker 4 (41:15):

Speaker 12 (41:20):
Hello, Yes, yeah, my unpopular opinion football opinion here, Jared
Lorenzen is actually the fifth or sixth best quarterback since
two thousand and that's he's a career, never had a
season over sixty.
Speaker 4 (41:37):
So how would you rank him? Real quick?
Speaker 12 (41:40):
For me, I would say Woodson's number one, probably Levis,
number two Stephen Johnson, and then probably Mike Hartline.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
Okay, Ryan, I'll give you a quick rebuttal there's no
way Jared Lorenz is the fifth on this list. The
dude was doing stuff with a team that was very undertalented,
was not as good, and yet he could put up
numbers that are still unmatched to this day.
Speaker 4 (42:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (42:05):
Number one in career yards, number one in single season yards.
Speaker 6 (42:08):
Can't deny that.
Speaker 5 (42:09):
