Welcome everyone, It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at
Beer Knows Pizza in New Albany, Indiana, on Charlestown Crossing
for our annual Uku of l Remote. It is the
serving Louisville style pizza since nineteen seventy seven. Here at
beer Knows. It is the site a Beer Knows in
(00:53):
Southern Indiana of our first remote and we are glad
to be back again. Let me hear from this crowd
this morning. Let everybody know this is an absolutely packed house.
If you're not here, well you're missing out. You can
give U seot the Clark's pumping shot full nine eighty
five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A
vision auto glass text machine is seven seven to two
(01:13):
seven seven four five two five four in this diition
sponsored by the TJ. Smith Office. If you call TJ,
He'll make them pay. It was I guess it was
fall two thousand.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
And eleven eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
When Ryan Lemon and I did our first remote out
in public. It was this game, so but it was
in December and we did it and there were a
lot of people there, not as many people as here today,
but a good crowd, and Ryan, who I thought would
be mister public uh, stood with his back to the crowd, nervous.
And now all these years later, here we are and
(01:48):
once again a great packed house today. First time I
we've ever done it on a Tuesday. We usually do
these on Friday, but now because of the weird game,
this year a Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
I don't know why we ever doubt this fan base
on a Tuesday morning and is packed that we're here.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Early pre show was packed. I want to tape. I
remember that first show. Handsome Jimmy was there and you
put Handsome Jimmy on you and him had.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
A back of Jimmy on baby. That's right.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
That was good Restrict.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Our friend kal Madero's just reminded me this morning he
was there. It's a hungover twenty one year old. Now
he's married in his like he' his thirties.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
It's amazing, it is amazing. And that was that was
a different location, but it was the same same beer
nos And now this morning it is weird with with
with a Kentucky Louisville game in November and on a Tuesday,
on Veterans Day, and big salute to all of our
veterans out there across the state, across the area and
(02:36):
Big Blue Nation. But it is it's odd to have
this game this day, but you know what, it's on
the schedule, so you got to go win it. And
right over there across the River Drew is a chance
to do. I read your post last night and you
still thank you and you said that since since two
thousand and nine, there's only two wins that count that
Louisville has ever beaten us in that amount of time
(02:58):
as they try to get number three to more, both
by three points. Actually, the last four times Louisville has won,
even going farther back, all been by three points. So
even when they're able to pull it off. It's been
one spread is it's three and a one in one
book and two and a half in the other one.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
Again us up to four and a half now, dang early.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
It's interesting. We'll talk a little bit about that. I mean, Louisville,
I think is I listened to a lot of the
national guys last night. Louisville's kind of considered definitively the favorite.
We'll see if that's the right decision. But I think
about all the times that we've done these shows over
the year, and I think about specifically the games over there,
because I actually think you could make an argument that
outside the NCAA tournament, the biggest Kentucky wins since Cal
(03:44):
got here have all been Ryan in the jmsen Okay,
start with Jeordes and the game where I don't think
anybody thought we were gonna win that season, and when
not only won, we absolutely dominated him, Terrence Jones and
George crushed them. I watched it with Paron Johnson at
the TV station and laughing at him the entire time.
I think of twenty the twenty fifteen team, when you
(04:06):
know Willie was pointing at Montres Harrell over here and
mocking him as he as he hit the ground after
dunking on him. You had the Tyler Eulis game of course,
that well, that was the same game I think with
the with the blood coming down his face. This I
think this place has actually produced more of the good games,
Ryan than the ones that have been a ruugh, which
(04:28):
we generally just won going away. Every time you.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Mentioned when you said about games that over here at
the Umpster that I immediately went to that twenty fifteen Gamecuse
that's the one they just totally dominated. I think we
all realized at that point this team is special. The
way they came in there and just dismantled a good
Louisville team. We thought, oh my goodness, this team could
really seriously do that forty and oh run we were
talking about.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Now. This year's game has had Sheddon more trash talking
than probably and so you know, it was always very
important to Kada act like this game was different. Uh
they started it right, But I loved otaga Oway yesterday
he had like like a sly grin on his face.
They said, I'm not trash talking. I'll talk after we win,
which in and of itself is kind of trash talking.
(05:08):
I loved it.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
He also said, I just want to see him face
to face. That tells me there's going to be some fireworks.
There's going to be a dust up at some point
of this game. I wouldn't be surprised if it's in
the first five minutes of the game.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Well, they're gonna start it, but we have some guys
that will continue it. I mean, I think you can
guarant I'd like to have the over under point five
technicals on Brandon Garrison over. Yeah, over, I think I
would take the over if I was gonna bet that.
Speaker 7 (05:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
I mean, we saw this last year in Rupperena Garrison
mixing it up. There was the moment over on the
sideline where Poping's up putting Pat Kelsey in a in
a headlock, like he's.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
A little forgot about that little doll over there.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
But you know, sometimes for all of Pope's good, sometimes
I worry if he's got that fire to really, you know,
get him round up for something like this. And then
our boy prior him making that comment, and then we
saw how the guys reacted yesterday. You know, Pat Kelsey
kind of infended him. So that's his personality. But I'm
sure on the inside he's like yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I mean you can see Kelsey was like he didn't
like it. Here's what I would say, right. A consistent
theme of all Kentucky teams in the last twenty years
that have been really good is this, they show up
on the road as like dogs that want to win.
I mean, they don't always win every road game, but
they come out ready to punch people in the mouth.
I mean, I sit there and think about DeMarcus Cousins,
(06:26):
the twenty fifteen team, Anthony Davis, Fox, Monk Okay. So
I just named you what I think are the four
best teams in the last fifteen years. One of the
things is you could see in their eyes before they
started a road game, they were like, I love this.
I love this environment. I love that everybody screaming at me.
I love that everybody hates me. They embrace the hate.
(06:49):
I'll be interested to see tonight, Ryan, And this is
the earliest I can remember us ever having one of
these games. Will this team be like that? And I
think they will, but it'll be interesting.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I think they will too.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
I think we've got a couple of guys that have
been on the road in some rough environments before. You know,
Aberdeen's played in some rough environments when he was in Florida.
Diabate played some rough virt tis in Alabama more exactly.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Oh wait last year. Yeah, Jalen Lowe at Pitt. Jalen
low when he was at Pitt, everywhere they went, he
was the person they yelled at because he was the
only good player they had. Right. You mentioned Brandon Garrison.
So there's a lot of those guys.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
You mentioned the five guys. Those five guys.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
I go to war with those five guys tonight, going
into the hospital environment like that.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Lowe's played here.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
He knows what it's like to be to beat Louisville here,
so he knows how to handle the crowd.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
I'm not worried about it.
Speaker 6 (07:32):
I'm just glad that the trash talking has started, because
that's what we need to throw some gas on the
fire in this robbery. I think that there's too much
mutual respect between Kelsey and Pope. I don't think they're
gonna be the ones that start it. But that that's
all we needed that comment from prior after the last
lovel game.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
All Right, so let's talk about this game being this
early in the year. First of all, I think it stinks.
I hope these two programs don't ever do this again,
as I understand that the reason this has to happen
is that when we play at Louisville, it's the ACC
schedule that just dictates the game. The ACC does not
have slots on ESPN on Saturdays in December, so basically,
(08:11):
if you're gonna play an ACC home game, it's gonna
have to be in November. Kentucky apparently his petition to
ask if they can flip one of their slots to
for Louisville so that in the future this will always
be in December. But this year it's the third game
in November. How does that affect the game?
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (08:28):
You know, for the fans, we don't love it. It's
weird being before the football game. I like, you know,
we normally win this, and it's right around Christmas. I
love spoiling Louisville' Christmas. It's truly my favorite part of
the holiday season. I don't love it today, but I'll
be honest, I don't need a calendar.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
To hate Louisville.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Hated him yesterday, I hate him today, I'll hate him tomorrow.
I'll hate him when Christmas gets here, so we'll get
up for it. But it doesn't feel right like we
didn't have the build up.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
We've only played two basketball games, so I hope he
gives moved back, but I'll still be fired up tonight.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
I listened a little bit to Mike Rutherford, who is
the kind of one of Louisville's big reporters. I listened
to his podcast and he said that he thinks, and
I think this is a good true that if you
ask the two fan bases, Ryan, on Thursday, what do
you think is gonna happen? Louisville fans would have been
certain they were gonna win, and we wouldn't have felt
(09:18):
great about it. Then we come out pound Valpo, look
like that offense that we thought it would be. They
then lose the football game to Cow and now they're like,
they're gonna beat us again, aren't they? And I think Ryan,
there's a little bit of that. I think they have
a little bit of are you kidding me? They're gonna
(09:38):
come in here and beat us again?
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Yeah. I think we all thought they might be Kentucky
might be limping into this.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Game and we'd be Florida football too.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
By the way, Amen, Yeah, I gotta throw that in there.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
The fact that you know, Low came back and looks
so well, Aberdeen played came in and playing so well.
I think they just adds to our optimism about what
can happen tonight.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Maybe scare Louis a little bit.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
I mean, they may have the best guard on the floor,
but our backcourt is better than their backport.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
They have the most talented guard on the floor, but
he's just in his third game, right, and he hasn't
I mean, I think he's gonna be great. Like, I'm
not trying to downplay him, but you know, I'm kind
of glad we're catching him now because I think by
the time you get to January and February, that kid's
gonna be really good. This is just his third game, Shannon,
this is his first big game, so it's a little
(10:24):
bit of a different situation.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
Both teams also trying to figure out manage minutes, try
to figure out their rotation, so it's gonna be, you know,
a learning curve I think for both teams tonight. But regardless,
this game just means so much to this fan base.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Now, how many of you are going to the game tonight. Now,
I mean, you can just see that's a pretty good
crowd of hands. I think, Drew, there's gonna be more
Kentucky fans in that building. I'm going to the Young
Center for the first time in like eight years tonight.
I haven't been there.
Speaker 8 (10:51):
What are you out of your mind trying not to
get punched?
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yeah, I mean I haven't been there. I haven't been
there for a UKU of L game in a long time.
But you know what, I was like, why not, I'll
go down to the studio, I'll do show. I'll walk
over there and uh, the last time I was there,
their students section chanted, f you, Matt as I walked
into the game into the arena, and so, uh, we're
gonna try to do that again. Mario's going to He's
(11:15):
gonna have to protect me. I've never covered a literally
only five seven bodyguard in the entire He's got his
chain wallet throughs.
Speaker 8 (11:24):
Don't forget your letter of pants tonight.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
That'll really intimidated.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
I thought I never covered a Kentucky Louisville game, football
or basketball in this in the city. I always thought
I'd stay away, But then last summer I thought you
know what, I'm a tiptoe win. I'll go to the
TBT game just see how I fit in their community.
You're gonna eat and I got hit and I'm like,
you know what, that's why I don't go to their events.
So I will be at home on the couch. I'm
o for one on being in the same building as
I did.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
I didn't request a credential till yesterday, so I don't
have a seat, so I may have to roam around
and maybe that I don't know if that's the smartest
move in the world, but I think that's what I'm
gonna have to do.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
But I feel like you're right.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
I think a lot of Blues is gonna get in,
so you may have a lot of people there to protect.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
You know, how much do you think, by the way,
if we're gonna go like percentage wise Kentucky fans get
in today, Well, there have.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Been games in there. I mean there have been games
in there where I think they've had twenty five percent
of the crowd. I'd say tonight won't be quite that
because because they're they're more excited about their team with Kelsey.
But I think it'll be a lot and I think
as you go to the top, it'll be a ton
of Kentucky fans. Yeah, because those are the tickets that
(12:27):
went on sale to the general.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
This is the one game that Pat Kelsey doesn't have
to go out and beg fans to actually come see
them play.
Speaker 8 (12:32):
They'll show up voluntarily tonight.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Well, I mean they have not had good crowds so far. No, sure,
but I actually but tonight it will. It will be full.
Do you expect this group to be a group that
the crowd impacts, meaning our team?
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (12:45):
I think so, and in a negative or positive way. Positive. Okay,
both of these teams are new.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
But on the Kentucky side, you still have Old Way
who had seventeen points in this game last year. You
have Brandon Garrison who tried to break someone's face last year.
Jayla Loewey tho it was a different team. He's played
Louisville plenty of times, played well. Pat Kelsey has lots
of good comments about him. So you know, Louisville's got freshmen.
They're pretty new team. We're a new roster, but we
have more guys that have actually been in this specific
(13:11):
rivalry game, and I think they'll be ready for the
moment and at the.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
End of the day. One thing to remember. Since the
series restarted in nineteen eighty three, Kentucky is thirty one
and fourteen. Even if you allow them the games that
they have over the years had taken away by the NCAA,
we are still eleven and three in the last fourteen.
We absolutely own them, and there's no reason to think
(13:35):
it won't continue tonight. If I'm nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven, the text machine is seven seven
two seven seven four five two five four. We're gonna
take a break. We are here at Beer Knows in
Southern Indiana. We'll be right back to Kentucky Sports Radio.
Warner back, it is Kentucky Sports Radio. Herelve at Beer
Knows in Southern Indiana. I do want to take a
(13:55):
second to just sit here and like I want you
to look at this crowd on a Tuesday more. I mean,
it's Tuesday in November. It's barely college basketball season, and
we're not only closer to their home city, we're in
a different state and this place is absolutely full. There
is nothing like the Big Blue Nation anywhere. I would
argue anywhere in sports, but certainly Drew anywhere in college basketball.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
Yeah, and I like the show off HANSI earlier of
who's going to the game too. That gives me more
optimism about the crowd. Even liked that some of those
people are already having a beer and it's not even
ten thirty, so it should be a good environment tonight.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
You know, Drew and I are going this weekend to
Buffalo for the Bills. We're going to Tampa Bay and Buffalo,
and that's obviously a fan base that has a unique
set of passion. I'm interested to see and compare it.
Are you going through a table this year? I'm so excited. Well,
there's a balance because I want to join the mafia.
Bill's MafA.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
We do have to work, but we have to do
a podcast that evening, So got to be a pitch
count that we'll figure out in there somewhere.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
I'm excited to get up there. Let me also apologize
to people about the audio on cover zero. It's Billy's fault.
You should blame him. No, it's not Billy's fault. It
just I'm just kidding. It's not Billy's fault. It just
it just said if looks could killers, But no it
(15:14):
just it didn't for whatever reason, the studio did not
work well, which stinks because I actually think it was
like our best episode. But you could hear it, but
it doesn't sound the best because of it. The line
Drew has jumped to now Louisville by six and a half.
It it started, It started on Draft Kings at two
and a half. It started on the other one at
(15:35):
three and a half. It's gone up to six and
a half. Now, you rarely, rarely in a college basketball
game absent an injury, see ah see a move on
the line that much? Are you? Is there something we
don't know? Or is it just like early Like what
do you? What do you make of that? That is
extremely rare. That's weird.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
And I hammered the three and a half. I'm kicking
myself now. I didn't think i'd get a better number.
I'ma have to get my money up with Garrett and
double down on this. I can't believe it's six and
a half without truths coming out and I haven't.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Seen or heard of anything. Yeah, so I would say
to you promo code KSR, I mean you, six and
a half is a heck of it. I can't imagine
it stays at that. Normally, if I were to see
a six and a move of four points this far
before a game, you would have to think there's some
piece of news that has leaked out. I have not
seen anything. I've not heard anything, but Shannon, that is
(16:24):
a really surprising move. And I don't think Louisville. I
think Louisville could win, but I don't think they deserve
to be a six and a half point move.
Speaker 8 (16:32):
Two points.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
Just this morning, it was four and a half when
I woke up. Now six and a half. I just
threw some money on it, So let's go. I hope
I'll get tuck three of course, three leg parlay o
way fifteen or more.
Speaker 8 (16:43):
I did under on the one seventy four and a half.
That feels kind of high.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
I actually think this will ryan not be a high
scoring game because I think both teams are still fining
their offense. I think these teams are built a lot
of like, to be honest with you, and actually I
think under is probably a smart move.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
They are very similar, especially on the offensive end.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
They like to push the pace, get it up and
down the floor, so on that aspect.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
You'd think they would scrore a lot of points.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
But Kentucky's defense to me, I believe is elite, elite, elite.
So I think they're gonna shut them down tonight.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Because it's a big game. I brought out drew. These
are the oh it must be the true blue customs.
These nearly not. This is the shoes, the exact same
kind of shoes Ashton Hagen's war. You may remember when
he when he destroyed them in that game. Here this
is not the exact same pair, but it's the same ones.
I brought them out. Haven't worn these in a number
(17:32):
of years as well.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
Just shows how important this game is. We all have
to do our part. And I know you're putting on
your big, your game day shoes there to get fired up.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
Your shoes look like cake. Have you seen these things
on the online words? Is it cake? And it looks
like you can cut right through it? What do you
mean those shoes look like have you not seen that before? No,
it's like things that look very realistic, but it's called
is it cake? And you just show they just showing
like cutting a nire through it. Your shoes look like that.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
That's a nice Instagram algorithm that you're on who's the
key player tonight for us? By the way, I mean,
I think, oh to me, always a given. You can
go ahead and sign up away for thirteen to sixteen
points tonight. Right now, he'll be in that you said fifteen. Yep,
that's where he's gonna be. I don't want to keep
saying Jayalen Lowe is important, but he's important. But if
(18:18):
you go back and look, I'm gonna assume those two
guys play well. Jayalen Low's played well against Louisville multiple times,
always oh way. But if you look at Kentucky's wins
over the year against Louisville, there's always another guy. There's
always some guy that's a secondary player like Dominie Hawkins
was Georg's was that one year?
Speaker 4 (18:38):
Who woo woo coush wukush that's right, So who is
that guy?
Speaker 2 (18:45):
Who? Do you think.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
There will be one of those guys? Because there always is.
And for me, I am gonna look towards the mountains
and go with trenton Oa. Do you think he's playing
from three?
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Well?
Speaker 5 (18:56):
I was gonna add as long as he's healthy, because
we don't know anything officially. If Trent know what plays.
That's a guy who knows plenty about this rivalry. I
don't think he even got in much at all last
year though. So one of those under radar guys that
I think you surprised everyone is Trent Noa getting hot.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
How about I go Yellovich. I think then we need
to Ma needs some outside shooting tonight, and that's one
thing he can do.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
He would be a surprise if he can't.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
Maybe get somebody Cedric Jenkins and gonna big guy George
who cost a big guy usually does something surprising.
Speaker 8 (19:24):
Yellow Itch Moreno has been my guy from the beginning.
You can ask Billy.
Speaker 6 (19:28):
I was telling him, I think he's gonna be the
guy that's gonna surprise some people off the bench. Of course,
he just had eighteen last games, so it might not
be that big of surprise if he has a big
game tonight, but I think that he will tonight.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
If you listen to this show, you're gonna be very
surprised with my answer. I see three three pointers from
a guy who's only made one all year. Cam Williams
is gonna come in because he's gonna get the looks. Okay,
he's gonna get the looks tonight, he has not made them.
What would be more of a way to drive Louisville
(19:57):
fans crazy than a guy who has not made a
shot all year to come in and hit three against them.
That would be to me, that would eat at them
more than anything else, which is why I'd like to see.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
It, not even one of the guys they're looking to.
It'd be nice, you know, I still think he needs
to break out of his shell. It'd be nice for
him to have a big game. And you know, we
always have the pictures of the guys that play well
doing the the l's down, they get that MVP trophy.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
I'd love for him, for him to be in that conversation.
I also remember Antonio Reeves did it. He Antonio Reeves
did it two years ago when he wasn't Antonio Reeves
yet or you know, you know, not his senior year,
he's junior year. He actually hit a couple of big
shots in this game Ryan before he was Antonio Reeves,
and then the next year he went off in this game.
He was a guy who did really well in this series.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Can Williams is a good pick because we don't know Trent.
No one's gonna play. If Trent doesn't play well, that
gets cam minnies maybe some more minutes to get out there,
maybe help him and do something.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Eight five, nine, two eighth, twenty two eighty seven. We're
gonna talk more about the game. I do want to
take just a second because you know that nobody loves UH.
If you think about the history UK basketball, the people
who hated Louisville the most. Number one was Bill Kiteley,
but number two was probably is probably Oscar Combs. And
(21:08):
yesterday Oscar announced that his wife, Donna, Combe's wife of
sixty one years, passed away from cancer. I just want
to take us out. It's very very sad. But also
on this UK U of l day, just to note
because there's a whole generation fans. I'd say a lot
of people in here know this, but there's a whole
generation of fans who listen to us who don't realize
(21:31):
Oscar Combe's history and his wife was a big part
of that started. The Cat's pause basically made modern UK fandom.
Modern UK fan media started with him, not just at UK,
He and the and the place at Notre Dame started
the whole notion of fan media all over the country.
They had two of it. They were like, we can
(21:52):
market directly to fans. It doesn't just have to be newspapers.
His wife did a ton of the business stuff around
Cat's pause. Oscar was the face, but like a lot
of wives, she was in the background doing a lot
of the work. He would be the most nerd. You
think I'm nervous during uku of L games, you should
have seen Oscar back in the day. He'd be backstage, pacing,
(22:13):
nervous about it. That couple really is, in my opinion,
the first couple of UK media and KSR would not
be here. Without Oscar Combs and you folks here in
the crowd, this would not have happened. So I want
to take a second to honor her passing. Please everybody
pray for Oscar. Nobody was closer with their wife than
he was. And I hope tonight they get a win
(22:36):
in her honor because I'd love to see Oscar Combs
happy after the game this season. We're gonna take a
break and we'll be right back here to talk more
about the game. Little football news as well. This is
Kentucky Sports Radio Live at Beer Nos in Southern Indiana.
Workome back It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live, and
Beer Knows, Beer Knows has the Mama Beer knows, pizza, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions,
(22:59):
green Evers, black Olls, blue black Holls, greenolves, top with
the finest mozzarella cheese or their delicious sandwiches. Check it out.
It is Mama Beer Knows. I love Beer Knows pizza.
Leave aside the black olives, but the pepperoni and the rest.
I'm a huge us.
Speaker 8 (23:13):
I'll take the black olives loaded up, man, I love beers.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
All right, let's there you go. Eight five nine two
eight zero twenty two eighty seven. Uh, somebody sent me
a message. I think this is true. Tonight, Kentucky and
Louisville fans, right or excuse me, Kentucky and Louisville players
will be wearing a black band on their jerseys in
honor of the victims of the crash with the ups flight,
the fourteen victims that occur, which I think is a
(23:38):
really nice thing for the for the game tonight.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Nice touch for both teams to do that step up
because it affected all of us and in this state,
so good job.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Yes. Eight feb nine, two twenty two eighty seven. Still
don't know why it went to six and a half,
but a chance to make some money. Let's quickly before
we go the phone stoops. It was announced, Drew said
Zach Calzada. He basically insinuated he didn't play in the
last game as a punishment, but that all is good now.
He took responsibility and he basically said, hey, we're good.
(24:07):
And then he also kind of took a shot I
think at Garrett he was. He essentially said, we don't
need fans trolling the players. Uh So, I thought, I thought,
kind of the reaction we had, it looks like Calzada
will be going forward if he needed to play, be
able to play.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
Yeah, I thought it was interesting he added that part
at the end. I mean, I agree with him, you
shouldn't do that. But to hear, you know, a coach
said that in the press conference. That's not normally a
stoops is He's mister, I don't want headlines, you know,
he's usually sticking to the script. But he made a
point to say we will not surrender to trolls.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Is that Yeah, that's how he said it. We will
not say that exact, but something like that. Yeah, I'm
gonna say, he said, we won't give into the trolls
attention to the trolls. Is it possible, Ryan, that they
use this as a rallying point that as weird as
that went, part of me wonders if the Garrett phone
call might not have been a little bit of a
rallying point like this, dude, you know this, dude, what's
(25:01):
he he did it? Because you know the fact that
the players did it and didn't, I mean, our starting
quarterback did it like they they clearly didn't think they
were going to get in trouble for it. I wonder
if they used that whole thing as a rallying point.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
I have no doubt it's been a rallying point and
as unified that locker room, maybe a little bit more
than even was, because you know, that is not.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
The only player that gets trolled like that. Most of
them do.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
If you play, you're getting trolled by some redneck hillbilly
fan out there.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Whoa, whoa, whoa? What are you getting all worked up for?
Speaker 3 (25:32):
I'm back in my home state today, I can say
how I feel.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
But that's right. Yeah, I read.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
Garrett's He issued an apology last night. Garrett, No, it
was Okay, I'll get.
Speaker 8 (25:48):
It for you have to read it.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
But first of all, everybody's Garrett enough of a public
figure to need to apologize.
Speaker 6 (25:54):
He's enough of a public figure for buzz Baker to
retweet them.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Well, I wonder until I saw it, I wonder for
a reason to get it because he was getting so
much pushback. People were clapping back at him.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Okay, so what a Garrett say, I haven't got a patol?
All right, Well you're looking it up. Do you think
it may have been used as a rally?
Speaker 6 (26:11):
I think that we've got Garrett's picture up in the
locker room, and that's gonna be the guy that we're
gonna use his motivation to finish the season and go
to a bowl.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Very long tweet. It's a very long tweet. I'm gonna
do the short version. Hey everyone, I've thought about my actions,
and the message I said was uncalled for and very immature.
It does not reflect on me as a person, and
I'm sorry to Zach for putting it out there. It
makes me and our football program look bad as a whole.
Blah blah blah blah blah. I'm the biggest Kentucky fan
in the world, and it makes our fan base look poor.
(26:39):
I will do better and I will continue to cheer
on the Cats. Now it's time to go get my
money up and watch Kentucky take down the Cards tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Not I like that part.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
I did like that. That's a good way to end it.
Maybe maybe we all learn something through all this, Drew Franklin.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
Well, we all need to be more financially responsible. We've
learned that we need to get our money up.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
I like Garrett.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
He's replying to a lot of people, well, kind of
being self deprecating. He's like, I gotta go back to
just getting my money up. I mean he's looking to
it too. So everybody, it's become fun.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Now maybe everybody will score a w off this, which
I wouldn't have necessarily seen. All Right, who's up first? God,
Brant up first, Brent, go ahead, Brant.
Speaker 7 (27:17):
Hey Mack, good morning, guys. Hey, two things real quick first.
After the louisvill player said that about Kentucky, I feel
like the Kentucky guys on this team, the ones that
are you know, from Kentucky, They're gonna come in and
play very motivated tonight. I feel really good about uskating
that win. And then secondly, on the football side, Steeps
is gonna beat Louisville. I just I'm gonna already feel it.
(27:38):
Vince left him to go to Louisville. He already hates Louisville.
I feel like that's gonna be another win and he's
gonna get to six and six. Thanks guys, Go Cats.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
I want you to think about just a second, like
we can do this tonight, because who knows if we'll
be able to do it tomorrow. Drew, I want you
to think about the psyche of a Louisville fan if
over the next two weeks we beat them in basketball
and football, Okay, because they would have like they basically
would have thought the football game was a given even
ten days ago, and then with the basketball game, maybe
(28:09):
especially after we lost to Georgetown, they probably thought, hey,
we got what if we took them down Drew in
both of these games in the next two weeks, both
of them on their home field, home court. I think
that would be pretty nice from the psyche.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
Pat Yeah, they've been very cocky lately now, not since
the weekend, but just a week ago. Play off, this
playoff that Kelsey's gonna get Pope Kentucky, you know, complaining
about their roster, saying we don't have any stars. We've
all seen all this stuff on Twitter, and now their
tone has changed, and this morning, I know it's a
lot of more of the Kentucky optimism and confidence online
(28:45):
than what we're hearing from Louisill fans.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
For someone, it's not just that there's a little segment
of Louisvill fans Ryan you know this, that think they're
gonna get Cutter Bowli next year. I mean there's a
segment of little they think that. There's a segment that
believe all because you know, Vince was the main recruiter
of Cutter when he was in when he was in Lexington.
There are Louisville fans that think that if you were
to go in and beat them twice, I think that
(29:07):
would be absolutely only.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
I think we all agree with Kentucky fans.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
We cannot wait to win this game at the Ump
Center and then come back in a couple weeks and
beat them on their home football field and just ruin
what they thought was gonna be a special season.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Cannot wait.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
I gotta give them a compliment though, It's amazing how
they talk themselves into stuff, only to lose all the time.
It is really truly incredible how they get up in
the morning and talk themselves into things. You cut up,
Bowie is not going to Louisville. But the fact that
they would even dream that just added to the list
of them being delirious.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
You do have to give them some credit for delusional
self confidence. I mean, they really are Charlie Brown kicking
the football. I mean they lose, and they lose, and
they lose, and then they get up Shannon and they're confident. Well,
you know this year because their argument always flips. You know,
for years they were like Col's freshman will never be able.
We're experienced, and now this year they're going had those
(29:54):
experienced guys they're not as good as our talent, Like
they just don't they find a way to talk themselves into.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
Couple of years ago, you know, the fan base kind
of got quiet, really wasn't chesty.
Speaker 8 (30:03):
But now i've kind of since that's coming back. That's true. Yeah,
that was just pathetic what happened there.
Speaker 6 (30:09):
But then they came back, you know, and now they're
they're kind of back to where they were before.
Speaker 8 (30:12):
But I think we shut them up tonight.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
And Kelsey's got a good roster. But they gave all
the recruits they said they were getting and zero of
them went there. They were gonna get DJ Wagner and
then they were gonna get them to transfer there. What's
the everybody was like bidding on some recruit last fall.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
I don't even remember.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
I didn't really get involved in that where you could
like pay and the kid would maybe go to your school.
I remember that Caleb Wilson somebody they thought they were
getting him, the kid that just went to Kansas. But
all of these guys, they had them already playing for
Louisville in their minds, just to lose.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Again.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Let's talk about their actual team. So they they're a
lot like us. I mean, they've got a lot of
guards who can who can get around. They've got the
kid from Virginia is a pretty good shooter. Prior has
not played much. You've got Michael Brown there. They got
a lot of unknowns. They really have not played well
this year yet. I mean they lost to Kansas by
(31:03):
a lot. There of course saying well, kanns a lot
better than Kentucky even their two games, their first two
games have kind of been. I mean, they have not
looked good yet, so Ryan, it's hard for me to
know what they are because I haven't really seen them
play well yet. We've at least played well in a
couple of games.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Yeah, I don't know a whole lot about him yet.
I did listen to one of their games, was on
the radio, because I had him on eight forty an
whas after your post game show again the next day
in the game was.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
By the way, that's you want to talk about. For
those of you from the Louisville area, how about this,
how about Kentucky's gotten to the point that our pregame
and post game show preempts their games? Okay, no, I
mean think about that for a minute. Yeah, when I
started on the radio, Louisville games preempted Kentucky games. Now
(31:48):
the KSR postgame show preempts their actual game. Nevertheless, go ahead,
and I know.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
They got three guys that are pretty Goodhooter Brown. I
think one name's.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
McNeely, I mean me, he's a guy from Virginia.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
And then I got a third guy. And they like
to play temple, which kind of that's what we like
to do.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Offensively. I just think Ard Bennage is on the defensive end.
I just think we're so elite defensively.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
I don't know how much you're able to get inside
and get those shots off.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
We have a text from a woman Karen Blondell, that's
my mother. I've heard of Karen blonde saying, please tell
Ryan to be careful with dispirit disparaging hillbillies. Even though
I do like him, I am myself to apologize.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
No, because I'm myself a hillbilly.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
You're not gonna apologize to my mother.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Oh, I apologize your mother all day long. Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 8 (32:29):
I don't think she was offended.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
No, I think she was offended on behalf.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
I think since I am a hillbilly, can I make
fun of other hillbillies?
Speaker 2 (32:37):
H Yeah, you're gonna give him? Let him? Yeah, all right,
fair enough.
Speaker 8 (32:43):
I was like, it's a way with things that other
people don't, you know, listen.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
When it comes to especially when it comes to misogynistic.
Speaker 8 (32:49):
Comments like oh it's just Ryan, Oh.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
It's just right.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
He's an excitable boy.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
We'll play evenfore is that pot roast right up his chest?

(33:34):
It is Kentucky sports Radio. You got Ryan's over here
telling me he's you are not from the hills. Oh well,
Indiana is not the hills. That's not true. There are
no that's not hills, the hills. Eastern Kentucky's the hills.
This is different. This is Indiana. That's not the same thing.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
You've not been over there and see not well Indiana then,
But I thought you said Indiana's flat and cornfields.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
The word hill billy implies hills.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
If you live in it, you're a flat billy.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
Half of Indiana's hilly is the part you're from, Hilly
half and half we got.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
We got a good solid four hundred residents in Otwell, Indiana.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
We're proud of it.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Damn it.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Uh twenty two eighty seven. Uh, let's what Brian Kelly? Okay,
so did you see? Just interesting to watch? Probably's not
gonna matter now for Kentucky after these two wins. I
don't think we're gonna get to a situation that we
thought we would. But Brian Kelly was owed fifty four
million dollars. Apparently LSU went up to him and said,
(34:39):
we'll give you thirty just to drop everything and go.
Brian Kelly said, you owe me fifty four, you're giving
me all fifty four. So now LSU is apparently is
considering saying that they fired him for cause. I don't
know how their argument is, we haven't actually fired you yet.
(35:00):
We are going to fire you for cause. I don't
know how they get away with that since they haven't
let him coach. So he has now file a lawsuit
asking for his fifty four million dollars. He's filing it
this morning. Chinnon. This there's an alternate world where if
we had lost to Auburn and Florida. This could be
our life, Okay, I mean there's an alternate world that
(35:21):
that could have happened, but that Brian Lsu had this
issue with Orgeron, now with Kelly, and Brian Kelly, who
seems like such a nice guy he is, he is
like saying, I want all of my money and he's asking.
Speaker 6 (35:35):
For all fifty four million, and I'm glad we would
you do the same, you know, I mean if it's
in the contract, why are we signing the contract that
says fifty four million? It's there? So I feel like
Lsu owes him that money. That the thing is, how
are they going to find a cause they're gonna make
something out of the blue, you know that.
Speaker 8 (35:50):
Uh Okay, Well I would.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Say to Brian Kelly, I hope you haven't done anything
wrong in the last three or four years, cause I
mean that's that's what they'll you know. That's why this
starts to get dangerous is because you know, I mean
with Orgeron, when he started fighting it, they were like, hey,
who was that woman that went to all the practices?
That was not your wife? Like like that's the you
know you better like you better make sure because it
(36:13):
sounds like LSU finds a way to find stuff.
Speaker 5 (36:15):
Yeah, and I'm not here to defend Brian Kelly. He
seems like an arrogant jerk. But I will say they
made an agreement, and you know, I would probably work
with him by firing his shoes. But I completely understand
why he hold his ground. Some piece of paper they
signed said fifty four million.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
I'll ask you, guys, Let's assume you had done nothing wrong,
because in your mind, if you do something wrong, maybe
you would sign it. Yep. Let's assume you've done nothing wrong.
They owe you fifty four million. They say, we'll give
you thirty and we won't fight it. Are you taking
the fifty four?
Speaker 3 (36:42):
You?
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Are you taking the thirty? You're fighting for the fifty five?
Speaker 8 (36:44):
Fighting for the fifty four?
Speaker 2 (36:45):
What about you?
Speaker 3 (36:46):
I'm fighting for the fifty four. I don't know LSU anything.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Yeah, and you am me you had fifty called fifty.
I'm not going to thirty. Yeah, that's a big jump.
Speaker 8 (36:57):
In that situation, Matt.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
I mean, if I haven't done anything wrong and I
think the contract is right, I'm gonna say I might
be like Drew. I mean, I literally might be like,
all right, we don't want to pay for the legal fees,
so go to forty eight or fifty, but like you
owe me the money.
Speaker 8 (37:13):
Yeah, I mean thirty is a big difference.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
It's a U and it's not like Mark Stoops here.
Mark Stoops has good will with Kentucky. He'd like to
come back and get the Rich Brooks Tubby Smith treatment.
He'd like to have that. Brian Kelly has no good will.
He's like, you all just threw your middle fingers up
at me. So all the more reason I wouldn't want.
Speaker 8 (37:33):
This is not LSU for signing a lucrative deal.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
It is so.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
I got a question though, Yeah, if they're removing from
his coaching duties, how can they come back later?
Speaker 2 (37:41):
And that argument seems ridiculous to me. Let me ask
you a question. Just the thought here. If I were
to say historically number one card killer in UK basketball history,
when I say who is the card killer? Who's your
top three in UK basketball history? Who would you put
in the list? Rex? I think Rex has gotta be
(38:05):
on it. I don't know if he's number one, but
Rex has got to be on it because Rex was
he had what two really good games against.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
All times he played Louisville.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
He dominated both times he played Louisville, so Rex would
be one who else?
Speaker 5 (38:16):
So hung up on the calio where most of them
only played him one time, trying to think of somebody
who multiple games.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Kyle Us had two really good games against them, if
you wanted to if you wanted to do it that
he had two, two really excellent.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
Aaron Harrison went undefeated against them and hit the the
shot that knocked him out of the tournament.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
That's and that was their beloved team because Aaron, because
that team, we beat them twice that year. I mean,
we obviously remember the tournament, but a lot of people
forget that we also beat him in the regular season.
Surprised him that year in that one.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
As well, the Harrison's where they go four and oh
against him, because then they won him the TVT. So
they just they just kept there's your answer out harrowing
in the tv T. Yes, still ask my job about
the TVT. I still feel it, so of course I'm
counting it. I think Eron Harrison has to.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Be in it. You know, that's interesting how many people
in the UK history have gone for and oh against
the against Louisville. Probably not many.
Speaker 5 (39:12):
With a buzzer beater in the tournament that sent him
home or not a buzzer beater, but I'll take.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
The Harrisons as one of them. That's good. What about
older I mean we always remember Cedric Jenkins made the tip,
But what about just in general? Who was the guy
that you knew would play play well against Louisville.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Yeah, we mentioned Wukash, I mean, is kind of a
role player, but you always seen to have his best.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Game out of the year against Louisville.
Speaker 8 (39:32):
So it was only one year. But Patrick Sparks Sparks.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
That's a really good one. That's a that's a great
uk U of l moment when k Tubby comes up
to him, goes, what are you doing for Thanksgiving? And
then he just hits all those free throws. Do you
think he walked? No?
Speaker 5 (39:48):
No, who's up the new Burg County?
Speaker 2 (39:53):
Who's up next? David is up next? David? Go ahead, David?
Speaker 9 (39:58):
Hey are you doing?
Speaker 5 (39:59):
Man?
Speaker 2 (40:01):
You just gotta have to talk Dad and I. We
can't go ahead. You just gotta go because we've can't
We've got feedback, so I can't cut, you know, go
back and forth.
Speaker 9 (40:09):
Oh, Okay, I just want to say another I just
want to say this about this rivalry. I think it is,
in my opinion, it is better than Duke Gorcun because
we played once a year and we get a four
year bragging rise. Well, Duke and Carolina played twice and
(40:30):
and it's not as fun. And if you split it,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (40:34):
All right, So I appreciate the call, David. I'm let me.
I've been part of both. There's very few people, I
would say, in the in the country who who've been
on ground zero of both of those riffers. Here's the difference,
all right. The quality of the Duke Carolina games is
usually better because it's late in the year. Both those
teams are usually really good. They're right down the street
(40:57):
from each other, and usually the opposing does not get in.
When you're at a Duke game, it's all Duke fans.
When you're at Carolina, it's all Carolina fans. With that said,
they don't hate each other as much as we do.
They just don't. They they go to the same If
you go to Duke and Carolina, y'all go to the
same bars. Everybody dates each other, you know each other,
(41:19):
it's not. Hey, this is different, Okay, this, I would
say their games are better, but drew. The hate of
Duke Louisville to me is much higher than it is
of Duke Carolina, having spent times in both US.
Speaker 5 (41:31):
Oh, definitely, and there's been national people say that too,
just not our opinion. The one thing I'll give them
the edge though on their rivalry is that it's a
little more balanced, Like Louisville is really not holding up
their end of this rivalry, so it takes a little
the fun out. So I don't ever want Louisville to win,
but at least in that one they should put up
a fight.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
This one's getting a little lopsided. True. They never beat
us in Lexington, and we beat them more than they
beat us in Louisville, so it's hard to call it
a rivalry.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
And the hate is greater here.
Speaker 4 (41:57):
You people here that have to live at every single
