Quarterback It is Kentucky Sports Radio, Let's go here Lives
We Get that eight Kentucky and Louisville tonight eight o'clock
games at eight, not seven.

Speaker 5 (01:10):
It's at eight not seven tonight in Louisville. We are
here at Beer Knows. In Southern Indiana died in or
Cat carry Out. There's a neighborhood Beer Knows today, including
one right there next to Young Center.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
We're at the one in New Albany in.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
Charlestown, Charleston crossing Charlestown Crossing tonight. By the way, if
you're in Lexington at kas Bar, we have those really
cool chs bar makers mark glasses with the wax on
the bottom if you watch the game, if you come
watch the game, I think they're starting to serve them
at five thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Maybe I think that's right.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
You might call the bar to make sure, but you
get an Al eight slushy. You can take the glass
home with you. I think we've got a couple hundred.
I think I don't know exactly what it is, but
it's something like that. But come watch the game there tonight.
Should be a great atmosphere and you get a collector's
glass that I made them.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I called and said, you got to save me because
I want to make sure I haven't.

Speaker 6 (02:02):
Zero Rydan's already got one of his house with all
his other chas bar glasses.

Speaker 7 (02:05):
We stole one for the promo we shot yesterday. I
decided to maybe just keep that one for myself.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
I did ask him to do a promo. I said,
make it kind of classy. And he's wearing that stupid
big Oh.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I saw it.

Speaker 8 (02:15):
I already saw it. I said, yeah, that's that's right,
all right.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
I can't get over the fact that's six and a
half points. I really can't. We're the number one kim
Pom team in America in case you did not know
that status early.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
But how are we a six and a half point
underdog in this game?

Speaker 6 (02:32):
I'm real thrown off because I made my bet yesterday.
I bet more than I normally do. In fact, I
took my account down to zero and then I just
had to make a deposit and bet more, which I
don't normally condone double downing. But six and a half
in a rivalry game that they've again, the four times
they've won in decades was by three points every time,
So I'm getting six.

Speaker 9 (02:51):
And a half.

Speaker 5 (02:52):
Actually, eighty five percent of the early money is on
Louisville and eighty four percent of the tickets are on Louisville.

Speaker 8 (02:59):
So a lot of people are gonna be losing money.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
I hope, I hope that's right. All right, A couple
of things here. First of all, last night, shout out
to our friends at e KU Eastern Kentucky University. They
opened up their new gym last night by playing Western
Kentucky University and the other big state rivalry Western one.
But Eastern opened up their new gym. I hear, it's
really nice. Hopefully we'll get to go there sometime. But

(03:23):
Western won the game. It was actually a one and
a half point spread, so they thought Eastern had a chance,
but Western ended up with it.

Speaker 7 (03:29):
And you know I both said with coroution breaks. So
glad they're playing that rivalry again. They're doing a home
and home so I love it.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
And a shout out to Western for doing it because
they don't have to. I mean, they play a road
game at Eastern. That's not something that normally they would do,
and they've reunited it to do it.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I think that's cool.

Speaker 7 (03:43):
Western got a big game from freshman Mellow Boon from
Frederick Duglays High School had fourteen points last night, so
shout out to him cobroncos.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Wow, look at you with the shout out let me.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
Let's give some credit to our guy, Reed Shepherd, who
after a tough start, he had a tough start to
this season, played the high profile National Game and kind
of got eaten up, but since then has kind of
turned it around. In his last five games, Drew, he's
averaging fourteen points a game.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
There's this stat I saw this season.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
He's shooting over forty from three, and he has over
three steals a game, and in the last twenty years,
the only other player to do that is a guy
named Steph Curry. So that's a pretty good that's pretty
good comparison for him. Reid after a tough, tough start,
starting to find his way.

Speaker 9 (04:31):
Yeah, I've heard that Curry guy. That's a good comparison.
The opening night, he did not look good.

Speaker 6 (04:35):
There was a big reaction to that, Twitter having his way,
making fun of his defense.

Speaker 9 (04:39):
But he's he's really improved.

Speaker 6 (04:40):
I think it was their game, was it the Bucks,
maybe Milwaukee regardless, that's when he really broke out. And
then a couple of days ago, I saw Kevin Durant
just put a picture of him on Instagram with like
no context. Looks like that got a little relationship going there.
So I'm enjoying that. Reid's gonna be a part of
a contender of the year.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
Yeah, just some shout out to Kentucky guys that are
in the league. First of all, tyre Smaxi is like
an MVP candidate. You know, if you want to see
a good video, there's a video that was floating around
social media of Tyrese Maxi in the Louisville game his year.
I'd forgotten he dominated Louisville in that game, and I
mean absolutely dominated. Was the reason we won in rupp Arena.

(05:19):
He has become literally, I mean, he's an MVP candidate
this year. He probably won't get it because his team stinks,
but Ryan, I mean Tyres Maxie. Who would have ever
imagined he would be so good?

Speaker 7 (05:31):
Yeah, we all were pretty proud this week. And you
saw the player of the week in the Western Conference
was Shae Gilders Alexander, and the player of the week
in the Eastern Conference was Tyres Maxie. I mean, that's
pretty awesome see two Kentucky guys do that.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Also, shout out Marii Williams back to back twenty five
point games for his G League Celtics team as well.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
The main I think the main red clause or something.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
But nevertheless, Night hopefully he will get a chance to
play this year because of the Celtics stink too, so
at some point they'll bring him up and he'll get
a chance to.

Speaker 8 (05:59):
Be in the Celtics. I'm like, why are we not
bringing him up now? He's ready to go. We need
some help, So I think he will get a lot
of minutes.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
It's at some point he'll get to do that.

Speaker 5 (06:06):
So big congrats to all those former former UK guys.
One football thing, Let's talk about the injuries.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Ryan.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
I mean, we had all this great news from the game,
but now some bad news.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Two of our best defensive players, Jordan love It and Sam.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Green, both out for the year, according to According to
Mark Stoops with injuries. They do think Alexafari will be
able to come back after the Tennessee Tech from his injury,
but those are two of probably our five or six
best defenders. We lose them both in the game against Florida.

Speaker 7 (06:38):
Sam Green, we've maybe been playing better than anybody on
the defensive unit. He was really shaping into having a
great year.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Hate to see it.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
And Jordan love It, a senior from right down the
road at North hard And High School, he was becoming
he's it's been the time he's been starting for like
the last four years. Do you hate to see that
experience go. They got a lot of young guys all
they feel good about stepping up.

Speaker 6 (06:56):
I feel really bad for love It. You know, senior
Day's coming up. He's been playing since he's a freshman.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
He's local.

Speaker 6 (07:02):
I don't know if he has any of the loopholes
to play more football like everyone's been using here lately.
But it stinks that it happened right before his last
game because he's been a big part of that defense
all four years he has.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
But I will know even though I hate to miss
them both, especially love it because he's a senior. Both
those guys went out kind of early in the Florida game.
Those dudes that played behind them continue to play then,
and they were all freshmen and sophomores. I think I
saw that at the end of the Florida game, or like,
you know, not the end end, but like early in
the second half, nine of our eleven defenders on the

(07:35):
field chain and were freshman or sophomore. I mean that's
you know, if you want to talk about building for
the future, that's a pretty good sign.

Speaker 8 (07:42):
Great to know you got some depth there on the
defensive side of the ball, and you know Brad White's
got this defense locked down. The last couple of weeks.
I mean you said it yesterday, you very well could
have had a shutout and back to back weeks in
the SEC. So they've they've been really good.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
There was a lot of pushback online yesterday with people
from our topics, especially Chas Board Drew on our topic
from yesterday about me kind of getting frustrated at Jerry
during the postgame show about the Auburn Florida people acting
like it wasn't a big win.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
I'm only tripling down on that tape, Drew. I am.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
There is still and I get it there's people who
want Mark Stoops replaced. I'm not saying that's an unreasonable opinion.
That might be my opinion at the end of the year.
We'll see what happens. But I still don't understand how
we have parts of our fans that think we're too
good to get excited about beating Auburn in Florida. I mean,
how can you Where do we get off acting like

(08:36):
that we're better than beating Auburn and Florida back to
back for the first time in his We've never beaten
those two teams in the same year in the history
of our school ever ever.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
I mean that, like, where do we get off acting
like that's not a big deal.

Speaker 6 (08:51):
Yeah, I know the people are being overly negative. I
think that just says a lot about them as people.
I don't know how you can't get happy about it
went over Florida, and it's not just that they want
and they destroyed them. You sure make the argument Florda's
not very good. I don't think they're very good. But
Kentucky almost shut them out and could have scored ten
more points and got in the forties if they wanted to.
In Auburn, that's a road game. Sure they have their

(09:12):
coaching issues. You're ten and a half point underdog at
Auburn and went out right, and you're an underdog to
Florida and beat them by thirty. I don't know how
you can smile about that.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
I would be interested to see. I'm sure it's happened,
but I don't think it's happened much. I would be
interested to see how many times we've won back to
back SEC games in our history and held the teams
we've played to a combined ten points. Man, how many
times you think that's happened in our history? And then
throwout games including Vandy and it's probably never happened or

(09:42):
it hadn't happened much. So I don't know how I'm
going to enjoy it, even if I do think at
the end of the year we should make a change.
You can't act like that's and one of them being
on the roads.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
You can't act like that's not impressed.

Speaker 7 (09:54):
I mean, that's what it gets my boxers in a wad.

Speaker 10 (09:56):
Man.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Please don't say.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
Yeah right here, I saw your face, just so you
know I felt the same way. I felt the exact
same way you you looked away. I had the same reaction.
But go ahead, please, you.

Speaker 7 (10:11):
Know, if you if you want to make any argument
like you said, for Stoops to be replaced at the
end of the year, okay, you could probably make a
good argument. But if you can't celebrate a win over Florida,
what kind of fan are you?

Speaker 8 (10:21):
I'm just not unhappy fans. Some fans are just miserable
and they want to be miserable, and that's just the
way it is. But I don't I don't like them.
They probably don't like you either.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
And they probably don't like that you said they were
hillbillies and there to go.

Speaker 7 (10:35):
I'm king of the hillbilly so you you know you're not.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
You're king of the flat lands. Who's up next?

Speaker 11 (10:42):
God?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Doing good? Up next? Doing good?

Speaker 12 (10:45):
Go ahead, sir, gentlemen, I'm doing good. I hope you're
doing well.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Uh.

Speaker 12 (10:50):
Just a quick public service announcement, Matt, be aware of
falling iguanas in Florida. They're apparently getting frozen in the trees,
falling out of them and hang people on top of it.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Ahead.

Speaker 12 (11:00):
Uh so watch out for that, anybody going down to Florida.

Speaker 11 (11:04):
Uh.

Speaker 12 (11:04):
Something else related to the state of Florida are riptides
which are really dangerous.

Speaker 13 (11:08):
With a big blue wave.

Speaker 12 (11:10):
Is going to go into the KFC Bumsen tonight and
we are going to wash away all of those Louisville
fans that think they actually have a chance to be
relevant in college basketball. This is going to be a
double digit win by Kentucky, well double digits up until
that the final minute or so, they might hit a
meetingless three that we don't even guard. The winner of

(11:31):
the player of the game is gonna be Mohammed Diabante.
Fifteen rebounds, nine points, five assists, four blocks, and three
uh in three steals.

Speaker 5 (11:43):
So really, really, I appreciate the call. I really like
your pick of Mohammed Diabonte. This is a game Drew
that I think he could play really well. But you know, Louisville,
we'll see how physically tough they are. I've seen some
of their fans questioning the toughness. Diabont's one guy want
that is tough.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
He You gotta remember.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
He just came through two years of wars with Alabama
Auburn where both teams were really good, and you may
have watched some of those games in the last couple
of years.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
They were the Alabama alburd games.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
The last few years were some of the best basketball
games that existed, and Diabante.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Played well in all of those games.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
If he's used to Alabama Auburn when Pearl was there
and both teams were top ten, I think he'll be
ready for this one as well.

Speaker 6 (12:24):
Yeah, I can't believe we haven't eventioned his name. Yet
he'll be a big piece tonight. And when we were
talking about Prior's comments and how Garrison will react, I
bet you wont Prior won't say that to Deabte's face either.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Yes, he's a big dude.

Speaker 6 (12:37):
Prior can say that walking out of the room of
a press conference, but I bet when diabate is next
to him, he won't be saying it because that's a
guy that will take it outside if it needs to
go out.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
See em and m is tough.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
But then you can actually walk up next to somebody
else and he might not be quite as chesty. I
think that could be the case today, Shannon. I'm looking
I think diabaatee he's got a chance to have a
big game.

Speaker 8 (12:58):
Yeah, I think Prior may reat saying that, And I
think Kentucky's gonna come out and probably try to play
very physical. I think it's gonna be a very physical game.
It's been chippy in years past, this rivalry always has been.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
I also think this will be for a lot of America,
at least the ones that don't have YouTube TV. This
will be for a lot of America the first college
basketball game they've watched this year. I mean, because the
other good games have been on when football was on,
and people we have the night kind of to ourselves tonight.
This is part of the reason I do think they're
playing this game right now. We're on ESPN, We're on

(13:31):
at eight o'clock. There's no football tonight of any importance.
There's an NBA game, but you know who cares. I
actually think this will be for a lot of the
country Ryan the first college basketball game they watch, and
it will be a great spot, Like Jay Billis is
gonna be at the game, like this is the sort
of centerpiece of the sports world tonight, which is to

(13:53):
be fair, it's the first time Kentucky's Louisville's had that
in a long time where we've been kind of the
main event of a.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Sports not Yeah.

Speaker 7 (14:01):
Usually that's about the time year we played that Champions
Classic on a Tuesday night, kind of introduce the world.
You know, it's time for college basketball next week. Yeah,
So now Kentucky kind of gets to slide into that
spot the tipping off the college basketball season. Go back
to the Deabatte. If we're going to war with him tonight,
I'm getting behind that guy. He's the guy pushing out
in front, say go go big Field to take care
of it for us, because I totally trust him as

(14:21):
a leader.

Speaker 5 (14:22):
If there's a fine Channon, that's the dude that if
they had a brawl tonight and you say who's the
most likely to walk out of there?

Speaker 2 (14:29):
I think you would.

Speaker 8 (14:30):
Take him and Garrison both like a tag team. You know,
they're like demolition.

Speaker 5 (14:34):
I think Garrison would wear himself out. Garrison, He'll be
hitting everybody and then it'll get tired. But I would
take Diabonate walk We'm out of a ring with all these.

Speaker 8 (14:42):
We're trying to figure out the pre show, Like if
we were gonna pick a guy off the bench to
be our enforcer, because you don't want your enforcer to
be a starter. Is there anybody that we have that's
off the bench?

Speaker 6 (14:52):
I would just bench Brandon Garrison and then.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
We don't Speaking of bench and Brandon Garrison, I don't.
I'm not saying we want to do that, But there
was a stat came out that I saw this morning.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
You could make a strong argument.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
That our best players so far, collectively our Jalen Lowe,
O Way, Aberdeen, Diabate and moreno they've played together five
possessions this season. You want to know what happened to
those five possessions five baskets thirteen points. Five baskets and
five possessions thirteen points with that lineup, be interesting to

(15:25):
see if that's a lineup we see as the year
goes on, drew a lot more.

Speaker 6 (15:29):
Let be the case Pope saw that and did not
play at those two games to not let Louisville in
on a little secret.

Speaker 9 (15:34):
He's got maybe Senna's pocket.

Speaker 5 (15:36):
If you need a vehicle, go to Don Franklin Auto
dot com. There are twenty locations all over the states.
You can figure out which vehicle you want. They'll send
it to the one nearest you. Great selection, great service,
great family atmosphere.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
It is Don Franklin Auto dot com.

Speaker 5 (15:51):
If you need a vehicle in Kentucky and you look
anywhere other than Don Franklin, you're making a mistake. Go
check them out at Don Franklin Auto dot Com. We'll
take a break of be right back here. Beer knows.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (16:03):
Waterback. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live, and Beer
knows a little bit of a cold morning, but still
a great day. Huge crowd out here. As always the
best folks come to beer knows even.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Though it's cold outside.

Speaker 5 (16:16):
Yesterday ride it was colder in Lexington, Kentucky yesterday than
in any major city in the lower forty eight States.
It's the only time that's been the case in Lexington
in the last eight years. Yesterday, Lexington was quote colder
than anyone at hair else in the United States.

Speaker 7 (16:34):
And between three o'clock and eight o'clock there were black
ice everywhere and there were like one hundred and twenty
accidents reported in the Lexington area last night.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Is that right?

Speaker 7 (16:42):
Yeah, one hundred and twenty acting because all the other
they shut the overpasses down because it was just black
ice everywhere.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Interesting, I did not hear that. Look at you, mister Stack,
can commy bill meck I won't.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
All right, So I've had a lot of people write
me Drew saying that there was a rumor online that
O Way O Take Oway was out tonight.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Oh no, and hang on, hang on, just everybody slow.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
Down, uh, and then and then and asking if I
thought that was correct. I think that rumor comes from
they put a team picture out yesterday during the practice
and Oway was in different gear than the rest of
the team. He was like, not in practice gear, and
I think people then extrapolated.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
That he wasn't wasn't playing, But he did the interview yesterday.
What people forget is they're focusing on that picture.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
He did an interview yesterday where he said, I can't
wait to see him during the game. So I I'm
there's no reason for me to assume he's not playing.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
Yeah, we got two players on the day before a
game and they sent out oh Way and Chandler and
always talking him. I can't wait to get on the court,
can't wait to this.

Speaker 9 (17:47):
We're gonna do that.

Speaker 6 (17:48):
I mean if he slipped getting on the bus from
the press conference because they drove to Louisville and that
black guys.

Speaker 8 (17:54):
Ryan was talking about guys.

Speaker 6 (17:56):
So I don't know, but I mean there is something fishy.
As we said, a lot of don't move three points
in a moment like that on the morning trend.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
Noah, there's a chance he might not play. He was
in a boot, but he wouldn't. He wouldn't change the
line like that, Ryan, I wouldn't think so.

Speaker 9 (18:11):
I wouldn't think so.

Speaker 7 (18:12):
And you know, we've talked about how there's these spies
in almost all the programs around the country, and they'll
like tip off people. So maybe somebody got tipped off
the Draft King spy Draft King spy.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Well, I mean that's I don't think that's happening either.
Be interesting though. I just think it's overconfidence.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
I mean, look, if you go through I will say this,
if you go through November. In college basketball, generally speaking,
home teams in home and homes have crazy good records
in November.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
It starts to change a little bit in December.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
But in November, like when people are playing their first
road game, it is very hard to win, Shannon, which
is why if we win, I think it will be
an extremely I mean, to me, this is our hardest game.
I mean, this is proble. This could be our first
or second hardest game of the year the year, honestly,
I mean it could be this one maybe at Florida,

(19:08):
but like, this could be our hardest game of the year.
So while I definitely want to win, I also think
we have to recognize this is probably the toughest game
we play all year because it's on their home.

Speaker 8 (19:19):
And of course it means more than other games, but
it is just one game at the end of the day,
after all, and you know you're not used to playing
on the road this early in the year. You're gonna
be going on the road in some really tough SEC environments.
So it's good to get this one.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
But I think they're better. Yeah, do we play at Alabama?

Speaker 3 (19:36):
No?

Speaker 2 (19:36):
Do we play at Alabama? I think we do actually.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
So maybe so that one will be tough too, But
like I just you know, we do have to understand,
like how hard this game is.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Sou's up first? God, Dan first? Dan, go ahead, Dan.

Speaker 11 (19:53):
Yes, man, I just want to give a dot out
or maybe you can for my daughter's amand them bringing
the servers that are working there Baronels for you guys.
They always look forward to the Kansaar radio show coming there,
and I just thought, maybe you can.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
Amanda and Brittany. Shout out to Amanda and Brittany, you
get hello there. They're great servers. Hopefully people will tip
them well along those lines. Before I'll let you go,
before I go to the next one. Someone I'm told
drove from Idaho Falls. Where is there someone here from
Idaho Falls? You flew from in Idaho? Everybody, get these

(20:28):
people around them a park. Yeah, Idaho falls to beer
Nose in New Albany, Indiana. Not a direct flight from
what I hear, But go ahead. Who's what else you got?

Speaker 11 (20:41):
Oh that's pretty much it. I'm calling for from Banner Elk,
North Carolina, and we got about eight inches of snow.
But that's all I got.

Speaker 13 (20:48):
Go Cats.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Thanks well, thank you for.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Keeping me up to date on your weather. Who's next?
Felix Up, Felix, Go ahead, Felix.

Speaker 10 (20:56):
Hey, guys, headed to the Young Center to not with
my boys. The Cats win money line. And I got
a question. I got a statement about Mark Stoops. I
want Mark Stoops to be our coach, you know, however,
but I want them.

Speaker 12 (21:08):
I want the old.

Speaker 10 (21:09):
Mark Stoops, the passionate Mark Stoops, the red face getting
after the refs, Mark Stoops. And I've got a question
for uh, for Ryan. You know, Ryan, how committed are
you to what happens for the rest of the football
season this year? You're the MVP of the show and
I feel like getting slammed to a table. Whoa, whoa,
whoa at Kentucky Ford.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Yeah, I mean we The thing is, you can't.

Speaker 8 (21:33):
You can't.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
And I appreciate the call you can't overuse Drew the
slamming through tables. If if you you know, if if
every day is Christmas, then no day is Christmas?

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Like you can't. You can't put him through a table
every single day. I think we did that, you know it.
Maybe if we beat Vandy, maybe we think about doing
it for a little. But I think right now we
got to be careful. We don't want to overuse that.

Speaker 9 (21:54):
I'm with you.

Speaker 6 (21:55):
Let's let's let's keep that club in the bag for
a while. Maybe only use it for Florida games. Since
it's two and against Florida. You know, they only come
here a couple of years now, or we don't know
what it will be moving forward long term. But anytime
Florida comes to Lexington, then we'll.

Speaker 9 (22:08):
Put Ryan through the table.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
You think anything right is the ch Also they come
back next year? Do you think are we do we
play him again next year? Florida's back and you think
he is the MVP of the show.

Speaker 8 (22:17):
Absolutely he is. But here's the thing. You know, we
got a big game tonight on the most I think,
don't you think we need a Ryan limit pep talk that?
I mean Kentucky Louis Ball.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
So that we we we we use those. That's yeah.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
The problem with those is I think we've lost like
four straight games with those, and I'm not willing to
risk that for U of Al, but that this game
is too important. We'll save that maybe for at Auburn
or at U.

Speaker 8 (22:43):
Sorry, you gotta keep your Colin Chandler's shirt on today.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
That's a nice shirt. You got the dunk. The Colin
Chandler dunk made into a T shirt.

Speaker 7 (22:49):
Tim Seberger, Drew's got one on underneath his shirt right
tunder wearing it.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
For good luck.

Speaker 9 (22:54):
I was cold.

Speaker 7 (22:55):
A guy who haven't even really talked about tonight. He
could be a huge factor coming off the bench tonight.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
Yeah, we'll tell him. Thank you for my version of that.

Speaker 13 (23:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
Sure, we appreciate it that we are here at Beer
knows Here in Southern Indiana, Cats and Cards eight o'clock
line is still six and a half. It just went
up to eighty eight percent of the money is now
money going on.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
I don't like it.

Speaker 5 (23:19):
I don't like to make it even more fun. When
we beat him, We'll take a break and be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio Quarterback.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
This segment is sponsored by corn bred Hemp.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
I'm gonna use this segment.

Speaker 5 (23:35):
This is a cornbread himp ab but I'm actually gonna
use it, and I'm sure they would want me to do.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
To give you just some quick information.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
As you know, they made an agreement last night to
reopen the government, which is good, but included in that
agreement Mitch McConnell slipped in at the last minute a
provision that basically bans full spectrum hemp products. It has
nothing to do with the government opening, but they threw
it in there. Ram I got to give a shout

(24:01):
out to Ram Paul, who we don't we probably want.
Ram Paul has one fan why but I want to
give him a shout out because he's fighting it now.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
He doesn't. It's tough because.

Speaker 5 (24:11):
He could stop it for a week, but then that
keeps the government shut down for a week, which which
isn't a good thing. But anyway, point being, the full
spectrum CBD HIT products which I've used to sleep, which
many of you use have used as well, they are
potentially gonna be banned thanks to Mitch McConnell in the
coming future.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
You still have time to call your representatives and senators.
I hope people will do that.

Speaker 5 (24:34):
I think it's a pretty shameful thing to do something
like that, especially in a bill that has nothing to
do with it, which is what they're doing. They're using
the desire to get the government reopened to throw that in,
which I don't I think is awful. But I do
want to give a shout out to Ram Paul for
fighting it. And since it may it banned. Cornbredhip dot
com you probably want to go pretty soon and get

(24:57):
your order. The promo code is KSR cornbread hip dot Com.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
A couple quick things. First of all, this is a
crazy story.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
So Delta State was supposed to play Kentucky State in
football this weekend. Okay, yeah, Kentucky State and Frankfort. Delta
State's in Mississippi. I don't understand how this could happen.
Kentucky State calls Delta State on Monday and says, hey,
we can't play. We accidentally double booked. We're supposed to

(25:28):
play somebody else Saturday. What they treated it like it
was like a haircut appointment.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
Yeah, I have two appointments.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
So Kentucky State says to Delta State, sorry, we can't play.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
We're playing this other school. My bad.

Speaker 5 (25:45):
The Delta State people are very angry. Understandably, They're like,
you're telling us on Monday. Nobody noticed this until Monday
before the game.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Is on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (25:55):
What do you make of the Oh no, we accidentally
scheduled two games on this day.

Speaker 6 (26:00):
You just say, how does this not get noticed? I mean, sure,
when you scheduled with contracts, maybe you overlooked it.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
But you start, by the way, is nine and one.
The team they're playing instead is two and eight. Do
you think that makes a difference.

Speaker 6 (26:12):
That's a big difference. But like when you're putting the
schedule on your website and the posters and the graphics,
how do you not notice you have two opponents on
one date.

Speaker 5 (26:20):
So just so happened Shannon that the team they could
the nine to one team, Hey we can't come to
and eight.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
We're gotcha, We're ready.

Speaker 8 (26:27):
I think they should be forced to do a split squad.
You gotta play both games at the same time. That's right,
you got enough players to make it happen.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
I mean, that's one of the crazier things I've ever heard.

Speaker 5 (26:36):
Can you imagine Kentucky being like, sorry, Tennessee Tech. We're
playing somebody else's weekend.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
We forgot.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
This is an awful embarrassing thing to happen to Kentucky State.
I mean they it stinks at Duck Poops like they
knew the mistake. They were going to see who had
the best team, then decide the last minute who he
wanted to play.

Speaker 8 (26:52):
That's a great point, Like if it were like maybe
the second game. Maybe you excuse me, but we're laid
into the schedule here. How did nobody notice?

Speaker 2 (26:58):
See it's suposed to be Kentucky's eight's last game.

Speaker 8 (27:01):
Why do you not know that?

Speaker 7 (27:02):
I'm like Shannon's idea of play a double header. Just
play a double header over.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
There, doubleheader in two different cities? Sure? Why not?

Speaker 6 (27:09):
How did the staff members in charge of scouting to
the teams and not be like, why are you watching
that team?

Speaker 9 (27:14):
I'm watching this team? Like what's I don't know? Awful?

Speaker 2 (27:17):
All right, we have some breaking news, Rick, all right.

Speaker 5 (27:24):
Mitch Bartenhart this morning spoke to the Champions Club, their
Champions Blue that's the new basically entity that's running UK athletics,
and he made some comments about the football team. I'm
not gonna read them all, but let me read the
most important ones. He talks about the team, and he says,
I think the win speaks to the leadership in the
locker room. In today's environments, it's hard sometimes to find

(27:47):
fine folks that the competitive fire burns and stays strong.
Then I'll go to the end because this is probably
the thing people care about the most. It's been a
decade plus with Stoops that he and I have been together.
We journeyed this thing before, and we've been together a
long time. He loves Kentucky and we love him, and
we just want to keep making progress and doing what

(28:09):
we're doing. We will sit down at the end of
the year like we always do, and sit there and say, hey,
where are we what are you thinking? What are we thinking?
And we'll get to this spot. We'll do it at
the end of the year, so that won't change. What
are your thoughts about that comment?

Speaker 6 (28:29):
Yeah, it sounds like he would be back. I mean,
cause if you were wanting to move on, you need
to be But he didn't say he'll be back.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
He didn't he'll say we'll sit down and talk about.

Speaker 6 (28:41):
Yeah, it just doesn't sound like he's already going through
the scenario that could be getting rid of him, and
you need to be prepared for that. Sounds like he's
just gonna wait and see his plans out and like,
all right, let's sit out and now I'll.

Speaker 9 (28:51):
Figure it out.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
What do you think?

Speaker 8 (28:52):
It sounds like he's gonna do what he does every year.
But you know, if there's one thing that I do
agree with him on is that Stoops does care about
this program, about this state. If you listen to his
comments after the Auburn game, you could hear the emotion
in his voice. But I don't think that that would
indicate that he's going to get rid of Stoops.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
So you both see that as a comment that makes
it more likely he's back slightly.

Speaker 7 (29:14):
All right, right, I agree with him. I feel like
I always thought all along Mitch Martin would not make
a move to that or mathematically eliminated from making a
Bowl game. Well, if won the last two games, are
still eligible for it. I just don't think Mitch is
the type of guy that's gonna give up on somebody
that he has devoted a lot of love and caring
money to. I just don't think he's gonna do it.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
It's interesting because my reaction is not the same as
your us. I mean, I read that and say he
has a chance right there to say we're gonna get
together at the end of the year and figure out
what we're gonna do to make sure we're set for
next year. Instead, he says, we're gonna see where we're at.
We're gonna see where you're at. That's not that's almost

(29:53):
suggesting they're not necessarily at the exact same place.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Right.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
Normally we would just say we're gonna figure out what
we need to do next. He's almost acknowledging, Ay, there's
us and there's him. So I'm not saying it makes
it more likely he's gone. But I read that as
saying uncertaint he's here.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
I mean, I it wasn't a voter.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
How would you phrase it like that unless you like
I mean, I'm not again, I'm not trying to say
he's gonna let him go. I don't even think that's
necessarily true. But when he says we'll sit down at
the end of the year, let me read the quote here. Well,
now I have to pay for the Herald, so.

Speaker 8 (30:34):
But he said, like we do every year.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
I do pay for the Herald. But it's I'm not.

Speaker 8 (30:37):
Long to him throwing in the line like we do
every year. Well, but it is. You know, I think
they had that conversation.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
But he acknowledges there's a separation between who we are
and who he is. I don't know if you do that.
Like he's not gonna say about Mark Pope. He's not
gonna say, hey, Mark Pope, at the end of the year,
we're gonna sit down and see where you are and
see where we are. He's not gonna say that about the.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (31:01):
I just wish Mitch already knew where we are a
little more than I think he does. It seems like
he's genuinely gonna wait till the season's over to put
everything on the table and figure it out. Where other
schools are back channeling and having things man working behind
the scenes, but you're a least putting out feelers of
who will be interested should be on your list.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
Just it's interesting, though. I have a different view of
what he said there than you all did. Who's up next?

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Mike is up next?

Speaker 13 (31:26):
Mike, go ahead, Mike, ay Man, I've just gone in
to say, uh, I think this game then it's gonna
come now because both teams run great offense.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
We know that.

Speaker 13 (31:38):
I think it's gonna come down to physicality deta into
in game adjustment because you know, they haven't shown anything
at the entertainment. They're gone. They're going to run a
lot more different things and sets than that than they
have been in these exhibition games. And I say, go,
get your money to that. Put it all Kentucky, go,
there's no way.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
I love the confidence. I agree with you that defense
will make the difference. Part of the reason Ryan, I
really like this team is, you know the old phrase
defense travels. I think defense does travel. If you show
up with your defense, you got a chance to win
every game, even if you don't hit shots. You know,
our defense has been awesome except for a little period
in the second half against Georgetown and now, other than that,

(32:22):
it's been awesome. And we didn't have our two point
guards in that game, so I do think that matters
to some extent. You had Colin Chandler trying to stop ball,
which is not necessarily his strength. I don't know, Ryan,
I think defense will make it to where we're gonna
be in every single game this year and gives us
a great chance today.

Speaker 7 (32:38):
Don't you feel like you're going against anybody with Aberdeen
out there and Lord, we're gonna otega. You got three
guys that can lock somebody down the perimeter.

Speaker 5 (32:45):
I don't know if Low can, but Aberdeen can, and
so can o Way, and so then Low can guard
the worst of the three perimeter players. But Aberdeen and
Oway I think man lock guys.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
And the defense has been my biggest table takeaway, even
though we've had fun with Low and Chandler's dunk and
scoring one hundred and seven points.

Speaker 9 (33:04):
And it's not just the on ball defense. They're team.

Speaker 6 (33:07):
They're helping, they're active, guys, aren't taking plays off, They're
guarding the whole possession, and that's pretty rare. In the
first week of the season usually kind of grow into that.
But uh, they've been kind of outside of the Georgia debacle,
they've been locked down defensively.

Speaker 5 (33:20):
They can put a defensive lineup out there that's a
really good defensive lineup. I mean they when they when
they're starters, Aberdeen, o Way, Diabate and Garrison are four
really good defenders. Now with Low and Chandler, you're gonna
lose a little bit of your defense, but those four
you got a hard time scoring on those guys.

Speaker 8 (33:40):
Yeah, and I know it was just Valpo, but you know,
locking those guys down like they did defensively, and then
even on the other side of the ball, I mean
just with Jalen low back offensively, they look like a
completely different team. Yeah, the.

Speaker 6 (33:52):
Fort Chandler learned how to play offense there at the
end of the season. He was when he played, he
was in as a defensive stopper. He actually shut down
Davis and that Arkansas which is.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
Why it surprised me that he was so bad in
that Georgetown game. Maybe it was just a one game thing,
but he was really bad defensively against Georgetown.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
We will take a break, come back.

Speaker 5 (34:08):
One more segment Kentucky Louisville tonight at the Young Center.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
This is KSR Quarterback.

Speaker 5 (34:14):
It is the final segment here Kentucky Sports Radio at
Beer Nos in southern Indiana. If you have an outdated
kitchen or bath and unfinished basement, they're not gonna fix
them selves.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
Go to a state renovation.

Speaker 5 (34:24):
They're booked for months, but you could still get in
for January or February. Make it easier where they can
make your kitchens, bathrooms, your whole house like new estate
Renos r e n os dot com, Staterenos dot com,
slash KSR. Make the next year the year you love
your home with estaterenos dot com. All right, so let's
talk a couple college basketball things. Besides US tonight, there

(34:47):
are three ranked matchups tonight. Texas Tech is at Illinois,
Creighton goes out to the West Coast to play Gonzaga.
But then, Ryan, you're gonna like this Duke. We don't
like Duke, but let's give him some credit. They're playing
a road game tonight at Army. They're playing at west Point.
Be the first time they've done that, first time Army

(35:07):
has hosted a top twenty five team in thirty five years.
They will host Duke tonight at Army. That game's on
the CBS Sports Network. They're gonna do a whole Veterans
Day thing. I bet it'll actually look really really cool.

Speaker 7 (35:20):
It's probably coach k you know, he went to west Point,
coach at west Point before he went to Duke. It
probably gonna maybe honor him in some capacity to make
a big deal out of something like that.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
That.

Speaker 7 (35:27):
It's kind of rare for Duke to go play at
West Point, a school like that.

Speaker 5 (35:31):
I mean they haven't and then to play on Veterans Day, Drew,
I think that's kind of a cool thing for them to.

Speaker 9 (35:36):
Do, very cool.

Speaker 6 (35:37):
And I always want our Army to win. It's actually
bad when they lose, but tonight especially, we need to
get this win on.

Speaker 5 (35:42):
Definitely want you definitely want the Army to win. Shannon,
what about the story of the guy who was arrested
or I think they has arrest warning. I'm not even
sure if they've arrested yet for terroristic threatening, for threatening
Jeff Brohm, the Louisville quarterback and.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
The coaching staff after the loss to Cal. Yeah, presumably
it was a you.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
I would assume a UFL fan angry about the game,
although they haven't said, but crazy Star.

Speaker 8 (36:07):
Didn't know they had LOVELL fans in Texas.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Eight counts of terroristic threatning.

Speaker 8 (36:11):
Yeah, I mean just for losing a game to Cal.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
I mean it's a bad loss. Yeah, I don't know
if it's that battle.

Speaker 8 (36:18):
I mean, yeah, we just have Garrett over here calling
out players because they suck.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
It doesn't make Garrett Gus bad.

Speaker 8 (36:23):
I'm terrorizing people like like this, guy is so yeah,
it's it's a really bad situation, really.

Speaker 5 (36:29):
Really bad situation, one of the more crazy ones I've seen.
Tomorrow night, by the way, I'm hosting trivia. You can
now call the bar and keep your spot. I'm working
on questions in between the game and in between the
game and the postgame show tonight.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
But get your spot. Are you going to finally bring
a team you've been.

Speaker 7 (36:47):
Yeah, we're efforting the Dream Team.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
There's no efforting You're coming tomorrow.

Speaker 7 (36:51):
I am working on it, sir, as we speak.

Speaker 8 (36:54):
I want to be there. I gotta have a team, though,
Do you really need a team?

Speaker 2 (36:57):
If you if you can't find your regular team, there
will be people that will play. I don't want to
play with Paul's one. Now you got one. Here's Paul.
So there's more coming. Who's up next? Next? Adam? Go ahead, Adam?

Speaker 13 (37:12):
What's up? Guys?

Speaker 14 (37:13):
I don't know if you know this, but since Billy
Lesbie was hired, Loville was beat in Kentucky four times
in basketball and all by Every single game they won
was about three points.

Speaker 13 (37:26):
So Hammer, you got to turn.

Speaker 5 (37:28):
On the first hour of the show. And if you
turn on the first hour of the show. You would
have heard that exact stat from Drew Franklin, although he
might disagree with you. Drew, you would say how many
times have they won one?

Speaker 6 (37:39):
I don't know why you include the Gillespie years. If
you just start after him, we can throw those out.
But there's been two since cal was hired. That's a
better stat.

Speaker 14 (37:49):
I'm saying hammer that UK plus six.

Speaker 5 (37:53):
Now, I appreciate the Caaul. I do like that. I
do like that a lot is excuse me, as the
bet to make tonight.

Speaker 6 (37:59):
Yeah, I mean, I'm not normally into the trends that
go back that far. But if they're only four wins
in twenty something years is about three points. You know,
it says a lot about a six and a half
point spread tonight when we have a team we really
like a Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (38:11):
So let's talk about what we think the environment will
be this evening Louisville. Probably, you know, we have not
played them in a situation like this ever Tuesday night.
They've had a really hard time getting midweek crowds. I
do think tonight will be wild. Do we think our
guys will be able to handle what they see tonight?
Just from a crowd standpoint.

Speaker 8 (38:31):
I think they will. You know, we got some guys
that have played in the young center with Jalen Lowe
always been there, well, I guess always hasn't.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
But Jalen Low's been there. Jaleenh's been there and played well.

Speaker 5 (38:42):
I think he lost to Louisville twice, but he had
big games both times, and he's play against a lot
of these guys.

Speaker 8 (38:47):
He's gonna Syberdeen Diabate. We've got guys who have played
in a really good road environment, so I don't think
it'll be anything that these guys haven't seen before.

Speaker 7 (38:54):
I almost think we'll step up and thrive in this
situation like that because of kind of the dogs we've
got on the team this year.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
The key for me the game I won't I promise you,
I won't say it all year, but I'll say it
tonight is Jayalen Lowe because he's played these guys. He's
the only dude out there that has has played these guys.
I mean we I guess O way did last year,
but I mean he played them and both those games were.
The one at Pitt was back and forth, back and forth.
It was a battle. I'm looking forward to see I

(39:21):
think he'll have a great game.

Speaker 6 (39:23):
Yeah, I know that's the road atmosphere, first one of
the year. All that, I really think Kentucky fans they're
gonna make a little noise in there to get them
some comfortable, make them comfortable. We're gonna hear go big
blue at certain points through the TV throughout the night.
Even though Louisville will obviously have the dominant part of
the crowd, I think Kentucky.

Speaker 9 (39:40):
Fans will be in there to help out a little bit.

Speaker 5 (39:41):
Our prediction is what twenty percent of the crowd Kentucky fans.

Speaker 8 (39:46):
I think that's probably about right.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Yeah, we're going higher.

Speaker 9 (39:49):
Like you said, they don't go to games anyway.

Speaker 7 (39:52):
That upper Bowl may be a lot of blue up there.

Speaker 5 (39:54):
I will say this, I've always impressed every year in
the camera shot there will be Kentucky fans who have
bought the season tickets from Louisville fans and are sitting
there in the camera shot. That always is impressive to me.
Now Kentucky is a six and a half point underdog
at Louisville. Kentucky's number nine in the country, Louisville's number twelve.

(40:15):
This has only happened a handful of times in the
last twenty five years where both teams have been ranked
in the top fifteen. We get it this year, Shannon.
I'll let you start Kats and Louisville. Give me a
score in an mvpden.

Speaker 8 (40:28):
I'll take Kentucky winning tonight seventy nine seventy four. And
for the sake of my parlay, I'm gonna say o
Tega Away is the MVP today.

Speaker 7 (40:36):
Otago All right, Brian Limit, I'll go Kentucky eighty seven
to eighty And my MVP's a guy we haven't even mentioned.
He knows more about this rivalry than anybody else. His
daddy played football against Louisville. He's spun da raggons helming
around Jasper Johnson grew up living in dying this this rivalry.
He also was teammates with Michel Brown and Team USA.

Speaker 2 (40:56):
Least that's a good point.

Speaker 7 (40:57):
So I think he comes ready to play Jasper off
the pitch with a big game tonight.

Speaker 5 (41:00):
Got Jasper, yep, I think you're gonna end up picking
Jasper every game?

Speaker 2 (41:04):
Man, what about you?

Speaker 6 (41:05):
I really need a win tonight. It is my wedding anniversary.
Happy anniversary, Happy anniversary too. But I don't have a gift,
so I'm presenting the Kentucky win as our anniversary game.
You don't have a gift no that lately, so I
really need a win for that to come through. I'll say,
Kentucky does it eighty four eighty and my MVP, I'll
say Trent Noah plays and hits four threes.

Speaker 5 (41:27):
By the way, does heybody have a beard nose sweatshirt
that he could take home with it?

Speaker 2 (41:31):
It's the gift is supposed to be leather.

Speaker 9 (41:33):
I think this year if I got leather.

Speaker 8 (41:35):
C yeah, I'll tell you leather pants. You can borrow
his pants.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
It's exactly right. Hey, Thank you to the folks here
at Beer Nos.

Speaker 5 (41:45):
First of all, big round of applause to you guys
for coming out.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
The Kentucky Louisville game.

Speaker 5 (41:51):
Over the years, It's always hard for me to watch
because I get so nervous. But one of the things
I've enjoyed is beating him right here. There's nothing better
than beating a team on their home court tonight. I
think both these teams are very similar. By the end
of the year, I think we're going to be better
than them. But right now we are on their home floor.
So I think this game's a toss up. But nevertheless,

(42:14):
I think we get the ball ten seconds left, Todd.
At seventy nine, Jalen Low takes his mand off the dribble,
hits a little layup at the buzzer as it goes in.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
Cats win eighty one seventy nine.

Speaker 5 (42:26):
Jalen Low is my MVP and Kentucky continues the domination
over the cards.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
Thank you all very much.

Speaker 5 (42:33):
We will be back at the pregame show at five
point thirty. Come watch at the bar and I get
your bakers Mark glass. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
