We've got today some guests here at the Chaos Bar
and Grill. It's the South Laurel What KSR.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Club KSR Club from South Laurel High School.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
First of all, let me say you all. You all
pulled off quite a coup. I mean, really, create a
KSR club. You get to come up here during school,
sit at a bar, h from South Laurel, which is
at least an hour drive up here.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
I am.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I'm a huge fan of these kids just for their
ability to to if nothing else and listen to the show,
but also get out of school. Drew, I think it's
actually quite impressive.
Speaker 6 (01:38):
I was pretty good at getting out of school myself,
and I got admit creating a club to go to
another town to sit.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
At a bar.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Now it popped in my brain. We didn't have it.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
I tried to create a Joby and Denny club and nobody.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Nobody joined it with me. So I like that.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
I kind I've tried. When I was in school, we
had like the chess club and some boring club.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
We have a chess club in Otwell, Indiana, Hike Central Heighs.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
I bet they were good.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
We were outstanding. Yeah, nothing cool like a ks R club.
How cool is the classic? So thank you guys very
much for coming. I'm actually, I guess I'm in the
education business today. I'm speaking at UK this afternoon. You know, Drew,
I was scheduled to speak at UK last week.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
I had to cancel because I was up doing something
at ESPN, and the professor asked me to come this week.
And then all of a sudden, I got online and
it had been posted like it was like some kind
of crazy news.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Story that I had canceled at ESPN.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Somebody posted breaking news Matt Jones cancels his UK appearance,
and then there were all these people chiming.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
In and I was like, what I had to go
to ESPN. I'm doing it next week.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
So I'm going today to speak to some sort of
journalism class.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
I'm gonna teach them all about the ins and outs
of being a respected journalism in the community.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Well here's how I respected. I am. I hate that
I'm doing this today, you're here.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
I forgot my book of topics, which is an unfortunate thing.
Normally I have this long book of topics, as you know,
I've had one for fourteen years. Today I left it
in the wrong place, So we're going We're going completely
raw today. When it comes to topics, and it's an
ask anything. Thursday, you can call in or text in
and ask any question.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
I call your tablet your bible because you carried around religiously,
and you keep them when the year's over, don't you
keep them somewhere?
Speaker 3 (03:19):
I have everyone I've done since two thousand. I have
them going back to my law practice. I have everything
from two since about two thousand and five. They become
harder and harder to find because people don't keep physical
calendars anymore. They keep it on their phone. But I
look at my phone already too much, so I like
having the book.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Do you ever go back to your old books and you're.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Up to no?
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Well, sometimes I need to know, like when did I
do this right? So sometimes I go back and try
to see when when something happened. I just finished my
taxes a few weeks ago, and it was that I
hate I tell you one day a year, and I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
I know y'all don't want me to get political on
this show, but I.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Become I'm a Democrat three hundred and sixty four days
a year I'm a Republican one day a year and
it's tax day, and especially today, I have to go
back and find all that stuff, So I don't like that.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Well, in Kentucky, you know, they gave us a reprieve.
We didn't have to turn them in until what November
the third this year because of the floods and everything.
They kind of give us a little little I.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Think it was November third. Guess what day I turned
it in? November third. I tell you I'm a last.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Minute person on all of that. Drew.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
I know that because sometimes your accountant calls me asking
where you are you started your taxes.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
I'm like, I don't know, man.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Yeah, it's twenty two eighty seven.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
We have a lot of stuff to get to.
Speaker 7 (04:33):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Last night, I was as exhausted as I could be
when we got done with this trivia. It was nice
to have trivia. There were Ryan's team came like fourth
from last, which.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
We were tenth. We were right in the middle.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Yes, give us a little respect. You didn't do great
at all the questions, but.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
A couple of your questions killed us.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Well, let me we do this sometimes, Shannon, uh Ryan
heard them. So Shannon, you and Drew, do you would
you like to answer?
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Uh, We're always terrible at this because we have no
time to think. But if you want to lay them
on us.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
I'm gonna lay them on here.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Okay, so here Shannon might know the female rock and
roll band.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
So that that's that's a good one, all right. What
are the.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Highest selling female musical groups of all time? And they
have to be all women? Okay, so they can't there
can't be any men in the group. And some of
them are more recent, some of them are older. What
are the highest selling female all female groups? And it
doesn't have to be rock, just groups.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yeah, I'm gonna go number one. Spice Girls.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Spice Girls are number one of all times? Shannon is
is correct? Drew?
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Do you have it?
Speaker 7 (05:37):
Well?
Speaker 6 (05:37):
I was gonna say Spice Girls. Let me think quickly
on the fly. Uh, Destiny's Child.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Just Destiny's Child is number three all time?
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Is TLC?
Speaker 3 (05:47):
TLC is number four all time? You are doing very well, so.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Fun I go old school. I'm gonna say the Supremes.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Supremes are number two all time? Is killing it? But
top four? All right? Can you get that?
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Those you've gotten kind of in my opinion, the easier ones.
Now they start to get a little bit harder. But
you have heard of all.
Speaker 6 (06:06):
Of these, shann Do you have any more? I could
guess a couple of go for it?
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Go for it? Are the Dixie Chicks in there?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
The Dixie Chicks? Okay, so they did not do country.
I think they would have been in there, but they
didn't do country. So but to me, they would have
been in there.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
But what's it?
Speaker 5 (06:21):
All?
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Right? Uh? Shannon, you got anymore?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
I got kind of hit a wall now that anymore.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
That's about all we got.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
So this is the.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Rest of the top the pussy Cat Dolls.
Speaker 8 (06:32):
Pussy Cat Dolls are fish getting all of the top five?
Speaker 6 (06:37):
What was the there was a girl band? Like in
the boy band there all girls? I think did he
created them?
Speaker 3 (06:43):
I don't think that's on here. Okay, let's not talk
about Didy we have Let's not do that. Okay, this
is with their young impressionable people. Sixth place, the Pointer sisters.
That's a long time they'd be right about them. Seventh
place in Vogue. Okay, eighth place Wilson Phillips. Shannon, You're
(07:05):
the only one I thought might get that one.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
I'm surprised.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
They're on the ninth place, Salt and Peppa who just
went in, and then tenth place.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
I think this is a more recent group, is it?
Fifth Harmony? Is that something? Is that? Is that? So
there you go? Those those were your top ten. But
I'm in pressed. Shannon got the all five of the
top five.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
We didn't get any of the older groups at all.
Didn't even couldn't even discuss some of those that were
in the.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
I'm impressed Shannon knew the Supreme. Yeah, that's that's good.
They were right now. Uh, the movie came out this
summer with Brad Pitt. It was the number one movie.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Uh, it was the most money a Brad Pitt movie
has ever made.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
In his lifetime. It was f one. Now after f one?
Speaker 3 (07:49):
What are the eight movies starring Brad Pitt that have
made the most money? And by starring he could have
a co star, but that we're Brad Pitt was involved.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
In The Boy Drew.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
I'm gonna lean on you for this one.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Come on, these are I would think, I would venture
to say, you all have heard of all of these,
and you have probably seen most of them.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
I can't even think of a Brad Pitt movie right now?
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Not even you ever heard of Brad Pitt. He's an
actor I have.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
He's really handsome, distracted brain.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
So he was in like fight club, right, fight club,
there we go. Fight Club is not one of them.
But yes, he was with the Vampire.
Speaker 5 (08:27):
Yes, that was a tough one.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
That's amazing.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Not one person last night got interviewed with not one
group here.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
It's hard on live radio. I can't even think of that's.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
But I'm actually that's really impressive. You're the only one
that got that one.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
This one's probably not it. What's the war movie? He
was just in a few years ago.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
I don't know. He was in a tank. It was awesome.
He was in a tank.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
I think you're thinking of Fury, But anyway, he was
the Bastards and Glorias. Bastards is one of them. That's
exactly right. Moneyball, moneyball is not one of them. You
guys are not getting the big ones. Anybody.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Let me ask the South Laurel people. Yes, what do
you got ocean? Well done?
Speaker 3 (09:10):
My friend, there you go see South Laurel's got anyone
else from South Laurel.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
What do you got? Seven? Is an answer?
Speaker 5 (09:18):
Well done?
Speaker 4 (09:19):
You all those are two of my top ten movies,
and I thought of neither of them.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Have you know you've never seen seven Shannon. Seven is
one of the great movies of all times. Never send
the box, come on, said anyone else? Troy, well done,
South Laurel Troy, I got, by the way, no one
has gotten number one. Anybody got number one?
Speaker 4 (09:43):
All right? The answer here I'm gonna read number one.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Is World War Z.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
That's the one Dream was trying to say.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
I think he was trying to say Fury, which was
which was?
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Then Troy which somebody said, mister and missus Smith, Ocean's eleven,
and then it's Oceans twelve and Oceans thirteen. But I'm
not counting those. Once upon a time in Hollywood seven
inglorious bastards in an interview with a vampire.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
So there you go. Those.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
So those are the kind of questions we had at trivia.
And then now we'll do one morning. Then I'll stop.
Let's do the UK basketball question. Yeah, we lost to
Louisville in a non conference game regular season and tournament.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Before Louisville, who were the.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Last eight teams Kentucky had lost to in a non
conference game, going backwards, Okay, starting starting backwards.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
So Louisville, Now what were the eight right before that? Clemson?
Clemson is one of them? There you go. Ohio State
is two and we're not doing we are doing. Oakland
is three. Now we have five more. Saint Peter's was before.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
I'm sorry, I'm going too far back there. What was
the other non conference last year? Clemson? Ohio State?
Speaker 3 (10:55):
One of these teams we lost to twice? Tennessee is
in conference. Shannon, you're gonna help or Drew? Here is
Drew gonna have to do it on out?
Speaker 4 (11:03):
All right? Let's ask South Laurel was cows last year?
Was that Wilmington? You and c Wilmington? Well done? That's
a hard one.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
Yes, that's a hard one.
Speaker 6 (11:13):
What was the Champion's Classic that year? I'm sure we
lost it?
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Anybody, anybody got a guess?
Speaker 5 (11:16):
Here?
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Kansas we lost to twice? Well done, but that doesn't
so we have I got three more?
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Anybody? Ohio State again? Yes, who'd you say?
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Pikeville? We didn't play Pikeville. You mean Pikeville like Pikeville College.
That's okay, all right, that's all right.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
What do you got? What Michigan State is not correct.
Speaker 8 (11:44):
The other answers Georgetown Georgetown was an exhibition, Gonzaga, Kansas
what somebody said, then in the tournament Kansas State, and
then U C.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
L A. So those were the those were the answers.
I'm in prest with South Laurel though he got some
band they could have helped your team.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
Yeah, I've at press Drew pulled out UNC Wilmington. That's
what I had completely.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
UNC Wilmington is one that you can easily forget. But
we were on our road trip. Remember how we were
on that one when that happened. Where were we watched
that game? We were like in uh, I want to say,
like Lofayette, Indiana or something. It was somewhere in Indiana
and we were we were we were upset about it.
Speaker 6 (12:20):
Actually, we watched until the final minutes at your house
in Louisville. Then drove a little bit.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Yeah, exactly right.
Speaker 6 (12:27):
We were saying, we'll leave when they get up twenty
and then they just never got up, so we're like, well,
we can't leave. Then they lost the game, So that
was fun.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
They're doing karaoke here tonight, by the way, the first
time they've ever done we've ever done karaoke here? What's
your go to karaoke song?
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Wagon? Will Darius Rucker? My goodness, I sing it like
it's never been sung before.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yeah, well you you can come here tonight. I think
that starts at seven o'clock. They're doing karaoke.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
All right. I have a question for you.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
We give me going going into now that we've lost
to Louisville, have your expectations the season changed or is
it just one game? So think about where you were
before the game and where you are now. Has anything
changed in your expectations?
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Right?
Speaker 5 (13:12):
Maybe just a little. I still have a really high expectation,
but maybe just a little start to see some things
I don't really like that I wasn't concerned about. Like
we talked about Otega yesterday.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Guys.
Speaker 5 (13:21):
You know the inability to shoot the basketball by some
of these guys. So maybe you answer your question so
slightly down, slightly down?
Speaker 4 (13:29):
Okay, what about you?
Speaker 7 (13:30):
No?
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Not down?
Speaker 6 (13:31):
Would I would say I still think their potential is
what it always has been for me. They might could
be able to be worse. Maybe their floors a little
lower than I expected. Got a few concerns, but I
mean that was Louisville's a top ten team that was
a true road environment. On November eleventh, uh, someone posted,
like the first true road games every year of like
the last ten years, and most of them have been long.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
We've lost all of them.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
Yeah, even it sucks being Louisville, and you know, I've
already moved on from that, had twenty four hours having
to put up with them on Twitter. Other than that, though,
it doesn't change my long term out look.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
It hasn't changed mine. It hasn't changed mine.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
I thought this team was an Elite eight Final four
team that if things got fortunate, you could win a
title with. I still think that's true. I mean, I
think Louisville's Elite eight Final four team. We played them
on their home court. It was a wild environment. They
hit shots early. So there are a couple things though,
Like Ryan said that, I'm a little worried about I'm
(14:26):
especially I've always been worried about the shooting. I'm a
little worried about now what they're gonna do with all
these big guys. I wish we could make a trade,
I really do. I wish we could trade one of
these bigs for a shooter, because we got too many
big guys, and we're getting another one, you know, we
got too many.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
We'll see how it plays out, but this could be
a year where we're questioning how Pope built everything. There
might be a roster that we have too many bigs
and not enough shooters. Now, if Noah locks in and
shoots lights out and Chandler shoots half as good as
his shooting right now, maybe the shooting won't be an issue.
But just trying to predict what's ahead, it looks like
too many big.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Well, these bigs, one of these bigs is not gonna
play and they're probably not gonna be happy. And and
I think it's either gonna be I think it's gonna
be Brandon Garrison. I think you're gonna see his minutes
go down, and then you gotta decide, like.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
What do you do at that point?
Speaker 5 (15:14):
Yeah, because you know Malachai, when he's on the floor.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
He he can he can shoot, and he can shoot.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Which is why I think he's gonna end up getting
more minutes and you're gonna end up seeing the rest
play a little bit less. A five nine eight twenty
two eighty seven text machine is seven seven two seven
seven four five two five for it's ask anything Thursday.
I'm gonna need your help without my book. I gotta
have topics or else you're gonna get more trivia questions.
I think, because uh, you know, I left it at home.
(15:41):
We'll take a break and be right back. This is
Kentucky Sports Radio working back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio
here live at KOs Bar and Grill with the South
Laurel KSR Club and a couple other folks. Lunch will open.
You should come out and see us. All right, Where
where's where in the crowd is Aaron? All right, Aaron,
I'm gonna read you a text machine a text message
(16:02):
from the text machine. Hello, Matt, Aaron is in the
crowd from South Laurel. He's dating my daughter Maddie, so
keep an eye on him for it. WHOA, all right,
I'm keeping an eye on you, Aaron. It's Maddie here. Okay, good,
we need to separate you too. All right, I'll be watching.
I'll be watching for.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
Get your mother in law keeping DIBs on him in
like this might be.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
A father in law.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
I don't know if I'm nine two eight twenty two
eighty seven. One person says, Matt, I had Kentucky at
forty and oh now I have him at thirty nine
and one.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Not a lot has changed. I like that confidence.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
I mean, I do think there's a strong argument that
will be our hardest game of the year.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
That and that Florida.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
If you're just talking about trying to win, I mean,
think about it. Who were gonna play that's better than
them on their home floor? Probably maybe nobody. I mean
it's gonna be them, Maybe Florida.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
That's it. One Alabama. We do play Alabama on.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
The road too, So I wonder if that had just
been say that was the Clemson game last year, if
people would be as upset. I think it's just because
if we're not used to losing to louis.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
Because it was Louisville.
Speaker 6 (17:06):
I don't think I think people are forming opinions about
the team because it was Louisville. And if it had
been just whatever, name an acc opponent, another one, it
wouldn't have been as bad as follow.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
We ended the show yesterday with people with somebody saying
that the honeymoon period for Mark is over. We didn't
really get a long chance to talk about that. You've
heard really for the first time starting yesterday, questions about
the way he coaches, the way he builds rosters, by
the way, that's gonna happen. That was gonna happen at
some point. Now it's happened. Do you think that changes
(17:36):
anything the fact that now, because really nobody did that
last year, really at all.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
I mean I've heard it a couple times. A guy
told me yesterday, Man, he lost to Caliperi. Now he's
lost to Louisville, you know. But for me personally, I'm
still in the honeymoon phase. I mean, like we've been
saying all morning, it was just a game in early November,
a non conference game.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
You drop it.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
It shouldn't affect the way you play the rest of
the year.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
I'm gonna be interested to see after Michigan State because
in my opinion, with Michigan State Drew, we should be
better than them. They're a style that is more similar
to Purdue, who we beat, and produce probably better than
Michigan State. So that's a game I want to see
us go win. In Madison Square Garden. You've talked over
the years how we've struggled with the Champions Classic and
(18:21):
so many times, and it's time for us to win
one of those games, and as we said, Louisville maybe
the hardest non conference game. You could make a case
Michigan State should be the easiest non conference game.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
So I think we got to win it.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
And after taking that loss, hopefully it's been a rough
couple days of practice with more to come. In fact,
I hope they're still running. So I think Pope getting
some teaching moment should even have them more locked in
for Michigan State. Not that they'd be locked in for
that game, but taking a loss like that one at
Louisville should help them out moving forward.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Did you see the video Mario posted of the kid
in the UFL student section getting flipped off and getting
yelled at by Louisville fans.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
That's gone very viral online.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Do you think do you think the Louisville fans were
jerks to the kid wearing the Kentucky shirt in the
Louisville student section.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
I think they were jerks, But if it was reversed,
it was a Louisville fan sitting in the eruption zone.
Our students may have done the same thing. I come
in that dude, that dude, I was brave to go
on enemy turned I for one, I understand he didn't
have a ticket to sit there. He just went down
there and warmed his way in and found it.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
But he wasn't he wasn't being allowed. He was just
sitting there.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
But I mean they were like giving him the bird
in his face, like, and Mario was standing right there
trying to talk to him, and people were booing him.
And then Jalen Lowe gets involved on the way to
the locker room and is yelling a little bit.
Speaker 6 (19:40):
I'm gonna disagree with the right. I can't see eruption.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Zone doing that. I really don't think they would either.
Louisville fans are meaner, Yeah, no they are. I can't
see that. I don't think the eruption Zone would do that.
Speaker 6 (19:51):
Played heckle, but it wouldn't be the bleeps, you know,
and all that we were seeing on that video.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
I mean, I walked by the Louisville student section before
the game, and it's funny how things have changed. Like
there was a time that that would have been like
I wouldn't have walked by it. I would have felt unsafe,
but now I was fine. But then a few of
them recognized me and then they started a chant and
the middle finger, and then they all did it, so
they were in a middle finger frame of mind drew
(20:19):
the whole time. So I'm not surprised that kid got
it because I got it right before that too, So
I can.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
See it and in the celebration, good for them, they
won have their moment, but I can't help but notice it.
They are acting like they won the national championship. Now
we brag about Louisville two, but like, did Mark Pope
run into the crowd last year and all rank his finger? No,
he went and shook hands with Pat Kelsey, pointed to
the UK fans and walked to the back. They are
celebrating it like we keep getting accused it's our super Bowl.
(20:48):
They're celebrating it like that's the greatest thing that they've
done in twenty years.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
Yeah, I'll take up for I'm okay with they have
one a long time. I mean, you know, it's a
new coach. I get it. I'm okay with their celebrating
about it. I mean, I'm okay with it.
Speaker 6 (21:02):
I'm just reminding them they're acting like that when we
got pretty used to beating them.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
Yeah, we'll see at the end of the year. I
think they're gonna have a big year.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
They're gonna go into the tournament probably a one or
two see because they just don't they have a hard
non conference, but they don't really play in conference. There's
only a couple of good teams in the ACC. So
I think they're gonna have a really good record when
you get to the tournament.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Who's up first, ship, Let's go to Isaiah.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Isaiah, go ahead, Isaiah.
Speaker 9 (21:27):
Hey, Matt, we were talking roster lineups yesterday. I want
to get your thoughts on Low Aberdeen and always starting
at those guard spots assuming oh ways, it's back to
driving the ball and not worry about shooting too much.
I think, like kind of you have Low and Aberdeen
can shoot pretty well, and you could go back to
(21:48):
slashing and then Barno at at the big spot and uh.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Just I think the best line I mean, I think
our best lineup is this would be and I appreciate
the call. I would start this lineup. If you just
want to put your best lineup on the floor, I
would want to do Low Aberdeen, oh way, but if
only plays like he did against Louisville, take him out
and put Chandler in. I can't believe I'm saying that,
but that's what I would say. Moreno, at the four,
(22:16):
diabat at the five, that's what I'd like to see
out there. I think that's right now. Are five if
you're just playing our five guys that are playing the best.
Rynd to me, those are the five that are playing
the best right now.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
I like Chandler coming off the bench because he can
do any of those three spots. We can play the one,
the two, or the three. Whatever you need. Somebody gets
a foul, trouble, or somebody's not playing well, he can
plug him in anywhere.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
Do you like that as the five?
Speaker 6 (22:39):
Chandler's gotta be my five step? You already put Aberdeen
and Low together?
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Which one you're taking out?
Speaker 6 (22:46):
I'd probably roll with Aberdeen a few more games and
then have Low the six man. Low might take it
over though soon.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
I can do that.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
I actually think you need them both out there though,
because there are they start the plays for us.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
We'll take a break. Very backs KSR. TJ. Smith, personal
injury attorney called TJ.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
He'll make him pay now.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage here's
Matt Jones work.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
I'm back.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio eight five nine two eight
oh twenty two eighty seven. The text machine is seven
seven two seven seven four five two five four. One
person writes, Matt, I agree with your honeymoon comment because
I had my first pope ism that made me mad.
He says way too many times in the postgame press
conference that it took him too long to make a change.
Just make the change. Well, it did take him too
(23:34):
long to make a change. But once he's done that, Drew,
I think he's I mean, what's he gonna do. He
can't go back in time, so I'm I'm glad he
recognized that it did take him too long. They they
stuck with two big specifically Diabata and Garrison in together.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
They did it too long, didn't work.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Then when he made the change, I mean Diabati didn't
play the last seven or eight minutes and we did
pretty well.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
So oh way set out. That's when we made a run.
You know, we had a we had a line of up.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Somebody showed yesterday we had a lineup that was plus
ten and it was low Aberdeen Chandler Williams Moreno, that
was a plus ten lineup in the gate.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
Definitely at the end of the game. That was the
lineup that was playing the best. So they were just
ran with those guys.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Well they brought oh Way back in though, yeah, I
mean it was they brought oh way back in at
the very end.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
But the lineup that was plus ten was that was
that ten.
Speaker 6 (24:24):
We had a few issues with this subbing last year,
and now once they got so injured, just doing whatever
he could. I think what people he talks today. I
think what people are gonna want to hear from Pope
is today's not the day for beautifuls and specials. We're
gonna be extraordinary. You need to be like we got
our butt kicked. I made these guys run for forty
eight hours. That was unacceptable. We're gonna be better and
we don't need the hyperbable of how beautiful someone's playing.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Behind the scenes, one person writes, Matt, is it possible.
As much as we love Pope, he's actually not a
great loser. His postgame press conferences get very very short,
and he kind of blew by Kelsey in the handshake line.
I didn't see the handshake line, Frederick.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
I wouldn't call it a blowboy that far down he
couldn't well, he was a little short.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
He may not have been able to reach down. I
don't think he's a bad loser.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
I just think he takes loser losing very personally and
it causes because because you're right, I mean, he talks
those postgame pres conference and we lose are over in
like seconds.
Speaker 6 (25:19):
Asked the old miss locker room how well he ended
up losing there last year and when he tore that
to pieces.
Speaker 5 (25:24):
Yeah, I want him to be that way. I don't
want to be the coach sits there. Well, I go home,
he go home and see my dog, and go home
and watch them.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
That's true. You'd rather have me angry than going home
and seeing his dogs.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Yes, he actually comes out and does it too.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
I told that those are both really good points.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
I want him to care. I wanted it to hurt
when when he when we lose, like we hurt.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
What Merson rights, Matt the pot the News podcast with
you and Drew and Billy yesterday on UH Interrupted is
one of my favorite things you've done. My friends and
I have been debating your Forrest Gump question ever since
this was I'm stealing this bit from another show, which
is Bill Simmons. But they were taking famous movie characters
(26:04):
and saying, if you wrote their obituary, what would be
the headline of their obituary?
Speaker 4 (26:10):
So they did it with Rocky.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Balboa, like, Rocky Balboa dies, what's the headline of his obituary?
Speaker 4 (26:17):
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (26:20):
Yo Jesus, I'm coming to see you.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
No, that's not how obituaries go.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
People don't write yo Jesus when I Have you ever
seen an obituary that starts yo Jesus? Well, he said, Yo, Adrian,
I understand, but that's not how you write about You've
seen an obituary before. I've seen if you Okay, Usually
it'll start like like if you die, Take TV radio
local TV radio host Ryan Lemon passes.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
Away at the age of blah blah blah. Huh, So
what's Rockies? Uh, surprise heavyweight champion that shocked the world
passes away?
Speaker 4 (26:56):
There you go, Or it could be man the end
of the Cold War, single handed true passes away right right?
So Drew brought up Forrest Gump.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
How do you lead off Forrest Gump's obituary with all
that he did Shannon, how do you lead off his habituary?
Speaker 2 (27:15):
That's a good question. I mean, because he was in
like every famous thing in history, it seems yes, so.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Would you say Vietnam Medal of Honor winner, But.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
There's there's there's a lot. You got to put it
in there though, way, so.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
What's exactly So what are you leading with taught Elvis
to dance? Restaurant here?
Speaker 2 (27:33):
I feel like the guy that taught Elvis to dance
should probably be like the headline.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
You think so even over Vietnam War, because only one
person taught Elvis to dance.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
Olympic ping Ping ping pong represented our country, kick returner
for Alabama, Alabama, all American, the true invested in some
fruit company.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
The world's the true, world's most interesting man passes away
at ages.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Okay with that, that kind of takes away the conversation.
Speaker 5 (27:58):
Like you said, we can't encapsulate all of it, all
those at the same time, so just kind of say
cling the world's most interesting man.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
So that was a good conversation we had yesterday, Shane
about movie characters.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
Billy had the best line of the whole thing. I'm
not going to steal what it is about Luke Skywalker
what he thought his was.
Speaker 6 (28:14):
No, Billy had the best line earlier when he had
to stop and restart.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
Shannon, get Billy to play. He's just started cussing. He
was mad.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Billy was mad at himself. We needed to let that
out that you need to hear that we didn't put
it on the actual thing. It's up next, Richard, Go ahead, Richard,
Good morning, Richard.
Speaker 7 (28:39):
I was noticing there the night of the game, to
tell you, the Lowell kept over riding our strong side.
There were several times that yellowch and our own pas
were being right open, and I don't know why they
didn't get the ball to him there because they were
(29:00):
standing there. Ride open several times in the first half,
and they were over riding the side where the guards were.
And I think if they would have went went the
hollwards all the week's side, I believe it's gonna scored
their pads all out.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Take care, appreciate the call. I do.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
I do think in the first ten minutes of the game, Drew,
we did a really good job of penetrating and kicking
to the guy. How many open dunks did we have
at the beginning? Moreno, uh, Yellovich Garrison do you buy to?
And then after that it did feel like they did
not see those open looks down low and you It
led to a lot of we ended up taking bad
(29:45):
shots on the perimeter instead of doing what was working.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
Early in the game.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
And that's right about the time they hit that thirteen
oh run that made the lead you couldn't come back from.
It's so obvious when this team gets out of their emotion,
because they do, they just sit around and start jacking
up three. That's when Aberdeen had the two airballs. I mean,
they're not getting in the lane. It completely just goes
full stop and they don't know what to do when
they get in the half court and get jammed up.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
If you can handle the pain, go back and look
after Jalen Lowe makes the three where he gets foul.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
Okay, he makes the three, gets fouled. We go to
a commercial break.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
The next five or six defensive plays for Kentucky and
then offensive plays for Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
We are so awful. We are so awful. We do
not handle the pick and the screen's well. We take
bad shots.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
The couple good shots we get, we airball. Like the
game in my opinion was lost low hits that and
one three, and we're up four.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Or five at that point.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
I think we go up five and then the game
completely gets away from us in the next five minutes.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
And I actually think that was the difference in the game. Yeah,
we said that yesterday. That stretch, right, there was the difference.
I think it being on like a nineteen to two
run or something with something ridiculously.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
I think we were up five and we came out
of it down fourteenth, and.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
You're right, we kind of just became discombobulated on offense,
like there was no efficiency at all, just come down
and jacking up shots. You know that they made the
move on defense? Will they put big through and whiz
Khalifa's dad in the middle of the lane. Kind of
clog that up a little bit.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
Just because his last name is Khalif.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
Huh. Yeah, it looks like he's old.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
That's Pope's boy, that's al.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
He loves him.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
You know, he played for Pope.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
I know that. Yeah, he does look old. He does
look really old.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
He does look old.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
Items like he's hurting, but what's knees back?
Speaker 4 (31:32):
He actually was oddly effective.
Speaker 6 (31:34):
He was You should watch his BYU highlights.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
I mean he as a pastor, he's nasty. He's a
good passer, but he does he does look like he
needs he's like his back is in pain.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
It's that run like he just doesn't look like he's
able to get up.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
He had a couple of really good passes. I mean
he did, he really he does pass the ball well.
But the thing is you got to abuse him on
defense because he's old.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
And the thing is they did. We didn't do that.
We didn't make them pay for having him him in
the game.
Speaker 5 (32:00):
Now he just don there clogging up the lane. You know,
he didn't get moment far outside the basket down there
and was their rim protector down there.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
That's right, who's next? Ship Adam Adam? Go ahead at him?
Speaker 9 (32:10):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Guys?
Speaker 9 (32:13):
If you have told me that you know, Ul's back
court was better than Kentucky's. Okay, I thought our front
court would dominate that.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
I didn't too.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Didn't happen, did you not?
Speaker 9 (32:25):
It blows my mind.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
It did not.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
We should and we did dominate him early first ten minutes,
our front court dominated him. But then you're right, we
got we just that went away that that might be
the biggest key to the game, Ryan, is that our
front court that should have been where our advantage.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
Was, and it did not happen. So is it because
those two guys are just such big butt post player
we couldn't move around them.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
With Brandon and Malachi, I think some of our perimeter
guys missed him. And then I think sometimes they got
the ball and they were just ineffective and they just
couldn't They didn't, they weren't able to do anything with it.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
Yeah, on pregame show talking about who's better at each position,
I was like, front court, no question, Kentucky's the winner.
Now we might have the better backcourt, but we should
kill him inside. And then just that didn't happen at all. Yeah,
what were we gonna say?
Speaker 9 (33:09):
Yeah, Matt Cavu follow a listening person's report, h oh
take it away?
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Well, I mean, O take.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
I don't want to pick on the kick because he's
been so good here, so I'm willing to give him
a bad game. I appreciate the call. You know, we'll
see what he does Friday or next week in New York.
But the you know, if you Otaga has to be
better than that. I know he finished I went back
and look, he finished with twelve points. He had a
couple of cys, but he just I mean, it's just
objective Ryan. He wasn't what he's been.
Speaker 5 (33:40):
He just wasn't five turnovers and just seemed to be
kind of going through the motions. It just wasn't the
otaga that we saw last year out there.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
It seemed like, by the way, I have another person
that wants me to call out someone here for their dating,
but I'm not gonna do that. But just so you know,
you're all if if if there's misbehavior, there are other
parents who are riding in.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
Everybody hears unnoticed this.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
I think the new or people they have, they have
people trying to embarrass them.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
If you we are brought to UKSR by Serve Pro,
the number one choice and clean up in restoration. Whether
it's moldfire storm or water damages, We've got a pro
for that. It's Serve Pro. They'll make it like it
never even happen. You have damage, They'll come and clean
it up. They're also the sponsor of the ESPN Radio
College Football Tour, the First Responder.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
Bowl, Golf, and more.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
It's Serve Pro. We hope you don't need them, but
if you do, they're serve pro.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
I told the crowd here last night, told Ryan Shannon,
they officially picked me and Myron for sure for a
bowl game this year. Nice, and would you like to
hear the bowl game Myron and I are calling this
year the New Orleans Bowl.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
It is in New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Louisiana used to be like the something in Carrier's Bowl,
but it's in New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
You know who the who? They are projecting to play
each other in this bowl game this year. I have
no idea.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Two teams I'm excited about Old Dominion in Kennesaw State.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Yeah, their homework right now. Learning about those two teams.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
We have to be down there for a while, Like
we have to be down there for a couple of days.
We meet with the coaches.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
What am I gonna say to the Old Dominion coach?
Speaker 6 (35:17):
Teach me football as quickly as you can.
Speaker 5 (35:20):
Tell me about the mic, the same and the will.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
It's December twenty third at five pm.
Speaker 6 (35:26):
So you're doing play by play. You're gonna be like
I'm doing.
Speaker 5 (35:30):
That's not the record.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
I've never done play by play in my life. Do
they know that we're not gonna bring it up? Are
you gonna call off the formation?
Speaker 3 (35:39):
So, people, I've never done play by play in my life,
and I have to do play by play for an
ESPN game. I don't know two teams. You know nothing
about two teams I know nothing about. That's you guys
all describe why this is such a great idea. I've
already decided I'm gonna go watch a couple of games
(35:59):
of teams I don't know and practice in my house.
Maybe I'll even have Mario live stream it. As I
learned to play by.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
Play, I did hear Myron was on the sideline of
the Vikings broadcast Sundays. He's got a little experience that's
a little different.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Than play by play and color. I mean, you've never
done it. I've never done it one time in my life.
Speaker 6 (36:18):
So you're gonna, you know, call out trips to the
right traygun formation.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
Just do what Tom Hart does, just throwing some KSR
references and everybody.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
Look, I'm gonna assume most of the audience will be us.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Did they designate you to be the play by play
go or can Myron maybe be the bay?
Speaker 4 (36:31):
They want me to be the play by play guy?
And I've never done it.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
That's what makes this perfect. It's a ridiculous bullet. I've
talked about this. I may seriously try to do a
high school game or something. The problem is it's the playoffs.
So like, nobody wants me to learn in their high
school playoff game.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
I don't know what I'm gonna do, but Tom, but
you're gonna find out. December twenty third, at five o'clock.
We'll take a break and.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
Be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Walk back.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Here at KOs Bar. They're
about to start ordering food. I would recommend By the
Way Wings, but the New Burghers are great. I think
they're even new since the last time y'all were here,
so uh, they're they're really good.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
Now.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
I don't know what you're alls, what the budget is,
but the potato kegs are good if they'll let you
get it appetized. Eight f I've nine two twenty two
eighty seven one person rights. Matt Old Dominion plays on
TV tonight. They have a quarterback named Colton Joseph who's
really good. See I'm already working on some stratchgy Joseph
back to pass, looks left.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
You know what's gonna have you go? You're gonna study
Old Dominion in kennessall state and neither one of them.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
One of the projections I saw had Western play.
Speaker 5 (37:40):
Oh that might be good.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
So that actually would be good because I could probably
learn a little bit about Western between now and the
in the game.
Speaker 6 (37:48):
And just fill dead air with bowling green things. Talk
about the Corvette Museum for the loom play.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Oh that's true, yo, I could Yeah, that's right. I
could do a lot about about the way off topic.
Oh yeah, talk about how at leas's the nation in
Ozimpic third down, third time, All the Ozimpic people are here.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
I think I'll you got this, I think i'll I think.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
I'll be ready to go. Let's talk about football for
just second. Kentucky plays Tennessee Tech Saturday with this is
a home game.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Crowd? What do we think it'll be?
Speaker 5 (38:24):
Home game? Senior day. Weather's supposed to be pretty good.
You know, normally a game like this, I wouldn't think
a crowd would be much. But I'm kind of hopeful
that it's going to be a nice crowd for him
on one thirty.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
So at unique time.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
We're opening here by the way Saturday at ten, so
we're serving regular food, but we're opening an hour early.
My pregame show will our pregame show will start at
nine to thirty. Uh, but the restaurant will open at ten,
so you can come in by the way. Drew and
I are doing the pregame show and then getting in
a car and driving to Buffalo after the game, so
people do like people do, and then we will do
(38:58):
the postgame show from so where on the road, so
like we'll probably be in like Akron.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
Or Cleveland when we do the postgame.
Speaker 5 (39:06):
Show, which could be great entertainment. So just try to
tune into that on them.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
But yes, what do you expect to see Saturday? Are
you at all? I mean there are ten and oer
are you at all worried about.
Speaker 5 (39:16):
Losing this game? No? They they are.
Speaker 6 (39:20):
The average of winning is like the Margins in the thirties.
And they're the number one offense in FCS and the
number three defense in FCS. So they're bud as good
as an FCS team as you can play.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
But they're not. But they're but they're not one of
the great FC.
Speaker 6 (39:33):
Their teams they're beating are bad. Like their stats are good,
but they don't have they haven't beaten anyone.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
So you're not at all worried about losing the game.
Speaker 6 (39:41):
Fire everyone if they lose Saturday, they an FCS team
on senior Day.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
My god, look at this kid's praying that we lose.
You to come on, now, that's you can't do that.
Speaker 6 (39:50):
You cannot lose to an FCS team. I don't care
that they were winning about thirty or ranked what they are.
I'm just adding that for a little context, you cannot
lose them.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
He's the game close at halftime, better not be so
you just think like you're outclassed.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Shouldn't even be an issue.
Speaker 6 (40:05):
I don't think you should have the SEC patch on
your uniform if you can't handle your business pretty quickly.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
I mean, to be fair, there's been I don't think
there's been a major team lose to an FCS team
yet this year. Sometimes that happens occasionally, I don't think
that's happened this year, so like there's really no excuse
for it to.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
I mean, North Dakota State's the best team.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
I think they played at Kansas State and it was close,
but Kansas State did win, So I don't think there's
any excuse to lose.
Speaker 6 (40:32):
The you're hot right now, it's actually you need to win.
It's not like you're a great team and they're gonna
sneak up on you. You need to stack a few
more wins to keep this going.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
So I did.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
There would be a horrible loss, even if it's close.
I think it would be a terrible.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
Look.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
They struggled to beat Gardner Web last week. That's all
I need to know. You struggle to beat Gardner Web.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
Yeah, but we've had some history with Gardner Web basketball.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
You know, there have been those football games in the past,
Like it was close against what Austin p at halftime and.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
We were losing at Austin. I think we went an
overtime Eastern Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (41:01):
Yeah, I went to overtime with the Eastern.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
No, we were lucky to beat Eastern Kentucky. Eastern Kentucky
had us beat that year.
Speaker 6 (41:08):
Oh yeah, Dorian Baker made a catch to force overtime, right,
that was.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
An amazing catch. That's exactly right.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
So but I we should win this game easily, and
then of course we get to the what do you
think about the video of Diego Pavia with all the
second straight video of a player.
Speaker 5 (41:24):
Did you see this?
Speaker 4 (41:25):
Have you seen this?
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Shannon Diego Diego Pavia is sitting at a restaurant in
Nashville with THEO Vaughn and the dude from barstool, Glenny Balls.
I don't know how in the world he ended up there,
but he's got uh, he's got theov he's got a
big stack of money a lah. But they're all ones,
which I'm serious, like this thing, I mean, it's see
(41:49):
I would argue that's even more weird.
Speaker 6 (41:51):
Well, he was probably going somewhere I know, but like
he is that this He pulled that money out of
the bank, not to talk and Garrett, but to put
someone through.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
How many ones do you think that is? It's like,
I mean, it was like this much. What do you know?
Speaker 3 (42:06):
It's a huge stack. What do you think I mean,
bigger than a softball in one thousand dollars ones, five
hundred dollars ones.
Speaker 5 (42:12):
I don't think it's more than a thousand. That's that stack.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
Have you seen the video?
Speaker 6 (42:16):
Yeah, I'd say five hundred dollars in ones, Yeah, i'd
know over on five hundred.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
It's it is weird though thing of ones. You know,
it's strange as well. Anyway, we'll take a break, come
back our number two. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
