pulled off quite a coup. I mean, really, create a
KSR club. You get to come up here during school,
sit at a bar, h from South Laurel, which is
at least an hour drive up here.

I'm a huge fan of these kids just for their
ability to to if nothing else and listen to the show,
but also get out of school. Drew, I think it's
actually quite impressive.

I was pretty good at getting out of school myself,
and I got admit creating a club to go to
another town to sit.

Now it popped in my brain. We didn't have it.

I tried to create a Joby and Denny club and nobody.

I kind I've tried. When I was in school, we
had like the chess club and some boring club.

We have a chess club in Otwell, Indiana, Hike Central Heighs.

We were outstanding. Yeah, nothing cool like a ks R club.

I was scheduled to speak at UK last week.

I had to cancel because I was up doing something
at ESPN, and the professor asked me to come this week.
And then all of a sudden, I got online and
it had been posted like it was like some kind
of crazy news.

Story that I had canceled at ESPN.

Somebody posted breaking news Matt Jones cancels his UK appearance,
and then there were all these people chiming.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
In and I was like, what I had to go
to ESPN. I'm doing it next week.

So I'm going today to speak to some sort of
journalism class.

Speaker 6 (02:45):
I'm gonna teach them all about the ins and outs
of being a respected journalism in the community.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Well here's how I respected. I am. I hate that
I'm doing this today, you're here.

I forgot my book of topics, which is an unfortunate thing.
Normally I have this long book of topics, as you know,
I've had one for fourteen years. Today I left it
in the wrong place, So we're going We're going completely
raw today. When it comes to topics, and it's an
ask anything. Thursday, you can call in or text in
and ask any question.

I call your tablet your bible because you carried around religiously,
and you keep them when the year's over, don't you
keep them somewhere?

I have everyone I've done since two thousand. I have
them going back to my law practice. I have everything
from two since about two thousand and five. They become
harder and harder to find because people don't keep physical
calendars anymore. They keep it on their phone. But I
look at my phone already too much, so I like
having the book.

Do you ever go back to your old books and you're.

Up to no?

Well, sometimes I need to know, like when did I
do this right? So sometimes I go back and try
to see when when something happened. I just finished my
taxes a few weeks ago, and it was that I
hate I tell you one day a year, and I'm sorry.

I know y'all don't want me to get political on
this show, but I.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Become I'm a Democrat three hundred and sixty four days
a year I'm a Republican one day a year and
it's tax day, and especially today, I have to go
back and find all that stuff, So I don't like that.

Well, in Kentucky, you know, they gave us a reprieve.
We didn't have to turn them in until what November
the third this year because of the floods and everything.
They kind of give us a little little I.

Think it was November third. Guess what day I turned

I know that because sometimes your accountant calls me asking

Last night, I was as exhausted as I could be
when we got done with this trivia. It was nice
to have trivia. There were Ryan's team came like fourth

We were tenth. We were right in the middle.

Yes, give us a little respect. You didn't do great
at all the questions, but.

UNC Wilmington is one that you can easily forget. But
we were on our road trip. Remember how we were
on that one when that happened. Where were we watched
that game? We were like in uh, I want to say,
like Lofayette, Indiana or something. It was somewhere in Indiana
and we were we were we were upset about it.

Actually, we watched until the final minutes at your house
in Louisville. Then drove a little bit.

We were saying, we'll leave when they get up twenty
and then they just never got up, so we're like, well,
we can't leave. Then they lost the game, So that
was fun.

We give me going going into now that we've lost
to Louisville, have your expectations the season changed or is
it just one game? So think about where you were
before the game and where you are now. Has anything
changed in your expectations?

Maybe just a little. I still have a really high expectation,
but maybe just a little start to see some things
I don't really like that I wasn't concerned about. Like
we talked about Otega yesterday.

You know the inability to shoot the basketball by some
of these guys. So maybe you answer your question so

Would I would say I still think their potential is
what it always has been for me. They might could
be able to be worse. Maybe their floors a little
lower than I expected. Got a few concerns, but I
mean that was Louisville's a top ten team that was
a true road environment. On November eleventh, uh, someone posted,
like the first true road games every year of like
the last ten years, and most of them have been long.

Yeah, even it sucks being Louisville, and you know, I've
already moved on from that, had twenty four hours having
to put up with them on Twitter. Other than that, though,
it doesn't change my long term out look.

I thought this team was an Elite eight Final four
team that if things got fortunate, you could win a
title with. I still think that's true. I mean, I
think Louisville's Elite eight Final four team. We played them
on their home court. It was a wild environment. They
hit shots early. So there are a couple things though,
Like Ryan said that, I'm a little worried about I'm

especially I've always been worried about the shooting. I'm a
little worried about now what they're gonna do with all
these big guys. I wish we could make a trade,
I really do. I wish we could trade one of
these bigs for a shooter, because we got too many
big guys, and we're getting another one, you know, we
got too many.

We'll see how it plays out, but this could be
a year where we're questioning how Pope built everything. There
might be a roster that we have too many bigs
and not enough shooters. Now, if Noah locks in and
shoots lights out and Chandler shoots half as good as
his shooting right now, maybe the shooting won't be an issue.
But just trying to predict what's ahead, it looks like
too many big.

Well, these bigs, one of these bigs is not gonna
play and they're probably not gonna be happy. And and
I think it's either gonna be I think it's gonna
be Brandon Garrison. I think you're gonna see his minutes
go down, and then you gotta decide, like.

If you're just talking about trying to win, I mean,
think about it. Who were gonna play that's better than
them on their home floor? Probably maybe nobody. I mean
it's gonna be them, Maybe Florida.

The road too, So I wonder if that had just
been say that was the Clemson game last year, if
people would be as upset. I think it's just because
if we're not used to losing to louis.

Because it was Louisville.

I don't think I think people are forming opinions about
the team because it was Louisville. And if it had
been just whatever, name an acc opponent, another one, it
wouldn't have been as bad as follow.

We ended the show yesterday with people with somebody saying
that the honeymoon period for Mark is over. We didn't
really get a long chance to talk about that. You've
heard really for the first time starting yesterday, questions about
the way he coaches, the way he builds rosters, by
the way, that's gonna happen. That was gonna happen at
some point. Now it's happened. Do you think that changes

anything the fact that now, because really nobody did that
last year, really at all.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
I mean I've heard it a couple times. A guy
told me yesterday, Man, he lost to Caliperi. Now he's
lost to Louisville, you know. But for me personally, I'm
still in the honeymoon phase. I mean, like we've been
saying all morning, it was just a game in early November,
a non conference game.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
You drop it.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
It shouldn't affect the way you play the rest of
the year.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
I'm gonna be interested to see after Michigan State because
in my opinion, with Michigan State Drew, we should be
better than them. They're a style that is more similar
to Purdue, who we beat, and produce probably better than
Michigan State. So that's a game I want to see
us go win. In Madison Square Garden. You've talked over
the years how we've struggled with the Champions Classic and

so many times, and it's time for us to win
one of those games, and as we said, Louisville maybe
the hardest non conference game. You could make a case
Michigan State should be the easiest non conference game.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
So I think we got to win it.

Speaker 6 (18:32):
And after taking that loss, hopefully it's been a rough
couple days of practice with more to come. In fact,
I hope they're still running. So I think Pope getting
some teaching moment should even have them more locked in
for Michigan State. Not that they'd be locked in for
that game, but taking a loss like that one at
Louisville should help them out moving forward.

Did you see the video Mario posted of the kid
in the UFL student section getting flipped off and getting
yelled at by Louisville fans.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
That's gone very viral online.

Do you think do you think the Louisville fans were
jerks to the kid wearing the Kentucky shirt in the
Louisville student section.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
I think they were jerks, But if it was reversed,
it was a Louisville fan sitting in the eruption zone.
Our students may have done the same thing. I come
in that dude, that dude, I was brave to go
on enemy turned I for one, I understand he didn't
have a ticket to sit there. He just went down
there and warmed his way in and found it.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
But he wasn't he wasn't being allowed. He was just
sitting there.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
But I mean they were like giving him the bird
in his face, like, and Mario was standing right there
trying to talk to him, and people were booing him.
And then Jalen Lowe gets involved on the way to
the locker room and is yelling a little bit.

I'm gonna disagree with the right. I can't see eruption.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
Zone doing that. I really don't think they would either.
Louisville fans are meaner, Yeah, no they are. I can't
see that. I don't think the eruption Zone would do that.

Played heckle, but it wouldn't be the bleeps, you know,
and all that we were seeing on that video.

I mean, I walked by the Louisville student section before
the game, and it's funny how things have changed. Like
there was a time that that would have been like
I wouldn't have walked by it. I would have felt unsafe,
but now I was fine. But then a few of
them recognized me and then they started a chant and
the middle finger, and then they all did it, so
they were in a middle finger frame of mind drew

the whole time. So I'm not surprised that kid got
it because I got it right before that too, So
I can.

See it and in the celebration, good for them, they
won have their moment, but I can't help but notice it.
They are acting like they won the national championship. Now
