forty five minutes, David Bass goesone on one with no Ma No mar
Garcia Paro well. Last night atthe stadium, the Dodgers had themselves say
well, tough time against Brandon Fott, who win six innings, allowed three

(01:08):
runs on four hits while striking outseven. Gavin Stone meanwhile, win six
innings, he gave up four runson eight hits and struck out five.
The Dodgers were playing catch up afterthe Arizona Diamondbacks scored two runs in the
second inning, they jumped out toa two to zing lead. The Dodgers
cut that lead in half in thebottom half of the fourth inning, show

(01:30):
hey Otani scoring on a throwing airby the catcher Moreno that made it a
two to one Arizona lead. TheArizona diaback Zone got that run back in
the top half of the fifth inningas they are up three to one on
the Catel Marte RBI ground out.In the top of the six Christian Walker
added to that lead with a solohome run four hundred and fourteen feet as

(01:52):
the Arizona Diamonbacks took the lead evenmore, they were of four to one
the bottom of the six zough, the Dodgers answered back Oh Hey, Otani
and RBI single to right, scoringMiguel Vargas. That made it a forty
two game. Then Will Smith addedto it. Let's see what he gives.
Smith a one to two With Otanion second, Smith a base hit

(02:13):
right center field that splits the gap. It'll get all the way to the
warning track. Oh Tani comes aroundon the RBI double for Will Smith and
the Dodgers have made it a fourto three games. Will Smith with the
RBI double to center. That's thetop tier play the game's marts of by
Arco quality, top tier gas forless. Dodgers down four to three.

(02:35):
They could get no closer, though. In the top half of the seventh
inning, a former Dodger had hisrevenge. Dodgers just scored two to get
within one. Looking for a shutdownframe with some stress behind him, Peterson
puts one in the air deep rightfield. He tosses the bat toward his
own dugout as he's gone over theright field wall for a three run homer.

(02:58):
October in Jock Peterson with the threerun a home run four hundred and
nine feet to the bleachers in RyeField, his sixth of the year as
the Arizona Dimebacks go on and winit last night by a final of seven
to three. Brandon Fodd gets thewin, his second of this season.
Gavin long get Stone gets the loss, his second of this season. As

(03:21):
the Dodgers have their winning streak cometo win in and now tonight they fights
the rubber game of this three gameseries. Look to close out the homestand
with the win. Tyler Glass nowon the mound first pitch at seven to
ten and with more Let's head outto the Galvin Motors broadcast booth on this
Wednesday night as we say hello toour friends Rick Monday and Steven Nelson.
Guys, thank you. Tim Katesriding Shotgun with Rick Monday and Mow.

(03:44):
The Dodgers wrap up a stretch ofthirteen straight games an off day of travel
day on Thursday before the road tripto Cincinnati and New York. I know
this might be a cop out ishquestion, but do you believe after last
night watching the Dodgers, because thegame felt sluggish and some of the guys
looked a little sluggish, do yousense that it's the end of a thirteen

(04:06):
in a row stretch. I don'tthink it's that much. I think it
was just a dud. They happened. And for this Dodger ball club has
scored so many runs day in andday out, and the pitching has been
absolutely phenomenal. Every once in awhile, you're going to dial up something
that just doesn't really add up,and the Dodgers couldn't add it up last
night. They didn't do a realgood job really in most of the aspects

(04:30):
of the game. I remember whenyou start to look at it overall,
and I think you need to lookat the bigger picture more than anything else.
Okay, there's six and four inthe last ten games. They're twenty
one and nine in the last thirtygames that they have played, and they
start tonight with an eight game leadover San Diego nine in front of Arizona,
who they will wrap up the serieswith tonight. But I think this
is ball club coming off of thedud last night. I don't know if

(04:54):
I'd want to pitch against this teamwith the ideas that, hey, look,
this offense could explode again, andI fully expected to do that,
and Tyler glast now certainly hope so. I mean, the first two thirds
of his Dodgers' career. So far, he got plenty of run support,
but the last couple of turns hasbeen a different story. And the offense

(05:15):
as a hole has been really spottyof late, right, I mean,
what is it five of the lasttwenty something offensive innings, they've only been
able to muster runs, but getrun support for a guy who doesn't need
a lot. Knock on wood,I should be the thing that could help
tip the scales in this series. You know, it was really outstanding last
night is watching show? Hey o'toni? He had the double in the fourth
inning, he steals third an errantthrow and the Dodgers get a run as

(05:36):
a result of a him hitting theball, be stealing a base and forcing
mistakes. He also had an RBIsingle that came in the sixth inning and
the second stolen base of the night. And people continue to ask me,
I know they ask you as well, what is it that o'tani brings to
this Dodger bunk club that we've notseen before? And you have to be
very honest to say just about everything, including at the turns. People want

(06:00):
to see, they want to beable to get close and witness and we
see all different dimensions who would havethought he had two stolen bases in a
ballgame and force issue. You expectthe hits, yes, expect the power,
yes, but the speed in theother dimensions is what really kind of
catches your eye. Yeah, hereally made everything happen last night for the
Dodgers, was responsible really for allthree of the team's runs. Twenty second

(06:24):
multi hit game what without pitching. This year, he has found a way
to elevate his offensive game, anddespite being a primary designated hitter, he
is in one of the two frontseats for the National League MVP race,
along with his teammate Mookie Betts. We're gonna step aside real quick, TC
send it back down to you whenwe come back, we'll dive into this
series finale a little bit more. All right, Thanks a lot, Nelly,

(06:44):
if we cut you down to firstpitch. Dodger fans, get your
game day meal on and Shakey's PizzaParlor. What are your Shaky's Pizza Chicken

(07:08):
next you're Otani Rewind and Kirsten Watsonstopped by from sports and at LA.
That's all coming up to lead youto Dodgers and Diamondbacks final game with the
homestand final game of thirteen games inthirteen days. Finally a day off tomorrow,
but a big one tonight and firstpitch of seven ten. Thanks for

(07:28):
being with us. I'm Tim Kass. Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network is Lorongo
Casino, Dodgers on, Dodgers ondeck y'all on the official home of LA
Dodgers Baseball. Dodgers and Diamondbacks.Tyler Glasnow will go for the Dodgers.
Brandon Hughes, the left hander, will be the opener for the Snakes.

(07:49):
First pitch at seven ten. Thisis the Otani Rewind, the right handed
starter for Arizona, gave up youoff, walked to Mookie Betts to start
the game and a stolen base, but nothing since until this rocket extra base
hit for show. Hey O Taniinto the left field corner on the first
pitch of the fourth inning, heproduces a leadoff double. Here's the only

(08:13):
one pitch. Otani, taking offher third to throw down from a reno,
goes into the outfield and show Heywill score easily. The Dodgers are
within one on two to oh Otaniswings base hit on the right field on
the RBI hit for show. HeyOtani plates Miguel Vargas and pulls the Dodgers
within two. Show Hey Otani goestwo for four last night with the RBI,

(08:39):
two runs scored and two stolen bases. He's now got thirteen stolen bases
on this season. The Otani Rewindbrought to you by Eto ns Oocha,
Japan's number one green Ta available yourlocal DISO stores, Amazon and etoin dot
com. That's it t O eN dot com. This is Keirston's with

(09:01):
Kirsten Watson. Hey, Kirsten outjoins just from the stadium before the Dodgers
and Diamondbacks and Kirston, we've finallymade it thirteen games, thirteen days.
They say baseball is a marathon, not a sprint, but man, this
year felt like a sprint. Itfelt like a sprint. It has been
a long thirteen days, that's forsure. But look, if you go

(09:22):
back and just kind of look atwhat these last series have looked like.
So start in San Diego. SanDiego took two of three, but since
then they've won every series and todaythey have the chance to get the win
for this series against the Diamondbacks. And so when Dave was talking about kind
of what he's been seeing from thisteam over these last twelve games, he's
talked about, you know, therehave been some really quality at bats.

(09:43):
He's seen some guys get on track. The pitching has been really good.
You know, if you look atjust here and there, there have been
a few little I don't think hiccupsare the right word, but just kind
of a moment where, you know, and Tyler's last outing wasn't his best
stuff, so he's kind of lookingto get back on track. Feels like
a stretch when it comes to himbecause he's been playing so well as of
late, but just get back towhere he's been this season. Last night,

(10:07):
Gavin Stone he felt like he feltlike he had good pitches, but
there were just kind of what afew that the Diamondbacks were able to get
to to get the results that theyhad. So ultimately, they've always they've
all felt there's been a lot ofpositives right now, but also everyone's ready
to get to that off day.You know, it's thirteen and thirteen is
a lot and so the off dayis coming at a very very good time

(10:28):
injury wise. The Dodgers, EvanPhillips and Bobby Miller, if you're in
the ie, that would be hangingout in Rancho Kougamunga this weekend. Oh
yeah, so yeah, tomorrow, the plan is for Evan Phillips to go
out there and you're taking his firstrehab outing, taking down an inning,
and then on Sunday, Bobby Miller'sgoing to have the Star and Evan Phillips

(10:50):
is also going to be online foron Sunday as well. So Sunday's a
big day. Need to go outthere, get your Bobby Miller jerseys on
Evan Phillips. That would be afun one to see. And then the
plan for just Bobby going back tohim. The plan for him is he's
gonna need likely like three outings.Dave was saying, the first world will
probably be three innings, and thenfour innings and then five, and then

(11:11):
he'll be making his way back tothe rotation. And then for Evan,
he doesn't necessarily need like a backto back outing type thing, but Dave
said, they're gonna let him seehim take down two outings in three days,
so at that point they'll know he'sready to come back. But everyone's
been saying in a week, sevento ten days, and so hopefully that's

(11:31):
what maybe end of the next roadtrip or when the team gets back home.
It'd be nice to get some armsback to help out this Dodgers team.

back out to Dodger Stadium and checkout with the Dodgers skipper any answered Dave?

(13:18):
Do you think questions for Dave?Dave? Can you just describe Dave?
Can you talk about the pressure inthe dugouts with Dave Roberts excip it
with all the great things that arehappening to your club this year, can
you single off one point one thingthat your club is doing better than maybe
even you expected. I guess probablythe roles in the bullpen. You know,

(13:46):
having four of the five guys, your top leverage guys essentially down for
a good bit of time and nothaving that continuity, just being able to
have those guys step up and pitchwhenever and wherever I asked him to do
and still be productive. So Ithink that's probably been the biggest cog of

(14:07):
you know, the first part ofthe season, Big Mookie was talking about,
you know, how hard it isto move into the infield, and
you guys were asking Miguel Margas todo that last year. How much does
that put into perspective, you know, what he was trying to do.
And then what does it say forhim that he's kind of come out the
other side, and he's still hitting. He's still a productive player. I

(14:28):
think it says a lot about obviouslythe person the player, and you know,
even to his credit as good asas as much improved as he's gotten
defensively at shortstop, he still doesn'tfeel like he's on the other side.
That's a credit to Mooki in thesense that he's always staying hungry to keep
getting better on the margins, youknow, and still to not you know,

(14:52):
give up anything on the offense. It is quite remarkable, you know,
Fargus Varghi. It's hard and socertain with his struggles last year and
trying to play some third base andmove around outfield, play some second base
and third base. It's a lotto take on, certainly for a young
player. Kind of nice to seehim get a swing back though the way

(15:13):
he has. I mean, hewas pretty mechanical towards the end of his
stay here, and that he looksfree again, he does, he looks
much more free and easy. Itwas good to see him, you know,
get the head to a fastball lastnight. So yeah, I'll keep
him alive and be ready off thebench and we'll see if we can get
him a start here in the nextcoming days. But he certainly his kind

(15:35):
of overall demeanor is much better thanit was last year. All right,
there's Dave Roberts down the dug out, brought to you my Service Titan.

Dodgers and Dimebacks. I'm Tim kThis is Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.
This is Marongo Casino, Dodgers onDeck on your home for the Blue all
season Law Law, Dodgers in Diamondback, Tyler Glasnow on the Mountain. Brandon
Hughes will serve as the opener firstpitch coming up at seventen. Joining Tim

(16:23):
Kats on Dodgers on Deck. Iaccept everybody for who they are. This
is Dodger insider David Basse. Allright, DV. Last night, the
Dodgers lose, but showy O'tani reallystood out. He really did tim and
him on his own. In thefourth inning, scored the first Dodger run,
let off with a double, andthen stole third base, forced a

(16:45):
bad throw from Gabriel Moreno, andscored. I mean, that is the
part of Otani's game that you don'tappreciate unless you get to see him play
every day, Just how hard heplays, how operistic he is on the
basis. We've talked about Freddie Freeman, and the most underappreciated part of his

(17:06):
game is how he values ninety feet, meaning he values good base running.
Otani feels the same way, andyou could see by the way he plays.
Even when he hits a ground ballto the second basement, a lot
of guys would just jog up thefirst base line. Not him. He's
running like it's the last out ofGame seven of the World Series. So

(17:26):
that's the biggest appreciation I have forthe way Otani plays. David is driven
by Ford, America's best selling truckfor forty seven years in County Heady or
southern California. Ford Dealers for greatoffers on a Ford M Series truck or
Ford Model during Ford's Memorial Day,Selithon built Ford Tough, Keith k Hernandez,
Miguel Rojas, what's going on withtheir gloves, Dave, I don't

(17:47):
know. I have interests in playersgloves. You know, Clayton Kershat retired
his glove after the twenty twenty WorldSeries, and you know Keith a Hernandez
has stepped into third base with theinjury to Max Munsey and has played great
defense there. I mean, here'sa guy that could play all over,
and I feel like we take itfor granted. And I asked Kei k
whether or not he uses the sameglove that he would use at any other

(18:12):
infield spot outside of first base, like shortstop or second and he said no,
Actually, my glove is a littlebigger than the one I use when
I play up the middle, anda little smaller than an outfielder's glove.
And I asked Miguel Rojas, sincethey were standing right next to each other,
I asked Rojas, who obviously isknown for his great defense. I

(18:33):
wanted to know how long he hadbeen using the glove that he currently uses,
and he said since twenty twenty one, and the reason why he switched
from his old glove was because heused to use a lot of pine tar
to get grips on the baseball, and he said he had so much pine
tar on his glove that it weigheddown, so he had to switch it

(18:53):
out. And currently during batting practicehe's using a brand new glove to break
in. So when this twenty twentyone to twenty twenty four glove breaks down,
he has a new one ready togo. David, where are the
Dodgers you think at right now? After this thirteen games in thirteen days.
Obviously they got a big lead inthe division, But I guess mentally,

(19:15):
physically, where are they at rightnow? It feels like mentally they're more
fatigued than they are physically. Thisgame takes a lot out of you mentally,
emotionally, and they're playing at ahigh level. So it feels like
just some of the buzz in theclubhouse, a lot of guys are aware
this is the end of thirteen ina row and they're looking forward to tomorrow's
no game, despite a flight toCincinnati and then to City Field. All

(19:40):

Tyler Glass Now Brandon Hughes a pitchingmatchup Dodgers fans. Start your future
at a California community college. Financialaid is available to help you with the
tuition, books, and sometimes eventhe rent. It's tied to take the
next big step. Classes can fillup quickly, So enrolled today and I

(23:11):
can go to college dot com andnow joined by David Basse here's La Dodgers
broadcast there and World Series champion DodgerRick Monday the Dodgers wrapping up this homestand
and Rick Monday the Dodgers wrapping upthirteen games in a row. Yeah,
it's good, you know, youstart to look at it. One of

(23:33):
the things that Dave Roberts does,I think exceptionally well, is that,
having played the game, he understandsreally the heartbeat of all the individual players.
And by that, David, I'mtalking about which guys are starting to
have the gas tank, maybe geta little bit not on empty, but
maybe need to park it for atleast the beginning of the game, or

(23:55):
maybe they get a day off.A couple of days ago Mookie Betts had
scheduled off, and they do thatfrom time to time because Dave understands,
Look, you can't go day in, day out, day out. However,
trying to explain that to Freddie Freemanat first, because it'll take a
very large tractor to pull him outof the lineup. But occasionally Dave Roberts
will be able to do it especially, I think take them out of the

(24:18):
game in the seventh inning or maybeeven the eighth inning. It doesn't sound
like a whole lot, but froma player's standpoint, when you get that
last couple of innings off, ifyou've got a very big lead, or
maybe it's one of those dud games, and you say, look, does
kind of give the big horses thatpull the wagon a little bit of a
breather. That is a big breatherto just get out of the game for
a couple of innings early. Andas you know, Rick, this game

(24:41):
can drain you mentally more than physicallywears you down. And it's constant.
It's a constant banging of the drumand you hear it in both ears,
and it wears you down mentally. It wears you down physically. And these
guys from time to time have torealize, look, maybe I need to
not go on the field for anadditional thirty minutes so taking extra ground balls.

(25:03):
Maybe we cut it down to fiveminutes today. Maybe we don't do
it at all today. I justget loose and play the game. You
have to understand, and these guysunderstand full well what their body is telling
them. You know, they're notgoing to cry uncle and go and and
say hey, look, you knowyou've got to get me out of the
lineup or anything else. They're notgoing to do on that end of it.
But you understand full well when youkind of need to rein it back

(25:26):
a little bit more. Thirteen ina row. Yeah, it's a pretty
good stretch. Everybody talks about aday off tomorrow, but everybody that's out
there that travels, you know,we travel rather nicely in the charter plane,
but it's still travel to where you'reout of your element and you're in
a different city. Rick, arewe taking for granted? Keith a Hernandez

(25:48):
just seamlessly moving to third base.I think we have a tendency to take
everybody for granted, David, especiallywith ball clubs. You know, if
you look at the Dodgers over theyears, and this is not an advertisement,
this is this is reality. TheDodgers year in and year out and
put a wonderful product on the field, that being the players, the surroundings
from which they present the game hereat the stadium is superb. You know,

(26:12):
you have a hard time believing thisis the third oldest ball park in
baseball because the product is good,The place is very convenient to have.
It's a wonderful place to present thisgame of baseball. But I think we
get spoiled because of the product that'sbeen presented a year in and year out.
It's not easy to repeat a competitiveteam all the time. People look

(26:33):
at all the salary. The salaryhas nothing to do with getting the right
players. And it's not always theguy that has the highest average or this
or that. You say, hey, look, the bottom line is does
he fit with our organization? Doeshe fit with what we are trying to
do and go forward? It's notalways check off the box and check off
the box. The Dodgers understand theplayers that they need to acquire, and
one of those guys was show HeyoTani. Yes he has a lot of

(26:56):
talent rick but watching him player, does he play harder on every single play
than you imagined? Who would havethought a couple of nights ago that he
would have laid down a bunch?Yeah, and that shocked everybody who would
have thought. Last night he stealsa third base and it led to an
air in a run, and thenhe stole another base later on on the
ball game. The other thing.I've mentioned this to you, and I've

(27:18):
said on the air a couple oftimes. You can tell the importance and
really the attraction of Show hey Otanibecause when he's in the on deck circle
is when people say, hey,I'm not going to the concession stand.
I'm going to end this conversation becauseall eyes are on Show hey Otani,
including any of the vendors. Vendorsdon't even move around. Everybody wants to
look at it. And we seeit on the road. Also, it's
not just here. It reminds mea little bit. You go back to

(27:41):
nineteen eighty one. After four orfive starts, this young left hander by
the name of Fernando Venezuela. Peopledidn't leave their seats when he was on
the mound. It was like thefiesta here at home, and then we
saw it build up on the road. It's the same way. This is
like a traveling circus when the Ijust go on the road because people want
to see not only the Dodgers, who lead, by the way, the

(28:03):
Western Division of the National League, but they want to see Show Hey Otani
because they're hearing about him. Butnow they get a chance to see him,
and again you don't blink and youdon't leave your seat when he comes
up. Well, the traveling circusleast for Cincinnati tomorrow, Rick, hope
you're there. You'll be in theclown car. We'll be looking for you.
Okay, Thanks Rick, we'll sendit back to you in the studio.

for LA Dodgers Baseball, Dodgers Diamondbacks. On this Wednesday night, Tyler glassnow
on the mountain, leads the majorleagues in strike counts. Brandon Hughes only
he's the opener for Arizona. Firstpitch of seven ten. Dodgers Baseball is
presented by Children's Hospital LA. Whenyou need your very best care for your
child, go to Children's Hospital LosAngeles, rank number one in California for

(29:37):
pediatric care. Find the right doctorat CCHLA dot org. And now what
will likely be vast fielding insults froma Dodger player. It's an engagement of
endearments, this high end tight. It's great to be at Dodgers Stadium.
It's even better to be at DodgersStadium with one of the greatest shortstops of

(29:59):
his generation and maybe right up therein the top ten of all time,
two time batting champion, a formerDodger now the best looking guy on that
set at sportsnet LA, the starhimself. No mar Garciapara, no MA,
thanks a lot for the time yougot maybe partial right now, I
don't think I'm the best looking guyon this set. Maybe a second.
We do have John Hartung go forgetthat too. So but the other guy

(30:22):
that's next to me, absolutely, who's the guy next to you? I
don't want to mention any games, but you know what I'm talking about,
Nomar, You have such a greatperspective on the position of shortstop. You
played it your entire life. Youknow how demanding it is. You played
it at the top better than alot of guys. What are you seeing
so far from Mookie Bets. Listen, Mookie Bets is doing a fine job

(30:45):
over there as shortstop. I knowhe's so hard of himself. He has
such high expectations of himself. Butat the same time, you know,
having those high expectations great because that'swhat makes you to continue to work and
try to get better rather than thenjust be complacent. And we know one
thing MOOKI is not is complacent, that is for sure. But like I
said, he's getting the job done. He's doing a fine job. There's

(31:08):
things that he may have some miscues, but that's just due to experience,
but it has nothing to do withthe talent or nor the ability to play
at that position. It's when youwatch him as a former shortstop, I
can't say, you know what He'snot a short stop just trying to play
the position. No, he hashe has all the movement, the mannerisms.

(31:29):
You and I have talked before. You've asked me about other shortstops in
the past, and I said,no, he you know, they have
that look of a short stop.I've told you that, and I've told
you some guys that potentially like there'sshort stopped now. But I can see
those guys moving later or kind ofyou know, kind of either grown out
of the position or just don't havethe movement to last there very long.
Yeah, but MOOKI has the movements, the mannerisms and everything of a shortstop.

(31:52):
He's not one that's that. Isay, Well, he's just feeling
in right now and doing a finejob. I think with due time and
experience he'll learn some of the nuancesthat go along with it. That's maybe
some of those things where he maybelook a little bit off, or he
might have a miscue here and there, that comes with more experience rather than
ability. When you look at theway he's been able to adapt so quickly,

(32:14):
it's been only two months, andfor him to get the praise or
validation from you, what does thatsay about his athletic ability. Well,
we knew that. We know he'sa ridiculous athlete, right And like I
said, the more and more youplay with experience, you're no longer an
athlete playing shortstop, he become ashortstop and that doesn't happen overnight, you

(32:35):
know, And I think that's wherethe expectation is from. So he wants
to just be a shortstop. Hethinks it takes you know, it takes
years, not necessarily just months inorder to do that. You know.
I know when I moved over tofirst base, I knew I was a
short stop playing first base. Iwas in a first baseman and it took
me a while. I don't knowif I mean it, maybe toward the

(32:57):
end of the year, Rife kindof felt like, yeah, I'm a
first baseman, Like, you know, it took me that long. And
it goes back to being able towhere things work instinctively, where I'm not
overthinking it too much, where Ijust let the game just kind of come
and it just took time. Itwasn't anything. It wasn't for the lack
of effort. It wasn't that Iyou know what it could have happened sooner.
If I had taken a thousand moreground balls than what I did to

(33:21):
try to get some, it wasn'tthat. And hearing Mookie Betts talk about
that the other day, it soundslike you can take all the ground balls.
But it's just the game. Thegame. It's hard to duplicate.
It's hard to find these little situations. It all has to be in sync.
Because you are at shortstop as you'refielding, you're already preparing yourself for
the throw. That's the one positionin the infield where, more than anywhere

(33:44):
else, you were already preparing yourselfto throw before you even have the ball.
So it's that type of movement, that first step that all matters,
all right, No, mar thanksa lot for the time when you played.
Everybody always asked you about your family, So I gotta give a shout
out to your mom and dad. How's mom and dad doing out there?
And Whittier, you're the best,Dave. I appreciate that they are doing

(34:06):
well. I talk to them everyday. I talked to them earlier today,
so it's always good to catch upwith them, and you know what
they are doing great, you know, running around watching their grandkids. You
know do all the different activities thatthey're doing. So they're having a blast,
love it. Waiting for that inviteto Christmas Nomar. It might be
a while. Dave, thanks alot for the time. It is truly

(34:28):
special to hear you talk about theposition, So thank you. You got
it, Dave. Anytime there heis untapped resource right here. No mar
Garciapara, We'll send it back toyou in the studio. Tim, thanks
a lot. Dv one of thebest, one of the truly great guys
out there. No mar Garciapara.Dodgers Baseball's brought you by Shaky's Pizza Parlor,

your Toyota Dealers today they make iteasy. Yeah. Brandon Hughes, the
opener for the Diamondbacks, twenty eightyear old leftander, third season in the
big leagues, first with the Diamondbacks, called up tonight from Triple A to
make the start, making his fourthappearance, second start as the quote unquote
opener. Dodgers have actually seen himtwice in his three appearances of this season,
one shoutout inning in Arizona last monthand a they need in a third

(36:00):
shutout innings behind that at Chase Fieldthe next day. After Hughes Tonight,
Ryan Nelson scheduled to get the bulkof the innings. Tyler Glass now on
the mound six and two to twoninety era thirty year old right hander in
his ninth season in the Big Leagues, his first with the Dodgers. Currently
leads the major leagues with eighty onestrikeouts. He's got four double digit strikeout
games already this season. Making histenth start last time out, five innings,

(36:23):
four runs, six hits, eightstrikeouts in a loss to the Reds.
We'll face the Diamondbacks for the thirdtime in his career. Well,
he's zing two with a sixteen tosixty two ERA last Faceman twenty eighteen as
a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Two innings, allowed oneer and run and
one hit, with two strikeouts andtwo walks in a loss. So it's
Tyler Glass now on the mount forthe Dodgers. Brandon Hughes is the opener

(36:45):
for Arizona, follow by Ryan NelsonDodgers Diamondbacks. We are fifteen minutes away
from first pitch. Keys to thegame with Steven and Rick Our next on

Plan serving all Angelinos Lacare dot org. Before first pitch, we head back
out to the two guys calling thegame tonight, Rick Monday and Steven Nelson.
Guys, thank you, Tim.We're approaching first pitch in the final
game of the series, final gameof this homestand for the Dodgers, and

(37:58):
final game of a stretch of thirteengames in a row before they hit the
road, and Tyler glassnow will starttonight and try to get the pitching staff
back on track. Last night wasan aberration, Rick Monday, in the
middle or at the tail end ofwhat has been a terrific stretch for this
team. They gave up what moreruns last night than their three previous games

(38:20):
combined, and now they hand theball over to someone who has quickly become
the ace of the staff. Yeah, and I think if you look at
Glass now too, I read somethingearlier today that he was very concerned with
kind of rebounding from his last outing, really the last two outings to start
to look at it. So Idid a little deep diving on Glass.
Now, who's looking for a seventhvictory of the season. I mean,
he has really been the leader asfar as the pitching goes. And in

(38:45):
the first couple of times through alineup he has been absolutely sensational. Just
a one twenty nine average against himthe first time through an opposing lineup,
just a one ninety three through thesecond time to that lineup. Maybe a
little different story the third time throughthe lineup, because while the average is
not that high, the ERA hasgone up to just over five. But

(39:05):
this starting pitching also we continue totalk about the fact how many times they
have gone six innings or more. That has really been a boost of this
bullpen not having to be overworked. He is six and two on the year,
leading major League Baseball in strikeouts witheighty one. If you stretch that
out of over a thirty two startpace and do the math, that would
be a two hundred and fifty ninestrikeout campaign for Tyler Glass. Now,

(39:29):
I remember opening day, you andI sat in here and we talked about
him. He just brings a differentelement to this starting staff that we have
not seen in quite some time. And so he's also doing a lot of
work. I mean, career highinnings last year one hundred and twenty and
he's already halfway home to that. When he talked to opposing hitters or even
his own teammates and make their livinghitting the ball, he asked him and

(39:51):
said, well, what's it liketo face Tyler Glassnow, they use one
word a lot of them, nasty, And that's a huge compliment because his
stuff when he gets runners on scoringposition. You know, his strike at
rate is the highest in Major LeagueBaseball is starting pitching, and it's below
a one ninety batting average against. When he has runners on base that can
do some damage. There's so oftentimesan expletive before that word nasty too,

(40:15):
Tyler class. Now we'll stay withvery correct. Correct. We would like
to keep our jobs, which willbegin in a few moments. Tim Kates
when Tyler Glass now throws out thefirst pitch to Corby and Carrol, the
Dodgers trying to take the series fromthe Arizona Diamondbacks. All Right, thanks
a lot nell. You don't forgetafter the game, I'll be back with
all the postgame festivities. Dodger talkingas well, after the manager gets you
all the highlights, hopefully another Dodgerswin and extending their lead in the division,

(40:39):
and finish off his homestand on awinning note. Dodgers and Diamondbacks.
Tyler Glass now on the mountain whenwe return. I'm Tim Kates has been
