Halfway through got a full four hour show today and
at seven pm, kind of like a five hour show
because David the Assay is going to be along. As
Pitchers and Catchers reported today, spring training begins on Saturday.
We'll have our first game on February twentieth, our first
spring training contest. Yes, it feels like they just won
the World Series. They just had a parade. Dave Roberts

(01:51):
was just digging his ass into ice cubes, mid section,
kind of a new thigh right there. Felt like it
just happened. Here we are this week DV right on
the Flippityflop Pitchers and Catchers installment of Dodgers Talk coming
up in two hours at seven pm. Key k Hernandez
signed today. You won't want to miss.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
It and Dave will join us at the end of
this hour to discuss what's coming up. And tomorrow is
flexed back UCLA Illinois. Well, don't forget to follow us
on all of the proper social media applications like x

(02:33):
or Instagram. We are there, but right now it's time
for the top story of the top story of it.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Well, I was sure as s didn't do any of
it leading into the game, but considering it played out
in the manner it did. Let's recap it. Why not
a Dirk Diggler, John Travolta like entrance for Travis Kelsey
feeling like hot ass doing his tunnel walk. The opportunity
for Patrick Mahomes to cement himself and craft a legacy

(03:02):
matched by none other in the history of the Super
Bowl era, a three peat and a fourth Super Bowl
championship in five years. The stakes were incredibly high, and
considering the game played out and the manner in which
it did, why not dig in a little bit. I'm
gonna talk out of both sides of my mouth, maybe

(03:23):
as I typically do in reaction to you.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
No, not at all.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Today's hot take embrace debate society a little annoying on
this one. Prior to that one game, Mahomes was being
discussed as already supplanting Tom Brady as the goat because
Tom Brady had never won three straight Super Bowls. That
Mahomes seven consecutive appearances in the AFC Championship game, never
coming up short of that mark. Since he became a

(03:48):
full time starter in his second season, his fifth Super
Bowl potentially his fourth win, and then he went out
and played the worst game of his career. It is
now apparently impossible bull for him to ever be the
goat again. That he was outplayed by Jalen Hurts in
the Super Bowl they won. Two years ago, he was
outplayed by Tom Brady and the Tampa Super Bowl. They

(04:10):
got throttled, and he was outplayed by Jalen Hurts in
this one. And his three wins came against Brock Purty
Jimmy Garoppolo, both of which mits throws that could have
delivered San Francisco a championship and instead went to Patrick Mahos.
That's the sort of thing that's being kicked around today. Hey,
I'm hearing everything wrong about this guy.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, I'm hearing. I'm hearing it right now. I'm hearing
it right on our air.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
Does that mean he's a trash quarterback and has no
chance of ever becoming the greatest to have ever played
this game? No, It is just a reminder of how
high the bar is if you're going to chase down
Tom Brady. It is very similar to the bar. He
saw his watch, You know, I watch that kidding me,

(04:51):
wife's got a kid spit out of her. He's got
that watch X one exactly right, Lebron versus Jordan, Kobe
versus Jordan, it's just too hard. Jordan's six finals appearances,
six NBA Championships, and when you start digging into the statue,
you realize it's just truly absurd. The same goes with

(05:12):
Tom Brady. The longevity ridiculous, the fact that he went
down to Tampa to chase down one Super Bowl was
pretty freaking close to getting a second, if not for
a busted coverage on a zero blitz against the Rams
a couple of years back. But it's also important to
keep Brady in context because he went through a lull
as well. He was three and two in his first

(05:32):
five Super Bowls, and then there was a five year
stretch when the debate was just in the conversation was
Spygate deflated footballs? Maybe Tom Brady and the Patriots could
only win super Bowls if they were cheating before they
kind of found a little bit of a rhythm again
in the late teens going into that one. He also

(05:53):
won with the Buccaneers.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
The comeback.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
The difference with Brady is the comeback from down twenty
eight to three pretty much put an end to all
the nonsense and it's safe to say, trailing twenty four
zero at the half, if Mahomes was able to come
out and deliver a score on that first possession of
the second half, have the defense play well, because they
had played pretty well up to that point. Don't forget
fourteen of those twenty four were on Mahomes picked six

(06:17):
to de Gene and then the interception on that basically
it wasn't basically was back to back throws, an interception
that gave the Eagles the ball in the red zone
that turned into a touchdown. So you could have maybe
seen a potential path for Mahomes to shake off the
worst half by a quarterback in the Super Bowl era
to come back. And had he done that, the conversation
today would have been is he the greatest to have

(06:40):
ever played the game? Instead, Oh, would be so goaded
it would just be goat. It would be all goat
all day. Don't step to me, Brady, How sad are you?
You had to see it in person? Your legacy is
in tatters. Spygates, spygate, to flate gate, to flate gate,
your ex wife's spitting out a kid from a jiu

(07:00):
jitsu master.

Speaker 6 (07:02):
Crapma God, But.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
It didn't happen.

Speaker 5 (07:07):
And the other thing about the goat conversation that's coming
up now is that he was you know, zero and
two of those had to have meetings in Brady, once
in the AFC Championship and once in the Super Bowl.
He's a little aggressive probably to attack him on that front.
He's still the exact same spot, in the exact same
spot Brady was when he was thirty four. Mahomes is
only twenty nine five Super Bowl appearances, three wins, two losses,

(07:31):
two losses to dominant defensive efforts for Brady the Giants,
to losses to dominant defensive efforts of the Buccaneers and
the Eagles. It is fair, though, to say that Brady
never had an appearance like this, not like this.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Sure did not play well, he did not.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
Now, Brady did have some game manager performances, but he did.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
But he also you.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
Could make the case that even though Brady managed a
couple of games and leaned down the defense, leaned on
the running game of Corey Dillon or Kevin Folk, he
didn't nuke his team's chances with a pick six and
a Zach Bond interception immediately following the pick six, that
led to fourteen points and essentially put the game out
of reach. So here's the question about kind of where

(08:23):
do they go from here? Which is the way that's clear.
Chris Jones is old, Joe Touney is old. Travis Kelcey
is exceptionally old, and he looked really old on the bench,
like really old. Andy Reid is incredibly old. The Chiefs
have not shown the ability to draft or sign offensive

(08:43):
tackles in free agency or draft them. To say they
have been poor in that department would be a compliment.
Juwan Taylor is bad. They drafted Kingsley Suematia last year.
He was unplayable and benched and a guard had to
get kicked out because of what a disaster that was.
And that's something that's been happening from a Homes pretty

(09:04):
much his entire career. Uh, the interior of the line
was good, and it's a reminder that, you know, quarterbacks
are a product of what's in front of them, and
if you got guys in your lap every time you
take a snap, it's probably gonna be pretty hard to
do a whole lot out there. And Mahomes had to
suffer that effect when the stakes were the highest when

(09:24):
the number of eyes watching him and Taylor Swift, who
was booed mercilessly in the Superdome when she was shown
on the jumbo trunk.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Sitting next to Ice Spice. Maybe they were booing Ice Spice.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Is that what you think they're not saying boo Ashley,
They're saying Sooners is what they're doing.

Speaker 6 (09:46):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
They were attacked over and over and over again by
Vic Vanhooing that Eagles defense, and there was nothing the
Chiefs could do about it. As brilliant a play caller
as Andy Reid is, you would have thought there would
have been a little more adjustment. There was chasing and
the whole time Mahomes was getting absolutely teed off on
and to hear the chief screaming yell about the lack

(10:07):
of calls the hands to the face on that fourth
down is pretty rich, considering the first flag thrown in
the game would have given the Eagles a first and
ten in the red zone, where it not for a
BS offensive PI call that was flagged that many thought
was going to set the tone for the contest, but
thankfully didn't. It's a team that has spent a lot
of money. They don't have a lot of money for
free agency. It's why they've been making these trades. It's

(10:29):
why they're putting band aids with players like Kareem Hunt,
Noah Gray and DeAndre Hopkins and Juju Smith Schuster. And
yet still it's crazy to write them off and suggests
that somehow this is the end of the dynasty. Yeah,
it's a team that's going to have a lot of
questions in the offseason. One of their best defensive players,
Nick Bolton, is going to be a free agent. Arguably
their best offensive lineman, Trey Smith, the guard, is going

(10:51):
to be a free agent. Can they keep them both?
Can they keep one? Probably going to be a long
shot considering what the market is for each of those
positions now where you could maybe get those guys on
the cheap and interior offensive linemen and off the ball linebacker.
But those markets have really grown the last couple of years,
as evidence by the year that Zach Bond put together
where he certainly should have got more consideration for the

(11:13):
defensive Player of the Year and really put it on
display in the postseason. But you know, the pile on
Patrick Mahomes, I guess what people want to point to
is in the Super Bowls that he was blown out.
So much of it's put on the offensive line and
how nobody could have possibly operated behind that, And you've
got to cut the guy some slack. That was the
case yesterday, and you know there's still decision making and

(11:35):
still bad decisions that were made. There were drops, the
pocket was breaking down, but he did miss throws and
the two interceptions were squarely on him.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
So for they burned a bunch of Kermit the frogs
in Philadelphia, which is upsetting to them. That's they hung
one in Buffalo, very upsetting, very upsetting. So maybe that
was it.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
Maybe it was the piece on the dadbod making a
comeback in GQ, I don't know. Maybe it was the
wife doing an SI swimsuit layout.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
He was the Taylor Swift Travis Kelcey check out my
super sweet tunnel walk outfit. Does it remind you of anything?
Aren't I cool?

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Maybe?

Speaker 5 (12:11):
I don't know, but it's safe to say it feels
like everybody's happy, save the Chiefs fans, that it ended
the way it did, And that says something because Philadelphia
fans are some of the most hateable. I mean absolutely hateable,
obnoxious sect of individuals. I've never heard it for an organization,

(12:33):
yet we all got behind them, and it's a reminder
that it's a team. You know, you talk about it
all the time. Circumstance, they drafted Jalen Hurts about twelve
months after they had just made Carson Wentz the highest
paid quarterback in the league, and he was coming off
an MVP caliber season two years prior, and everyone's like,
what the hell are you doing with his Hurts guy?
He was the fifth quarterback drafted, after Joe Burrow, who

(12:55):
has made a Super Bowl but unfortunately lost that Super Bowl.
He's been in multiple AFC Championship games. They drafted him
after Tua, who has been a serious concussion risk, has
had some solid moments in the regular season zero success
in the playoffs. Behind Justin Herbert, who's been an exceptional
regular season quarterback, one of the most gifted, talented physical
specimens playing the position, but is zero and two in

(13:17):
the postseason and is coming off a four interception game
in the playoffs in which his team was favored. And
Jordan Love, who had won magical eight game stretch and
a postseason win in Dallas before seriously regressing this year,
and Hertz was taken after all of those guys in
the second round. After being a winner in Alabama, a

(13:38):
winner in Oklahoma, Heisman Trophy guy, and now been to
two Super Bowls and ends up winning one, including an MVP.
And there's no question that he played well enough in
the other Super Bowl for the Eagles to have won
him delivering over a thirty point performance, and he would
have won the MVP in that contest. And again, it's

(13:59):
like I said something you always say. Circumstance. He's on
the perfect team with a massive offensive line, and he
coach that likes to let him run around.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
He could say he was that in Alabama and Kahoma
as well. You know, you surround this guy with really
good players. He gets you in and out of the huddle.
He's a good leader, He protects the football, he runs well,
and he throws. He spreads the EyeBlack on his prominent
cheek bones beautifully, and he throws the ball well enough.

(14:27):
If you get some really good wide receivers out there
and threaten people with the best running back in the NFL,
he's good enough to beat you with his arm in
that way. So Yeah, Well, it's impressive to see the
team they built top to bottom, and he's just part
of it, you know, I mean, he's a big part
of it. But it ain't Joe Montana, it ain't Mahomes,
it ain't Brady No. And that's incredibly rare.

Speaker 5 (14:49):
We talk about it, you know, we don't talk about it,
but a lot of people talk about coach quarterback. It's
a coach quarterback league. And Mahomes and Andy Reid had
that advantage in Spain over Nick Siriani and Jalen Hurts.
And yet the team they built, Howie Roseman, the coaches
that they hired, the fact that Nick Siriani, even though
he's a bit of a meathead goof and found himself

(15:11):
in some trouble starting with his weird presser, followed by
screaming and yelling at fans, followed by the Aj Brown
versus Jalen Hurts story line.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
You can forgive all those things, Matt. Listen to the mayor.
I mean, she's a brilliant lady.

Speaker 6 (15:27):
Gee, let's go forard.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
It's a great point.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
Hey, let's follow our leaders, especially our local politicians.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
But they won.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
They dominated the last two rounds of the playoffs, outscoring
their opponents by fifty points. Should have been more of
the Chiefs got a bunch of garbage touchdowns there. Late,
Sirianni let Kellen Moore run the offense, he let Vic
Fangio run the defense, and he's gonna get a nice
fat extension and a bump in his seven million dollars
per year head coaching salary. It's one of the youngest
teams in the league, it's one of the best, if

(15:59):
not the best roster on paper, and there's no reason
to think they can't do it again next year. So
what does it mean for our teams in town? Well,
I'd say pretty good news for both. The Rams traded
blows with the Eagles. They played them the best out
of any team in the postseason. Dam near snuck that
thing out, got to win and would have hosted the
Commanders in the NFC Championship game.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
And they were.

Speaker 5 (16:18):
Absolutely good enough to beat a Super Bowl champion that
throttled the two time defending Kansas City Chiefs. Just for
the Chargers, it's right there. Both of their games were
single score both of them. They had leads in the
fourth quarter, and you can see what the blueprint is
build up your lines, protect Herbert, run the ball, get
after the quarterback, particularly on that interior. And that's something

(16:41):
that they've done in Spurts and that they built a
team around. That's the identity kind of this team, and
if they can do it, then maybe it's in their future.
The Rams, of course, have to contend with Kelly Stafford
and whatever the hell her problem is about how she
doesn't want to put up with this even though she
loves La. The Chargers have sixty five million bucks to
been in free agency and they're gonna have to hope
there's some people out there that want to take their

(17:03):
money get another good draft. It was a blowout. People
were bored. They were more excited about Kendrick Lamar at
halftime than the game itself. But I completely and thoroughly
enjoyed every second of it.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
The game, not the halftime thing. Well the halftime was
cool too, but you.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
Know, the game not racist. I hope you'll think of
I hope you know. We'll be right back with mar
Great Sports talking to the flip. Top story of the
day coming up.

Speaker 6 (17:28):
Next, Go un till seven, about an hour and a
half left.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Then David Ivasse will be along.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
He'll join us in the next seven give you a
preview of what's coming up at seven pm tonight, and
then the play by play resumes tomorrow. Early one will
be on a two two to four thirty going into
UCLA basketball Big Ten in Champagne, Illinois, taking on the
Alion I trying to extend this win streak as they
make their way toward the end of the regular season,
the Big Ten Tournament, and of course the NC Tournament

(18:00):
that on Wednesday. We'll have some Clipper basketball to get to.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
That's right, Matt. And before we go any further, you know,
you brought it up a little bit. Uh, this is
a one of the headlines moment. I have another story
from Matt that is something that he can look into.
But what are the headlines?

Speaker 2 (18:17):
What should the headline be today sports? That's all we
think about. Here's the story nobody's talking about.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
You know, I'm not a racist.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
I mean, he's a bad headline.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
What are the headlines? And no, Matt, I wanted to
do it, but like that, like Caitlin Jenner on a cameo,
I'm not gonna sing, I'm not gonna do it. I'm
not gonna.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Happy booth I'm not gonna do it.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
I won't. I won't read a bunch of Taylor Swift
headlines for you. I won't do it. And I won't
even get deep into what Travis Kelcey you mentioned it
in the last segment, was wearing for his tunnel walk
as the postgame Walk of shame, looking a little bit
like this so good, a little bit of an extra
in Eddie Murphy's Harlem Nights. And he brought back the uh,

(19:02):
the brooch. You know that Ryan Clark brooch is getting
to be a little prevalent, you know, with a lot
of different guys.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
I like that brooch thing you got going there, RC,
I like it.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
What happened to my brooch? It's no longer stuck to
my jacket after I got no catches and my teams
humiliate kind of you know what. He kind of looked like, Matt.
He kind of looked like the camel Wides guys. Remember
the campon call.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Remember camel Wides the advertising campaign for the It's a
good call. A little bit of a mobster look to him.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
These cigarettes are way better for you because they blew
more tobacco into your lungs. Because they're so goddamn, why.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Wrap your mouth to run an exhaust pipe. Let's go.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Anyway, tough loss with the Chiefs. It's good chee. They're
still great. Like you said, Matt, you know it just
ran into the raucous, uncouth Philadelphia buzz song and didn't
adjustin lost. I won't get you say, let's go cheese.
Praddy Quinn said it, you at it. The Eagles are
killers of dynasties. But Matt, this was what really blew

(20:04):
my mind, because it's one thing to dress up like
a camel wide and lose the game and wear your
brooch and have your hair be all weird. But Travis
Kelcey's ex are you aware of this?

Speaker 4 (20:17):
Woman?

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Completely unaware? I was like, who is this?

Speaker 3 (20:20):
You don't know who Travis Kelsey's ex is. She's semi famous.
Her name is Cayla Nicole. She's a YouTuber. She is
an alumna of your alma mater. She went to Pepperdine. Oh,
oh my god, she went to pe yeh. She went
to pep Uh. She cheered, she went. She was at

(20:43):
the game dressed neutrally, but when the Eagles won, she
jumped on the Eagles bandwagon and cheered with the Eagles
fans in New Orleans after and during the Super Bowl,
and she wrote on Instagram, there's room on the band, y'all,
and many are taking it as a jab against Kelsey,

(21:07):
who dumped Kayla Nicole last year. To date the polarizing
stork Taylor Swift, Kayla Nicole Matt is thirty three years old.
She doesn't like to call herself a wag because she
said when she was dating Kelsey, she didn't call herself
a wag, which is wives and girlfriends, because she said, uh, doctors,

(21:29):
wives don't call themselves dagsags. Doctors and girlfriends.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
Yeah, it's like it's still wives and girlfriends. They would
still be wags. They would just be wags of doctor yours.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
You got to be the dumbest person I've ever.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Oh that's that Pepperdine.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Education's no, no, anyway, she seems pretty bitter. Uh, but
you know what, she was Kelsey's wag for five years,
Matt GeSe. It's not like she just tumbled in the
hay with him for a few months, you know, in
the brick building in Kansas City and then.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
I mean those influencers typically have a shelf life of
like three to five months.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
We've talked to Eric Dickerson, but Barstool Sports alleges that
Kelsey made her pay for half of everything and was
super cheap back in the day with her, and maybe
that was some tension in their relationship.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
What a weirdo.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
But good luck to everybody in the offseason, especially your Chargers.

Speaker 7 (22:25):
She even got on the field last night after the
game and was picking up the confetti from the Eagles
and just throwing around.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Yeah and saying, you know, get on the bandwagon, y'all,
like dogson around like really like she enjoying the Chiefs
failure even more than Matt Undy smell in the last segment.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Not possible.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
I mean that really is something though. I mean a
real bitter lady. But five years is a long time. Now,
I gave you the best years of my life and.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
My ass that's fair point.

Speaker 7 (22:54):
You know, five years you get to know Donna Kelsey
very well, right, you know, Holiday spent a lot.

Speaker 5 (23:01):
Of Casey Kelsey Jason's wife. Yeah, your wife great, yeah,
exactly with podcasts.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Talked about gender neutral names for their new kid, you know,
with the Kelsey's all kinds of stuff like really mixing
it up with the family really mixing it up in Cincinnati.
Sweet all right, Matt, Well that's uh. We'll keep an
eye on Kayla Nicole in the off season. But good
luck to everybody in the off season as we say
goodbye to NFL football. Uh, next thing for you is this,

(23:28):
Matt Minor sports stories for great sports talk right out?

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Light Uh play funk.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
Lights out, that too, play some funk. I tell you
that's not that's not for me, but I need something
funk here. Fuck Okay, lights out, Matt. Now, Matt, you
love I mean you love your Indonesian East Asian movie.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
In style, very true. And I got a story for
you fresh.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
From Sri Lanka, okay, which is kind of like India,
but an island. There was a national power outage on
Super Bowl Sunday at eleven a. A national power outage
in Sri Lanka on Sunday at eleven am. Now, how
many people live in Sri Lanka? Twenty two million people.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
That's a whole lot.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
That's a lot. Actually it's quite a few.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
Oh my god, ton, So how many.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
People live on this tropical Oh god, it's a lot.
It took a couple hours to restore power but we're
not talking about like, oh, you know, we got a
little power outage on a few streets here in Torrance.
We're talking about the whole country went down. The country's

(25:00):
energy minister, Kumara Jayakuda said, and this was the absolute
official explanation. A monkey came into contact with our grid transformers,
causing an imbalance in our system. A monkey took a

(25:21):
nation's electricity down. A local newspaper said, it was actually
a group of fighting monkeys.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
Wow, they're ready for the fight.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
It makes more sense. And you might be surprised to know, Matt,
that Sri Lanka's power grid is often criticized and compromised
and not strong. And we of course all know that
monkeys do cause problems. That goes without saying. All you
have to do is crack a Curious George book to

(25:51):
know the kind of part problems monkeys cast. And I
don't think in this situation there's going to be like
a resolution where Curious George learns his lesson and the
man with the yellow hat picks up the fighting monkeys
and they never electrocute themselves again. I don't think that's
going to happen. Man, Now, just browsing Sri Lanka. They

(26:14):
do have a lot of problems with their economy. There's
a tsunami that killed a bunch of people, like thirty
thousand people there this century, some terrible bombings, political bombings
that took place. But they also have leopards, elephants, and
many elusive rare birds, including the green build kaw kaw

(26:37):
and as you always like to look for, Matt, the
very elusive red faced ma Alcona.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Love that, but Matt.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Sri Lanka, as I looked into it, and I thought
this would be great for Matt, because it's only a
matter of time that you're going to become fatigued and
tired of your surf break.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
You're going to be tired of your of your of your.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Bolsa Chica, even your San Onofrie or San oh as
you like to call it for the locals, you know,
and up and down, you know, wherever you are in California,
You're gonna grow tired of that, and you're gonna become
one of these surf trip guys. You're gonna want to
go to Malaysia. Yeah, Fiji, all these places are waiting

(27:22):
for you with their rolling waves, with the Goodbye Ceremony
and the Leaves and All, and has two different surf
hubs that offer opposing surf seasons. It has warm water,
and it's quite easy to navigate a tuk tuk driver,

(27:45):
which is the easiest way to get to the beach.
It looks like a fun time and you can't surf
in Austin.

Speaker 5 (27:53):
Matt, No, I've checked a lot of crackheads right outside
my tell. But outside of that.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
Yeah, Austin's really in the one place in Texas other
than deep Element that really lets itself go, you know.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
What I mean, A lot of crack that's already saw
a fight.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
So Matt, maybe a little trip to Sri Lanka is
in your like if you had one surf like, I'm
not talking about Hawaii either, Matt, Like, if you're gonna
go somewhere where a monkey might grab your sack? Yeah,
who's tickling my sack? Oh god, it's that monkey. It's
a cheechy monkey. Uh where would you go, Matt? Would

(28:36):
you right now say shells?

Speaker 5 (28:40):
I'd probably go. Uh, Tavarua right now would be my
what's tavar rua?

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Matt, why don't you tell everybody how smart.

Speaker 3 (28:45):
And cool it is.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
That's the that's the South Pacific.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
So yes, it's a similar, uh you know, similar to
kind of what it's Fiji. It's it's it's Fiji. It's Tabarroo,
it's its own island. It's private. You you book like
the uh the hotel there, and they've got that little
boats that will drive you out to the to the
waves and yeah, surrounded by a coral. It's reef. Yes,

(29:14):
it is a it is a reef.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Breakst annual professional surfing competitions.

Speaker 5 (29:19):
Yes, maybe you couple famous, couple famous waves that people
talk about. Cloud Break is the is the big one
that a lot of people get excited.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
It has surfing, sport, fishing, scuba, snorkeling, kayaking. There's a pool,
a spa, a workout facility, and a tennis court and
two bars.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
But no monkeys that could buy my balls.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
You know, I'm not sure about that. Probably totally monkeys.
In fact, I could almost guarantee.

Speaker 5 (29:44):
You yeah, you're probably right, and they would get after
my balls.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
Oh every time, Matt, because your sacks look like two
big almonds. All right, we'll be back.

Speaker 5 (29:54):
We've been working on making a more sphracle though. I've
really been working on it. It's not easy.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
David massell us in the very next segment and we
will discuss all the latest moves with the Dodgers, including
Key k Hernandez being a Dodger and far Hans Aedi
being back under the Dodger umbrella.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
What does that mean? Radio app?

Speaker 5 (30:22):
You don't have to be near in AM radio in
order to hear the show live. You can do it
through the iHeartRadio app. Just pop that AM five seven
e LA Sports button and you will get the Petros
and Money Show live on a stream. Anything you miss
you can always get with PMS on demand. Go ahead

Speaker 3 (30:40):
All right, David Vasse coming up at seven, but he's
on with us right now, the Home of.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
The Dodgers with an inside look at the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
This is the Vass Report with David Vasse. David Vasse
has already poked his head out on social media today,
call it out San Francisco's KNBR the Sports Leader for
being salty about far Han Zaidi going back to the Dodgers,
which is where he got started on the West Coast.

(31:12):
But either way, David Bass hero to all of us
and Dodger legendary reporter joining us right now in your
Southern California Toyota Dealer celebrity hotline. You see Dave on
Spectrum sports Net MLB TV, but he carries the baton,
the blue Dodger baton here on the radio. What's cracking, Dave?
How are you?

Speaker 8 (31:33):
I'm doing great? No hangover after the Super Bowl and
I have a David Bass say, doubleheader tonight for Dodger Baseball.
Oh yeah, sports net LA at six o'clock and at
seven o'clock I'll put on those headsets and broadcast Dodger
talk from the green room at sports Net LA.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
So the big story with the Dodgers over the weekend
is keyk Is That? Is that correct? Dave? It not
like they had to wait until the season started or
wait till in the middle of the summer to bring
him in for October.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
He's going to be there for the long haul.

Speaker 8 (32:10):
Yeah, it'll be sooner than it was last year. If
you remember, you're a week or two of games. So
that's part of the reason why it's a lot sooner
timing than it was a year ago. And kind of
off guard. Make that announcement on social media just a
couple of hours before the Super Bowl starts. I felt

(32:31):
like today he could have got more out of it
if you would have announced it today.

Speaker 5 (32:36):
Dave kind of walk us through the sort of the
difference with Key K. You know why the regular season
looked the way it did, why the postseason looked the
way it did, And that's kind of been a theme
in his career, right.

Speaker 8 (32:49):
Well, you got to take into account the fact that
k K doesn't play every day. It's a lot, it's
challenging to come off the bench and play sporadically. You're
not gonna have the best in numbers when you do that.
But when the postseason rolled around, that's when he got
his opportunity to shine and play every day. And if

(33:10):
it wasn't for that Miguel Rojas hernia injury, you know
who knows the way the Dodgers postseason goes. Because once
the Dodgers conceded that Rojas was injured and put key
K Hernandez in the starting lineup and moved Tom y
Edman to shortstop, all of a sudden, the Dodgers' postseason

(33:30):
fortunes took off and we got to see Key k
Hernandez in October every game. So that's the difference why
the numbers are always a little skewed.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
Well, Matt's not the only one that's right about everything
all the time, Dave. Here's you with Andrew Friedman just
a few weeks ago, when everybody was closing the door
on Key k Hernandez coming back to the Dodgers.

Speaker 9 (33:51):
Yeah, I mean, I don't think the door's ever closed
on Key k That being said, it doesn't mean that
it will necessarily work out. But we've required heard him
a lot of different times, and through trades and free agency,
you know, twice through trade, and you know, I don't
know how it'll play out. We'll never close the door
on him, but you know, if he does sign somewhere

(34:13):
else and hopefully we'll have a chance to trade for
him or whatever. But the most important thing is for
he and his family. We want them to make the
best decision for them and whatever that means. And obviously
we're biased and we hope it means us. But we'll
see how that plays out.

Speaker 8 (34:30):
And one thing I could tell you as far as
the negotiations go between the Dodgers and Key k Ornandez,
I was told the Dodgers have had this offer on
the table for Kik for the better part of a month,
and they were just trying to figure out, you know,
the roster mechanisms, pictures and catchers. Reporting today they can
start putting guys on the sixty day IL tomorrow. And

(34:53):
also the fact that Key k had offers from the
or interest from the He's in Texas Rangers as.

Speaker 5 (35:01):
Well, Dave, he mentioned it at the start. Far Han
brought back announcement made over the weekend. You know, Andrew
Friedman regularly praises Brandon Gomes how important he is the
entirety of the front office. Like, take us through how
important far Han was, or at least what his role

(35:21):
was in building this team the years he was here
before he left to go up to the Giants. And
how you suspect Andrew Friedman's gonna use him or lean
on him moving forward?

Speaker 8 (35:32):
Yeah, Well, far Han and Andrew Friedman had a very
good dynamic, right far Hank could push back on Andrew
if he felt like whatever he was thinking wasn't the
right answer. And I thought that's why those two works
so well with each other now in this role, completely
different than the way it was before if you read

(35:54):
those reports. He's an advisor to the Dodgers, but he's
also going to be working with Mark Walter in his
other business ventures in sports, so he's going to be
in house. He's a resource, but he's not specifically dedicated
to the baseball operations of the Dodgers. It's not exactly

(36:14):
the same situation, But the closest thing I could compare
it to is when Farhan was Andrew's GM and Alex
Anthopolis came in for a period of time, a soft landing,
if you will, for a couple of years until he
landed the GM job. But this seems to be a
lot more dynamic of a role than just baseball when

(36:36):
you include being an advisor to Mark Walter and his
other sports ventures.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
David Besse is our guest at the Real Underscore DV.
You can see him on Spectrum Sportsnet tonight and you
can hear him on Dodger Talk tonight. And the Dodgers
are going to Tokyo and that date is getting closer.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
I'm sure you're thrilled.

Speaker 8 (36:58):
Please don't remind everybody, Petros. I don't need another call
from five people that are the experts in Japan living well.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
I mean I was going to ask a more general question, Dave.
Since you've been to Australia with the team, and you've
been to Korea with the team, it seems just like
an enormous pain in the ass that everybody just has
to tolerate because it's their job and the promotion of
the league. How much grumbling is there behind the scenes?

Speaker 8 (37:28):
Actually, Petro's a lot less than a year ago, and
a lot less than before the Dodgers went to Australia.
I think everybody's really excited to go to a great city,
a great country, and more importantly, to experience the Otani
factor in his home country. So there's a lot more excitement,
a lot more hangers on trying to get on the

(37:50):
flight to go to Tokyo, Japan. So even a swarmy
marketing guy Dave wee s has finageled his He he's
going to hide in the wheel.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
He's gonna hide in the wheel.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
Well Stoway stowaway.

Speaker 8 (38:02):
Not he's got a fly commercial. I mean, he cannot
find his way on that plane, but he's gonna fly commercially.
He's going to be hopefully not polluting the streets of Tokyo.
But yeah, people like that that have tried to find
their way on this trip for shame.

Speaker 5 (38:19):
Last thing for me, Dave, the Padres, the wildly disappointing
offseason they have had and their fan fest where I
don't know who that dude was that was taking shots
at the Dodgers or thoughts of him saying that our
fans have class up north, they got no class.

Speaker 8 (38:40):
Well, I've never heard of him either. Money. I only
saw the great Manny Machado speak with a lot of class.
I didn't see anybody else. But it's a sad Diego
off season for the Padres and their fans because all
they've done is sign to Dodger retreads and Jason Hayward

(39:01):
and Connor Wong. Those are the two big pickups in
sad Diego this offseason.

Speaker 5 (39:07):
Wow's Sad Diego.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
Tonight, Enjoy TV and radio with the great David Vasse,
a Los Angeles sports conglomerate.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Have a great night, Dave, and we'll talk to you soon.
Have a great show.

Speaker 8 (39:23):
Thank you, guys, appreciate it. I'm combating Luca with World
Series MVP Freddie Freeman tonight at seven thirty oh.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
When you went to the Laker game the other day.
Did you know that Luca and Lebron weren't playing or
did you just show up.

Speaker 8 (39:39):
After I got the tickets? Because the sideline reporter for
T and T during the Clipper games said like ten
times Luca's playing on Saturday, and then on the Thursday
broadcast pretended like he never said that. He's all oh
Luca on Monday.

Speaker 5 (39:56):
At that guy whatever, man, you got to see Austin
re He was in his sweet hair style.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
You know that floppy hair lit.

Speaker 8 (40:03):
Joseph didn't care about that. He wanted to leave him
the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
Oh no, give me out of the hair.

Speaker 8 (40:09):
So we got to meet Adam Kennedy ALCS MVP. Joseph
met Adam Kennedy at halftime.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
Very strong, very strong. Well you got that going? Uh
the great David Bess seven o'clock. I have a great night, Dave,
and we'll be back with more great sports taco, a
whole other hour of great sports Talker. We'll hear from
the Man of the Hour, Bill McDonald calling the Luca
debut in Laker UNI tonight. You don't want to miss that.

(40:37):
He's a real wacky stoner type. That's true.
