Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joseph Gamon the outside. Why keeping eye on him? Number three?
One of those linebackers likes to float around like coach
talked about covering up the offensive live a handoff Paying.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Left side and he hit a wall. Was dropped.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Nice tackle that time by the will linebacker. He's a
sophomore number ten for Ported Central. That's Brady Buttnam.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Boy, that was one on one in the hall right there.
It was Brady Puttnam versus Pain there and boy man,
he stuck him really good. And Byron Center just went
back to their traditional what we call buck sweet play,
pulling both guards. That is the bread and butter the
Byron Center offense right there and Puttnham stuck him in
the hole right there. But again it's fourth and three,
very manageable. And I'll give you one.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Guess who's gonna get the football on this play?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Look familiar?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Remember last time they went Cam Payne wildcat.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
This time white shirts.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
They stay in there with Paying to his right, one
on receiver each way. Fourth and two from the thirty
six handoff Pain, he's not gonna get there once again.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
And guess who the.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Guy who's going to Minnesota Charlie Jill like making the
stop short.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Now a penalty flight came out late.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Their coach. Oh, let's see what this all about. Jillik
was pretty excited after the stop.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I don't think he did anything taunting wise, I.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Don't think so, but I think it's gonna be after
the play regardless if that's what it is. I mean,
that flag did look to come out a little bit late,
but right there, giving them all to pain and like
it looked like a zone play. They didn't pull anybody,
and they just thought that they could maybe get the edge.
Couldn't get the edge, and boy Charlie Gillett came in
and met him in the whole. Very impressive play by
the Port Central defense.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Let's see as we're awaiting the word from the official.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Oh, so it is against Ported Central, but after the stop,
so they will get the ball back, But then they're
gonna move him back fifteen yards. Unnecessary roughness against the Mustang.
So Mick Anders won't be happy with that. He likes
to run a discipline ship. But the second time that
the defense in their own territories come up with a
stop on fourth down, that's big. As the Mustangs get
(01:54):
it back now eight nothing up on Byron center.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah, and if they can put together a drive here,
it's almost gonna feel like almost an insurmountable type of lead,
just because of the way that defense is playing and
how well that offense played.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
On the first drive, Jacob Bennis, big wide receiver number seventeen,
a senior, split wide left on first and ten. They
worked for the right hash handoff to their big fella,
Kevin no Way, the sophomore, and he plows forward behind
that offensive line to the twenty five yard line. Two
good offensive lines going up against solid defensive lines. Tonight
gain of three sets up second and seven, and coach
(02:26):
talk about this a little bit, the frustrating part on
defense of when portage central team like that gets the
leader a wing T team and they come over, they
take a lot of time between plays, right, it's frustrating.
You want to play fast, don't you.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
You do?
Speaker 3 (02:37):
You want to play fast, and then you see that
quarterback jogging to the sideline. They're staying on schedule. Gaining
three yards on first down. Here we go on second down,
and here's that negative play that you've been looking for.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
You great job, bloom Quist.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
That time they tried to go from left to right
counteraction and Byron Center was all over it. Two guys
in the hole. Van Damn is one of those guys
that we talked about. But also over there was number
fifty four first and that is Cooper Hickson, the senior
d line.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, and you know, and that's this is not where
ported Censu wants to be with their offense. Third and
seven plus right here. Gotta think McNally's gonna go to
the air first time. We might see a pass here,
but nice job by the Byron Center defense and get
him behind the sticks.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
He is capable at six foot six a pitcher for
the baseball team. Now he keeps it himself. Nice play
fake that time, faking it to no way to Ron
left dead. He's got the first down with those big
strides out across the thirty three to the thirty four.
And what did Mark Cisco say? He said, he's not
gonna wow you with his skill set as a quarterback.
Maybe not the most athletic, but he gets the job
(03:33):
done and you want him on your team.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
And here I am saying they're gonna throw the football.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
What do they do?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
They run their triple option play on third and seven.
Their bread and butter he pulls it. McNally pulls it,
kind of fakes like he's gonna pitch it, gets vertical,
gets just enough for a first.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Down first in ten working for their own thirty four
two wide receiver split wide, Jilli kind of out there
to get the edge. Gets a pancake block as they
go wide again. And that was the guy who had
the big run in the first series, Wendell Tomas positive
got ite across the forty and close to that first
down marker all the way out to the forty three
yard line. That's been troublesome for this Byron center defense.
(04:08):
And I tell you a great seal block on the
edge by the tight end Gillick.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, it's nice when you have a tight end like Jillick,
who's you know, committed to a Division one school in
the University of Minnesota. Right there, but I mean, you
see just just this, they're staying with their offense, just
a traditional rocket toss sweep right there and gaining nine yards.
You know, this last couple of times have been interior
INTI your triple option, hit the edge, gain nine yards,
and you.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Know what, run out the first quarter with the lead.
I know that's gotta make bick enders happy. After the
last two years against Byron Cent in the playoffs, they
haven't gotten off to a good start. They do now
after one quarter of play here from mccambley Field in
Portage our score Portage Central eight Byron Center or nothing.
We'll come back with second quarter action as you're listening
to drive to Ford Field presented by Vandalion Home Improvement
(04:51):
here on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
Inside that I six one studios. Take a look at
the Myers scoreboard.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
In Division one, Rockford gets a touchdown score from Hearn
to kick a seventh to nothing. Leave early in the
first quarter and n Division three is even West up
early eight nothing on Saint Joe, guys, Joe.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Appreciate that wrapper Radio scoreboard update brought to you by
Rapid Ray, the only nationwide walkie talking with no monthly fee.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Over the top taking their shot.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
And they got a guy dropping in the bucket and
it's complete to take a bette squat to throw that
time by McNally between the two safeties. He hauls it in,
is dragged down inside the BC twenty down to the
eighteen yard line.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
You know, And it was just a straight drop back pass,
no play action two in or anything short motion by
the running back. He takes a three step drop and
hits the post over the middle between both safeties of
Byron center. Boy, that was a nice toss and Brett,
you're right, he's got a great arm, baseball kid, and
he did drop it in the bucket for a huge
game in first down.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Into the red zone again, already up eight to nothing,
he ported central threatening first and ten for the BC
eighteen right for the middle of the field. Two waters
to the right handoff knowing the big fellow breaks tackle
inside the ten. Five touchdown Kevin no Way, excuse me,
Cam Noay, the sophomore number four, his first rushing touchdown.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Of the night.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Boy, he's just a good looking kid. They ran the
inside trap that time, first time they've run that today,
pulled the guard, kicked out the three technique of Byron
centers right there and he literally went in untouched from
twenty yards out. And he looks like.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
A big bodied wide receiver, kind of a different frame
for running back, but he is tough in there, I
mean compared to like a campaign we talked about other
backs we've seen the West Mischian area but boy, when
he gets free in that full back position, I don't
know if you're gonna run him down from behind.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
The level of athleticism is incredible.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
The ones for two hand off to bloom Quist, they
go counteraction, I don't know if bloom Quiss got they're
gonna mark him short. So good job of the BC
defense coming up with a stop. And I think it
was big number six tape Baindridge coming up off the
bottom of that pile.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Yeah, A little surprised by that call there on the
two point play, kind of going into the interior. Last
time they ran triple out option and he really walked
in untouched, trying to get a little counteraction and up
fourteen to nothing here. But man, you go up sixteen nothing,
You're looking at like two scores with two to two
point conversions.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
But it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
And coach Andrews, man, I know he's not pleased about
that one right there, but he's got.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
To be pleased with the start of his team there tonight.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
So eleven twenty seven left to go here first half,
we'll keep it right here for this kickoff. Port in
central making a statement up fourteen to nothing on Byron center.
Two impressive drives ending with touchdowns. The only thing they've
missed is that last two point conversion, and don't forget
to stay with us at halftime for more scores from
Joe and our crew, plus a live game report you
(07:37):
just earned. Rockford up seven to nothing early on Hudsonville.
Our own Rick Burkey is out of the studio and
out of the press box in Hudsonville Eagles Stadium to
watch that one. He'll join Joe Ayer with a live
report from that game coming up in the Hohlst Jepson
Physical Therapy, A halftime show brought to you by Hulst
Jepson Physical Therapy. Tonight's players have worked hard to get
their bodies in shape and ready to go for competition.
(07:58):
Hohlst Jepson Physical Therapy wants them to stay in the
game no matter what. Restoring body, reviving spirit. That's Holst
Jepson Physical Therapy. Nathan Hope, the Senior approaching to kick
it away this time from left to right in your
radio dial, Low squibber having trouble field and it finally
picks up inside the fifteen, coming nearside twenty five and
screwed it out to about the twenty eight yard line
(08:20):
up from the JV Gavin Millwerd. This is a promising
young running back, the sophomore on the kid return. I'm
sure his eyes got wide there is he just tried
to get up fielding. A nice job out to the
twenty dollars will be first and ten Bulldogs there.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
And this is a big series here, Brett. I mean,
if you think about it, obviously they've done a great
job driving the football. They haven't had to punt the football,
but they've done a great job driving it and getting
into ported central territory in their first two possessions. But
being down fourteen nothing right here, this feels like the
drive of the game.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Nolan Bloomquist won to watch back there, just kind of
cleans everything up in the safety position in the middle
of the field. First down in ten, they go Niel
and trying to go wide. Here comes the safety up
and spin it out of a tackle. Knelan nice job
searching forward making something out of nothing to the.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Thirty four yard line.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Pretty good defensive integrity over there on the far side.
And second and six after a gate of four by
Kneeling on the Jets sweep coming up for the Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah, I really like that. I mean the defense is
doing a really nice job because both guards pulled toward
the short side of the field and they gave it
on the jet streep going to the white side of
the field. Good job by the defense, whatever their key
may be, to get to the football.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Carter Huddick also back there as a cornerback to the
wide side. Second and six had off Pain picking his
way and he's got a first down out.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Across the forty.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Boy, he just shows you that little burst and he's
got quick feet for a big guy out across the
forty one to the forty two yard line, first to
dead after a game of eight quick.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Quick feet and really good vision by Pain.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Just to see on that Bucks sweep play, you got
one guard kicking out, you got one guard leading. You
really got to kind of feel your way behind that
second guard, and boy did a nice job just kind
of keeping his hand behind that second guard and just
man just taking a step to the outside and get
some extra yardage.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Keep an eye at number three.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
He's why did the slot left for eastern whiteses first
and ten whites looking his way. They give a lot
of cushion complete at Schwartz across the forty five and
out to the fifty yard line. Colebd over there to
make the stop. Also defensively for Ported Central was Colin Steele,
the sophomore.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah, and again just taking what the defense has given
them when that cover three look again, just running the hitch,
straight drop back pass, running the five yard stop. The
receiver catches it, turns to the outside, gets what he
can get right there. And really, I mean, this has
been the story of the game right here is Byron
Center has moved that football and it's just been as
they get into Ported Central territories where they've faltered.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Senior Marcellus Vance number five, flip wide to the right,
Tilma comes in to give Schwartz a breather. On second
and short for the midfield stripe head off Pain right side,
found his tacklers and nothing doing.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
He tried to reverse field and.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
He just ran into a wall of blue as coming
up off the bottom of that pile. Colin Steele, how
about the big fellow we talked about him earlier in
Jayden Lefew.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Yeah, just a nice job right there, and you can
see Pain just trying to cut that thing back. Just
not anything there you know this time running between the
guards wasn't as successful as was early in the game.
We're looking at third and two right here, but I
can guarantee.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
This that coach Cisco to him, this is this is
four down.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Territory, Kate, Myron check it in. Also back in Chase
Swartz on third and short from the midfield stripe. If
you're just tuning in fourteen, nothing ported central early, so
we roll under nine minutes left to go over Byron Center.
In the second quarter, it's Schwartz split wide left, crowd
making some noise below us, great crowd on hand, beautiful
night here in the Cavazoo porta Jerry handoff Pain. Look
(11:34):
at him, just wrestle his way. That was Division one
versus Division one against Jillick, and he won. Looked like
he was gonna be stoned. But he gets to the
forty seven for a first down for Byron Center.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
That's the matchup we've all been waiting to see. Right there,
when we see Pain in the hole with Chillick, it
was one on one right at the sticks and Pain
you could see his feet.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
He just kept driving, kept driving, kept driving.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
That time they put Pain in back at quarterback right
there and ran bucksweep with him. Faked the ball one way,
he kept it the other way, and it was just
it was will power versus willpower on that one.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
How about his brother, a senior last year. I don't
have to remind you, coach of that playoff game, Kellen Payne.
I mean, that guy could do anything. And here's the
funny thing. He goes on and he's playing college baseball
at the University of Nevada.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yeah, that's truly unbelievable skill set from both of these brothers.
And I guess I'm glad I didn't have to coach
against that one. This year.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
They got it down the pipeline their Dada football player
the Pain family.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
First down and ten cam.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Now they motion out to the left hand off kneeling
and he gets knocked down. Kind of slipped a little
bit as well, but stopped in his tracks right after
he got the handoff. And on the stop that time
was Joseph Gabon, the senior. He's kind an outside backer
and coach describe a little bit for audience. It's kind
of tough to explain. So they have their down lineman
like you talked about, but they have a lot of
guys right at the line of scrimmage as well.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
They sure do. In those outside linebackers right there. What
they're trying to do is they're trying to squeeze what
we call down block. So if the offensive lineman is
blocking down, they're trying to get their hands on that
guy and really ride him down and seeing what kind
of the next block comes. If it's someone from the interior,
they want to spill it and make it go to
the outside. Somebody from the next tier, they're going to
box it back into their buddies inside linebackers right there.
But it's a super unique defensive set here.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
I mean seven guys and a lot of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
I'm looking at as the handoff kneeling nothing doing maybe
a yard and that's it. Jillick turned him back in
making the stop. And also over the reported central that
time was Luke Ludwig, the junior linebacker.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Yeah, and how often do you see that a seven
to one box. They had seven defenders up on the
line of scrimmage one. I mean, it's nice to have
a Division one linebacker to be that one, right and
Jillick right back there and he's able to what those
seven guys do is they get their hands on all
the offensive linemen and tight ends, and really, Jillick can
run sideline of sideline, and if one defensive lineman can
get off their block, now you've got Jillick free. And
(13:43):
now you've got a defensive lineman free. I like the system.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
And they're three deep in the secondary, come up hard
once they see it's a run.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Absolutely doing a good job filling. And this is a
big third down here for the Byron center offense.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Third and eleven for the Portae central forty eight yard line.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Two wide receivers left.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
What are the right deep drop for Whites wants to
set the screw to Pan to pay, but he makes
the completion of the fifty turns and right there are
two mustangs to drop him. The guy who blew up
the pay was Brady Puttnam the sophomoard.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Yeah, and you're just trying to set up a screen
pass to pain right there. I do like the call.
Just looked like there were one block away from getting
him to get him some open field to be able
to move it around. Looks like Coach Cisco's sending out
the punt team here, and you could see Coach Enders
screaming out to his defensive team to getting punt safe here,
pup return.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Safe, Keaton Van camping back to do the punting duties
and his own thirty nine once again a stop Reportage
Central twice they did it on turnover on downs and
now some shifting by the Mustangs trying to set up
a return. Here Van camp to the left footer low line,
driving kick field a bow inside the twenty, overrunning the
coverage and now trying to get to the outside and
(14:47):
gets out to the thirty before he's dropped there on
the return that time was Nolan Bloomquist was that campaign?
Speaker 2 (14:54):
I think it was on the stop so.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Two verses two, but again the initial gunners on the
outside kind of went behind on the short kick. Bloom
twist fielded it broke that initial coverage and out to
the thirty.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Yeah, and just good field position for this Portage Central
team starting starting on the thirty yard line, and in the
first two possessions we've seen one pass out of the
Porty Central offense and that was the big play on
the first play of the second quarter, and the rest
have just been what coach enders like this likes to say,
staying on schedule, different triple option plays, the belly series,
(15:25):
the inside trap, that's what they want to do on offense.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Give you a.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Scoreboard up then that rockbort A Hudsonville Division I District Final.
After this play, first down and ten ported Central on
the attack, a get up fourteen to nothing. They keep
it on the ground. That's no way the full back
to the thirty one. Good job by the BC defense.
So after one coach at Eagles Stadium in Hudsonville, it's
Rockford seven Hudsonville nothing. Rapid Radio scoreboard update mentioned brought
(15:49):
to you by Rapid Radios no monthly fee ever. Great
for families, hunting, camping, emergency use and more. Find out
more at rapid radios dot com. That's Rapid radios dot
com scores and more. Coming up was a live game
report with Rick Burkey on that game with Rockford Huntsville
during the Holt Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show. Second and nine,
one receiver split wide, They'll motion de man right, want
(16:10):
to pitch it that way. That's Bloomquist trying to get
to the outside. Good job by the Byron Center defense
bottling him up that time. Tate Bainbridge was over there
also defensively was owing to young the senior and all
this kid does is make plays in that secondary for
Mark Cisko, Yeah for sure.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
And Tate Bainbridge doing a nice job being that second
guy in really trying to punch towards the football. Looked
like that ball was almost coming out right there. And
that's what this Byron Center need is right here is
a quick three and out. It's third and six. Now,
remember last time we thought it was gonna go in
the air and they just went to their triple option attack.
Interested to see what coach Andrews is gonna.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Call here, third and five from their own thirty five pointage,
Central up fourteen to nothing. As we roll under four
forty five and ticking left to go first half, McNally
under center.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Now they'll motion tom as an Aiden van Dam.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
They went a hardcout jumps off side for Byron Center.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
That should be enough for a first down.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Yeah, it's gonna be. That's it's really close here for
the first time. He might be just a half yard
short up and he does give him the first down
the favorable spot right there.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
But man, it just feels like Byron Center's starting to.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Get a little bit of momentum there and they jump
off sides, and you could tell what Porton Central was doing.
They're just gonna motion a guy and just see what happens.
Give him a little hard count. Unfortunately, somebody jumped off sides.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Caam Noy, the loan full back.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
They go with the wide half back, sets over the
tight end, give to know a left side. Good job
by Van Dam trying to make up for the penalty,
stops him for a short gain. Also over there defensively
on the stop for BC was Hunter Polowski, the five
to six senior linebacker. You heard Mark Cisco reference him,
maybe his best defender. The kids just heart and soul
(17:42):
out there, all state wrestler, tough kid.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
That time, just to gate of one going up against
the much bigger Noe.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Yeah, we just call that.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
We call that high school football, right, wil versus Will.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
It doesn't matter if you're five to six or five
ten or five element. It is just wilversus Will in
high school football.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Fake Denoe option, neer side mcdally keeps. He comes back
inside the fifty. Look on he's off to the races.
He's got a blocker inside the thirty inside the twenty
tad touchdown Ryland McNally, the senior quarterback, Wow. Showing his
speed that time as he turned the corner of the option,
kept it himself and just like that, it's twenty to
nothing ported Central over BC.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Wow. And we just talked about the triple option sets
and McNally, I feel like it's been sort of like
a little bit of an afterthought with this offense in
the amount of athletes that they have out there.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
But man, he showed his speed there.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Just ran triple option to the right, fake little pitch,
puts his foot in the ground and goes sixty five
yards for the score right there, And you could see
how athletic he is, just weaving in and out and
just getting his way all the way down to the
end zone.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
He's got some speed. That's a good looking offense there.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Brett So a fifty five yard run by the quarterback,
senior number twelve McNally. Everyone's getting into the act here now,
trying to go for two. Pitched it back to bloom
Quiz tries to cut up feel inside the five and
hits a wave of white. Gonna be stopped a yard short.
So once again Byron center stopping the two point conversion.
(19:08):
Still a three score game, and with three forty eight
left to go in the first half of this Division
two district final, it's Ported Central twenty Byron Center.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Nothing.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
We'll come back with more here after this on ninety
six to one the game. So a fifty five yard
(20:03):
touchdown run by their senior quarterback number twelve on the option.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
That's Ryley McNally.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
McNally in the act knowing with a touchdown run and
Nolan Bloomquist the big three, and just like that, port
In Central leads at twenty to nothing. They did fail
on the two point conversion and now set to kick
it off. Noah Cline the big lineman. Oh, they fake
it to him, and now they switch it up. Brady
Putnam ended up kicking it off. It's taken on the
far side at the fifteen, across the twenty twenty five
(20:29):
thirty gotta crease and out to the thirty four yard
line on the return that time, how about the sophomore
once again.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Gavin Millward. But how about that coach.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
So they look like the big lineman's gonna approach and kick,
and all of a sudden, Putnam comes into his left
and kind of kicks the sidewinder to throw them off.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Yeah, you know, you give the two kicker look and
you know one guy runs through and then the other
one kicks it. But great chat by the Byron Center
kickoff return or kickoff return team, right there's been setting
up their offense pretty good each each possession here. But
you gotta feel like this is a score possession for
Byron Center. And we talk about the last four minutes
of the of the second court. In the first four
minutes of the third quarter, a.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Huge handoff Campaign trying to cut back and again just
runs into a wall of not just one, but two
Mustang defenders. Big number eight Jillik was there to stop it,
but he had help for basically a gain of one
to the forty one.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
And Folks, when you see Campaign stop like.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
That after he's got momentum, he's two hundred and ten,
maybe two fifteen, that's not easy to do. I've been
impressed both sides with ported central here coach defensively with
those stops and the offense as advertised.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Oh without question. I mean this defense is as good
as any defense I've seen all year right here. But
they've been advertised being good, and it's one thing to
be advertised being good. And a lot of people have said, hey,
their schedule hasn't been there. But I'll tell you what,
playing unbelievable against a very good Byron Center football team.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Four hundred and eighty one points put up in ten
games and already twenty in this one for game eleven.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Whitchers trying to air it out over.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
The top, single coverage, but incomplay, good job of the
defender over their defense sensively that time was Joseph Gaman,
the senior on the outside, and they tried to throw
it over the top to Loud and Tilma.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Yeah, just trying to take a shot, and you could
see the portage central defensive backs. Finally, they had a
different coverage. They just played just strictly manned man right there,
cover zero, but at depth, and they are able to
break up on that, you know, and obviously Byron Center
trying to take a shot, trying to just get get
some life right, trying to get a big play, a
big score, something to get going. It's third and ten here,
Brett and we talked about We just mentioned that those
(22:28):
these last four minutes of the first half, in the
first four to the second half. Those are that hidden
time and Byron Center's got to get something going on this.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Going empty set with a four wide receiver package, campaign
is out of the ball game.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
So two wide receivers each way.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
I'm thirty nine from their own forty one down twenty
to nothing. White just barking out the signals. Now there's
some movement up front. Yep, they got Tate. Bainbridge went
a little bit early. I think Bovia did as well.
On the near side.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
Yeah, it almost looked like he was he had a
hard count going there, and it looked like half the
offensive lineman jump and the other half didn't. Then it
with the ball was quickly snapped right there. But that's
certainly not what coach.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Cisco wants on that on that third down.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Don't forget to drive to Ford Field persented by Vandalaln
Home Improvement for your next exterior project roofing, sided windows.
Make sure you check out vanderlin that's Vanderlahns dot com.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
With a double A two location to serve you Hudsonville.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Then for those northern locations, maybe a cottage up north
in Traverse City and we'll have regional final action coming
up next Friday night Saturday. Of course we've got Calvin
football and coach. We got to get to Calvin and
Hope coming up tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Yeah, you talked about the Holy War. There you go,
there's another one for you.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Third and fourteen, after the penalty, Whitress back to pass
out of the shotgun, looking looking steps up in the pocket.
We'll went to his right, throws across the middle incomplete,
almost intercepted. Jillick was over there in coverage dropping deep.
Let me check that that was game and number three.
But Jillick dropping back on the shorter stuff incomplet and
now fourth and fourteen, no choice for Mark Cisco.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
They got to punt the.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Foot going with that deep in your own territory and
you're down three scores already. You don't want to give
him an easy feel to get that fourth score to
go up or to go up here before the second half.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
So Van camping on keeping to kick it away the
left footed kicker and signed his own twenty five, standing
approaching the snap of his own twenty two while staying shift.
Get the snap away, no pressure, This one a better kick,
kind of a knuckleball float or back it away. I
think a wise decision was Bloomquist. As it hits to
the thirty, he does take a favorable bulldog bounce inside
(24:23):
the thirty down to about the twenty eight yard line,
touched there by Byron Sentdles. So it'll be first in
ten pointed central defense pitching a shutout. We mentioned six
shutouts and ten games coming in and the offense on pace,
on track with twenty points already on the board, and
another shot here before the end of the first half
for sure.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
And you know, coach Heenders, he's got all three face
timeouts right here with two minutes and thirty seconds go.
I guarant he's gonna keep running. His offense is still
gonna run the football here. But you got to know
what coach Heenners wants in his mind. He wants a
touchdown here, and they want to get the football in
the second half and bunch another one in.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
And now it's tough, is if you're by ren center,
how do you get those extra possessions right? You want
to and over So you got to try to strip
the football because you know they're gonna keep it on
the ground with the lead, right, something's got to go
their way. NOI and they try to punch it away
from three or four bulldogs around him. After a short
game does cross the thirty to the thirty one, we'll
give them three second and seven. But the problem is
clock continues to wind.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Yeah, and they're still running over to the sidelines here
getting and getting the play looks like the tempo's a
little bit faster, but they're still a huddle team, and
it's hard to just say, hey, I'm gonna go from
no huddle to excuse me, from huddle to no huddle.
If they're huddle team, they're gonna continue to be a
huddle team.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
We're gonna talk about this with Mick Enders and his history.
He had one team that made it to the semi finals,
lost to Muskegan in a hard fought game. I'm thinking
this might be his best club he's had here ported Central.
Now they go with the reverse back to the way Coleman.
A nice job by Fyron Center to stay home and
they're gonna drop him for a lost. Great job that time.
And one of the guys that kept home and the
(25:49):
edge was number fifty five.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
That's a freshman in Micah Swaggerty for BC.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Yeah, just a nice and so reported censor ran and
toss sweep and gave it on the reverse to number one.
Here you can see coach Cisco's taking a time out here,
and I think that's a smart move.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Minute thirty four to go in the first half. It's
third and long.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
Stop the clock, and you talked about trying to get
the extra possession. That's what coach Cisco's trying to do
right here. Try to get that extra possession.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Now.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
If your coach Enders, you know you've got your three timeouts, However,
do you risk throwing the football and having that clock
get stopped potentially, or do you just run at forst
Byron Center to take their second time out and then
punt the football away. But obviously in a perfect role,
if you're mckenders, you're just trying to get the first
down to keep this thing rolling.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
Let's pass along this Meyer scoreboard update seven forty three
left to go. They're obviously a little bit behind us
with all the running here in the second Hudsonville is
now even things up. Brady Van Lake an eight yard
touchdown passed to Braydon Miller. Extra point was good. Rockford
seven Hudsonville seven. Don't forget Rick Berkeley with a live
game repoard coming up in our whole Jepson Physical Therapy
halftime show with Joe Errant as part of that Meyers
(26:56):
Scoreboard to update on all the scores over on one
oh seven US the Moose. Right now, you could check
out Division seven Shelby up in the clear area taking
on Harrison and.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
It looks like maybe even Hudsonville might have scored another
one wow to go out fourteen to seven. So things
are getting interesting over there up in Hudsonville.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Here's Ryan Oshnock Bret Pikita live from Portage and Portage
Central twenty to nothing with the football over Byron Center
with one thirty four left to go here, first half
after the time out. McNally senior quarterback under center. Oh,
some movement up front. Yeah, they're gonna whistle this one
dead as the near side half back that they kind
of set up as a wing back with those wide splits.
(27:38):
Tomez came out of his three point stance a little
bit early, so they'll back them up five and reset.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
Yeah, now third and fifteen here, just a little bit
of life for the Bulldogs here. If they can get
a stop, maybe take another time out right here, force
the punt, get the football back with another chance, try
to get in the scoreboard.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Four half, so third and fourteen from their own twenty
four number seventeen Jacob Bennis Senior, wide out, split wide right.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
They worked from the left.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Ash mcdalley anders center, motions of man fakes, wants to
go option pitch. It was a little bit behind him.
Good job by bloom Quiz. That's a smart play instead
of trying to make him play with three bulldogs around him.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
He knew it was a bad pitch, just caught it
went down.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
Yeah, you know you could see that Byron Center defense
was ready for the triple option there. You know, they
had they had the dive taken care of, they had
the quarterback taking care of it, and all of a sudden
that pitch came out here and it looked like there
was like two or three bulldogs ready to take him
down right here. Coachisco does a nice job taking a
time out. There's a minute twenty six left and ported
Central is gonna have to punt the football here.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
And he's gonna have one time out left for his
offense again. Twenty nothing Portage Central over BC, the winner
of this one will play the winner of Muskegan in
Traverse City Central going on as we speak at Hackley
Stadium in Muskegan. How big was that win for the
Big Reds last week? Maybe you heard it on one
O seven mus the Moose with Tom Kendra and Jason
Nutting beating Mona Shores their arrival for the second time
(28:56):
of the year.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
It's always hard to beat somebody twice, and obviously Miskegan
was able to do it with Mona Shores last Friday.
But boy, I mean Muskegan, just like Byron Center, they
have gone through the gauntlet with their schedule. They ended
up in Week nine with Cincinnati Mohler and I know
they it was a tough game for Moskeigon. But boy,
there's just some battle tested teams here, Brett. But I'll
tell you what, man, Both these teams look good and
this Ported Central team is just doing a nice job
(29:19):
here tonight.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Guess who's back deep number three?
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Keep an eye on Chase Schwartz on the punt return
standing at his own forty seven yard line. Punt team
is on back in his own six yard line to
kick it away high and over red wobbling kick, fair
catch called for and made by sports at the forty
six on the punt that time for Ported Central was
Brady Putnam, the sophomore.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Yeah, and very smart. They're just taking the fair catch
balls on the forty six yard line, you know, and
whatever kind of points Byron Center can muster up. Obviously,
they would love to get a touchdown here in the
last minute nineteen. They've got one time out. They've they've
proven that they're capable through the air. Be interested to
see what coverage Ported Central comes out with if they're
going to continue playing their east cover three and see
if if Byron Center can just hit the hit the
(30:04):
football on the flat, get get out out of bounds
to be able to stop the clock here.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Quickly, campaign split out wide right. Then they've got trips
inside of him and another wide receiver to the left side,
so five wide receiver sets set fire. That's Chase Swartz
complete and steps out of bound. So they had all
the action to the wide side of the field. They
went back to Schwarts with single coverage and a nice
pickup there in Mustang territory. They'll mark them out of
the forty eight. So give them six second and four
(30:29):
stops o' clock. With one fourteen left.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
To go, Yeap and Ported Central State and their cover
three and again Byron Center just taking what the defense
is given them. But man, credit that Ported Central defense.
It's one thing to say I'm gonna play cover three,
I'm gonna come up and make all the tackles. They're
actually making those tackles and they're doing a really nice job.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
They keep paying in the backfield this time, but two
wide receivers each way on second and short White Chers
takes a snapper into his right, Fires, got his man
out there, and once again number three Chase Swartz having
a big first half, Yeah for sure.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
And again just this nice sprint out pass running the
small combination, so the outside guy's running to stop, the
inside guy's running the corner route, trying to keep that
defensive corner deep.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
With him, and they're hitting the hitch out there.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Those are just easy, easy gimmes for the Byron Center offense.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Enough for a first down to move the chains. First
in ten they worked from the Mustang thirty six. What
a weight left to go first half twenty ninhing Imported
Central over Byron Center, Whitchers takes a snap, sets, Fires,
got his man, He got his feet in bounds and
down and they say out of bound.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
This time he didn't get out of bounced clocks still
running here second and five. You know again you just
gotta get up to the line, don't you have got
to go too fast or so it still a minute left.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
It was Schwartz by the way, cane of five to
the thirty one.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Whitcher's now taking a deep shot up the sideline and
great leverage and coverage that time. They were going for Swartz,
but Ben Coleman, it was almost like a box out,
but Legal got him pinned against the sideline at just overthrown.
Great job by the junior.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Yeah, you know, Ben Coleman did do a very nice
job right there in cover three, just running with the
vertical route. Try to just take a shot byron center
and try to take a shot to the end zone
right here. I love the car, But boy, Ben Coleman
did a nice shop. You talked about that boxing out.
I mean it's it's it's a fifty to fifty ball,
so anybody running with anybody right there, there's not gonna
be any pass interference.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Chase Schwartz by himself wide right on third and six
for the Mustang thirty one for BC trips to the
left of Wats side of the field, Whiers out of
the pistol, takes a snap looking left across the middle
of the field, tipped in almost intercepted bloom Quist knocking
it away. They were looking for Tilma, but boy, he
threw into some traffic that time.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Coach Yeah, and Bloomquist was right there just trying to
hit that hit that the seam route right there on
that near Eric's eyen, near Hash to us and Bloomquist
did a nice chop getting a paw on the ball
right there, and that ball was up and boy, it
looked like there's three ported central dudes right around there.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Could the Mustangs make it a third time this half
of getting a fourth down stop in their own territory?
Speaker 5 (32:45):
Huge?
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Huge, huge, I mean this is a huge play obviously
for Byron center. And I could see right here if
Coach Cisco needs to take a time out, he will
just depending on the look.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Here, Aiden Ferguson in the tight slot with schwartzed to
the right for the right Hash, two wide receivers left
paint in the backfield with Whitchers to his left. Fourth
down and six Whitcher's back to pass set throwing over
the top, got paint out there.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Does he make the catch?
Speaker 1 (33:07):
He does?
Speaker 2 (33:08):
What a touchdown?
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Junior number two Campaign. I think the defensive back kind
of lost the football. Great job by pain and diving
cats before it hit the turf.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
You know you don't see this too often. They had
two receivers split out each way. Payin was in the
backfield and they ran him right down the middle of
the field. Quarterback just took a look to the outside
and said, we're gonna throw it to our best football player,
and boy, he put it in the basket and pain
nice diving catch to get in the end zone.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
They're gonna go for the traditional kick for the extra points.
The hole is down by Owen DeYoung and the kick
is up being good by the senior Dawson Hillar. So
with thirty three seconds left to go, b s gets
is stopped.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
They cash it in.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Whitecher's a thirty one yard touchdown pass to Campaign.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Tack on the extra point.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
It's a thirteen point game Portage Central twenty Byron Center
seven with thirty three seconds left to go, first half.
Welcome back with more after this on nainety six y to
one the game.

You're Ryan Ashnach coming to you live tonight from mccambley
Field in Portage Portage Central High School as Byron Center
has just now gotten life before the end of the
first half, putting their first points up on the board.
Is now Hillard kicks it away driving the return man
backets at his five, coming your side though with a
head of speed across the twenty and out across the
twenty five before he's gang tackle there Ben Coleman, that
(35:06):
junior return man for Ported Central. Twenty six seconds left
to go. Coach, let's go back and kind of recap
that BC scoring drive. Nice use of his timeouts by
Mark Cisco and boy, that's big now to make it
a two score game.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Yeah, without question. I mean that's that was the sign
of life that BC needed to get back in the
football game. You can kind of see some momentum and
the sideline getting into it and the crowd getting into it.
They needed something to get some momentum going for him.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Return of twenty three that time by Ben Coleman first
and ten. They worked for their own twenty seven McNally
under center.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
They just gonna they just took a knee. Yep, takes
the snap and take it a knee.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
Why not if you're McK anders he talked about to
us this week, let's get off to a good start.
We haven't done that against Byrons in the last two
years in the playoffs, where they certainly did, even though
he won't be happy with that score at the end
of the half. As both teams head of their respective
locker rooms, it's poorted cent at the break of this
Division two District Final twenty to seven over Byron Center
(36:05):
State with us the host Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show
is coming up. Scores in more, plus a live report
from Eagles Stadium in Hudsonville with that Hudsonville Rockford game
with our own Rick Berkie. That's all we come back
as you're listening live to high school football playoff action,
brought to you by Vandalot Home Improvement right here on

Speaker 9 (36:24):
An unbreakable record is shattered at cross country finals, and
a couple of soccer championships need more than just overtime
to determine winners. I'm John Ross and this is this
Week in High School Sports, powered by the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.
As a freshman, Natasha Dudek ran the ninth fastest time
in MHSAA cross country Finals history.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Not bad.
Speaker 9 (36:47):
What she did this year as a sophomore, though, is unbelievable.
Dudek led her school and Arbor Pioneer to a Lower
Peninsula Division one team title, and then the process, ran
the fastest race in the history of the MHSAA cross
Country Finals, beating the old record by a whopping nineteen seconds.
Her time of sixteen minutes, nine and a half seconds
(37:07):
is well in front of the previous record holder, Rachel Forsyth,
also from Pioneer, and du Deck's older sister, Sophia, won
the twenty nineteen Division one title with a time just
over seventeen minutes, which is one of the state's top
ten fastest. Second place in Division one this year went
to Rachel Smith of Okamis, another sophomore. Her time was
also good enough to make the top ten in event history,
(37:29):
but it was almost one minute behind Doudeck, and du
Deck will have two more chances to break her own
record as a junior and senior in the upcoming years.
For complete coverage of the cross country finals, held for
the thirtieth year at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, please
check out MHSAA dot com. While there you can see
championship race records for both boys and girls buy division,
(37:51):
and for team and individuals. It's time for game balls,
when we highlight a trio of standout performances from the
past week. First, gross point zero else Ethan Morgan. He
had a pick six and a twenty eight to twenty
seven playoff win over Roseville. This is the second straight
year that South has knocked Roseville out of the playoffs
with a one point win. Detroit castex Corey Sadler had
(38:13):
a big day and a forty six to three win
over Northville. The senior caught three passes for one hundred
and ten yards and returned to punt eighty yards for
a touchdown. As the defending champion, Technician started their title
defense off on the right foot and a gaylord's basin Silisbury.
He caught a game winning touchdown pass from Kelson Snyder
with twenty seconds left, giving Gaylor to thirty eight to
(38:34):
thirty four win over Marquette and keeping the Blue Devils
undefeated on the season.
Speaker 10 (38:39):
Graduating seniors could qualify for a tuition free skill certificate

the fine art of officiating with registered official page winning.
Speaker 8 (39:22):
In cross country, all runners must start the race wearing
two shoes, but how many must they have on at
the end of the race. If a runner loses one
or both shoes during the course of the race, they
are not required to stop and put it back on.
If your shoe gets stepped on and comes off, or
if you run through a muddy portion of the course
and lose a shoe, you can continue on. A runner
(39:44):
can finish the race with both one or no shoes,
but the race must be started with two and as
to what makes up of a shoe, it must have
two parts, an upper and a lower such as a
sole and a fastenable top portion. You would not be
able to start a race wearing just socks.
Speaker 9 (39:59):
Or thanks page. Now more than ever.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
We need officials. If you're interested, please go.
Speaker 9 (40:05):
To the MHSAA website now to register. Four boys soccer
teams earned finals trophies over the weekend, two of them
via a shootout. All four championship games were played at
Grand Ledge High School. The shootouts came in Divisions one
and four. Leland's Howie Crop converted the winning kick from
the spot in the D four final, a win over
(40:27):
gross Point Woods University Ligate. It gave Leland its first
soccer title since twenty eighteen. Jace Hanley netted the shootout
winner in Division one, giving Portage Central to win over
an Arbor here on Portage Central Goaliague gunnar Thor Halson
stopped all eleven shots he faced in regulation for the
Mustangs and got a stop in the shootout as well.
(40:48):
In Division two, Warren Dala South Collegiate won a second
straight title, defeating Hudsonville Unity Christian two nil. And in
Division three, Detroit Country Day beat South Haven four to one.
It's Country Day sixteenth boy soccer title and MHSAA record.
For more on all four matchups, please be sure to
check out the coverage at MHSAA dot com. You've been
(41:10):
listening to this Week in High School Sports powered by
Michigan Student Aid, a production of the MHSAA Network. Thanks
for joining us. I'm John Ross. We'll be back next week.
Speaker 6 (41:29):
Joe Ern back inside the nine six one in the
Game studios. We are at the half of our high
school football Game of the Week playoff edition port at
Central leading Byron Center twenty two seven. We got lots
of scores that we're going to get to here on
the Myer Scoreboard Show, and we're going to start in
Division one where we probably have the game of the
night in most areas, probably with state implications as well.
(41:51):
Between Hudsonville and Rockford the rematch, So we actually have
a special guest this time, and can I say it's
game reporter Rick Burkey. It's good to welcome him in
as I'm on this side of the mic this time.
Speaker 11 (42:06):
Rick, Yeah, it's good to be here with you guys.
And we got a game dandy so far. It's kind
of living up to what they played the first time,
which course was an epic finish when they met at
Rockford during the regularsoon. But at the half in the
district final here at Hudsonville High School, scores Hudsonville fourteen,
Rockford ten. Hutsonville got the ball the nose will drive,
had a nice drive going with then missed the forty
(42:26):
two yard field goal, but the Rams then picked off
a pass from Hudsonville near midfield, moved the ball down
to the one yard line eventually where Lucahearn punched it
over for a one yard score. Pat was good. Rockford
led it seven to nothing. Hutsonville march it right back
all the way down to the eight yard line, where
Braden Miller caught an eight yard pass from Brady van
(42:46):
Lake that tied us up at seven to seven at
the seven to forty three mark of the second quarter.
Hutsonville then took its first lead at the three twenty
nine marks of the second quarter. Brady van Lake a
beautiful forty nine yard run where he cuts to the
outside streak down the sideline. Pat was good. It was
Hudsonville fourteen, Rockford seven. But the Rams battle right back,
(43:07):
sparked by a fantastic forty two yard beautiful catch by
Jax eichbart Or Rockford. They got the ball down, then
the Hudsonville defense stiffened. Connor Van Austen came on and
booted a thirty four yard field goal for Rockford with
just forty one seconds left in the half. Hudsonville got
(43:28):
it back, but no more scoring at the half. The
score Hudsonville fourteen, Rockford ten. The winner of this game
tonight advances to the regional finals next week and takes
on the winner of tomorrow afternoons game between East Kenwood
and Howell being played at Howell High School. Now, if
Hudsonville wins tonight, the Eagles will stay at home regardless
(43:49):
of who wins tomorrow and Howell. If Rockford should come
back and win here tonight, the Rams would be at
home only. If East kent Wood wins tomorrow, the Rockford
would travel to Howell. If Howell prevails tomorrow over East
stantwin again at the half. Here in the district final
at Hudsonville High School, the score is Hudsonville fourteen and
Rockford ten. Reported Hudsonville High School for the Meyer Scoreboard Show,
(44:12):
this is Rick Burkey.
Speaker 6 (44:13):
Thank you, Rick, and we'll check with him in the
Meyer Scoreboard Show. In the post game as well, again
Hudsonville leading Rockford fourteen to ten.
Speaker 5 (44:21):
In Division two.
Speaker 6 (44:22):
Now Muskegan leading Traverse City Central at the half fourteen
to thirteen, and of course right here on nine to
six to one in the game Byron Center trailing Port
At Central twenty to seven. In Division three, East Grand
Rapids in a defensive battle with Coopersville that's at the half.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
EGR leads six to nothing.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
Zealand West nearing the half leading Saint Joe twenty two
to sixteen, and Lowell up on thorneutpull Kellogg fourteen to ten.
In Division four. Again, all these games are nearing halftime.
If not at halftime, Unity Christian up twelve to seven.
Speaker 5 (44:52):
Right now a spring break.
Speaker 6 (44:53):
That game is being played at Grandville and Portland all
over grund Rapids Christian tonight twenty eight to nothing. In
Division five Whitehall on the lake Shore in sagan O
Swan Valley, Whitehall is Trently twenty two to nothing. A
good one between old rivals West Catholic and Catholic Central.
They are at the half tied seven to seven. In
Division six, Reed City leading Montague thirty five to seven,
(45:15):
and Kent City and Belding are nodded at seven apiece.
Speaker 5 (45:22):
And it will take a look excuse me.
Speaker 6 (45:23):
Belding and Kent City are tied at eight apiece and
in Division seven are lake Shore Game of the week
which you can hear on one oh seven m us
The Moves Shelby leading Harrison twenty to sixteen. North Muskegan
will also be in action tomorrow at one pm in Puama, Westphalia.
That will be played in Westphalia at Pirate Field. We'll
step aside and we'll come back and we'll head back
(45:45):
out to Portage where we will join Brebekda and Oshana
as they will preview the second half once again. Our
halftime score, Ported Central leading Byron Center twenty to seven,
but we got plenty of actions still to come. Right
here on nine to six won the game. Crapping up
(46:05):
for the halftime show. One score of note that I
did not that I forgot to mention. Currently live on
top twelve thirty WTKG, the Red Wings and the Rangers
are in action just beginning the second period. It is
tied at one to one. JD Comfort lighting the lamp
or the Red Wings. Let's head back now to port
It Central as we preview the second half and get
all the second.
Speaker 5 (46:25):
Half action between Byron Center and Ported Central.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
Gentlemen, job appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
Joe Erda nice to hear Rick Burkey out at the
Hudsonville Rockery game. We'll have a live game report coming
up in our postgame coverage here from Portage as well.
This is the Hoholt Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show. At
the break, it's Ported Central twenty Byron Center seven this
Division two District final. We'll let you know how he
got there. Plus we'll get coaches keys to the second half.
But it's brought to you by Hulst Jepson Physical Therapy
(46:52):
They want you and these athletes to stay in the
game no matter what level of activity desire. They get
patients here within twenty four to forty eight hours. Holt
Jepson physical therapy, restoring body, reviving spirit. Well, let's take
it through the first half scoring summer, and it was
all coach in that first quarter and then into the
second quarter. Port At Central their defense getting two fourth
down stops in their own territory against the Byron Center defense.
(47:15):
Both campaign rushes that they stop shorts, they get the
ball back, but in the meantime, a one yard touchdown
run by Nolan Bloomquist, the senior running back. Then then
an eighteen yard touchdown run by the sophomore Cam Noy.
They're leading rusher over one thousand yards coming in. And
then of course the big one that kind of broke
the back, but Byron Center getting a big score before
the half to keep this a two score game. Was
(47:37):
the senior quarterback fifty five yard touchdown run. He turned
the corner on the option Ryley McNally and then just
off to the races that made it twenty to nothing.
But then Byron Center, give them credit, they convert on
a fourth down and a big play, a thirty one
yard touchdown pass to Campaign from Easton Whitchers. The extra
point was good to make it twenty seven here at
the break.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
Yeah, you know, that score just is allowing Byron Center
to believe they can get this job done in the
second half.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
Now, it'll be interesting to see because Byron Center will
have to kick two port in central to start the
second half, and that leads us right into our vandal
On home improvement keys to that second half.
Speaker 3 (48:12):
Coach, Yeah, for sure. I mean, for if you're Byron Center,
it's this opening drive on defense right and you can
see them huddled up over there on their sideline right now,
and you can tell Coach Cisco's getting that defense fired up,
getting them ready to go. If they've got to get
a stop here on the first drive, if they can
force ported Central to punt, that momentum will solely be
on the side of Byron Center and then reported Central
(48:33):
right here. Again, I think it's very important they stay
on schedule when they got behind the sticks because of
the penalty that threw them off their offense. They got
to stay on schedule and get three to four yards
of pop, and that's what Coach enders wants to do
here in the second half.
Speaker 1 (48:45):
Our first half scoring somebody brought to you by MKD
Funeral Homes every story, every moment, every day, just like
our game broadcast since nineteen thirty seven through four generations,
eight locations to serve you. They will be there when
your family needs it most again MK two Funeral Home
dot Com. Dawson Hillard kicks it away high end over
end kick, angling to the right, taking inside the ten
(49:05):
at the nine and Ben Coleman coming up the far
sideline at the numbers, crosses the twenty five. They'll mark
him right at the thirty yard line. Pretty nice return there,
and actually let me correct myself for PC, that was
Luke Ludwig, the junior number seven on the return, so
out to the thirty first and ten, and that's where
Ryley McNally in this Mustang's offense that was so impressive
(49:26):
running the football primarily in that first half, goes back
on the attack here to start the second.
Speaker 3 (49:32):
Yeah, you got to think you we're gonna see a
healthy dose, a healthy dose of cam noey here in
this opening drive.
Speaker 1 (49:38):
One wide receiver split wide right under center McNally. Like
we see with this offense from the left hash fake
and tries to run his own number and hit hard
and dropped. I mean he took a shot that time,
as guess who it was, Pulawski and also number six
tight Bainbridge there to stop him.
Speaker 2 (49:55):
Did get three with his size at six' five second
and seven coming up with the.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
Mustang, yeah that's the first time we've seen the mid
line option by ported central where they're reading the three
technique and it's either the quarterback's gonna give it to
the dive or he's gonna keep it going through THE
b gap right. There he pulled. It very nice shot
by The byron center. Defense just staying at home and
knowing their assignments in this option football.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Today, coach we got some tight games in district, finals
checking those scores out at, halftime just like.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
Ours let's see what happens here with THE vc defense.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
Hand off over the left, side picking his way across
the thirty five and he's close to that first down.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Marker let's see if he's got it at the.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
Forty it Was Cam, noi the, sophomore the big, back
and he does.
Speaker 3 (50:34):
Yep and Again noe's he's the one in the second.
Half if they're gonna stay on schedule here in this
opening drive, here it's gonna we're gonna see a healthy
dose annoying right. There they ran the belly option right,
there pulling the front side guard just giving it to
him and he kind of just weaves his way through,
there and you could see Those byron center defenders man
getting off, blocks But noe again falling forward makes him
tough to.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
Tackle that only big, body but like, campaign he's got
nice feet.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
Too he sure. Does he sure. Does very athletic.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
Slot to the right work from the.
Speaker 1 (51:00):
Left hash McNally takes his snap from center handoff knowing left,
side plowing out again that big offensive line doing a
great job out to the forty three yard. Line doesn't
look like, much but he gains. Three and of course
they're following one of their lead, blockers big number. Seventy
AND i know you're impressed with the left. Guard That's Noah,
kline who's committed A Grand Valley.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
State, yeah and the Coach wooster over there At Grand
Valley states got himself a good. One you can see
him just fire off the football every single, play getting
movement up front on what looks like a very good
defensive line For Byron, center and they're just getting enough
movement to gain two three four yards a.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
Pop notice they're Putting bova over. There that's a pretty
good crutch match With povia in. KLINE a lot of
weight between those two in the. Trenches second down and
seven handoff quick in or knowing.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
Insied the forties off to the.
Speaker 1 (51:45):
Races what man the beat tied to Stiff farman but
up ended and lost his balance inside the twenty. Five
they'll mark him down to THE bc twenty two yard,
line saving the touchdown that time was the defensive back
to Junior Josiah. Parker but another big run for Cam
noy number four of the softball.
Speaker 3 (52:02):
And this time was the first TIME i saw A
Byron center shift. Defenses they went from a four to
three look to a six to two, look and it
looked Like Port central just had the perfect belly play
called them where they pulled that front side guard and
know he kept it off the right edge right.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
There, well you mentioned coach gotta get a stop. Here
we'll see nine thirty six and taken left to go
in the third already a two score. Game could they
push it back to a three score. Game is McNally
the fake To knowe and then running his own number
over that right side between the guard and. Tackle he
plows down to the sixteen yard. Line good gain on first.
Down down in distance you talked, about coach so. IMPORTANT
(52:36):
i mean they're getting six seven yards a pop.
Speaker 3 (52:38):
Here, yeah it's a lot easier to call a play
when it's second and four versus you, know second and
ten or second eleven or whatever it may. Be and
it just really again we talked about staying on schedule with.
It this is staying on schedule when you're gaining seven
yards on first.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
Down Mick enders and The mustangs roll with a kid
under nine minutes left to, go third, quarter taking a
lot of, time hand Off noe on the delay inside
the ten down to the seven yard.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Line that'll be enough.
Speaker 1 (53:03):
For first in goal situation date of nine that, time
we mentioned the keys to the contest in the second
half with Coach.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
Joshnack being brought to you By Vanderlin Home.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
Approval with eighty years in the, Business Vandalion Home improvement
offers top notch contractor services to customers In West.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
Michigan find out.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
More you can also see photos of their great work
At vanderlins dot. Com twenty to seven port at central
starting with the football here the second half and marching
down again deep into byrons center. Territory can they tack
on six? More McNally under? Center they'll motion the wing
back from right to the left hand OFFF. Noi the
fullback just steps through the tackling into the end zone
(53:39):
for six. More his second rushing touchdown of the, night
this time from seven yards.
Speaker 3 (53:44):
Out and that was All cam knowing right. There they
just ran the zone, option gave him the. Football he
was bottled up in the backfield right, there and you
talked about his feet just stepping from the left to the,
right finding that little seam and again running behind his
pads on that zone dive right there and just finding
his way in the end. Zone he's an impressive young.
Speaker 1 (54:03):
Man, well if there's one thing That Mick anders isn't
happy about at this, point they gave it to his
two point. Conversions let's see if they can get what, here.
Coach they missed the last two.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
And they've been in THE t formation every single, time
and they're staying in THE t formation here for their
two point.
Speaker 1 (54:16):
Conversion double ten end set McNally unders center. Pitching they're
gonna throw it back to, McNally but he threw it.
Speaker 2 (54:21):
Low, oh he rushed.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
It he had some pressure of that time from the
outside by bomb, back but Bloom kiss wanted to have
it back because wide open at the goal line was his.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Quarterback ryley.
Speaker 3 (54:30):
McNally just the old school trans continental is what you
call that run the little toss to the running. Back
he runs to the, right throw it back to the
quarterback going the other. Way he did have mo but
you gotta put a little air on that one right
there if you're gonna complete it right. There do like
that call By Mick, enders but he does have to
be a little bit. Frustrated he's left six points out
there on the field with those two point conversion.
Speaker 1 (54:50):
Tracks there's only one of four their two point conversions
eight twenty two left to go in the third time
out of the, field will step uside as. Well It's
Ported central twenty Six Byron center seven back with more
after this on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
Red bike To Ryan oshnock with me in For Buck. Gino.
Speaker 1 (55:11):
Tonight This District Final Action division two From Ported Central
high school as the, kickoff taking on the fly just
inside the tent at the, nine and again that's the
Sophomore Gavin, millward this time stacked on the right.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
Side a nice.
Speaker 1 (55:23):
Job he just runs north and, south squares his shoulders
across the twenty five and he's out to the twenty
eight yard line before he's up ended.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
There first down and. Ten but Now Byron.
Speaker 1 (55:32):
Center, OFFENSIVELY i, mean they basically got a score on every, possession.
Speaker 3 (55:35):
Every, possession big. Plays they gotta find a way to
get some big plays.
Speaker 1 (55:39):
Here campaign can give you a big play number two
as they handoff from left to right on the, ground
turns the corner across the thirty and he's out to
the thirty four yard. Line Ported central just kind of
wants to not give up the big plane, obviously keep
things bottle up for the most point with his three possession.
Speaker 3 (55:55):
Lead, yeah And campaign looking a little frustrated out, there
just hasn't been able to get those bigger scenes to
get himself those big. Plays credit to that Porty central defense,
again the first, level second, level third, level and you
talked about. It those defensive back supported sense doing a
nice job coming up in the.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
Run, yeah they just kind of take their third of
the field and try to shut it. Down Chase schwartz
now the pass to the far, side penalty flag coming out,
late but swarts with the catch and has enough for
a first. Down he crossed the forty knocked out at
the forty one yard line over.
Speaker 2 (56:23):
There, defensively it looks like very late, hit kind of,
like oh oh, yeah it was backed by the line of.
Scrimmage But Colin steele And Ben.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
Coleman on the stop all the gated though it was
a late penalty. FLAG i will say that very much.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
So, THERE i mean to get it to get a
holding call for that to be called that late super
super rare to see. That that's where you see kind
of maybe that late. HIT i mean Again Byron center
doing a nice job just taking the hitch right. There
but it's tough when you get in those second in
longs and you put yourself behind the. Sticks not a
lot you can call right, there especially against a defense
that is they've bent a little, bit they us don't,
(57:00):
break they don't give up the big.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
Play terry On lipsi is the junior nose, guard big
number sixty. Five Then Grant henry is one guy to his,
Right jaden lefew to his. Left they'll rotate people in
steal And gamin are your backers on the. Edge So
Mark cisco and The bulldog's gonna take a time. Out
(57:22):
we'll keep it right. Here seven forty left to. Go third,
quarter twenty six to, Seven Ported central Over Byron. Center
was twenty and seven at the. Break Ported central won
the toss to start the. Game defer to the second,
half so they started the football and put more points
on the.
Speaker 3 (57:36):
Board, yeah oh, sorry, man we talked about just that second.
Half key is can can they get a stop in
that opening? Series And Ported central methodically move the football
down the field and then that hurts right. Here and
you could see in that last little series right there
With Byron center just had the wrong personnel on the
field And coachisco had to call it time, out and
you know he wants to save those a little bit
(57:56):
here when you're down twenty six to, seven it's got
to be all. Saved but, again got. It you gotta
find the big play For Byron. Center and if you're
port At, centric just try to keep everything in, front
keep everything in. Front see if they can move the
ball methodically down the field to.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
Score if you're just tuning in four hundred and eighty
one points in ten games for this ported central, offense
and they're on pace right, now, coach with twenty six
against a Good byron center.
Speaker 3 (58:16):
Defense very Good byron center. Defense they've been very impressive.
Speaker 1 (58:20):
Second and fifteen after the penaltyon time out for their
own twenty Three easton which was out of the pistol.
Formation Motion man is campaigning and swinging out to, them
but nowhere to go bottled up. Again great job over.
THERE i tell you what we have our offensive defensive
players of the game will name end the end in
our postgame. Show but Bloom twist And coleman defensively along With,
jillick And i'll throw a number nine as, Well Collin.
(58:42):
Steele those guys have been flying all over the place
tonight making.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
Tackles you're.
Speaker 3 (58:47):
RIGHT i, mean we've heard About Charlie, GILLICK i feel
like all season. Long But Nolan bloomquist right, there number,
two he's played both ways. Tonight he's been super active
at his free safety spot right. There they try to
throw a swing pass out there to pain and in
the open, field and that's where you want to try
to get him the opportunity to get that big playing
Bloom quist coming from his mid center field position right
there and making the.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
Tackle no gate stopped him dead cold at the twenty
four third and fifteen handoff paying right side cuts it.
Up oh one ankle tackle away from maybe breaking that
one out into the clear as he crossed the thirty
falls forward to the thirty. Two so it's gonna be
fourth down in Long now what Is Byron center?
Speaker 2 (59:24):
DOING i, mean you almost have to go for, it right.
Speaker 3 (59:25):
Ah, Man it's, tough you, know because if you go for,
it that's probably and you don't get, it it's probably the,
game right, Right this will at least prolong it and
see if you can't can't get a turnover. Here and,
obviously and this isn't a situation where you're gonna call
for a fake punt ray. Here but Coach cisco here
electing to punt the, football but they don't have anybody back.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
Here central is not buying.
Speaker 3 (59:45):
IT i don't.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
Know keaton Van kampen is dropping back inside his twenty
at the nineteen on fourth and seven from their own
thirty two down twenty six to. SEVEN i snap has
to go get, it kicks it. Away there is one
deep and this one a nice line driving kick hits
at the th, two takes a favorable bulldog, bounce still
rolling inside the twenty five and down near the twenty
two yard. Line so good job of flipping the field
(01:00:08):
that time on the punt By Van. Campen but Now
Byron center's got to get a takeaway or some type
of stop of their own. Defensively that's where it's gonna.
Start as far as this football.
Speaker 3 (01:00:18):
Game, yeah for. SURE i mean, this this this is
the series of the. Game and we've talked about it,
before but this right, here we talked about. It they
needed to stop in the opening drive right. Here this
is a must. Stop if they don't get to stop,
here it's going to be almost an insurmountable comeback For Byron.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Center this third quarter beam brought to you by our nonprofit.
Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
Again this, Year Kids Food.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Basket and how did we do as far as touchdowns
for kids campaign in the year?
Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Four how about sixty two and fifty?
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Dollars unbelievable and we've tied now the. Mark as we'll
tell you more after this, play first down and ten
Cam noy gonna get a heavy dose here number, four
and keep that clock widing with the lead across the
twenty five leads out to the twenty seven yard line
gain of six back and in.
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
Four, yeah just the zone dive, again giving the ball
to knowing one of your better offensive football players right,
here and you can See Mick, anders Coach henders taking
his time calling those, plays sending his quarterback. In looking
at that play clock right, here it's at thirty right.
NOW i think they're going a little bit. Fast he'd
like to milk the, clock but he's probably just trying
to keep his team on pace here on.
Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
Schedule so one wide receiver split wide, left no reason
to throw it now McNally hand off no way over
the right side and close to that first down. Marker
will they give it to him across the thirty to
thirty one and they will move the chains picked up,
four keep the clock winding under five minutes left to.
GO i mentioned last year of the campaign what it
(01:01:39):
was going to get to sixty four hundred. Dollars we
were right there at sixty three fifty this year and
twenty five thousand dollars total raise just in the football
season alone for Our touchdowns For kids campaign to Benefit
Kids Food. Basket thank you so much all that money
being donated fifty dollars per touchdown during Our games of
The week broadcast by our friends At Lake Michigan Credit.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Union first down and ten, slot left motion.
Speaker 1 (01:02:04):
Man now they'll move him back to the left, side hand,
off no, way just to kind of keep That Byron
center defense honest and no way over the left. Side
good job of the, defense not much running room. There
as leading the way on the tackle For Byron center
defense Was Micah. Swaggerty how about the freshman number fifty
five calling his number a couple times.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Tonight, yeah very impressive to be a freshman playing on
this stage at The division two level here in the
state Of michigan against these. Bigs absolutely some big old
football players out.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
There next week will Be friday night in. Action we'll
let you Know monday. MORNING i would radio where we're
gonna be with the regional. Finals know way, again number
four find it increase in rambling across the Forty got
Another mustang first, down he's out to the forty two yard.
Line nice pick up there of nine more, boy he
(01:02:54):
just comes in. Chunks so, Impressed so.
Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
Impressive and they found something on that what they call
the elly play, again pulling the front side, guard kicking
out the ni man on the line of.
Speaker 4 (01:03:03):
Scrimmage, no he.
Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
Just doing a nice job finding those little. Creases AND
i love what you, said just those feet kind of
going in and out and again running behind his pads
and leaning, forward but yet.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
Strong for a.
Speaker 1 (01:03:13):
Tackle absolutely first down in, Ten bennis split wide. LEFT
noi with the. Dive bovy was right there and also
a Big van damn number seventy to clog it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Up no gain stopped cold right at the line of.
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
Scrimmage that's What Byron sounder needs more. Of second down
in ten as we roll under three thirty left to.
Go SO i want to get back to a point
we had the first. Half, Coach now that you've seen
them a little bit against a team Like Byron, CENTER
i think you go back to the mcanders team that
lost To miskeig in that heartbreaking. LOSS i think it
was a four point game few years back To. Miskegan
they might Get miskeigan again this year in that next.
(01:03:46):
Round BUT i think this team's for, real might be
his best team.
Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
He's had at Porton.
Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
Central, yeah and they're every bit as good as, advertised
being the number one team In division. TWO i, mean
they are every bit as good as advertised. Here AND
i can't speak against that previous team that lost The,
miskigan but, boy this is a good looking group of
kids here At Ported.
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
Central penalty flag comes. Out is this maybe their first
penalty For Ported? CENTRAL i don't remember another?
Speaker 2 (01:04:07):
One, YEAH i think they said this first. One, yeah,
yeah Bloom.
Speaker 1 (01:04:10):
Quist they tried to pitch sweep to the near side
and there was a hold against the defensive lineman For Byron.
Center two guys try to work the, edge so the
so back Up Ported. Central but they have played a
tremendous football game here. Tonight still a lot to go
three zero eight left to go in the, third but
a twenty six to seven advantage and doing what they
want with the football. Though this is What Mark cisco
(01:04:32):
wants For Byron. Center second and twenty coming up for The.
Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
Mustangs, yeah not a lot in the play in the
playbook for, That but, again Coach ander's gonna stay on
schedule right, here doesn't need to take any.
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
Chances Got jillik split out wide, right they throw the
opposite way and complete McNally just a short drop fired
out in the, flats unable to hang. Out it was
a little bit out of his. Range Jacob bennis at
the thirty. Five so now third down to twenty and
that stops the Clockdel Byron center with three zero four
left to go in the.
Speaker 3 (01:04:59):
Third, yeah and that incomplete. PASS i, mean obviously you
don't gain any. Yards but the biggest thing is at
this point in the, game it stops the clock For Byron.
Center stops the. Clock so here it is third and.
Long can they Get can The Byron center defense get
off the field?
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
Here ryley McNally pitcher in the, spring quarterback in the.
Fall now motion to, man he fakes to, sweep wants the,
throw slings it out, there too tall and incomplete at
the forty five yard, line throwing near the sideline to
his tight, End Charlie. Jillick pretty good coverage over there
defensively By Byron Center's Josiah, parker but the throw was
(01:05:34):
too tall For, jillick which is tough at six foot.
Five so fourth out and twenty And Portage central will
have to send the punt team.
Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
Out just what The Byron center defense? Needed was? It
wasn't a three and, out but it was a two
to two series in out here for The Byron center
defense right here And Ported central only got one first down.
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
There, coach do you Cut swartz loose if he can
return it?
Speaker 6 (01:05:54):
Here?
Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
Absolutely puttnam gets it away under some. Pressure there was
some contact in the pelly flags to come. Out schwartz
at the thirty tries to return across the thirty five
and hit hard and dropped the thirty eight yard. Line
but van, DAMN i think is gonna be calling for
roughing the kicker As putnam went.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
Down, yeah and in that and the official was very
slow to throw that flight because it looked like it
could have been inadverting there for.
Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
Sure oh, wow the thing is not the distance because
it was fourth and. Twenty it's an automatic first sound by,
rule so they'll mark it. Fifteen And Mark cisco is
com pleating his case to the far side official on his, sideline,
saying you know what's he supposed to do? THERE i
(01:06:40):
could see running into the. Kicker, yeah it's a.
Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
Heartbreaker and we could see The Byron center staff over,
here sinjoy. Ring we can see the replay over, there and,
boy that's. Tough you know you're going for the block
right you want to make you want it to be
able to change the. Game he's got his, hands blow
his eyes trying to block the cake and it just
kind of inadvertently ran into the punter and it's killer
when it's an automatic first, down.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
That's a tough.
Speaker 1 (01:07:02):
One that is a tough one indeed for The bulldogs
And Byron. Center fresh set of downs and all the
way out to the forty seven yard line they're own
FOR pc two fifty left to, go third, quarter twenty
six to. Seven mustangs get the football back with a
tough roughing the punter penalty By Byron, center now hopping
over a whitdby tackler and cutting.
Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
Back to his. Left nice game on first and.
Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
Ten Into byron center territory inside the forty five to
the forty three Dances Nolan, bloomquist the. Senior he's making
a case certainly to be our offensive player of the game,
tonight brought to you by uptown Chiefs gate along.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
With Mister nowe for sure there and just getting nine
yards on first. Down after that that special team's miss
cue By Byron center right there and, boy you know
Again Mick anders. Coach owner's just trying to stand schedule.
Here move those changed methodically down the.
Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
Field handoff from left to, Right bloomquist again inside the,
forties got the first, down then hit and stacked up
there by THE bc.
Speaker 2 (01:07:59):
Defense bovia one of the first.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
Guys coming up off the bottom of the pile along
With Ethan, parker the senior defender FOR. Bc but they'll
give him to the thirty nine moves To james first and.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
Ten nice pick up. There.
Speaker 3 (01:08:12):
Five, yeah and it's just again with the way that
this portage central offense, moves not a lot of. Opportunities
got to take advantage of any opportunity to get here,
defensively and that includes be only to get off the
field on third. Down but again just milking the clock
and methodically moving the.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
Football it put sixty seven points up Against Lancing everett last.
Week now McNally pulls it out of the full back.
Fake we saw that. Earlier he went fifty five yards
for the, score this time over the left side inside
the thirty down to the twenty nine gain of ten
first down and.
Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
Ten, boy that's so.
Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
TOUGH i, mean all those guys can run their big they're,
physical even Bloom quist for his, size smaller in, stature
but it's the tough customer to bring down with his.
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
Speed pick your poison right.
Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Right, Yeah and in that triple option, scheme you don't
necessarily the coach heenders doesn't know who's gonna at the
football in most. Cases right there and that time with
the midline, Option rylan McNally just pulling the football and
he's just such a big athletic. Body he's hard to bring.
Down for a negative.
Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
Game first down in, Ten, oh great job, Defensively Van
damn has fired up as he blew up that. Play
they tried to go back with bloom twist in the counter,
action nothing, doing stuck back in the thirty for a
loss of one second. Eleven we got a rapid radio scoreboard.

Back you gotta get, it and this is this is a,
huge huge possession For Byron, center not only being able
to move the ball, methodically BUT i think they got
to pick up the pace a little bit here on.
OFFENSE i think if they've got a not huddle package,
something they got to continue to move the ball methodically.
Quickly when you're down three, scores like.
Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
This eleven ten left to Go byron center did use
one of their, timeouts so they have two remaining this,
half all three for mckenders and The. Mustangs they go
four wide receiver center on first and, ten two each
Way white was gonna go to the, air has a
complete on the outpattern to the near side across the
thirty then turn it up field in the sideline and

the move here down twenty six to. Seven three wide
receivers the, right one to the left For whitchers look

whitress was flushed out of the. Pocket they just had
a hitch call to the sideline there and went. In
it's great coaching point right. There when you running a

in that ball game of the, fourth quarter second down,
To ten whitress back to, pass west out, of pocket
rolling to his left right to square, his shoulders look
out under, to wrestling just gonna throw. That one oh
(01:25:11):
he tried to find Was that schwartz over there on.
The sideline it was at the. TWENTY five i thought
he was just gonna throw it out of bounds because
he had pressure coming from.
Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
The inside And Again, ben coleman the corner From ported
central on the defense, right there done a nice job
all game long of really keeping things in front of
him and making plays on.
Speaker 1 (01:25:29):
The football, you know he's making a case for Being
Our montel construction defensive player because he's.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
GOT that i int as well go as.
Speaker 4 (01:25:35):
He does these these these Kids.
Speaker 3 (01:25:37):
Reported central, you know we Talked to mick end And
mickenders on on on a podcast earlier, this year and
we just talked about what is it like For these
kalamazoo area teams to kind of get over that hump
and beat some Of These grand rapids.
Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
Area teams and he.
Speaker 3 (01:25:49):
Owned it, he said you know that our record hasn't
been what we thought it, could be and you know
what this could be our year.
Speaker 1 (01:25:54):
Five wide receiver said on third, and ten three to,
the left two to the Right for Whitchers under durest
again avoids if the pressure steps up and tries to
throw in the middle of, the field but too tall
over the Head Of.
Speaker 2 (01:26:05):
Chase swartz.
Speaker 1 (01:26:08):
So fourth and ten coming up from their own ten
yard Line For. Byron CENTER and, i, Think Obviously, marc
cisco keep the. Offense, out no we're gonna put.
Speaker 4 (01:26:16):
It, away yeah, you know it's.
Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
Just tough if you go for it right here and
they score, right away it becomes the, running clock, You
KNOW and i think just a. Tough situation obviously the
game Is Gonna porty censor's gonna win, the game and
you're just trying, to prevent, you know maybe a running
clock from happening another quick Touchdown By.
Speaker 1 (01:26:33):
Porty central so the punt team is, Out there keaton
van kamping from.
Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
His own, end zone no one back Deep For.
Speaker 1 (01:26:41):

the thirty Seven Of byron cent's gonna roll all the
way out to midfield and finally down There By.
Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
Trent schwartz.
Speaker 3 (01:27:01):
You think even coach heenders looks like he's got some
subs going into the game here man class act By
coach anders right here throwing in some different bodies there
up front For The Portage. Central mustangs, but, Boy bra
i'll tell, you what how impressed have you been? With
both are you more impressed with their offense or? Their
defense because we've heard a ton about. Their defense offensive
(01:27:21):
defense in, YOUR opinion.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
I, would, say boy.
Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
THAT'S tough i would say defense is because Of What
byron center is done in the second half of, the
Season right remember they started one to three and they
were riding what a six game winning street coming.
Speaker 3 (01:27:34):
In, for sure and if you're gonna win, playoff games
you gotta bring a break great defense.
Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
Each week so first and ten from the midfield stripe McNally.
Under center they'll keep it on. The ground but as,
you mentioned other backs rotating in this time In for
knowe At Fullback alex mathers that you, excuse me CORRECT
that i was looking at The Wrong grant henry the
Junior the kerrie got my rosters mixed up their coach
so to the forty six game, of four second. And
(01:28:01):

Speaker 3 (01:28:02):
To, wind yeah and you gotta just, you know you
gotta feel good for coach enders in this ported. Central,
crew again we talked about it all. Game long they've
been knocked Out by. Byron center for them to get
over the, hump, tonight boy that's a big not only,
program win, but boy it's just gotta be a great
feeling For the mustang sideline and. Coaching staff we.
Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
Got some games going down to. The wire coach just
kind of looking at. Some scores second down, and six
they keep it on.
Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
The ground.
Speaker 1 (01:28:26):

Speaker 2 (01:30:03):
Guy coach it's it just is.
Speaker 1 (01:30:06):
So interesting but you know what the respect built up,
with COACHES and i think that's what's. MADE it, i mean,
you know Battling The Okay black division or non conferences
Here at vicksburg are still live in. The playoffs you
guys got a Vicdeo Over west cathy you opened. UP with,
I mean i, Tell people i'm like THE coaching i
see going out of the high school level with you
as head coaches and your staffs is incredible for.
Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
These kids it's just fun.
Speaker 3 (01:30:26):
To, watch it, you know and it. Really is and
it Makes The grand rapids area that much more special
because it's just the quality of coaching at each school
and each school is really invested in and their coaches
and coaching staff and just made it a really great
experience for.
Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
Their kids, last stop by, The Way byron center forcing
a fourth. And twelve so the punt team On for Port,
In central oh, bat snap look out, under duress trying to.
Get away he does kicking as he's. Being tackled what
an effort and it's gonna go inside the forty en
roll To The. Byron center. Thirty five what a play
and you can hear the standing Ovation By, brady putnam,
the sophomore just to get that Off, coach.
Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
Yah and he Had Two byron center guys just hanging
on his chest right there. Getting tackled throws the, ball
out he punts it.
Speaker 4 (01:31:07):
Out there.
Speaker 3 (01:31:07):
YOU know i guess if there's, ONE thing, i mean
how Often Has ported central had to punt the football?
THIS year i guarantee you it's probably twelve or less
time right in, the year and obviously as the season,
goes on that's gonna become more and. More, important Obviously
coach anders doesn't like to. SEE that a great individual Effort,
by putnam.
Speaker 1 (01:31:25):
High fives and hugs down on the sideline below Us
reported central as they realize they're gonna win a district
championship trophy and move on to the. Regional finals some extracurriculars.

for bc called his own number and.
Speaker 2 (01:32:16):
No gain so third down and here's. The thing it's.
Speaker 1 (01:32:19):
Impressive too you know this COACH and i know people, were,
saying well, you know maybe the conference they're in and
who they play this year not as strong as a
Normal Reported central thirty seven points in six shutouts in
ten games is. Three some that means your backups are
doing a great job coming because they're usally getting a,
lot playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:32:34):
No question and if you look even, EVEN tonight i
mean the one score that they gave up was a
heck of, a play heck of a Catch by campaign
on that fourth down at the. FIRST half, i mean
this defense is every bit as good. AS advertising i
got to just take a second give a shout out
to their. DEFENSE coordinator i know he's in the box,
over there but they're former Head Coach brett forrester is
(01:32:56):
over there helping call. The defense and when you have
a guy who's a former head coach helped but out with.
The defense he might not be the exact, defensive coordinator
but that guy's a defense. Of guru you got him in,
Your box you got him in coach anders. EAR that
i mean you talk about obviously.
Speaker 4 (01:33:09):
You're gonna have, good players but if you've got a,
great staff that's how you take it to the.
Speaker 1 (01:33:13):
Next level hearts and income plat trying to get it
to the Number Eight troy irvine on. Third down so
now on fourth and five they try to go wide
to the left Side And brady hart's are gonna. Be
stopped turnover on downs once again for This ported. Central

Job by he and his staff wouldgaint a six Game
waning street. Coming in they're gonna end the year at seven,

pricing or to find a location. Near you let's go
to their website at mkdfuneral home. Dot com, well coached
they jumped out eight nothing in the, opening quarter one
(01:36:54):
yard Touchdown Run. Nolan bloom question and you talked about
in your keys how it's a matter of let's just
keep the down and distance going to change, long drives stay.
On schedule they certainly, did that and then an eighteen
yard touchdown rub with their second, offensive possession And the
mustangs were. Often rolling the only thing they weren't able
to do on that second time is convert that two.
Speaker 2 (01:37:14):
Point, conversion yeah AND that's.
Speaker 3 (01:37:15):
I mean the offense was EVERY bite, i mean we
talked about the defense, in pregame but the offense was
every bit as good, as advertise led By cam noey
with his two touchdown runs of seven and. Eighteen yards
just an unbelievable performance by that. Young man and just
to see, that offense how they did. Stand scheduled you
got to talk About coach enners about those two, point
conversions but it, was, really really really the only downfall
(01:37:37):
of their offense. Right there very impressive by The Port at.
Central offense mustangs weren't.
Speaker 1 (01:37:41):
Done though in the second quarter their senior quarterback six
foot six fifty five yard touchdown run for Number twelve,
rylein McNally and that made it twenty to nothing at.
That Point Port at centric, you're, saying, Oh Boy, byron,
Center Well. Byron center in a fourth down situation late
in the half gets a strike through the air and
they needed It From, easton whitchers their senior quarterback to
(01:38:02):
campaign thirty one yards for that touchdown catch right at the.
Goal line, great dive he catch by paid extra point.
Was good that made it twenty. To seven some life
In the bulldogs. At halftime then, COMING out pc pitches a.
Shutout defensively two more scores they put on. The board
seven yard touchdown Run by noy the sophomore fullback did
(01:38:23):
a thirty two yard touchdown run to cap It By.
Wendell tomes he was the other back that had to
get in the action right number fifteen and that makes
your final thirty four to seven in Favor Of.
Speaker 3 (01:38:33):
Ported, central yeah and just again start. To finish very
good football Game By. Ported, central obviously we're looking a
little bit towards next week and thinking it's gonna Be
The Miskegan big Reds And. Ported, central boy that's gonna
be a. Heavyweight matchup, but man give Credit To ported.
Central tonight this was their night And coach enders and
his staff heck of a job.
Speaker 1 (01:38:52):

At Mkd funeral homes by creating distinctive celebrations of life
at the greatest possible value with your final scoring summary in. This,

the action after be in the studio all.

Ten Huttonville but rocker came, Right Back mark sta all
the way down to the three yard Line Where luca
hearn ran it in for. The score pata made it
a twenty one to. Seventeen game then a key sequence
in the fourth quarter was still twenty one seventeen time

(01:40:01):
while under ten and a half left in the, Fourth

the third touchdown reception of the Game For braydon Millard From,
van lake a beautiful diving catch in the corner of.
The end so that made it twenty eight. To seventeen

off a Pass from rockford ran it back twenty seven
(01:40:21):
yards for a score that made it thirty five to
seventeen in Favor. Of Hudsonville the rockford has not gone silently.
The night they've moved the ball all the way down
To the they're on the seventeen YARD when i got
the twelve yard Line, of hudsonville second down in ten trying.
To score they jump to the outside and then bring it,
