Speaker 1 (00:00):
High school football playoff action is on the air live
from Bob Perry Field at Red Aero Stadium in Lowell, Michigan.
It's the Ducks of Zealand West taking on the Red
Arrows of Lowell in the regional championship in Division three.
Hi'm an on Rick Burkey sitting in for Brett Paketa
tonight along with my old colleague Buck Gino to call
the action today, and we welcome you right away to
the J and H Family Stores pregame show, brought to

(00:23):
you by J and H Flaming Stores with now over
sixty locations across Michigan to serve you J and H
Family Stores stopping on the way home the next game,
we're on your way home. Zealand West comes in at
eight and three under coach Jeff Bullhouse, Lowell Red Arrows
nine to two under Jacob Heenegy. Lowell has won five
in a row and they're on a bit of a
heater right now. They've got the home field advantage. But

(00:43):
the first thing we must talk about, Buck Gino, is
it's great to be with you again. And also what
an incredible night for football weatherwise across West Michigan.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Oh, it's good to be back here with my old
buddy Rick Burkey. I think the last time we were
here Rick was the infamous lightning game with East Grand
Rapids and Lowell. It was it was a matinee on
Saturday morning and we came back, but it was an
exciting game.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
At that time.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
We saw then a future Spartan Keith Nickel at the
Helm for the lower Red Arrows and here at Bob
Perry Field at Red Aerro Stadium. Not much has changed
in those twenty years. Racket, the field is still grass.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
One of the few left still and across the area.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yes, absolutely, and yeah, it's just good to be with you.
And this is a great matchup between two pedigree championship
pedigree teams Zealand West At defending champions from last season
and now you have Lowell where people remember the Nole
Dean era. Jacob Enegy has done painstaking work to bring
the Red Arrows back to this level of football. So

(01:46):
it should be a dynamite matchup between two very good teams.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
You mentioned first year coach Cheff Fallalls taking over for
the legendary John Chilto who retired with that state title.
Always a big challenge trying to fill those kind of
shoes Buck.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, and I think Jeff has done an admirable job.
He's changed some things too, and that's something that I
really respect about him. A lot of people coming in,
it doesn't matter if you're coming in for a successful
coach or an unsuccessful coach or anywhere in between.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Changing things is tough.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Well, when you have a guy like John Shildeo, a
lot of people might be a little hesitant to change
what was such a great winning formula. But Jeff has
done that. He's made some changes in the offense and
all for the better. And I think Zealand West, even
though you look at their records six and three, their
schedule incredibly difficult during the regular season, and that was

(02:34):
proven because they go in their district. They were the
fourth seed in their district and they went to beat
the number one and the number two seeds Nile and
Saint Joseph convincingly.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
And on the road.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
This is going to be their fourth straight road game, Rick,
because they had Week nine to the game that Brent
and I did at West Catholic, and now they've played
three straight road games in the playoffs, and the Duckston
road Warriors. But again, I think this is gonna be
the biggest challenge they've faced since that game against West Catholic.
But Jeff Bowlhouse has done a fantastic job in taking

(03:08):
over his first year for John Chilton.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Take a look at the brackets. How these two teams
got here buck into Division three football bracket.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Well, you had Lowell being pushed down the district's got
really got jumbled up from what people thought they were
gonna look like. But Loll getting pushed into a southern
district with cold Water. They won that one convincingly, and
they kind of had a dog fight here last week
with TK Middleville coach Doc. They were down twenty one
nothing at halftime. He got his guys back up and

(03:38):
they ended up winning that one. Did Lowell twenty eight
to twenty one. So that game was a little bit
out of hand, but Middeville came back and was able
to make it close. As I mentioned Zeeland West going
down to beat Niles. That was the first perfect regular
season for the Vikings in forty six years. Well it
was a perfect regular season, but then Zealand West ended

(03:58):
that season with a thirty to twenty one and then
they traveled to Saint Joseph in the district final, beat
them handily forty eight to twenty four. And that's how
we've gotten the match up here. And if you look
at the bracket above for wole fans of familiar name
East Grand Rapids on the other side of the bracket,
along with Mount Pleasant, that game will be taking place
at Mount Pleasant Community Stadium tonight, also kicking off at

(04:20):
seven o'clock.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
So very exciting.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
I mean, can you imagine wrecking roll East Grand Rapids
State Semifinal? That would be a really, really interesting and
very well attended game.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
You are hearing us on Big One on one point

Shelby High School looks to keep a great football season
going for another week, and some of the top performances
from across the state are highlighted on TikTok. I'm John
Ross and this is This Week in High School Sports
powered by the Michigan Achievement Scholarship. Each week on our
social media channels and at MHSAA dot com, we highlight

(05:27):
a performance of the week. This week will be the
eleventh of the school year, and so far we have
had some very noteworthy accomplishments like Kate Posey of Big Rapids,
who carded her first hole in one on a golf
course and helped Big Rapids to a Central State Activities
Association title. Sam Schumacher who started the year twenty to
zero and tennis losing just one set total, who would

(05:49):
then go on to win the state championship at number
one singles in Division two. And how about Talia Shreeber,
across country runner from Pickford. She won a third straight
upper into the title in Division III while posting the
fastest time in UPD three history. The second and third
fastest times also belonged to Shrieber. More than their accomplishments,

(06:10):
performance of the week shines a light on the unique
personalities of these athletes, what's the best fast food pizza topping,
most used emoji, They've got opinions on everything. To see
those answers and this week's performance of the week, check
out the mhsaa's TikTok page or visit us online at
mhsaa dot com. It's time for game balls, when we

(06:32):
highlight a trio of standout performances from the past week. First,
the Battle Creek Harper Creek girls swimming and diving team
won the Southwestern and Central Conference championships, their first league
title in forty two years. Battle Creek Saint Philip won
a volleyball district title for a twenty six consecutive season.
Miley Grimm had twenty three digs and four aces in

(06:53):
district play for the Tigers, and East Kentwood quarterback Kage
kaufmin through for five touchdowns and added almost one hundred
yards rushing in a forty nine to forty one district
title win over Howell.

Speaker 5 (07:05):

Our Weekly be The Referee feature takes a look at
the fine art of officiating with registered official page winning.

Speaker 6 (07:44):
We're on the football field this week with twenty three
other players. Twenty three is one too many. There should
only be twenty two on the field at once, eleven
on offense, eleven on defense. But on this play, the
offense had a twelve player lined up on the field.
What's the call? It depends on when the penalty is spotted.
If the officials catch it before the play is run,

(08:04):
that's an illegal substitution in a five yard penalty. But
if the ball is snapped and a play is run
with twelve on the field and the twelve players not
attempting to get off the field, then it's a legal
participation in a fifteen yard penalty. It's also a fifteen
yard penalty if the offense uses a substitution to create
a deception.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
Thanks Page. Now more than ever, we need officials. If
you're interested, please go to the MHSAA website now to register.
It's been an exciting start to the football playoffs, as
regional finals are being played throughout the state this weekend.
Gailsburg Augusta qualified for the first time since nineteen ninety seven,
Manton qualified for the first time since twenty fourteen, and Shelby.

(08:46):
The Tigers not only qualified for the first time since
twenty thirteen, but have won two playoff games, including a
district title in Division seven, and have their eyes set
on more. Shelby went five and four this year, their
best regular season record since that twenty thirteen season. In
both twenty twelve and twenty thirteen, Shelby won eight and
one in the regular season and advanced to the Division

(09:06):
six semifinals. This year, they've already won two playoff games
on the road, beating Leroy Pine River in round one
in Harrison in the district final, and now they are
just two wins away from playing in the Division seven
final on Sunday, November thirty at that Ford Field. That
would mark their first ever appearance in the football final.
For more on the Shelby Tigers and how they've overcome

(09:27):
an injury to one of their quarterbacks and captured a
district title after five winless seasons in the last eleven years,
check out Tom Kendri's article found at MHSAA dot com
and to see the schedule for semifinals finals, or for

Speaker 7 (09:56):
We'll be back next week. W BFx Grand Rapids.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
We're getting close to kickoff here in Lowell, Zealand West
and Lowell for the regional championship. Here, the winner meets
the winner of the Mount Pleasant East Ground Rapids game
being played tonight in Mount Pleasant. Vandalan Home Improvement will
bring you the keys to the contest every week here
of our broadcast. With eighty years in the business, Vanderaln
Home Improvement offers top notch contractor services to customers in

(10:29):
West Michigan called six one six sixty six nine eleven eleven.
That's six one six sixty six nine eleven eleven for
more details or visit vander Lahn dot com. And here
with the vand Lon keys of the contest is but Gino.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Well first for the home Red Arrows. Logan Dawson clearly
the star on the offense. I feel like they're gonna
have to find some other cogs in the machine to
help them to victory tonight. Zealand West of very talented defense,
you know they're going to be king on the key
man Logan Dawson, get some other guys in the mix.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
For Zealand And West.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
What they have to do and we've had I've seen
them in Week nine against West Cathley. They really have
to limit the turnovers. That's what really hurt them in
the West Catholic game. They lost by two scores. They
had two turnovers, so that's two possessions that they lost
and that was to end up being the final margin.
So they've really got to clamp down on those. Because
a team like Zealand West a ball control offense. Yes,

(11:23):
they'd have some different wrinkles, but they still have the
same principles of John Chilto, which is, well, you can't
score if you don't have the ball, and so I
think that they're really gonna have to take care of
this one tonight because their possessions are very precious and
they don't want to give the ball back and a
couple extra times to a dangerous offensive team like Woll.
Speaking of Woll, Rick, Berkey sat down with coach Jacob

(11:44):
Heenegy earlier this week and talked a little shop before
tonight's game.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Jacob, first district crown and almost a decade since twenty
sixteen and playing for Regial Tire. Got to be a
lot of excitement in the school right now.

Speaker 8 (11:58):
Yes, there's all kinds of excitement with the players, coaches,
in the community.

Speaker 9 (12:03):
Just getting back to that.

Speaker 8 (12:05):
We felt like we've been close for the last few
years and finally being able to get over the top
felt really good.

Speaker 9 (12:10):
This past week.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
I want to take you back to week six. You
won four in a row, great start, then you dropped
two in a row to two really strong programs. Theater swings.
Kind of a Hills mindset at that time of your
team to keep it together, because that's a point where
a lot of teams can start to lose confidence. You
obviously did not.

Speaker 8 (12:27):
Yeah, you know, we just kept telling the kids, like
we just got to get better at the little things
and keep getting better and improving, and like you had
some goals of ours to win the RCA might be
far fetch now, which they were at the time, but
it's like we still have a lot of goals in
front of us. Lost two high quality teams. We just
didn't play our best game on that day. So we
just got back on the film and kind of decided

(12:49):
we're going to practice with a little bit more intensity
both sides of the ball and bring it a little
bit more in practice, just because we felt like we
could be better than what we were.

Speaker 9 (12:59):
During these two games. But hats off to those two programs.

Speaker 8 (13:02):
They just they executed and played better than us on
those two games.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
And your district championship game against t K up twenty
one to oho. Then they made a run at your
gat back right back in the game. That's a point
where I imagine you relied on your senior leadership at
that point.

Speaker 9 (13:16):
Yeah, we did.

Speaker 8 (13:17):
I felt like we responded well when it was twenty
one to fourteen. We punted, our defense actually got two
stops there. Then we had a nice six and a
half seven minute drive to go up two scores and
give them less than four minutes left down two possessions
to kind of like seal the game. I felt like
in a way they had to drive. They got another

(13:39):
one in and we recovered the on side and then
just ran the clock out from there. But yes, our
senior leaders did a good job, and we actually, like
right before the third quarter, brought them all together. He said,
take a deep breath, relax, breathe. We made some mistakes,
gave them some short fields. Were fine, just anchor back
in and do what we do.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Speaking of your final question, tell us about your senior quarterback,
Logan Dotson.

Speaker 8 (14:03):
What he means to your program. He's a competitor. He's
going to come out every play. Sometimes maybe he tries
to make it happen a little too much. We just
tell him, breathe, relax and let the game come to you.
But he does a great job of just competing on
every play.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Jacob Heenegy little head coach, thank you.

Speaker 8 (14:21):
Thank you, appreciate it, and go Arrows.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Thanks.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
We are getting closer and closer to kickoff. Nice job
at the start. Smangle Brown are during our break by
the Little Red Arrow Marching band. We're already for football here.
We'll get to starting lineup brought you by Sporting you
very quickly. But first of all we got to get
the opening kickoff here buck.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Yeah, both teams are ready and it's going to be
Zealand West kicking off. They will be going right to left.
Does anybody have a radio diarity Rick, I've got on.
I've got a couple of them. Well right in the theater
of the mind. Zealand West going up from right.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
To left, coming out on the left side to Heisman.
Heisman will take it. Now. It's gonna be Barney at
the right side. You're going to cross the thirty about
the thirty three yard he settled in. She mentioned Lowell's
got the red jerseys, white pants and black helmets and
the visiting Ducks of Zealand West all white with set
of dark blue numerals and the dark helmet.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Well, I mean we can at least see the numbers,
which in our career is rick doesn't always happen, so
this will be able to see.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
It's not given. Here's Logan Dawson, the quarterback, leading his
team out of the huddle on the sideline. Now he
sends three receivers to the right mark pulling his back
behind him in that pistol formation on the first snap,
and also got Mitchell Iike in the background with him
in the backfield with him as well. First down, give

(15:58):
to the first back through be keeping it as Dawston,
he's gonna be hit for a loss behind the thirty
four back about the thirty three yard line. Good surge
on the left side.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Well, Zealand West knew that they were gonna have feature
Logan do everybody knows they're gonna feature Logan Dawson. The
question is can you stop it? They didn't on that one.
Go for the faked Ike on the keep. Giantis back,
as Brett likes to say. So they have good pursuit
there and we're able to bring him down for a loss.
And if your role and really Zealand West negative players
that put you behind the sticks, those are gonna be

(16:28):
the things that really kill the drives because these offenses,
even though they can go for big plays, are not
designed to do so every play.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
This time, they'll give it on the right side to
Mitchell Ike, a junior running back off the right side.
He got to the line.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
SCA.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
That was about it. Now they're good surge defensively. So
two good stops by the Ducks on defense brings up
third and long. It's called a third down and about
eight for Lowell moving it left to right, right between
the stripes. On this gorgeous night for playoff football here
across West Michigan. I'll be across the entire state of Michigan.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Yeah, he couldn't ask for better weather.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
A great day today, almost sixty degrees and should be
a perfect fall night for football. Very contrasting to our
last couple of games. To count their prick.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Logan Dawson is thrown for over eight hundred yards this year,
fourteen touchdowns, winterception. He's back to pass in the pocket,
good protection, fires it long over the middle. It has
caught at the forty thirty five thirty and all the
way down to the twenty five yard line. Crue Heisman,
the sophomore receiver, on a beautiful ball from Logan Dawson,
all the way down inside the twenty five yard line,
first and ten rails. They'll spot it right at the

(17:35):
twenty five.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Well, they just lose contained.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Their safety didn't have help over the top and Heisman
gets behind the defense and Dawson puts it right in stride.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Beautiful throw by Logan.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
His first pass of the night is right on target.
He'll give it off the left side, this time for
Iike again and he breaks a tackle down to the
twenty fifteen ten to five touchdown Red rounds Mitchell Iike,
he was bombed up at the line of scrimmage. He
went right through two tacklers. Then he turned on the
jets coasted in touchdown Red arrows. They jump on top

(18:07):
six nothing quickly.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
Couldn't get a better start if you're LOLd and bring
a third and long and then getting the touchdown on
the next play, Ike breaking through and just no pursuit
over the top. With Zealand West sold out at the
line of scrimmage, Nike once he got past there with
smooth sailor.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Morgan Decaver's will attempt the pat boots. It's strong and
through seven nothing red arrows with ten oh four to
go in the first quarter, walk that big impressive drive.
As you said, Zealand West couldn't have done much better
on the first two snaps with a loss and then
a minimal gain and a third and long of that
beautiful ball though from Dawson to Heisman set up the

(18:44):
twenty five yard touchdown run that time by Mitchell. Iike,
you need a chance to even give you the sparry
starting lines brought it by Sporting. You you think it,
they'll ink it. They have what you need to look
your best. Creating a custom solution tailor to your specific needs,
whether it's bulk orders promotional items are a comprehensive companies
or find out more at Sporting the letter you dot com.
Buck a little bit late, but let's get some starting

(19:05):
lineups in there.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Well, we'll get Lowell's offense even though they're can be
out there anymore. They were supposed to start the game,
and they did. Across the line, Luke Frickey, Tommy Benedict,
Isaiah Seaman, Nash Darling and Oliver Sovie up front, Cam Kennedy,
Brady Smith and Crew Heisman the wide receivers, and then
Logan Dawson in the backfield, with Mark Poland and Mitch
Ike on the defense. For the Ducks cross frontline Eathan Malc,

(19:29):
Mason Myers, Brady Patrick and Jace Henry in the linebacking
corps Marshall Johnson, join A Leslie, Nico Munkoun and then
the defensive secondary Drew Albrecht tofa Semia, Brandon Holman and Logan.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Nash how the kickoff by Lowell's Decavers back in the
deep spot, Jonah Leslie and Brandon Holman also back there,
Kenny Howe for the Ducks. It's the side of his foot,

(20:05):
oh lout of bounds. It's just a shankdit The Kavers
just went off the side of his foot. It's going
to go out out of bounds and near the thirty
yard line. They'll move it up even farther than that.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
Yeah, Zealand West does have the option, but I think
they'll take it right at the thirty five penalty is
twenty five yards.

Speaker 10 (20:22):
From the point of the kitch.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Dude, so great.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
That's where they'll get it.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
And so they'll start at the thirty five trailing seven
to nothing. Here the ten o four mark of this
first quarter. After that electrifying twenty five yard run by
Mitchell ke he was twenty five right.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Yes, twenty five yards from Mitchell Akey, capping a four
play sixty five yard drive.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Now the complicated wing t offense for the Zealand West Ducks.
They'll go up the middle for a couple off the
right side to about the thirty eight yard line, maybe
the thirty nine. Nico Montcoon, the junior on the carry
that time, give him about four all let's call it five.

(21:08):
Good carry that time by Montcoon. He's picked up five
hundred and eighty yards and three touchdowns so far this
season on the ground for the Ducks of coach Jeff Bullhouse.
Second in a long five little shifts on defense, pitch
back to the second back. He's hit for a loss
back inside the forty yard line. Bennon Holman took the toss,

(21:33):
a little bit of a high toss, but he had
no place to go once he grabbed it, and we've
got a red arrow shaken up right away.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Barker.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Yeah, tough, tough stop for Holman as he got the
toss and there was good penetration. Nice job buying the
tackle by linebacker John Graham. But you mentioned the whole
player has been injured. We can't really see the number, unfortunately,
so we'll try to report that as you as we can.
But we're talking about starting lineup. No now the good

(22:01):
time has any to talk about the other side of
the ball for both teams. For the Ducks on the
offensive line Lachlan Thompson, Weston Headley, Jace Henry, Mason Myers,
and Eli Chavez.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
The tight end is Grady Patrick.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
The other side is Marshall Johnson, Drew All Breck at
the quarterback and he's joined in the backfield by Nico Munkoon,
Joana Leslie and Brandon Holman. For the defense of Lowell
up front, Carter Oxley, Weston McFarland and Brady Smith.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
In the defensive secondary.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Starting with the linebackers Callan Williams, John Graham, Dawson Morgan,
and Colton Barney. And then the defensive backs Graham, Bailey,
Brody Leman, Krew Heisman and Bryce Lieman. Coming off the
field is gonna be Culton Barney, number three.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
Key performer for the Red Arrows.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
Yeah, and it looks like he's doing okay, he's up
on his own power, but he does have his helmet off,
so monitor that closely.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Is now they're going to have to sub in on
defense coming Yes.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
No loss of one after that hit by Barney.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Yep, Yeah, it was a good head. I mean he
and Graham teamed up for the tackle. Don't know exactly
what happened back there, but now we're going to have
to have some substitutions thoroughly for the right air.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Third and six for the Ducks from their own thirty
nine yard line, direct snap out there to Holman going
to the right side. No, and it's not Holman, It
is a Nico Montcoon. No correction, it was Leslie. Number one.
Won't be the first, won't be the last time. Well,

(23:33):
I'm fooled by this. I mean offense.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Let the first tell you, folks, not only is the
regular tea confusing, but then when they start getting guys
to different guys taking the snaps, it gets really really difficult.
So Leslie on the direct snap up the middle of
that time, big game there gets the first down.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Man in motion to the left. They'll fake it. They
will keep it up the middle, breaking across the fifty
end to the Lowell territory. Nice runabout seth and that
time it was Jonah Leslie the senior. Four hundred and
forty three yards on the season and eleven touchdowns for Leslieue.
He picked up a nice game of about six and
a half on that one second down and three and
a half eight to twenty five and going in this

(24:13):
first quarter Lowell seven, Zealand West nothing on the twenty
five yard touchdown run by Mitchell Iike on the Red
Arro's first possession.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Now all Breck back under center and traditional tea set.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
Give off to the right side. This is Holman and
he got a couple maybe a yard. That's about it.
Mitchell Brandon Holman. He's the main man carrying the football
for the Ducks. Twelve hundred and eighty two yards, just
under seven yards of carry buck and fifteen touchdowns on
the ground already this season.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Well and Zealand West Ducks.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
That's where really their strength has come in through the years,
not just with John.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Schilder, but also Jeff Paul's house Bullhouses.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
They were able to spread the ball around. It's not
just one player. They spread the ball around and they
get it to different people. Make you defend multiple different
sets and ball carriers.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
All Breck under center, he gives it. The second back
threw off the left side. This is Leslie. Leslie close
to the first down. He keeps the leg driving. I
think he got it. He's very close. I thought he'd
just plowed enough. Jona Leslie with eleven touchdowns on the
ground for the Ducks this year. Let's see if we
need a measurement or are they gonna say, move the chains.
They're taking a long look and they say, you.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Know what, those guys move the chains. These guys come
volunteer every every week. Let him get out there and
at least come on. I mean, really, they probably just
get a hamburger for coming out.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
That's maybe it.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
That's probably it.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
I mean, let them go out there. Let everybody see.
Bring those sticks.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
Out first and ten Ducks at the low forty two
yard line right to left. They go with the all
white Unis black helmets, trailing by seven in the early moments,
long count give them the second back, dude, head for
a loss back at the forty three yard line. Good
surge on the right side of that defensive line by
the Red Arrows.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Yeah, they tried a little counter mention in the little
delay and roll with good penetration up front. Blew that
one up from the get go. Number fifty eight in there.
Carter Oxley, he was one of the main combatants up
there as a whole surge of red. But Carter getting
the first penetration and stopped up the Ducks.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Cold there.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Quarterback for Zealand West Drew albrouck Hiss rushed one hundred
and thirty nine yards and thrown for five hundred and
sixty eight and seven scores through the air. I don't
think John Schilotto had seven touchdown passes in a decade.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
I don't know about seven pence.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Second and twelve for the Ducks. They tried to get
the they need to get the reds. They did get
him a jump, so it's a five yard march off.
Get him a little closer. This first quarter brought to
you by Straight Line Fence, a fencing company, and Grand
Rapids with a personal touch, offering both residential and commercial
fencing projects. Call today for your free estimate at six one,
six four four three twenty five to fifty or visit
Straight Line Fences dot com.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Well that's another thing of the John Shiloh air that
has transcended into the Jeff Bullhouse era.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
The hard counts Zealand West very tricky. The tea.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
You gotta follow everybody around, and then they start going
to different snap counts. Just when you think he got
it timed well, then they go with the hard count
they get the three five yards.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
That's exactly what happened there.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Full house tea backfield with all brick under center on
first and tent sorry second and five. Give the second
back off the right side. This is Busker, Mason Busker,
the senior running back. A little over one hundred yards
on a carry. He leaped over one defender and moved
the chains for a first don So Zealand West responded
nicely to that opening touchdown by Lowell. They've driven the

(27:39):
ball from their own thirty five all the way down
to the Lowell thirty two first and ten Ducks right
to left.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Mason Busker didn't get a lot of run in the
game that we saw him in the regular season, but
capable running back.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
And that's what makes the Zealand West offense so dangerous.
They can bring in multiple ball careers and they fit
in seamlessly.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
All brecked along count over center on first down, gives
it to Holman off the right side. He breaks a
tackle of the old twenty fifteen ten to five touchdown
zealing West Brandon Holman from thirty nine yards out in
the Ducks get on the board.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
Well, that's just kind of a mirror image of the
ike run where he was met at the line of scrimmage,
breaks through the initial attack and then there's nobody in
support behind and Holman turns on the Jets. Now this
is where we get interesting, Rick, because feeling West, we
know they do not kick extra points. They always go
for two and so now the imbalance starts. Whether they

(28:40):
make it or miss it, somebody is going to still
have the lead after this play.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Here they go on the pat from the three yard line.
All break along. Count drops back to pass, he's rolling left,
he's looking. He fires at the back of the end zone.
It is caught for the conversion, making the catch in
the back of the end zone, Brandon Holman for the
two points and the Ducks take a eight to seven league.
You got a player. Now we will take a break

(29:06):
time out on the field with five ten to go
in the first quarters. Zealand West eight Lowell seven. You're
listening to the LMCU high School Football Game of the
Week here on Big one O one point three FM.

Speaker 11 (29:20):
Joint inside the ninety six one the game studios of
our high school football game of the Week eight seven
Zealand West Leeds.

Speaker 9 (29:26):
Loll A guy's getting in action.

Speaker 11 (29:28):
First over in Division four Unity, Christian capitalizes on a
big Rapids fumble.

Speaker 9 (29:33):
The Crusaders strike first. They're up eight nothing.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
Guys, all right, thank you Joe Aeron, keeping an eye
on the other games around the stadium again, around the
state and around the area. Zeland West with that touchdown
and two point conversion takes an eight to seven lead,
and we've got another Red Aero shaken up, still down
on the field right now. The winner of this game
takes on the Mount Pleasant East Grand Rapids winner going
on right now in Mount Pleasant. So where that game

(29:58):
will be played, we don't know. It will be on
a Saturday week from tomorrow, we do know that. And
getting help off the field right now, it looks like
Eli Tower, the sophomore.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
Oh it's Nash Darling.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
I'm sorry, I apologize the.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
Field And that's the second one already for loll and
you don't really want to test the depth of your team,
but this is also where that comes into play.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
If you guys get reps during the regular season.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
You hate to see kids go down, of course, not
anything that you hope happens, but that's where the preparation
comes in. And now Jacob Penegy two guys, I do
see Barney coming back out in the kickoffs, So that's
a good time for the Red Arrows. But now they'll
have to maybe put somebody in for Darling, depending on
his condition. But capping that scoring drive for Homan, nine

(30:50):
plays sixty five, it's four minutes and fifty four seconds
for the Ducks. And then Holman with the touchdown run
and then the two point conversion reception, putting the Ducks
up top eight to seven. Here midway through the first.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
Quarter, kickoff coming up short and grabbed by the upman
across the thirty five and the forty. It brought down
a forty one yard line, kicked it away from the
deep and by design, I believe that time and first
and ten Lowell trailing eighty seven, has very good field
position to start did second drive of the game. First
time they took it, marched it all the way down.
Beautiful pass play and the front quarterback Logan Dawson at

(31:27):
the crew Heisman got him down to the twenty five
where Mitchell Aiki dashed it in for there. On the
very first next play, Dawson over center with that I formation,
he will give it to the first back through across
the forty four maybe to the forty five yard line,

(31:49):
pick up about four on a next game, that was
Mitchell Aike who ran the touchdown pass. Hike now over
five hundred yards on the season, again a very impressive
seven yard carry plus average. Well.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
As I mentioned Rick, I mean, Logan Dawson did all
everything quarterback for Loll.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
You know they're gonna be key on him.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
It's gonna have to be the guys like Mitch Ike
in the backfield, and Marrek Poland and even the receivers
Krue Heisman. Those are the guys are gonna contribute today
if role is gonna come out on top.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
Hitting the backfield and dropped for losses, Logan Dawson, boy,
I'll tell you what, he had no chance at all.
He wanted to give it to a back, but he
never had a chance. He was hit all the way
back in the forty three yard line. Loss of a
couple brings up third and long for Loll.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Yeah, it looks like they were trying to get maybe
Zealand West a little bit off their guard by showing
past there, but good penetration by the Ducks fighting off
the block. I mean that man was getting blocked and
he was able to bring Dawson down. Also good contained
to not let him get outside of the pocket. So
really good defensive job by the Ducks early against Logan Dawson.

(32:56):
But that offense has contributed seven points because of the
contributions of other players so far.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
Sophomore Bryce Leman in the game, back to pass and
rolling out his Dawson looking, he throws it long down
the sideline and it is battered away beautifully. Good quick
hand that time by number six Brandon Holman, who got
one hand. It looked like the pass was right on
the mark. Holman jumped up slapped it away in a
punny situation for Lowell on fourth down and long.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Well, that's why the box scorers don't tell you everything
about the game.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Wreck. I mean, Logan Dawson. You're looking at the stats
and you're thinking, man.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
He doesn't pass that much. He got only eight hundred yards.
Maybe he doesn't throw it that Well, I'm telling you
right now, I'm the move. Throw that ball right on
the mark. Terrific coverage by Holman there. Yes it was
double coverage, but it was a very good ball by Dawson,
and it took a really good play by Holman and
knocked that down and the Red Arrows are not forced to.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
Holmans punts away to all breck back to receive and
he will take it at the fair catch at the
twenty yard line. First and ten Red Arrow or Ducks
rather leading Lowell eight seven with three thirty one to
go on our first quarter.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
It's kind of slowed down a little bit after that
those first two drives. Hole now taking a stop and
having to punt the football away. We'll see what Zealand
West has here. On their second offensive drive. We saw
a mix of everything. We saw the traditional T formation
that John Schilto was so famous for here at Zeland
West along with his other stops, and we also saw

(34:26):
the multiple offense or many different guys were taking staffs.
Right now, we've got all Breckton Holman back in that format,
that double direct stamp formation.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Yeah, the center can snap it to either one. It's
that's extremely confusing. If you give it to all Brecket
he's gonna give it. No, it's gonna go the other way,
to the right side, open to the thirty five forty
forty five fifty forty thirty twenty ten five touchdown Zealand
West from eighty yards away. Brandon Holman got to the

(35:01):
outside and showed incredible acceleration and just zip down the
sideline for eighty yards and another score for the Ducks.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Well, they snap it to Alibrecton who immediately then hands
off to Homer and a great job of blocking on
the right side of that offensive line for the Ducks
to open a lane, and then Holman just kicks.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
It into high gear.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Really was not contested at all and he was able
to get into that lane and motor on down the
sideline for the touchdown. Big play for the Ducks, the
first one of their night. And now they go ahead,
and they're going to go for two again. To try
to press this to a multiple possession game.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
Albrecht will call it on the pat from the three
yard line. He will give it off the right side,
and he did not get in. He went to jonah
Leslie who was hit at the two and then dropped
at the one. But Brandon Holman has both scores for
the Ducks from thirty nine yards out, from eighty yards out,

(36:00):
and at three twenty to go in the first quarter,
it is Zealand West fourteen. Lowell seven. You're listening to
the LMCU High School football Game of the Week here
on Wig one on one point three FM.

Speaker 9 (36:15):
All right back inside the nine six won the game.

Speaker 11 (36:17):
Studio Zealand West now leads Low fourteen to seven in
our game of the week.

Speaker 9 (36:20):
In Division four, Unity.

Speaker 11 (36:22):
Christian has now tacked on another one on a fourteen
yard run by Jared de Reese. The Crusaders lead Big
Rapids sixteen to nothing. And in Division five the West
Catholic Falcons strike first. They lead Kalamazoo United seven zero.
Back to you Buck.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
And brick.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
Kickoff bobbled in the back. Now it goes behind the
receiving man and it's all kinds of pursuer for Zealand West.
So good chick kickoff coverage by the Ducks that time
put Zealand West back quite a ways.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
Well you the.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Jack Benny music, because we had the fumble, We got
a flag flying in late we got chaos here at
Bob Perry Field, at Retro Stadium.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
There's a holding call.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
After all, it's gonna march Lowe even farther back.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Man, just a tough break there.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
And now if you're a loll you gotta kind of
get things the ship kind of back on the right
path after that big run by Holman and now the fumble.
Not good field position for them. They're gonna start inside
their own ten after the holding call. It looks like
the seven, maybe the eight, call it the eighth.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Rely on senior quarterback Logan Dawson fifty eight percent completion
percentage for over eight hundred yards throwing the ball that's
going into night. He will give it up the middle
of plow across the ten about the twelve yard line
with it was Nike on the carry who scored the

(37:43):
touchdown earlier for Low you know, getting about six and
a half on that one scull a second down three
and a half for Lower.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
Ye was getting much ground there Rick, but all of
a sudden he makes a little burst and gets ahead
almost to the fifteen yard line.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
So that's what they're gonna need for get out from
the shadow of.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Their own goal post and try to counter what Zealand
West has done so far here in the first quarter.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
Colton Barney in the backfield. Now they will give it
instead up the middle of Dawson will keep it and
he's not backwards. They'll give his forward progress close to
the first time. I think he's about a yard shy
about third and one for Lowell at the seventeen yard line.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Well, he had forward progress like you mentioned.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
But then everybody, I think and the band jumped in
on the pile for Zealand West and throw him back.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
But he did.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
I mean, he's almost there again, Rick, It's so close
you think they might measure it, but they're gonna say
he's just short.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
Celand West fourteen Lowell seven clock, moving under two minutes
to go in this first quarter. Let's see if Logan
Dawson just keeps it on the sneak. No, he's out
of the pistol formation, so actually in the shotgun he
will give it to the left side. The carry that
time is Mike Mitchell. Heike, he got across the line
of scrimmage, got the first down. Nill knock him backwards,
but give him his first down. Let me change correct that.

(39:07):
That is Colton Barney on the carry. Barney the senior.
He's rushed for over one hundred yards as well as
catching eight passes in through the air, but he picked
up the first down. There moves the chains final ninety
seconds of this first quarter.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Then, well, pretty fast moving first quarter. Both teams don't
stop the clock very many times, like to be run oriented.
We've seen some passing, but again both these teams right
now playing to their strength, which is being on the ground.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
They'll give it to pulling up the middle. Got a
nice block across by the center. He gets across the
twenty five to the twenty nine, maybe the thirty yard
and he picked up a first down. Boy, a heck
of a block by the center for Lowell that time,
moves the chains first and ten red arrows blocking.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Now they're gonna go with the little temple. I feel
like they've got the ducks on their heels.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
Under a minute to play, Dawson. We'll give it to
this first back through on the carry of that time
as Mitchell Ike again got just a couple bring up
a second down and about eight fourd mole Trailium Zealand
West fourteen to seven with thirty seconds to go in

(40:22):
this opening quarter here at Bob Harry Field at red
Aero Stadium in Lowell, on this gorgeous knight, football fans
very comm late arriving, but the Zealand West side has
filled up about ninety percent. The Lowell side is about
ninety eight percent full.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
I would say, yeah, it's it's Christmas in the roll downtown,
so there's there's a little bit of a traffic chant.

Speaker 1 (40:43):
That's a big deal. That's a big deal.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
Yeah here, Oh will not run another play, so that
will be the end of the first quarter.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
With the score Zealand West fourteen Lowell seven. Back with
the second quarter. This is the Drive to Ford Field
Regional Final action presented by vander Lon Holman I provement
here on Big one on one point three FM. Second
quarter on tap here Rick Brookie sitting in for Brett
Pakida along with Bucks you know. Regional final from Lowell

(41:14):
High School and Division three Zealand West leads it over
Lowell fourteen to seven. We start this second quarter. Lowell
has the football and there's a flag just at the
snap and be of procedure penalty against Lowell.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Yeah, they're going from the pistol there, trying to get
a quick pass out into the flat and a little
movement early and that's going to drive coach Hennegy crazy,
not only because of the pre sttam pal but they
came out of the time out at the quarter break.
That's probably the most frustrating part about it. And now
that puts yet second down in thirteen.

Speaker 3 (41:42):
And as I.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
Mentioned before, neither of these teams really feel comfortable behind
the six that the other teams really do. But for
these offenses, it's just a little bit tougher with the
ground based attack that they like to run.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
For you out of counters on down Orchard Lake Saint
Mary tied seven and seven at the end of first quarter,
so we covered all buck in town, out of town.
Dawson hands up to the first back through to the
thirty yard line, got the penalty yards back coming up
third down and about.

Speaker 3 (42:16):
Ten aike, I think, so here I.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
Worse so far. Let's called a third down and nine
for Lowell down by seven in the first minutes of
this second quarter.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Here, well, this is a critical one for Lowell here
if they they were able to convert on the first
drive of the game that got them to their only score.
So they're gonna have to convert here because they really
don't want to give the ball back so fast to
Zealand West. After the hot start on offense for the Ducks.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
Three receivers to the right for Dawson who's rolling to
the right looking, he fires a little flat pattern and
it's nearly intercepted. It might have been picked off. It
was intercepted by Zealand West. A little flare pass just
across the line of scrimmage picked off, had about the
thirty seven yard line. So the Ducks get it back
in Lowell territory and great field position. Here is also
a flag down, So let's listen to our official and

(43:11):
see if we get the explanation and see if the
interception stands for Zealand West. A big call here.

Speaker 3 (43:24):
In the West. I couldn't tell who was on the interception.
We believe believe it was number eleven Tovid Semi. He
was the one that was holding the ball.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
So guess why he's but a tremendous play there by Semi.
And now a big swing in field position and momentum
with the Ducks now with the one scorer lead and
also knocking on the.

Speaker 1 (43:49):
Door hand off up the middle off the right side.
I think this is Holman again. And Holman been the
workhorse so far. Why not. He's got a twenty thirty
nine yard touchdown run and an eighty yard gallop to Peyter.
Give him about four on that one call it second
six for the Ducks of Zealand West between the hashes

(44:13):
second down a long five or a short six.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
Role is gonna have to come up with something here,
as Zealand West really has a lot of momentum.

Speaker 1 (44:21):
Kept by the quarterback Leslie. On the snap, he'll get
across the line of scrimmage and get close to the
first time. He's gonna get it. Boy, they move that
that snap all around there. Jonah Leslie took the direct
snap adjacent to the quarterback and he took off the
left side of that line, got a nice block, picked
up the first down. Zealand West on the move once again.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
I'm telling you, Rick, I mean the regular offense they
run is confusing enough, but then they bring in this
new style, these new personnel sets, and Eveland West is
a dangerous football team offensively right now, roll reeling a
little bit.

Speaker 1 (45:00):
Rex snap again to Leslie off the left side. He
got about five maybe six, didn't it, boy? This team again,
as Bucks said in the pregame show, fourth straight game
on the road for the Zealand West Ducks, West Catholic, Niles,
Saint Joseph and Lowell. They lost to West Catholic twenty
eight sixteen, but they beat Niles and Saint Joseph in
the tournament thirty to twenty one forty eight twenty four,

(45:21):
and they lead the home standing Lowell Redinals right now
fourteen to seven. With a second and five at the
arrow of sixteen direct snap off the right side, this
is Holman again turning round, turns the corner to ten
to the five to two to the one touchdown Zealand
West from sixteen yards out, Brandon Holman's third touchdown of
this first half.

Speaker 2 (45:42):
A great job there by Holman. The play was getting
stretched out to the boundary. Zealand West tried to get
out there and seal it off. Wasn't able to do
it quite as successfully as they wanted to, but holding
with that speed, they able just to get the corner
just an and then tip toe down the sideline and

(46:02):
between the pylon into the end zone for six.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
They will go for two and try to add to
their thirteen point lead with nine to thirty two to
go in this first half. Gave up the middle and
romping into the end zone easily is Brandon Holman behind
some great blocking. Almans made some good runs at that
time it goes all to the offensive line. Buck fantastic.

(46:29):
Nobody touched him, so he went in the end zone
for his second two point conversion. Ran at Homan went
three touchdowns to two point conversions. That's a good season
for a lot of folks. Buck, and he's got three
touchdowns and a pair of conversions already, and we've got
over half of the second quarter still to go.

Speaker 2 (46:47):
Yeah, Holman, he's got all the points.

Speaker 3 (46:50):
I mean, it's a pretty good night.

Speaker 2 (46:52):
But all right now they're a little bit gobsmacked, the
home crowd, a little defeated, and probably the first time
in a while, and probably since the Kenawa Hill excuse me,
the Cedar Springs game.

Speaker 3 (47:05):
Then ken of that the role has faced a deficit
at least.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
This far into the game. So Jacob Penegy and his
staff going to have to write the ship. The one
thing is if they can get a touchdown here, they
do get the ball at the beginning of the second half,
so or excuse they kicked the ball away at the
beginning the second half, So off New Zealand West. You
know you've got the ball coming to you just start
the second half, which means that you got the hammer

(47:32):
a little bit, so Roll has got to be careful
leaving too much time on the clock.

Speaker 1 (47:38):
A squib kick coming up about the thirtieth scrabbed by
an upman to the thirty thirty five running wide to
the left. Nice return off up the thirty six yard
line was that seven was Graham Bailey the senior picked
that up and made a nice little return across the
thirty five yard line. Yeah, I think a good point, Bark.

(48:01):
It's yeah, it's important to try to score here, but
I think mostly they need to use up some clock
and give your defense a little bit of a rest
because they've had a heck of a first half as
far as fatigue factor.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
Yeah, and that's you got a couple of guys playing
on both sides of football. So I just need to
have a good salad possession here, not only to take
some time off the clock, but get some confidence back
and a little bit shaking right now because Logan Dawson
has been pretty much shut down.

Speaker 1 (48:27):
Direct snap to Logan Dawson, he'll turn into the center.
Now he jumps to the outside and gets across the
thirty five. But the thirty eight or not, maybe the
thirty nine gonnadjustment that time by the senior Logan Dawson,
five to eight hundred and sixty five pounder. The play
was designed to go off tackle. He went there, he
was all bobbed up, so he just jumped to the
outside up got him out to the forty yard line.

(48:47):
Give him about five second and five for the Red
Arrow's clock. Movie. No, it's stopped when he went out
of bounds. Nine to twenty to go. First half cel
on the West twenty two Lowell seven. Red Arrow sent
two receivers out wide to the right on second down
and five.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
A good game there by Dawson on first down gets five.
That's what they need out of their quarterback.

Speaker 1 (49:08):
Give it the first back through for the line, and
it's about it. Mitchell Ike took it in. Boy, he
was hammered right way.

Speaker 2 (49:17):
He took it. And then he took it because I
mean he got the ball and almost immediately met at
the point of attack by that Zealand West defense.

Speaker 3 (49:25):
And now third down and five again.

Speaker 2 (49:28):
For Roll it's just got if you even if you
get one or two there, Rick, it's a little different
ball game as far as the play calling. But now
third and five especially, you know, still in your own territory.
Gotta be careful. Had the interception the last time they
got turned into points, so gotta be careful here.

Speaker 3 (49:50):
He said.

Speaker 1 (49:50):
They'll run it up the middle with Dawson. He breaks
a tackle and he got the first down. Good second
effort by Dawson that time. Showed you that senior leadership
we were talking about. Takes up the first down, moves
to change for low bit much needed the well.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
He didn't have the first down when he made first
contact with the defense, but a little spinner rama gets
back to the outside of the field and turns on
the speed, gets ten yards.

Speaker 1 (50:14):
He goes to ike up the middle. He'll break one tackle,
jump to the outside, gets across the forty five onto
the forty two yard line. Actually, that's yeah, that's Mitchell iike.

Speaker 3 (50:24):
Down.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
Good run there by Aike. I think where they've had
the success wreck is when they're getting when they're getting contact,
they're able to go laterally because that is Eland West
defense really clogs it up at the point of attack.
If they can break a tackle and get to the
inside of the outside, that's where the lanes will open up.

Speaker 1 (50:43):
They'll go to the left side. Dawson each got a
first down, took a big hit out of bounds and
there's a flag. Yeah, it looked like it might have
been beyond the stripe there that time. He picked up
the first down on the play. But now he's gonna
get fifteen more.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
Yeah, and that's that's an unfortunate penalty for Zealand West
because the player really wasn't aiming to hit DAWs and
he was just kind of running through him. But I mean,
he's just so far about that one. You got to
peel off there. You gotta have a little bit more
of awareness.

Speaker 3 (51:10):
And so that's gonna be a fifteen yard penalty.

Speaker 2 (51:12):
Added on to the end of the rud And now
Zealand West is starting to feel the pressure a little.

Speaker 3 (51:17):
Bit on defense.

Speaker 1 (51:20):
March off the fifteen all the way down to the
twenty six yard line, or make that the they haven't
marched it off yet all onto the twenty one yard line.
First and ten red arrows.

Speaker 3 (51:32):
That looks good, right about.

Speaker 1 (51:34):
That, that's good spotted. Call it pulling in the backfield.
They will give it to pulling off the right side.
He gets across the twenty to about the fifteen yard line,
Merrick pulling the senior five eleven and seventy five pounds.
He's over seven hundred yards on the season now nice
six and a half yards per carry average, and he

(51:56):
scored five touchdowns on the ground for Jacob Hennedy's arrow
give him about seven on that one second down and
three with two receivers right, one to the left.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
Good job here by the red arrow is good response
so far in this drive.

Speaker 1 (52:10):
Dawson will keep it on the bootleg to the right side,
tries to turn the corner. He breaks one tackle, but
he's run down before he can get to the chains.
I believe it's pretty close. Maybe he did, but at
a good speed by Logan Dawson. It's the first time
he's really been able to get to the outside. And
we then use that great speed that he has.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
Well, they said it was close enough and he does
look like he has it at the eleven.

Speaker 3 (52:30):
So a couple things. Number One, they can get.

Speaker 2 (52:32):
A touchdown, excuse me, a first down without scoring a touchdown.
But now brings up first fresh set of downs for
the red arrows.

Speaker 1 (52:45):
Clock moving under seven minutes to go in this first half.
Lowell trying to cut into this two touchdown deficit. He
gives it to America in the inside. Who plows for
two or three, they'll knock him backwards, but he still
got forward progress to about the six yard line. Marrek
pulling the senior good second effort that time because he
was hit initially at the line of scrimmage, but kept

(53:06):
the legs driving for about five or six. Twenty two
to seven. Zealand West with a lead, but Lowell knocking
on the door in the red zone of Lowell.

Speaker 3 (53:15):
This will be a big question here.

Speaker 2 (53:16):
Yeah, I mean gotta get I mean, you feel like
this one, especially with the way Zealand West is performing offensively,
reck you feel like if you'r ll this is four
down territory, not only because it's so close to the
goal to go, but because you feel like you gotta
keep pace with how well the Ducks had played offensively
so far.

Speaker 1 (53:34):
Sophomore Bryce Leman in the lineup now for Lowell on
second down and six, keeping it as Dawson around the
left side. He faked it to the first back and
then he pulled it back out, got across the fire
to the fort here and comes a late flight. Somebody
might have jumped on the pile for Zeland West. Yeah,
now they're unfortunate penalty.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
Yeah, that was another one that's after the play, and
if you're coach Bowlhouse, that's this kind of stuff that'll
just drive you up. The ball got them stop and
that not only is it a penalty, but give you
an automatic first down. Now where they're at doesn't really
change a whole lot, but it does put a fresh
set of downs on the sticks. And now they're gonna
be first and goal inside the five.

Speaker 1 (54:13):
Yeah, it would have been third and two without the penalty.
They're conversing the officials altogether here, so I'm not sure
why if there's more involved than I thought, Let's check
it out.

Speaker 2 (54:37):
Oh so I guess it's not an automatic first down
because they didn't get the yard the line the game.

Speaker 1 (54:45):
I'm confused, very confused.

Speaker 2 (54:48):
And I thought that personal fouls were an automatic first down,
but we learned something new every day.

Speaker 1 (54:56):
Personal foul is an automatic first down, one would think,
But for Lowell it's second and one according to what
the Lowell brother have.

Speaker 3 (55:05):
This, Yeah, I mean they'll take either one.

Speaker 1 (55:06):
Second and one is better than first and goal.

Speaker 3 (55:10):
Right, because that they can get it inside the one
yard line.

Speaker 2 (55:12):
They get a whole new fresh right in theory.

Speaker 1 (55:13):
You could take seven snaps since you know and before
they scored. Here Dawson will give it to the second
back through applows to the one Leaches forward. Did he
get in I don't think he got in there. He
got to the one. He he moves the chains. It'll
be first and now they call touchdown Lowell.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
Boy baited breath is what the loll home crowd had.

Speaker 3 (55:38):
Aike lurged across the goal iron.

Speaker 2 (55:40):
That's what they tell us.

Speaker 3 (55:44):
Long delayed signal there.

Speaker 2 (55:45):
But that's a tremendous response by the Red Arrows after
going down twenty two to seven, the interception of their
own territory.

Speaker 1 (55:56):
Mitchell Ike with a two yard ron and the pat
is up and good. It is twenty two for Zealand West,
fourteen for Lower Back with the kickoff here on the
LMCU High School Football Game of the Week on Big
One on one point three. Low counters with an impressive

(56:20):
drive and a touchdown Mitchell Key two yard run and
it's Zealand West twenty two to Low fourteen the five
to seventeen mark of this second quarter.

Speaker 2 (56:29):
All these possessions just getting more and more important for
both teams. Now all getting back within one score. But
Zealand West it's scored on all three of their possessions
and Oll now has to find a way to solve
that puzzle that has been so far of the Ducks offense.

Speaker 1 (56:47):
For that, the little squib kick, it's a live ball
down there and it's falling on alertly by the upman
for Zealand West. I think falling on it for the
Ducks that time was Logan Nash on the kick return team.
Good heads up play by Nash.

Speaker 10 (57:05):
Well.

Speaker 2 (57:06):
I've seen, Yeah, Zealand West in the regular season. Clearly
the Lols special team's staff, Jacob Hendigy believe that there's
a very large danger to kicking it deep and so
they're doing so. But what that's doing also at the
sacrificing field position, is Zealand West starting at their own
thirty nine terrific field position for an offense and right

(57:28):
now is homing on all cylators.

Speaker 1 (57:30):
Yeah, as you said, three possessions, three touchdowns and they've
got an eight point lead. First out handoff off the
right side on the carry, I think that was Randon
Holman on the carry. He got about three to the
forty two yard line. Second down and seven three for
Zealand West.

Speaker 3 (57:51):
Here there's not a lot of urgency.

Speaker 2 (57:53):
And the reason I say that is because they're getting
the ball to start the second half. So this is
where you get that two for If you can go
down and get a score here, if you're the Ducks
and then you get the ball right back, that's a
really big turning point in this football game. So its
Zealand West trying to set up themselves for success with this.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
Drop snap off the left side. This is Leslie on
the carry and he is hit at the line. He'll
knock you backwards to give him to the line of
scrimmage maybe a yard, but no room for Jonah Leslie
at all.

Speaker 2 (58:27):
Well, this is where we start to see Zealand the
West maybe going back to that traditional team formation that
they've known for so long, could play there in the
middle of the line for Lowell out the fifty eight.
Carter Oxley. He's doing a tremendous job today. Lots of
Oxley in the action.

Speaker 1 (58:46):
Third down, rolling to the right, and this is Holman
on the carry. You got across the line of scrimmage.
You got about half what he needed to be fourth
down at their own forty seven it's gonna be about
fourth down and two bucks. Not an easy decision for
coach Jeff Bullhouse.

Speaker 2 (59:04):
Well, the one thing is typically all Brecks is the punter,
and because he is leaving, that could narrow the options down.
We'll see if they do a quick kick with Leslie, they.

Speaker 3 (59:18):
Have that play in the bag.

Speaker 2 (59:19):
But now Leslie coming back in to take the stamp,
at least that's what it looks like it's gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (59:25):
Leslie and Albreck both back then we got movement that's
going to make the decision easier.

Speaker 2 (59:28):
Cow everybody was moving on the wall defensive side, but
not across the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
And now there was multiple.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
Players on Zealand West then moved early and that's going
to make the decision significantly easier for coach Bullhouse. I
think now with Ali Breck coming back in, like I said,
he is the punter, so when he left, they kind
of put their hand out there what they wanted to do.
But now with that falls start probably gonna go with
the pun here.

Speaker 1 (59:55):
Well they're not showing pun formation, that does not mean
they're not gonna punt.

Speaker 3 (59:58):
Well, they've got that tight one personnel.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Fourth down to seven. Now they back up. This will
be a pooch punt. They hadn't moveing on the line. No,
it won't matter. There was nobody back. The punt would
have shanked out near the twenty yard line. But they're
gonna be another procedure penalty. We'll make it. Instead of
fourth and seven, it's gonna be fourth and twelve for
the Ducks.

Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
Wow, that's just a breakdown discipline wise for the Ducks.
I mean, the first one we almost kind of understand
they're trying to get a jump on the play. It's
fourth and two. It's a big play. But this one
fourth and seven, and yes, it is loud here. I
mean that's one of the things about home field advantage.
There's very few schools where you can say there's the

(01:00:38):
big home field advan, but one of them is right
here and Lowell. The crowd gets into it here at
Bob Perry Field, and it's clearly readily the Ducks offense.

Speaker 1 (01:00:47):
True. Albreck now he's not in punp formation yet. I'm
sure we'll see him shift into it. Colton Barney back
in punt. We see formation toward the red arrows. There's
the kick high kick, not real deep towards the sideline,
and it's gonna be out of bound, so it takes
an nice hop stays inbounds. It hit right by the sideline,
then kick inside or did a touch? Did skip out?

Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
They are gonna say it did hit out out of bounds.
It looks like they're gonna market their out to thirty two.
So that a great punt there for the Ducks. But
I mean ten yards of that rick is penalties. I
mean even if he has the same kick two downs
ago or two attempts of downs ago, it's another ten
yards in field position. And I said this at the beginning.

(01:01:28):
The field position for this game is gonna be very important.

Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
And so far as healand West up to now has
won that battle.

Speaker 2 (01:01:35):
But well, slowly, slowly starting to pull you down.

Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
Pulling an ike in the backfield on first down, keeping
in his quarterback Dawson around the left side, turns the
corner across the thirty five maybe the thirty seven yard
line pick up of about four and a half for
Logan Dawson. I'll tell you what they'd love nothing better.
Sure they love the score, Buck, but I think their
main thought now is don't get the ball. Back to

(01:02:01):
Zealand West for this half.

Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
Well correct, I mean, obviously scoring would be tremendous for
them if you're able to do so with almost no
time in the clock. That's probably a perfect scenario for
coach Hennegee because the Ducks get the ball back to
start the second half.

Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
Give to Pullman off the left side. He breaks a tackle,
got a first down in more out near Mitchell. He
breaks a tackle in the forty thirty five thirty and
he's brought down on an ankle tackle. He almost took
it sixty three yards to the house. Mary pulling the senior,
great open field running there.

Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
It's a good job again breaking a tackle, getting lateral.
Now they're gonna got Tempa first down.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
Give to the first back. Threw across the thirty to
about the twenty six yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
Bogan Dustin forgot to let go of the ball. I
think he took him.

Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
And the ball and the ball for forty yards.

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
Call her to pick up a four second down and
six for Lowell movement and right to left.

Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Just a big play there.

Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
I had roll a thirty three yard run five Marrick
Pullend now has them within striking distance and the crowd
that was a little self sacked a few minutes ago.
Is now right back in it.

Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
Dawson in that pistol formation. Since Barney out to the right,
Dawson will take it. He stumbles as he sets forward,
lost his balance. There was a little space there, Buck,
but he lost his footing. I don't know if it
was a little wet out there from the cold that's
finally settling in here.

Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
Yeah, and you can see with the lights here, just
enough moisture in the air. It's probably getting a little
slick down there on the field with the due point
starting to fall.

Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
And well spent time out by the way by Jacob Hennegy,
he's gonna be a third down and six. They're definitely
in four down territory here with just fifty three seconds
to go in this first half. Don't forget to stay
with us at halftime. The whole steps in physical therapy
halftime show tonight's players have worked hard to get their
bodies ready for competition and whole steps and physical therapy
wants you to stay in the game no matter what

(01:04:00):
level of activity you desire. They get patients in within
twenty four to forty eight hours, halts Jepson physical therapy,
restoring body, reviving spirit. I can speak from firsthand experience.
They are top notch folks as Ken Brett Bikita. All right, Buck,
this has gotta be We're gonna look back the end
of this game. This is the key sequence here for
both teams.

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Yeah, it's like you said, they're in that gray zone
twenty to forty yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
You can't really punk from their field.

Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
Goals probably out of the question, especially with the footing
maybe starting to get a little more treacherous. So you know,
you've got two plays to make six yards here if
you're a loal And Zealand West. So they can stand
up to the task. They'll get the ball back with
a little bit of time on the clock as well.

Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
But roll right now.

Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
With the momentum Dawson's got pulling with him, he will
give it to pulling off the left side. He's got
a first down to the twenty to the fifteen. Freak's
a tackle to the thirteen and twelve all the way
down to the ten yard line. Won a hard driving
run by Merrick pulling the senior.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
Great effort by pulling, but also tremendous blocking on the
left side of that line, big home for pulling to
run through.

Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
Going tempo again, Dawson will keep to the left side.
He's hit at the seven and brought down right there.
What a nice open field tackle that time by the Ducks.
Brandon Holman.

Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
Not only does he score points, but he also makes
tackles like that. You know, Coach Hennigy is gonna try
to get this clock down as close as he can.
He doesn't want to give Zealand West the ball back,
as you mentioned, Rick, so they're not going to spend
the time out here.

Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
They're going to try to bleed that clock.

Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
You've still got two more.

Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
Yeah, I think they get one after this play for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
Bryce Leeman out wide to the right on second down,
and we get a time out before the snap I believed.
I think we got a time out by Zealand West.

Speaker 2 (01:05:47):
Okay, well interesting call there by coach Baul House.

Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
But you know what I do like them not being in.
You don't get to take.

Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
Him with you, Rick, I mean, yeah, you don't get
to take him a home and save him. So if
you don't like it, I feel like you got to
take the time out there, and that's what they do.

Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
So fifty excuse me.

Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
I think there was twenty three seconds left on the
clock when they called that time out.

Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
So well, now we'll come to the line.

Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
And what this also does, Dock allows them to do
is it allows them not only to get this play in,
but also lets them plan ahead right now. They can say, hey,
you're gonna have to get a time out after this play,
then we're going to set up for another one.

Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
So this is really playing in the Lowells hands here.
But there's a tremendous football game between two well coached,
disciplined teams.

Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
There's been some penalties tonight, but overall of three well
played game, big plays on both sides. Couldn't ask for
anything more.

Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
At halftime, we told you the host j Justson Physical

Second down in goal ball at the seven yard line

(01:07:07):
in motion goes Barney Dawson will keep inside the five
tripped up just as he got to the five yard
line to see if this four progress will be down
at the five, Lowell will call another timeout with twenty
two seconds left on the clock and they've still got
one in their belt. So anything's on the play on
third and goal from the five.

Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Well, that's just it.

Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
They have the luxury of the time out, so they
haven't taken anything out of the playbook yet.

Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
If they had spent their last time out, then you're
looking at.

Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
Probably a pass and so this does allow them to
still have some leeway and what play they call.

Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
The will also be interesting. Rick.

Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
If they don't get it, that's gonna be the decision.
Do you kick the field goal with the Cavers, who's
a pretty good kicker, probably gonna get you a three,
or do you feel like the pressure is enough that
you have to go for the touchdown.

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
That's why they paid Jacob Penegy all that money and
we just stand here talk about.

Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
I think he's got to get at least two to
go for it. Yeah, I actually get at least two.
I think they've got it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
I would I would agree with you.

Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
I think if they don't get it within two or
three yards, That's just a lot to ask against a
defense that's.

Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
Played relatively well.

Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
They've given him some big plays, but they've also had
some pretty good defensive stands.

Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
Old crocolowis cheering on their red arrows. On third and
goal from the five twenty two seconds left in the
first half, Lowelled down by eight twenty two to fourteen
to Zealand West Pulling in the backfield. They'll give it
to Pulling to the four, to the three, to the two.
He keeps the legs driving. I don't think he got in.

(01:08:42):
They'll not keep backwards. Please, boy, he didn't really get
a great spot there. They're gonna give him the four.
I thought he got another yard at least.

Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
It looks like they're going to at least hit the
clockdown for one last play.

Speaker 3 (01:08:52):
Now what that play is going to be, we don't know,
but I gotta tell you.

Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
As a non partison observer, I wouldn't be really happy
with that spot if I were Jacob Pennigy. It looked
like Poland got almost down to the two yard line
before he was driven back.

Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
I thought he got at least to the three, and
like you said, maybe.

Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
The two, and they end up marking him at the four.

Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
And that's unfortunate because we were talking about where they
needed to be if they wanted to go for a touchdown,
and I thought maybe that was in play.

Speaker 3 (01:09:18):
And now with coach Hennigy taking the time out.

Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
So now I said the four. Yeah, so now they
decide if they want to try.

Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
I can.

Speaker 7 (01:09:28):
Not.

Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
I can tell you one thing.

Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
I can see where Morgan to cavers is and uh,
let's just say he's not part of the conversation, all right,
so I'm probably.

Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Gonna go for it.

Speaker 3 (01:09:38):
And you know what.

Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
Either way, I mean, if you're coach Henneghey, you know
you gotta get some points.

Speaker 3 (01:09:46):
I feel like the success the Ducks have.

Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
Had early is kind of making him think, boy would
really like to get seven here because three maybe not
do it, especially because Eland West is getting the ball
out to start the second half. You feel like you've
got to try to even with them here or at
least close to.

Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
Fourth and goal from the four yard line, six seconds
on the clock.

Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
It's gonna be a play, a scrimmage play.

Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
Three receivers left, one to the far right, four left
snapped a Dawson little screen pop ubble screen over caught
at the five to the two to the one, and
he did not get in. The ball was caught by
Brady Smith. He broke one tackle, kept fighting, but there
were too many defenders there. They brought him down at
the one and the clock runs out in the end

(01:10:35):
of the first half. Boy, I tell you what I
like to play call, I really do. It was a
good bubble screen over there to Brady Smith, the senior
with his tenth catch of the season, and he had
a couple of blockers out there, but there were three
or four defenders unfortunately for him in the red arrows.
They stopped him at the one and Lowell goes to
the locker room with an eight point lead twenty two
to fourteen.

Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Well, it's a tough end for the first half for
roll there. I think they made the right call. They
had the play call dialed up a screen. It's almost
a jumbo screen because as you mentioned, there were four
down linemen and they brought out another lineman out wide
for that fifth lineman, and they tried to get a
screen in there. But Zealand West was able to get

(01:11:16):
there in pursuit and made a really good play. And
now they're gonna have some momentum going into the locker
room and they get the ball to start the second half.

Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
All right, that is the end of the first half.
We've got the Wholt Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show. Joe
Aaron will have some scores from around the area here
and some more information on that, so stay with us.
We'll come back before the start of the third quarter.
We'll have scoring summaries and some first half stats hopefully
for you again at the break. The score Zealand West

(01:11:45):
twenty two, Lowell fourteen. And this is the Drive to
Ford Field Regional Final Action presented by Vanderlon Holme Improvement
Here on Big one on one point three.

We're on the football field this week with twenty three
other players. Twenty three is one too many. There should
only be twenty two on the field at once, eleven
on offense, eleven on defense. But on this play, the
offense had a twelve player lined up on the field.
What's the call? It depends on when the panel is spotted.
If the officials catch it before the play is run,

(01:15:03):
that's an illegal substitution in a five yard penalty. But
if the ball is snapped and a play is run
with twelve on the field and the twelve players not
attempting to get off the field, then it's a legal
participation in a fifteen yard penalty. It's also a fifteen
yard penalty if the offense uses a substitution to create
a deception.

It's been an exciting start to the football playoffs as
regional finals are being played throughout the state this weekend.
Gailsburg Augusta qualified for the first time since nineteen ninety seven,
Manton qualified for the first time since twenty fourteen, and

(01:15:44):
Shelby the Tigers not only qualified for the first time
since twenty thirteen, but have won two playoff games, including
a district title in Division seven, and have their eyes
set on more. Shelby went five and four this year,
their best regular season record since that twenty thirteen season.
In both twenty twelve and twenty thirteen, Shelby went eight
and one in the regular season and advanced to the

(01:16:05):
Division six semifinals. This year, they've already won two playoff
games on the road, beating Leroy Pine River in round one,
in Harrison in the district final, and now they are
just two wins away from playing in the Division seven
final on Sunday, November thirtieth that Ford Field that would
mark their first ever appearance in the football final. For

Speaker 11 (01:17:07):
Joe at Beck inside the Big one on one three studios.
We are at the half of our high school football
game of the week Regional final action in Division three
Zealand West leading Lowell twenty.

Speaker 9 (01:17:17):
Two to fourteen.

Speaker 11 (01:17:18):
Let's take a look at West Michigan scores on the
high school currently in action, and take a look at
what's in tap four tomorrow. Right now, we'll stick in
Division three on the other side of the bracket. At
the half, Mount Pleasant leading East Grand Rapids fourteen to six.

Speaker 9 (01:17:31):
If East Grand Rapids can come.

Speaker 11 (01:17:33):
Back to win, we will have an all West Michigan
final in Division three regardless of how this game ends up.
In Division four Unity Christian leading Big Rapids thirty eight
to fourteen, that game is at the half. In Division five,
West Catholic shutting out Canamazoo United seventeen to nothing at
the half. What's on tap four tomorrow in Division one
battle of two top ten teams in the state Hudsonville

(01:17:55):
at East Kentwood. They'll kick that one off Tomorrow at
one pm at Hudsonville High School. Division six, Kent City
will host Montrose. They'll kick that one off also at
one o'clock. In the Division seven. You heard a little
spotlight on them in are This week in high school sports,
the Shelby Tigers travel up to Monomine. They'll kick that
one off at twelve pm. In Division seven. Currently on

(01:18:16):
sports Radio, the game ninety six point one, which is
the reason why we are on big one to one three. Tonight,
the Grand Rapids Griffins aren't action, hosting the Toronto Marleys.
Three minutes into the second period, the Griffins lead the
Marleys two to nothing. On Wood Radio thirteen hundred AM

nine pm. Number six Michigan in basketball, we'll travel to
TCU to take on the horn Frogs.

Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
Again.

Speaker 11 (01:18:43):
They'll tip that one off at nine pm. Coverage will
begin at eight thirty on Wood Radio. Once again, we
at the half. We have a Division three regional final
between Zealand West and Low. The only thing that's been
able to stop Zeeland West is the clock. But that
being said, we do have only a one score game

(01:19:04):
as Zealand West leads Low twenty two to fourteen. As
we welcome back in the guys in the booth at
Low High School to preview the second half.

Speaker 9 (01:19:12):
Here, it's welcome back by Gino and Rick Burkey. Gentlemen.

Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
All right, thanks Joe Aaron, good job in the story
with those scores. Yeah, the winner of this game plays
the winner of Mount Pleasant East Grand Rapids and Mount

Buck with a scoring summary in some other stats.

Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
Well, it was Mitch Ikey off the bat four hole.

Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
His twenty five yard touchdown run opened the scoring and
the Kaiver's pat made it seven to nothing Zealand West.
And you're just gonna, let's just say, you're gonna hear
the word Holman a lot in the next little bit here. Well,
it was Brandon Holman from thirty nine yards out and
then a Brandon Holman reception for the two point conversion,
and it was eight to seven in favor of the Ducks.

(01:20:27):
And then on the ensuing possession after an interception, Holman
goes eighty yards, two point conversion failed and it was
fourteen to seven. And then Holman from sixteen yards out
his third touchdown of the game. Holman with a two
point conversion running on the direct snap, and it was
twenty two to seven Ducks over the Red Arrows. But

(01:20:51):
then the Red Arrows coming back. Mitch ike at two
yard touchdown run to Camp at ten play, four minute
and fifteen second drive covering sixty five yards, He cavers
with the pat and it was twenty two to.

Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
Fourteen at that point.

Speaker 2 (01:21:05):
Loll threatening at the very end of the half with
a fourth and goal from the four yard line, try
to screen pass and they were not able to convert.
So that's why at the half our score is Zealand
West twenty two and Lowell fourteen.

some impressive first half For mister Holman.

Speaker 2 (01:21:47):
Well, I mean, yeah, he had all the points, that's
pretty impressive, but he also had seven carries for one
hundred and thirty six yards.

Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
Clearly the bulk of that on at dr.

Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
Touchdown run to put the Ducks up fourteen to seve
But boy, Holman just an all world performer here tonight.
And for loll a lot of guys in the fold,
and that's kind of what I talked about at the
beginning of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
It can't just be Logan Dawson.

Speaker 2 (01:22:10):
There has to be other guys, Mitch Ike with two
touchdown runs tonight, He's contributed mightily. Of course, Logan Dawson
has been effective through the air and on his feet,
and then Merrik.

Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
Pulling the other running back has been effective to most degrees.

Speaker 2 (01:22:27):
And so that's what they're gonna need a balance attack
here in the second half. They're also just gonna have
to find a way. They are able to force one
punt in the first half for Zealand West, but the
first three possessions for the Ducks were all touchdowns, and
so Lowell is gonna have to find a way to
continue that success that they had in getting the Zealand
West Duck to punt the football back over.

Speaker 3 (01:22:49):
They have to find a way.

Speaker 2 (01:22:50):
To continue to diagnose that offense. And I would not
be surprised wreck coming into the second half. My van
down Key's the second half number one zealing less. I
think they have to go back a little bit to
that straight tea formation. They've been doing, the multiples, they've
been doing, the direct snaps, the handoffs, all that stuff,
and yeah, it has worked with some degree, but I

(01:23:10):
think they got to go back to the old, reliable,
get back into that traditional tea set that they have
run for many many years and try to assert their
dominance that way. For a role, they just have to
clean out the mistakes a lot of penalties for them,
and they've had a turnover in there as well, and
they were not able to cash in on that fourth
and goal to end the half. So even though they've

(01:23:32):
had kind of a sloppy game by their standards, they're
only down by one score. So if they can clean
that up a little bit, they can find themselves in
the semifinals next week.

Speaker 1 (01:23:41):
Look at what Celand West is doing here back on
the kick return. They've got three players and stacked high
formation standing at the fourteen yard line trying to keep
you from kicking it away from Holman. I guess in company.

Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
Yeah, that's what they've been doing, is keeping it away
from Homan. So trying to go to l and the
kicking it deep. I don't know if they're gonna go
for it though. The Cavers has kicked it short every time.

Speaker 1 (01:24:03):
See if the Cavers does. He looks over at the
sideline as if he's getting a signal on where to
kick it. Jacob Penegy looks at the return set up
there now's the on. The west shifts out of it,
the cavers boots it away. This time, it's gonna go
back to the ten yard line. Fifteen twenty twenty five
thirty up the middle, thirty five forty lookout forty five
fifty thirty twenty and brought down. I'm sorry, I got

(01:24:26):
the wrong yard line. All the way down to the
thirty five yard line. What a nice return.

Speaker 3 (01:24:32):
He was down there, turned there by Jay number twenty.
It's like Kenny.

Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
Howe all the way down to the thirty five.

Speaker 1 (01:24:44):
Well, Kenny how the third, just a sophomore. They say,
he's down at the thirty seven yard line. Great return
by how Hey, and.

Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
How I can I can tell you what they're gonna
do for the rest of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
If they get to kick off again, it's not gonna
be that.

Speaker 1 (01:25:00):
Yeah, they will definitely go back to the squib first
and ten ducks in great scoring formation. All breck down
the keeper up the middle. You got across the thirty.
I'm sorry, Jonah Leslie took the snap there. They put
the two potential snap receivers right next to each other
in the back and they both put their hands up.
They snap it to one and that time it was
Jonah Leslie.

Speaker 2 (01:25:21):
Yeah, how I look at it is Drew Albret's kind
of a he's built like more of a point guard
and Jona Leslie built like more of a full back.
That's how I child the dusty very big in size.

Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
And now they're going to go the same set.

Speaker 1 (01:25:35):
Holman to the left. They will go right directly and
there's a flag. They wanted to direct snap there to
to Holman, but yeah, somebody moved.

Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
It was in the backfield. It was the other guy
beside him.

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
I believe it was Leslie just tried to get an
hurly start there and just was kind of leaning forward
as the ball was snapped and that's not gonna fly.

Speaker 3 (01:25:54):
So that's a tough one there and point both teams.
Five penalty.

Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
He's on Zealand West.

Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
Well, I mean for Zealand West has just been the
procedure penalties that have pushed them back and that's the
kind of stuff that, like I said, drives coaches up
the wall.

Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
Second and seven Zealand West moving and left and right
with the all white uniforms. Paul Breck takes a snap. Sorry,
this is Leslie up the middle. He got about three,
maybe four to the thirty yard line before they tripped
him up. He bring up third down and short. So
that's a good successful run for Zealand West, which moves
it up down to third down. Call it about two
right at the thirty four yard line to make that

(01:26:31):
the twenty nine yard line.

Speaker 2 (01:26:33):
Yeah, basically just getting the penalty yardage back. So now
it's saying it back to third and two. I think
this is four down territory again. So even if you're
Zealand West, if you don't get it here, you've probably
got another play in the hopping.

Speaker 1 (01:26:46):
Leslie stays in that shotgun formation instead, they go to
the left side to home and he'll bring it in
the center of the line. He's hitting right away. I
don't think he got it.

Speaker 3 (01:26:55):
He needed to.

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
He got one, and yeah, they're not giving it to him. No,
they're not getting it to him at all.

Speaker 3 (01:27:01):
Not even a question.

Speaker 1 (01:27:03):
A fourth down in a full yard here for Zealand West.
Big play defensively, can Lowell get the stop and get
the ball back down by eight twenty two to fourteen
in the first five minutes the first couple of minutes
of this second half.

Speaker 2 (01:27:16):
A good play up front there they had in the middle.
Iike and Oxley do a good job of clogging it up.

Speaker 1 (01:27:27):
Fourth and one direct snap, Leslie gives it to Holman.
He'll plow forward. He's close. I don't know if he
got it. We may need a measurement.

Speaker 2 (01:27:35):
Now we're going to find out here Holman.

Speaker 1 (01:27:37):
Got to the right side. If he got a yard,
that was it. It was fourth and one. He got
no more than a yard. I guarantee you.

Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
That Callan Williams came in there and put a hat
on right at the end of the line. At the
end of the run, they're going to bring the sticks
out here.

Speaker 1 (01:27:52):
Boy boy, look where the spot is. I don't think
he's got according to the spot.

Speaker 3 (01:27:56):
No, I don't think he does either. Wreck.

Speaker 2 (01:27:59):
I think it was far and it's a little bit
farther back than I thought. It looked like he had
gotten pretty close. This one looks like it's almost a
full yard back. But we're gonna find out.

Speaker 3 (01:28:08):
Rick.

Speaker 1 (01:28:09):
It comes that overworked and underpaid chanyang you talk about.

Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
Well, they finally they get their moment in the sun.

Speaker 1 (01:28:15):
Come on, here we go. You'll hear the roar from Lowell.
If it's short. I don't know I'm hard on.

Speaker 2 (01:28:27):
It doesn't take a genius to figure out what the
call was there. First down roll, big stop for the
Red Arrows and Zealand Less.

Speaker 3 (01:28:37):
Now going back.

Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
On defense, big momentum swing for the Red Arrows is
now they'll take over in their own territory. Really a
good job by them, because Zealand West started with pretty
good field position.

Speaker 1 (01:28:52):
Both touchdowns for Lowell in that first half. For Mitchellaike
twenty five yards in the first quarter, two yards in
the second. Logan Dawson the quarterback, We'll take the direct
snap off the right side. He got some space, thirty
five to forty falls forward and close to the first down,
he got about ten. See if he got enough. He
did first and ten. Logan Dawson Senior came in with

(01:29:15):
over sixteen hundred and fifty yards on the ground rushing
this year and seven yards per carry. He's added to
that total. They'll go quickly, no huddle, give up the middle.
This is Iike off the left side. Hike got about
six or seven right away. Some momentum clearly on the
side of the home standing Red Arrows who have white pants,
red jerseys, white numerals, black helmets, digging on defense. All

(01:29:37):
white jerseys and pants for the Zealand West Ducks. First
and ten. Give you the first man through this is Ike, bitch.
Hike got a first down right to the midfield, strike
first and ten red arrows.

Speaker 3 (01:29:51):
Oh, I'm dealing. Excuse me.

Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
Lowell wants to get Zealand West on their heels, so
they are going with tempo, getting right up to the
football and snapping it.

Speaker 1 (01:29:59):
This is as fast as you'll see a high school
team go. He'll go to Ike up the middle, who
plow for one and knock him backwards. I mean he
got back to the line. That's about it. So no
gain at all for Minchwaykee that time. Good serge that
time by the center of the defense for Zealand West.

Speaker 2 (01:30:14):
I'm finally getting a little bit of a jump off
the ball on the pile there for the Ducks West
and Headley also in there on the pile. Marshall Johnson
getting up and Mason Myers. Now they'll bring in a
little bit of a different set, bringing in some wide receivers.

Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
It's to be Barney and.

Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
Lehman coming in, Ike coming out, so a little bit
more of a spread look on this one for Loowell.

Speaker 1 (01:30:40):
Does Lehman have a sibling that plays for him with it?

Speaker 2 (01:30:42):
Yeah, that's Brody, his brother in the defensive backfield number.

Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
The Lehman brothers back to passes Dawson. He's gonna go
along out. He's got a man open thirty twenty fifteen
ten five and brought down inside the five yard line
making the catch Brady Smith. A beautiful throw from Dawson
to Brady Smith and his first and goal. Rhetters trailing
by eight.

Speaker 2 (01:31:07):
Boy Smith getting behind the defense just drifts into no
man's land and nobody from the Ducks was able to
pick him up. And then Dawson just lays it in there.
A beautiful throw. And I said this in the first half.
Logan Dawson does have an armbaud.

Speaker 1 (01:31:23):
Dawson will keep it. He's gonna hit for a loss
back at the fore. It was first and goal of
the three good serch that time defensively by the Ducks.

Speaker 2 (01:31:32):
Yeah, and they know that Logan Dawson is gonna call
his number at some point. The really key on and
on him, which they should the time Logan Dawson reads it,
I think correctly. So they had the defensive end crashing
down but just too much pursuit there by the Ducks.

Speaker 3 (01:31:47):
They corral Dawson for a short loss.

Speaker 1 (01:31:50):
Second and goal from the four hike is the upman
pull him in the deep back, Dawson will keep behind
his right guard. Got to the two to the one.
He's into the end touchdown Lowell. With seven o way
to go in the third quarter, there are a two
point conversion away from tie. Let's see if they go
for two or kick the PG.

Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
Wow, this is an interesting decision. I think you can
probably go for two here.

Speaker 3 (01:32:14):
And the reason you do that is because it's a
one possession game either way.

Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
Brett Rick's if you miss it here, you still have
a field goal to get you ahead. So I think
this is the right call by coach Hennegate to go
for two.

Speaker 1 (01:32:28):
That's what they will do. Down by dou Is. Trying
to tie it up from the three yard line. On
the conversion, Dawson takes a snap. He's looking, he's looking.
He throws it out on the right flight and it's
caught for the conversion. Barney makes the catch and gets
into the end zone for the two point conversion. We
are tied at twenty two. Beautiful pass from Dawson to

(01:32:50):
Colton Barney and it's twenty two apiece with seven o
way to go back with the kickoff on the drive
to Fordfield. Regional Final action presented by Vandern, who the
provement here on big one on one point three. We've

(01:33:11):
got a whale of a ball game here in the
Division III Regional Final in Lowell, Zealand West twenty two
to Lowell twenty two after the two point conversion successful
after the touchdown squib kick off the right side and
ball grabbed and it's bottle, it's on the turf. It's
a loose ball, but I think Zealand West got it back.

Speaker 3 (01:33:27):
They did recover.

Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
I think that was Holman over there and the jumping
on the ball, but clearly the Red Arrows with the
momentum now back on their side. This has been a
game of momentum. Lowell grabbed it early, Zealand West felt
like they were very close to breaking it open and
then Lowell was able to fight back and now it's

(01:33:50):
a tie ballgame.

Speaker 3 (01:33:51):
All square here seven oh five to go in the third.

Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
Quarter, Celand West goes to their full house tea. Now
first down, they'll give it to the second back. This
is Leslie off the left side. Nowhere to go. The
momentum surgeon to the defensive side of roles right now,

(01:34:14):
Morgan on the tackle, Leslie on the carry, give him
one second down of nine.

Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
Dawson Morgan coming up from his linebacker spot, the leading
tackler for this team overall seventy five tackles on the year.

Speaker 1 (01:34:29):
Second and nine with that full house tea is Drew Albreck,
the quarterback behind over center. He will drop back the
pat how he's got a man wide open. This is Leslie.
He's got it. The fifty forty thirty twenty ten five
touchdown Zealand West seventy one yards Drew all Breck to

(01:34:50):
Jonah Leslie.

Speaker 2 (01:34:53):
Wow, and we thought Brady Smith was open on the
last possession Leslie. I mean, well, unfortunately for that it
was a long distance to try to get to anybody
close to to Leslie. And that one a beautiful play though.

Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
Beautiful play fake there, Yeah, all Breck.

Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
He fakes the inside handoff and Leslie just leaks out
into the flat and then keeps running down the seam
and just nobody for all.

Speaker 1 (01:35:21):
His eight eight touchdown pass of the season. Now they'll
go for two to try to add to their six
point lead. All break the long count since a man
in motion gives it on the jet sweep going to
wide left, nowhere to go. He's not going to get in.
So it'll say a six point advantage. Twenty eight, twenty two.
We'll keep it right here, bucking. Talk about that important

(01:35:42):
touchdown that Zealand West comes right back and.

Speaker 2 (01:35:44):
Gets all brecked up top seventy one yards to Leslie.
But they do not get the two point conversion. And
that's the danger of going for two every time if
you don't overge. And now with Woll doing that in time,
the score now they can go back to the traditional

(01:36:07):
one point conversion, will score a touchdown and take back
the lead. But just a tremendous answer by the Ducks.
After Wall goes down the field ties the game.

Speaker 3 (01:36:18):
The crowd is alive and.

Speaker 2 (01:36:20):
Drew all bracked with a beautiful fake then throws it
to a wide open Jason Leslie.

Speaker 3 (01:36:25):
For a seventy one yard touchdown. Run. Lots of big
plays in this game.

Speaker 2 (01:36:30):
Bricks several chunk plays over thirty yards, which not really
what we expected coming into tonight, But boy, both of
these offenses putting on a show.

Speaker 1 (01:36:49):
And the Ducks will boot it away with that six
point lead. Now it's a hits and up man and
he falls on it alertly, a line drive kick right
at the up man. That's something like team should try
more often.

Speaker 9 (01:37:01):
I believe.

Speaker 1 (01:37:03):
That was James Jenninger, the senior boy. That was a
rocket hit him right between the numbers and land grabbed
it and fell to his knees wisely.

Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
I mean that's a tremendous play really because he doesn't
think it's gonna I mean, you're janninga. The last thing
you think of is the ball coming right at you
with some speed, and he was able to catch it
and drop right there.

Speaker 3 (01:37:24):
So tremendous fuel position for the arrows.

Speaker 1 (01:37:26):
Back and forth we go. Lowell gets the ball back
down by six twenty eight, twenty two. Keep off the
left side. This is pullman or pulling rather pulling. Got
nice pulling block that time. Pulling did and they were
pulling to the left and he got about nine.

Speaker 3 (01:37:44):
A good job there and pulling keeping his feet.

Speaker 2 (01:37:47):
That's one thing I've been pretty impressed with on the
roll really throughout the backfield is they do a really
good job of staying on their feet and trying to
extend the play get extra yardage after the first contact.

Speaker 1 (01:38:03):
Pulling to the right, Dawson will keep it to the
right side. He picked up the first down, jumps to
the outside of the forty and he knocked him down
just as he gets across the line. They'll give him
not for the first down though. Nice run that time
by Logan Dawson. First and ten red arrows Logans Nash
on the tackle for the Ducks burst down from the

(01:38:25):
forty one of Leland West. Well.

Speaker 2 (01:38:29):
Now Rull's starting to They ran with tempo last time.
Now trying to methodically go down the field in this drive.

Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
Yeah, they're not going to the hurry up. Sophomore Bryce
Leaman out wide to the left on first and ten
option right, Dawson will keep around the right side. He
got across the line for about three they trip him
up in about the thirty six thirty seven yard line.

(01:38:57):
Give him four second down and six for the arrow.
Clock moving four fifty three and counting. Zealand West twenty eight,
Lowell twenty two here in the third quarter Regional Final
from Bob Perry Field at Red Aero Stadium, Winter This
game plays the winner of the Mount Pleasant East Grand
Rapids game being played right now in Mount Pleasant. At
the half, Mount Pleasant led by one touchdown over East

(01:39:20):
Grand Rapids. We'll hope you get a final on that
one before we're done here. To lay handoff this time
to pulling off the right side. He comes back to
the left. There was nothing there initially that he could
get a yard out of it to the thirty five
yard line. Bring up third down about four for the
Red Arrows.

Speaker 2 (01:39:36):
Almost look like a direct snap there, wreck, I mean,
Logan Dawson did not have the ball in his hands
very much, if at all.

Speaker 3 (01:39:44):
Poland got almost.

Speaker 2 (01:39:45):
Got it right off the hop a little bit of
their own medicine for Zealand West there at that time
is try to fool him with a little bit of
a direct snap action. But the Ducks stand tall and
we're still now we're back into that two down territory.

Speaker 3 (01:39:59):
Rex we roll here, does have two plays to get four.

Speaker 1 (01:40:02):
Yards pauling the deep pack. Hey, instead of go to
Dawson up the middle, he bounces off. One man goes
to the outside lookout Dawson to the twenty five twenty
and he's run out of bounced he go through. Then,
boy he is quick, he's shifty also.

Speaker 2 (01:40:20):
Well not only that, but he again just keeps his
feet there. He's almost wrapped up in the backfield by
Grady Patrick and just bounces away and goes to the outside.
And it's multiple times ll has gotten first contact, breaken
the tackle, and then gotten to the outside and there's
just not a lot of support there being very aggressive

(01:40:43):
getting down to the point of attack, and well, with
good tackle breaking ability, they've been able to break a
couple of runs like that just because they're able to
get outside after the initial contact.

Speaker 1 (01:40:54):
Two receivers out wide to the ride on first and
ten at the twenty jumping over the would be tackler
is Iike and he picked up about correction that was
pulling Barry pulling hurdled over a would be tackler turn
what looked like it was gonna be a minimal gain
to about a five yard pickup second and five for
the Red Arrows. Heisman and Lehman are alternating bringing plays

(01:41:20):
in from the sideline. Call it four yard gains second
down and six two and a half to go in
the third.

Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
We're getting to get in the crunch time here is
now the players coming in a little slower. You know,
guys are starting to get a little tired out there.

Speaker 1 (01:41:38):
Direct snap to Dawson. Dawson to the right side, turns
to the corner close to the six. He's a little
bit short, he's run out of bounds. I think it's
gonna bring up about third down and one.

Speaker 2 (01:41:47):
Yeah, it's gonna depend on where they mark him. What's
they think going to mark him around the twelve? So
third and two, Yeah, it's gonna be the third and
two and now well, they said, being a little bit
more deliberate here, not only because they're trying to piece

(01:42:09):
together some strategy, but also, like I said, some of
these guys going on both sides of the ball reckon
starting to get tired of the adrenaline starts to wear
off a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:42:17):
From the opening part of the game.

Speaker 1 (01:42:19):
Lowell trails by six, give off the right side to Pulling.
He plows forward. He gets the first down inside the
ten yard nine, first and goal.

Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
Red arrows, Pulling, Aike and Dawson all been tremendous tonight.
Now Aike is the one that has the two touchdowns,
But telling you all three of them have done a
great job tonight, it.

Speaker 1 (01:42:41):
Is first and goal for the Red Arrows trailing by
six with under two minutes to go in the third quarter.
Great opportunity to tie or take the lead. I think
that's Cam Kennedy in the backfield. Now on first and
goal option right, Dawson will keek for the five to

(01:43:03):
the two to the one touchdown. Lowell Dawson from seven
yards out ties it up and the Retros can take
a lead with a point after touchdown.

Speaker 2 (01:43:14):
Well, that's where the two point conversions sometimes can work
against you. After zeal at West, now they're in position
to go down by a point here with the Cavers
ready to kick the extra point, but a tremendous drive
there by lolling out both teams. It's like a heavyweight
fight wreck starting to answer each one's best punch.

Speaker 1 (01:43:33):
Snap the Cavers boots and it's strong enough and it's
true to go in the third Lowell twenty nine on
the West twenty Waight back with the kickoff here. If
you're listening to the LMCU High School Football Game of
the Week on Big one on one point three, play

(01:43:58):
them a ball game year and Lowell Division three Regional
Championship Game one team goes on to the semi finals.
One team says the season is over. It's gonna be
a shame. One team's gonna have to hang it up
after this one and is twenty nine to twenty eight
Lowell over Zealand West. Lowell has scored three of the
last four touchdowns. After trailing twenty two to seven with

(01:44:20):
four and a half to go in the first half, thought.

Speaker 2 (01:44:27):
They were gonna get ready well, false start action.

Speaker 3 (01:44:32):
Now they're ready to go.

Speaker 1 (01:44:33):
Let's see what the kickoff results in. I expect some
kind of squib kick or pooch kick.

Speaker 3 (01:44:40):
Oh, if they ever get to it. Here we go a.

Speaker 1 (01:44:43):
Pooch kick off to the right side. Fair catch called
for and made about the thirty four yard line.

Speaker 2 (01:44:51):
Every one was slogan ash on the fair catch and
good play there.

Speaker 3 (01:44:57):
Don't want to try to make anything out of that.

Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
Just take the ball, good field position, good good fair
catch and now's Yland West goes back.

Speaker 3 (01:45:05):
To work with thirty six is go here in the third.

Speaker 1 (01:45:08):
Quarter and Zealand West trailing now for the first time
since the first drive of the game. Buck they fell
behind seven nothing and then they had the lead. Yeah,
it was tied from then on.

Speaker 3 (01:45:18):
Yes, sure see how they answer.

Speaker 1 (01:45:22):
Back to the tea all Breck get to the first
man threw on the carry, Nico moncouon the Jr. Took
that quick hand off.

Speaker 2 (01:45:37):
And couple there. But now Moncoon, that's I think that's
might be the first carry thereon.

Speaker 3 (01:45:44):
He had one and I believe in the first hand.

Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
So it's been a long time since Moncoon has had
the ball in his hands.

Speaker 1 (01:45:51):
Full house tea, three backs behind all Breck on second
down and nine and we get some movement another procedure
penalty again sealing.

Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
Well well, and that's the walls moving legally before the
snap there, shifting the defense around. And it has been
multiple times in the ducks intereor line has moved with them,
and that's.

Speaker 3 (01:46:13):
Just they just can't happen.

Speaker 2 (01:46:14):
You've got to be a little bit more disciplined than that,
especially now because it puts you behind the sticks.

Speaker 3 (01:46:20):
That's just a tough one to take. And there hasn't been.

Speaker 2 (01:46:24):
There's been a lot of penalties for Zealand West, and
I believe that's the seventh, one.

Speaker 1 (01:46:28):
Second and thirteen for zw All brecked over center. We'll
keep it on the design run around the left side,
turns the corner at the thirty thirty five, breaks a
tackle out near the forty yard line. You see where
they run him out of bounds right at the forty
one yard line or forty.

Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
Yeah, it depends on the spot. Here they're gonna mark
up about a yard short.

Speaker 1 (01:46:47):
Good run that time by Drew Albrechton, junior quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:46:51):
Yeah, I thought they had given it to Leslie and
instead Albret keeps down on his hip and makes a
big gain.

Speaker 3 (01:46:57):
And I think they're gonna go into this.

Speaker 2 (01:47:00):
Think you're gonna go into the fourth quarter here with
the time running now, they do not have to run
a play.

Speaker 1 (01:47:04):
That will be the end of the third quarter with
the score. Well maybe not day see if they're gonna
run a snapperor not. They're gonna get over the center
ten seconds.

Speaker 2 (01:47:12):
To go into babe, try to drive them off side.

Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
Yep, Yeah, that's trying to do. Lowell's not jumping. And
that's the end of the third quarter with a score
Lowell twenty nine. Zealand West twenty eight back with the
fourth quarter and then drive to Ford Field. Regional Final
Action presented by Vandern Home Improvement here on Big One
on one point.

Speaker 11 (01:47:31):
Three inside the Big one on one three studios.

Speaker 9 (01:47:38):
Joe Ratt here with a quick Myers scoreboard. On the
other side of the Division.

Speaker 11 (01:47:43):
Three bracket, East Grand Rapids has just punched it in
and we are in the third quarter. Mount Pleasant still leads,
but it's a one score game. Mount Pleasant twenty one,
East Grand Rapids fourteen.

Speaker 1 (01:47:52):
Gentlemen, All right, thanks, the winner of this game gets
the winner of that game. Third down and one for
Zealand West, trailing by a point, give it the first
back through and he's gonna fight forward. He got to
the line of scrimmage and that was all on the
carry that time. Was Nico Moncoon.

Speaker 2 (01:48:11):
Yeah, actually probably lost about a half yard there. And
now fourth down and a long one they're bringing all
wrecked out. And now remember he is the punter.

Speaker 1 (01:48:22):
So Lowell has already stopped him once on fourth down
and one in the second half.

Speaker 3 (01:48:26):
Yep, they have.

Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
So it's gonna be straight tea. So if they're gonna punts,
it's you're gonna have to.

Speaker 1 (01:48:32):
Go home with big play. Fourth down and one for
Zealand West, all rocked over center, long count. Give to
the second man, throw off the right side. This is
Holman to the right side, turns the corner and got more.
He got the first down and into little territory across
the fifty yard line, down about the forty six yard line.
Nice blocked by the tight end on the right side there,

(01:48:53):
sealing that edge and Holman turned that corner and picked
up about twelve.

Speaker 3 (01:48:57):
Yeah, that was Mershall.

Speaker 2 (01:48:58):
Johnson sometimes lines up in hvacs sometimes at the tight end.

Speaker 3 (01:49:03):
That boy, he was able to cave that side down.

Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
And Holman with the speed to get outside and beat
the pursuit.

Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
Big pick up there. On fourth down.

Speaker 1 (01:49:12):
You heard Joe Aaron tell us that e'scron wrappings back
within one touchdown over there, trying to keep their season going.
First and ten, Zealand West. Give to the first man through.
This is Busker, right, Mike Mason Busker, the senior.

Speaker 3 (01:49:30):
First time we've called his name since the first half.

Speaker 1 (01:49:34):
Give Mason about five on that maybe four second down
and six for Zealand West trailing by a point opening
minutes of this fourth quarter here the Division III Regional
Championship at Lowell.

Speaker 2 (01:49:45):
Well that the pace of this game, Rick has definitely
slowed down, as we can tell, both teams being much
more deliberate. Guy has starting to get tired, also trying
to work that clock down.

Speaker 1 (01:49:58):
Long count Albreck to give it to the second man
through home and off the right side. He's got the
first down across the thirty five yard line near the
thirty one again, going to that right side of that
line that's been showing up some big blocks here First
and ten Zealand West at the thirty one yard line of.

Speaker 10 (01:50:16):
Lowell, Well Zealand West.

Speaker 2 (01:50:27):
Now momentum, it's been a game of swings right now,
even though they are down by one, I feel like
they're starting to build up so momentum.

Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
As they drive in the Lowell territory.

Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
Lowell shifts on that defensive line as they've done all night.
Second back through gets it in nowhere to go at
all for Jonah Leslie. Ball down, Oh, the ball's out?
Was he down? They might have blown it dead Zealand.

Speaker 3 (01:50:51):
West, Yeah they did.

Speaker 1 (01:50:52):
They called forward property.

Speaker 3 (01:50:54):
Yeah he was.

Speaker 2 (01:50:55):
He had taken about three steps backward before the ball
had come out.

Speaker 1 (01:51:00):
It wasn't down before it came out, but the forward
progress had been stopped right Buck.

Speaker 2 (01:51:03):
Yeah, I mean he clearly was not moving forward at all.
He was driven back to nearly the thirty five yard line. Now,
I couldn't tell exactly where the ball came out, but
it was on his way back and the part Howard
progress is stopped. It's hard, it's a hard judgment call,
but I think they got it right there because he
was he did not have any for momentum as soon

(01:51:25):
as he got the ball.

Speaker 1 (01:51:26):
Well, red elf fans, you're here not liking that call?
Below us second down to ten, first man through, nowhere
to go, grab on right away, Nico Moncoon on the carry.
He got about three. Maybe it's gonna bring a third down.
Let's call it seven and a half for Zealand West,
trailing by a point. It's low twenty nine Zealand West
twenty eight o'clock moving eight twenty one to go in

(01:51:48):
the fourth quarter. Winner moves on to the semi finals
at a date. It'll be next Saturday, a week from tomorrow,
but we don't know where it be who'll be playing.

Speaker 3 (01:51:59):
Here's why get through this one first?

Speaker 1 (01:52:01):
Yeah, third down, Lowell fans roaring rowing out to the
right is all Breck. He wants to run to the
twenty five to the twenty down the sidey fifteen ten
first in goal Zealand West. Well, I tell you what
the money side has been on the right side of
that line for Zealand West. They've gone to them in
a big play after big play in this fourth quarter

(01:52:23):
and they've produced.

Speaker 3 (01:52:24):
Well, that's what it was when they played West Catholic.

Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
They like that right side. If they need the tough
yards or they need the big ones, that's where they go.

Speaker 3 (01:52:35):
And in so far that equation has still held true. Tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:52:39):
They say he stepped out back at the fourteen, but
it is still a first down first and ten at
the fourteen. It might be better for him. They get
a first down inside the five. Yep, full house team
behind all Breck gives us little off the middle. This

(01:53:01):
is Montcoon again. They've been riding Montcoon to this fourth
quarter drive.

Speaker 2 (01:53:06):
I think at this point, Rick, it's a little bit
of strategy and a little bit of who is not
tired and eagle Mancoon playing on both sides of the ball,
has not carried the ball as much offensively and so
maybe feeling like he's a little bit fresher than Holman
or Leslie that have shouldered the load on both sides.

Speaker 1 (01:53:25):
Tonight got a couple to the ten. Call it second
down and six from the ten yard line. Montcoon the
middle back in that T formation, all breck along count
over center. Give to this second back through off the
left side. This is Leslie to the five to the
two to the one touchdown Zealand West Jonah Leslie from
six yards out and Zealand West reclaims the lead.

Speaker 2 (01:53:50):
And now they're going to go for two, which means
that if this is another pivotal play though for Roll
it's the five point game right now. So gotta behind
your guard because this is a big one. But a
nice drive there by Zealand West, just a championship answer

(01:54:13):
after all, took the lead for the first.

Speaker 3 (01:54:15):
Time since two minutes into the contest.

Speaker 1 (01:54:19):
Yeah, you're right. This is a huge two point conversion
for the Ducks. Now we're now back out on top,
rolling out his all breaks. Look he's wide opening the
end zone. Cut. Oh he dropped it. Oh yeah, a
man wide opening the end zone and he put it
right on the money. But it was dropped.

Speaker 2 (01:54:39):
Yeah, Leslie just didn't that look comfortable there? Wide open
and he just kind of bobbles into the ground. Boy,
it's a huge break for role because he.

Speaker 10 (01:54:51):
Was wide open.

Speaker 2 (01:54:54):
With a big miss for Zealand West.

Speaker 3 (01:54:58):
I mean you said it.

Speaker 2 (01:55:00):
I mean there was just nobody out there but Leslie
and green Grass and somehow it just couldn't come up
with the catch.

Speaker 1 (01:55:14):
Back and forth we go. Zealand West reclaims the lead,
now up thirty four to twenty nine, which tells me,
I guess it could happen, but it's not likely we're
gonna have overtime. Now.

Speaker 2 (01:55:28):
Well, I mean, the way the math works, if Wolve
was able to get the touchdown, they probably would go
for the traditional one point conversion, because I mean the
thing with Zeland West is they just don't have a
kicking game.

Speaker 1 (01:55:48):
So here's the kick. It's a deep kick, I mean
pick up on the fly over here by Barney to
the twenty twenty five thirty breaks a tackle thirty five
good hearting run that time by Colin barr Ernie pulling
Barney rather than Barney. He gets out to the thirty
five yard line. So Zealand West we're trying to come back.

Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
Well, I'll all setting up here. This is the one
that could be the ballgame. With seven minutes ago, both
teams have not been extremely fast, straight or eager. In
the last last couple of drives, they are being very deliberate.

Speaker 1 (01:56:35):
Three straight scorers have changed the lead in this game.
Give to the second back threw off the right side.

Speaker 2 (01:56:43):
It's pulling.

Speaker 1 (01:56:45):
That is Mary polland the senior plows for a couple
about the thirty seven yard line. Second down and eight
for Lowell. Yeah, that's the double edged sword right now
for Jacob Hennegy number one. Obviously you need a score,
but you want to do it as as slow as possible,
not give that potent Zealand West much time to come

(01:57:05):
back and counter it. So I think that at least
for this drive of the days of the hurry up
are gone. Design bootleg run for Logan Dawson. He gets
by one man across the forty and just a huge
hit at the forty one yard line. Oh he got hammered,
but he did pick up a few yards across the
forty to the forty two. Let's give him call a
third down and three clock moving six twenty one to

(01:57:27):
go Zeland West thirty four, Lowell twenty nine. In this
Division III Roajan Regional Championship.

Speaker 2 (01:57:33):
Wave, Drew Albrecht is coming up from the safety spot
and delivering the blow. It's a Logan Dawson, two warriors,
just going right at it.

Speaker 3 (01:57:43):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:57:43):
It's third down and looks like three or four, so
it'll be interesting here. They're gonna go out of the
pistol this time, not under center.

Speaker 1 (01:57:51):
I haven't seen that too much from Logan Dawson, who
take the snot throws it over here on the sideline
and it's caught for the first down. Nice stretching grab
out there, pray Leman, the sophomore stretched out and made
a beautiful grab for a first ten ten for long.

Speaker 2 (01:58:08):
Well Dawson, like I said, he doesn't throw it a lot,
but man, he is accurate. I know he had the
interception earlier in the half, kind of a bad decision
and I probably wish he has it back, but down
the field for my money, reck, It's just I'm telling
you he can throw that ball.

Speaker 1 (01:58:25):
That ball right there in that one in the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:58:27):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:58:28):
Two big time throws by the quarterback, Logan Dawson Senior.

Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
The long ones for him have been tremendous.

Speaker 1 (01:58:39):
On to carry. This is Dawson again off the right side,
got about four maybe five to the twenty nine yard
line spot. Him down at the twenty nine pick up
a short six long five. It's called it second and

(01:58:59):
four to twenty nine line hunder five minutes ago clock movie.
Now Jacob Hennegy's really thinking about that. How do we
how do we stretch this?

Speaker 2 (01:59:08):
Yeah, I mean you got to you gotta try to
make five minutes last for twenty nine yards.

Speaker 1 (01:59:16):
Dawson will keep it behind the screamage. He gets by
one man, breaks another tackle, and he gets across and
he's close to the first down. He broke two tackles
behind the line of scrimmage and still turned into a
positive game and he got the first down at the
twenty five yard line somehow.

Speaker 2 (01:59:30):
Wow, that was a pretty good spot there. He's got
a man down for Zealand West. I want to say
that's fifty Mason Myers, but he's already.

Speaker 3 (01:59:43):
Yeah, it is fifty Basin Myers is down.

Speaker 1 (01:59:46):
This third quarter, By the way, brought to you by
Kids Food Basket, our official nonprofit for the LMCU high
school football Game of the Week and this regular season.
Every touchdown score during our Games of the Week, LMC
will generously donate fifty dollars to Kids Food Basket to
nourish local care. It's reached their full potential. A few
donations coming from this. Want to tell you.

Speaker 2 (02:00:09):
West Catholic's still up seventeen to nothing as they start
the fourth quarter. So Kalamazoo United battling hard, but just
got to put some gotta put some points on your
side of the scoreboard if you want to win the game.

Speaker 1 (02:00:24):
Kalamazoo United. That's a conglomeration of Kalamazoo Hacket and Kalamazoo
Christian right, yeah, yep, they formed together. The schools did
not combine their separate schools, but they combined for their
athletic football team because they didn't have enough numbers individually
for either school.

Speaker 2 (02:00:42):
They didn't feel And Mason Myers is on his way up,
so good to see there now not putting a tonnel
weight on the right leg, so it might have got
rolled up there a little bit, but doesn't need it.
Looks like a lot of help to get off the field.
So let's hope he's able to return soon. But for

(02:01:03):
twenty nine to go here clock will start as they
get ready, and boy, this is I mean, this is
just a bit a tremendous game, Rick, it has I
mean momentum swings on both sides, big plays both sides,
and it's gonna be ashamed because somebody is gonna, like
you said, hang it up after tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:01:21):
After a tremendous.

Speaker 1 (02:01:22):
Effort on first down, Dawson will keep to the left side,
turns the corner to the twenty, and he's run out
of bounds near the nineteen yard line to see where
he stepped out. Does not have a first down, but
he has nice healthy first round pickup, first.

Speaker 3 (02:01:37):
Down pickup, so they're gonna give him five.

Speaker 1 (02:01:40):
At the twenty first and five clock stops with four
to eleven to go.

Speaker 8 (02:01:44):
Ye.

Speaker 3 (02:01:45):
Really, the only downside there is you stop the clock.

Speaker 1 (02:01:48):
Five point lead for Zealand West on defense thirty four
to twenty nine. But Lowell has the ball at the
twenty yard line of the Ducks, right at the red
zone with four to eleven to go, down by a
five spot. Oh somebody moved up front. Yeah, the first
time we se a procedure against the red Ells. Let's
make it official with a referee.

Speaker 2 (02:02:10):
Oh yeah, there it is five yards. That's a tough
one because now second and five, which now second ten,
Second and ten changes the play called little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:02:25):
Both teams have all their time out.

Speaker 1 (02:02:27):
It's a strange way to look at this. This is
a way to eat up some more time on that
clock for a little you know, keeping it away from
Zealand West, moving it back five yards.

Speaker 2 (02:02:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:02:36):
Yeah, it's an extra play, which is an extra one.

Speaker 2 (02:02:37):
We're gonna have to We're gonna have to put some
time back on the clock because it's it started erroneously.

Speaker 1 (02:02:47):
They're gonna correct that eleven for eleven. Okay, So I.

Speaker 2 (02:02:57):
Put a little bit of time back on there, but
clock will starting to the snap because the ball being
out of bounds on the previous play.

Speaker 3 (02:03:03):
So you're right, though, reck.

Speaker 2 (02:03:04):
I mean it almost works out at this point, maybe
a little bit better because it takes more time off
the clock.

Speaker 1 (02:03:11):
They'll give it off to pulling around the left side
down the sideline, twenty fifty to ten part touchdown roll.
The Red Arrows reclaimed the lead from twenty five yards out.
Merrick pulland won a ball game here and all the
Red Arrow's lead.

Speaker 2 (02:03:28):
Well, Poland said, you know what, let's just cash it
in right now. Let's not play any of this clock management.
Gains in the corner and then turns on the Jets.
A tremendous run by Merrick pulland his first touchdown of
the ball game puts the Arrows ahead, and think they're
gonna go with the traditional one point converse.

Speaker 1 (02:03:49):
He boots it through and it's thirty six thirty four long.
You kick it in any case, Lowell back on top
thirty six thirty four for the twenty five yard run
by Mary Colan the junior or the senior rather.

Speaker 2 (02:04:16):
Now another nice drive there by Lowell, and it's been
answer after answer for both teams.

Speaker 3 (02:04:24):
As this time.

Speaker 2 (02:04:26):
Lowell has the answer and they go back out in
front of a seesaw affair. Ever since we started the
second half. Lowell was able to tie the score in
the third quarter. Then it's been back and forth. Zeland
West really the only different so far Rick missed conversions.
Zeland West has missed their last two point conversions, which

(02:04:48):
means that's the two point definite of we were we see.

Speaker 1 (02:04:51):
We were tied at twenty two to seven to eight
third quarter. Since then, each team has scored a touchdout
and as you said, Buck, the uh difference is that
the conversions. Here's a squib kick over towards the sideline
and bounces once it's a live ball, grab down, one
hop out to the thirty and that's about it.

Speaker 2 (02:05:14):
The pullman grabbing the ball there and didn't have much
of the room to run.

Speaker 7 (02:05:18):
And now.

Speaker 2 (02:05:21):
Just under we're just over four minutes ago last looking
at perhaps their last possession.

Speaker 1 (02:05:30):
Thirty six thirty four Lowell lead Zealand West with four
minutes and one second left in this fourth quarter. You're
here the Lowell fans below us back to the T
formation again bringing the cowbells. First down, roll out all

(02:05:53):
breck running ride he wants to run, gets to the
line of scrimmage, breaks a tackle, gets across for about
three maybe four no down. He brought through a three
yard game out to the thirty four yard line. Clock
moving with three forty nine in this fourth quarter. Zealand
West with a football down by a deuce. Second down

(02:06:25):
and seven for ZW. Give to the first banthroom open
to the forty forty five fifty forty five forty. This
is an Eco mancoon to the twenty five and he's
running a bountear the twenty five yard line. Eco moncoon
with a huge carry, got a great block from the
left side of the line that time from Zealand West

(02:06:47):
and they'll say he stepped out at the twenty seven
yard line, but Zealand West knocking on the door.

Speaker 2 (02:06:53):
Only forty yards on the trap up the middle in
mon Coon, even though he's the smallest of the three
in the backfield, he's in the middle or that fullback
spot and just a quick hitting trap off left guard
and then Nco Montgoon pulls away.

Speaker 3 (02:07:09):
Big play for the Ducks.

Speaker 1 (02:07:12):
Montcoon stays in the middle of that running set in
that t formation all breckt give it. The second back
threw off the right side is that Leslie? Yep, Jonah
Leslie on to carry. Leslie scored the touchdown. The last
time Zeland West got to the end zone, clock moving,
we're at three minutes and one second to go.

Speaker 2 (02:07:32):
Well, now you start to think of you're Jacob Hendigy.
You start to have to burn timeouts now right now.

Speaker 3 (02:07:38):
No, But if.

Speaker 2 (02:07:39):
Zeland West is able to get in closer, that's when
you start to have to think about burning them defensively
to try to get the ball back.

Speaker 1 (02:07:45):
But remember, Zealand West does not have a kicking game
that I.

Speaker 3 (02:07:48):
Know, Oh they do not. They're gonna have to get
it in the end.

Speaker 1 (02:07:51):
Zone for that's an advantage. Lowell here up by two
with two thirty nine to go, and now Zealand West
jumps off.

Speaker 3 (02:07:58):
Boy, it's been.

Speaker 2 (02:08:00):
A bugaboo for the Ducks tonight is plenty of times
will have been shifting before the snap and they're just
not getting.

Speaker 3 (02:08:09):
The cadence correctly.

Speaker 2 (02:08:11):
Whether it's miscommunication, whether they can't hear because of the crowd,
whatever that factor is.

Speaker 3 (02:08:16):
That's probably about the fifth one for the Ducks tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:08:21):
This low crowd below us has done a great job
spurring their team on. They've got the lead with two
twenty five to go in counting to Zealand West threatening
here in the waiting moments, all breck along count gives
it to Holman running wide to the right, cuts back
in across the twenty five maybe the twenty three or
twenty two yard line, give him about six third dollars.

(02:08:44):
We approached the two minute well mark.

Speaker 2 (02:08:46):
I mean, this is clearly four down territory for the Ducks.
This one's gonna be third and they're gonna call it six.
Now we've seen Holmans of the outside when they need to.
We've also talked about going to the right Let's see
what they do here.

Speaker 1 (02:09:01):
Rick, everybody packed in tight, no apparent of a pass
right here. On third down and six, all Breck pitches
it back. You'll cross up the twenty yard line, falling forward.
That's about it. You're gonna bring up the biggest player
of the game. On fourth and two here for Zealand

(02:09:22):
West as well.

Speaker 2 (02:09:23):
I mean the clock is running, Rick under a minute,
and the halts now as al Bret goes to the
sideline group.

Speaker 3 (02:09:29):
New Zealand last, you're kind of just leave him this one.
This is potentially it.

Speaker 1 (02:09:33):
Scoreboard says they've got three timeouts left and they're just
he's now just getting back to the huddle. Might smell
a pass here, believe it or not. On fourth and two,
let's call it fourth and three, it's more like a
three yep, biggest play of the game, Lowell crowd roaring.

Speaker 3 (02:09:51):
Fourth and three.

Speaker 1 (02:09:53):
All Breck along count over center, takes it, gets it
off on the right side, plowing forward close to the
first down. I think he got it.

Speaker 3 (02:10:00):
He did. They're actually marking a full yard ahead.

Speaker 2 (02:10:03):
He's at the sixteen, so he will get the first downing.

Speaker 1 (02:10:08):
On the carry. They'll set it and then they'll spot it.
First and ten Zealand West with under a minute to go. Again,
Zealand West has not used the timeouts yet.

Speaker 3 (02:10:16):
I'm kind of surprised.

Speaker 1 (02:10:18):
I am too. I think we'll see a time out
by them after this play. First and ten all breckt
rolling to the right. He wants to run, he's being
a hit in the backfield and he's dropped for a
big loss all the way back at the twenty yard line.
Timeout Zealand West with thirty six seconds to go.

Speaker 2 (02:10:40):
Yeah, well, now I feel like Zealand weston not taking
the time out until now kind of limited the playbook
and they've kind of gave a little bit of a
tell because of the clock running down. Rick, we know
that Zealand West is a deliberate team. Yes, they've had
some big plays for sure, but as you get close
for the goal line, those.

Speaker 3 (02:11:00):
Become tougher to head.

Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
And now it's going to be second down and long,
and as you said, only a couple of timeouts left.
Feels like passing the football is going to be their
best option now with the two timeouts and only thirty
six seconds or thirty three seconds to go. But boy,

(02:11:22):
just tough, tough, position now for Zealand.

Speaker 3 (02:11:26):
West, because they've got to get it into the end.

Speaker 2 (02:11:28):
Zoe. Like we've said multiple times, they don't have a
field goal kicker.

Speaker 1 (02:11:32):
Keep this in mind, Buck Brandon Holman, their outstanding runner
is their top receiver. Watch for number six maybe to
slip out into the flat here on second down and
fourteen from the twenty yard line with thirty six seconds
to go in the game. All breckover center, looks over
the defense, takes the snap, he dropping back to pass.

(02:11:54):
He throws it out here in the flat and it's incomplete.

Speaker 3 (02:11:57):
Yeah, he just rushed that one a little bit. And
you're right.

Speaker 2 (02:12:02):
They go a two man route Leslie Deep Holman to
the flat and Aulerbrech was under just enough pressure he
had to get rid of it. An overshot Holman, he
was Albrick just did not set his feet because of
the pressure. Overthrew it.

Speaker 1 (02:12:25):
Won a great high school football game in the regional championship.
Lowell and Zealand West. Going right down to the final.

Speaker 12 (02:12:31):
Second, they'll teach Brett to take vacation time out called
by Lowell. Lowell here with thirty two seconds, we'll catch
our bread. We'll keep it right here. We don't want
to miss anything.

Speaker 3 (02:12:42):
Book.

Speaker 1 (02:12:42):
Let's talk about the situation now again. You don't have
to get it all here, Buck.

Speaker 2 (02:12:47):
No, it's third down and fourteen on the twenty, so
they can get a first down inside the five.

Speaker 3 (02:12:53):
Now, both teams with two timeouts left.

Speaker 2 (02:12:57):
As you mentioned, they do not have to get it
all here, but they have gone with an attempted.

Speaker 3 (02:13:03):
Pass or at least a pass.

Speaker 2 (02:13:04):
Look the last two snaps, you kind of feel like
a New Zealand West here. Now the ball is on
the far side, which is the right side, which means
it's the right offensive line. That's the way they like
to go if they get the yardage for big plays.
But now it's to the near side, which means there's

(02:13:25):
lest room to work with. I feel like maybe there's
like a counter or a trap or something together. Run
something to get the misdirection and get the defense moving
to one way and try to get them the other way.
That trap with monpoon worked really well. But we'll see
what they've got here.

Speaker 1 (02:13:41):
Here we go third and fourteen, thirty two seconds left,
give up the middle and it's not going anywhere. Time
out and Zealand West with twenty seven seconds ago. It'll
be fourth and long. Lowell's defense one stop away from
winning this ball game. Zealand West, can they pull off
a miracle finish here? Ey seconds? Don't have a fourth

(02:14:02):
down and fourteen after no gain at all on that play.

Speaker 2 (02:14:05):
That was a direct snap to Brandon Holeman. Now they
had three guys in the backfield all acting like they
were gonna get the snap there, and they snapped it
to Holman on the left side and tried to go
right up the middle, and whoa, it's having absolutely.

Speaker 3 (02:14:19):
None of it.

Speaker 2 (02:14:19):
Now with fourth down, not a lot of plays in
that playbook for fourteen yards.

Speaker 3 (02:14:24):
They gotta find one here.

Speaker 2 (02:14:26):
You mentioned Holman, probably the most attractive target for Ali Brecht.

Speaker 3 (02:14:32):
Leslie's been out there too, Grady Patrick.

Speaker 2 (02:14:34):
Another one that in the West Catholic game was opened
a couple of times, just didn't get the ball.

Speaker 3 (02:14:39):
He gotta be prepared for him. This is one of
those where.

Speaker 2 (02:14:42):
Maybe it's somebody that hasn't shown up quite yet in
the score. Buck fourth makes a big play.

Speaker 1 (02:14:48):
All right, the low the function backs have to be
very cognizant of where that first down marker is. Here
we go, twenty seven seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Lowell leagues two, fourth and fourteenth for Zealand, west Wall
breck back to pass, he's looking, he throws it out
here in the flat and it's complete and Lowell's gonna
win the game out of the hands a lesson. But

(02:15:12):
even if he caught it, there were punt of defenders.
The Lowell defense holds, gets it on down and the
Red errors are gonna move on to the semi finals
in Division three.

Speaker 3 (02:15:24):
Well, tough sequence to Leslie. He was the one that
was in.

Speaker 2 (02:15:28):
The end zone dropping the two point conversion that we
thought he had caught initially, and then they throw it
to him in the right though. I mean he's upset,
but I mean he was well short of the first
down marker.

Speaker 3 (02:15:42):
Rick, I mean, I don't.

Speaker 1 (02:15:43):
He would have had he would have had to break
at least two two tackles he was.

Speaker 2 (02:15:46):
I mean he caught the ball at nearly the fifteen
yard line. It would have been, like you said, it
would have been a real tough road to get to
the first down marker. But a valiant effort by the Ducks.
Just a tremendous football game. Two teams, and like I
said at the beginning, somebody is not gonna be happy
because they have to hang it up after a tremendous effort.

Speaker 3 (02:16:08):
And that's gonna be the ducts of Dealing West tonight.
A great season for Jeff Ballhouse in his first year,
comes to it end tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:16:15):
Lowell takes a knee. The final seconds will tick off.
The Zealand West players are heartbroken on the far side,
Lowell celebrating on the near side. They'll meet at the
center field and shake hands. Won a ball game. Final
score in this one Lowell thirty six, Zealand West thirty

(02:16:35):
four will take one break, come back and summarize this
one on the drive to Ford Field. Regional Final action

W BFx Grand Rapids.

Speaker 1 (02:16:56):
What a whale of a game here at Bob Perry
Field at Red Arrows. The low Red Arrows hold off
the Zealand West Ducks at the very end, Cealand West
moving for a potential game winning touchdown in the final minutes,
Celand West holds them on downs and they win at
thirty six thirty four. Cealand West moves on to the
regional or the semi finals and Division III, probably against

(02:17:19):
Mount Pleasant, which had a two touchdown lead over Ees
Grand Rapids and the whaling moments in Mount Pleasant. Nets

Speaker 2 (02:18:23):
Yes, lots of ink spilled down the scoring summary. First
with wol opening the scoring twenty five yard touchdown run
by Ike seven to nothing Arrows and then it was
Zealand West all Holman all the time, three touchdowns and
two two point conversions, all by Brandon Holman, twenty two
to seven Zealand West.

Speaker 3 (02:18:40):
Well.

Speaker 2 (02:18:40):
I think they might start to run away with it,
but the woll was able to answer with an Ike
two yard touchdown run that narrowed the score to twenty
two to fourteen.

Speaker 3 (02:18:47):
And they were not able to convert on a.

Speaker 2 (02:18:49):
Fourth and goal to end the half, and that could
have pulled them within one point, but they still had
a lot of momentum coming out of the locker room.
They get a stop and then on their first drive
of the second half able to tie the score with
a Dawson four yard touchdown run and a toss and
two point conversion pass. Then Zealand West takes the lead
back with a seventy one yard touchdown pass from Albreck

(02:19:10):
to Leslie. They missed the two point conversion twenty eight
to twenty two. Ducks loll answering seven yard touchdown run
Logan Dawson the cavers, the pat is good.

Speaker 3 (02:19:21):
And it's twenty nine to twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (02:19:23):
Lowell takes the lead Zealand West back down the field.
They answer ten yard touchdown run by Leslie Pat again fails.
That would be key to tonight's result because that left
to score thirty four to twenty nine. Lowell then, on
their last possession of the game, save the one kneel down,

(02:19:43):
pulling a twenty yard touchdown run from twenty yards Again
the pat is good in the cavers makes the final
score thirty six to thirty four.

Speaker 3 (02:19:55):
The marriage and of victory.

Speaker 2 (02:19:56):
Those two point conversions that were missed by zeal The
East in the second half. They failed to convert on
both of their second half touchdowns and that's how the
final score ended.

lot of.

Speaker 2 (02:20:29):
Different possibilities that it could be, but we're gonna go
with the quarterback, Logan Dawson. He had two touchdown runs
of four and seven yards, but I think the underrated
part of his game tonight was the passing several long
passes down the field that were really well thrown balls
and a couple of big third down conversions because of that,
and so Logan Dawson's gonna be a Uptown Cheapskate offensive

(02:20:52):
player of the game tonight and.

Speaker 2 (02:21:04):
Game, Carter Axley from Lowell was a force inside all night,
number fifty eight for the Red Arrows. Plenty of tackles,
pressure on the quarterback, and he was the one that
really helped cement that defensive line in the second half
on the two point conversion tries. Carter Oxley, You're gonna

(02:21:24):
be our Montel Construction defensive player of the game and.

Speaker 1 (02:21:28):
The Garrett Appliance, Dependable player of the game. He brought
to you by Garrett's Appliance. Can't win and on twenty
eighth Street.

Speaker 2 (02:21:37):
Well, I mean, you can't go this whole game, Rick
without giving something to somebody from the Ducks. Heartbreaking loss
for them, two points the final margin of victory. But
Brandon Holman in his final game three touchdowns to two
point conversions for twenty two points total. He was the

(02:21:59):
guy that they looked for in the clutch every single
time they try to pass to him there late in
the game, as he is one of their most sure
handed receivers. He is really kind of the heart meat
of that offense. I know they had a lot of
different contributors, but Brandon Holman tonight, when they needed him,
was always dependable and so forth Tonight's Garrett's Dependable Appliances,
dependable player of the game, Brandon Holman from Zealand West.

Speaker 1 (02:22:23):
That leaves just our play of the game. We had
four lead changes in the second half, and it's right
in the second half alone, it was twenty two all.
Then he's touched down by Zeeland West, by Lowell, then
by Zeeland West, so Lowell was down twenty thirty four
to twenty nine. Drove the ball down to the twenty
five yard line and it was time for our play
of the game, provided by Merrik Pullan of the Lowell
Red Arrows. They'll give it off to Pulling around the

(02:22:45):
left side down the sideline, twenty fifty to ten, high touchdown.

Speaker 2 (02:22:49):
Loll the Red.

Speaker 1 (02:22:50):
Arrows right claim the lead trunk twenty five yards out.
Merrick Pulland won a ball game here in Lowell. The
Red Arrows lead, and that would turn out to be
the final point of the game, but not the final
excitement of the game, as the fans found out of
here got their money's worth. I want to mention a
little classy thing here because I've seen it happen, not

(02:23:11):
quite as this extreme. They presented the trophy to the
little Red Els for the regional title and they received
it out there and celebrating midfield as they should. But
the Zealand West team came out and lined up next
to them and watched them receive the trophy and applauded them,
and there were very good sports about it. That's a
very good positive sign.

Speaker 2 (02:23:28):
Yeah, that's what you want to see. That's what high
school sports are all about wreck. It's a sportsmanship, it's
the life lessons in football, very oddly specific for high
school because you know, you can play rex softball, you
can do rec pretty much anything nowadays, but.

Speaker 3 (02:23:46):
There is no Rectagle football.

Speaker 9 (02:23:48):
Thanks for listening to tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:23:49):
You can't do anything after high school if you don't
play in college. There is no football after that. So
for a lot of these kids, this is the last
game if they're a senior that they will play. So
a lot of mixed emotions out there. But I really
like what Jeff Bullhouse and his team did this year,
coming in for a legend John Schilite. I really can't
fault him tonight for anything that happened. I mean, they

(02:24:12):
played a very good game. Yes they had some penalties,
but I think that was more nerves than anything else.
And I think Jeff Bullhouse did a great job and
I think he's got a long future here at Zealand West.

Speaker 1 (02:24:22):
So Zealand West concludes its season at eight and four.
On the campaign, Lowell improves to ten and two goes
to the semi finals next week. In Division three, Joe,
did we get a final from Mount Pleasant yet by
any chance?

Speaker 11 (02:24:36):
And nope, but it is still late in the fourth quarter.
East Ground Rapids looks like they're using their timeouts. It's
still twenty eight to fourteen Plot Pleasant, though it looks
like Mount Pleasant's gonna.

Speaker 1 (02:24:45):
Win all right. Thanks joe Er for that update, and
thanks to Joe with the scores all night long. There
will be a game next week. We don't know if
it will be where he'll be and who you're gonna
be coming, but there will be a game next week
in the semi finals. Buck with you and Brett Bakita.

Speaker 3 (02:24:58):
Well, I mean we're gonna have a lot of choices.

Speaker 2 (02:25:01):
I mean there are still some local teams that are
going to be of course active. Hudsonville Unity Christian was
out to an early big lead on Big Rapids. Of course,
woll winning here tonight at Red Arrow Stadium, you're gonna
have either Hudsonville or East Kentwood winner that game tomorrow
afternoon is going to move on to the semifinal round.

(02:25:23):
There Kent City in Division six playing Montrose. They could
advance to their first semifinal in I believe at school history,
I don't believe they've ever made it to the semifinals.
But either way, a local team doing well, and then
West Catholic by all accounts, should be moving on against
Kellumbaze United tonight. They were up seventeen to nothing late
in that one. So a lot of chances for us

(02:25:45):
to go out to a local game or a local
teams game at least and see some good football in
the semifinal round.

Speaker 1 (02:25:50):
Let's go back to the studio. Joe's got another update, Joseph.

Speaker 11 (02:25:53):
Even though the the eg R Mount Pleasant is not
a final, we do have one that is going to
be setting up for next week. As we know, Hudsonville
in East Kentwood will play tomorrow at Hudsonville. The winner
will get Detroit Catholic Central. They have defeated Clarkston tonight
forty two to thirteen.

Speaker 1 (02:26:07):
All right, so that might be an option. So we'll
keep an eye, Brett. We'll announce it what Monday morning
on Wood Radio where the game will be. Will be
with you with him and Buck was great. Are working
with you once again.

Speaker 3 (02:26:17):
Yeah, we only spent one night here.

Speaker 1 (02:26:19):
We didn't have to come back right last time.

Speaker 3 (02:26:22):
No, it's good to be with you. Reck.

Speaker 2 (02:26:24):
I'm so happy to get this opportunity and now I
can say worked with the Hall of Famer because Grand
Rapid Sports Hall of Famer inductee Rick Burkey was with
us on the call tonight, So thanks for stepping in
for Brett as he was he was on leave tonight
and it is a pleasure. Hey, you got a lot
of entertainment. What the heck of a ball game here tonight?

Speaker 1 (02:26:42):
Well he doesn't know. I'm charging him by the point,
all right. So again they'll have a game next week.
Bret will announce Monday where you're gonna be. I want
to thank host Athletic Director Pat Russell from Lowell. Thanks
so much both coaches supplied to us their information. Appreciate that.
That'll do it one final time here from Bob harry
Field at Joe redd Aero Stadium. Thanks to my partner

(02:27:03):
Buck Geno and for Joe Aron back in the studio,
Rick Burkey. Once again, the final tally here a thriller
in the Division III Regional final Lowell thirty six and
Zealand West thirty four. So long, everybody,

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
