Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good Thursday, Ive never one and welcome live to Cornerstone
University's maul Arena where tonight here on ninety six to
one in the game, we continue our coverage of the
CU High School Hoops Hollida Tournament with a great boys
matchup as the three and four Broncos of Coopersville, always
tough underhead coach Pete Van Kempen, square off with the
five and one Vikings of Cadillac making the ninety mile

(00:22):
jaunt down to the Grand.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Rapids area out of the Big North Conference.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Hello over one and happy new year as we tip
off our third LMCU high School basketball Game of the
Week this season, but first one in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
And I welcome in my third different partner when.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
It comes to basketball court side here, Tom Kender for
the Lake Shore.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Tom, Happy New Year to you, and I know you're excited.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
This is going to be a great matchup tonight, one
that people don't want to underestimate with Coopersville and Cadillac,
two really good programs that hard to believe are now
Division one programs.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Yeah, neither one of them are happy about it, Brett.
They're two of the smallest D one schools in the state.
But they can both play basket. They're a very impressive seasons.
Last year both of them had great records and now
they're seeing what they can do this year.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Cadillac off to a great start.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Coopersville has been struggling a little bit, but they played
a really tough schedule.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
I expect this to be a really good game. I
love holiday basketball.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
You know, when you're cooped up all over the Christmas
a lot of family, it's good to get out and
have some fun. And you got to hand at the Cornerstone.
This is a tournament growing every year. Sixty four different
teams have been able to play in this Cornerstone Tournament
on a college campus.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
So really cool. Glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah, and you know what it is, day eight of
a nine day tournament. They'll also have coming up on Tuesday,
kind of a special night with Byron Center in Rockford
boys basketball where all three programs will play here. And
trust me, that varsity boys basketball game is going to
be a good one. Two of the top teams in
the area Tuesday night. If you want to come out
for the action seven o'clock to tip off for that one.

(01:57):
These teams all playing tonight as we're wrapping up the
girls game with it at Christian getting to win over Sparta.
Then we're gonna have on the boys side Greenville and
Kent City going up after Cadillac and Coopersville, and then
those teams will swap and play on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
That will wrap it up here at Cornerstone University.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
But you're right, they make it bigger and better every year,
and it is such a great experience, and I love
the State of Michigan flavor they've had this year.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
From the East, from the north, from the west, They're
coming from all over the place. Yeah they are.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
You know this year holt Okamus, Portage Northern was here, Plumbo.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Westphalia was here.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
But now I got a chance to talk to Coopersville
coach Pete Van Kempen before this game, and you know,
the game after this is Greenville and Greenville seven and zero.
He said that they're probably the favorite in the first
year the River City's Alliance, and he's eager to get
a look at them as well. But don't forget about Coopersville.
He's a very good coach and like I said, last

(02:51):
year they were had a great record, and now this
year they're struggling a little bit, but this is a
good program.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
I think they're gonna turn it around.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
One of the things we gotta talk about the vikings
of Cadillac for those people aren't familiar. You mentioned how
good this program has been the last few years, and
they play up in my opinion, when you're looking at Gaylor,
you're looking at Traverse City West some of the teams
they face, and Travers City West has been their only
loss so far. So they played some conference games already.
They kind of go twice through. But this is a

(03:20):
huge basketball team. Six eight six six six four. They
got a six to six freshman they bring off the bench,
Tom Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
This is the this is the night where Coopersville wishes
they had gave Van sickle back. I saw just saw
him last night on the sidelines for Ohio State and
the rose ball. They could use him today because this
Cadillac team is huge. They got the six to eight
big guy Kyle McGowan, but they also their starters. They
also have a six to six two six fours. Their

(03:47):
point guard is six to two. So the size of Cadillac,
that's the challenge for Coopersville. Can they find a way
to neutralize it. Can they maybe open up the game
a little bit and run on them, because uh, getting
a half court game of Cadillac, they could be in trouble.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
And I think he'll enjoy Coopersville and Pete van Kampen
and what his staff do because they love to challenge you.
I mean, it's a chess match the way he looks
at it. They'll throw zone at a two three matchup.
But they won't sit back like a Syracuse and just
kind of let you make a mistake. They'll be aggressive
on it. This team gets after you, especially on the perimeter.
They have a lot of steals with their guards, and
he's saying, we.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Need to do that.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
We need to somehow get extra possessions against teams because
we lost such a good group of seniors last year
and so they're trying to manufacture points.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
That also gets them out Tom in transition. And when
they do, don't look for him necessarily to go to
the basket.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
They'll penetrate and kick out because this team loves to
shoot the three.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yes they do, and they have one of the best
in the area in Judah Bartell's. After a little bit
of a slow start, if he gets going I think
that's a real key to this game tonight, Judah Bartell's
if he's able to get going, he's only averaging eleven
a game. They're thinking he should be averaging maybe double.
That gets going tonight, especially from deep, I think we're

(05:01):
gonna have a great game.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
And don't forget it's his future home because he's gonna
be a Cornerstone Golden Eagle next year after he graduates. Well,
speaking of Pete ban Kamp and I had a chance
to go with the Montel Construction coaches corner with him
a little bit earlier today. We'll share that with you
as we continue with the J and H Family Stores
pregame show. After this, it's Thursday Night hoops right here
on ninety six to one the game.

Always still look at myself as a high performing athlete,
even at forty years old, and so I want to
be able to run and run fast and do things
that I could fifteen and twenty years ago. And it
was getting the point where the pain was starting to limit.

Speaker 6 (06:33):
That pain attacks people from all walks of life, not
just former professional athletes like Bobby Carpenter. That's where QC
Kinetics nonsurgical treatment steps in.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
And now that the pain is gone, I've been able
to go and do the stuff that I love and
run fast and run sprints and try to get back
to where I was.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
QUC Kinetics Regenerative treatments use your body's own healing properties
to deliver long term relief without surgery.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
Now being able to go and work out and do
this that I want to do and challenge my body,
It's made me a better person, more pleasant person to
be around.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
And welcome back to the J and HS Family Stores
pregame show. Brepikita join now in our Montel Construction Coaches
Corner segment with Coopersville head coach Pete Van Kempen joined
us in coach first and foremost. Congratulations. So fun to
watch you guys last year. And it was a senior
leaden bunch, but twenty one in four made it to
the district finals and that great game that we covered

(07:45):
with Northview. You guys fall fifty eight to fifty one,
but on that road knocked off Rockford in the semi
finals and that was just a great basketball team as
far as Coopersville history.

Speaker 8 (07:54):
Ah, Yeah, I agree with you. I think I thought
our team played really well altogether. We had a couple
kids that just five to ten kids that just gelled
and they really liked each other, and it was an
enjoyable season for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
And the reason I bring that up, coaches is you know,
you lay the foundation for the next group to follow,
and you've got some nice guys back. Judah Bartells is
kind of your senior leader. He's going to cornerstone. We'll
talk about him in a minute, and then obviously from
the football season I get a chance to watch him
twice over and he really did a nice job for
you guys as a sophomore last year. I thought in
that tournament Roun Brooks hadn't I mean, talk about these

(08:29):
two guys that lead your club now in the twenty
four to twenty five edition.

Speaker 8 (08:33):
Yeah. So, Judah is a third year of varsity player.
He's grown physically every year. I think he's about six
three now, probably not even done growing yet, and just
a really good athlete, plays really hard all the time.
Kind of struggled a little bit from shooting threes at
the beginning of this year, more than he has in
his first two years. And that's hurt him a little

(08:55):
bit scoring wise, but he does a lot of things
for us. He plays a ton of minutes. He did
last year too, because he's just so well rounded. Brooks
another really good athlete. Obviously, you saw him play football
quick in short spaces and again he's been shooting pretty
well lately, which has expanded his game a lot because

(09:16):
he's good enough to get by people to remedies. Really again,
another really good defender for us who gets his hands
in the ball a lot.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
And speaking of that coach, I mean that's really a
theme for this team. You're not as big as you
were a year ago with the big fellow gay Van Sickle.
He's off to a football career at Ohio State, and
you know he had lanky guards and Eli Spencer was
a nice leader for you as well. But you got
Nate d Wall, you got Joel Sandford. I mean, these
guys can knock on the threes. But when I watch
film of you in the games you played so far,
you come into this tournament at three and four is scrappy.

(09:46):
Lots of steals. You guys are really aggressive on the
defensive end.

Speaker 8 (09:50):
Uh yeah, we're one of those teams that plays a zone,
but we're not really sitting back. We're coming to get you.
We try to create make it uncomfortable. Joel Sandford and
Nate are leading our team in steals by quite a bit.
I think Nate doesn't even hasn't even started most of
the year and he comes in off the bench and

(10:12):
just immediately makes an impact defensively. And yeah, that's kind
of how we're built. We try to turn people over,
try to turn try to get our hands on the
ball as much as we can and hopefully get some
easy baskets out of it.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Coopers will lead, Coach join us in the Montel Construction
coaches corners. We count you down to tip off, Pete
Van Kempen and Coach before we get to Cadillac, your
opponent tonight here in the CU High School Hoops Holiday Tournament.
I want to ask you about obviously another change for
you and everyone's going through it, whether they're in the
Okay Conference or in your case, a brand new conference
is born, the River City's Alliance. And when you look

(10:47):
at that from a boys basketball perspective, what do you see,
Because obviously it was very competitive, a lot of parody
in the football.

Speaker 9 (10:54):
Season same thing, you know.

Speaker 8 (10:58):
I look around watch our scores, course, you know, and
your only comparison really is, okay, whould they play? Who
have they done well against? And you know there's teams.
Allen Dale's got a very good record, Grandville, Greenville I
think is undefeated. I think almost everybody has a winning
record or very close to it and won some games
big and except for us, and I think it will

(11:21):
be very competitive. I'm looking forward to it. I think
we have a bunch of new teams and yeah, we'll see.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
When you look at this matchup tonight, Cadillac comes in
at five and one out of the Big North Conference.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
They're lone loss to Traverse City West.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
I watched a little bit of film you did as
well on them, obviously to prepare.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
What do you see?

Speaker 1 (11:40):
I see a team that certainly likes to shoot to three,
and they're pretty big and athletic, aren't they.

Speaker 8 (11:45):
Yeah, this is a really good basketball team that we're
going to get to play tonight. They they're physical, very
thick kids, I would say, like wide kids who get
after it. They have a couple of players who, again
you know you're only seeing them on film, but look
very lanky too. And yeah, it's gonna be a really

(12:06):
good challenge for us. They shoot the three a lot,
but again, I think their strength is their physicalness, getting
offensive rebounds, getting defensive rebounds, and the defensive rebound at
a really high rate. And we're gonna have to kind
of see who wins the battle of the boards tonight.
I think will make a big difference.

Speaker 9 (12:23):
Coach.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Finally, how does your schedule?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
I mentioned you guys are three and four, but you've
played a tough schedule Granville, Wyoming. You're getting a lot
of different matchups. There a lot of different teams and
styles Whitehall with camp Thompson a phenomenal athlete, how does
that prepare you for this matchup with kind of.

Speaker 8 (12:39):
Like you think, Well, I don't know. I think each
game has its own entity a little bit because of matchups.
But I think we're learning to play harder and harder.
We're learning to that takes a whole game to play,
not just a quarter, not just a half. And again,
I'm really excited about our schedule. Like you said, a
bunch of different people, a bunch of different styles and

(13:00):
can make you better.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Well, coach, good luck tonight, Happy New Year again, and
we look forward to covering the Broncos this evening.

Speaker 8 (13:06):
All right, Brett, thank you, Brett PIKEITTI here.

Benzenberg, yep, just like it looks.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Welcome back live to Cornerstone University.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Is mul Aarena Brepiktta, Tom Kendrick courtside for this one
before we give you our starting laughs.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Brought to you by Sporting You Tonight's pregame show brought to.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
You by Jdah's Family Stores with now sixty plus locations
across Michigan to serve you. Jnh's Family Stores stop down
the way to your next game or on your way home.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Well, you're starting lasts. First of all.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
For the Vikings of Cadillac, Ryan Benzenberg in his eleventh
year coming down from the Great White North. I don't
know if they have snow on the ground like we do,
but we don't have much, so I think they'd probably
have a little more. And they're off to a great
start for the twenty twenty four to twenty five campaign
at five and one out of the Big North Conference,
three and one in conference play.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Eli Main is a senior guard number two.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
He can fill it up along with Grant Williams number four.
Pretty experienced club Kyle Ross excuse me, Kle McGowan is
their big six foot eight senior center in the post,
but he can run the floor block shots as well.
Then Gavin Gates is senior number thirty three, along with
Bailey Wade another senior number forty two to round out
the starting five for the Vikings, four Coopersville and Pete

(14:47):
Van Kempen.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
They come in at three and four. The Broncos twenty.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
One and four year ago got all the way to
the Division one District final just down the road at
Forest Hill's Northern High School. Judoh Bartels is their leading
scorer coming he and over one of them.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
They have three guys in double digits. He is number two.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Then Carter mechis the senior number five. He's kind of
their post presence, their bruiser and rebounder down low. Joel
Sanford can really fill it up. Number ten to senior.
He's gotten off to a slow start but starting to
heat up. The last couple of games they lost by
just ten over in a Lake Shore Holiday tournament in
Miskegon to Whitehall Brooks. Hadden't the junior outstanding wide receiver

(15:28):
on the gridiners. We know when defense sive back with
all those ants, but he's a tarn good basketball player
as well. And then Nathan de Wall another guy who
can fill it up, and he's a past defense player
with a lot of steels. The junior number twenty two
to round out the starting five for the Broncos. Opening
tip Vikings moving right to left on your radio down
just the opposite for Coopersville in their home greens, they

(15:49):
win the tap with the white numbers, the great trim
Vikings come out man the man pressure defense of the
visiting White with the dark blue numbers and the gold
trim out top with the basketball. Bartels dribbles around his
man with the left hand, then bumped as he got
in the lane. Easy call against Grant Williams. And that's
one thing I think to watch the smaller Coopersville team.

(16:11):
We know the Cadillac is big, but what is their
lateral quickness against this Coopersville bunch.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Yeah, that's what we're gonna be looking at today. Brody Rotman,
normally a starter for Coopersville at six ' five, not
starting instead Nathan de Wall. I don't know if coach
if coach Van Kempen is looking to get a little
more a speed into the lineup against this bigger team.
But let's see if Rotman gets into the game.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Later on the inbounce hat and has it.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
They leave it now foward to wall penetrates cut off
needs some help. Finally leaves it in the corner left
side to mechus mechus one on one matchup badly with
Bailey Wade, dribble penetration, no shot clock room over in
high school basketball, kick out right wing now back in
the quarter could close out that time My gavigates and
now a strip steel Here come the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Out.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Maybe the break down the way step through. McGowan can't
finish at the rim. He saw his athleticism there at
six foot eight rebound Coopersville.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Yeah, Bronco's nice move there for a six to eight guy,
very impressive.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Couldn't get it to go down low.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Nice job of gathering himself when he went up, but
couldn't finish with Bartel's rebound cleared by McGowan in amongst
the trees there, and Bartel's pretty good size. He goes
about six four sixty five. Viking's out top. Now this
coveted two three matchup zone and they'll extend it out
Tom for Coopersville and really try to frustrate the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
You'd like to shoot the three mc gowing back you down.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Nice passing the post, drawing two defenders, jumps it off.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
The way, who puts it up an end?

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Wow, nice vision. Very impressed. So farre with McGowan. He's
more than just a six to eight guy. He can
handle the ball and he can pass. A beautiful dish there.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Sporting You starting lineups brought to you by Sporting You
branding you since twenty twelve. They have what you need
to look your best check out there gear at inventory
online at Sporting letteru dot com.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Kick out right wing. Bartels couldn't get the three step.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Through move Vikings fans thought he traveled, couldn't finish tip
out and Coopersville resets the top of the circle, swings
it left side in the corner. Good look at a three,
sets his puppies and knocks it down. Judah Bartels, that's.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
What they need, Brett. They that's what the Broncos they need.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Judah Bartels.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
He's their star player and he hits as a nice
corner three pointer.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
There eleven points per game for Bartel's coming in hadn't
just gets him by one to twelve point three T three, but.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Knocking it down.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Good luck on the pump fake to free himself against
the defender.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
That's Eli Maine.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
Not normally a good three point shooting team. But they
make their first attempt do the Vikings had.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Now the dribble drive left it short, got bumped a
little bit. Vikings will be physical and Grant Williams clears
the rebound as he left it short. Two three match
up again. They throw over the top McGowan extra pass
left side wasn't ready for it.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
But gathers it. Here comes a double team.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Good job of the Broncos extra pass m corner and
now we have a whistle and three second violation against McGowan.
Never cleared delay in that time after he got double
teams on the kickout.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
And just noticing so fire Cadillac. They do a nice
job moving the ball offensively challenging the defense of Coopersville.
They don't take a lot of bad shots, and Coopersville
is gonna have to be keep its defensive pressure up.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Oh no, look past that time to No One home
as Brody Rotman, just Jack Jin you mentioned the big fello.
Only a junior goes about six five sixty six against
this size, so not too long for him to come
off the bench of the five to zero five mark
full court pressured out two two to one applied by Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
They'll change that.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
Up just to kind of get you thinking about taking
care of the basketball.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
Wade, the big fellow the backcourt helps out.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Now Maine again lets a guy fly by and knocks
down another three. Boy.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
I love how he sets himself.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Eli Maine doesn't rush himself, and he's got his second
triple tonight.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
Yeah, beautiful for him there for Eli Mayin. He's the
little guy at six to two, but what a beautiful
release there. He's hot early.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
Jude Bartel's now called for the travel trying to hop
step through and checking out is coach Van Kempen going
quickly through his lineup. Back in there's Carter Mechis head
and we'll check out Tom will we get a chance here,
we'll go to our bandalid home Improvement Keys to the contest.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Interesting these two teams.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
Similar but yet different. And one thing's for sure. We
know they like to knock down the three, which is
great for our Basket for Kids campaign with Kids Food Basket,
we've had three already kick out another three on the way.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
That one's way off the.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Mark that time by Williams, but the follow us up
and in make that Grant Williams off the.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Miss from Gavin Gates that time a great blockout by
Grant Williams against Carter Mechis was able to get the
offensive rebound in the bucket.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Look at Cadillac hitting the deck on the loose ball
and they feed McCaw And again this team good in
transition for their size. And if I'm gonna go against Coopersville,
and I think Pete Van Keppen going to take a
quick time out here. It will be a full timeout,
so we'll step aside. Four h six left to go
in the opening quarter, back and forth we go. It's
Cadillac ten Coopersville three, and you'll listen to the LMCU

(21:10):
High School basketball game of the week here on ninety
six to one the game. Using the Clorox disinfecting wipe
to clean that stuck on sauce from the stove feels like,
oh boy, the tickles.

Speaker 9 (21:29):
Stop.

Speaker 4 (21:31):
It feels like coming home to your needy corgi after
a long.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Day, best part of the day.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Finally with Clorox, clean feels care free, clean feels good.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Use as directed.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Ten three Cadillac nice runout here and the Vikings will
be going to the free throw line. Coming up, Tom,
let's quickly at the pace has been back and forth.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Here go to our.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Vandalant home improvement Keys to the contest. How do you
see this one breaking down?

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Well, the number one thing for Coopersville is to handle
the size of Cadillac six ' eight Kyle McGowan. That's
why it kind of surprised me that Brody Rotman wasn't
in the starting lineup. He's gonna be a key to
the game. Brody Rotman and also uh Carter Mechis. Those
two are gonna have to come up big to neutralize
that size. And then the second key for Coopersville is
to get Judah Bartel's going. He hit his first three pointer,

(22:21):
but he's been quiet ever since.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
They need to keep him going.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
And then finally, I just think the pressure is gonna
be a big key for Coopersville. The only loss for
Cadillac came against Trever City West, and Trevor's City West
pressured him to death. Coopers Viille is gonna have to
get some pressure in order to hang with this team.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Kyle McGowan gets his first in the two games we
have stats out. Obviously they played more than that, just
under sixty percent for the big man at the free
throw line around and out of the second. But we
have a whistle and I think a lane violation he's
gonna be against Coopersville for McGowan to get another look.
Eleven three hour scores. You mentioned Bartel's that loan three

(23:00):
is it for Coopersville In this opening quorder which is
being brought to you by a straight line fence offencing
company in grand rapids with a personal touch. McGowan takes
advantage of the second opportunity, gets them both after the
lane violation twelve three. Our score quickly up on the
left side, flying down Bartel's swings and out top that Samford.
Samford and I spin in the lane, goes up shot

(23:20):
blocked from behind. Oh coach Benzenberger can't believe he thought
McGowan got all ball against a smaller Sanford. But they're
gonna get him with a hit across the wrist and
so that'll send Samford to the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
I think that was a good call, Brett.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
I could hear a little slap over here, but a
good aggressive take by Sandford. That's what Coopersville needs to do.
Kind of a little danger zone down nine, be aggressive,
taken to the taken to the basket.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
And you look at Coopersville, I mean three and four,
little deceiving.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
I mean, you know the competition they've played.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Whitehall's very good, led by camp Thompson, who's going to
Western Michigan to play football and basketball.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
I mean, that guy just fills up the stat line.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
He's a tripled bubble waiting to happen, and they only
lost by ten. Tough loss to Granville, but they beat
the Wyoming I mean they played a lot of good
teams all ready for Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
So once again the River City's alliance.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
I think they're gonna be one of the teams along
with Greenville as you mentioned to look out for.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
I think so for sure.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
Yeah, Greenville probably the favorite, but Cooper's will be right there.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
Sam forgot the second free throw.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Now down on the other end of whistles, they go
down low again to McGowan.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Seems to be triggering their offense and they're gonna have.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
A foul called against Joseph Martinez. Make that Clayton Bosh,
that junior forward had just checked in for Pete Van Kempen.
I'll throw out top and Maine just kind of lost
his footing that times. He tried to pull up in
the left elbow. Somehow though the soft touch got it
to roll over the front of the rim and in
back to the way triple try on the way and

(24:50):
good knocking it down to wall and he can do
that from the right corner.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
That's huge for Coopersville.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Brett that someone else gets involved for three point Land.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
Oh and now bosh.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
It came with a reach in against the pressure as
Cadillac got it into.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
The front courts.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
To Grant Williams wholesale substitutions. Now on both sides. Cadillac
coming in with Clayton Pottingen senior guard and Coopersville Van
ken Ban will do this until he gets a lineup
he likes, and also just to keep fresh because of
the defensive intensity and pressure.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
It's like hockey lines coming in and out.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
Brooks Hadden back in for the Broncos, also checking in
Ethan Alpha Rank is senior guard. With the basketball and
the inbounds. His gates swing left side to Maine has
been off to a hot start.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
He's got eight to lead the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
Bounce past left side, pop mn back over to Maine
out top. Look at that pressure defense, extend out the
two to three matchup zone.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
Feed the middle.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Good job.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Now you gotta watch it when you turn to face up.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
That's what Coopersville wants you to do with Elf Ranks
wiped it away from the backside, but out of bounds
against Wade.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
You almost have the steel there. I love the analogy,
like a hockey Lin's yep, because that's really what coach
Van Kempen is thinking here.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
This is a big team.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
We're gonna use our depth, try to use our speed,
and when you guys are out.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
There, he needs one hundred percent effort all the time.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
They keep track of deflections, which has become a big
stat in basketball.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
Turn around jump a half.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Look no by Gates rebound battle for sliding out of
the floor.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
He's helping all the way to the front court. Great job.
I hadn't saw's athleticism there.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
Now in the corner triple try know that time by
Alpha rank offensive rebound of Bartels lost in.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
Here come the Vikings back on the attack.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
S Wing it left side of the corner of potman
feeding down the lane. Gates kicks opposite to Meine He's
been the hot hand so far. But look at that
extension of the two three matchup zone. Not an easy
look for Cadillac. Bronco's hustling all over the place. They
like to knock it away from behind when you dribble
pass them. Now kick out in the corner.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Nice job.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
And as you mentioned, Grant Williams, Johnny on the spot
Vikings with the ex pass and that's been critical against Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
It sure has.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
And Grant Williams he was the star of the last game,
a big rivalry win for Cadillac over Potoski fifty five
fifty one, and Potoski did a great job shutting down
the big guy McGowan. It was Grant Williams that stepped up,
scored fifteen points in that game and he showed it there.
They left him open and he made him pay for it.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Well.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Speaking of depth, you look at the Vikings with the
different options they have. Grant Williams at ten points per game,
Eli Mayne at just under ten points per game. Mcgowa
at ten points per game can stop one. But you
can't stop a wall Tom.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
That's a problem.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
Seventeen to eight, Vikings leading by nine under two minutes
left to go on in the opening corner, had him with
the penetration nicely that time on the backside going to baseline.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
That's Brody Rottman.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Yeah, Brooks had and what an athlete loved watching him
in football. Just great vision that time getting the ball
to Rotman and Coopersville dialing up the intensity a little
bit here.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
On nice inside out game gates right side unable to
knock it down.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
Was Dominic Wing the freshman who goes six.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Six, he can really shoot the three second chance opportunity. Cadillac, No,
but they get another offensive rebound taking it out as
Gavin Gates over right side. Maine no on the long
Caremere's wing.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Just too many offensive rebounds right now, Coopersville has got
two bocks out.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
Potman over the.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Gates of the middle mcgow and Nice off and under
that time they went high low to Eli Main for two.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Again, just too many chances that time, what was it
three or four offensive rebounds on that trip down the court.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
And that's the problem with the size we were talking
about Bartel's now Nice Strong moved through the lane, couldn't
finish though rebound. Cadillac, can I tell you what the
Vikings looked a little bit gas here as they were
running down obviously with that nine point lead, but coopers
without the other thing you can't underestimate. Did they make
you work on your possession? Is unable to corral the
rebound that time was hadden't on.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
The miss by the Vikings from three.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
So Cadillac will get it back here up nine nineteen
to ten with thirty five point eight seconds left to
go in this opening quarter.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Yeah, Cadillac's been very impressive. They have the size, but
I'm impressed with the way they run that half court offense.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
They spread you out, easy.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Entry to Maine, but way off the mark air ball.
Here comes Brooks Hadden. Final thirty seconds of this opening
quarter we mentioned brought to you by a straight line
fence dribble right side Hadden working against the freshman Wayne
Kicks left side Bartel swings it around the horn in
the corner. Lee by Stewart just checked in. Now double
teamed and stripped. May now up ahead to.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
Mcgow and knocked away from behind by Hadden.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
You know, stay with Cadillac to our left. With eleven
point six seconds left. We mentioned brought to you by
a straight line fence residential commercial fencing project serving central,
Northern and West Michigan from the.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
Lake Shore de Lanting all the way up to Travers City.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
For you Cadillac fans, call today for your free estimate
at six point six three four four ninety one twenty nine. Well,
they feed the big man in sign McGowan. He just
elevant over everybody and got the deuce back to the
way Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Free get tick before the horn.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
That's a big one to end the court of little
momentum by Ethan alpha.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
Rank big three Coopersville, just what the doctor ordered. Still
a tough quarter, but they got.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
The momentum now going into the.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Second another fifty dollars for kids food basket with our
baskets for kid with alf rank before the buzzer. So
after one here at Cornerstone University, it's Cadillac twenty one
Coopersville thirteen. You'll listen to the LMCU high school basketball
game of the Week here on ninety six to one
the games.

Speaker 10 (30:33):

Speaker 1 (31:09):
Well, one of the things we talked about Tom Kendra
and our Chanius Family.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Stars free game show.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
Both teams like the three we're talking about that on
the phone today and we saw that a lot of
threes that opening quarter and a big one by alf
Rank there to get it back to single digit's twenty
one thirteen Cadillac after one.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Yeah, that's one very good sign for Coopersville. Three different
players have hit three pointers, Judah Bartel's and then obviously
Alfa Rank there right there at the end, and Nathan
d Wall also has a three pointer.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
So three different guys.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
If they can get hot from the outside, maybe they
can neutralize some of the size of Cadillac.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
Right now though, Cadillac to night Shuff there's a deflection.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
We were talking about quick hands of Dwall up ahead
Bartel's and he got fouled going to the rack, missed
the shot, hard foul by Eli Main. And one of
the things I want to throw out here right now,
I wrote this down to I just have not seen this.
So you look at their seven games. Nath Dwall has
twenty four deflections twenty three steals.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
He is the team leader.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
Then Brooks had twenty deflections nineteen steals, Joel Sandford nine
deflections twenty one steals. My point is they will come
at you for thirty two minutes like that. So just
when you think, oh, we've got it taken care of
and you relax, that's when they really pounce on you.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
That's a great point, Brett, because we talk so much
about the size in basketball, But how about the tenacity
of those three guys you mentioned them, Joel Sandford, Brooks
Hadding and Nathan do Wall sort of the gnats of
Coopersville against the giants of Cadillac.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Well and Pete talked about that in our pregame Sho
conversation that that's what we have to do. We have
to get extra possessions. And the guys who come off
the bench, I give credit. They have the same intensity
as the starters because they know they're going to get
their minutes. As Bartel splits the pair there seven point
games twenty and fourteen, and here you see the half
core trap.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Yeah, it looks like it's given the Vikes fits a
little bit, kind of throwing them off a little bit
on their half court game.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
Mayborly extended out winging the freshman on the right side.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
They feed mc gallu of the middle.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
He's a good answer around it out though, missus and
Coopersville does a good job getting the rebound. Hadding up
high to claim it down the left sideline with the dribble.
That's Levi Stewart over the Haddon, good looking a threet
it dial it up. Another triple Brooks had, and he's
their leading scorer, coming in at twelve points per game.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
The bench loves it, and so does the Cooperville students
section right behind us.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Here they be down to a four point game. They
travel well.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
They found him out for that Whitehall game to Miskigan
during the holidays twenty one seventeen, just under seven minutes
left to go first half, but Collen right elbow cut
off that time by Rotman, kicks out the corner, gets
it back, tries to go baseline, brills his way down,
muscle it up. No good job by Rotman holding his ground.
Rebound cleared by Heading. They want to push again. Stewart
up ahead the Bartels, the lone returning starter from a

(33:58):
year ago and that team that won twenty one games.
Hadden fakes nice dribble drive, strong move. Can't finish though
at the ram and the short jumper. Mccoward with the
rebound hands off to Eli Mayne. He'll bring it across
the timeline. High screen from McGowan left arm pass to
the left wing. Now McGowan has it, kicks opposite Gates,

(34:20):
bakes the three, pulls up fifteen airball again pastered by
Robin big Man's been active for the Broncos, flying down
the other way.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Oh Man, what an elbow by mate. He got away
with it that time against the wall. Yeah, it took
and shoved him there, no call. Couldn't believe that one.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Now the dribble drive almost travel gets it back out
to Hadden that with Stewart's haddn't spin.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Nice extra pass Rodman, yes, saying one. Oh what are
they gonna call?

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Oh wow, they got the bump on the drive on
the spin before.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Hadn't freed himself. Oh it's a We'll take the fowl.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
But disappointing there to have that bucket by Rottman taking.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Off the board.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Boy hadn't just makes things happen, doesn't he just like
he does on the grid iron.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Just an athlete he is.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
He's just a He's probably not gonna be playing college
basketball anywhere, but just a great high kind of guy
you love to have on your high school basketball team.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
By the way, Nate.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Roberts trying to check for three now for the left corner.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Dial it up, fifty dollars.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
More for kids' food basket with our baskets for kids.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Already five three pointers for the Broncos. And don't look now, Brett,
but they're only down by one point.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
And look at all this pressure just kind of bothering.
Cadillac double team now way too hot. With the pass
through the hands of Gavin Gates along the sideline of
Coopers Will gets it back. I like your analogy to
a past insects, annoying, whatever you want to call him.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
That's what Coopers Will is. And they do it for
thirty two minutes.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Yeah, and you're already seeing you know, we're we're only
not even three minutes into the second quarter. But you
can see Cadillac they look tired. You know, they haven't
played a game in almost two weeks. Wow, that's something
to remember.

Speaker 11 (36:03):
Hadden deep flat another one, Brooks hadden't from out of
this cu here at Cornerstone, and he gives Coopers to
the league almost another steal.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
There's that deflection, knocks in the bounds and right now
coach Benzenberg yelling to his team to make the extra pass.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
And calm down a little bit while Brooks Hadden is
in his zone. That is, there's not a better feeling
when you're a basketball player when you just feel you
just know what's going in. And he is on fire
and last.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Year's as sophomore, he was one of their go to
guys for that tournament team run as Bailey wade to
the left side, are round and out rebound cleared by
Rotman and a reaching foul gonna be called against the
freshman Dominic wing.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
The other thing a.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
Cadillac might not be used to is the aggressive nature
of Coopersville. They're not as big, but these guys rebound
for their size really well, and they know they have
to because they don't have, as you mentioned, the gay
van sickles to fall back on.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
That's right, Brody Rotman has been an absolute horse so
far in this game. Six five junior really the only
big guy that the Coopersville has, and he is coming
up real big.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
Had a nice job kicking the corner.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
Stewart fake the three dribble around this man and put
it up an end. Little runner on the beachline that time.
By Levi Stewart twenty five, twenty one Coopersville by four.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Wow, what are you run?

Speaker 2 (37:27):
We're seeing here?

Speaker 3 (37:28):
It was a twenty one to thirteen at the break
they score. It's a twelve to nothing run to open
this second quarter for the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
Just about to the halfway point, four to fifteen, a
ticking gates now dribble penetration, got to the free throw line,
dumped it but deflected out of bounds. It'll stay with
the Vikings to our left. Boy, coopers will just get
in a hand on everything. It's almost feels like they're
playing with six players out there.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
Unbelievable that twelve oh run two threes by hand and
won by alpha rink.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
Oh Bartel's got a deflection, but then a rein fowl
got a little too aggressive that time. But you know what,
coach Van Kemp, it will take that all day as
long as you don't fall out. He was trying to
get it away from Grant Williams. But you mentioned that
twelve will run to start this quarter. And you gotta
believe Coopersville, Tom With the teams they played, I mean,

(38:19):
they're not gonna be rattled, right. I mean they've played
a lot of good athletic teams, different styles, that we
talked about.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
So they've seen just about everything.

Speaker 3 (38:26):
Yeah, that's the theory, you know, coming from northern Michigan,
maybe Cadillac doesn't see as much quality basketball night in night.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
Out, gage down Lowe. I had a late whistle that time.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
I thought he got it clean against Grant Williams, but
they're gonna say got him on the arm going up.
So Williams will step to the charity stripe for a
couple maybe end this drought for the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
Wow, that was.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
That looked real like a really good block there. Maybe
maybe he did get just enough arm to get the
foul call.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
Third foul this half, I should say second against Coopersville, third.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Foul four.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
Cadillac on that last one, three point fifty six left
to go, first free throw, good, second one on the way.
And Grant Williams, you mentioned that big game their last
win against Potoski, hits him both. He comes out now
checking back in is the big fella six ' eight
Kyle McGowan, the senior post player.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Grant Williams hits a pair of free throws there again
that breaks a twelfth to nothing Coopersville run to open
the second quarter and getting get ahead in this game.

Speaker 2 (39:38):
Oh, nice job by the left as he went up
de Wall.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Got the ball, hit, kept his composure and ballanced and
somehow muscled that one into the pain.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
Good dribble penetration by to wall boy.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
They just surround with three guys anyone in the middle
of that two to three matchupson and Eli Maye. Nice
bounce pass trying to square up spins kick out sit
a nice job, but shot blocked by brooks Head and
just came flying out that time to knock it into
the stands against Potman.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Well, this is this zone is really giving Cadillac problems.
It's a it's it's not a passive zone at all.
It's a very aggressive zone.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Now you've even be careful man almost got it stripped
in and head. Look at the hustle my Stewart up
ahead the wall with the left handed finish up and in.
Oh what a turn of events for Coopersville. Here come
the Broncos with their biggest lead of night by six.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
Just again that relentless pressure.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
I don't know if the Cadillac's not used to it,
but they're certainly not handling it well right now.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
Brett Bailey Wade having to help out front the big fella.
Now they get it to Popman between the circles extended
out to wall. He's got those quick hands working on
the top with Stewart, but Bartel's and haddn't great guys
in the wings to close out, especially with their jumping ability.
McGowan down low got it stripped by hat, knocked out
and last touched.

Speaker 2 (40:59):
By the Viking. Now the official wants some help to see.
I think it's going the other way here. Yep.

Speaker 1 (41:14):
Coach Van Kevin cracking jokes there. He just likes the
effort right now, wind out with his broncos it will
be Vikings basketball gates to throw it way out top
near the half court line.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
Popfin triple drive, try to throw it.

Speaker 1 (41:26):
Back out and we have a travel called against Popman
back to the way and boy from being composed to
totally rattles what we've seen Cadillac here, and I told
you they just keep turning up and out and then
once there's blood in the water, they.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
Are like sharks. For Coopersville.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
Yeah, they haven't had a field goal since late in
the first quarter. This is a sixteen to two run
for Coopersville.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
The Wall working against the bigger McGowan gives it up.
Now here's Bartell's on the attack around his man can't
finish with the right hand Scoop battle for the rebound
mcgow and it's gonna go off, but count out of bounds.
Will stay with the Broncos too, are right. Here comes
the hockey change. Now, Levi Stewart out, Joel Sanford in.
And remember, Joel Sanford is not a guy you want

(42:10):
to leave alone. I know we've seen him dribble dry,
but he can really knock down the three if he
sets the puppies, and he doesn't need long.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
He's got a quick trigger.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
Martel's got it knocked away out of bounds on the
right sideline.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
It'll stay with the Broncos. Back in for the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (42:26):
Here comes Nate Roberts pot middle checkout to eighteen left
to go first half.

Speaker 3 (42:34):
You know, so impressive Brett Pete Van Campon in his
sixteenth year.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
This Cooper's Mille team.

Speaker 1 (42:39):
You look at him.

Speaker 3 (42:39):
They don't really pass the eye test. They don't look
like much. They're not physically imposing, but they play hard
and they play they can play all different styles.

Speaker 2 (42:47):
And I love how they buy it.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
There's Samford, Oh good quick, look at a three couldn
knock it out from left corner? Look at a battle
for the rebound to wallock quitting he got grabbed, No
call McGowan.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
Loose and Eli Main takes it out. Now Kate's up ahead.
They've got numbers three on two.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
But now but on the backside Samford and knocking away.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
Good hustle to get back by the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
Right now we're seeing Cadillac trying to play Coopersville style
and they can't do it.

Speaker 2 (43:13):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (43:13):
The Bronco's loving it right now, loving this pace of
game in the style a game gates.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
Simboun's already throwing basket, trying to get to Wade in
the corner. Knocked out and Samford knocked it off away.
It'll go back to Coopersville. Don't we get to stay
with us for the halftime show?

Speaker 9 (43:27):
Coming up?

Speaker 2 (43:27):
Brought to you by Hold Jepson, Physical Therapy Scores.

Speaker 1 (43:29):
And more, including that big Notre Dame Georgia game down
the Sugar Bowl.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
Joel have it coming up in the studio.

Speaker 1 (43:36):
Kickout the southbaw airballs, the three to wall battle for
the rebound and knocked out last touched by Cadillac. Well
you don't see that very often. You complete airball. Didn't
get any rim that time. Dwall had a pretty good look.
Yeah he did. That was a and he's been hot.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
He's it has the last of four points for Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (43:56):
Off the mark on that one. Hadden't resets the offense
fe the rings. Drible drive left side, good defense. Oh,
nice job faking he was going back to the middle.

Speaker 1 (44:04):
That went baseline quickly beat his man up and in
Brooks Hadden.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
What a night for Hadden.

Speaker 3 (44:10):
I mean defensively what he's done, but hitting those big
threes and then drive into the basket.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
A beautiful move for the bucket. Good dribble, change the
direction that time.

Speaker 1 (44:19):
I hadn't only a junior, folks, say, bet in the
middle of the wade, right elbow. Now the gates baseline
cut off. Here comes a double team to McGowan. Try
to muscle his way off off the window. No, get
his own rebound, bounce, dribble, No McGowan again, man among boys.

Speaker 2 (44:33):
In there and finally gets fouled.

Speaker 1 (44:36):
Cal McCowan working hard and needs to against Coopersville with
the effort.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
Wow, he is working hard, but he has gassed out there.
He's had to run up and down the court and
trying to put an end again to what is now
in eighteen to two run here in the second quarter
for Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (44:53):
You can tell Cadillac with their size and why not.
I mean, they're not afraid to run, but obviously they.

Speaker 1 (44:59):
Want to go half court, game pounded in, kick it
back out if they need to. But feed McGowan, feed
guys like Bailey Wade and Coopersville totally turned the tables
from quarter number one to quarter number.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
Two on them.

Speaker 3 (45:10):
Yeah, they're not letting them get comfortable and set up
in their half court offense.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
McCowan lane violation on the second one. He missed it.

Speaker 1 (45:21):
After getting the first and it has not been much
for Cadillac here.

Speaker 2 (45:27):
You mentioned twenty one.

Speaker 1 (45:28):
To thirteen at the quarter and we're sitting thirty one
to twenty three Coopersville with just order a minute ago
before the first half.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
Yeah, just an unbelievable turn of events. Cadillac was feeling
pretty good after that first quarter. Not so much anymore.

Speaker 1 (45:43):
McGowan did get the second one to go after the
lane violation. The wall has it now and he here
coach Van kempin to our left. Who wants one shot here?
Final forty seconds heading drible penetration leaves it for the
wall to wall across the lane out of Sanford, little
Michigan state weave. Sanford almost lost it in the paint.
Now got to kick it out. Haddn't backing his man

(46:05):
down left side, rotman left wing against Wade. Couldn't match
up there now Sanford. Final twenty seconds. Sanford got all
the way to the right elp or should say right box,
but couldn't finish it, and now hadn't got it stripped.
Here's Gates up ahead the Maine left wing in the
front court.

Speaker 2 (46:25):
Back out to Roberts.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
They swinging around the horn.

Speaker 2 (46:30):
Three seconds, two seconds, got a fire at Gates. McGowan
beat the buzzer.

Speaker 1 (46:34):
Oh beautiful job that time by Gavin Gates to beat
the double team with a dribble bounce past down Lowe.

Speaker 2 (46:41):
McGowan just beat.

Speaker 1 (46:42):
The horn for a big bucket for Cadillac.

Speaker 3 (46:45):
Yeah, Cadillac with a little little momentum going into the half.
But what a quarter for Coopersville eighteen to five. They
outscore Cadillac in that second quarter to take charge of
this game.

Speaker 2 (46:59):
Very impressive.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
So at the end of the first half, as both
teams head of their respective locker rooms, it's Coopersville thirty

Speaker 3 (55:16):
Yeah, not a great year for the SEC. You know,
the big bad SEC. They're not getting it done. I'm
loving it. I love Big ten football and Notre Dame.
You know, I almost count them almost like a Big
ten team. You're right, this guy got a real Midwest
flavor and it should be interesting.

Speaker 2 (55:32):
Well.

Speaker 1 (55:32):

update is what a turn of events. Cadillac let it
after twenty one to thirteen, then eighteen to five run
as Tom metch the second quarter, Coop leads it by
five at the break thirty one to twenty six, and
Tom Kendra has our individual scoring summary from that first half.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
It's brought to by MKD Feuderholmes. Yeah, Brett.

Speaker 3 (56:10):
Well, the first thing that jumps out at me is
I look at the scoring. Seven different coopers Bill Broncos
have scored in this game. Just four players have scored
for Cadillac. Eli Main the six to two guard. He
leads Cadillac with ten points. He's their lone player in
double figures. Grant Williams and Kyle McGowan each have seven points,
Bailey Wade has two, and then for Coopersville, like I mentioned,

(56:33):
seven players scored. No one has been better than the
junior Brooks had and three three pointers. He's got a
game high eleven points at the break.

Speaker 2 (56:44):
Just a terrific first half.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
That's he had three of the five three pointers for Coopersville,
the other two one by Ethan Alfarink, the other by
Nathan Dowall. So in addition to Hadden with eleven, we
got Nathan Dowall with seven. Judah Bartel's they're normally they're
score He's been held to just four points so far.
They get him going. Watch out Ethan Lbrink with three

(57:06):
and Joel Sandford, Levi Stewart and Brody Rotman all with two.

Speaker 2 (57:10):
As your MKD.

Speaker 1 (57:11):

room adjustments in the second half, brought to you by
Bandelot Homes. Prove it with Tom.

Speaker 2 (57:27):
After we get a break here.

Speaker 1 (57:29):
As we start action, cubers Wiel moving right to left
on your radar. Down Man a man pressure defense by
the Vikings Bartels. As you mentioned, trying to get going.
Strong dribble drive, but again rolls off the front of
the rim.

Speaker 2 (57:38):
Just couldn't finish. Yeah, just couldn't get in the role
that time.

Speaker 3 (57:41):
A nice job using his body leaning in, did everything
but make the bucket.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
We'll reset your sporting you.

Speaker 1 (57:47):
Second half starting lineups Maine with the basketball in the
front court for the Vikings in there with Gates. Nice
pass to a cut him a goow and it couldn't
finish on the right block, rebound tapped out of it.

Speaker 2 (57:56):
Here comes Bartels, lobs it up to the wall to wall.

Speaker 1 (57:59):
Strong to the hoop up, no way too strong tap
by Maine to Gates. Two big fellas want to run
Gates in the front court, goes to left wing, downloading
the block. McGowan kickout Wade, extra pass over to Gates.
It's kind of what we saw in the opening quarter.
Nice job Wade to McGowan. Couldn't finish on the up
and under battle for the rebound tipped out last touch

(58:19):
by Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
So it's Bartel's in there.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
Carter Mechis, who had his hands on that last one,
couldn't corral it. Sanford haddn't and they don't go with
Rotman again, it's Dewall who will start like they did
to start the ballgame, and now reaching foul by the
wall against the big fellow Vikings counter with Bailey Wade,
Gavin Gates, Kyle McGowan, Grant Williams, and Eli Maine their

(58:43):
original starting lineup for coach Benzenberg. Thirty one to twenty six,
Coopersville by five. We played a minute here in the
third quarter. Second half starting lamps brought to you by
supporting you check out their inventory online and.

Speaker 2 (58:59):
Sporting the dot com between the rings.

Speaker 1 (59:03):
Now with the basketball a little more deliberate with this
half court. Look that's Wayam swings at left side McGowan.
Now they feed the middle free throw line, bounce pass
in traffic and McGowan off the feet. Gavin Gates is
a pretty good passing big man.

Speaker 2 (59:17):
He noticed that in the middle there, Tom Yeah, he
does a nice job.

Speaker 9 (59:20):
You know.

Speaker 3 (59:20):
The biggest impression I had from that first half Red
is just, oh.

Speaker 2 (59:24):
Look at that right.

Speaker 1 (59:27):
Another three.

Speaker 3 (59:28):
Well, you don't have time to make a point here.
They just come back and score right away. But contrasting styles,
you know, Cadillac big men are great, their guards are
not very good and that's why the pressure of Coopersville
has just been killing them. Meanwhile, Coopersville guard play has
been outstanding, led by that man Brooks had.

Speaker 1 (59:47):
And four threes now for Hadden and that one deep
on the left wing. What the ball going through the
basket allows teams like Coopersville do too is set up
what they want to do defensively. As far as full
court pressure near steel that time by Samford McGowan, now
just like a bullet of china shop plowing his way in.
Might have got away with a travel there, but leaned

(01:00:08):
in and got the contact. And that's gonna go against
Coopersville's number five Carter Mechis.

Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
He sure did get away with the travel and Pete
Van Kempen wanted that call, didn't get it. But you know,
when you look at this, it's gonna come down to
style of play. I think this fast pace of play
benefits Coopersville. If it turns into just a half court game,
really gonna benefit Cadillac.

Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
McCowan had the first one roll off the front of
the rim of the left side and out thirty four
to twenty eighth.

Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
The lead is six. A bed of the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
We certainly saw the pressure in the tempo effect Cadillac
in that second quarter of the first half, they just
look like the tired team out there. McGowan hits the second,
splits the pair. They feed it to Mechas pushed off
the block by Bailey Wade left side, trying to back
his way down.

Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
Nice spin, moves around trumper, elevate's over him and knocks
it down. How about the senior Carter mechis Oh.

Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
That was a great beautiful move there, like you said,
elevated up high where he had to get the shot
over McGowan. Nothing but net.

Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
I love all the contributions the Coopersville Broncos are getting.
He mentioned what seven different players scored in that first half.

Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
That's right, seven players as opposed to just four players
scored for Cadillac.

Speaker 2 (01:01:16):
Grant Williams straight away.

Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
To wall, the quick hands digs it out and didn't
travel up ahead. The Bartell's attacking the rip puts it up, Yes,
and a foul getting his hand in the cookie jar
was Gavin Gates and Bartels.

Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
Maybe that will get him going. Their leading scorer coming in.

Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
You're right, Brett. They had a five point halftime lead
and that was with a very quiet half for Judah
Bartell's nothing quiet about that. A power power drive to
the basket, went up strong, got the layup and the one.

Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
Well, his new home is going to be right here
at Mulloreena Kim Elders loves this kid. He's gonna be
a future Golden Eagle. And he converted the old traditional
three point play by knocking down the free throw. And
the lead is ten thirty nine to twenty nine. Order
court pressure by the Broncos Vikings breaking, but now is
steal the wall, stepping up ahead Stamford ahead of the pack,

(01:02:07):
lays it up and in wow, how about that transition,
I'm telling you when they steal it and then break
out easy buckets for Coopersville.

Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
This is exactly the style will play that Coopersville wants,
not allowing the Vikings to get into their half court offense.

Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Remember it's a five to one Cadillac team coming in.

Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
Mayn kicks it over the corner, Williams short of the
three rebound though Gavin.

Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
Gates, this guy does a little bit everything.

Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
Finds Bailey Wade open up the baseline and puts it
up an end on the left side.

Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
Good look, my Gavin Gates. Yeah, you mentioned he was
a good passer. That was a beautiful, beautiful look there
for an easy.

Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
Lay in for Wade.

Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
They get in the interior, it's tough to defend them
with the size the Cadillac can throw at you. Bartel's
now right wing troble penetration leaves it for Hadden. Hadden
spins in the lane, frees himself. No left it short
rebound Bailey Wade. Good work by the big man that
time on the defensive glass under already the halfway point

(01:03:06):
of a third quarter, fast moving game forty one thirty
one coop by ten. Here comes the line change for
coach van Keppin right in front of us. Wade kick
out to Maine had a good opening quarter shooting the
basketball have been kind of quiet since then. And now McGowan, boy,
I don't know what.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
Better way to describe it. Then he's just like a bowl,
plowed his way through and drawn contact. That's right.

Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
And that time Coach Van Kempen wasn't too happy. He
thought who made who followed him? He's the one who
initiated the contact.

Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
While we have a stop at years, mcgowann goes to
the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
Tom what do you think both coaches were stressing in
the locker room as far as second half adjustments there?

Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
Yeah, I think without question coach Van Kempen is saying,
we're gonna keep pressuring them. We're gonna keep using a
lot of players, and I want one hundred percent effort
every time you're out there because we're wearing them down. Meanwhile,
you know, for Cadillac coach uh Ryan ben Zeenberg, he's
telling them settle down, that's getting to the half court game,

(01:04:08):
make them defend us. They are not big enough to
handle our side. So again, I think it's gonna come
down to style of play here in the fourth when
the fourth quarter comes around, padding strong.

Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
Move, kind of a little push off there, spins the
other way, frees himself and goes up and puts that
one in.

Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
Boy tough to defend him with his moves.

Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
He's crafty with the dribble, good with his elevation to
athleticism and the spin moves.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
He just saw their and he's just a junior.

Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
By the way, McGowan got one of two on that
last trip to the Charity Stripe Battle of the rebound
on the misattempt. It's gonna be off of Gates to
mean Coopersville basketball. That's the other thing I think that
effects Cadillac that we're seeing is they're not necessarily a
great free throw shooting team, but little fatigue when they
get to the cherity strike because of the pace. They're
not knocking down their free throws to help their cause.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
No, not at all.

Speaker 3 (01:04:57):
And that's a and you're right, they're a little bit
tired there all of a sudden, that free throw, it's
just rimming off when normally it would be going in.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Levi Stewart of the game.

Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
Now for coach Van Camp and Bartel's around his man
but too strong in the left hand.

Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
Try to finish with the up and under against Gates.

Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
Mcgat with the rebound, quick outlet to Gates in the
front court, brings it himself, skips it over the right
corner to Maine. Maine cut off nicely by Bartel's a
feed McGowan right elbow looking for the double team comes late,
left it short, fouls his own shot, puts it up.
No battle for the rebound and last touch by Rotman
of Coopersville. It'll stay with the vikings to our rights.

Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
Wow, great work that time by Kyle McGowan the six
to eighth center for Cadillac, but nothing to show for it.

Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
He is, he's got his hands on his steps. He
is a tired.

Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
Boy, just like we saw in the first half where
they got closer to that second quarter of the half,
little bit winded. Nice job there, Mcow with the extra
fastest beat. His man took it strong to the rim
and a nice finished for the six to eight power forward.

Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
Stuart swings it around the horn.

Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
Bartels watch by now a little two three matchup zone
for Cadillac. They're trying to give Coopersville a little of
their own medicine.

Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
As Bartel's way off.

Speaker 1 (01:06:08):
The mark of the three ball rotten with a rebound
and reaching fowls gonna be called? Is it Wade or Maine?

Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
Know they're gonna get Eli Maine with the fowl.

Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
You know why I think Cadillac's doing this a little
bit too, is to try to get their win back
a little bit defensively, Oh.

Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
No question about it. They're they're very tired. They easier
to sit back in that two to three a little
bit and pressed up to wall.

Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
Tried to pump big Mcow, but there's too much size
there had to kick it back out to Bartel's a
reach set between the circles. Here's had and working against
Maine's got the athletics as a matchup on and now Bartel's.

Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Good look at a three and knocks it down.

Speaker 1 (01:06:43):
That one was from behind the college line. Another three,
ringing up at another fifty dollars with baskets for kids
for kids' food basket.

Speaker 3 (01:06:51):
Yet Judah Bartel's, he wasn't happy he met He missed
a three badly before that. He wanted another chance, and
he took advantage of it. That's seven three or wait
a minute, how many threes do they have?

Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Is that six or seven? That's seven because remember I
hadn't with the one to start to.

Speaker 23 (01:07:06):
Have seven threes for Coopersville Away Elite is a dozen
Tom forty six thirty four, one thirty two left to go.

Speaker 2 (01:07:18):
The leading by a dozen.

Speaker 3 (01:07:19):
You don't need to you don't need to be too
quick now, although you still want to keep playing that style.
It's kind of a tough balancing act.

Speaker 1 (01:07:27):
Hadn't almost had a steal, old boy, there was a
travel not called against Nate Roberts got it, caught his
hit because hadn't got his hand.

Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
In there by the way into the lineup.

Speaker 1 (01:07:37):
Zach Stewart for Coopersville out top McCowan way off on
the three short armed it.

Speaker 2 (01:07:42):
He thought he got hit.

Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
No, Pall, that's not his shot Bret at all. Well
you let him shoot that all day.

Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
I'm just gonna say, Coopersville be content with that.

Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
Bartel's with the dribble drive left side, cut off again
by Gates, swings it right side.

Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
Now they get it back to Bartell's left wing.

Speaker 1 (01:07:59):
The big man Rotman try to back his way down
against Bailey Wade.

Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Good defense by Bailey.

Speaker 1 (01:08:04):
Now Bartel's got a half step and finish his right
hand the rim down the right side of the lane.
Boy Judo, Bartel's with a quick first step and now
bodies hit the deck out front, and we're gonna have
a reach in foul against Sack Stuart, the junior.

Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
Guard for Coopersville.

Speaker 1 (01:08:23):
His first team's fourth on the board to just two
team fouls this half for Cadillac.

Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
Coopersville is aggressive.

Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
They've played done a good job of not putting Cadillac
in the bonus, though not picking up a lot of
fouls team wise.

Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
Ever since the second quarter on they played almost flawless.

Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
Gavin Gates try to back his way down. Rotman holding
his ground, makes a miss on the turnaround jumper. Gates
drives to save it does to Maine. Good job by
the Vikings, almost to travel again by Nate Roberts, out
top gets it back to Eli Maine.

Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
Final ten seconds of the third quarter forty eight thirty four.

Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
Broncos mcgowand stepped through strong yes and a foul with
just under.

Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
Four seconds left to go in the quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:09:11):
I tell you what, they might have to ride that
big horse Kyle McGowan to try to get a victory
here for Cadillac, because he's been there, go to you
guy the second.

Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Half, he sure has.

Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
They needed that bucket there desperately. This game has starting
to get away from him. You know, Cadillac had a
nice end to the second quarter, and here maybe they'll
get a three point play here to end the third quarter.
Give him a fighting chance going into the.

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Fourth flat out of the free throw temps short rebound
Coopersville final second lets it fly from half court o
Zach Stewart. They wanted that one, but Coopersville has been
on iron since the end of the first quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
They leaded by twelve.

Speaker 1 (01:09:47):
As we head to the final eight minutes Coopersville forty
eight Cadillac thirty six. You're listening to a Thursday that
edition of the NFC High School Basketball Game of the

in for Kids Food Basket, our official nonprofit for the

Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
Broadcast, that's fifty dollars donated by LMCU to Kids Food Basket.
Vikings down at dusk, try to get it to Bailey
Wade off his knee, No to wall, back to the
way and going to be called for the carry that time,
got it caught on the hip a little bit. It'll
be Broncos basketball. Top your thoughts as we going to
the final eight minutes. Here, what a run by coopers
wilsonce the end of that first quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
No question about it. You know, that was my feeling.
At the end of the first half. Coopersville was ahead
by five points and their star player Junof Bartel's only
had four points at halftime. I've said, what if he
comes alive? He did in that third quarter eight points
for Judo Bartels and all of a sudden, Coopersville is
up by twelve.

Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:12:10):
One of their biggest leads of the night is McGowan
the step through and a hop and couldn't finish for
the big fellow from about six feet rebound.

Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
Coopersville had a hand in his face though.

Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
Good defense, the Broncos constantly challenging Coops who are winning
that third quarter, by the way, seventeen ten. Now mcgow
of the block that time against Samford, who's trying to
just throw one up there on the runner. McGowan in
the front court now knocked away from behind. There's that
pesky Broncos defense to Wall and he digs it out.
We mentioned Nate to Wall, the leading steeler on the team,

(01:12:39):
twenty three steals in seven games coming in.

Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
And he's having a great game tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
He's an leading candidate for the defensive Player of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
He's been all over the place.

Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
It's coming up in our discount door postgame show. Haddn't
on the Chibblet penetration. Now Samford a little two man
game with Rotman out top out to the wall.

Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
They swing it ball but by the Broncos left side.

Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
Bartels to Sanford back out the head and thought about
a D three. Wants to take the runner. Oh had
a step but couldn't finish. Just fell off the rim,
off the window. Working against Nate Roberts and now Whistle
on the rebound attempt. And I think they're gonna get
Rottman trying to crash the offensive glass for Coopersville.

Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
It'll be interesting, Brett to see what Pete van Kempen
chooses to do a twelve point lead. You know they've
done it with that fast paced style, but when now
that you're up by twelve, do you consider not going
so fast, trying to use some of the clock more uh.
Sometimes you do that at backfires, so right, we'll be uh,
I'll be curious to see how they proceed.

Speaker 1 (01:13:46):
Here in the final six minutes, Gavin Gates trying to
feed it to McGowan knocked away again the quick hands
of Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
Here's the wall he picked up that steal, kicks.

Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
Right side, knocking it down at Samford. We've been waiting
for him to get going. He's another guy who can
fill it up in Joel Sanford.

Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
That's right, that's another guy to hit a three pointer here.
That's eight three pointers from four different players.

Speaker 1 (01:14:11):
Biggest lea the night for the Broncos, two by fifteen
down low McGowan, yes, and one just too strong for
Brooks had He is a horse, folks, at six '
eight and thick. He's got a tight end body out there,
even though Coopersville has been wearing on him. But I
give credit Cale McGowan. He realizes he's got to be
the go to guy.

Speaker 3 (01:14:29):
For the Vikings, no question, he's been a workhorse for him.
But yeah, they're just putting so much pressure on him
every time, making him work for everything that he's gotten.

Speaker 1 (01:14:41):
Try to convert the old fashioned and one as the
bucket is good, fifty one thirty eight in and out,
good looking rotation on it, but a little flat of
that free throw attempt.

Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
Rotman comes out with a rebound.

Speaker 1 (01:14:52):
Hey, we'll have our wing goosey fan of the game
coming up here. You can set your redouns right now
if you want to. We'll give you that phone number.
Then wait for the Q to call it six six, four, five,
four thirty seven seventy six. If you've won this basketball season,
you're not eligible.

Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
D Wall trying to free.

Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
Himself against the taller mcgow it leaveshim for Martell's goes
up strip by Maine thought he got it clean. Reach
in foul, gonna be called against Eli Maine, the senior
guard for the Vikings, and that'll put Coopersville on the bonus.
In Bartel's to the line. Let's do it right now.
Why we have an opportunity. We'll take caller seven. Now

(01:15:29):
they're gonna say not a shooting situation. Toutch Van kempe
With said he was going up. They're staying on the ground,
So it'll be coopers Wille the inbounds. So caller seven
right now of the studios. Joe aern Is standing by six, one, six, four, five, four,
thirty seven, seventy six. He'll be to night's wing Doozy
Fan of the Game and scored twenty five dollars gift
card to have some of the best wings not only

(01:15:50):
in Grand Rapids, but in the Midwest. It's caller seven
for our wing Doozy fan of the game. Will announce
who you are and where you're listening from, coming up
in our discount door post games to wall and now
a little confusing Coach Van Camp in good time out there,
we'll see if it's a thirty or a full. It's
gonna be a thirty, so we'll keep it right here.
Tom fifty one, thirty eight. The lead is thirteen. And

(01:16:12):
I want to go back to a point that you
were talking about. Tom five oh three left to go here.
Cooper's will a pretty good free throw shooting team. But
like you said, what do you do with pace here?
For your coach Van Camp? But what are you talking
to your team about in the huddle?

Speaker 3 (01:16:25):
I think you're telling him to be patient. I mean,
I think that's why he called that time out. He
saw that a little bit of panic maybe from the
guards up up and he said wait a minute. We're
in great shape in this game. We just need to
take care of the ball. I expect to see Judah
Bartel's handling the ball quite a bit more in the
final five minutes. Yeah, and I see him going to
the line quite a bit. They feel very comfortable with

(01:16:47):
him and hopefully seal this win.

Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
Dope, we're get to stick around of the individual scoring
summary brought to you by MKD Funeral Holmes. Also our
Uptown chiefs Gate offensive player the game. Tom will announce
that I'll have our our Montel Construction Defensive Player of
the game. It's all coming up the discount door postgame
show hoop to talk to the winning coach as well
once this one goes final fifty one thirty eight Coopersville

(01:17:10):
by thirteen over Cadillac.

Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Penetration by Samford. Oh he got it to Rotman.

Speaker 1 (01:17:14):
Beautiful Mounts pass, but the big fella just couldn't control
it going up against mcgow it losing out of bounds.
Cadillac gets it back so they force a turnover. Good
play by Stamford. They just couldn't execute it at the end.
With the big fellow Rotman into the ballgame. Now for
the Vikings Clayton popmin senior guard to Maine feed gates,

(01:17:36):
turn around jumpery was opening, knocks it down and now
coach Benzenberg gonna take a quick time out. Oh they
put that score on the wrong side. Should be fifty
one fifty yep, they got this morning.

Speaker 2 (01:17:59):
Hang out one second here a.

Speaker 1 (01:18:02):
Scaring log should be.

Speaker 2 (01:18:07):
I'm sorry I had to jump in there.

Speaker 1 (01:18:09):
You saw the same thing I did, because I'm like,
wait a minute, it didn't go back to fifteen. They'll
get it squared away.

Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
Great job by Brett Pakita there doing doing his part
for the Cornerstone Tournament.

Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
Here, well, I tell you what the Cadillac scoring man
came over to. They'll get it squared away. Easy to
do it. I go back to it's a funny story.
So I grew up a high school guy, just like
you did. High school fans all the way through. Then
we worked in the media. But my dad was one
of those at Rockford High that worked the clock, and
he said.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
It was always just a constant.

Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
He liked it because it kept him from being like
a fan and going crazy and everything. But he said,
you catch yourself every once in a while. With obviously
putting the wrong score up or not starting the clock.
Remember the old timer. Because you're caught up in the game,
watch it too much, so it could easily happen. And
I tell you what if you don't think so, just
go down and do it yourself.

Speaker 3 (01:19:01):
Sometimes that's probably where you learned how to be objective. Yeah,
it's from your dad. A great story there, Brett.

Speaker 1 (01:19:08):
Try to be anyways, Brooks had Now they try to
get the double team, trying to trap his Cadillac in
the half court where they can, but tough to do
against the quick ball handling of Coopersville with all their guards.
Had now hopstep in the lane, got a good look,
No look at Robin at the offensive last.

Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
Just took it away from McGowan, put it up with him.
Big bucket by Brody Rotman.

Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
Wow, that is huge by Rotman. I was gonna say
he's been out there as much as anybody, and he
this Coopersville team is in great condition because they are
running circles around the vikings.

Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
McGowan, nice spin, moving the lade.

Speaker 1 (01:19:43):
Oh, I want to finish by the big man with
a left hand against Rockman, He's gotta be the guy
down the stretch for Cadillac cuts it back to eleven fifty.

Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
Three forty two.

Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
Coopersville's got to take care of the basketball, that's what
you're talking about. Bartels to Rodman. Oh, but he missed
the buddy down low against McGowan.

Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
Rebound gates and that time he is in between going
off the back border straight in.

Speaker 1 (01:20:03):
It went made with a quick three, No left his
short rebound. Samford on the long carem.

Speaker 2 (01:20:10):
You're right.

Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
The w had a good look and a great feed
by Bartels Now had an offensive foul used that off arm.

Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
Coach Van Kempen not happy with his club.

Speaker 1 (01:20:19):
And it's just like what you talked about, no need
to speed up right here, and that's why he's getting on.

Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
Brooks had a little bit. You don't need to go
a full court game, that's right.

Speaker 3 (01:20:28):
And we saw them on that last possession kind of
pulling it out almost into a four corners type look.
But then yeah, shooting too quickly.

Speaker 1 (01:20:36):
Oh, McGowan down low, point blank, Popmin tried to go
up and under just left it way short, never got
up over the rim, easy rebound for Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (01:20:45):
But there's McGowan two.

Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
We forget about another example of good passing big man
for Cadillac. He drew the double team, got a good
look for his squad, they just couldn't convert.

Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
Yeah, he's an impressive player. Again, the deficiency of this
Cadillac team is in the back court and that's probably
gonna hold him back this year.

Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
Samford working against Gates, try to wrap around and got
caught that time slap on the arm stops the clock
with two fifty one left to go.

Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
Not in the bonus yet for Coopersville. Only only two
team fouls for Cadillacs.

Speaker 3 (01:21:21):
So it's gonna be a while before they coopers who
will be going to the free throw line automatically on
fouls Levi.

Speaker 2 (01:21:27):
Stewart they bring into the game extra ball handler.

Speaker 1 (01:21:29):
Bartel's now trapped out near the timeline, need some help
working against Gates and McGowan try to step through it,
and what do they have think they're gonna have Kyle
McGowan with a block, got him with the hips. So
Cadillac racking up some foles here. I don't think they're
right on those foul CONTs. I haven't seen that change

(01:21:49):
for the teams.

Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
It's gotta be more than that. I just I just
looked up there, but.

Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
There they go.

Speaker 3 (01:21:53):
They just got the third one up there, so yeah,
but not a whole lot more. There hasn't been a
lot of whistles fast games three forty two.

Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
Bartell's got a hurry close to a five second call.

Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
Oh yep, oh he's.

Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
Too and they get it over and back violation.

Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
That was a tough one because hadn't you can go
back and get it in the back court, but it
was a matter of whether he touched the ball or
had it in the front court then went in.

Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
The back court.

Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
That's right, And that's a that was very close there,
right in the middle of the right in the middle
of the court there, and uh, it's gonna go against Coopersville.

Speaker 1 (01:22:36):
And that's what the official is explaining to coach Van
Keppen is he's saying he had it then he went
to the back court, which coach Van Kempin is saying
he can go in the back court, which is right
by rule. But it's a matter of where he made
the contact and caught it. So it was a bang
bang play. It was tough to call either way. There's
a question about it.

Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
That one goes against Coopersville, but coopers know's Okay, here
they're up eleven points two minutes thirty nine to go. Really,
if they take care of the ball and if they
go to the free throw line knock them down, they
could score a huge win here. This would be a
big win because Cadillac this is a great program. Yeah,
they've been to the state quarterfinals twice in the last

(01:23:17):
three years. They had a great season last year twenty
two and twenty three and three. Last year they got
seven seniors on this team. So as coopers was able
to close this out, this is a big win.

Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
Absolutely. Don't forget Kent City and Greenville coming up next
after this one.

Speaker 1 (01:23:36):
Then on Saturday to wrap up with the showcase here
with the High School Hoops Holiday Tournament, it will be
Kent Say against Coopersville seven o'clock tip in Cadillac in
Greenville will be the late game of eight to thirty
on Saturday night here at Cornerstone smul Areito fifty three
forty two.

Speaker 2 (01:23:50):
Coopersville tried to close this one out.

Speaker 1 (01:23:52):
Eli made with a runner down the left side lane
from twelve gets it in a quick time out by
the Vikings. We'll see if it's a full or thirty.
It is a full timeout, so we'll take it as well.
It's a nine point game. Don't touch that radio now,

And don't forget about the Lions it game this Sunday
night against the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
Yeah, we're at a basketball game here, but there's a
lot of football excitement going on.

Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
You mentioned in the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (01:25:26):
Three Midwest teams in the semi finals and the playoffs
and the Lions.

Speaker 1 (01:25:30):
What a season, oh man, hard to believe two fourteen
to two teams comes down to final week of the
regular season to decide it all. Bartels breaks the pressure.
Cadillac comes out with a little full court pressure after
the time out back in there by the way is
Carter mechis extra big man to rebound for Coopersville. Here's

(01:25:51):
Hadden drewel penetration through defenders, got down near the lane,
but then kicks it back out. Remember no shot clock
in high school basketball, so taking some time.

Speaker 3 (01:25:59):
Here, Yeah, they're taking some valuable time. Brett with a
nine point lead. That clock is just chicking away. Cadillac
is going to have.

Speaker 2 (01:26:06):
To foul here. They're trying to fol.

Speaker 1 (01:26:53):
Coopersville trying to get their fourth win of the season
and get to the five hundred mark to be a
big one. As Tom mentioned against Cadillac, just one loss
coming in for the Vikings up nine fifty three, forty four,
McGowan down low trying to muscle up again. No off
the back rim and oh Man. After the rebound, a
tough travel called against brooks Aden, giving it back to
the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
Yeah, that's you know, they had a turnover here. Coopersville
dead on that last possession. But even though they had
a turnover, they used about forty five seconds off of
the clock.

Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
And that's really the biggest thing.

Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
McGowan stepping out big Fellow for a three, not his game,
No left his short gets it back house game, pop
and under and a quick timeout off to feed that time.
On the rebound from Grant Williams, Vikings not dead yet
fifty three forty six with fifty two point eight seconds left,
full timeout. We'll keep it here and remind you coming

So we wish the Knightzel family well. But in three games,

it's been three different color analysts, but all the guys
from our crew that you enjoy every Friday night ur
in high school fotball season. I'm so glad Tom Kendra,
it's our first game for you and I working together.
But I did one with Buck Gino and also Jason Hutton,
and it's a lot of fun because I know you
guys all love high school basketball as much as you
do high school football.

Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
No question about it.

Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
And for me it's a privileged to following the footsteps.
And Drew Knitzell one of my all time favorite spartans.

Speaker 2 (01:28:53):
Oh yeah, him and.

Speaker 3 (01:28:54):
Scottie Skiles one in one A. But I may not
know the game like Drew Knitszel. I love it, and
I love the holiday basketball as well.

Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
I've done a great job tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:29:04):
Appreciate it, Tom, and I'm just glad we've dialed up
a good one for you.

Speaker 2 (01:29:09):
Coopersville trying to close this thing out.

Speaker 1 (01:29:11):
Fifty three forty six, good crowd on handing here for
the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
They beat the pressure in the front court.

Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
To hadd and now down low MA guess with a
two headed slam.

Speaker 2 (01:29:19):
How about the exclamation point there for the big man.

Speaker 3 (01:29:22):
Wow, beautiful job breaking that pressure by Coopersville.

Speaker 1 (01:29:26):
Now gates back to the way runners up and good
by the big fella. Another quick time out by coach Benzenberg.
Fifty five forty eight. Still a three possession game with
thirty three pointy eight seconds left and coming up. In
our discount door postgame show, we'll select tonight's uptown cheapskate
player of the game, give you the stats for them.

(01:29:48):
Tom Kendra gets that responsibility. I'll select our Montel Construction
defensive player of the game. And don't forget for everything

we do for the football season. You can check it

Don Patton in the house of course, who puts that together.
It's all right there to follow high school basketball girls
and boys all season long with the Trinity Health Michigan
High School Basketball page. And right now, what do you
think coach Van Kempen is saying to his team. I
know they want to take some clock if they can,
and obviously knock down their free throw Get the ball
the hands of your good free throw shooters.

Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
Right, that's right.

Speaker 3 (01:30:34):
And I heard him say he was very happy with
that last press break. It was textbook leading to leading
to the dunk by Carter Mechis and that broke It
was a six to nothing scoring run for Cadillac. That
broke it and should be enough to get Coopersville to
win here seven point lead.

Speaker 2 (01:30:52):
They just need to be smart if you just tune
it in late because normally we're not on a Thursday night.

Speaker 1 (01:30:56):
This is a five and one Cadillac team coming in
against the three and four team who's played a tough
schedule in Coopersville.

Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
When he looked at.

Speaker 1 (01:31:04):
The likes of Whitehall and Granville and some of the
teams they face, they get it in.

Speaker 2 (01:31:07):
By the way, nice job to Sanford, good free throw shooter.

Speaker 1 (01:31:12):
They've got to burn some more files, though, does Cadillac
before they can even get the Broncos in a shooting situation.
Good news for Cadillac. That tooker point four seconds, I
mean literally fouled them as the ball came in. Fifty
five forty eighth Elite is seven Bartel's to trigger the mbounds,

(01:31:34):
gets into hadden Fick file by Eli Main and that'll
now walk everyone to.

Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
The other end for some free throws.

Speaker 1 (01:31:43):
They look at the numbers too, for Brooks had as
far as a free throw shooter, he's the guy who
don't want to foul. Twenty two of twenty five eighty
percent coming in. Wow, eighty eight percent.

Speaker 3 (01:31:53):
Excuse me, I gotta imagine that Judah Bartel's is a
pretty good foul shooter as well.

Speaker 1 (01:32:00):
Lutely, Joel Sanford obviously right around seventy percent. Actually Bartel's
to your point, and that's what coach Van Campten was
talking about struggling a little bit shooting the season, has
had missed the first only a fifty percent free throw
shooters Bartel's fourteen of twenty eight coming into the contest tonight,

(01:32:23):
more guards coming in and then Rotman as far as
to rebound. Second free throw coming up for hadden't Brooks said,
a big night, only a junior as you mentioned.

Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
Oh, I missed it both. Wow at eighty eight percent
free throw shooter. Wow? Too strong off the back end.
Here come the Vikings have a chance.

Speaker 1 (01:32:43):
Gates the top of the key over the main fires
for three right wing.

Speaker 2 (01:32:46):
No battle for the rebound. I think it's gonna be
off Bartels.

Speaker 1 (01:32:49):
It is because working hard again was Kyle McGowan.

Speaker 3 (01:32:54):
McGowan's been relentless, you heard the Vikings got to hand
it to him.

Speaker 1 (01:32:58):
They got Wing the fresh been in there who can
really shoot the three as well, Gates Lobton McGowan got
a hurry though. Down to twenty two seconds. Try to
dump back to Gates. The inbounds are deflected away. Good
job by Bartel's nineteen seconds left to go.

Speaker 3 (01:33:13):
You must have Jinx Brook's head in there, just talking
about eighty percent shooter.

Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
Wow. Miss is a pair. Maine fires the three on
the inbounds airball.

Speaker 1 (01:33:21):
Rotvin trying to dig it out, hits the decker job
to Bartel's tried to get it to Hadden and oh wow,
knocked out of bounds off of Hadden.

Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
Cadillac gets it back. Coach Van Kipen say, just hold
the basketball.

Speaker 3 (01:33:36):
Yeah, and he's right. They were too quick to write
you have it to get rid of it right away.
You don't have to in traffic.

Speaker 1 (01:33:42):
Gates now threw it off of the back of Bartels,
gets it and puts it up in a head clock is
running those seven seconds six seconds should be fifty five fifty.

Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
They haven't put it up on the board yet.

Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
Five point games, so it's down to two possessions and
a foul by mcgowell with four point four second it's left.

Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
Boy. Coopers will not help themselves to close this.

Speaker 3 (01:34:03):
Thing out, No, not at all. But they need these
free throws here. If he makes one, yeah, pretty much
done at the line.

Speaker 1 (01:34:15):
Nate to Wall the junior guard, the left em around
and out that one one halfway down and popped out.
Coach Van Kempen saying, just get me one, will you?

Speaker 3 (01:34:25):
I think I know what they're the Broncos are gonna
be doing tomorrow at practice.

Speaker 1 (01:34:29):
Got the second one, good job and now a thirty
second time out by coach Van Kempen.

Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
We'll keep it right here.

Speaker 1 (01:34:37):
We mentioned Montel Construction bringing the coaches corner segments along
with our defensive player of the game. Montel Construction, schedule
your free and home estimate today for your next it
sterior project.

Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
They're gonna be coming up down at.

Speaker 1 (01:34:49):
DeVos Place, the remodeling show coming up next weekend, not
this weekend, and we'll be off, but then we'll be
back Tuesday night, January seventh. I think Jason Hutt will
be back court side with me for a good When
we saw the Rockford girls basketball team and in that
game that they had with Granfa's Catholic Central, sixteen threes
made combined by both teams. But tell you what, the

(01:35:11):
Rockford girls led by Anna Ye Pitch, the senior and
Miss Basketball candidate for the Rams, they could be going
back to the Buzzlim Center for another Final Four appearance.
I think maybe the best girls team in the area
is certainly one of them.

Speaker 2 (01:35:24):
Oh, no question about it. What a program they have there.

Speaker 3 (01:35:27):
They've gotten used to going down to the Breslin and
their fans just filled the place up. We don't want
to get too far ahead of ourselves, but yeah, definitely
a team to watch.

Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
And the big reds of my skige.

Speaker 1 (01:35:37):
I mean, you know, being on the lake shore on
the girls side, the boys side, fantastic, the girls side.
They had some big expectations, but they certainly haven't come
through with some wins in the early part of the season.

Speaker 3 (01:35:47):
No, they but they're the kind of team that's gonna
be dangerous.

Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
Come march.

Speaker 1 (01:35:51):
Elie Main fires a three and you hear the horn
behind the sound and that'll do it. Coopers Bell digs
out a six point win fifty six fifty the final
over Cadillac, and what a turn in that second quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:36:05):
They were down eight twenty one to thirteen to start.

Speaker 1 (01:36:08):
After one of the eighteen to five run in that
second quarter, I'll lead it by five at the break.
That they outscore Cadillac seventeen to ten in that third
quarter and never look back.

Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
They hang on to win it fifty six to fifty.
The final.

Speaker 1 (01:36:21):
We're gonna see if we can talk to Pete Van
Kempen here in a minute. The victorious coach for Coopersville
as they will now improve to four and four the
five hundred mark Tom. Of course, in the River City's alliance,
they are going to be a factor. Cadillac just their
second loss of the season as they drop.

Speaker 2 (01:36:40):
To five and two.

Speaker 1 (01:36:42):
See if we can get Coach van Kempin's attention here
for a second.

Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
Oh, a lot of.

Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
Talent scoring for Coopersville.

Speaker 1 (01:37:01):
Yeah, so Coach van Kempin, you can go go ahead.
We'll wait for Coach van Kempin. See if we get
coach here for a second. Coach joning the scurtside, Congratulations,
you knew this was gonna be a tough play.

Speaker 2 (01:37:21):
They had a lot of size over there. But I
love the grid.

Speaker 1 (01:37:23):
And how about the way you guys turned the game
in that second quarter with your steals and getting some
easy baskets.

Speaker 9 (01:37:29):
Yeah, can you hear me?

Speaker 1 (01:37:31):
Yes?

Speaker 25 (01:37:31):
Uh, Nate Douall again and Levi Stewart came off the bench,
and Levi was just awesome.

Speaker 9 (01:37:37):
We didn't give up on the play.

Speaker 8 (01:37:39):
Uh.

Speaker 25 (01:37:40):
Brody Robman used to be a starter, came off the
bench again, same thing, rebounding big kid. I can't say
enough about our kids. I'm really proud of him.

Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
You know what, you look at it too.

Speaker 1 (01:37:50):
We were kidding and talking about it was like hockey
lines off the bench for you guys. But that's one
of the fact that we had seven different kids score
in that first half.

Speaker 25 (01:37:57):
For you guys, you know, our JV team last year
was seventeen and three, and nobody knows that they were
really good players. And we're just blessed. We're blessed with depth.
We got other kids there that can play. Just again,
proud of these guys tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:38:13):
All right, coach, And how do you feel about this
win going into the league season. He's got to feel
good to get this kind of win before going into
the conference play.

Speaker 9 (01:38:23):
Okay, I've coached a long time.

Speaker 25 (01:38:25):
I was we were one and twenty once and I
tell people this all the time, like you never every
win is great. What I was really proud of is
I think we improved a ton tonight. We've been slowly
getting better. We've never put it together, and honestly, the
first quarter wasn't great, but the next three quarters were
really really good. And I'm excited, Yes I am.

Speaker 2 (01:38:44):
I want to say about your two leading scores Brooks had.

Speaker 1 (01:38:47):
I don't even know who they were, but I'm saying
coming in, Brooks hadn't had his moments. But also Judah
Bartell's Tom and I were talking about it wasn't going
for him early.

Speaker 2 (01:38:55):
He was getting some decent looks, but they weren't dropping.

Speaker 1 (01:38:58):
But he stayed with it and then he had that
big quarter, I believe in the third quarter, and it
was just a different player for him. You gotta be
happy with the patients of those guys. They weren't getting
frustrated at all. They just kept playing.

Speaker 9 (01:39:09):
Experience will do that.

Speaker 25 (01:39:10):
Playing a lot of big games last year, those two
and uh and Judas are rock. Like I told you,
he doesn't come out of games. Yeah, I don't know
if he came out of this one. Maybe a minute
and uh, yeah, I'm just I don't know.

Speaker 9 (01:39:25):
Uh.

Speaker 25 (01:39:26):
You wonder about your team coming in after a couple
of tough losses, and we did well tonight. I think
that's a really good basketball team. And uh, that was
a good win for us. Pete Go celebrated with the kids.
How does want to know what twenty twenty five sound?

Speaker 9 (01:39:38):
Hey man, everyone who know sounds great? And I did
it with you here, Brett bikeda. I don't know when
the last time we won a game with you about
whoever I was gonna say, I think he's I think
it's not Drew.

Speaker 1 (01:39:47):
Yeah, I'm the Coopers Milt Jakes.

Speaker 2 (01:39:50):
But hey, congratulations coach.

Speaker 9 (01:39:52):
I appreciate it. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:39:53):
Pete bank kep enjoined us here. He is great, as
you know, Tom, you got a chance to talk to him,
and you can hear the excitement he has for his
team because he knows this is just what they needed
as far as a win as he's gonna get ready
to scout Greenville, who's in the River City's alliance, and
like you said, unbeaten company, they're gonna take on Kent
City next.

Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
But I mean, this is exactly what coaches look for.

Speaker 1 (01:40:14):
This was kind of that aha moment I think for
his team, like hey, we've got another layer, We've got
another level here, and they proved it tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:40:21):
Yeah, everybody, it was a total team effort for Coopersville.
Like you said, they were down by eight after that
first quarter. I think Cadillac got a little complacent. I
think they felt like, Wow, this is gonna be an
easy win. Coopersville just turned up the defensive pressure. We'll
mention some of those kids who were part of it.
And then how about Brooks Hadden. Yeah, just the job.

(01:40:42):
He did just three three pointers there in the second
quarter and they never looked back.

Speaker 2 (01:40:47):
All right, we'll take a break.

Speaker 1 (01:40:48):
We'll come back with a discount door postgame show give

Well, let's go through our individual scoring summary in this one.
It's brought to you by MKD Funderal Holmes said. Here
to take care of that is my partner Tom Keedra.

Speaker 3 (01:44:22):
Again looking at the scoring for both teams, bred it
was the ballance scoring of Coopersville. They had eight players
to score compared to just five players to score for Cadillac.
First of all, for the Vikings, Kyle McGowan, the six
to eight senior. He was a workhorse twenty one points
a game high, but he had to work for all
of them.

Speaker 2 (01:44:40):
Tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:44:41):
The only other Viking in double figures was Eli Main
with twelve.

Speaker 2 (01:44:45):
He's a six to two guard.

Speaker 3 (01:44:48):
Grant Williams had seven points, Gavin Gates had six points,
all in the second half, and Bailey Wade with four.
Poor Coopersville again it was Brooks had in the the
junior guard four to three pointers, three of them in
the second quarter. There he had a team high sixteen points.
The other Bronco in double figures was Judah Bartel's He

(01:45:12):
only had four points at halftime, eight in the second
half to finish with twelve. Then it was Nathan Dewall
did a great job on both ends of the court.
He finished with eight points. Joel Sanford was seven in
the back court those two and then Brody Rotman and
Carter Mechis the two big guys for Coopersville, each with

(01:45:32):
four points. Ethan al Fink had three and Levi Stewart
with two to round out the scoring.

Speaker 1 (01:45:38):
And if you're just tuning in scoring by quarter, Cadillac
jumped out to that early eight point lead after one
twenty one to thirteen, and the tables turned pressure, picked
up loose balls, buckets, knocking down threes. Coopersville went crazy
outscoring Cadillac in that second quarter eighteen to five to
lead it by five at the break thirty one to
twenty six. They extended their lead with a seventeen to

(01:45:59):
ten scoring bans in the third quarter forty eight thirty
six to lead by a dozen after three, and then
again give Cadillac credit, they didn't quit, They came back,
they battled, They got it within five, but it was
a free throw late. Coopersville wins at fifty six fifty
the final. There is your second half scoring summary. MKD

Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
Again, Coopersville wins.

Speaker 1 (01:49:38):
At by six over Cadillac fifty six fifty The final. Well,
let's go to Tom Kendrin now with our uptown Chiefskate
Offensive player of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:49:48):
Well, Coopersville rarely turned up the defense there in the
second quarter and it got their offense going. Nobody more
so than Brooks had and the junior guard. He scored
eleven points in the second quarter on three three pointers.
In the second half, he was a little more quiet,
but he did add a four to three pointer on
the game, finished with a team high sixteen points.

Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
So, uh, we're.

Speaker 3 (01:50:11):
Gonna make him our uh Brooks had in the junior
for Coopersville, our offensive player of the game.

Speaker 1 (01:50:15):
And with his athleticism, you know, it just makes a
lot of little things happen out there. They really need,
along with Bartel's their athleticism to help out Coopersville, and
that was one of the things that shone through in
that second half for him. Congratulations, Junior Brooks had number
eleven guard for Coopersville. Tonight's Updown Cheapskate Offensive Player of
the Game brought to you by Uptown Cheapskate with okase

Plus you could become an Uptown insider and get monthly

I'm gonna go with his teammate, mister hand in the
cookie jar, just making things happen. Nate de Wall, you mentioned,
had eight points, but so many little things, so many
steals you had to have let him and steals number

(01:50:59):
twenty two. Another junior guard that'll be back next year
for coach Van Kemp and our Montel Construction defensive player
of the game. I mean, have you seen a team
like them? Just intense bug you with that two three
matchups home, But there were a lot of different little
nuances at you.

Speaker 3 (01:51:13):
No, they did a great job with it and really
frustrated Cadillac, the big guys at Cadillac. They didn't know
where these hands were coming from. But most of the time,
you're right, it was Nathan de Wall leading the way.

Speaker 1 (01:51:23):
So congratulations to Nate and that leads us to our
J and H Family Stores highlight of the game. As
Tom mentioned, sometimes we're the broadcast. We didn't even have
a chance to finish our thought because here comes Coopersville
flying down with another one of these had.

Speaker 11 (01:51:40):
Another one Bruks hadn't from out of this CEU here
at Cornerstone, and he gives Coopers to the lead almost
another steal, and there it was Brooks had in one
of his many threes.

Speaker 1 (01:51:52):
Tonight our J and H Family Stores highlight of the
game brought to you by J H Family Stores with
now sixty plus locations across Michigan to serve you H family.
So it's stopping on the way to your next game,
are on your way home. Well as we close things
out here, our Baskets for Kids campaign is underway in
full force. We mentioned the Rockford game on the girls
side with Grandaffitts Catholic Central sixteen three pointers. Do the

(01:52:13):
math at fifty dollars per a three pointer, that's eight
hundred dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
That was in game one to start that.

Speaker 1 (01:52:18):
We had eight three pointers in the Byron Center boys
game as they beat Grandrafforts Catholic Central here at the
CU tournament, so four hundred more dollars. That got us
to twelve hundred dollars going into tonight. As Tom alluded to,
we racked up. We don't have a final count yet.
We'll have that for you on Tuesday Night, a lot
more threes to help a lot of kids out there,
nourishing local kids in the community.

Speaker 2 (01:52:39):
That's what Kids Food Basket is all about.

Speaker 3 (01:52:41):
Yeah, it's a great program, and you know it's great
during the football season when we do it for touchdowns
and even more three pointers in the basketball seasons for
a great cause.
