Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and today Dana with producer Anthony, and we've
got the three things you need to know to get
your Wednesday, November twelfth, with the most dynamic sky ever.
Let's get it started and let's get the government open.
It could happen today. The House will gather this afternoon
hopefully to make this happen, so families who qualify for

(00:24):
SNAP will get relief, and mayhem at the airports will
calm down. President even said he'd love to give air
traffic controllers who showed up for work ten thousand dollars bonuses. Yes, please,
that would be amazing. Well, my daughter sent me incredible
pictures of these northern lights from Barneveld, Wisconsin last night.
She's like, Mom, this is right outside my door. Well,

(00:45):
all over social media in Texas and right here in
Belleville in Cleveland, people were able to see these beautiful,
beautiful northern lights and kind of a reddish bluish green,
very christmasy, and it's a very rare display of severe
geomagnetic storms. That's way over my head, but that's what

(01:06):
they're called. And the Battle of the ice cream wars
heating up. We of course have Bluebell ice Cream. We
might be getting some competition from where my sons live
in Oklahoma. Broms making its first appearance in Longview. They've
already got some locations in Dallas, but I'm gonna stick
with Bluebell and they're Peppermint pink peppermint ice cream, which
is now on store shelves and time for the holidays. Anthony,

(01:29):
it's so good. It's it's disgustingly good, it really is.
And we can have ice cream today because it is good.
The warm up is underway, yep. We're gonna go up
to eighty two. Just some dynamic cloud dynamic clouds this
morning and no rain for the next couple of days,
but it will be in the eighties right now. Feels good.
It's sixty in Uptown and eure up to date on
sunny Tell me something good. Brought to us by our

(01:53):
friends at Goodwill, Houston, Well and Kyle, Texas. We would
like to highlight an amazing nine to one one dispatcher
because she's such an instant operation. Eden Dunn is her name,
and she remained remarkably remarkably calm during a two point
thirty in the morning emergency call. A Kyle resident hauled
in her husband unconscious. She's freaking out. Will Eden dispatched

(02:14):
emergency crews and then was able to guide the panic
wife through CPR instructions over the phone. Seven minutes later,
the er crew arrives, the patient makes it to the hospital,
was treated, recovers and released. Eden has she's won the
Life Saving Award and she was recently reunited with a
very thankful family, who described Eden as so calm and

(02:37):
helpful during this crisis. Eating said meeting the family and
talking to the husband who she saved reminds her that
her job can make a difference in people's lives, and
her motto, I love this. Don't make the caller's emergency
your emergency. Wow, isn't that great? So Eden? You are
quite a bright light producer.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Anthony driven by its mission to change life through the
power of work. Dan Goodwill Houston is proud to announce
the grand opening of the new Goodwill Connect Center on Tuesday,
December ninth. It's a space dedicated to empowering individuals through education,
career pathway training, and access to life changing job opportunities.
You can find the new Connect Center located at eighty
two twenty five South Guestner Road. They're going to offer

(03:17):
a wide range of programs focused on repair and maintenance,
information technology, and clean technology. Participants will will have access
to career readiness workshops, personalized coaching, community resources, and job
placement services that connect them directly to local employers. And
the community is invited to enjoin Goodwill Houston to celebrate
this exciting milestone. Guess we'll have the opportunity to tour
the facility, meet the team, and see firsthand how the

(03:39):
Connect Center is connecting people to opportunities and changing lives
through the power of work. So once again, the grand
opening for the new Goodwill Connect Center coming up December ninth,
and even more lives about.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
To be changed. It will it just I feel so
good every time I go in and do some amazing shopping.
Oh yes, talk about ugly sweaters. You can find Christmas
sweaters that Goodwill right there. Great idea, Well, this is
a great idea. Yesterday Veterans Day. I think every day
should be a day where we honor and thank our
veterans for serving our country. There's this great program it's
called Save two lives at once, and it's for anyone

(04:10):
who wants to help curb Houston's animal over population problem
and give a hand to those who served in the military.
They are pairing German shepherds with veterans.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Now.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Pam Bradshaw is a big impetus for this, and she
says that German shepherds are the most dumped dogs. So
they go find German shepherds in crisis, they rescue them,
They work with the Marine Council of Southeast Texas, pause
for vets, and then pair these German shepherds after they've
worked with them with veterans. It's amazing and it's a

(04:44):
French name. You can check out the website Save de Shin.
It's called for Saving Dogs sa U V E R
D S c h I E n s dot com.
You can find out all the details. It's amazing and
I love when we can highlight some incredible organizations. We're
helping him make people's lives beat. Sunday nighty nine quaint

(05:06):
one Houston's best variety of the eighties nineties, and today
I'm Dana with producer Anthony and Anthony we learned in
our nearly Impossible Question this morning that we have some
their ways to release these feel good hormones. Of course,
when you fall in love. We learned earlier this week
that when you listen to Christmas music, it also releases
these feel good hormones because Anthony the lyrics are all

(05:28):
about kindness and love and generosity, right, I mean, think
about the Christmas lyrics. And then we learned this morning
that if you want a dopamine boost that lasts about
thirty minutes or so, get free stuff. Just get something
for free. Yeah, that helps you as well. And I
got a free coffee the other day by the sweetest
guy named Tito. He just felt like, you know, my

(05:51):
mom always told me to do kind things, so I
just wanted to buy you a coffee. I love that
it felt so. I wasn't thinking of the scientific effect, body, No,
you're not. I just felt happy. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
It's like it's like when and I know I've shared it,
like the stories of the Chick fil A drive through
and I'm going through and then oh, sir, they've already
taken care of your order. What and then I have
to take care of it for the person behind me. Yep,
that feeling though that somebody has like like, I remember
that feeling dame when you described it at the coffee place.
But just when I'm in the drive through, You're I'm
I'm I've got blinders on. I'm just doing my thing.

(06:23):
And then when somebody when you when you find out
something somebody stopped for a moment to think of you, Yeah,
completely changes.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Your day, exactly, exactly. I'll never forget you mentioned Chick
fil A. My two sons, Mitch and Matt, started working
at Chick fil A. They were like fifteen and sixteen.
Hour opened up in the Woodlands, the one on Rayford
Sawdust and Mitch didn't even have a first pay check yet.
He had no money, and he bought the very first customer.
He bought them their lunch.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
I remember that actually, and the.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
General manager was watching. Mitch had no idea. He's just like,
I just want to buy this guy's lunch. Yeah, and
I'm thinking, but you have no money. He didn't have
any money, but he did. He figured out a way
to buy this person lunch. And the manager they I
guess they get awarded for doing random acts of kindness,
which Mitch didn't know about. It was just a nice thing.
So before Mitch blessed this person. Then Mitch got blessed

(07:12):
and it wasn't intentional, it was just things just seemed
to work out really well. When you do kind things,
you know, with no strings attached, it's.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
So worth it too, and you feel so good for
doing that for somebody as well.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
We would love to hear from you if you've done
that for someone made them feel good, just unexpectedly, just
I mean, it could be something dramatic or something so
simple really as a cup of coffee. What what is
it for you? Someone? You gave someone something free, or
maybe you got something free seven one three two one
two five ninety nine one Sunday ninety nine point one

(07:44):
Houston's Best Variety of the eighties nineties and today Dana
with producer Anthony. We're talking about getting free stuff. Getting
free stuff boosts are feel good hormones, like a thirty minute,
little feel good moment, and I love that. I thought
it'd be kind of fine fun to find out if
you've gotten an thing free, or if you've given someone
something free because you just felt moved. And we've got

(08:05):
Heather calling in from Brenham. Now, did you get something
for free or did you give someone something for free.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Actually, last Thanksgiving, we got extra money that we didn't
know was coming to us, and when I went to
go buy our turkey for Thanksgiving, I ended up buying
the groceries for the next five people for their Thanksgiving.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Five people five?

Speaker 3 (08:31):
About five people?

Speaker 1 (08:32):
WHOA, Heather, that's incredible. Did you go in there planning
that or did you just kind of got this like
little message, hey buy them there?

Speaker 3 (08:41):
No, No, I didn't plan it at all. I had
extra money, and I knew we had all of our
stuffs paid for, we didn't necessarily need it. And the
person in front of me was really struggling to buy
their turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, and I'm like, you know what,
I'll get it, oh my, And then the next four
people were behind us, and I'm like, I'll just get

(09:02):
y'all too. And it felt really good and I didn't
want any praise or anything for it. But the lady
that was in the lane over, she came over, took
a picture of me and the cashier and ended up
posting it on our local Facebook page, and I was like,
I didn't want any recognition. I just wanted to do
something nice. But it's so good.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
That is so great, and what a great memory for
you is. Well, you're like, I didn't even mean to
do this. It's just like something came over me rightly.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Yes, exactly, Heather, I'm telling you what.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
That's what the Christmas music does. It makes us all
be kinder and more genit really, don't you think so?

Speaker 3 (09:38):
I can't wait for it.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Did you hear the announcement when we're gonna flip the switch?

Speaker 3 (09:43):
No, I'm wondering when head.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
I want you to go to our Instagram at Sunny
ninety nine Houston. You'll see me in Santa's bag. Literally, seriously,
I'm in Santa's bage, yourself in and I'm revealing the
day and the time you check it out.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Okay, Okay, I'll have to do that.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Okay. You're a sweetheart, Heather. Thank you so much for listening,
love your story. That was so kind.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
