Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's best Variety of the
eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony. We've
got the three things you need to know to get
your Tuesday June tenth started. Well, we are learning. By
twenty thirty seven, Houston is expected to take Chicago spot
as the third largest city in the United States. We
had forty three thousand people move here last year. Since

(00:23):
twenty twenty ninety one thousand whoa new people coming to town. Well,
I saw the way Mo driverless taxi when I was
in Austin recently. It was crazy dropping people off at
Franklin's Barbecue and you're looking, there's no driver I, No
one's in there. What kind of ride was that that
people loved it. It's already begun testing here in Houston

(00:44):
neighborhoods Lazybrook, timber Grove, Midtown Greenway. Also you'll see them
on iten I forty five and I sixty nine, but
still humans behind the wheel until next summer. Then we'll
see if they go driverless in Houston. And it's being
ubbed the greatest neighborhood restaurant, and it's coming to us
in the Galleria area along Post Oak Boulevard. It's called

(01:07):
the Henry. There's already one in Texas. It's up in Dallas.
They've got brunch, breakfast, lunch and dinner, pressed yellowtail, sushy,
short rib pot stickers, Anthony's all time favorite. And they're
already in Arizona, California, Florida and Tennessee. I just love
the what they've been dubbed. I don't know if they
dubbed themselves the greatest neighborhood that menus. It sounds very

(01:29):
sounds like fire amazing does weather today looking pretty amazing
right now? Can't rule out rain. We've got a sixty
percent chance of rain actually right through the rest of
the week. And today we go up to eighty nine
right now, seventy six in Uptown and you're up to
date on sunny. Tell me something good brought to us

(01:49):
by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well you of H's
Jamar Marshall Junior is trying to get his national championship
in the one hundred meter hurdles. Now wasn't too long
ago that he didn't even think he'd ever be able
to run again. Doctors told him he needed heart surgery
to fix a condition he had with that rapid heartbeat.

(02:10):
He wasn't sure if he'd be the same Jamar after
the surgery, Well he is, but better. Entering the NCAA
Championship in Oregon in top form U of H record
holder in one ten hurdles and the Big twelve champion,
Jamar says he feels so good. Racing feels effortless to him.

(02:30):
He says, it feels way too good to be true. Now.
The national semifinals are tomorrow and then he's hoping to
advance to the finals. Wow, amazing after heart surgery, he's
like a whole new person, I know, Producer Anthony Dane.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
The summer is the perfect time for Houstonario teens to
learn and grow by volunteering, not only giving them life lessons,
but also making a positive impact in the community. And
we've got quite a few places that could they could
find their passions. They can check out the Boys and
Girls Club of Greater Houston. They have in person and
even remote options for certain teens. If there's a love
of outdoors, Houston Parks and Rec Department has their Opening

(03:03):
Doors Team mentor program. Maybe they've got a passion for
learning or history. The Children's Museum of Houston is the
place they can join their Discovery Squad for teens in
the same vein the Houston Museum of Natural Science at
sugar Land they have their cy teen program, one that
I've done in the past plenty of times. The Houston
Food Bank they have plenty of you volunteer opportunities, and
if you've got an animal lover in the family, check

(03:24):
out the Houston Zoo and their Zoo Crew Explorers program.
That sounds awesome, but literally no shortage of opportunities for
teens to find their passion and also give back a
little while they enjoy the summer.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
And it's funny yesterday where we are talking about it's
time for the kids to say I'm board. I know
now how you've got some ideas absolutely to kind of
fight that boredom. I love that. Now. We've got so
many nurses who listen to Sonny, maybe it's your dream
to becommon nurse. Well, UTA help is making dreams come true.
Their new ut Houston Future Nurse Fund will provide free

(03:58):
in state tuition and fees to qualifying students enrolled in
their Bachelor of Science program in the spring of twenty
twenty six. If you get into the Paysetter Accelerated BSN
program and which and you earn less than one hundred
thousand dollars, this is where you could be accepted into
this free tuition program. It's very exciting. By the way,

(04:22):
the BSN program ranked number one in Texas. If you
would like more information, seven one three, five hundred thirty
thirty and good luck. We love nurses, yes we do.
Anthony's mom is a nurse and she is quite an
inspiration to all of us. Listen. We always have our
tell Me Something Good stories up at Sunday ninety nine

(04:43):
dot com for you to check out. And also you
can follow us on Facebook, x, TikTok and Instagram at
Sunday ninety nine. Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best
Variety of the eighties, nineties and Today, I'm DANAE with
producer Anthony. Looks pretty right now, but don't let that
fool you. We could have some re might be raining
in some spots as we speak. Sixty percent chance of

(05:03):
more showers today going up to eighty nine. Right now,
it's seventy six in Uptown. I'm Dana with producer Anthony.
Some of us love our handbags. Some of us it's
just another item to throw our keys and our money in. Yeah,
and we're talking about handbags because the majority of women
love to get complimented, complimented on their handbag. We learn
that our nearly impossible question this morning at six forty,

(05:26):
So we're asking you, are you the kind of person
that uses the same one? Do you have a special handbag?
Do you change them out with your style? And we
have got Katie calling in from bia Vista. Now you
raise and train dogs, so I just want to ask
you do you have a special like a fanny pack
type handbag? I have like an actual person for me,

(05:48):
but then I have training bag, the training bags that
have a lot of treats in them, right, usually a
train with kibble yeah yeah, okay, spots and a lady
trainer dog. The other day at the park and she
had like a little fanny pack, kept handing the dog
like treats every time he cooperated. So tell us about
your handbag, the one that's for you, not for the dogs.

(06:09):
It's just like a hobo over the shoulder bag. Uh huh?
Is it some? It was? It a gift we learned
it our nearly impossible question that we love getting compliments
on our handbags, women do, and just wondering if this
bag that you use has special significance it does not
have just thoughted off Amazon a long time ago, but
I bought a new one yesterday on Amazon because mine

(06:30):
was looking a little rough. She just replaces, so it
should be arriving any day now, yeah today? All right?
And is it? Was it a pricey bag or are
you just more more economical with your handbag? Economical? It's
like twenty dollars, I know, I know, she really kind
of lady that all guys would love. Because you're not
going to request a designer handbag, right, I don't think

(06:53):
I've ever owned a Wow, So what do you what
do you feel about? You know, we always see celebrities
with these ridiculou list thousand dollars handbags. What do you
think about that? I mean, that's their choice that they
want to spend their money that way, But I don't
do that. What would you rather spend your money on?
Since it's not a designer handbag?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (07:12):
I so need a new car? A new car? See
us a little bit more practical, alright, got to get
to work. Hello, well we are How did you get
into dog training?

Speaker 2 (07:23):
My husband's an owns watermarker Sugers, and so I started
working with her about seven or eight years ago.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Wow, that is it. Isn't it amazing how we just
kind of destiny brings us to the job. I'm I'm
sure you're loving your job, right? Oh? I absolutely love it. Yes,
that is great, well to be. It's so nice to
talk to you, and I'm so glad you listened to Sonny.
We appreciate you. Thank you. Have a great joy.
