November eleventh started. It is Veterans today, and today we
will honor them. There is a traditional Veterans Day ceremony
begins at ten at City Hall this morning and a

street closures in the area start just around nine o'clock,
so get there early. And then after this ceremony a
big parade Houston salutes American heroes. This begins at eleven
thirty and it's going to have ROTC students, marching bands,
local veterans organizations.

It will be beautiful.

Now out in Fort ben County you're seeing something beautiful
honoring veterans and other local heroes. It's the Field of
Honor at the u of EH Sugarland campus. Now, last
year there were a thousand American flags. This year two
thousand American. It's the Exchange Club of Sugarland. They organized

the day and they just wanted people to feel proud
of our country and the American flag. And this week
HFD is honoring the life of Fallen firefighter Marcella Garcia,
the IID, lost his life last week battling a warehouse
fire on the East Side, and the procession was held yesterday.
The woman accused of setting that fire has been charged

with arson and tomorrow there'll be a public viewing at
Forest Park, Lawndale Funeral Home. Wednesday is the funeral. It
will be a co cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church.

The game of golf is changing the lives of veterans.
Daryl Hayes and Melissa Lewis are just two of them
suffering the effects of hard times in the military, but
since participating in PGA Hope, they're finding peace, relief, even joy.

Thanking Jonathan Shofner, this is his second year putting on
the PGA Hope Veterans Cup and the mission is just
helping our patriots everywhere. So we think about and we
honor those veterans on this Veterans Day, producer Anthony Dane.

Today is Veterans Day, and also honoring the day, there's
a group of kids who brought a ton of joy
to veterans living over at the Legacy at Long Meadow.
It's a senior living community over in Richmond, and it
was the amazing kids from the Children's Lighthouse. They spent
the morning knocking on vets apartment doors, bringing them personalized
little thank you cards. Jim Mitchell is one of those
vets who look forward to this every November. He served
as or served in the Air Force for twenty years

and he says this sweet acx warms his heart. Now
at the age of eighty, he finds comfort when he
sees future generations honoring servicemen and women, including those who
made the ultimate sact. So big thank you to again
to the kids from Children's Lighthouse, bring in smiles and
memories to our veterans who put in the time so
we can enjoy our everyday freedoms.

There's going to be a big parade Houston salutes American heroes.
There is the traditional Veterans Day ceremony that begins at
ten at City Hall this morning, and then the parade
begins downtown at eleven thirty, so you can if you
want to get there in person. It's best to get
there before nine because that's when there will be street closures.
