Speaker 1 (01:26):
What these Rice University students did to an old van
that was just collecting dust at the Housing and Dining area.
It was just sitting there. Well, these are engineering students,
so they're brilliant. They're about thirty of them. And what
they did is they put hundreds of hours and fifty
three thousand dollars into renovating this old van.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Now that it was paid for by a university grant.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
And Andrew in her to the class of twenty twenty
four said, what they did is they gutted the entire
thing and completely converted it to an electric vehicle that
actually works. It's part of the Capstone Design project. This
is a requirement for Rice University Engineering majors. It's now
a GM trucked with a motor from Omni and batteries
(02:15):
out of a Tesla Oho. It's got ac a backup camera,
cruise control, Bluetooth, and so many other features.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Like I said, total tab fifty three thousand dollars paid
for by a university grant and it is now driving
around Rice University.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
It's a legit vehicle. That's awesome. So cool. Producer Anthony Dane,
I love these stories.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
There's a North Texas man who needed a kidney and
the call for help came from a classmate for more
than two decades ago. See Jeremy and Angelina were in
a typing class together twenty five years ago, and Jeremy
needed a miracle. He'd hit rock bottom with his weight
and his kidney functions were failing. He's a Federal corrections officer.
His weight had hit over three hundred pounds, his kidney
numbers were in the single digits. He was totally had
(02:56):
two months to live, get your affairs in order. Wow,
imagine hearing that. But he was found to have the
same blood type compatibility with a classmate from way back
in the day. It was a match. Surgeries went well.
Jeremy's responding to the new kidneys on his medication. They
share a body part, but he says he now also
gained a new family member. Along the way. It's so cool.
Great news for Jeremy being saved by old classmate.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
And speaking of being saved, this precious orphan dolphin rescued
over the weekend in a Texas lake near San Antonio.
The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network was there to help out.
This little dolphin was landlocked in Power Lake and mom
was later found deceased along the beach. They don't know
how she died, but they were all in to take
(03:40):
care of this little dolphin. The Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department was there, the National Oceanic Ration was there, fisheries
were there, all collaborating. Lots of rescuers came in from
Galveston as well. They got four boats to help this dolphin.
They got it, took her to SeaWorld San Antonio, now
recovering and receiving XURT care. And if you ever see
(04:02):
a stranded dolphin, there is a network that can help
rescue the dolphins. It's one eight hundred nine mammal. That's
m mm al. Pretty cool. All the love they have, yeah,
our fish and by the way, we always have our
tell me something Good stories up at Sunday ninety nine
