Speaker 1 (00:14):
HISD still hundreds of students that don't have their bus
route and some bus drivers are saying that their buses
are lacking working air conditioners for special needs students.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
That's a tough one now.

Mike Miles, the superintendent, says they've got to talk to
the bus yard dispatchers with any bus problems and he's
working on getting all the routes to all the kids now.
Day two for HISD, daily routines have been overhauled because
they're now under the NES, the new education system. This
year one hundred and thirty schools under the system, forty
(00:47):
five more than last year. NEES means more rigorous instruction.
Classes have timers, teachers follow pre planned lessons, and students
will be working with learning coaches. And si Fair has
some bus woes to parents. Told Syfair id the board
last night. Something's got to be done. The district, facing
(01:08):
budget shortfalls, cut seventy nine bus routes, so some kids
have to walk over a mile to school on busy
roadways no sidewalks. The district is saying it's up to
parents to provide safe transportation. Your weather today, well, we've
got that heat advisory again. We are going to go
up to ninety five. It'll feel like one hundred and eleven,
(01:28):
but we've got a fifty percent chance of maybe cooling showers.

Something good brought to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston.
All the Olympics are over. I am so looking forward
to LA twenty twenty eight. In the meantime, we're finding
out some amazing things about our Olympians from Texas, or
maybe they trained in Texas. Now, you know, it's all
about showcasing athletes from around the world, but the lone
(02:02):
star state really shined. Texas garnered forty three medals. Texas
a state, mind you, was number seven in medal count
among all countries, and not only hefty metal counts, but
home state to goats like Simone Bias Oh yes, Kevin Durant,
Julian Alfred Shekara Richardson twenty twenty eight in LA. That's
(02:27):
the next Olympics. You know, Texas will reign supreme again.
We do what we do and I love that. iHeartRadio
was a big part of it. We were the no
We were the exclusive audio home for the Olympics and
it just made it so much easier to watch and enjoy.

It's become a new tradition for the North Side, all
in honor of a little boy who lost his life
back in twenty sixteen. It's the Safe Walk Home North
Side and yesterday, state and local leaders get over at
Marshall Middle School and we're joined by HBD in the
Harris County Sheriff's Office. It's a tradition that began after
the tragic incident with eleven year old Hoseway Flores, and
it's all to emphasize the importance of supporting students each
(03:12):
year while also prioritize it pressing safety. This year's event
took on a little more festive note. There was lively music,
also goodie bags full of snacks and supplies for the students.
I love seeing the community come together not only to
emphasize the safety aspect, but now it's turning more into
something that just even more positive. So great job everyone
to continue continuing the new safe Walk Home North Side tradition.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
What a great way to honor that little boy, really though.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
And then I have to brag on Texas again because
the Texas team once again the Little League World Series
Born Little League Thursday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
That's when it all begins.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Now Born earned its spot after beating Louisiana, so we're
going to be able to see them on ESPN six
pm on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
If they win, their next game will be Monday.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
If Borne loses, they'll play in the elimination bracket Saturday
on ESPN Day Oh Born. We always have our tell

Sunny ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Houston Sunday ninety nineteen one. It is seven twenty one now.
Dana in the Morning and producer Anthony we've got Houston's
best variety of the eighties nineties, and today, on a
hot day, we're going to go up to ninety five.
It's going to feel like one hundred and eleven. We
do have a heat advisory, but we've got a fifty
percent chance of rain today.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Right now, it's eighty two.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
In Uptown, we were talking about snacks and my oldest
texted me and said, mom, goldfish.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
How could you have forgotten goldfish? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Really well, and Anthony shared a really amazing fact about goldfish. Yeah,
and he says, what do you think the serving size is?
First I said ten, goldfish. This is for the baked
ones that I get.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yeah, right, And then I said fifteen. Then I said fifteen,
and I was like, and you were like, finally, fifty five.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
That's a serving size for the baked, the baked goldfish,
not the flavor blasted ones and the ones that have
all this.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Just the regular goldfish for a serving size exactly.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
And I remember when I saw that, I was like, yo,
And again, there's plenty of times where you're eating more
than that, But when you look at the service and
not only is that big, but even with that size,
it's still only like one hundred calories and what like
six percent of your your fat. So even even if
you did like two or three times the serving, you're
still okay by comparison.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Because I didn't give the kids. We're talking about our
favorite school snacks. I didn't give the kids twinkies.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
I gave them goldfish, which is great. I love those.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
He's like an assembly line. I just kept pouring goldfish
in little baggies.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
That's exactly what my dad's too cheap to buy them
already packaged. Oh the little snack packs I got, I
know it's.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Ye and just dumped it in little baggies. And then
my dad had assembly line with us too. He had
three lunches he had to make every morning. It was
just like here we go this sandwich, this sandwich, this sandwich,
and then chip chip chip, and then it's like eating
packaged for a week. I would do meal prep. Oh accomplished. Anyway,
we're asking you about your favorite snacks. For me, it
was it was just twinkies. I just loved toreos. For
(06:08):
producer Anthony, and we've asked this question up on our Facebook.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
That's what gave us the idea at Sunny Nighty Night Houston.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Funny response, Yeah and good responses to Holly said, toasted
bread with melted cheese on top. Anything bread, I would
go through heavy bread faces. Lou Hernandez says they had
a man who drove a snow cone truck through Baytown
when he grew up best snow cones. Ever, Mary went
a little healthy sliced tomatoes with lemon, salt and pepper.
That sounds really good, Mary, And then I had to
(06:34):
shout out Derek Rodriguez who just said his favorite snack
is a kid garden hose water.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I mean that's resourceful, it is refreshing, and we have
got Evelyn. Evelyn headed to Magnolia Junior High School right now, Evelyn, love,
what's your favorite snack?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Cucumbers? Cucumbers? I love those.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Wait a minute, so mom, or you slice up cucumb
is what you put them in a little baggy?
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Now?
Speaker 1 (07:02):
For me it was twinkies lots of sugar and it's
totally fake. How did you get to be so healthy
that you love cucumbers as a snack?
Speaker 2 (07:12):
How did she get you to that point? Evelyn? What
is it about your mom and the way that she eats? Yeah?
Of course. Yeah, yeah, I guess that's how it works.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Do you ever eat like a cookie or a piece
of cake or ice cream? Of course from in that area.
Then what would be your favorite snack? A little bit
unhealthy snack.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Probably, yeah, exactly. You can't mess with ice cream. No, well, Evelyn,
what does mom give you for it?
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Do you have a sandwich or do you just kind
of have fruits and vegetables? What's your main lunch or
a chicken wrap? The good work mom, teaching your daughter
some healthy habits, Evelyn. I hope you have a wonderful
school year, and I'm so glad you guys listen listen
to us on.
