Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony, and
we've got the three things you need to know to
get your Tuesday June second started, Well, we learned today
that the TEA is going to extend hisd's takeover until
June of twenty twenty seven. The decision comes after a

(00:21):
comprehensive evaluation. They say the extension will allow the district
to build on its progress and achieve lasting success. Well,
yesterday the eighty ninth legislature was closed, passing over a
thousand bills, had lots of work to do. There were
like eight thousand bills or more that they had to consider.
We got the Education Savings account. We're going to be

(00:43):
creating a Texas cyber Board, and also make Texas Healthy
again nutrition law, which I know is going to include
some exercise. These new laws take effect on September first. Now,
one bill that failed to pass banning social media for
users under eighteen. It could have required social media companies
to require a user to verify age before they could

(01:06):
sign up and parents would be notified. The author of
that bill is going to file it again in twenty
twenty seven. Weather today, pretty nice, a summertime day in Houston.
It's going to be partly sunny. We'll go up to
ninety right now. Oh and we do have the Saharan
dust that is coming back this week right now, seventy
eight and uptown and you're up to date.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
I'm sunny.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Tell me something good. Brought to us by our friends
at Goodwill Houston. Well Go Eagles. The Taska seat a
baseball team so excited about their six A Division one
state championship game.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Coming up this Saturday.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Now. The team is described as gritty. They're willing to
do whatever it takes. Head coach Jeremy O'Neil and assistant
coach Thomas Melvin have led the program for the last
fifteen years now. They made it to the state semifinals
back in twenty fourteen.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
They're saying the team is very similar, but this is.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Like the big, big stage. They say the team is selfless. Again,
they're willing to do whatever it takes, going above and beyond.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Well Go Eagles. We hope that you can do it.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Producer Anthony Dane, This is wild. There's a young woman
who had a stroke while flying mid air. Her name
is Maricella a Quizada, and she said she could feel
her tongue come out and she couldn't speak. She ended
up collapsing while board her flight from Turkey back home
to Mexico, literally having this issue flying mid air over
the Atlantic Ocean. But a blessing came Dane. There was
a doctor on board quickly recognized the signs of a

(02:25):
stroke knew what to do. He begins administering oxygen, then
tells the flight crew they needed to divert the flight
to Houston. Well. Once on the ground, Maricello was first
rest of Memorial Herman Northeast to be stabilized and eventually
was airlifted to Memorial Herman up in the Woodlands, where
then a neuro interventional surgeon ended up removing a life
threatening brain clod. Wild but could have ended in tragedy,

(02:45):
became a story of survival and Maricella is expected to
make a full recovery. Doctors say no one will ever
notice she had a major neurological event in her life.
But great job to everyone over at Memorial Herman. We're
so blessed to live with the best hospitals and care
right in our backyard.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Isn't that amazing?

Speaker 1 (02:59):
And she was like, I can't believe this is happening,
they say to me.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Dehydrated and she needed to get up and wasn't moving.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yes, so when you're flying, remember that just incredible. Okay,
maybe you're flying to fun in the sun, but you
really don't need to. If you're lucky enough to live
in Texas, we have the best beaches. The top ten
Texas Beaches list is out from USA today. Is La
Blanca Park on South Padre Island comes in number one,
Surfside Beach comes in number seven, but two Galveston area

(03:30):
beaches made it to the top ten. Galveston Island State
Park came in at number nine and Stuart Beach rounding
out the top. Let's go fifty minutes away to some
of the.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Best beaches in the state, right here, y'all. I love it.
I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
It's one thing to do a karaoke party indoors so fun.
Maybe go to a fun bar and do karaoke and
it's fun to watch, But doing it in your backyard
some summertime fun, especially if you have a whole bunch
of fun stuff set up.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
You've got your pool and everything.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
And we're asking you about karaoke in your backyard because
we learned in our nearly impossible question that it's really
annoying to neighbors.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
And you don't think about that. You know, you're just
having a party.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
And then you're like, ooh, even with the windows closed,
they can still hear you.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Some horses that might not be like Anthony Chase's voice.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
We're asking you about your backyard karaoke parties.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
And we have got Sonya, a nurse calling in from
the east side.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Now it's not just karaoke at the bar, it's karaoke
in your backyard.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Have you ever had a backyard karaoke party?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Oh you have, don't care about it. You're laughing, yes, but.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Not too loud and not not always something night n
when do you earn this singing off? Not Wow, you
know that that's a.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Long fun party.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Now, especially if there are adult beverages being served, it
could turn in that.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Oh you don't do that, okay, And you know what
you can also do?

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Do you ever invite the neighbors to join you so
you're not making them upset?

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Actually, yes, we do very that's the tactic.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Food, see you send them home with food.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Exactly, newt Sonya. What if you were doing karaoke when
Sonya is up? And I love doing Christmas songs karaoke.
I do it at church. It's more fun. Your favorite
song to sing karaoke? What would it be? Give us
a sample of your karaoke singing? Oh no, no, no, no, no,

(05:49):
Come on, Sonya, you're the best. Well, we thank you
so much for listening and so glad that you guys
have fun.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
When's your next karaoke party? It has to be our
next boss fab in June. When you have my daughter's
birthday June the eighteenth, Oh.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
I'm a June twenty second. We can combined birthdays and
sing together. Okay, So Snya, it's the best. And what's
your daughter's name?

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Lannie Lonnie?

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Well, we hope you guys have the best time, and
thank you again for listening. Well, thank you.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Let's set up to conr and speak with another nurse, Angela.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
And we were wondering if you ever had a karaoke party. No,
actually not in the backyard. Okay, karaoke party in your house?
I have with some friends. What would be.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
What is your favorite song to karaoke sing? Oh? I think.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
One of the Taylor Swift songs.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Hey, take it.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Off, shake it off?

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Okay, shakey, all right, Angela, come on now, I know
you're a nurse, and I know you've got an amazing
soothing voice. Say karaoke for us, Taylor Swift, shake it
off right now? Oh my god, come on it off,
take it off.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Are you in the car right now? I am in
the car.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
I haven't passed my coffee, and everyone's looking at.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
You right now, right Angela, have the best day. And
what kind of nurse are you?

Speaker 1 (07:16):
I do pre offen, discharge it fantastic. I'm glad you
make us a part of your day. We appreciate you, Angela.
