eighties nineties, and today Dan in the Morning and producer
Anthony and the Three Things You Need to Know to
get your Monday August twenty six started, well, this is
exciting if it actually happens. We're set to get nine
point nine billion dollars to improve our road system in Houston.
Texas Transportation System approved the plan. It's a ten year plan.

(00:26):
It includes construction modernization in every county in the greater
Houston area, widening I forty five and I ten as
well well. Final preseason game Saturday at Nrgy very exciting
because the Texans one beaten the Rams seventeen to fifteen.
First season game September eighth at Indianapolis one o'clock and

(00:47):
it was such a bummer, but I hope they had
so many great memories made.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
The Bernie Little League lost to.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Saint Lake Mary, Florida on Saturday, ten to seven, and
then yesterday Florida rallies to beat Taiwan in the Little
League World Series final score two to one. It's their
first championship in nine tries for Florida. Now Weather I
was saying where's the rain. Oh, we're getting rain in
some spots and it is moving all around. Cloud activity,

(01:15):
very dynamic. Today we're supposed to get a ninety percent
chance of rain with a high eighty seven right now,
seventy eight in uptown. And you're up to date on
Sunday ninety nine point one. Tell me something good. Brought
to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. This story
has such.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
A happy ending. Now here's where it started.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Willis residents hanging out in Galveston, enjoying their life. Sierra
Rodkey and her fiance Brandon Well thereby the Pleasure Pier
in Stuart Beach and she realizes she lost her engagement ring.
She's like, no, Brandon just assumes it's gone lost in

(01:56):
the water forever. Enter Clyde Longworth, who runs Galveston metal
detecting services. He used his metal detector just out doing
his thing and he finds a ring. He posted the
ring on Facebook, got lots of tags about lost rings,

(02:16):
and finally the connection is made to Sierra and Brandon.
There's a video of him returning that engagement ring to
the couple and they are beyond that's inigredible, that's so good.
I love when that happens. Producer Anthony Dany.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
We love to hear these stories, especially when it involves
Jose al Tuby, the astro second baseman stood on the
stood on the on deck circle getting ready to bat
in the top of the third in Baltimore when they
were playing recently and in attendance was eleven year old
Chris des Salvo Junior, who sat in the front row
yelling out to two bay. He yelled, if you hit
a home run, can I have your bat? So Jose
steps into the batter's box, initially takes a strike. With

(02:54):
the next pitch two by swings belt it out to
the right field for a two run. Homer crosses home play,
heads into the dugout, walks over to Chris then and
gives him the back.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
A little more about Chris. He's from Plainview, New York.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
He was in Baltimore for a baseball tournament, and as
Jose claims, Chris was the one who called the shot.
And Jose says, at the end of the day, we
played the game for the fans. We really appreciate all
the support. They came here to enjoy the game. He
was supporting me, rooting for me it felt good that
he called the homer so great job to our own
jose Al Tuobey making memories for fans wherever he goes.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Hey, you're not gonna get it. If you don't at
least ask, I'm gonna say. The worst they say is no, oh,
I love that and this Brisket and Rice on FM
five twenty nine Getting Lots of Love. Southern Living voted
it the ninth best new barbecue spot in the South.
Wait a minute, it's called Brisket and Rice. No barbecue
in the title. That's right. And the owner, Hong Tran, says,

(03:47):
people look at us and go brisket and rice.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Never thought it was barbecue until they taste it. Now
his wife Michelle helps out and his brother Pong is
the primary pitmaster. They served risket, pork ribs, all kinds
of housemaide sausage, and I'm reading the reviews. Brisket rice,
they say is a must try day.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, forget about dirty rice.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Now you can find it at thirteen one one one
FM five twenty nine. Again, it's called Brisket and Rice.

hashtag National Dog Day. And we're talking about our childhood dogs.
Such great memories that dogs have given us. Now we've
got Rachel. You call it in from Southwest Houston, a
high school English teacher.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
And Rachel, what is your dog story?

Speaker 4 (05:06):
So, actually, my little daughter is in the car with me.
Her name is Starling, Hi, Starling. So she wanted to
call about our doggie that we just got a month ago. Actually,
so it's her first doggie.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Oh my gosh, Well, Starling, tell us about your doggie?

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Do I tell him star she's a little shy, going four.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Translate, you can speak for star So.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Our new puppy, Mirah We got her from park and
I told the children they could not have a puppy
because puppies are so much hard work. But they talked
me into it, and this dog just stole their heart.
They wanted to name her Miracle, and we shortened that
to Mira, and it turned out just a real mirror
because you know, they said, it's a miracle, mom, let
us get a puppy. It turned out to be a
real miracle because we discovered a couple of days in

(05:53):
that this dog could not walk right. Oh, we were yes,
we were just so worried and we didn't know if
we could keep her. But we forged ahead and we
got her medicine at the vet and watched her and
watched her. She had she got stuck in her chinnel.
It was just a lot that happened. And so just
about a week and a half ago she suddenly started

(06:13):
improving and she can walk and run and play just
like a normal puppy. Now. Oh it is, and the
kids are beside themselves and they love her, and Starling,
what do you say about Mira your best friend?

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Wow?

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yeah, you know it is.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
You know that the whole difference of National Dog Day
to get families to do exactly what you did. Talk
about it the responsibility of a dog. Maybe research breeds
that would be good for your family, or get.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
A rest dog.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
But you didn't realize that there's going to be this
extra twist to the story.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
We did not, and you know we say she is
really our miracle puppy. You know, we know that we
saved her life. She would not have made it at
work because they don't have the resources to take care
of puppies who need extra, that extra care. So we
just felt that we were able to give her that
and now she can stay with us.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Use that.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Thank you so much for sharing, and Star, you'll be
a good dog mommy.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Okay, okay, bye bye.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
You guys have a great day at school.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Thank you.
