What a story and hitting kind of close to home
for us. It was December nineteen fifty. It was right
when one of the Korean War's most infamous battles took
place at the Chosen Reservoir. This is among the frozen
mountains of North Korea. Chinese troops surrounded American forces, including
at the time seventeen year old Army corporal Albert Estrada.
He never came home, and for more than seventy years,
his sister Ruth never stopped wondering what happened. Back in
(02:58):
twenty eighteen, there was a breakthrough and diplomacy. North kore
ended up returning fifty five boxes of remains to the US.
Albert was not among these, though another seven years has
to go by, and then finally Ruth gets a call
from the Department of Defense Dane. She gets the news
she's been wanting. They say, we finally found your brother's remains.
They actually identified him through DNA. Ruth just breaks down
crying so unbelievably happy. They told Ruth he would finally
(03:21):
be coming home after all these years. A sister getting
some closure for her brother and his service to our country.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
And Sophia, who is our receptionist here at iHeartMedia, that
is her family member, and they're all going to be
going there together.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Unbelievable to kind of have a memorial service. What a homecoming?
Isn't that incredible? Wow Ease.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
And then there's a principal at Mansfield ISD. High School
who is going viral because of what he did for
all four hundred and forty three of his graduating seniors.
His name is Jason Mutterer, also known as Coach mutt
He's a principal at Summit High School in Arlington. He
was mowing his when he got this idea to personal
(04:03):
note to every single senior and tell them how the
important they were to him and the school. And he
got that idea because he got a note from one
of his teachers many years ago. Several things he said,
stay in touch, best of luck, Andrea, thank you for
being an important piece of our girl's track program. Another one,
thank you so much for your leadership.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Well, the students were.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
So touched, and he actually tucked a dollar bill into
each one of those notes. They could keep it, or
they can pay it forward and do something.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
You know they're going to remember that forever.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Year.
