Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Roy West Show.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm your host, Zach Styles, and boy do we have
a great show for you today on News Talk five
sixty KLV. I coming at you ever is Sunday, and
you know, just come out of the gate with a bang.
We have got Amanda Yarbro. She is the director for
the Beaumont Children's Museum. I have the esteemed privilege of
(00:27):
serving on the board of the children Museum, and I
tell you what, it is an absolute delight to get
to hang out with Amanda and get to learn and just.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Understand everything that I get to understand.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
And I'm excited about today's show because you too are
gonna get to just listen to the amazing things going
on right here in Southeast Texas.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Amanda, welcome to the show.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Thank you so much, Sack. I am always happy to
be joining you guys and tell a little bit more
about what the Beaumont Children's Museum is up to. We
constantly stay busy for our Southeast Texas guests and are
traveling guests, so I welcome everybody to come by and
see what we're up to at the Children's Museum.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah, and I you know, you do such a good
job over there, and you do a great job of
just you know, shouting from the rooftops everything that y'all
are doing. But just real quick aside. Most people don't
know that when people are traveling to Beaumont, what is
the number one thing they're searching for.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
The number one thing searched for when people are traveling
and stopping in Beaumont is a place for the kids
to play and to stop, and so they usually search
children's museum or museums.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
And the great thing.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
About it is because of that we see a lot
of road travelers. People are coming through stay hi and
want to stop and literally stretch their legs and come
hang out. So it's really great. So not only are
we sharing this with our local families, but also people
from all over the place that we get to chat
and visit with, which is huge.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
And being located downtown give the ability for people to
come see our beautiful city and get to hang out
and let their kids run around wild or maybe while
they you know, also get to stretch their legs and.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Learn something too.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Because you know the children museum, you mean that there's
stuff for adults and kids.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
That's why I love to go in there.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Like planes. I like to shoot those off. I mean,
it's so much fun. So what do we have coming
down the pipe this spring? Kind of going into the summer.
I know it's a busy time for y'all.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Hit me well, I will say this upfront is it
does take a village. So I'm not doing this by myself.
I have a fantastic staff and group of volunteers from
our board, of our directors, and also a lot of
Lamar students who who come help and fill in at
the museum in so many different ways. So this is
a village approach to make our museum very successful. So
(02:53):
what we have coming up during the school year, we
have our toddler program, And what we do is we
have peer play and also side by side learning for
our toddlers here in Southeast Texas every Wednesday morning, and
we open up at nine am and the program starts
around nine forty five till about eleven o'clock. It is
(03:14):
open door play. So when they go into the back classroom,
those toddlers, they're not going to stay in one place.
The promise they don't. So the idea is we want
to get them used to structured play or what we
call peer play where they're playing side by side. And
the idea is we have structured activities that are based
upon story time, crafts for toddlers, science for toddlers, and
(03:37):
then of course the favorite for everybody, music and movement.
And so our fantastic staff member, miss Mia does that
every Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
It's her favorite program and.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
She loves her babies. And we are encouraged multiple age
ranges infant through our toddlers five years of age to
come into this because the infant's watching and listening. It's
important for them to see these different things happening in there.
And as they grow and develop and learn, they also
themselves will want to be a part of that as
they start stretching their legs in their arms. So bring
(04:09):
them all, bring the group, come hang out. It is
only three dollars for the child and that is the
additional extra costs. It's museum entry which is five, but
just for the child. The toddler is three dollars to
help us cover supplies, and that is every Wednesday, and
we start around nine forty five, but the doors open
(04:29):
at nine and we go to about eleven o'clock. That's
our first one.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Cool that's awesome.
Speaker 5 (04:35):
I love that you you know, I think that sometimes
folks they think, Okay, well maybe I don't have a
kid that fits in the right age group whatever, But
I mean that's literally infant to five years old.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
So that's incredible, so excited about events.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
And it's really funny because some of the parents start
bringing them, you know, when they're just now rolling around,
and we're we encourage that, and we also do encourage
them if they want to come stick their head in
and check out the toddler program because maybe that's something
they want to do the next time they come. We
are completely flexible and we want to make sure that
there are lots welcome for our toddler programming Toddler takeover,
(05:12):
and it is truly Wednesday morning toddler takeover, you know
because you see the little ones running around and it's
so funny, Iszach, because we actually have so many of
the little ones that run into the office to come
say hi to us. It's really cute, like it's the
sweetest thing ever, and so we enjoy Wednesday mornings.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah for sure.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Well great, So that has your infant to five year
old toddler folks covered.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
What else do you got.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Going, so also on Wednesdays, but sometimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We have our homeschool programming during the school year, and
that is great because that kind of catches all of
our kids in the homeschool programs in South East Sex's
from kindergarten all the way up to eighth grade. So
we have our homeschool workshops that includes kids from that
(06:01):
kindergarten to fifth grade level within their homeschool programming and
they come every Wednesday. Usually there is a series of
programs that happen within a theme that goes about seven weeks.
So right now they're actually working on. Their focus is
Loan Star Critters and so that is the focus for
the series for this current homeschool workshops. Those are still
(06:24):
open for registration if people want to join, and it
is twelve dollars per workshop, so I welcome people to
go on our website and check that out. But that's
not the only program we have for our homeschoolers. We
also have our homeschool Hangouts. Hangouts are for the older
ones and those are six, seventh and eighth graders and
(06:45):
sometimes we have let some fifth graders in there depending
on what they're kind of interested in we let them,
and those are really focused on a lot of technology
and robotics. That's the focus of those particular areas, and
we try to do the higher level. Of course, they
are a little bit more mature, but trust me, they
(07:05):
are some of the most eager and curious people and
they really really we love these groups of kids that
are coming in and they're the one that comes brings
us the ideas of what they would like to see
in our programs. So it really helps us thrive in
focusing on what they're wanting us to see. And then
we have a new homeschool that will be so we
(07:27):
had some requests from parents. Parents wanted to see we
have our weekly things, but they're like, well, what if
you could do something that's a little bit more in depth.
So we have some different homeschool short series and it'll
be three days for two hours, two hours on a Tuesday,
two hour hours Wednesdays, and two hours on the Thursdays.
(07:49):
Those are coming up, and we found that the younger
group wanted to dive deeper into technology and robotics like
our older hangout group was doing. And so because these
different topics can be very much week long conversations. We
needed some extra time in there, so that's where these
shorter series came from. That we'll be hosting and getting
(08:11):
started here this spring for the first time, so we're
looking forward to that to bringing those and those homeschool
kids Labs is what we're calling them, will be focused
truly on the robotics and technology subject matters, but really
diving deep into those over three day periods for them
(08:33):
to learn and to be able to dive into the
VEX technology and different robotics. We're super excited about those.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Wow, that is awesome and I keep hearing you know,
science and robotics and things like that. Being able to
immerse themselves and be involved in that at such a
young age and that those tools are there at the
museum is just so cool, Like.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Yes, and we want to make sure because we also
have a lot of these tools that are available to
teachers to check out. So if a teacher wants to
showcase these different tools and activities, we have classroom sets
that one could be rented out for you to come
hang out or get and take to your classroom for
a few days or two. Let us bring a staff
(09:14):
person there who can bring with the instructions and know
what to do and to hang out with you in
your classroom. So not only do we invite y'all to
come to the museum, but we also say, hey, let
us come hang out with you in your area and
help enhance your classroom. So there's so many things that
we provide that people are just not aware of quite yet.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Well that's why you're here today on the Royal West Show,
so that we can get the word out there because
and it's all on your website. There's so many things
that y'all are doing. Man, we have so much to
cover in so little time. I feel like this every time.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
So let's jump into spring break camp camps.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
So, yes, we have spring break Camp which will be
the week of the March eleventh, so day through Friday
will be open to children's first grade through fifth grade.
You guys can all sign up for individual days or
a full week, whatever is best for you and what's
available for you. And the subject matter is under the seat,
(10:15):
so under the sea, and I actually requested, so I'm
hoping they'll do that this year. But they'll get an
ill and they'll have to dissect no, not an ill,
a squid and then they'll be able to type write
with one of the feather pins with the ink from
the squid. They did that one year and I had
so much fun.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Because I got to participate.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
So then right after camp is done, we will also
at the end of and during that timeframe, we will
also be releasing our summer camp schedule. So not only
sign up, be watching for our summer camp programs that
will be released in that timeframe.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Man, so much going on, but this is what it's
all about. Folks, right here and to Texas.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Your kid has no excuse to be bored this spring
this summer. I'm telling you there's no excuse. And it's
great educational quality stuff. I mean, I'm telling you you
would be blown away. If you haven't been in the museum,
you need to go. So we only have thirty seconds
left to man it. So where can people learn more?
Speaker 3 (11:20):
So check out our website Beaumont Children's Museum dot org,
or you can just give us a call four oh
nine three four seven seven nine one nine. But of
course social media is also another way. These different things
will help provide all the information, schedules and calendars that
you need for what's happening at the Children's Museum.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Awesome, Okay, real quick, we have like zero time, but
I want to make sure we hit it. Talk to
me about the Steam grants all Region five teachers.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Like ten seconds, really quick.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
We're excited. We're in the middle of releasing our winners
for our Steam grants for all Region five teachers. But
remember these grants open up to all teachers as of
August first, when the new school year happens, So remember
y'all all can apply.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
All right, perfect team, We got more coming, Amanda, You're
the best.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Thank you so much, Boat children Museum The Welcome back
to the Royal West Show. I'm your host, Zach Styles.
We've had a great show so far and we are
gonna keep it going with the one and only Erica
Foust and doctor Dwayne Augustine couple number five Dancing with
(12:30):
the Stars.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Welcome to the show. Erica, how are you today?
Speaker 6 (12:35):
I'm great, I'm super excited to be here and talk
about everything good.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
And Dwayne, how are we doing? Fantastic?
Speaker 7 (12:42):
Zach, I'm great, man, it's good to be here and.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Well, you know, Beaumont, Southeast Texas.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
We're all excited for you and the amazing dancing skills
that y'all are gonna hit us with on March seventh.
It's gonna be lights out, folks. You gotta be there
March seventh, Dance with the Stars. Erica, Before we jump
into Dancing with the Stars, tell me a little bit
about yourself on what you do here in Southeast Texas.
Speaker 6 (13:07):
Yeah. So, I'm from Southeast Texas, Orange originally, and have
been in Beaumont for the better part of over a
decade now, and I own CrossFit Beaumont and Crossit in
the county. So changing lives through fitness.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
So yeah, nice, very cool CrossFit. You know, it's incredible. Then,
and if you have questions after the show, call Erica
look her up on Facebook and she can hook you.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Up with some CrossFit you know information. So awesome. Dwayne.
How about you, man, what do you do here in
Southeast Texas?
Speaker 7 (13:40):
Hey, Zach, I'm superintendent of schools at Hampshire and net
I State, been an educator for twenty eight years, born
and raised in Southeast Texas and just looking forward to
the night.
Speaker 8 (13:51):
Man.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I love that just two homegrown, you know, heroes giving
back to their community. Erica is teaching these kids that
Dwayne's you know, kind of teaching how to be fit.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Dwayne's racing up with the knowledge. So I just love it.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Y'all are like the dream team of knowledge and making
yourselves better here in Southeast Texas.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
So very cool. That's a couple number five for you folks.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
All right, So, Erica, have you are you familiar with
dancing with the Stars? Have you ever been interested in
it before? What made you say yes?
Speaker 6 (14:25):
I have always heard about it, seeing people doing it,
and one of my older athletes is part of the
junior league and last year, the week after performance said, Erica,
I think you would be great at this if.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
You got asked would you do it?
Speaker 6 (14:40):
And I was like, oh, probably, And then a couple
months go by and I get an emailed that's like
thank you for saying yes. I was like, oh gosh,
I did say yes, did I? But of course at
that point I was already you know, sold on doing
it and really excited to be able to be embossed.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
That's how it gets you too, right, Yeah, great your organization.
But like if you said two years ago, all of
a sudden you might get that email. So folks, you know,
be careful what you say out there. Dancing with the Stars.
But it's a great organization, Junior League of bow Mint.
It's their biggest fundraiser in the year and they raise
lots of money. It's such an incredible just production that
they do. Dwayne, what made you say yes to Dancing
(15:19):
with the Stars.
Speaker 7 (15:21):
It's funny you asked, Zach because this is this is
a Royal West show.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
I watched Royal West.
Speaker 7 (15:27):
I saw Blurt when he did Dance with Stars a
couple of years ago, and I went and he's got guts.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
I'd never do that.
Speaker 8 (15:34):
I was.
Speaker 7 (15:37):
I'm involved with organization called Youth Leadership South East Texas
and we work with high school kids all across Southeast Texas.
We do community service projects. This year's chair, Megan Mystick,
is part of that effort. She's been for several years now,
and so when she asked for me to participate, it
was kind of hard to say no. Knowing what the
(15:57):
Junior League does and we've both been involve in these
sort of community service projects that really just benefits South
East Texas.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
So how do you say no to that? Even when
you're scared?
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Man, I like your attitude. Yeah, how can you say
no to the Junior League Beaumont. I mean, they do
so many things in so many different organizations that people
don't even know about, and they're making a big difference
right here in the Golden Triangle. Erica, So does your
CrossFit training? Does that translate to amazing dancing skills.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
It's a little unfair because I've been dancing since i
was four. I cheered in college and so I've got
a little bit of training under my belt. I would
say that it's definitely making the dancing easier to get
back into, that's for sure. Because like last night we
had our in person interviews and we finished. Someone that
(16:55):
was there was like, yep, that's cardio for you, and
I was breathing hard and I was like up. I
mean it's a full, it's a full, we're gut in itself.
So I would definitely say it helps, that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Yeah, awesome, We're good.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Uh, Dwayne, So, how how is it going? How are
you feeling? Are you are you loving it?
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Are you? Are you a master dancer?
Speaker 7 (17:18):
Erica mentioned the cardio, Zach, you know, I've been pretty
good on the cardio, so that that hasn't been a
problem at all. It's it's keeping up with the counts. Man,
it's the steps, and so she's helping me with that.
Our choreographer Faran is helping me with that. And so
I'm just not a dancer. So I'm gonna put my
best foot forward, so to speak, and what we'll see
(17:40):
I go.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Dwyane, all right, you gotta repeat after me. I am
a dancer. Okay, you gotta tell yourself out.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
My man, you're gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
It's gonna be incredible. And you mentioned your instruction instructor,
farn So I'll give a shout out to Farren.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Okay. I like Farren. She's amazing, She's awesome. The only
okay is that she.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Instructed Lee Potter last year and Sean Locke, and you
know Lee, I mean, he's not much of a dancer
and it kind of showed, you know.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
So I mean, yeah, if Farren didn't have.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Much to work with when it was him, So hopefully
you know, y'all take construction better than Lee did.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
I'm just saying so no, but I'm just kidding. I
love far and she's great people. She does an amazing job.
What's the name of her studio I can't remember, or
she with the studio.
Speaker 6 (18:33):
We've actually been practicing it downtown Fitness, so I'm not
sure if that is to a studio.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Okay, cool, Yeah, she's incredible, the incredible dancer. She actually
got to step in a little bit last year. So
it was just really neat being a part of it
seeing her so good.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Well, so y'all are couple number five?
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Okay, and y'all are going to be after intermissions, So
after you've had a great performance of maybe some not
so good dances, you can be guaranteed number five is
gonna come at you hard, come at you heavy. They're
gonna be good. Now, are y'all doing I know y'all
can't tell me too much, and I understand that and
I respect that, but I mean, are y'all doing like
(19:17):
multiple songs? One song?
Speaker 1 (19:19):
I mean.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
I think the extent of what you get before the
performance is gonna be there's a lot of energy, okay,
And if you know far and.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
You know that's a given.
Speaker 6 (19:34):
So I'm just gonna say that if they're looking for
an exciting routine and a lot of energy that's gonna
be given, then for sure, nice.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Very good. So Dwayne, now this much street? So are
you are you married? Duane, I am you are okay?
Speaker 2 (19:51):
So has your Is your wife a dancer? Is she
gonna expect some dancing in the future. Now that you
kind of let the cat out of the bag.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
I'm gonna be expected not to be a letdown.
Speaker 7 (20:03):
So so so no pressure, no pressure. But here's what
I'll say, though, Zach. Between Erica and her skills and
and her motivation, I see why she's a CrossFit instructor, right,
So it's it's heavy on energy, heavy on positivity, and
Fars doing the same thing. And so with the two
(20:26):
of them, Look, I'm gonna be pumped. I'll be ready,
and I'm gonna take that approach of we can, we
can get this stuff.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
I love it. I love it. I like it.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
You know.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
That's and that's what it takes, right, It takes a team.
It takes people around you. I was scared to death,
but I had some great people around me. You're gonna
be there. It's gonna be fine. So folks that are listening,
all right, So it is March seventh, all right? You
want to go to Junior League at Beaumont dot com.
Just google on find them on social media. You're gonna
want to go there. You're gonna want to buy tickets.
(20:58):
You're gonna want to buy a table. You're gonna want
to put it in the name of couple number five.
Stay alive. That's what you want to do. Okay, that's
what you need. You need you buy a table and
you want to be there. This is one of the
hottest events in all of Southeast Texas and whoever whichever
couple raises the most money gets the coveted mirror ball. Okay,
(21:19):
and this is a big deal, right, this is a
huge fundraising Virginia your Beaumont.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
And then there's also fan favorite that is they're gonna
be the one that gives the most votes. So the
night up.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
Okay, but folks, you want to buy your tables, all
those types of fun things.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Erica, any last final things about couple number five.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
Just that you're going to want to see it. It's
going to be great. We have great teamwork and it's
going to show that night for sure.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Awesome. Duayne, hit me last big thing about couple number five.
Speaker 7 (21:50):
Hey, look, just like you said, a couple five and
you buy you tables, your tickets, do it for a
couple of number five. We're we're looking for that double
double right the mirror ball and yeah, we're gonna bring it.
We're gonna bring it double out. I like it, folks.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Couple number five coming at you, Eric, Dwayne, Thank y'all,
so much more to come on The Roy West Show.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Thanks for being on the show.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Welcome back to the Roy West Show. I am your host,
Zach Styles.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
We've had so much fun today and we're just gonna
keep it going on this Sunday. I'm sure it's just
beautiful outside and amazing, and we have just really focused
on some cool people earlier in the show and now
we're gonna do the same thing with the one and
only Crystal Sanchez and Devin Brack Couple number six, Dancing
(22:43):
with the Stars.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Welcome to the show. How are we doing today?
Speaker 9 (22:45):
Crystal doing awesome, So I'm glad to be here. Thanks
for having us.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Fantastic. Devin, how you doing today?
Speaker 2 (22:53):
I'm doing great, man, Thanks for asking good. Glad to
have y'all on the show. So we're just gonna jump
right into it, folks. Crystal, tell me a little bit
about yourself. What do you do here in Southeast Texas?
Speaker 9 (23:08):
So my name is Crystal Sanchez, and I am a
Southeast Texas native. I like to refer to myself as
a Princess of the Golden Triangle.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
I was born and raised in.
Speaker 9 (23:23):
Orange, and I have worked in Beaumont my pretty much
my entire career, and I live in Portant Ages, so
I've got all three stops on the Triangle.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
I work at for Christas.
Speaker 9 (23:37):
My office is at Saint Elizabeth, but I support all
of Christa's facilities.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
I work in human resources, and I'm.
Speaker 9 (23:44):
Also the Junior League active representative for this year's cast.
I'm also really active with local community theater. I do
shows several times a year with Beaumont Community Community Players
and their little Yes.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
So I'm really really excited. The stage is nothing new
to me.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
That's so cool.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
I just recently got asked to serve on the Beaumont
Community Players Board of Directors, so I actually have my
first meeting coming up with them, and I'm super excited
about it.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
So very cool.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Yes, well, so yeah, the dancing to you is just
like another day at the office.
Speaker 9 (24:26):
Well, I mean not really. You can see behind me.
This isn't a studio more. My day job is not
dancing at all. But it's certainly something I'm comfortable with
and can't wait.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
It's fun. It's fun. We can't wait for everybody to
see what we're working on.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Awesome, Well, good, fantastic, Devin. Talk to me, man, what
do you do here in Southeast Texas? Telling me a
little bit about yourself.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
I'm also a Southeast Texas native.
Speaker 10 (24:55):
I was born and Port Author, grew up in Nearland,
graduated from there, moved on, joined the Navy, came back,
and now I live in Lumberton.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
I have a wife and a little girl.
Speaker 10 (25:06):
I've been coaching in the community. I've been coaching CrossFit
for about twelve years now. So I've been in mid County.
I've been in Beaumont, I've been in Lumberton. Some of
the same brother sister, Jim, so I've been in that
community quite a bit. What I did for work is
I worked for Oamont Fire and EMS. I've been there
eight years.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
I love the job.
Speaker 10 (25:25):
It's a great community and I'm excited to be here.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Good. Well, that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Thank you for your service both in the military and
our fire department.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
And so, you know, it's interesting. So Christal, there's a bunch,
there's a nice kind.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Of Orange, people from Orange with this year's you know,
Dancing with the Stars group. I talked to just a
couple earlier, and Erica Faustus from Orange, I believe, and.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
So and she also here.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
And the crazy thing is she's super like CrossFit, right,
So I don't you probably know Eric.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
I've coached with her for years.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Yeah, yeah, well good, well maybe we can get a
little friendly rivalry going on here.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Yeah. I like it. That's awesome. That's crazy. How that like,
that's Beaumont for you though, right, I mean.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
I know everybody.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Yeah, I love our community. Yes, yes, we'll good.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Well Crystal, back to you, why did you say yes
to Dancing with Stars?
Speaker 9 (26:38):
So for me, it was a very easy yes. I
know a lot of people they are like, oh, you know,
I had to be begged, had to you know, it
was a favor I was doing for someone I cannot
relate with that at all. I have been begging to
be on the Dancing with the Stars cast for the
longest time. The event itself is the reason why I
(27:00):
joined Junior League. I worked on the Dancing with the
Stars committee as a stage manager and helping backstage, and
I was just like, I have to be a star,
like I have to, like, I can do this, and
I am so fortunate to have been selected for this year,
and I just hope to make everybody proud. So I
can't relate with people that are like, oh, I didn't really.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Want to do it. No, that was the easiest yes
of my life.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
I love the enthusiasm and I think that's so cool
that you were just like ready to jump in. And
what a kind of Cinderella story with you know, Junior
League of Beaumont and why you got involved in Junior
League and now look at you. You're gonna be performing
in front of thousands of people and it's gonna be amazing.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
No pressure, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
Yeah, no pressure. I did it. I could speak from experience.
It was great.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
One of the best experiences of my life. So I
tell people all the time easy yes for me too.
By the way, So cool, Devin, Why did you say yes?
Speaker 10 (28:01):
Well? I had to figure out really what it was.
They gave me some reference of you know, what it
entelled and who who had done it before, and I
knew a couple of the people.
Speaker 8 (28:12):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (28:12):
And the first thing they said was is for an
awesome calls giving back to the community, which is something
I'm obviously very familiar with.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Uh, And I was like, this would be super cool.
And I can't dance. I'm not a very good dancer.
Speaker 10 (28:24):
I'm beyond grateful to have been given this opportunity and
have Crystal as my partner to just carry the load
and me on her back.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
So whatever, No, Devin's doing plenty as well.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Like it. Even that's awesome. We're good. Hyeah, a lot
of new things. I can't really give you any dance moves.
I don't know the names of some of the stuff
that we're doing. Uh, but it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Yeah, that's awesome. Well good, So who who is y'all's
dance instructor?
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Crystal?
Speaker 9 (29:00):
We are with Ashlands, which I'm so excited. I know
people probably think, oh, she's the junior league girl, she'd
probably get toever I want.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
No, that's not how it was at all.
Speaker 9 (29:11):
Like I was just happy to be here, happy to
be in the experience, and but you know, going to
the event for a long time and helping out, I've
always admired Ashland's work and their choreography, and so yes,
we got Ashlan's and so we're working with Amanda Cogswell
and Leanne Cox. There are two choreographers and they're absolutely fantastic.
(29:33):
They've been so lovely to work with and just kind
of meeting us where we're at and then pushing us
when we need to be pushed. It's they're really good, awesome.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
That's so cool to hear.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
And they've been involved I think from the beginning they have.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Yeah, I think they're huge supporters of Junior League and
they seem to always have. They are instructors and things
like that, so that is fantastic. So, Devin, you said
you can dance. I don't know that. I know, so
I believe you. I know you're obviously coordinating, fit and
all the things.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Is there any I think I think probably the whole
world wants to know. Is there any crossover from being
a firefighter to dancing skills?
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Absolutely?
Speaker 10 (30:15):
I mean you got to be able to put yourself
in different situations and manipulate your body. And I'm lucky
enough to be flexible from some of the job. I
think it really helps. And I'm also in shape too,
so that that's a that's a big thing too, being
on your feet and doing the stuff that we're not
used to doing. It really helps out that I'm in
shape for that.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Yeah, well good, So there you have it, folks, being
a firefighter can equate to being a fantastic game.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
I like it. So that's a plug for firefighters. You know,
if you need a reason to be a firefighter, you
could be a better dancer.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
So there you go, Booth, Well good, So y'all are
a couple number six, right?
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Yes? Correct?
Speaker 2 (30:58):
So you want people to vote with their dollars and
buy tables and do all the things right.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
In a couple number six's name, So you know, the
winner of the mirror.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Ball is all about the dollars raised fan favorite is
all about the night of folks, if you're just now
joining us, just wanted to kind of just throw that
out there. So when you go to Junior Leau Beaumont's website,
you need to be thinking a couple number six.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
That's right, fire man theater, fire like all that.
Speaker 9 (31:34):
We're definitely rolling with the fire theme. So our color
is read a lot of our songs are fire themes,
so we're leaning all the way into it. So think fire,
think six.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
I don't know, all right, Yeah, like fire engine number six,
I mean, I don't know, I don't know what we're doing.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
We got this well, folks.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
A couple number six, Devin Brack, Crystal sandsch As, thank
you both so much for being on the show.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Any last words about a couple number six.
Speaker 9 (32:08):
I mean, I'm not gonna have the rivalry that you
had last year, Zach, I am not. I'd rather just
leave it out on the floor and love speak for itself.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Perfect Well, good couple number six, folks.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Thank y'all both so much for joining me today, and
we look forward to March seventh.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Talk to y'all soon. Nate, thank you so much. Thank you.
Welcome back to the Royal West Show. This is Zach Styles,
your host.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
We've had a great show so far and we're gonna
keep it going with the one and only Mike Simpson
at the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. Mike, y'all are
always doing such great things at the Chamber, just within
our community, bringing awareness to small businesses. Mike, I know
you've got some exciting things to talk about, so let's
(32:57):
just jump right in.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
What do y'all have coming up?
Speaker 8 (33:00):
On February the thirteenth, we have our Economic Development luncheon
and our industry Expo at Ford Park. So the luncheon
will run from eleven to one. It's a little different
format this year. We actually have four the plant managers
(33:21):
and industry executives that will be having a forum for
this luncheon, and the forum will cover things like the
economic economic impact that their businesses have in Southeast Texas
carbon capture. And there's still plenty of tickets and tables
(33:43):
available if someone wants to join us.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
You know the cool thing about that, Mike, is you're
going to have these industry leaders all in the same room,
you know, talking about what's going on.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Within the oil and gas industry right now.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
It looks like here you've got Carrie Phillips there, Cody Mace,
Bobby Tuffer. You're gonna also have somebody from x on there.
So you know, folks, if you're out there and you're
involved in any of these, you know, types of businesses,
this is going to be a great opportunity for you
to hear it from the experts and learn a little
bit more about maybe what the forecast is for our
(34:20):
area for twenty twenty five, which this is a great
time to be looking at that as a business. And
then also there's a lot of questions out there, Mike
about carbon capture and kind of what that is. So
I mean, what better place to learn what it is
than from the experts themselves. I mean, I know every
(34:42):
single one of these plant managers are folks that's going
to be there, is going to have insight on that
carbon capture and what it is. So you know, what
I've seen is there's been a lot of misinformation out there,
and I think this might be a good opportunity for
people to learn what it is and even potentially ask
some questions and get to know some of the folks
(35:03):
that are actively involved in that. Mike, who's going to
be providing the food? Because I know that's always important
to people.
Speaker 8 (35:10):
Yeah, and so this is a we're calling it a
hybrid event because not only will we have Frankie frid Zizi,
who is the chef there at Ford Park, but Blue
Bruce Ord seventeen oh one Barbecue will be joining us,
and then Corville's will be joining us, and so Blues
(35:31):
with seventeen oh one is providing briskets and bean Corville's
is going to have a chicken and rice gumbo and
banana pudding and then Ford Park will fill in the rest.
And I know I was visiting with Frankie the chef
last week and he's all excited about this pork chop
(35:54):
that he's going to be providing. And then so you'll
have your choice. You can go through all three lines
you want to do it nice.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
So folks, you know, come out.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
It's gonna be Thursday, February thirteenth from eleven to one,
this Economic Development Launch, and you're gonna get fed.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
It's gonna be a.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Great time just to learn and kind of understand what's
coming down the pipe in our area with these industries. Mike,
where can folks reserve tables and buy tickets for this?
Speaker 8 (36:25):
So they can either go online to BMTCOC dot org,
which is the chamber website, and you can register online there.
You can call us here at the Chamber four O
nine eight three eight six five eight one, or they
can email me Mike Simpson at BMTCOC dot org.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Perfect, So folks go there. Those are all the ways.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
It's very easy to get in touch with Mike and
the Chamber to be a part of this event. So, Mike,
so you talked about the Economic Development launching from eleven
to one.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
What is second part of that day look like.
Speaker 8 (37:02):
So beginning at one o'clock, we have an industry expo,
and this is approximately seventy local businesses from Exxon to
vectorl to Mason Construction, Neo Construction interged. Like I say
about seventy major industry. It's free to the public. There's
(37:25):
a number of things that go on there. Del Papa
has a cornhole tournament going on and if the general
public wants to come in and play with cornhole, then
it's thirty dollars feet. Something new that we're doing this
year is we're donating a portion of the proceeds that
(37:45):
we raide to scholarships through l T and then also
through the ABC Training Center. So right now it looks
like it'll be somewhere around five thousand that will be
donating to help young people coming up to if they
want to get into an energy job or welding, you know,
(38:10):
an operator. Here's some great opportunity will be coming through
our econom mean our industry expo.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Yeah, well, so that's going to be a full day.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
So folks, you really ought to you come for the
Economic Development lunch and you know, get full and then
you know, work off all that wonderful food walking around
the expo center there from one o'clock to five pm.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
You know, that's one thing that I love.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
About the Chamber providing these opportunities for people to come.
There's no cost for the expo from one pm to
five pm. If you're wanting to connect with over seventy
seventy industry contractors, vendors, and suppliers, this is the place
to be, folks. You're gonna want to be there if
you have questions. Mike is always there to answer questions.
(38:59):
You can always reach them at four zero nine eight
three eight six five eight one order to shoot him
an email at Mike Simpson at BMTCOC dot org.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Mike.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
So, there's gonna be a core hole tournament that Del
Pop is putting on. So, folks, if you want to
have just a great full day of food and learning
and a little bit of fun, this is the place
to be on February thirteenth, Mike, any last things to
kind of bring up about the event.
Speaker 8 (39:25):
Yeah. The other thing is that those seventy booth all
have door prizes that they donate, and so there's lots
of door prizes people can win awesome.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
So what I'm hearing is great food, great information about
things that are impacting our community, and then you get
to walk around this expo and potentially win prizes.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
I mean that sounds like a great day to me. Mike.
It's good. It's always a good time.
Speaker 8 (39:53):
This is our fourth one and we're wanting to make
the fifth one even bigger and better.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Perfect.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
I'm looking forward to the event, Mike. Folks Again, Mike Simpson,
Beaumont Greater Chamber of Commerce right here four zero nine
eight three eight six five eighty one. Call on with
any questions that you may have, shoot them an email. Mike,
