Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Royal West Show.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm your host, Zach Styles on News Talk five sixty KLV.
I super excited for today's show. We have some amazing
guests and we are going to kick it off with
Terry and Lee Potter with American Air Systems. Just two
lovely folks that are here to talk about an amazing,
(00:25):
wonderful It's not an event, it's.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
A what is it, Lee, It's a.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
It's our community awareness campaign. It's where we are able
to give back to Southeast Texas and we're so excited
to do it.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
And you know, y'all been doing this for seven years now,
so this is the seventh year from Mare Air Cares.
And Lee, if you don't mind, would you just kind
of go into maybe how did this idea? I mean
this giving away an ac unit? I mean, how did this?
How did it start?
Speaker 5 (01:01):
Okay, it's pretty simple.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
So I'd say eight years ago, you know, we're going
along doing our things and then this person right here
next to me says, hey, we need to start being
community aware. We need to do something for our community
because they take care of us.
Speaker 6 (01:19):
And I was like, well, what do you want to do?
Speaker 5 (01:20):
And she goes we're gonna give away an air conditioner.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
And I went, well, she pumped the brakes a little bit,
and she goes, no, I got this. She goes, reach
out to our distributor, reach out to carrier, see if
they'll do this part. Just ask, just ask, And I said, okay,
I'll give it a shot. And so I called him
and I said, hey, you know, we'd like to give
(01:43):
away an air conditioner, you know, for somebody in our community.
And they went, oh, man, that's a great idea. Here
we go and we are in our seventh year, and man,
I tell you, it gets better and better each year.
We look forward to it. It is so much fun.
And you know, it's really nice to be able to
(02:04):
help anyone, you know how that is. It's always better
to give than receive. And and you know what a
way to do it. After what we do for our
business here, this is what we do to be able
to give this back.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Absolutely, And you know I've had the honor and privilege
to be a part of this for several years. Uh,
And it's one of those one of those things that
I always look forward to because it really is just
so cool being able to be there whenever you see
the people receive that AC unit and I mean that
(02:39):
revealed day and just to see the impact, you know,
in their lives. I mean, these are folks that don't
have a working AC unit, may not even have an
AC unit in their home, has not worked sometimes for years.
Maybe the stories you know that that you come across
and it you know, having served on the committee, have
been a part of this paign before, it's really difficult,
(03:03):
you know.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
I mean how many times have we said.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Hey, Lee, can we can we do two this year?
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Can you know maybe this year?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I mean, uh, the lives that y'all are touching, you
know with this campaign, it's so cool. So uh, you know, Lee,
talk to me a little bit about kind of the
process just you know, can anybody just sign up or
how does that work?
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Well?
Speaker 5 (03:27):
Okay, so it's pretty simple.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
And it's not about the air conditioning system that someone
might have. It's about the people that we're trying to help.
So that's that's where this is. And people get confused
on that. So thank you for letting me kind of
walk on this a little bit.
Speaker 6 (03:44):
Yeah, for the.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Guys that are out there, the families, the mom and dad, Hey,
I've lost my husband, I've lost my wife, I'm dealing
with cancer. You know, all of those things that we
deal with in life. There might be a system that
is aging that they've had multiple issues with that's not working,
you know, all of these different things. And our campaign,
(04:09):
what we're geared to is we want you the community
to think about. You know, hey, that person over there.
You know when I was younger, would bring when I
would come over and I'd get to go eat cookies
with her, and she always treated me like family. And
you know, she really that air conditioning system. I know
(04:30):
it's fixing a die. I'm going to nominate her, and
I'm going to tell the story from my own heart
so that I can lay it out so that, like
you know, when you're on the committee, you get to
read about this person and you get to understand what troubles.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
They've gone through, what battles they're fighting.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
And to be able to know that we can have
an opportunity for at least one to be able to
walk up to him and go, hey, by the way,
this air conditioning system that you have been worried about,
you don't have to worry about anymore. We're going to
professionally install it. We're gonna set the warranties on it.
(05:13):
We're going to install it better than any other company
can in this area. You are going to reap the
benefits of this. And it's just because someone took the
time to tell us your story.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
I mean I get chilled every time, you know, I
hear the story and every time you talk about it,
and even being a part of it. It's just such
a surreal experience when you get to see, you know,
just the joy and the relief you know, on these
people's faces and you get them, you really do get
to understand. And so when you're reading about these people
(05:48):
and then you get the medium, you're like, oh my god,
you just want to hug them and say, hey, you know.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
There's a lot of that.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Yeah, you're in These people are incredible and had incredible
lives and really touched our communities and crazy ways, and
it could be the neighbor down the street. So it's
really neat how that all comes to fruition.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
How y'all do it?
Speaker 4 (06:11):
So where do people go to nominate in there certain
areas that they have to live things like that.
Speaker 7 (06:17):
Yeah, so we set it up to where we cover
Jefferson Orange, Harden and Chambers counties. You have to live
within those counties. And anybody that wants to nominate someone
can go to the website a mayor air dot com,
a M E R a I R dot com and
(06:40):
click on the icon that says a Mayor air cares
and you just you can nominate that way, or you're
more than welcome to come in our office. Come to
our office either Beaumont or a Lumberton and fill out
the nomination farm there. And if you have any questions
about filling the nomination out or you're unsure, you can
(07:03):
call our office and talk with Jamie. No one here
in our office reviews the nomination forms except for except
for Jamie. She because she has to get them and
she has to redact the name and the address. So
of course when our our committee is reviewing all the
nomination forms, they don't know name our address, so it
(07:30):
is easy and you'll see a lot of We're seeing
a lot of good traction on Facebook from our committee
this year. They're doing a great job sharing it and
just keeping it out there, putting it out there. The
nomination started January thirty first, and they go through April thirtieth,
(07:52):
so you still have plenty of time. So, like I said,
anybody that you feel like is out there making a
difference and deserves a little help, nominate them. We want
as many nominations as we can.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
Get, exactly.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
The only other stipulation that we have is that person
that we're going to put the air conditioning in, they
must be the homeowner. Now what that means is that
does not mean they have to have paid the house off.
As you know, homeowner is a person who is paying
that mortgage or doing whatever. They're the homeowner. So in
those four counties, homeowner, you know what.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
That's it. That's all we got. You're anyone. For the
most part, a ton of people are eligible for this.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Yeah, And that's one thing that I just kind of
want to throw out there because a lot of times
whenever you hear something like this, right, I mean you're
giving away an ac eating and cooling unit, right. I mean,
this isn't This isn't a joke, folks, listeners, I mean,
this is real deal. I think there is just a
(09:00):
mentality of like, it sounds too good to be true,
And this is one situation in life. I promise you
it's not too good to be true. This is legit. So, folks,
if you're listening right now and you want to nominate somebody,
go to their website at AMIR dot com. Call American
Air Systems talk to anybody there. They can direct you
to the right place. You can go to their office
(09:20):
either like they said in Beaumart or Lumberton. This is
a real free AC unit.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
You know, Lee his guys are some of the best
guys in the entire area and I'll say the entire
United States as far as the team that they have together,
and they're gonna come out to the house, they're gonna
make sure it's all buttoned up and done correctly. I've
worked personally with Lee and his team. Fantastic folks. So hey,
(09:47):
if and if you're just having some AC issues, you're
getting ready for the beginning of the year, you know,
you want to give American Air Systems a call too.
I mean, that's another good thing to kind of check
out as we're getting into the summer months right around
the corner.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
So and here's so let's just talk about that because
this year's winter might actually get a R four point
fifty four B new refrigerant system.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
I mean, we're in.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Our industry is in a changeover right now, and there's
a lot of things that are questions and equipment availabilities
and things like that, and we're we're doing our part
to be diligent to make sure that we cover all
of the holes that are in the line, to try
to make sure we have things available for people.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
When they need them. But this is what's coming.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
I mean, this is our industry stays in a state
of flux, it seems like all the time, and we
have got to train, we have got to stay constant,
and we have got.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
To do everything we can.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
And in doing this giveaway the Samaria Air Cares, we
take the same aspect of that customer paying us as
we do on anything else. We're going to make sure
that that thing follows a checklist, that we've done everything
to the best of our ability, that we're going to
make sure that we have given them and anyone else
(11:07):
that deals with our company the best that we possibly
can give. And that's that's the fun part about this.
And our guys and the ladies up front, they love it.
They love this part that that we we bring everybody
out to the reveal.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
It's just it's just a heck of a time. You know,
it really is.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
It's a big party. I mean everybody, it's an exciting time.
You got family there, the people that are getting the
the AC unit and it's just really neat. How y'all's
company has just really reached out in our community, uh
and beyond really I mean Chambers, Jefferson Hardner, Orange Counties.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Folks, you're gonna want.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
To go to their website at www dot amorair dot com.
Check them out on Facebook. We Terry thank y'all so
much for being on the show. We really appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (11:53):
Oh, thank you for having us.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Yeah, hey, listen, thank you very much. Absolutely a'all. Have
a great rest of y'all's day, and we'll be back
on the Roy West Show.
Speaker 8 (12:01):
Thanks dak.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
Fo Second, there we go.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
All right, welcome back to the Roy West Show. I'm
your host, Zack Styles.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
We've had a great show so far and we're gonna
keep it going with John Manfreddy, the executive director for
Southeast Texas Stages and for you know those new listeners
formerly known as Beaumont Community Players, but it is now
off Southeast Texas Stages because for an amazing lots of
great reasons.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
But you know, folks, they go beyond Beaumont now, so
it only made sense to pull in the whole Southeast
Texas region.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
So John, welcome to the show.
Speaker 9 (12:42):
Thank you so much. Thanks for having them me and
I'm so pleased to be here.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Well, I'm excited to have you on the show, always
excited about what shows are coming down the pipe here
in Beaumont.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
So John, I'm gonna let you take it away.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
There's an exciting season that's already kind of started, and
if you'll just go into some of the oh.
Speaker 9 (13:03):
Absolutely, absolutely, yeah, we're starting. We are right now in
the final preparatory week for our production of Avenue Q,
which opens Friday night, and we're thrilled about that. That
is uh, it's it's it's a Tony Award winning play.
It is hilarious. It spoofs everything. We're also we're super
(13:25):
careful every time we talk about Avenue Q because it
is it is a spoof of Sesame Street.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
So it's got puppets, right, So.
Speaker 9 (13:32):
We want to make sure that people aren't bringing their
kids though, because this is a very r it's a
very R rated show.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
Avenue Q have adult situations.
Speaker 9 (13:40):
We have, there are some curse words we talk about.
It talks about everything, it is. It is part of
the the appeal of it is that it kind of
pokes fun at everyone, indiscriminately at and at a time
when we just need to when a time that we
just need to laugh.
Speaker 6 (13:57):
We're thrilled to bring it to everyone.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
That is awesome.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
Yeah good.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
I was just gonna say, yeah, it starts this Friday,
which you know, this show is Sunday. We're Aaron, So
you can actually go check out abnue Q from March first, seventh, eighth,
and ninth, right as well.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
Next Yeah, it's got the next two. It's got the
next two weekends. Thursday.
Speaker 9 (14:26):
The first opportunity that the audience will have to see
Avenue Q is actually our pay what you can Thursdays,
which is something new that we started this year, which
is allows you to come and see the show and
basically pay what you can. It's the minimum suggested donation
of five dollars. But you know, come on in and
you know if you give us anything and come and
see the play. We want people to come and see it.
(14:49):
And like I said, you'll laugh, you'll cry, it's you.
The people have been working really hard. One of the
reasons that I'm recording from home today is because we're
working on so the show has three video monitors in it.
Speaker 6 (15:01):
There's some video to it.
Speaker 9 (15:02):
It's a it's a high tech production and we're really
excited about it.
Speaker 6 (15:07):
And that runs for two more weekends.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
That's awesome.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Yeah, so folks, y'all get out and check it out.
If you go on a Thursday. Now, is that pay
what you can? Is that every Thursday? John, when every.
Speaker 6 (15:18):
Every second Thursday.
Speaker 9 (15:20):
Our show is run for three weekends usually, and the
second Thursday of our run you can come as a
pay what you can. Remember also the second Saturday, since
we're talking about things, the second Saturday of every production
we have is American Sign Language interpretation.
Speaker 6 (15:38):
So that's the show that you want to bring your deaf.
Speaker 9 (15:41):
Audience members to because we have that as a feature
on every Saturday matinee that we do.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Wow, that's awesome and I just love to reach y'all.
Continued to expand you know with all, Well.
Speaker 9 (15:55):
We're trying, you know, we're really you know, we're trying
to expand access to the arts for everybody. I mean,
that's why we do the work that we do in
the schools. That's one of the reasons, as you mentioned
in the intro, why we changed our name is because
you know, we're you know, we're in different places. We're
not just in Beaumont Schools anymore. So we're working all
(16:17):
across Southeast Texas, and so we're excited to do that.
We like to we like to offer a variety, a
mix of programming for our people to see as well. So,
I mean that's why we you know, we cater to
a wide group of patrons, and so we try and
give something for everyone. We talk about ourselves like a restaurant,
(16:38):
Zach as we talked about it, as said, you know,
we're gonna give you a great meal. You might not
like every dish on the menu, and maybe or maybe
a dish may not be for you, but it's gonna
be done well. You're gonna be treated great, You're gonna
have a great time. And if the dishes and for
you give your tickets to someone else, let them come
and see it, because we're gonna have something that it's
gonna be fun, you're gonna be treated right. Uh.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
And so the more people that we can get in
the building, the better.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Absolutely and the last thing I'll say on that kind
of just to take off of what you said about
being a restaurant. You know, the neat thing is you
don't you may not even know what you like, right,
So exactly, y'all season within I'm gonna let you talk
about it some more. But with the programs and the
shows that y'all have that y'all are putting on, you know,
(17:23):
I would urge people to step outside your comfort zone.
Go you know, maybe go see something you've never heard of,
walk into the theater having no idea what it's gonna
be about, you know, because who knows.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
That's I agree, where's wisdom.
Speaker 9 (17:38):
We try and provide a wide race and think that
there's gonna be something in the season that you probably
haven't seen or that you probably haven't heard. There's gonna
be something we like to We also, in addition to
all the other things we do, we have the largest
new playwright festival in Texas, uh, the Southeast Texas Festival
of New Places, which happens every August, and so we're
also promoting new work and so you're always gonna have
(17:59):
a chance to see some thing a little different. I mean,
we we it's very different. We go from Avenue q Uh.
Then we follow up right after that. We opened The
Gin Game at the end of March. The Gin Game
is a Polisher Prize winning story about two two people,
two senior citizens, and they're they're inner retirement home and
(18:22):
they bond about over playing Gin. It's like I said,
it's a fabulous play, also funny, but touching and heartbreaking
and it's it's it's a it's a lovely story. And
it opens March twenty eighth and it runs through the
through the middle of through the middle of April. They're
(18:42):
already in rehearsal for that. That takes place in our
studio theater and uh. It's a great cast people and
a first time director. So I'm excited about that. The director,
Ana Goos is a is a young woman. She's very talented.
She's been she's worked with us at an Actors she
took class with us, she's really kind of worked her
(19:03):
way up through the ranks, and she's making her directorial
debut with this show.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
So we're thrilled for that to happen. And so that's another.
Speaker 9 (19:12):
Thing that we like to do, you know, we like
to we like to empower people who like to give
people a chance to shine. Part of our jobs, as
we always thought, as our job as an organization is
not only to provide great entertainment, to provide an outlet
for those people who want to provide that entertainment for
all the local artists and things like that. So we
have kind of like a twofold mission when we get
(19:33):
to it. And so then you know that play which
is two People, which is only two people, so you
have a cast of a bunch of people and some
puppets and avenue Q to a cast of two people
in the Gin game. And then we close the season
with a big cast show, which is Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory. And we are we're getting geared up about
(19:54):
that one, as you know, because we talk all the time,
you know, as you know that you know we're we're
we we work so far are in advance, so we're
already working.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
We've been working on Charlie for a while.
Speaker 9 (20:04):
We just had our second production meeting yesterday for Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory, talking about how on stage we
make all the magic that people are going to come
to expect because they know the movie.
Speaker 6 (20:16):
Yeah, right, so.
Speaker 9 (20:16):
There are certain there are certain aspects of the of
the of the of the production that we're so thrilled
to do and to make the magic.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
And if you've seen our shows in the past.
Speaker 9 (20:27):
That you've seen us take on things like Chitty Chitty
Bang Bang, where we actually constructed and flew a car,
then you know that Charlie and the Charlie Choclaty is
going to be a lot of the same.
Speaker 6 (20:37):
It's going to be a lot of the same.
Speaker 9 (20:38):
Our audiences are looking forward to that, and that hasn't
even auditioned yet, So if people are interested in that that,
those auditions are coming up in March. So if you're
interested and you want to get on stage, or if
you have young people, because there are lots of children
in that show, right, So if you want to audition
for that, those auditions are in March March tenth, tenth, eleventh,
and twelfth, I think. And so you know mission on
(21:00):
our website, you know, come and audition. Let's put the
other play.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
Yeah, I love that, so and I think that's one
thing to touch on John.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
And our time always goes so fast. We only got
about left.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
But you know the thing of it is It's like
people don't I don't necessarily think that they appreciate and
understand what we have in our own backyard. I mean,
if you've always had that idea that you want to act,
you want to get on stage, or not even be
on stage, if you want to help with production, all
those types of things, you want to write. I mean,
y'all have outlets for all of that. I mean, somebody
can literally walk in off the street and say hey,
(21:34):
I want to do this, and y'all will help direct them.
Speaker 9 (21:36):
We have a writer Executi, right, we have a writer's group.
We have people who work on stage. We have people
who work backstage. I have people who are doing technicals,
who are doing sound, I have people who are painting.
I reached out to the artist Maurice ablement today is
if you would help me with this set. It's everything
is all connected in the arts and culture in Mount Texas,
and we've we we like, we've like we feel like
(21:58):
we're a leader in the art and cultural scene in
Southeast Texas and so you know, we're proud to be
there and that's why we're getting ready and you know
we're already working on summer and community.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
So yeah, well cool, well John, that's all our time, folks.
We've got more on the Roy West Show. John, thank
you so much for being on, and make sure y'all
get out there and check out Southeast Texas Stages and
go to their website.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
Thanks again, John, thank you.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Welcome back to the Roy West Show. I'm your host,
Zach Styles. We've had a great show so far. We're
gonna keep it going with Megan Pounders who is with
Junior League Bamont but also the co co chair for
the one program with Junior League of Bamont. Megan, welcome
to the show.
Speaker 10 (22:45):
Hey, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
We are so excited. I always love having Junior League
folks on.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Y'all do so much in the community, and y'all got
Dances with the Stars right around the corner, which is
y'alls huge fundraiser and it's just a lot of fun.
And y'all y'all make volunteering and giving money away a
lot of fun. So with that being said, what are
some of the things for maybe people that don't understand
or know what the Junior League of Beamont does. What
(23:11):
are some things that y'all are doing in our community? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (23:14):
Awesome, So we are an organization of women whose mission
is to advance women's leadership for a meaningful community impact
through our volunteer actions, our collaborations, and training. So we
just really come together. We are women on a mission
and community is our business. So we try to just
(23:35):
get our hands in everything that we can and leave
a good imprint behind us and let everybody know. You know,
we're here to help and we're here to elevate, and
we just want to really get more women in leadership
positions in the community and just stand out and leave
it a better place than we found find everything for sure.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Yeah, I mean you said it so well. It's kind
of interesting. Every time you look up, Junior League is
doing something new, something innovative, something different. There's a new
nonprofit they're involved with, or they're starting a new program
to do X, Y and Z, And you know, the
amount of hours that all of the ladies put in
is just incredible and just the dedication to not only.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Just Beaumont, but the whole Golden Triangle.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Now, I mean y'all are y'all's reach just continues to extend,
which is really cool.
Speaker 10 (24:24):
So, just coming off of the holidays, we just finished
our huge main Street market event, and like you just mentioned,
we're going into Dancing with the Star season. We just
accepted applications for our spring CAF grant and now we
are looking, you know, forward towards finding a new nonprofit
to elevate for our next Junior League season.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Awesome, so great segue. Let's talk about the one, uh
you know program that y'all have there and kind of
what y'all do and what y'all are looking for and
all that.
Speaker 10 (24:57):
Yeah, So what we're looking for is community outreach program
within the Junior League and it's called the one and
that stands for our Nonprofits Elevated. So what we do
is we are going to open up applications for all
of the nonprofits in Southeast Texas to apply, and the
Junior League wants to have a partnership with them for
(25:18):
the next twelve months. So this is a little different
than our CAF grants where we just give community financial assistance.
We are actually going to support and promote the nonprofit
that's chosen in our community with financial assistance, but also
with manpower. With our resources, we have a lot of
(25:39):
different we can support them in a lot of different ways,
but most importantly for the one is just again it's
a partnership with our committee, So we just really find
that perfect nonprofit and we just unload resources on them.
If it's our committee members volunteering, if it's education on
(26:01):
establishing a new board for them, if it's just supporting
their current board, revamping their logos, or elevating their marketing game,
we just really work alongside them for a year.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
Yeah, you know, and it was interesting before when you
jumped on the air. We're just kind of chatting a
little bit. And you know, there's so many organizations that
give money to nonprofits five O one two three's all
that kind of thing. This is kind of a different
twist on it, and that your boots on the ground,
you know, helping you know, this nonprofit for an entire year,
(26:39):
and that's just really cool. I've not heard of any
other organization. I'm sure there are, and I'm sure I
just live under a rock, but you know, this is
just a really cool thing to say. Not only are
we going to pump monetary sources in, we're gonna pump knowledge.
We're going to do whatever we need to do to
help get If it's a board, if it's employees, if
it's staffing, you know, really almost acting as a consultant, you.
Speaker 6 (27:02):
Know, with them.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
And then also if they just need volunteers, you're going
to have you know, people there to help support. That's
just really cool.
Speaker 10 (27:10):
Yeah, I mean, honestly, those were the best words, and
I haven't quite heard them used with the one yet,
but boots on the ground is so good. And consulting
it really is. You have a whole committee dedicated to
you within the Junior League that is just just help,
you know, just helping and providing just kind of an
unlimited amount of resources. Like you said, if you have
(27:33):
a big fundraiser coming up with your nonprofit, we've got
the committee, we've got the resources. We can put you
in touch with the people who can help you plan that.
This specific grant and partnership opportunity it is for smaller
nonprofits who are really looking to get more established in
our community and really utilize that partnership and the financial
(27:56):
you know, grant that comes with being chosen as the one.
Some of the ones that we've helped were the Beaumont
Farmer's Market. They were the first one in twenty twenty two.
Then we did Makeends Meet in twenty twenty three, and
currently right now we're elevating Stable Spirit, which is the
(28:17):
horse therapy out in Gross City. Yes, okay, and they're great.
All of those partners have been so great and we're
just looking towards the next future. You know that this
partnership starts early summer for our lead year, so it's
not a calendar year. So we now have applications opened
(28:37):
and the deadline is next week, February twenty fifth. So
if you're hearing this and you need some more information,
you want to head over to our website so we
can get those balls rolling for you.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Yeah, and you can go to Juniorbaumont dot org.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
You can google Junior League.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
I mean, I googled it and it's the first thing
that pops up, so very easy to find. One thing
I've always enjoyed about the Junior League is their website.
Super easy to navigate, So you just go to the
community and then you just go all the way to
bottom and click one. Our nonprofits elevated such a great name,
you know, the one you know, I mean.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Y'all do great things.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
I mean, and that in and of itself is awesome,
So imagine what they could do for you know, a
smaller five oh one C three that's trying to get
off the ground. You've got some powerhouse women that are
ready to come and put you know, bo boots on work,
do all the things that they do. And if you've
never seen or been to a Junior League event or fundraiser,
(29:35):
it's one of the most impressive things that you're going
to see, folks.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
So sure, I.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
Mean, every person knows exactly what they're supposed to do,
where they're supposed to do it, how they're supposed to
do it, and that's why y'all have such great success.
Speaker 10 (29:46):
Yeah, it's a well old machine for sure. Within the
Junior league.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
Yeah, so y'all have been around. The one's been around
since twenty twenty two. Yes, okay, cool, gotcha?
Speaker 5 (29:58):
So twenty twenty two.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Man, that's awesome, and y'all done. Y'all been involved in
those And now tell me a little bit, I know,
because you know as well the CALF Grants. When when
do you know the deadline off top of your head
for those?
Speaker 10 (30:10):
Okay, so we just wrapped up the Spring CAF Grants.
They actually reviewed everything last night, so I think their
deadline was last week.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
But everybody who.
Speaker 10 (30:21):
Applies for the one. If you were not selected to
be the one nonprofit that we elevate for this upcoming year,
you will be shifted to our fall Calf approval process
and you'll be reviewed and considered for a fall Calf grant.
So that's kind of that's a fun aspect about it.
(30:42):
It's like, you do the application for the one, and
then if you're not selected, don't worry, We're gonna shift
you over in the Junior league and you'll go up
for a review for the fall Calf grant and see
if you you know, if there's any of the ways
that we can help you in that department.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
That's really cool because then at that point you're you know,
you're you're putting yourself out there. You don't get selected,
no big deal, but you're still potentially going to get
a different type of grant.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
That's a really neat way to do that.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
And I'm looking at the application right now. I mean
it's a very straightforward application, not a lot to it necessarily.
So if you're one of those people like me and
you're like, oh, an application, I have to fill this out,
I'm telling you this is probably one of the easier
applications that you're going to be able to fill out,
and you're probably if you're a five, O, one, C
three and you're not applying, I don't know why you would.
(31:32):
So you know, there's all they can do is say, hey,
not this year, and you get the CAF grant or
you move into the CAF Grant selection and then you
apply again next year. So really cool things with the
Junior League of Beaumont, Megan, thank you so much for
being on the show again. That is at Junior League
Beaumont dot org and you just go to community and
(31:52):
you can find it right there, Megan, any last things
about the one No, Yeah.
Speaker 10 (31:57):
If you're hearing this message and you baby, are not
with a nonprofit but you're really curious about the Junior
League of Beaumont, I encourage you to find us on
Facebook because we actually have our Bring a Friend general
meeting this month also on the twenty fifth, so it's
just a great time. It's like, if you're with a nonprofit,
hop online find the one, fill out that application. If
(32:20):
you're not with the nonprofit but you're really loving what
you're hearing about the Junior League, ladies, go ahead and
find us on the website and come to that bring
a friend meeting because we'd love to talk more about
both aspects with you.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Awesome, Megan, thank you so much for being on the show.
That's all the time.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
We have more coming up on the Roy West Show
and thanks again, Megan.
Speaker 10 (32:38):
Thanks back.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
Guys, welcome back to the Roy West Show. I'm your host,
Zach Styles. We've got Sal Guerrero and Barry Behanded with
us today. They are board members for the Wulmberton ID
Education Foundation. Welcome to the show, guys.
Speaker 8 (32:57):
Thank you, thank you glad to be here.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
We love nonprofits, we love Lumberton, and we love golf.
So this is gonna be a great interview.
Speaker 8 (33:07):
You'll got to win all the way around.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
That's right, that's a win win.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
So I guess I'll just start with you, Sal, Sal,
tell me a little bit about the Lumberton is D
Education Foundation in what y'all do.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Sure, So, we're.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
There to help the district and provide for.
Speaker 11 (33:24):
Grants for innovative projects, things that aren't typically going to
be funds that are provided by the district. So just
that little bit of extra fun project that they can.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
Do, gotcha.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
So y'all provide those funds or grants, I should say
to Wumberton ID to cover some of those things that
may not normally be covered. Very when did when did
the Wumberton I is the Education Foundation get started all
that good stuff?
Speaker 12 (33:54):
You know, I don't know the beginning day, but I
know it's at least twenty years and you know, to
add to what sal said, this is a way for
us to help the teachers by granting them funds to
do something above and beyond the norm You know, we
really look at the projects very closely and make sure
(34:14):
that it's going to be something we feel the kids will.
Speaker 8 (34:18):
Absolutely get a further education with.
Speaker 12 (34:22):
It's a very good organization and very good reason for
doing it.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Yeah, I think that's great.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
You know, it's a nonprofit pulling funds together to kind
of ensure that they're able to do things above and
beyond what they would normally do, which is really pretty
neat because I know those experiences, you know, are really
important to the growth of those kiddos.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Do you have an idea? Can you tell me some
of the things that y'all have done in the past, maybe.
Speaker 12 (34:49):
You know, the golf tournament has been our biggest fundraiser forever,
but we do have a couple of smaller ones that
we do from time to time, mainly just calling some
investors and seeing if they're willing to donate some money.
Speaker 8 (35:03):
We may do some different things this year.
Speaker 12 (35:05):
I hope we do, but I don't want to get
a teaser out there and then we don't do it.
Speaker 8 (35:10):
So that's coming soon.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
I like that though. That gives the people something to
look for.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Check out y'all's Facebook page at Lumberton ID Education Foundation.
Sal tell me a little bit about the golf tournament
that's upcoming and what people can expect.
Speaker 11 (35:26):
Yeah, sure, Well, we've actually had a great start so far.
The last out look we had around thirteen team signed
up already. You can have a team for as little
as four hundred and fifty dollars. You can get a
whole sponsorship for your company for a little two hundred
dollars donation. So some great way to get some exposure
(35:49):
and to let Lumberton Education Foundation know that you support us.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Awesome.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
And as far as the golf tournament itself, that's on
April eleventh, correct.
Speaker 11 (36:01):
It's correct Friday, April eleventh, So what a great way
to get off, we're just a little bit early before
the weekend.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
Great excuse at least.
Speaker 11 (36:10):
Uh So we'll start a registration at nine.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
Tea time, will be get at ten o'clock.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
And one thing that I do want to include.
Speaker 11 (36:18):
Is with every team out there, everyone gets a free
mulligan as well. We added that in this year. If
you want to buy more, will certainly sell you more,
but everyone gets one right now as.
Speaker 5 (36:28):
An added bonus.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
Well, I know, barring, you know, I don't know, so
I don't know how much you golf, but Mulligan's to me,
I mean, I need as many as I can get.
I would just max out how many you got.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
We're good. So this is gonna be April eleventh.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Folks go to Wilmberton i S the Education Foundation to
learn more about the golf tournament and more about what
Wilmberton Ice the Education Foundation is doing right here in
Lumberton and our Golden Trump community. So you said the
golf tournament's going to be at the Country Club of Texas,
which was previously Brentwood.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
Yes, sir, that is correct.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
Okay, So you know they've been doing a lot of
things out there at that golf course. It's a great
course to play, So, folks, you're gonna want to be
a part of this. It's I mean, getting off early
before the weekend, hanging out, playing golf and everything going
to a good cause.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
I mean, it doesn't get much better than that, right.
Speaker 8 (37:26):
Very right, right.
Speaker 12 (37:28):
And the little teaser for the ladies too. You know
we're going to have if they don't play, I mean
see you with that. Uh, we're gonna have silent auction
items out there as well, and if the weather permits,
I hope we have them by the new cabana because
that thing is really nice.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
Hey, And that's a great thing to bring up there,
Barry that if you haven't been to the Country Club
of Texas, this is a great opportunity to go check
it out in the new cabanda that they have over
there and maybe get an idea of some other things
you know, you might want to do in the future
out there. So that's awesome. That's gonna be a really
good time. I'm excited for y'all, folks. Wumberton id Education
(38:07):
Foundation sou I know y'all.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Are both board members.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
Are there specific projects that y'all have done in the
past that y'all can speak to and regarding the grants
things like that.
Speaker 11 (38:19):
Yeah, there's a couple of different pictures that are again
on our Facebook page, but I do remember.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
One we did here a while back.
Speaker 11 (38:28):
It was similar to a vending machine, but it was
for books, so the library which wanted that so that
they could go and just select the book that they
want as a vending machine.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
There are some.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Other ones that you use for the elementary or excuse me,
the pre k.
Speaker 11 (38:46):
School for those that had challenges in communication, so they
could show their emotions or whatever, whether they'll be nonverbal.
Speaker 5 (38:55):
Children or whatever.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
So just those little things that are just non allocating
the budget.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
We want to help out as much as we can.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
Yeah, yeah, that's uh, it's it's really cool that y'all
y'all see the need for something like that, and it's
crazy to be that some of that stuff isn't allocated either.
So that's great that y'all are able to come in
there and y'all recognize that there were things that need that.
We're pretty evident that we was needed and y'all were able
to step in there and do that.
Speaker 8 (39:20):
So well, you know, the budget for school districts is
not very big.
Speaker 6 (39:25):
Well, I don't.
Speaker 12 (39:26):
I'm assuming it's not very big and it's not given
as much money to the teachers as we know, so
we're just trying to help them out a little bit.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
That's awesome, good, well very you know, thank you so
much for being on the show.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
With Stuart's title.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
You're always just so involved in the community. Whether it's
breast cancer, awaren Us, whether it's you know, Lumberton Ice,
the Education Foundation, You're always doing things. Same with you
Sal with education first. Just thank you so much for
everything y'all both do in the community. Both of y'all
are just so involved and h I just really appreciate it.
We appreciate it from the Royal West Show just to
(40:04):
y'all's involvement and continue to do things in our community.
Any last words, Barrier Soul about the golf tournament or
what we're an, I.
Speaker 12 (40:12):
Thank you well, you know, just the awareness, So I
thank you for having us because the more awareness we
can get out there, the better. It's April eleventh, tea time,
ten o'clock, check in, nine o'clock. Just you know, look
on the Facebook page and see which sponsorship best suits you,
and you know, come on, let's have some fun.
Speaker 11 (40:33):
And then to add on to that, even if you're
not going to play, or you know you have interest
in having a golf team, we are looking for silent
auction items. So we've got ax throwing at skate room
packages could be an idea of camping gear. So maybe
if you're a business and you can just donate an
item for silent auction, we would appreciate that as well.
Speaker 8 (40:54):
Yeah, it would be very very helpful. Appreciate it too.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
Well, guys, that's all the time we have today, but
thank you all so much. April eleventh, folks, get out
there and get your team together. Thank you guys for
being on the show, and more to come on the
Roy West Show.
Speaker 1 (41:08):

we got to visit with John Manfreddie about Southeast Texas

great shows and things right here in our community to
participate in. If you're interested in theater really any aspect
(41:57):
of it, whether it's stage management, play right, all that,
it's there for you. Check out their website if you
want to earn more information or by season tickets. Then
we got to visit with Megan Pounders with the Junior
League of Beaumont talking about the one program that our
nonprofit's elevated. Really cool, how they just have boots on
the ground and partner monetarily and with volunteers and consult
(42:22):
You know your nonprofits, so make sure you get your
application in by the twenty fifth of February. And then
we got to wrap the show with Salgarero and Barry
Vahannon talking about the Lumberton Education Foundation golf tournament that's
