Speaker 1 (00:00):
Creativity is an addiction, unplugged because we will always say
yes to creativity, totally uncut because we all make mistakes.
So let's turn it into a tool. This is Arrow unplugged.
When it's extremely difficult to make up your mind, I mean,
having the power of choice can actually weaken a person's heart.
On this episode, we're going to explore why people make

(00:20):
the choice to be defiant or is it a choice? Plus,
why do bosses think they have the choice to over
control their employees? My name is Arrow. Life is a
series of choices. Who decides when you're not making the
right choice? Is it the fear of going wrong? The
greatest lessons in life are often lost inside hidden away

(00:41):
attempts and concepts. Well, it's time to reopen your heart.
Having that choice is your daily gift. On this highway
we learn to trust mirages. What is the choice? Making
that choice to be defiant? Is it always a good choice?
There are multiple reasons why people put themselves in positions

(01:02):
like this, personality, traits, family dynamics, environmental influences, and yes,
even mental health conditions. Defiance can manifest in so many
different ways, from minor disobedience to more serious optional behavior.
So let's break it down temperament. Some people are prone
to challenge authority and they have difficulties regulating their emotions.

(01:26):
Number two anxiety and emotional regulations. Being anxious can lead
to resistance, irritability, and defiance become very visible. There really
is something called oppositional defiant disorder ODD. It's someone who
is persistent with defiance. They are hostile toward any type
of authority. Now what leads people to this family dynamics,

(01:50):
parenting styles, and social reinforcement. It's very important to know
that defiance isn't always a mental health condition. It can
be a natural part of development and response. And never
never say no to yourself if you think you need
professional help. Hey, coming up next, Why do bosses think
they have the choice to over control their employees? Hey,

(02:14):
welcome back to the choice. So why do bosses think
they have the choice to totally control their employees? Well,
it's due to a combination of factors, including their positions
within the organization, the perception of power, and personal insecurities
or lack of experience. They feel that having control creates
efficiency to prevent errors in the project, and or image

(02:37):
of real competence. Being at the top comes with a
lot of pressure. Decision Makers set goals, give instructions, and
evaluate performances. Many leaders feel they have the right to
dictate how their team actually works if it doesn't align
with the best practices. Bosses do believe they have the
ultimate power over their employees. There are bosses who feel

(03:00):
very insecure, threatened by their employees' competence. That's what leads
them to wanting to look like they're in charge. Out
of control bosses don't just happen. They've been trained to
play this hard, growing through levels of personal fear and failure,
and that's when you hear this is not happening on

(03:20):
my clock. Things are going to be different from this
moment forward. So the best thing to do just relax
and find your calm. I'm Errow, and that's what I
was writing while the sun was waking up on a
brilliant new day

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
