Arguments has been recorded in front ofa live studio audience. What's up,
everybody, Yeah, welcome into avery fun edition of Arguments. I'm your
host, Dan Levy. Joe Kelly'son assignment. This would be the family
version because I am here with noneother than a radio professional, a news

(00:20):
and traffic reporter extraordinaire, a podcasterpersonality, one time TV host, and
my wife Jill are Check. Hi, honey, you just made me blush.
I don't do quick intros and aquick amount of time. Well,
thank you. I haven't done apodcast in a little while, and because
of that, you get you acloser. Because that I figured, you

(00:42):
know what, people are always sayingthat you and I should do a podcast
together, So why not bring itto the home front. Bring it on,
baby, all right? So we'redoing Arguments, So we're gonna do
some things that again that we've comeup with, and a couple of fan
questions too. We have a lotof people. Again, if you're one
of those people that are looking totry to get on and do some arguments
and you want to throw some stuffour way, we have a Facebook group.

(01:03):
It's actually a pretty active group, almost four hundred members. Of everybody
arguing. It's kind of like agiant Thanksgiving table if you will, Oh
God, But it's all different kindsof people barguing with each other, and
it's arguments. Some podcasts, that'sthe group. Jump on in if you
got a really good one, andif you if anybody wants to come on
this podcast, you can shoot mea DM. I'm always looking for different

(01:26):
guests and different people to be onthis show with us because it's just funny.
It's just a fun community. Sowe'll get right to it, Jill,
you and I watch a lot ofTV shows together when we can.
Pre baby DJ, we watched alot, but yeah, we do so
with that in mind before we hadthem, of course, before we had
DJ, but even now sometimes wedo get a chance to watch some shows

(01:48):
together. So, out of allthe shows that you and I have watched,
what is the best binge worthy showever? Out of all of them
that you and I have watched, there's so many. We used to binge
Frasier constantly. Fraser was a bigone, sure, King of Queens.
Yeah, and if you want togo into more of a reality TV then

(02:10):
I would go Hell's Kitchen. Okay, So which is the best one.
Oh boy, I'm I'll go withHell's Kitchen because we it evolves and we
don't know what's going on, andwe've seen all the freight because they're new,
and we've seen all the Frasiers repeatedly. I would say, for me
my favorite one of all time onlybecause you and I were It was just

(02:31):
before DJA was born, and youand I spent hours and we would say
to each other, one more episode, one more episode Breaking Bad. You
I knew it. We shredded throughBreaking Bad. But the one I liked
before that ended really bad was Dexter. Do you know what I was going
to say, Dexter? You werenot a fan of that ending. No,

(02:52):
if anybody out there that is justabout to watch Dexter, you can
This is a bit of a spoileralert for you, but for those that
I've obviously it's been out for almosttwenty years. The show was amazing the
first three or four seasons. TheJohn Lithgow episode when he kills Rita and
she's in the bathtub, that waslike the most amazing shocking scene I'd ever

(03:15):
seen on a TV show, whereI was like, that was amazing.
What a great actor but after that, Colin Hanks was was really good too,
and that was a good season too. But after that, that last
season, I feel like that waslike the year where all these other shows
were like ending, Like Breaking Badwas in its last season, Dexter was
his last season. I think therewere a couple other shows are kind of

(03:37):
swimming around that bowl of it,and everybody wanted to see what happens at
the end of Breaking Bad, sothey just mailed it in. So I
feel like Dexter, at the veryend of it, they just the last
was the last season was like theyexplained to everything, Yeah, but wait,
better call Saul was even better thanBreaking Bad, and we would binge

(03:58):
that one hard too. At thevery end, you and I were like
kind of disappointed at the no Dan, you little, but Dexter. I
thought you were going to cry,and it was. You were pissed.
I was mad because they were becausethey had spent so much time on creating
these genius characters and him like agenius guy. You're rooting for a good
serial killer, and then the verylast episode he kills the main guy in

(04:21):
the police. Okay, but wait, they brought it back and you did
not want to see it. Theydo another series. They did another season
of it. Off to ask.I know I don't have show we don't
have show time, but I justremember he killed the guy in the police
in the police like room or theentiregation room. And then like the two
guys cops come in and go,dexter, how are we supposed to explain

(04:43):
this? Say it self defense?Okay, that works, and that was
it. And then he went tosave Say what's your name? Deb I
don't know. I didn't know hissisters. Remember he took it was the
water or something. No, hetook his boat to the hospital. Everybody
was leaving because of a hurricane. He literally took her out of the bed
and brought her out of the boat. I was able to like say goodbye

(05:04):
to her, and there like noone stopped them. It was like it
was as if Godzilla was coming todestroy there was a hurricane. Nobody is
paying attention to what he's doing.Didn't she fall in love with him?
They fell in love with each other, which got really creepy. Yeah,
but they weren't related. Yeah, but they grew up brother and sister the
whole time. So you kind ofare now that I'm listening back to you

(05:24):
and I what a weird, creepyshow that we were enjoyed. Yes,
says more about you and I Iremember thinking killers an incest, remember loving
my father that we like dextery. He looked at me, He's like Jill
the dudes. He say, dude, my dad doesn't say that he's a
serial killer. I'm like, whatabout it? What about it? But
that? But you know what,it's funny that he would have like those

(05:45):
photos because other TV shows that heand I would watch and talk about are
mobster shows, and those are killerstoo true. Except this one, well
it was the first of its kind, I think, for that kind of
show, which made it so likewe've never seen anything like this. You
don't want to root for a killer. But he's killing the bad people.
It's kind of like indirectly justice hasbeen served. Yeah, he's like the

(06:08):
Robin Hood of serial killers. Yeahyeah, yeah, this is true.
He's killing the other serial killers andthe other bad people. But he just
needs to feed that beast. Butagain, like I've always made I've always
laughed with you because you've always saidto me you loved it, whether an
al capone phase. Oh, Iwas obsessed, and I would say to
you, Jill, he was amurder. Well, it wasn't crushing on

(06:31):
Capone. It's just our city,Chicago's are city. And then he was
opening up soup kitchens, you know, for people in need. It's just
kind of cool to think all thiswent on long before we were born.
But yeah, you did have toreal me in yeah, because I was
just like, think about it.I mean, weren't you Well. I
love bobster shows when everyone and someone'slike, you know that can't get enough

(06:53):
why these people were bad. Yeah, they're not good. People glorify them,
I know, but it's always funnywhen people like, oh I love
this momster guy and this guy.I'm like, these people create a mad
thing. Shoot, you're right inthe face, created bad thing. So
for me, I would say theworst of all time, the worst bid
show if you're going to watch, and the worst payoff of all time is

(07:13):
Dexter because that last episode again hekills the bad guy and they just said,
how did you explain? How canwe explain this? And he says,
we're just saying selt defense not work. Yeah, because Dan, they
were they were opening up a wayto possibly have another season come on,
which they did. But they madehim What did you want him to do?
They made it? Did somebody tokill him, didn't you? I

(07:34):
remember you saying he needs to getit, he needs to he needed to
die. But the problem was atthe very end he became he was a
guy in the woods. But youcan't do it's going to do a new
series. It's just a He's justa guy in the woods who was cutting
down like trees. I was betterto cut down trees than people. That's
all he becave. Like that's it. There was mind it. There was
another show that I should show you. It was on FX called The Shield.

(07:57):
It's about a corrupt police department, and it was awesome because the main
guy was like it was corrupt. They were it was a good show.
But he was like the main Hewas like the guy you root it for
in the main villain and at thevery end of it, like he was
in control of the city at thevery end. Not to give it away
totally, but he they give hima desk duty job and it's the most

(08:18):
boring, worst thing in his life, and they show it and they show
him like mentally and physically just becomingwhite. It was actually a really cool
thing. But he like ruled thecity. So that one for me was
like, when did you work topay off? That was way I think
it was before you even started.I was going to say, when I'm
sleeping at night, are you secretlysitting there going I'm not watching this with
my wife chlift, She'll ask toomany questions because I do do that with

(08:41):
you. No, no, no, no, it's not that our schedules
are so weird there. If Iwatch a team, if you not watch
a TV show together, it's amiracle because of our hours. There's there's
a fifty percent chance and I'm goingto fall asleep during it, or fifty
percent chance you're going to fall asleepduring it. Well, and by the
way, that's siren that's going overthey're testing. They're not sound effects.
That's a tornado awarding siren that thetest every time. And don't worry,

(09:05):
I'm not going into a hospital torescue any patients. Out of every live
in the woods. I'm gonna golive in You keep throwing that beard,
you will be a sasquatchwoodsman. Hewent to the woods crying. He was
in the woods, went to Cans, I see it. It's so terrible,
Dexter. Why did you do itto me? Why did you make
me watch all? All right?Moving on all right? Because we love

(09:30):
TV shows and TV shows that arethat are comedies. The ones that we
love the most always have an excellentside character, never always the host,
but are the main characters with theside one Mount rushmore of the funniest TV
show side characters are who for you? You want me to name them all
at one time? Give me yourfour, okay, Carlton from Fresh Prince

(09:52):
definitely, Niles from Fraser Niles isamazing, Arthur Spooner from King of Queens
Queens Early, and Florence from TheJeffersons. Florence is really good. I
would give you Kramer from Seinfeld.I would give you Urkle from a Family

(10:13):
Family Matters, Duh. I wouldgive you re Run from What's Happening It
And you know what. I wentback and forth. There was two other
guys, one who I think mightbe the best. One is JB.
Smooth who was on Curby Enthusiastic, which is the show that I got to
get you involved. I haven't seenit that one. And also Monroe from
Too Close to Row was awesome becausethat guy Too Close for Comfort was a

(10:35):
good show. But when that guywas on it, the show went up
and up, like he was literallylike the only reason you would watch from
the what was his catchphrase? Yeah, mister, what was his name of
the you're going to say, mistercatter were No, Actually that would be
a really good one too. Whatwhat what did he say though? What

(10:58):
was what was the name of Closefor Comfort? His name? Oh?
My god, my brain has stoppedfunctioning. What was the show? Mister
rush that's rush Ragh, mister, but no, horse Shack would have been
mister Connor, I would have been. He probably would have been the better

(11:18):
side character too, mister mister Cotton. Actually, all those guys, mister
Katier, those guys are all sofor me, the mout rushmore would be
Kramer, Erkle re Run Monroe, but I would also have to put in
horse Shack. And also Jamie Smoothfrom Curby Enthusiasm. He was him and

(11:39):
Kramer. I think we're interchangeable becausethey were both. Anytime those guys came
on, the TV shows went upa little bit. Okay, all right,
we got a couple of fan questionsfor you. A couple of fan
questions. This one comes from Philand Philly, not to be hilarious about
it, but then he actually isPhil from Philly. If you guys were
to find a portal and you cango, you can either go to places

(12:01):
you've never been before, or placesor only places that you've been already.
What would you do? Would yourather go to some go to places that
you've never been before and not placesyou've been, or just places you've been
and not one you've never been before. Well, since I don't know if
this will ever happen to me,you've been here, I thought about it,
and I would like to go toIsrael. I would like to see

(12:24):
where Jesus walked. If I couldwalk on the land and see where everything
started, the God from the Bible, and to see his journey, I
think that would change me. That'snot bad. That would change me.
I mean to think, Wow,this is where everything was written from.
You know, I know you've beenthere when you were younger, But for
me, that would be amazing,I would say I would. I don't

(12:45):
know if right now it would bethe best time to go to Israel.
Probably not, Probably not going togo right not going to go sight seeing
at this moment. But I know, but my mom did. My parents
did. They took me when Iwas two. They took me, me
and my brother when we were whenI was seven, and then my mom
put me on in Trouble when Iwas sixteen, which was amazing. We
did do a lot of climbing. We did a lot of sight seeing.

(13:05):
We I went to where, youknow, supposedly mostes got the Ten Commandments,
supposedly the Mount SINAI. I gotto go up there, and I
was sixteen, and I was justgot my driver's license and I did not
appreciate it. And you know,I wish I could go back now.
I wish I could see what itwas. Yeah, but for some reason,

(13:26):
when you're sixteen, everything is betterwhen you're when you're older. Like
understand it. If somebody said, hey, do you want to go back
for a year. We can payyou, and you're going to go back
to a year of high school takinghistory classes and all kinds of stuff in
bio, I would be like, hell, yeah, let's do it.
But when you're when you're a growingup kid going through you know, a
coming of age and hormones and allkinds of life. Shit, you were

(13:48):
looking for some hot Israeli chicks younot even married at sixteen years and sixteen
years old, I was just lookingto play some basketball, some video games,
and I was too nerdy and quietto hit on checks it sixteen years
old, my voice is cracked andI wasn't who I am. But now
okay, So where would you go? Though? You know what You're right?
If I were to go either tothe future or to the past,

(14:09):
I think I would have to goto the future or go to place I've
never been before, because places I'vealready been I'm tired of. I've already
been to Omaha, I've already beento New York and Connecticut. In all
places. Whenever you go back intime, it makes you do more scratching
of the head and reflecting. Ithink going places I've never been before.
Yeah, And sometimes memories are bestas memories because it's not what you think

(14:31):
you remembered. No, especially whenyou go home and you see certain things
like, man, I missed atit. Yeah, I'd rather experience some
new adventures. Now that we're older, I've buried myself at work. It'd
be nice to go do some newadventures, Sir traveling is on our bugget
list for this one. Okay, right down the money, break down the
money, and our final argument ofthe day, which we would need our

(14:52):
sun for. So call him in, will you Jay? D J?
All right, bargainers? I do. I have a son. His name
was DJ, and he and Idid do a podcast for a little bit.
It was on this very topic. So we're gonna we're gonna need him.
You're gonna sit down, all right, DJ. This is a fan
question from Joe on the North Side, and they want to know this.

(15:15):
If you were to build your ultimateice cream Sunday from the flavor of ice
creams and toppings you would put onit. What would be your ultimate ice
cream Sunday? If I were tosay you can have any topping, any
flavor, anything you want, whatwould you want on that ice cream Sunday?
I don't really know. You alwaysknow what you want. I don't.

(15:39):
What's your favorite flavor of ice cream? Chocolate? Okay, so we
were gonna start with chocolate, whatwould you want to put on top of
it? Car carme all? Whatelse? That's it? What about cookie
dough? Okay? Maybe cookie dough, but you don't like with cream anymore.
Right, that's the biggest fan ofcream. Now you became what you
like? Sprinkles? Yes? Whatabout cherry? Love cherry? What about

(16:06):
hot fudge? Love hot fudge? What about a little bit of cotton candy
ice cream? You just keep gettingbetter? What about some oriole cookie pieces?
Yes? What about some twigs andkick cat pieces? Yes? Any
peanuts, any kind of peanut butterexcept for peanut butter. No peanut butter,

(16:27):
No, yes, peanut. Whatabout some gubby bears? Yes?
What about some bananas? No?No? Healthy? No healthy? I
love it. I love you. Thanks for coming on. You were so
welcome. All right, we'll seeit a little bit. Okays, that's

(16:52):
what happens when you do a podcastfrom home. All right, honey.
If you were to build your ultimateice cream Sunday flavor of ice cream,
all what a yacht straight up vanilla, which DJ used to be. But
we'll talk about that later. Okay, creamy vanilla. It would have to
be topped with a lot of kramel. Now I have to say this,
do not go whipping up the icecream with the caramel. Every time we

(17:14):
go to get something, they screwedup. I want it on top where
it seeps over the side so youcould dig in there. Okay, toasted
pecans or peacans, whatever the heckyou want to call it, those candied
ones, you know. Yeah, then I would like big chunks of health
help. I think health is thelast part of this podcast. Pretty in

(17:34):
slip carrots, no heath, heathand butterfinger and or toffee. But they
got to be big chunks, notpowdered for them, because that's lame.
Okay, And I would like gettopped with cool whip. Cool whip Cream's
fine, but I think cool whipis better. What about you? Okay?
If I were to do it,it would be two different flavors.

(17:56):
It would be the custard. Itcan't be ice cream. It's kinda be
like that's what we were talking about. Well, give me any kind of
any kind of sunny. It wouldbe the custard ice cream because if you
go to Culvert, there's an Andeshere in Chicago, but anywhere you can
find custard ice cream, that's thebetter one. Give me the chocolate,
give me the vanilla, and thenput on top of it. I like

(18:17):
anything with kind of peanut butter.I like Oreo topping. I like the
caramel. I like kind of likea turtle kind of a flavor. And
then add some cookie pieces in there, some cookie dough, some whipped cream,
some fun candy sprinkled on top,and a cherry and cherry on top.
You even eat the cherry, thecherry. If there's no cherry on

(18:37):
a Sunday, what are we doing? Babe? It's a cherry, I
know, but it makes you.Don't give it to you. It has
I have to see it. Youare truly a little child at heart.
And it's it's very nice. It'svery sweet. It's very very he's not
joking about the cherry. You're verysweet for coming on this sweet little podcast.

(19:00):

Stuff You Should Know
Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
