But the road doesn’t get any easier as the purple now turn their focus to Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Can the Vikings keep the momentum rolling against one of the AFC’s toughest squads?
And don’t miss a brand-new segment on this week’s show — “The Good, The Bad, and The Ekstrom” — where Justin gives his honest, hilarious, and totally Minnesotan take on everything from coaching decisions to game-day performances.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Get your Vikings updates with just an extrom on Purple
Positivity on peer Belly Sports Radio Network, brought to you
buy that at the Avenue Pizza before pizza became trendy.
That's right, ladies and gentlemen, this is purple positivity, and
I am just an extra. I am the host with
the most chins. You know. I was trying to do

(00:22):
the no shave November thing or whatever and go big beard,
but apparently things don't grow down there anymore. Or it's
like super white. It looks like senta. Either way, this
is brought to you by Seventh Avenue Pizza. Love seventh
to Avenue Pizza right now. Still use your smoker. I'm
telling you that shit is delicious. I had one last
weekend again, the seven Am Breakfast pizza on a smoker.

(00:43):
Put some like mics, the hot honey or whatever they
have on that woo delicious goes perfect with that cheese sauce. Delicious. Anyway,
let's get to the Vikes, much more positive this week.
They were nine and a half point dogs upon kickoff
last Sunday in Detroit, and holy shit, they didn't necessarily

(01:07):
kick the living crap out of the Detroit Lions, but
they became much more physical. And when you out physicality,
you out physical you beat the Detroit Lions at their
own type of game, where that resilience and that you know,
I'm I'm not. A whole lot of kneecaps were bitten.

(01:29):
There were a few dirty blocks, well allegedly Gink says
that he was. It was an illegal block or a
dirty a dirty type of play from Khalif Raymond. But
I mean, I'm still old school. I like all that stuff.
I hate it when the players get hurt. If the
NFL wants to protect the players, go ahead and protect them,

(01:49):
protect them every time. And I'll get into this and
my good, the bad, and the extrum at the end
of the episode. I'm gonna debut something later on, so
stick around for that. You got an extra minute or
two on your beautiful day that you're listening to this
on whatever device you're listening to it on. But let's
get down to that game a little bit. Vikings Offense

(02:11):
came out on fire. The Special Teams unit was fantastic.
There are a couple things that could have been cleaned up,
but we could have had two house calls. Defensively, I
thought the Vikings had a really really good strategy against
the Detroit Lions. They were making sure that they were
in fourth and five, fourth and six, third and five,

(02:32):
third and three third, you know, making it so it's
tough for them to get the easy first downs. That
first opening drive that was kind of a pain in
the ass because they gave up you know, it's fourth
and three and you give up a forty yard touchdown.
Come on, man like tackle and what happened to Brian
Flores defense is with their ability to tackle and started

(02:53):
off positive. Sorry about that, but it just you know,
that's the thing that the Vikings do to me, and
due to a lot of the base like they start
off really really great and you're doing great and things
are good and then all of a sudden, nope, no good. Anyway,
Vikes I thought defensively had a really good scheme making
sure that you're ahead of the sticks, like making sure

(03:16):
that the Lions didn't have opportunities to go forward on
fourth and short. A lot more punting than what they used.
Their punter is fantastic too, by the way, which is
weird because they they don't punt all that often. But
he is absolutely an All Pro punter because he does everything.
When he found out that Miles Price and whoever else
they had returning kicks was breaking off some yardage, just

(03:39):
pinned them deep, just punted the living hell out of
that ball and angle it towards the sidelines so he
could only get five or six yards and still a
twenty instead of twenty. They're special teams Detroit Lions, I'm
talking is usually really really good. And for the Vikings
they have the Special Teams Player of the Week for
the NFC block punt or a block kick, almost a

(04:01):
house call. Miles Price, Man, that that holding, that's holding.
He just held on just a little too long. Man.
Like every there's holding on every single play. You just
gotta let go at the right time. Well, you know
where the refs are, know where the officials are, especially
the guy that's gonna throw that flag immediately let go.
A couple of times where the Vikes kind of got Jackson.

(04:21):
I thought he played a really good game against Hudginson
whenever he had a chance to go and block Inden
Hudginson a little bit. I know that we're probably not
gonna leave Aaron Jones or Mason out there to just
one on one against Aiden Hudginson anymore, that would that
would be great. I don't think that's gonna be in
the game plan for the next time they play it,

(04:43):
because that dude is a wrecking ball. He can ruin
entire franchises, not just games like he can ruin an
entire franchise. He's a bowling ball with like arms as
thick as like tree trunks and stuff. He is an
absolute machine. Vikings offensive line, it sounds like they might
actually have their official starting five this week. It's close.

(05:05):
Ryan Kelly the center. I don't think he was having
all that great of a season before he got in
here and got in the concussion protocol, and he's only
one concussion away from being a window licker or a
car washer, whatever you want to call. A retired dude
with more cte than any human should ever be. He's
he's one more concussion away from being out a league.

(05:26):
Because it's gotta be five that have been documented just
in the last couple of seasons coming off injuries. It's
gonna be tough. And I know Kevin O'Connell's he wants
him in there because the offensive line is going to
be that much stronger. I thought they had their best
showing just this past week two. They did give it,
still gave up. I want to say five sacks, but

(05:48):
and a lot of pressures. But JJ McCarthy escaping. He
looked good. He looked good enough, and I think this
week he's gonna have another opportunity against a defense that
is very, very soft season so far. I know it's
middle of the season. I know I was saying a
couple episodes ago it is early. Yet well, it's starting
to turn the corner. Now, now's time you start rallying

(06:10):
out some wins. You just got one win that you
weren't supposed to. Now you're a home dog by three
and a half. Maybe I bet you by kickoff you
might be a four and a half point dog. Because
Lamar Jackson is fucking good. I know this defense is
gonna have absolute issues with Lamar Jackson. I'm a Lamar
Jackson owner in most of my fantasy leagues, and he

(06:31):
is an absolute all star. He's a machine. It doesn't matter.
You can bottle him up on one or two plays,
but once they find something that works, they just stick
with it. And our defense seems to be very very
susceptible to middle middle of that defense. For whatever reason,
it's just because the a gap blitzes or just blown

(06:52):
coverage or whatever it is. It seems like tight ends
down the middle, and what's the name of the game
for the safety for most of the NFL quarterbacks, especially
Lamar Jackson, tight end down the middle, baby, that's what
they're gonna do. Hopefully, Hopefully Brian Flores has a nice
little game plan for the two or three tight end

(07:15):
sets that Baltimore Ravens like the run and you're gonna
have to have a spy, I think too. But the
problem is every time that Jonathan Garnard or somebody gets
into the backfield right away, they missed the quarterback. I
don't understand it. Why are you trying to tackle a
dude that is elusive, you know, the top like one
third of his body. I know it's tough because they

(07:37):
don't want you going for legs, but get better at
tackling man. You blow in there, you blow up their
their offensive scheme with that blitz. You need to hit home. Otherwise,
you know what you're You're not covering anybody. You're definitely
not being blocked. So now you're just out of the play.
I know Grenard is very good at changing what he

(07:58):
does up, but man, there's a handful of times every
single game where we have a hand on the quarterback
and they just do not bring him to the ground.
That is gonna be paramount, paramount this next week against
the Baltimore Ravens because Lamar Jackson, you get him one
less defender coming after him, get him out of the play,

(08:21):
and get in that pocket rolling he is dangerous. Defense
is gonna have their work cutout. Offense is gonna have
to go tit for tat. I honestly feel like this
is one of those games where it's gonna be Haymaker
after Haymaker. I think both defenses are just basically gonna
give up. Hey use that term loosely, because I know
they're not giving up. It just looks like they're gonna

(08:43):
Because I honestly see this game being like thirty eight
thirty or forty five forty two, or you know, I
think the Vikings lose this game. I'm gonna go thirty
seven to thirty four. That's what I'm gonna go. I
think it is gonna be a high scoring affair. Vikings
just gonna be a little too late with it. I

(09:06):
think the Ravens win by three. I hate doing that,
but I'm on a pretty good streak right now of
doing the correct predictions. So I think the Vikings cover
the three and a half, but they do lose the
game by three thirty seven thirty four. Man it that's
that's a tough game. It's one of those It's one

(09:29):
of those games that you look at and go, Okay,
we could have had it, and the Vikings have that
a lot. I just I hope I'm wrong as usual,
so that that's what's that. I would normally say skull bitches,
but now I'm gonna do a little little tease the good,
the bad, and the extram So I know, everyone say

(09:49):
an extra exer you get, you got family members, not
all of them are as ugly as you. This isn't
always going to be an ugly thing. It's not always
going to be a good bad ugly. It's gonna be
like an extra something that I see, so like this week,
just bear with me here the good. I think the good.
The Vikings are getting healthy and they gotta win. That
is the good, and this good bad extrom is not

(10:11):
always going to be about the Vikings is not always
going to be about football, But this week I'll try
to stick it purple positive. The good Vikings are getting healthy.
Vikings got a nine and a half point underdog win
on the road in Detroit. That is the good. The
bad is the Vikings didn't really move much at the
trade deadline. That could also be seen as good. But

(10:32):
it looks like Quacy his pocketbook was noel and void.
The wolf said no spend it. We do not want
to spend any more money on this roster. We believe
we have the roster that we need to continue winning.
That can be a positive, but I'm saying that's the bad.
I think there was a couple guys out there that

(10:53):
they could have gotten, could have made a look at.
I'm sure they did, but they just didn't want to
trade some of these pieces. Now, so that's the bad,
the ugly or not the ugly, the extrom the good,
the bad, the extrem Right now, it's the time of
the year, man where beautiful young or beautiful old ladies,
the pretty little they formerly were nice little cute ladies.

(11:16):
They're like the old grandma's. Now they're walking down the
street and they have just stuff in their pocket. They're like,
do you want do you want this? You want these
seven layer bars? And I'm like, goddamn right, I do.
That's the extroom right now, because everyone seems to have
something they want to give away that is nine thousand
calories each. They're just like random old ladies walking down

(11:39):
the street and Melrose are like, oh, here you go.
You want this. I'm like, goddamn right I do, and
I just fucking eat it. That's the extrem of the week.
There you go. The good Vikings win. The bad Vikings
didn't trade or get anybody else to help bolster their
defense or offensive line or anything. I think that's bad.
I think that was a bad move. And the ext room,

(12:02):
there's too much good stuff this time of year out
there where. It's just like I want to eat it.
I'm getting too fucking fat. Anyway, there you go. I
think the Vikes lose by three this week. I hope
I'm wrong. I'm wrong a lot. I would love to
be wrong this week. I think it's going to be
a very entertaining game. And there you go until next week.
Skull bitches

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
