Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you're listening to this and then lucky you you
are now listening to Sports and Songs with Dan and
Andy on the Beer Belly Sports Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hello to Welcome, Welcome to another episode, another episode of
Sports and Songs Podcast. We're in season seven, episode number one,
our season premiere for season seven Songs Edition and the
Songs Edition. Yes, we are starting another season. This should
be good. We're going to kick off on an album
review tonight. Today is November thirteenth, twenty twenty five, and

(00:33):
we're gonna do an album review. And this time Andy,
Andy's gonna take the ball and run with it. I'm
going to kind of point in some commentary if I
need to. But this is a favorite band of his?

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Was it last year? The year before we did here?
We listen to news sports, we figured out why have
we not done this one yet?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yes, Sports and Songs. This time we got season seven.
What album are we doing today? Andy?

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Seven Wishes by Night one of my uh, one of
my favorite bands. Little disclaimer here some on the side
here t confessions, Oh Night Ranger was one of those
bands for a lot of guys my age, with our
mullets and everyone else, we recognized there were good. We

(01:20):
knew there were good because their pictures were in Tiger
Beat magazine. We couldn't admit it in public. Oh yes,
a lot of us closet Night Ranger fans in high
school because some of their pictures weren't what the rock
magazines do because they were runts to the hard rockers.
They're also on Tiger Beat, so we couldn't really admit
to it too much.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
And there you know, there there are songs that they released.
The radio friendly commercial songs were you know, mainstream commercial songs.
But the other deep tracks on their albums. They had
some good hard rock rockers on those albums.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Some of the guitar likes by Brad was just incredible.
Jack Blades is just like mag crush on Jack Blades.
So oh yes, you know so yeah, closet closet Night
Ranger fan high school. Oh, I've come out of the closet,
and I hopelly admit I like Night Ranger.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Now, okay, it's fair enough. You're you're comfortable with.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
That my my manhood and I can say that.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Now. How do you like the album cover there with
the old school airplane?

Speaker 1 (02:18):
I like it when you blow it up, it's it's
gotten the little graphics out there. It looks like the
old school airplanes on today. Their videos from this album
were pretty cool, you know. Someonel Street was their first
one they released, and it was the videos all the
bands went missing. They were on an airplane ride and
they're like on this desserved island and so kind of

(02:39):
cool that the old school looks. They all had the
little airly era airplane bomber hats on and stuff trying
to throw the scruffy beard looked tough and it was
kind of looking back at and that was very funny video.
Nice but yes, by an American hard rock band, Night Ranger.

(02:59):
There third hard rock. Like we said, they always released
the ballads, the softer songs, or the not so hard
rock songs. I released a five and produced by Pat Glasser.
The album featured three Billboard Hot one hundred chart hits,
Sentimental Street, which went to eight, four in the Morning
went to number nineteen, and Goodbye I went to number seventeen.

(03:20):
All pretty slow, but again listen to the rest of
the album and they're not Interstate Love Affair, which appeared
in the soundtrack to the motion picture Teachers. So here's
the track listings seven wishes song one, and all of
these are written either solely by Jack Blades or with

(03:42):
Jack Blaize and other members of the band. Jack Blades
is the cute little short guy in front of his
basic guitar.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
He was also in Bad Damn Yekes and then him
and Timey Shots on solo stuff too. So yeah, some
of wishes first faces, four in the Morning, I Need
a Woman, and Sentimental Street Faces he wrote with uh,
Kelly Keegan and Alan Fitzgerald. The rest were all written

(04:11):
by just Jack Blades. Side to the Boys The Boy
Needs to Rock, very good song, very underrated song, I
Will Follow You, inter State Love, Affair, Night, Medicine, and Goodbye.
The track four in the Morning is entitled four in
the Morning I Can't Take any More on the single release,

(04:31):
so if you bout like the forty five, it was
called four in the Morning I Can't Take any More.
There was one album they did. It was a live
acoustic album or acoustic set. The Boy Needs to Rock
on that acoustic was incredible. So just that's such a

(04:53):
great song. It goes good both ways. But there get
all those songs written for boys need the Rock was
Blades and Bred Fitzgerald and Blades on How Will Follow You? Uh,
Jack Blades alone and in Air State, Love Affair, Night
Medicine Blades, Key Getting Gallas and Gillis and then Goodbye
was Jeff Watson and Jack Blades. So the personnel Jack

(05:14):
Blades based on lead vocals, Jeff Watson and guitars, Brad
Gillis guitars and vocals, Aaron Fitzgerald keyboards and vocals, and
Kelly ke Get drums and lead vocals. He doesn't face normally,
he's kind of face to the side. You see his
left side and he's up front, so you see him

(05:35):
from the side because he does a lot of singing.
Additional vocals on this album included Kevin Charles David Sky's
Fish Dog or backing vocals on That Medicine, along with
Tommy Lee and Vince Neil. Interesting I've mentioned before Timy
Lee and Vince Neil for ah, what was the video? Uh,

(06:09):
I'll think later all over there? Hold on, So here
we go. A couple of notes on some of the
members of the band. Jeffrey Watson, the guitarist known for
his work in Night Ranger. Uh. He co wrote but
he appeared as a special guest on Douglas Dockers Doctors

(06:31):
Guild Project. He also released solo Wolves. In two thousand
and seven, he was fired by the by three original
members of Night Ranger threw a letter from the attorney.
So he then went on to be part of Dennis
Young's traveling band Dennis the Young Sticks. He went solo
so this was his last one, and then Alan Fazgerald

(06:54):
or Francis Allenzgerld's full name keyboard player. He also is
bassist in the group Montrose and keyboards for night Ranger.
He also performs Gamma a former Montros bandmates Sammy Hagar.
He also do I Mean. Hagar was the lead singer

(07:16):
to Recall a Lot of Van Halen Stuff from nineteen
eighty four on, and he played both keyboard and guitar
on the album. Allian will play keyboard on tour, so
Eddie can still play guitar on stage. So is that
little tidbit there for you? So the other stuff was
said Jack Blades's dot some solo stuff. I I like

(07:42):
all their things. I've always all the Night Ranger albums.
I couldn't tell you one or the different. What's better?
What's worse, I do think in my opinion, they're one
of those bands where if you want a good sing
along album, listen to in the car. Night Rangers your
your go to on that for me, look says some

(08:03):
days you just want to listen to the radio and
just be lost. Some days won't be loud and obnoxious,
but some days want something single long too, and it's
a night Ranger. Get back to the thing about timy
Lee and Vincio. Secret of my success at soundtrack. You
watch that video, it's got this weird time Lee playing

(08:25):
Horne in that. Yeah to me, night Ranger, I want
to sing a lot in the car. This is what
I put in. But the only time I do that
is when I'm the only one in the car. Yeah,
of course that don't. Don't get in the car with me.
Go hey, Andy and put that in. See if I'm saying,

(08:45):
because I'll be.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
The same here. It's only solo.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Yes, I do solos. I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
I don't like to do this, the singing with other
folks in the car. But h yes, no, not.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Even bo he mean rhaps it. I knew that by
myself in the car. I don't need others. I'm one
man Man. Yes, Site Night Rangers, Some Wishes, very good album.
I appreciate it. When I was out there, that just good.
Tell people again trying to protect the mullet and the
image at the time. Jack Blades again, I said it
back then he did have some of the best hair

(09:21):
in the eighties.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Two Jack Blades always did you.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Know he's a fighting he's fighting the hairline. Now he's
a good solid five head up here and no out
of forehead anymore. But still love him, Still love them.
But yeah, if you ever hear their old interviews, you'll
see them interviewing with other people. I've seen him talk
about how they do all these eighties tours all the time.
He goes, and I'm by paraphrasing names of bands here,

(09:48):
but the point is there. He goes, We'll be on
one tour with like, you know, Wang Chung and Flack
of Seagulls. Then we're over here with you ten Nugent
his band and sticks and everybod else there. Yo. They
fitted both ends. That's what made them so great in
the eighties. Everybody liked them very fluid, Yeah, and there weren't. Yeah,
their videos helped. We've talked about how a lot of

(10:10):
bands MTV made their career. They didn't need MTV. They
had the sound, they were good, they were fine. The
videos helped, the kid magazines helped. They would have been
just as popular without MTV, I think, Okay, but they were.
They had a little bit of song and every cover.

(10:31):
All that basis right there.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
It's good stuff, good stuff. Well, that's the way we're
going to start the season here, season seven with Little
Night Ranger. Seven wishes. Leave your comments below in your
questions if you have any or your thoughts on the album.
When you bought this, do you buy this as a
cassette back in the day or do you got a

(10:56):
brother brother?

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Hello, I had to borrow a copy from somebody else. Okay,
image was everything. I couldn't be seen buying that stuff.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
I couldn't be seen with this where I was.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Living at time you open. Brainerd's still kind of a
small town, you know.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
I had to be very very careful on what people
saw you carrying around. But now it's all out in
the open. It's good stuff. Seven wishes. Everybody, all right,
have a good week. We'll see you next Thursday.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
