Andy on the Beer Belly Sports Radio Network.

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Sports and Songs podcast.
This is season seven, episode number one, our debut for
the season. Andy, this is the song. Oh wait, this
is the sports edition. This is the sports Oh my gosh.
All the focus that we spent getting this show right
for the for the big show today and it forgot
to change it.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
From the bus and the streamers and the cake and
the breakroom, yeah, the.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Confetti, all this forgotten. Here we go.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Take a look sports Yeah one, season seven, this is
their season premiere. We've now completed six full seasons of
Sports and Songs episodes. Were kicking it off now fifty
two more weeks on Monday nights, and we could come
into your living room now and you can listen in
on the show. So we get a trivia question to start,
(01:01):
and then Andy will get into some sports. Yes, here's
here's the trivia question. On this very day, what happened
in Carmen killer Brew's career on this day in nineteen
seventy five, what happened to Harmon Killerbrew beloved by all
on this day nineteen seventy five. We'll get to the
(01:22):
answer at the end of the.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Episode and.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Greatest twin Hour.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
First of all, yes, I knew you'd I knew you'd
like that.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Greatest best autograph ever Harman.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yes, the greatest aswment out of the state of Ohio.
Right Ho, I mean Ida Hope end Ohio too. Also,
here we all. This is US recap in the volleyball
State Tournament Class A, also known as the Mayor Luther Invitational,
won by three donut. Here we go Holliwy, the number
(02:06):
one seed in two A wins over Chatfield, Marshall over
bilds In Margaret and four A the number one sweep.
All the ones won Lakeville, south Over Prior Lake three donut.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Congrats to all.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yes, and now, like we just said, football and swimming
are next. They call this part of the state tournament
for football. I mold school, say no, it's that preple
weekend is state tournament, but else tickets. I guess, so
state is this weekend next? After starting Thursday with some
games and the tack he died at Thursday night, seven
(02:45):
o'clock at the Big at the Greenhouse and then Thursday, Friday,
Saturday swimming down on campus on at the Aquatic Center,
swimming and diving for the girls, and mark your calendars.
Here we go. Free agency has started. The summer. Seventh
through ten is the Winter Meetings. January twentieth is Hall
(03:05):
of Fame. February tenth already pitchers and catchers report. In
March fifth, the World Baseball Classic begins. It's right around
the corner.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
It's all moving very quickly. I mean, this World Baseball
Classic is going to be huge. Free agency is moving fast.
Rosters have got to be finalized, the Rule five drafts
coming up.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Lots going on.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
I've heard, and some of the hirings and firings and
free agent signings follow us on social media. Will see
all those on there. And here are some free agents
right here now. I don't know if it was official
or not, but I think I've read somewhere that shore
Work signed today with somebody, or he was talking with Boston.
(03:47):
I haven't followed up on that yet, so cross him
off the list. I have a gut feeling Alonzo and
Diaz will both be gone. I don't think that that's
will signed with either one. Of them. I don't like
saying that, but I just got a feeling, So we'll
go with that. More on that coming up later and
not in this show, but later I can come and
(04:12):
here are some of the player from Japan. There, here's
the stakes on what teams are gonna get them. But
I think it's funny. Is they have any other team
at plus seven hundred and the Giants, Phillies and Rangers
are worse than that. So you're telling me the Twins
in Tampa Bay and Miami have a better shot than
the Giants, Phillies or Rangers are signing him. I find
that very hard to believe. I really really do. I
(04:37):
those teams aren't even on the board. I guarantee who's
gonna sign if they're gonna sign this guy that the
Twins are so cheap, they won't sign me. Okay, so
let's just don't even get excited.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
I just wonder if that's if that is that a
you know the meme? Is that misleading?
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Or is that is.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
That is that r Kasman there? The other there three teams,
any other team the field is that plus? So that
that's the Twins, the Rays, the Marlins, whoever else isn't
on there, you know, braves whatever. Really, I find that
so hard to believe.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Well, the one thing for the listeners, Andy is regardless
of who gets him, remember this name. This is gonna
be the only name you really need to know for
this offset. He's this is the big big guy is
a beast in Japan, and he's gonna draw a big
dollar blue chip for this player this year.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
This will be fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
We've mentioned this being episode one for season seven. I
can say this now. We've said it the last six years.
If you follow our social media, we still post it
up there. Not only not only has got from Japan,
but players about Australia and the Korean League are also
coming in more often now too. You can stream these
games on YouTube or find them on internets to watch.
(05:52):
If you love baseball and you're like me, you don't care.
It's a game. You'll watch it and you see some
X major leaguers down there for the name. It's just
fun baseball to watch it. Not saying you're scouting for
the names, but every now and then peak through it,
follow it, see who the big names are. Watch those games.
I I know the Japanese League is hard to watch
(06:15):
for the camera angles some of the older tapes I've watched. Uh,
the Australia League. I've seen better stadiums here in Tumball
than some of those places play at. But it's baseball.
If you love baseball, you'll find out and watch it.
Australia League starts this week. Who Bison great game I saw,
(06:36):
I get. I was not there. I watched on TV,
but they went to Grand Forks and one last play
the game, Bison aircepthing in the end zone to seal
the win. Come from behind victory. Just beautiful all around,
and that makes them the Missouri Valley Football Conference champions.
At ten and zero. They're one of two teams to
be locked into the playoffs already for that.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
So obvious FCS baby and.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Their schedule that got Northern Iowa come up this weekend
at the Northern or at home and end up season
against Saint Thomas, So that's kind of interesting in the
New York Saint Thomas is not a gimme game at all,
but last two are at homes. That should be nice
for them there.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yeah, interesting.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
And uh the Beaves they lost. The lose was just
toying with them. I think they could play being by
more of saw part of that game. I know we
had representatives up there scouting the game.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
For US Junior correspondence, and there was a senior day,
Senior Day for the.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Bulldogs Senior Day, and then they were at home against
Mary and that's just going to be just a formality game.
I hate save rebuilding the euark for college because it's
not it is what it is. The Beams are good
the last couple of years I was graduated. It's just
part of the rotation every now and then for some
(08:02):
of these schools. So hopefully they come back next year.
I know we don't have scores here for but the
Lady Bes for soccer have advanced to the tournaments. Hockey's
after a great start with start following up more in
the next couple of weeks here basketball hockey, So go
Bes and the Bunnies lost for the third week in
(08:24):
a row. M Yeah, you just I don't know. They
just their mojo's gone. I don't know what it is. Yes,
it was their rivalry game against South Dakota, but still
three in a row. Just wow. If you had told
me the beginning of the year they have a not
only would they lose three games this year, they lose
three in a row. I would have to take a
p test for drugs. Yeah, you know, I would have
(08:48):
bet the farm and all the animals that there's no
way there was a three, let alone three in a row.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Who tough pill to swallow? There for these guys. But boy, yeah, now.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Shocking college basketball players arrested again?
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Is this the police report segment?
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Not yet? College?
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Not yet?
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Don't say cool yet? University of Orleans players running points.
There'll be more on this coming up on this week
on our Community college section about gambling in sports. Lately,
it's been a big deal. These guys. Here three players
of the same team, which is one guy, I guess
(09:35):
you get away. You got three guys. Someone's gonna lip
off and it's gonna get out one guy. You can
do it and hide it. Yeah, three guys are not
and it's gonna really look obvious. But more than that
coming up was at night in community college. But then
here LSU Tigers. They're quote from ESPN, they were balling
(09:56):
the hell they were. You beat somebody by almost a
that's not ballin' okay, and nothing against the other school,
but me, you and three other guys who gave them
a better run. So I don't know why these schools,
why you play them? Why would you be the lesser school?
Want to get your butt kicked?
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Like that? Is it the cash?
Speaker 1 (10:18):
It's the money, it's the money.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
There's like you said, there's an incentive, so it's got
to be that.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
But boy, embarrassing, But hold on, there's stay cool. Yet
Boise State lost to college who has our campus inside
a shopping center and plays at a gym with eight
rows of bleachers. Oh so this is why you play LSU.
If you're a little school, just a case you could
pull us off. But here's the lightning on a bottle
(10:48):
when that happened. But still football basketball. I don't like
it where you go against the little school, just upound them.
I don't respect that at all. Yeah, okay, now here,
I'm confused. Juju Watkins college player, college player? Remember these athletes?
(11:09):
How could they survive in college without getting money? She's
directly invested in a pro woman's sports team.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Now this isn't even the soapbox, right.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
No, I'm just confused. How are they gonna make a
little nil money? How are they supposed to surcribe in
college without payment, and now she's part owner of a
team in college.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
I would it goes back now, Andy, it goes back
to once you're done and graduated.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
I don't care what you do.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I don't even care if it's the transgender topic.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Do everyone.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Once you're done with college, you can invest once you're
done with college. But as a what is she a senior.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
In college investing her owner and a pro woman's sports team.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
And see that is going to rub people the wrong
way because college students are also looking for money. You
got the nil and you got all this stuff. Now
you're purchasing investing in a team.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Year, she's in college investing in a pro team. Yet
next year should be complain she doesn't make enough in
the wmche. They don't pay enough there.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
You just gotta watch your watch your movies.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
That's why these girls are gonna stay four years in
college and make more money in nil than the chemical
going pro. And she's mad enough she's invested in a
pro team. Excuse me, so you know you here?
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Yeah, it's interesting, it's it's I mean, good for her.
Of the comment is she's investing, fine, that's that's good.
But as a college student athlete. I don't know if
I would make a public announcement like this. It had
to be somehow. It had to have been a press
release to do this, to get this out.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
There, I'm going to promise you, like he almost shoe
money goes in this or whatever. But still, how are
you getting that much shoe money to invest in a
pro team?
Speaker 2 (13:04):
So it's it just doesn't look good once again, because
you're right, she's gonna go to the w NBA and
complain about not making enough, and now this is gonna
come back and bite her.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
I think it's just.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
And now all the policeptics, it's just it does not
look at Oh here we go, yes.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Or some people may call it the NBA trade rumors.
I call the police reports Cam Roll's trade rumor that
I get Ja Morat from Vancouver. Now granted he's never
been convicted, but he was suspended for waving a gun
on Instagram and I'm accused of something else but never convicted. Okay,
why would you entertain yourself get a clown like this?
(13:47):
This is why again the NBA, this is all I'm
not gonna save it. It's negative stuff like this. I
have not a good word to say about that sport.
It's just it's trash. What everyone's excited abou get guy
who's whoa He's dodged. He's dodged the law twice. Let's
get about our team. Why why is he still playing?
Why are people still putting him up as a what
(14:09):
a great role model? He's dodged the police twice. He's
a jerk.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
It's that good look.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Go passings. Paul Tagler moved former NFL commissioner passed away
there to day. There were some bad things said about
him at the time, but and I'm not going to
defend him, but I am. He at the time said,
you know, concussions aren't that big a deal. But you
remember when he said that, back thirty years ago, we
didn't know what concussions long term stuff was. So and
(14:41):
that's when back when football was a man's game and
you hit each other dead, you know. So when he
said that, with the studies we had the time, yes,
it's it kind of goes back to the how dare
you own a slave? Well that time it was legal,
and okay, you know what he said, concussions aren't that bad.
We didn't know what concussions long term cases were so well,
(15:01):
you did do a lot to change the game. One
of the first commissioners I remember as a ute.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Yeah, so was the big concussion was the Mike Webster case.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Right, Yeah, that's the one that kind of blew that.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Kind of blew it all up.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
And and tag Leabou probably had some responsibility in downplaying that.
I'm sure. I'm sure he did. But he did a
lot of good things for the sport. And yes, there
was also negative bad things about him, but I think
that's going to come with all the NFL commissioners. You're
in the you're in the you're kind of in the
swamp if you're an NFL commissioner. There's yep, it's not
(15:39):
all bright and Rosie in those guys.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
And Lenny Wilkins passed away yesterday. A lot of people
our age probably remember him more of a coach at
the end and TV analysis guy. But here's just so
stats on Lenny Wilkins. When I was looking these up,
I vaguely remember when he's a coach following this. Okay,
so there's his years as a player Saint Louis Hawks,
(16:01):
the SuperSonics, Cleveland and the Trailblazers. Then his years coaching.
But then wait, wait, he played from sixty eight to
seventy two at Seattle, but he coached Seattle from sixty
nine to seventy two. Oh, he was a player coach. Okay,
seventy four to thirty five with Portland, he was a
coach seventy four, So he coached a lot of those times.
(16:23):
And look over there. Nineteen seventy nine NBA Champion, Coach
of the Year. But wait, you go back up there.
Nineteen seventy he was the NBA Assist leader, and then
you look back, wait, he was coaching in nineteen seventy
also in playing, so only was he and al was
the assistant coach. Where you're still a coach, Y, your
(16:44):
coach and the assist leader in nineteen seventy. You won't
see these stats ever again, Boys and girls.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
You cannot overlap as welly coach, and then you're good
enough to lead the league and assesss that year.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
He was on the All NBA team for the fiftieth
and seventy fifth anniversary consets, the second team All of
America in ninty sixty, then won the championship in seventy nine.
Coach of the Year ninety four, four times NBA All
Star coach, top ten coach in history, and top fifteen
coach in the NBA history. And twenty eleven got the
(17:19):
trick Daily Life how Jubman Awards, So Lenny welcomes and
then he did some great announcement at the end two
just player coach wise, you'll never see that again.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
So I'm unreal, all.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Right, bat little sexist. I got all excited. So I
read the very last line here women's world number one,
and tennis it was gonna take on number six fifty
two and the men's. I thought, Okay, here we go.
This is gonna be great. December twenty eighth, Coca Cola
Arena in Dubai. That's where I lost all interest in Dubai.
They're buying up all these major sports events to have
out there for them that show and oh, you know
(17:58):
you guys want to do this year, that's all find
a great do it on our soil, have it here.
Why are you flying out only to Dubai to do
this for the money, not for the Hey, I want
to prove women are better than men or men and
better than women. This is a pure money grab. I
saw that last two words in Dubai money grab so
(18:26):
ladies hockey teams. The two new teams have announced their
team names. There they go, excuse me, see hot on
Vancouver having their names and their logos. Go to the
p w HL to get your jerseys done. Oh yes,
and one more thing. We mentioned this on our Facebook
(18:47):
page and here it is. They put the set up
who's the best closer, And then I said we'd have
our picks here. The four choices they gave us were Marigoto, Rivera,
Dennis Oconds League, Rally Fingers, Bruce Soonter And I told Danna, said,
here's the question, and you could go off to the
menu and pick somebody else. Do you have an answer,
(19:09):
Dan or no.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
I'm a big Achersley fan.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
As a former he was a starter and then came
in as a you know, switched over to reliever and
became one of the best. But I think if you
talk to the newer or the younger, younger kids, younger
generation Riviera, I think Mariano's everyone's gonna pick Mariano, aren't
they not?
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Right now here here's my answer. You can't pick one
here because with rolly fingers and Bruce Soooter, more and
more Rawley as a reliever. He was pitching three innings
gonna save save, not the third like Mariano and Ackers.
So the game for a reliever was so different between
(19:50):
those eras. You can't compare these. You cannot compare these four, Yep, ECKERSLEI, Mariano,
you probably keex It was still hacking at third rounding
to save Woo. But with Suitor and Roley fingers there
for the generation where you really were pitched three innings,
two innings at the time to get a save, and
it was hard to get a save because most guys
went nine innings back then. You know, it wasn't unheard of.
(20:12):
We're gonna have ten or fifteen complete games in a
year and you were pitching one or two innings to
do it. But if I had to pick up the four,
I would have to say I liked Bruce Suitor better
of the four. I thought he was more intimidating. If
(20:33):
you will, he came like, oh crap, your comes sooner
Mario and Rivera Eckersley. I think people overthought it and
scared themselves out. And one more thing I want to
bring up on this, I did not save the website
on here to put on the next I don't want
to name names on it. These are the worst drugs
of these guys I've ever seen in my life. Al
(20:54):
the Pitcher, Mario and Rivera. He was not left handed
and rolling fingers. Never had a mustache that clean and tidy.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
No, never, no, And.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
You know, ex hair was done with that short.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Oh it's a left handed Rivera.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
That is excellent.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Yeah, it's like that now. Yeah, you know that's why
we're here. We're here to educate.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
We like it.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Back when they had the road leads relief man.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Never thinking of bringing that back for next year. Is
a sponsorship thing, Yes, so that would be kind of
cool and exciting to see. But the way they've changed
the rules for relievers, how you got what you gotta
do to get a saved now and everything else blah
blah blah, kind of changes everything. I also, I like
(21:43):
to dan Quizmberry. Back in the day, the submariner what
was his name, Kentsburgh kent to cold he had that
rubber arm side our motion any and the pirates that
had the cool hats too. So you that's but two guys. Yeah,
(22:04):
Jesse Roscoe, help Jesse Roscoe with the Mets and stuff.
Randy Myers with the Reds in the early nineties, Randall
Kay former Mets, but when he was there, just John
Wetland with the Rangers in the Yankees. Not top ten,
but just relievers that were so different than today.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Notable, notable guys.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Yeah, yeah, that's what I got. That's what I got, man.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Well, the only thing I got for Arizona Fall League
is going on. It's actually wrapping up. There's three days left,
you know, there's today, regular season in the Fall Tomorrow
and Wednesday, then the regular season playoffs are Thursday, playoffs
again on Friday, and then Saturday it wraps up. So
the Arizona Fall League, this is the basically it's a
(22:54):
whole league of futures guys, is really what it is.
So I play in Arizona, down there, Phoenix and Scottsdale,
good stuff. They do have playoffs and whatnot. It really
doesn't really mean much, but it's good to see these
games in the stats and how these players are doing.
The Prep Bowl I'm going to do is is focus
(23:17):
on Saturday going to that Chan Hassen versus Elk River game.
That's a Class five A state semifinal. And the reason
I think this is going to be interesting is it's
an exact rematch of last year's Class five A state
semi final. Elk River won by two points over Chan
(23:39):
sent him home. Now they have a rematch. Elk River
went on to win it last year, so that the
defending champ. This is going to be a very good
interesting game to.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Watch elk River.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
All they do is pound the ball and run it.
If they pass, it's a couple times a game, but
it's basically running the ball down your throat and how
do you defend that?
Speaker 1 (23:59):
Twelve Oklahoma do throw at bone bone.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Boom, and it chews up the clock.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
The clock is running. I think it gives the opposing
teams less, you know less series with the ball, and
it's it's gonna be very interesting. I'm looking forward to
that matchup there. And then on the other side, it's
Sat Thomas Academy is going to be playing spring Lake Park,
and Springlake Park beat Alexandria, one of the top teams.
(24:27):
I think they were the number one ranked team in
that class and upset them in overtime and beat them,
so Alexandre's out. Springlake Park is now like the Cinderella
team and then that Saint Thomas Academy team is the
only team to beat Chan Hassen this year. Chan Hassen
would have been undefeated except for this game they went
to Saint Thomas Academy. There was lightning, there was weather
(24:48):
and storms that game, Saint Thomas Academy built a two
touchdown lead. Chan Hassen came back and scored, you know,
to make it close, and lightning was called in the
game ended. They never finished the game. Yep, that's that
game where lightning called the end to it. Chan fans
were not happy. Saint Thomas loved it. But there's a
(25:11):
chance there could be a Saint Thomas Final against Chan.
There could be uh elk River winning back to back.
There could be spring Lake Park coming out of nowhere.
But my focus this weekend will be in the five A.
It's gonna be some very good football there to uh
to see on and we'll be posting pictures and Twitter
updates on Saturday. And then the following week is their
(25:32):
Prop Bowl Championship games.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
And it's not Thanksgiving weekend either.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Yes and so and maybe they did this last year too.
Was it moved up or is it just the way
that it fell.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
I think didn't move it up last year. So the
Vikings were playing on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Yes I think they did, and Vikings were at home,
so they had to shift things.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
But this is going to be I don't know, maybe
because a travel and early I think it was.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
There was a multitude a couple things. I think Thanks
Forgiving fell so late last year. The Vikings were in town,
they were playing at home. They had to fit all
this in. So what it comes down to is this
weekend semi finals, next weekend the finals, and after that
we'll have six champions crowned in Minnesota state prep football
out of three hundred and forty nine varsity programs in
(26:22):
the state of Minnesota start in August. For football at
varsity level, three hundred and forty nine statewide, comes down
to six champions next weekend, so that's what we'll be
looking for here as well.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
We'll go at the Viking schedule right now. November twenty
third they're at Green Bay and November thirties they're at Seattle,
so they were gone. So it's not that it's not
the Vikings needs stadium, So maybe just because its calendar schedule,
the ended up earlier and get it done with.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
You know.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Interesting, Now we've got a trivia answer, Andy.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Here was a tractor pull that weekend or something?
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Yes, we have a trivia answer.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
The beginning of the show we talked talked about something
happened to Harmon Killerbrew on this day in nineteen seventy five.
Do you have an answer?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Andy, sadly, yes, I do know this, Okay, I figured
you might. Sad moment.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Harmon was released by the Kansas City Royals on this
day in nineteen seventy five, ending a twenty two year
career and a.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Lot of a lot of folks, even maybe our age,
you know, didn't know that.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
He went on and played a couple of years with
the Royals there at the end, but he did. He
was let go in the offseason following this nineteen seventy
five season. They cut him loose and then he decided
to retire. But twenty two years.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
I want to know if if that was in today's world.
You here's a lot in football if you want to
come back and signed the one day contract that s
were in training to retire as a twin you know
they was signing for one day. Just hear hey, ha ha,
you're a.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Twin, and that could have been you know, beginning of
you know, the nineteen spring in nineteen seventy six season,
they could have signed them for a day, could retire
as a twin.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Maybe those things were talked about. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Yeah, that wasn't a big thing that it started coming
to thinks the last thirty years where players came back
to our team for a one day contract so they
could retire with that team. But I think Harmon maybe
maybe not. You know, Calvino had done it for money draws,
helping me be an opening day one player and then
got them, you know, we'll them retire.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
It was before my time.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
You know, I never really followed sports prior to that,
nineteen seventy eight, nineteen seventy seven, you know, seventy five.
I wasn't tuned into what Harmon Kilibbrew was doing. At
that time. I was five years old. But that's that's
why we do the show.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
We bring up the race because right there, weird, that's
on them.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Yes, coach, I'll after bring it up a post post
show here.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
But I had education. We heard educate and for the.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Listeners out there, feel free to listen in to Andy's
Community College. That's a new show. It's a new series
premiere here with premiering that's starting up on Wednesdays. It's
community college. It's educating.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Last music appreciation, Yeah, music appreciation. Last week we talked
about Brian Adams. This week says to be sports gambling,
not the history of it, but just how do you
how do you gamble it away with it? I mean
they got the players from the Indians right now where
he was paid? Wait, you you could have made it
twelve thousand dollars compared to your million dollar contract. What
(29:29):
are you an idiot? I don't care if gambling's dictive
or whatever. Money's money. Why are you doing it?
Speaker 2 (29:36):
And you're probably gonna bring up Pete Rose into that show,
but you know how he was just his career was
just over because of the gambling. Now you turn onto
pro sports and the gambling is shoved down your throats
as a fan.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
Imagine the stress as a player and.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
It's it's it's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yeah, the Mets gives the update throughout the game. Oh
now we're need the seventh ending, and now here's the
betting line and who's gonna win?
Speaker 2 (30:05):
And now ye know, really the betting lines, it is
just so over the top.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
It's looking forward to that show. Anything else here for tonight? Ay?
Speaker 1 (30:15):
No, that's it.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
It's like we got Mondays, Thursdays, got community college Wednesdays.
I'm gonna start talking more college hockey and basketball coming up,
so watch for those shows. Baby bonus episodes of those
coming up. Lots of fun stuff this fall in winter
sounds good.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
See you next week.
