Speaker 1 (00:00):
Bob Peckett Radio. I'm Bob Peggett. Let's jump back in
the past. I found an old YouTube video of the
interview I did with Billy Carrington, and this is years ago.
I mean this video was recorded on April thirtieth, two
thousand and nine. I don't even want to think about
the math involved with that anyway, but found out a
lot more about Billy Carrington on that day and stuff
that you may know. Billy's a very interesting guy, very
(00:23):
interesting and you know the big hit, the big song
that he had just released, a song called People Are Crazy,
which I know you know by now, back then nobody
really knew about it. But do you know the story
behind that song, how he had to fight to get
that song and who originally was going to record it? Well,
listen in let's just dive in back to this interview
in two thousand and nine with Billy Carrington on Bob
(00:44):
Pickett Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yep, everybody, Bob Pickett, this'say with Billy Carrington.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Right now.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Did you really take a vacation to Hawaii and you
went out and saw the whales or did you go
to Sea World and see the whales?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Would you really know why? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (00:58):
I'd go there about three or four months year, no
way in the off season, and uh I joined the
padling team over there, and so usually most two three
times a week we get on the south shore and
we get in the six man canoes and there's probably
about thirty of us and we'll paddle out about an
hour and that's usually where we start seeing all the
whales during that time of year.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
But that's like a little bit. That's a little bit
of both.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Yah.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
They're very small and they come right up next to
you and they look at you and then they just
sink back down and then one second later they're like
a mile down there.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
They actually look at you. Yeah. How big are their eyes?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
They're pretty big.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I mean they're monsters.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
They're very intelligent. So they're not gonna hurt you anything
like that.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
No, they won't, No, not at all.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
They're just like interested in seeing what you are. And
they're having their babies at that time of year, and
so you hear the bursts going on. I've actually filmed
underwater that happened. Now they actual birth, but the sounds
and everything that's that's going on during the birth, I.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
See, that's almost that's almost like very spirit it is.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
Yeah, I need to put some of that stuff up.
I need to edit some of that footage. I got
so much footage of all that stuff over there in Hawaii. Right,
it's just sitting on my computer unedited. But there's some
really cool things that happened over there.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Well, how did you discover that? I mean, you're originally
from Georgia.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
Yeah, from Georgia, And I grew up on an island
over there called Tabby Island, So I mean I was
accustomed to the island life already, but.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I went over there and met a guy who guides
over there.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
He takes people on surfing trips and and uh, you know,
tours of the mountains and the waterfalls and just so
many different things. And he just become one of my
best friends over there, and so I learned the whole
island from him, you know, and everything there is to do.
There's so many things that the locals know about that
the tourists don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
So those are the places.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Are you considered a local mountain?
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Yeah, because I've met a ton of them over there
and became friends with him and played a lot of
music over there, and not in venues, but in people's
homes and living rooms and things like that in my
own living room and little house parties that I've had
over there and h So, yeah, I've got to know
them pretty well.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
And that's did you ever envision yourself moving from Nashville
or what?
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, Well, I'm kind.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
Of just gonna take it these three or four months
a year at the moment because the thing at my age,
I want to do it all right right, and I
want to hit every Third World country that I can.
This year, I'll hit about seven and including like Guatemala,
Costa Rica, Belize, Hay Team maybe.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Just different ones.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
So that takes a lot of time there, So I
can't see myself staying over there all the time.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Now what do you do? I mean, you like to travel?
What do you like to visit Third work countries? What
do you see?
Speaker 4 (03:43):
I mean, do you see how the environment to people?
And ye, my wife is different.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
I'm trying to figure out a way to bring them
medical supplies at the moment for this trip that we're
doing in December, and it's also we're having a just
based around also some tournaments and fishing. Turn that's that
we're doing selfish and we're playing music over there. I'm
bringing three songwriters over there that you guys might know,
(04:07):
Scottie Emrick, Yeah, Bratt Jones, and I'm not sure who
the other guy is gonna be.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
I think his name is Dallas Davison.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
But we're all going over there and playing music for
him and and hopefully bring them shoes. That's what they need.
They need medical supplastimos. But those kids, they don't have
no shoes over there.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Now.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Do you have a link on your website where people
if they want to help, or they can go to
see how they can help.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
We're working on that now, but it'll be up on
like my Space or something like that pretty soon. We're
trying to tie everything together right now. There's so much involved,
but it's gonna be really cool and really cool adventures.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
See, this is a different siety that we don't know
from the radio, from the music part.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Yeah, there's so much going on when it comes to
stuff like that. In my life, I just don't have
as much time to do it as I would like.
But the time that we do have, that's that's where
I'll put it in.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
While well, let's talk about music. Let's talk about your
your stack of number one. Hiss. Man, it just keeps
it just keeps grolling.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
I mean, thankfully, wow, wow, later blessing.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah to the latest song, people Are Crazy And what
a title and what a song. I love those little
story songs.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Geat you looked ud Middle Yeah, and the title alone
was what got me hooked. I got like a five
song sampler of this guy named Troy Jones and and
Bobby Braddock. They're great story songwriters and uh, and I
just went straight to that song because that's all the
title and it was, you know, just funny in itself
and I just loved the song. And I was actually
(05:33):
being pitched another song on that CD and not that
one because they so I called about that and they're like,
oh man, that song is on Hole for for Kenny Chesney,
George Stray, Alan Jackson.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
They were naming all these people and.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
They're like, yeah, good luck, get in line, and uh,
but I couldn't get off of the song. I kept
calling every week. I was like they let it go, yeah,
and they're like no, I'm One day we were going
in the studio and I called and they were like, man,
you really want that song. I was like, I really
want some and They're like, well, let me make some calls,
and I guess they call their people or something. I
don't know all these people that had it, and but
(06:08):
everybody was nice enough to say let him.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Have the one. Did Kenny let get away things?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
I think he was nice though he didn't purpose.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
You know, he's like he's had plenty of those and
he's just they gave it up and let let me
record the song.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
Well it's it's it's gonna be big, you know, I
mean about as big as your last year Adult, which
went all the way to number one, and I had
a different, unique sound and the video for that. I
got talk to you about this before, but you travel
like a block and half an actual group had delivered
a cup of coffee in that video right there, and
at the end you do that stars jump over the car,
which is pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
I mean, you know I invented that. Did you really.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
Now that was going to look big back in the day?
Oh that's where you got You got that from there,
and that was kind of joke. They're like, hey man,
you let's we're done, But what else you gonna do?
I go slide across that that car and I was like,
are you serious, and I was like, they're like, yeah,
So I just.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Took off running and did and they were filming it.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
That's how that made the video. It was just a
joke really, but it just made it in there.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
So this summer, you're you spend a lot of time
with the Road of sugar Land.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
Yes, sugar Land is a fantastic group, a great bunch
of people. Their entire organization is top notch and and
that's where they're why they're so successful, right you know,
it's just great people to work with and very talented
and they bring massive amounts of people to the show.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
So they've been a lot of.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Fun, good and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything
right now.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yeah, Christian is such a nice guy. He is.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
That's a great dude.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Yeah. I know everybody talks about Jennifer, but Christian is
one of the best musicians I've ever heard.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Yeah, he's so talented.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
I mean, Jennifer's is the pretty one, got the we've
got the boys and but yeah, and the talent too.
But there is a side of Christian. You know, maybe
a lot of people haven't seen, but it's got the
town he does. This is what Billy courage and right now.
But the name of the latest scene is it's called
a little bit of Everything.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Which really mean people were crazy, and.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
Yeah, some of that selful stuff I don't and a
couple others. There's a song called everything. I hope you
hear on there. It's my favorite, really hard just the
song itself, you know, the way I was recorded and
how simply it was written and and.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
I don't know, it's just one of my favorites. I
hope you check it out.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
We will check it out thanks to see Brousle.
Speaker 1 (08:25):

and nine where I got to sit down with Billy
Carrington in the studio. We get some more old interviews
coming up. And in fact, if you haven't checked out other
