Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, if you're a Tim mcraw fan, you found the
perfect podcast for today, Bob Piggott Radio. I'm Bob thinking Yeah.
The subject today is Tim mcgrawl Future Country Music Hall
of Famer Tim mcgrawl. Tim first came to our attention
in radio back in nineteen ninety three. Has it really
been that long? Boy? It doesn't seem like it. He's
had so far, he's had over thirty number one hits.
A lot of people have not heard his debut album.
(00:21):
I'm telling you go out and get it, stream it
because it's got some great songs. One of my favorite
songs on his debut album, which is simply called Tim
McGraw It's Easy to Remember, is a song called memory Lane.
Great song. Should have been a single, should have been
a hit, it just wasn't. And by the way, that
song was co written by a guy who you may
know by the name of Joe Diffy. Anyway, Tim mcgrawl
didn't make it big until this second album, Not a
(00:43):
Moment Too Soon, which of course contained his first number
one song, Don't Take the Girl. Remember you had to
watch the video to find out what happened to the girl.
It was a cliffhanger. In a song we didn't know
until we saw the video. Anyway, great album from Tim McGraw,
And here's something you may not know about Tim. Tim
was in danger of lose his record deal because the
first album, as Tim says it was, nobody bought it
(01:04):
and they were going to drop Tim. But suddenly, with
Don't Take the Girl, he hit number one, and boy,
the rest is country music history and something else that's
pretty cool about country music history. Tim arrived in Nashville
on a Greyhound bus the day that his hero passed away,
the day that Keith Whitley passed away. I had a
chance to talk to Tim last year before his big tour,
and we got on the subject of talking about George Straight.
(01:27):
As you can imagine, everybody loves George, especially Tim.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
George is one of my heroes. Of course, He's been
one of my heroes since gosh. I was well right
to beginning of high school. I guess when he came out,
and always been a huge George Straight fan, and I
was lucky enough. Faith and I both were lucky enough
to I spent three years with him on a stadium tour,
three years in a row, and some of the best
times of my life was tensing myself standing on the
(01:51):
side of the stage, knowing that I just got off
the stage and now I'm watching George straight. I mean,
it's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
I remember seeing in San Antonio and you came down
and it was for the George Strait Music Festival on
Labor Day weekend. You played down there.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, it's great memories. I mean, gosh,
one year the Dixie Chicks were on with us, and
one year of His Faith, and gosh, one year it
was Kenny was on there.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
We had a lot of a lot of fun on
those tours. Kenny I especially had some fun on one
of those shows in particular.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
I wasn't going to bring that up, but now that
you brought it up, you want to go ahead and tell.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Everybody, Oh, we'll let that.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
One l okay, And if you don't know what happened,
well you can google it. Let's just put it that way.
He didn't keep Kenny out of the Hall of Fame.
Leu's put it that way right there. Now. When it
comes to acting, Tim has been a pretty big surprise,
right of course, the big major role that it got
where everybody started paying attention to him when it came
to his acting, Chops was Friday Night Lights Man, What
a great movie, and oh yeah he was acting because
(02:51):
he played a mean dad. You know this, and a
lot of Tim's movies he plays a father. One of
my favorite Tim McGraw movies is a movie that really
nobody saw. It was a Disney movie called tomorrow Land,
where once again Tim played a bother. But we're looking
for some more movies with Tim in the near future.
And also when it comes to TV series, how about
eighteen eighty three. Now, I got on the subject of
(03:12):
eighteen eighty three with Tim because I was hoping that
he would kind of spill the beans and talk about
maybe there's another sequel or there'd be a flashback on
Yellowstone with a character that he played in eighteen eighty three.
So I just simply asked him Tim, anything new coming
up with Taylor Sheridan Not.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yet, nothing with Taylor yet, but there's been really great
stuff and maybe something with Faith and I down the
road even further.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Well, I got Faith knocked me out. I never knew
that Faith could act in watching the TV series eighteen
eighty three, and I thought, my goodness, that's something we've
been missing for a long time. Of course she was
in the Stafford Wives, but that was just a perfect
row for both of you guys.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
It was so much fun. I mean, when we read
the script, we fell in love with it. We knew
we had to do it, we knew we wanted to
do it. We knew it was gonna be a lot
of hard work, and it was. It's probably the hardest
job you've ever had in our lives. And I grew
up working in cotton fields and rice field and I
thought that was hard work. But it was tough, but
it was so much fun. I mean, I grew up
(04:09):
riding horses, so being on horseback every day for fourteen
hours a day was a lot of fun for me.
And then Faith got fantastic at driving the wagon.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Now, one of the projects that him was hinting about
it and in the interview was a brand new Netflix series
where he was going to play a bull rider. But
we just got this in today. Tim has been forced
to step away from that television show about bull riding
due to ongoing recovery from an injury. Sustainful. He was
on tour last year, fifty seven years old, and you
got to admit it when you're fifty seven, man, Thanks,
(04:38):
get a little tough on your body. But he just
underwent double knee surgery earlier this year and he's focusing
on getting better. Of course, he's got the best nurse around,
he's got faith hell. But hopefully he'll be back up
very soon. Even though he has stepped away from that
role in the TV series, but bull Riding the series
is still going to happen. He is going to remain
an executive producer of this show, and he's a determined
(05:00):
to stay positive and watch it from the sidelines, so
to speak. But trust me, Tim will be back on
the big screen and the little screen very very soon anyway.
Great entertainer and future Country Music Hall of Famer that
is Tim McGraw. And full disclosure here, Tim gave me
a guitar for my birthday last year. Autograph guitar. In fact,
(05:21):
I'm staring at it right now. Tim McGraw, what is
your favorite timmcgrel song? Do you have one? Oh? Yeah,
I've got a bunch of them on my playlist. We'll
see you on the radio little bit later. Remember Follow
