Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Bob Picket Podcast. I'm Bob Pickett. I'm
having a lot of fun putting this podcast together and listen.
If you have any suggestions for me, draw me an
email Bob Picket at iHeartMedia dot com. We're going back
and discovering old interviews that I've done throughout the years.
One of my favorite singer songwriters, in fact, I try
to see him whenever he's in the area, is Rodney Crow.
I just love Rodney's music, is the way he puts

(00:22):
songs together, puts words together. There's nobody like Rodney Crow.
He stopped by The Broken Spoke when he was in
town a number of years ago and got a chance
to sit down and visit with him for about an hour.
And here's just a small segment of that interview. I
asked Rodney about one of my favorite songs that he's written.
You may not know that Rodney wrote this, but the
Tim McGraw hit, the Tim McGraw song that went all

(00:45):
the way to number one. Please remember me. You want
to know the real story behind that song? Oh yeah,
based on a true story. It's part of that interview
with Rodney Crowe.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Can I ask you about another one of your big hits,
Please Remember Me by Tim McGraw. You made a lot
of money off of his version of that, an't you? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
But I spent it all, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
But he sings it with Patty Lovelas that I keep
hearing that was supposed to be a duet between Tim
and somebody else and just didn't happen. If you heard
that story.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
I don't know about that, Okay. I don't know that
Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville did it first, did they really?

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah? They did a do it? How's their version? Do
you like it?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I like their version, but for some reason it got
shot down. It was it was intended to be a
single that got shot down, which cleared I'm pretty sure
cleared the way for Tim to get it and Patty
you know. But you know what, now many people have

(01:47):
heard my version of it, which is pretty good.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Well, I love your version, I thought, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
My version of it was as far as our record
goes up. You know, I can be critical of my
stuff and go, you know, like about half of what
I do. Who loves what they do?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
But again, it's that honesty that you convey when you
sing your own material. You're singing from the heart.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Yeah, yeah, well that turned out good, and I owe
that to my wife, Claudia. You know, I tried to
break up with Claudia foolishly. She had the best line
about it. You know, it's like it was, you know,
writing that song was like putting a post it note
on the refrigerator that said we're through. You know, I

(02:32):
didn't have the courage to say I don't think this
is working out. So I wrote Please Remember Me and
played it for Claudia and she said, that's a good song,
she said, but I don't accept it. She said, you're smart,
go figure out what it is that you want. We
belong together. You'll figure it out. Wow and amazing, to

(02:56):
which I said, nobody tells me what to do, so
you know, I went off. A couple of weeks later,
she came in the studio where I was working, wisely,
looking like a million bucks, and I went, oh my god,
I'll try to break up with her. And we have
not been separate since.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
I got a good song out of my foolishness.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
I would want to say, be foolish, but please just
keep giving us more good songs.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Well, I'm gonna be foolish.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Great Rodney Crowd just just amazing. And again, if you've
never seen Rodney in concert, go by it and sim
He's written so many great songs and he's got a
couple of books out there. There's a book it's called
Word for Word and it really digs into Rodney song
and is writing a talent. And also another great book
by Rodney Crowd is called Shaddaburry Sidewalks. Now, if you

(03:50):
like to listen to my complete interview with Rodney, like
I said, we sit down for an hour that broke
and spoke a few years back, you can listen to
it on the other podcast Tales The Broken Spoke I Picket.
I'll be back with a brand new podcast tomorrow, Bob
Picket Radio, and remember, catch up with me on Instagram
Bob Picket Radio on Instagram and check out those video
interviews too, Bob Picket Radio on my YouTube channel. And

(04:12):
we'll see you later today on iHeart Country stations all
