(00:00):
Welcome to Check with Chip, broughtto you by retire Smart. I'm Chip
Maxwell. Someone has written a bookabout James Scurlock and Jake Gardner. I
have not read it, but apparentlythe premise is that there was some sort
of balance or symmetry to their deaths. No, no, no, no
(00:21):
no. Here's an excerpt from mybook, Fix It Now, Rediscover natural
law and get America out of itscultural death spiral. The death in twenty
fourteen of African American Michael Brown inFerguson, Missouri, is considered the national
breakout event for the Black Lives Mattermovement. Hands Up, Don't Shoot was
(00:46):
the rallying cry. The whole thingwas a lie. Brown was not surrendering
with his hands up pleading don't shootwhen he was killed. Browne was eighteen
six feet four inches and two hundredand ninety two pounds. He robbed a
convenience store, assaulting a clerk inthe process. A white police officer saw
(01:10):
someone Brown matching the description of therobbery suspect and tried to stop him.
Brown leaned into the cruiser, attackedthe officer and tried to get his gun.
Brown was shot in the hand andfled. The officer pursued and caught
up with Brown. Brown was movingtoward the officer aggressively, not surrendering,
(01:33):
when he was fatally shot. Theleft erupted. Protests became violent. Pro
football players in Saint Louis, fifteenmiles from Ferguson, ran onto the field
for a game, holding their handsup in protest. The local prosecutor reviewed
the case and concluded there was nobasis to charge the officer with wrongdoing.
(01:57):
The left was furious. It wantedthe office destroyed. A grand jury was
convened. President Obama sent in anarmy of FBI agents and federal attorneys to
nail the officer. The result, the officer was exonerated. Yet in twenty
twenty, George Floyd fuelled BLM.Rioters in Omaha wrote Michael Brown in the
(02:23):
street in huge letters, as ifBrown was an innocent martyr to deadly police
racism. Some of those rioters attackeddowntown Omaha businesses. They smashed the giant
glass windows of white bar owner JakeGardner's establishment. Gardner went out to confront
(02:43):
them. Video from surveillance cameras capturedthe confrontation on the street Gardner asked the
crowd to move along. Some remainedcombative. He lifted his shirt to display
a gun. There was a strugglein which Gardner ended up on the ground
two warning shots, and the assailantsbacked off. As Gardner got up,
(03:05):
a young black man named James Scurlockjumped him from behind and applied a chokehold.
Gardner shouted at Scurlock to get off. Scurlock refused. Gardner fired his
gun over his shoulder at Scurlock, hitting him in the neck and killing him.
Scurlock became Omahaws, Michael Brown,or George Floyd, a martyr to
(03:27):
systemic racism. There were press conferences, protests, and t shirts Justice for
James. As happened in Ferguson, the local prosecutor examined the evidence and concluded
that the accused had done nothing wrong. The prosecutor determined that Gardner had acted
in self defense. Also as happenedin Ferguson, the left erupted. Social
(03:53):
media exploded with wild and unfounded claimsabout Gardner being a white supremacist who was
shouting racial slurs when he proudly murderedScurlock. A grand jury was convened it
indicted Gardner from manslaughter, terroristic threats, and other offenses. Gardner killed himself.
(04:15):
Perhaps Gardner had other demons tormenting him, or he concluded, they have
ruined my business and my life.I'm a white Trump supporter. They are
going to twist or trample the lawuntil they get me. I'm not going
to be their sacrificial spectacle. Inthe five day interim between the grand jury
(04:36):
indictment and the suicide, a blacklawyer who was a Nebraska state senator complained
that in the future he would adviseclients with warrants to demand the Jake treatment,
meaning tell authorities you'll surrender when youfeel like it. Gardner had been
living on the West Coast. Afterreceiving sixteen hundred death threats, authority,
(05:00):
he gave him time to turn himselfin the Chake treatment. Let's review the
Chake treatment. A decorated veteran confrontedthugs threatening to demolish his business because of
something unrelated to him or his business. He showed a weapon, but did
not respond with violence. Apparently thatwas the terroristic threat by the guys.
(05:25):
Surrounded by terrorists attacking his business. When attacked and knocked to the ground.
He fired warning shots. When anattacker put him in a chokehold and would
not let go, he fired afatal shot, deemed self defense by a
prosecutor of sterling reputation a Democrat forthose keeping score politically and presuming that an
(05:49):
evil conservative Republican let the racist killeroff. The prosecutor had been elected and
reelected county attorney in four consecutive electionbecause people of all political stripes respect his
judgment and professionalism. But that wasnot good enough. Theo woke race warriors
(06:09):
would not quit. A kangaroo courtgrand jury was convened to deliver a political
result demanded by the angry left.A law abiding citizen who served our country
in the military, defended himself andhis business from a rampaging mob, was
scrutinized by the justice system and foundjustified. Then was railroaded into an indictment
(06:34):
for manslaughter and driven to suicide. That's the Jake treatment. Scarlock had a
criminal record. He had served timefor violent crimes, including an armed home
invasion robbery that was reduced to burglary. He had methamphetamine and cocaine in his
system when he died. None ofthat means he deserved to die, but
(06:58):
he was not an innocent dove.He died because he was engaged in violent
criminal activity, rioting and then attackingsomeone in a life threatening way. The
left ignores the wrongdoing of the GeorgeFloyd's, Michael Browns, and James Scurlocks
to serve the narrative that a racewar is being conducted by vicious whites against
(07:21):
innocent blacks. The wrongful death ofany citizen at the hands of police is
intolerable, but the left wants totear the country apart, using rare exceptions
to promote the lie that America isa racist nation with racist cops. If
racism was systemic, Barack Obama wouldnot have been elected president. He won
(07:47):
twice because tens of millions of whitesvoted for him over his white opponents.
That could not happen in a nationwith system make racism. The racist system
would have won, not Obama.Do black lives matter, of course,
(08:09):
but I'll take BLM seriously when itdenounces the killing of roughly five thousand black
mails every year by black mails. That is the slaughter on which to focus.
If you value black lives, ifyou like what you hear. Go
