Speaker 1 (00:02):
Good evening everyone, and welcome to Chillicothe High School.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm Shane Colmes.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
I'm flying solo here this evening as i'm court side
here in LSB Hatton Memorial Gymnasium, And as I say,
court side, it's kind of fitting here this evening, as
I appreciate you joining me here on fourteen ninety WVX
on the am side ninety two point seven FM, and
of course worldwide with iHeartRadio. And I say, it's kind

(00:27):
of fitting for me to be sitting courtside here just
about ten fifteen feet off to Chilicithy bench because this
evening we're getting started a little bit later because of
a great ceremony. I just had a chance to witness
as they've named the floor here Thomas M. Cuppett Court
the great Coach Cuppet, a long time Cavalier and wore

(00:47):
so many hats here for Chilicathy. Really really enjoyed reading
and hearing some of the stories and some of the
different things here.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Coach Cuppet passed back.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
In twenty twenty, but you look back at his incredible
legacy here for the Cavaliers. He coached the basketball program
from nineteen sixty nine to nineteen eighty one. He starved
as the ad until he retired there in ninety three
and in the basketball career, one hundred and eighty eight wins,
three league titles, They made ten district appearances and three

(01:19):
regional appearances. So then I learned that he also was
involved in football and track and golf and had over
four hundred total wins in terms of chilicothe sports. Just
unbelievable accomplishment. And so again it's fitting here in the
Great hatt Memorial Gymnasium that will now have the Thomas
M Cup at court. So congratulations to his family. It

(01:40):
was nice to see them out on the court and
getting to do that. So now as we move into
tonight's action, the Chilicothee Cavaliers welcome Hillsboro. Hillsborough comes in
two and o here in the fac opener for both
teams A two and oh in the non league, and
that they've certainly got off to a nice start. This
is a group that the they're very high on that

(02:01):
it's a group that's very experienced. It's been at the
varsity level together for a while now. They only graduated
one starter from a year ago, and you know now
they come in off of a win over Wilmington and
Waverley and Cholicathe comeing in at one and three. But
if you've been with us here on wb X following
the Cavaliers throughout the young season, it's been a pretty

(02:23):
good one, you know. They they opened the season at
the Zane Trace Tip All Classic with a win over
a Dinah. They followed that up with three incredible road trips.
I mean, you talk about testing yourself in the non league,
and about an eight day span, they went to New Lexington,
to Warren and to Marysville. Just to give you a
little background on that New Lexicton and Warren. They returned

(02:45):
quite a bit from last year and those are the
two teams that played for the Division two District championship.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
And then you throw in Marysville and that size of school.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
They've they've they've really been tested here over the last
couple of weeks and had every opportunity to win. Those
last two games came up a little short. The Warren
game was unbelievable. Chila Coffee ended up blowing a lead
late in regulation, game went to overtime, and Chili Coofee
comes up on the long end of that one and
then the other night they go on the road to Marysville.

(03:14):
They play a really good first half league twenty two
to fourteen and halftime, only to see the Monarchs come
back in the third quarter and really kind of take
it to the Cabs. But you know, if you add
it all up and you enter FAC play, I think
Coach Beard has to feel pretty good about the way
his team has played. There's been some individual contributions from

(03:36):
a lot of different Cavaliers, and I think that's when
this team's going to be its best, when Coach Beard
can get something from all seven, eight nine guys that
he runs out there over on the Hillsborough side. Just
to give you a little heads up on what the
Cavaliers are facing tonight. The Indians are led by their
outstanding guard play Tate Davis average fifteen points a year ago,

(03:57):
he was the FAC Player of the Year, also dished
how six assists and shot ninety three percent from the
free throw line. A keep aid in mind for the
returning All Ohio guard because in their opening and win
against Wilmington, Davis had twenty six points and check out
this night, he was seventeen of nineteen from the free
throw line, so again young man shoots at ninety three percent.

(04:20):
The Calves are not only going to have to guard
and keep him out of the middle and defending from
the floor, but you certainly are going to have to
keep him off the free throw line. Davis has joined
there in the back court by an outstanding sophomore guard,
Jack Holland, and as a freshman a year ago, he
also averaged fifteen a game and was an all District performer.
So the Calves have been tested by some really really

(04:42):
good backcourts to this point, and tonight in the fac opener,
I think it'll be another one.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
It's going to be a busy night for me. I
look forward to it.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
When I'm done here calling what we hope the Cavalier win,
I'll be heading over to the station to join Vanessa
is on the Acrid Heating, Cooling, Plumbing scoreboard show. Chilicothie fans,
you'll want to check that out. To Shaun Bencon, the
girls basketball coach here at Chilicothee A. Vanessa will have
an interview with him this evening, probably early in the show.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
I don't want to speak for her.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
That'll probably be early in the show when they're done
with their WKKJ tonight, which is Uniota up at West Fall.
You check that out over on the sister station, WKKJ.
If it doesn't come right after that, I know sometimes
last week we went about nine forty five, So make
sure you check that out again. Coach Benson talking a
little Lady Calves basketball. I look forward to that and

(05:37):
I know you do as well. Well, we're coming up
about three minutes to go here in the pregame, and
one thing I wanted to share with the fans. I
believe I just heard an official come over to the
scores table and they're calling a technical on the Chillicothee

(05:57):
Cavaliers for dunking and warm ups.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Again, this is you know, it is a rule.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
A lot of people think it's an outdated rule now
that we have breakaway rims and you know, kids dunk
in the game, but nonetheless, it is.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
A rule, and you know, you you you've got to
be careful doing that.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
And the officials evidently had walked out and seeing a
Cavalier dunking, So that looks like it's going to be
uh you know, I just mentioned ironically the pre throw
shooting the Tate Davis. It looks like We're going to
start to gain here momentarily with with Tate Davis shooting
some pre throws. So I'll make sure coming out of

(06:33):
this first break that I give some details to you
and make sure that we're that we're all in the
same page with that one, well about two minutes ago,
and we'll take a time out and I'll be right
back with some starting lineups. You're listening to Chilicoffee Boys
basketball on wv X Chilicoffee.

Welcome, Welcome back in here, Chilicothee High School.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
I'm Shane Combs.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Just out standing job by the Chilicothee Pep band there
on the national anthem.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Both teams now make their way.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Back to their bench and the non starters will stand
out with the cheerleaders form in the tunnel. We're gonna
get to the starting line. If so, let's go ahead
and go over those for you first. For your Chilicothee Cavaliers,
five ten senior guard one Miller will run the point
for Coach Bear, joining him in the backcourt, a pair
of off guards will be six three sophomore Caden Cox,

(10:58):
six to two juniors Hooper stone King at a forward
position became Badger six three senior, and then Daniel Sism
in the post a six to fourth senior. Once again
for Coach Beard and the Cavaliers it's Miller, Cox, stone King,
Badger and Sism over on the Hillsboro side. As I said,

(11:18):
they're in the opening. They're led by their outstanding senior
point guard, Tate Davis. He's joining the back court by
an outstanding the sophomore talent Jack palland in the post,
there'll be junior forward Xander Lake, also forward, also a
junior Mayson the dumper, and then a senior guard Brayden Hunter.

(11:39):
Once again for the Indians, it's Davis, Holland, Lake, Dumper,
and Hunter. As I said before, hills Though coming in
to an ochello kafee one and three. But this is
the FAC opener, so obviously a big deal. People trying
to get off to a good start, teams all around
the league as they they start to turn off the

(12:00):
lights here as the Chilicothee Cavaliers will be introduced. If
you look back at the FAC a year ago, Miami
Trace wins the conference at nine and one. Washington Courthouse
was eight and two. This Hillsboro team, as I mentioned,
returns four starters. They were six and four, Jackson was
five and five, Chilicothee two and eight, McLain zero to ten,

(12:23):
and again you feel like chilicothe two and eight a
year ago, as I watched them here in the early
going much much improved. I expect that number to go up.
But again I say that at the same time, I
think I have to remind everybody that the the FAC
is a conference that I feel like it's got a
lot of balance top to bottom. I think that McClain

(12:45):
basketball team is going to be better than I know
Miami Trace, Courthouse, hillsbro and Jackson, and I talked to
people from those schools. Each one of those schools feel
like that they've got a chance to be really, really good.
I'd watched Miami Trace earlier in the year, very very impressive.
Then with Guthrie in the middle and so forth. So
first things first here as we go to action, Remember

(13:08):
I talked to you in the first thing, it looked
like we had a situation where chili coffee was hot,
dunky and warm ups.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Again, as the officials.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Were coming out of the tunnel, they ended up catching
chili coffee dunking there, and obviously that's a technical and
they went ahead and came to the score table and
put that on the calves.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
So Tate Davis, who shot at.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Ninety three percent a year ago, is going to start
out at the free throw line. So kind of a
unique start here this evening. His first technical free throw
is good. The senior point guard will get another second
shot up, no good. So all things considered, with that

(13:56):
good a free throw shooter going to the line, flooding
the pair. Hillsboro leads it one nothing, and then because
of that technical.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
There'll be no jump ball. They'll go side out of
bounds and Hillsboro take the first possession.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
As we're under what he bell one Davis at the
back court, guarded by Miller. Davis across the timeline, enters
it to the yelbow.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
That's Hunter. Now it's over to Lake. He'll try a
right elbow jumper and he's got it.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
And Xander Lake just a little elbow jumper uncontested.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
They're knocks it down three nothing Hillsborough.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
That comes Cocks of Chili Coothe Chilicothee in their home
whites here in their home opener this evening. Hillsborough and
the road red Stone king Over on the left side
used a sis of ball screen. He wanted sim to roll.
They weren't on the same page. They throw it away.
Out comes Davis of Hillsborough by side of TWL and
he'll try a deep three.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
No good, Badger up for the rebound.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
It looks like Hillsborough came over the top of him
and knocked it out of bounds. He'll be Chili Coofee
basketball correction. They're gonna say Badger touched it last. Hillsboro
is gonna have it underneath throwing basket. I thought they
signaled the other way.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Now I think they're still okay. So that is Hillsborough
basketball and Belle dump.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Now they go into in the lane to a lake
his post move, sysm does a.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Nice guy bodying up. Ball goes out of bounds.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Off of the misshot and Chillicafee will take possession.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Hillsborough looks like they pick it up.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
That's kind of a token man about three quarter court
Miller across the timeline here.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Now we're gonna have a running jump comes right side.
Badger hits Sism in the middle to break the pressure.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Now Stone King's gonna go hard baseline to the right.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Shot up.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
No good rebound by Hillsboro out comes Davis, pushing into end.
He draws some contact, no foul. Ball comes off. Chilli
Coothee wins possession. Badger pushes it back the.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Other way all the way to the rim. He loses
it because back and forth we go a little bit slippy.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Now Hillsboro nearly throws it away, but Holland runs it down.
He'll drive baseline, look the baseline kick and he turns
it over. So three nothing, hillsbro We played a minute
and a half and it's just been teams turning it
over back and forth. Miller will try to settle him
down again. Hillsborough running and jumping. They just leave stone
King alone. His three ball from the left wing.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
No good rebound for the Indians. Now Davis will kind
of walk it up. Three nothing.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Hillsbrough coming up on a six minute mark of the
first quarter, high entry into the lake.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Now it's goes left side. It's Davis out top Holland.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
He'll pull up from the left elbow blocked by Cocks.
Out comes silicafee at stone King on the other end.
He misses the layup. Hillsborough has some numbers. If they
look to push, how it's Davis penetrate off the left
hand and Miller's going to be called for the handchat

(16:58):
five forty six first if worder Hillsborough leads it pretty
nothing Hammon enters the game for Chilicothe, going to replace
stone King. Davis will inbound from underneath the Hillsborough basket.
Hillsboro runs a little one to four low set that
they want to get it into Lake and he lost
it on the catch, knocked out of bounds by Chili coffee.

(17:24):
Davis will once again be the trigger man here. This
time it's a box set for Hillsboro. We'll screen the
screener action. They're gonna throw it all the way attop
the highland. Who went up to make a nice catch
there they bought through that. It was good help from
Sism there on the ball screen. How it's down low
to Lake and his shot up no good, but we're
gonna have a Chili coofee. Foul. Looks like that's on Sism.

(17:51):
Sism had done a nice job hedging on the ball
screen as he tried to recover. Didn't get enough help
from his teammates there and as a result, he was
a step late getting back caused the foul. Xander Lake
with the free throw line. His first free throw is good.
Xander Junior provides some nice size for the for the Onions.

(18:14):
Second free throw up but also good. Four for Lake
five nothing Hillsbro Chilicothie is still looking for their first
basket of the night. Badger are down in the right
corner going to get fouled. Just on the floor, there
be Chilicothee side out of bounds right in front of

(18:36):
the Hillsborough bench. You know, I'm sitting right court side
by the chilicothe bench. I'm calling this action ChIL Coffee
my left or right with Hillsboro coming back to my
right to left.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Out top.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
It's Hammond guarded hard by Howland. Wanted Cocks there. Davis
does a good job taking away hit, saysm on the
high post, a little give and go back to Hammon
and he lost it out of bounds.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Now there's a little confusion on the call.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
They talked to like there was a flop there on
the Indians, and I think everyone thought it was going
the other way. They're actually going to because of that
reward the basketball back to Chilicothe. Should have a Chilicothe
ball down on the baseline. Hillsborough coach there, coach Josh
Allen wanting an explanation. Now, I guess it's coming back

(19:36):
the other way the Hillsborough, So I'm not sure what
the call was if I'm being on, so the two
officials are going to get okay, So now I got
the end. Coach Beard was wanting the explanation, and because
of my great seat here, I'm able to hear and
give you guys the explanation. It was a flop called
on Hillsborough, but the first time the flop is called,

(20:00):
it is a warning, so it's not a foul call,
so it's just a warning. The play is called as is,
which was off at Chili Coffee, so it's gonna be
hillsbro basketball coming back the other way. Davis pushes it
hard into the to the front court high post Lake.
Lake goes at one on one against Sism. Spins steps through.
Pretty good defense from Sism, shot his miss Badger out

(20:22):
with the rebound for Chili Cooffee. Cox will look to
push it up the right side. Four point fifty six
first quarter. Hillsborough leads it five to nothing. Sism gets
a post touch, He'll look to go one on one,
throws the diagonal out the badger. He'll try a three
ball too strong rebound by Hammon. He'll bring it back out.
It's Cox over on the right side. Cox drives hard

(20:42):
to the left. He pulls up elbow jumper. That's too
strong rebound Lake Chilokafie can't get the the the lid
off the basket. There four thirty two, first quarter, five nothing,
Hillsborough Davis left side of it's jumper. He'll play two
man game with Lake. Now it's over two Hunter Davis

(21:02):
over right in front of the Chillicothee student section. And
I had a white out and real impressive student support here.
Davis's drive too strong rebound momentarily by Chillicothe. But I
think Miller might have stepped on the inline as he
tried to come out with it, and it looks like
Hillsborough ball underneath. So at four thirteen, first quarter, five nothing,

(21:25):
Hillsboro Davis is going to be the trigger man on
the obie under all the way out top Lake over
to Hunter. He drives to the right side, shot up
no good good box out from Sism. Out comes Miller
of Chillicothe Again. Jili Cothie looked at for first points
of the night. Miller off a ball stream from Sism,

(21:47):
goes left side Badger.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Badger will pull it back out.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Now he'll look to go one on one. He has
hamming in the in the corner. He drives hard right.
Holland tried to draw the charge, but it's going to
be called for the block.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Three forty seven.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
That's Holland's first three forty seven first quarter here five
to nothing Hillsborough. Cox will embounding on the side, ob
tho it all the way to back court to Miller.
Miller will come across the timeline guarded by Dumpert. Miller's
going to play a two man game there with him,
but Dumford's ball pressure made it hard for him to

(22:26):
go off of that. Now it's going to be Cox
deep from the left corner for three. No good out
comes Davis of Hillsborough. He pushes it left side.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
It's Hunter. Hunter will try a three ball, no good.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Fight for the rebound out comes Lake of Hillsboro with
it his shot up.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
No good. Sism with a rebound.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Sism tried to push it off the dribble, knocked away,
loose ball to the floor.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
He throws it up to Cox.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Hillsborough wanted to travel a Sism was on the ground
with it. Now it's badger left corner. That ball went
all the wing in and came out until the Cofie
still hasn't scored five nothing, Hillsborough. We've played five minutes.
As we go under three minute mark here in the
first quarter, Davis with a deep three long rebound the Cocks.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
He'll push to the left hand all.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
The way to the rim, and now the Cavaliers are
on the board five to two, Hillsborough, two forty four left.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
First quarter. Howland off the ball string from Lake. Now
it's Davis out top.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
He'll go back to Holland and he'll shoot it from
way out there. That long rebound is going to be
last touched by the Indians. Is Holland shot one from
the first row of the student section there? So Chili
Cooffee basketball five too, Hillsborough. We're two thirty four in counting.

(23:44):
Here in the first quarter, Miller will walk it up
for Chillicothe. He's going to play two men here with
Sism up top. He actually rejects the ball screen and
penetrates deep into the paint out to him, and now
out of Sism, he'll try a three ball, and why
not Daniel s shows off a little bit of his range.
Lake kind of dared him to shoot it. Daniel said,

(24:05):
why not? Three ball were tied at five two minutes
first quarter. Good ball pressure from laud Miller. He calls
the turnover, out comes Hammon. Hammon downloaded, says them, and
he lays it in nicely job, nicely done there. Good
job by one Miller causing the turnover. He got it
out to Hammond, who hit, saysm running the floor. Well.
Chili Coffee with its first lead of the night at

(24:26):
seven to five, coming back the other way right here
in front of me. Cayden Cox just got a little
handsy in the ball pressure. Cayden picks up his first foul,
team fourth so one fifty one remaining first quarter. Next
Chila Coffee foul is going to put Hillsborough on the line.
Remember I talked about the guard's ability for hillsbro to

(24:47):
shoot the free throws really really at a high percentage.
That's going to be something to really keep an eye on.
Very very important that they're able to guard without filing.
I'm going to have another Chili Coffee sub here. Cart
Ad Liggan checks into the game, Gonna get one Miller
a break.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
All the way into the back court.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
Tay Davis, the outstanding senior point guard for Hillsbrow, will
walk it up off of a ball stream there from Lake,
but he picks it up. Now captain into the game
for Hillsbro gives it the way to Holland. Holland looks
to go one on one down Hill goes to his
left shot up, No good, but the foul. I think

(25:33):
they're gonna get badger. Let me see the number reported
here over the table. Yes, Cam Badger, and uh, that's
Cam's first. It's gonna send Jack Hallen to the line again.
If you weren't with me in the pre game. Jack
is a sophomore guard who's a freshman. A year ago
average fifteen points, five and a half assist.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
His first free throw is good.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
I talked about the importance of keeping these good free
throw shooters off of the line, and this will already
be the sixth free throw.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Attempt, and that's also good.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Five of six now in the quarter, I'm keeping mind
two of those were off of the technical for Chilicoti
dunking and warm ups. Seven to seven ninety seconds remading
first quarter, Stone King has re entered the game. He's
got it out top. It goes right side Ligan. Hillsboro
has gone into a little bit of a zone with
a little bit of a trap and it's called Chilicoti.

(26:28):
Some problems as the Cavs throw it away. Davis nice
two hand chest pass all the way down to a
streaking halle and he lays it in nine seven.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Hillsborough.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
We come up on one minute to play stone King
across the timeline comes over right side, the Cox nearly
taken away by.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Captain how stone King out top. Cox will try a
deep three right side and he got it. Caden Cox, he.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
Has five Chilicoti leads at ten to nine. Remember Caden
back in the Waring game at twenty eight, so you
know he's got the ability to really really get it
going on the offensive end. Thirty eight seconds in counting Davis.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Back the other way.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
He looks to scoopid and Daniel says, the blocks it
out of bounds. Great health defense. So if the block
shot for SISM it will be Hillsborough ball out of bounds.
Thirty four point six remaining first quarter. Chili Coofee out
in front ten to nine. How top It's dumper goes

(27:29):
over to Lake Won a little baseline cut the Highland
nicely defended by Chili Coofee. Now'll give way to captain
twenty six seconds.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
I'll see if.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
Hillsborough wants to the last shot of the quarter. Here
Holland going against stone King looks to go on one
thought about the elbow jumper. Back out to Davis clock
at fifteen Davis guarded by Cox. Davis is going to
call for a high ball screen from Lake. Now Lake
leaves and it's Davis on the drive. He's captain right corner.

(27:59):
He tries a three ball we no good rebound by
Lake is shot up.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
No good.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Stone King out with the rebound, and that brings us
to the end of the first quarter after one Chillicote
ten the Hillsboro nine. You're listening to Chillicothee Boys basketball
on WBEs.

Speaker 3 (28:15):

Welcome back Chilcottie High School. Shane Colmes flying solo here tonight.
Greg Bigham helping out over the WKKJ side of Believe.
That's the UNIODA up at Westfall game. Speaking of WKKJ,
make sure you check out. I'll be with Vanessa later
after calling this game, I'll head over the station the
Accurate Heat and Cooling and Plumbing Scoreboard Show. If you

(29:13):
didn't hear me say it in the pre game, Chili
Coffee fans, you want to check that out. Coach Benson
from over on the Chilicothie Girls side will be joining
the show for an interview. Chilicothee leads it ten to
nine after first quarter of play. He had five points
for Kaden Cox and five points for Daniel Sissm and
Chili Coaffee will have possession here to start the second quarter.

(29:35):
Sism will inbound it to stone King and stone King
will go right side by Drie. They clear the right
side out. Badger looks to go one on one, gets
himself into the block. Now he'll kick it back out
Stone King for three, no good. Davis with the rebound.
Davis pushes it ahead again, but great effort from stone
King to get back and knock it away momentarily. But
when he did so, Holland came up with it and

(29:58):
he lays it in Hillsborough eleven until Kathie. Ten thirty
seconds into the second quarter, back come the Calves.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
It's hamming out top.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
He'll drive hard to the right hand and he'll draw
some contact. Let's see if they give it to him
on this shot. It was really close. The signal comes
up and yes, they're gonna reward him in the act
of shooting.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
So Andrew Hammond will go to the line.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
And shoot two for the Calves. Looks like Jan Miller
set to check in after this first free throw. First
free throw, no good. Miller does check in for stone King.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Hammon.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Second free throw is good. Tied to eleven seven, twenty
three to a halftime. Davis crossed the timeline guarded by Miller.
Good help from Badger there in the dribble gap. Now
it's Captain coming over left side. That's all the way
to Howland in the corner. He drives baseline reverse lay up,

(31:08):
nice smooth it says Holland kid along with Davis, very
very impressive back court. That basket gives Hillsbrough the two
point advantage once again. Thirteen eleven, Indians on top. Cox
brings it back up for the Cavaliers. We'll throw it
over to Badger sloppy with the ball out by high
court and Allan knocks it away and dives to the

(31:29):
floor and calls it the jump ball. Not sure if
Chilicothe just had trouble getting in their offensive set there
just got careless with the basketball. Great hustle from Jack
Holland of hills Brony causes the jump ball and the
possession are going to favor the Indians. Six forty nine,
second quarter, thirteen eleven. Hillsborough up on Chillicothe. They throw

(31:51):
it deep back into the back court. It'll be Davis
guarded by Miller. Davis comes up the right side, goes
right wing to Holland, back out to Davis. Davis will
try a deep three. He got it Kay Davis dials
it up off a good screen from Xander Lake. He
catches it and gets a quick release. Sixteen eleven Hillsboro

(32:13):
and Captain of Hillsborough is gonna be called for the
bump against one Miller as Miller was coming into the
scrimmage area. Hillsborough's second team foul here in the second quarter,
Dumpert and Hunter returned for Hillsboro. That'll be Miller bringing
it up across timeline. He drives hard down the middle,

(32:36):
left sided, stone King his three balls off the back.
Iron out comes Davis, try to go behind the back.
Stone King takes it away. Stone King coast to coast,
lays it in. Nice job, Cooper. Stone King unable to
get the three ball to fall early that time. He
uses his defense to go get an easy one. Let's
see if that layup will spark the shooter here. As

(32:56):
we move forward sixteen thirteen, Hillsboro out in front, Hollan
brings it back. Wanted to go left side, Dumper. Good
job of Badger on the denial. Hillsboro's going to open
it out to like a little open post extended.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
Out a little bit.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Howland back out it's Hunter again. Pretty good patients from
Hillsboro at that time. On the catch, Dumper just gets
a little bit of quick feet there and he travels.
I'm going to turn it back over to Chilikythe five
forty four is the Chili Coothe students let him know
about it on the turnover. There five forty four till halftime.

(33:31):
Hillsborough leads at sixteen thirteen. Miller all the way down
to the left cornerstone King, he shot, fakes, he drives
into that good footwork and up and undermove outstanding moved
Cooper stone King back to back buckets for him. Cuts
the Hillsboro lead to one at sixteen fifteen. Davis handling

(33:53):
it against Mill. That's a great matchup. They give it
the Lake, He fakes the handoff, he goes all the
way to the rim and a little gipsy dude lays
it in with a little English off the glass ender Lake.
Nice sized kid, but really igiled. Nice off the dribbled
player there eighteen fifteen Hillsborough. That comes Miller on the drive.
He's bumped by. I believe that's dumper. They're gonna get.

(34:19):
Captain's going to return for Hillsborough and Hammond will return
for Chilcathe. The foul that the Miller ends up drawing
is off of the dribble, so it's going to be
just a common foul.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Third Hillsborough foul of the second quarter.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
So to Chilicothie's going to get a baseline out of
bounds opportunity.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Miller throws it into the corner there to.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
Cox, Coach Beard urging him to take him to the hole.
He's going to pull up on the elbows jumper and
knock it down. That's a good match up there for Chilicothie,
as they got Cocks on Lake and he's able to
create some space and knock down the jumper. Cuts the
Hillsborough lead to one at eighteen seventeen. Cox now is
seven on the night right side.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
It's Howland.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
He wants to go one on one outstanding dump pass
on the bounce pass to Xander Lake. Chilicothee felt like
they blocked the shot. Officials disagreed here. I think they're
gonna get Cox on the foul and I believe.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
That's his second.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
The decision time for Coach Beard there a little bit
four thirty seven before half, and it looks like he's
gonna go and get Victor Hitchins off the Chili coofee bench.
Lake at the line here first free throw up and good,
so Hitchins is gonna get Cox. Unfortunately, those two files
will see how coach Beard handles that he's gonna get

(35:36):
him ber. Now let's see if he keeps him over
there for the full four thirty seven. Lake's second free
throw is also good. Twenty to seventeen Hillsbro out in
front seven of those points from the free throw line.
Stone King on the left side. He drives again, draws

(35:57):
two defenders out. Victor Hitchins right side history ball, no
good put back by cam Badger. Extremely athletic move there
as he goes up and avoids the over the back
and tips it in all in one motion. Cuts the
Hillsboro lead to twenty nineteen Van Miller and Davis really
going at it here, Miller doing a good job as
showing his hands. Howling over on the left side, he's

(36:21):
guarded by stone King. He brings it back out top.
Now he's going to turn and get instruction from the
Hillsborough bench on the other end.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Now Howan looks to go one on one left side.
It's Hunter.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
He'll drive middle, gets away maybe with a little bit
of an off arm, and he lays it in to
Lookathi not happy with that mess call. Nonetheless, Hundred lays
it in. Twenty two nineteen Hillsbro now it's hamming from
the left wing. He'll try a three ball and that
ball is going to go off of the rim and
go up over the backboard, which will automatically take it

(36:55):
back to the Indians.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
Three p.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
Thirty five remaining here in the first half, twenty two
two nineteen Hillsboro on top.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Davis coming up.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Lake wanted to give give him a ball screen in
the back court. Davis waves it off now into the
scrimmage area, drives hard to the middle, dumps it off
the lake.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Lake thought about the mid.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
Range jumper, skips it all the way over the Hunter
instead long rebound the stone King and he'll come out
with it. Stone King pulls up momentarily. The miller now
down low Hammon. Hammond went to the post move and
they said he took the extra step for the travel.
Chili Coithy turns it over still twenty two to nineteen Hillsborough.

(37:39):
We're coming up on the three minute mark here in
the first half.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Davis walks it up.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
Chilicothy's been able to hold him in pretty good check
so far, only four points, with one of those on
a free throw off the technical to start the game.
He tries to go one on one against Miller. They're
letting them both play. They're letting Miller bump, They're letting
Davis use the offense. And Davis uses that space and
knocks down the mid range jumper from the from the
left corner twenty four to nineteen. Hills Were out in

(38:08):
the front, Miller up top over on the right point
to stone King. He'll look to go one on one
kicks at corner to Miller. Now he'll drive hard, shot
up no good fight for the loose ball, and they're
gonna say him and touch that last one for the
offensive rebound on that dead boss sism of Chilikithy want

(38:31):
a return.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
He replaces Badger.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
Twenty four to nineteen, hillsbro two twenty remaining in the
first time. Davis in the full court against Miller, saysm
offers a little bit of help. Now it's back. They're
gonna play two man game with Davis there and Lake.
Now it's over to Highland on the left side. He
drives hard to the basket and he lays it in.

(38:57):
Jack Allen has six in the quarter ten in the game,
pushes the Hillsborough lead to twenty six nineteen under two
minutes now in the first half, Miller drives the right
hand shot up. No good, says I'm fighting for the
rebound out comes with Lego.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
Gives it to Davis.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Davis pushes it all the way ahead on the long
bounce pass, little skip pass over to Holland. Three balls
from the left side, No good out comes Chilicithy. Now
it's Hitchins. He'll hold it up and bring it back
to Miller. Coach Beard Haller's out the quick hit or play.
I'm going to run a high ball stream here with
saysm Now on the roll.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
The hits sism. He throws it right side.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
To Ham and Ham and drives all the way to
the hole and lays it in. Nice job, under control there.
Andrew Hammond thought about the three saw the opening of
the baseline, drives all the way and the layup cuts
the lead to five twenty six twenty one. Hillsbro coming
up on one minute to play here in the first half.
Davis comes right side, wants to hand off the Holland

(39:55):
how long will go right baseline, pull up, jumper in
and out rebound him to Chili Coothee. Miller pushed it
all the way up left side at stone King. He
drives baseline, leaves a beautiful bounce past the sism, but
the shot is blocked.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
Hillsborough comes out with it. They pushed it up right side.
It's captain.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Captain went to the baseline and they're gonna call the
bump there on the drive.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
I think they're gonna get Hitchens.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
So with forty five seconds to go, that's only Chili
Coffee's third teenth file.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
I believe Cox is gonna return here.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
It's gonna be Hillsborough ball on the baseline with forty
five seconds ago, Cox returning on defense.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
There has to be careful with those two files.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Inbound to Dixon and she's checked in here for hills
Bronownce Davis coming off of a curl move for three
ball comes Shorts outcome stone King with the rebound. He
drives hard on the euro step there and then they're
gonna call the offensive foul the charge. It looks like
Holland was set and a stone King tried to step through.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
They said he squared him.

Speaker 1 (41:00):
In the chest to draw the charge. So that turns
it back over to Hillsborough. Twenty six twenty one. Hillsborough
out in front thirty three seconds in counting here as
Davis brings it up against Miller, Tate Davis of Hillsborough
brings it across the timeline. Hillsbury probably like to have

(41:23):
the last shot with the ball. Pressure for Miller makes
that difficult. Sometimes Davis shoots a little floater up over Cox.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
No good.

Speaker 1 (41:31):
But the offensive rebound there from Dixon his shot, no
good out comes Cox. ChIL Coffee. You'll have eight seconds.
I don't know if they're aware of the clock.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
Now they are, so Cox is going to come off
to the ball street.

Speaker 1 (41:42):
He splits the double team, a little runner there at
the buzzer, up off the rim, and no good. We've
come to the half. Hillsborough twenty six, Chili Cofee twenty one.

they made an official here for the Thomas M. Cup
at court as they honored the longtime Cavalier coach and
athletic director and really just everything Chillichothe Cavaliers. Really cool
ceremony here in the pregame where had a lot of

(45:27):
family friends passed CHILICOTHI greats in terms of some of
the players here, and a nice ceremony given the family
a plaque and then the name now on the court
here at Chilicothe well deserved honor, just outstanding. You're listening
to fourteen ninety wb EX on the am side Chilicothe

(45:49):
Ohio ninety two point seven over in the FM, or
of course worldwide on your iHeartRadio. Certainly appreciate you being
with me here this evening. It's been a pretty good one.
It started with kind of a baz are technical. You
don't see it very often, but tonight they called the
technical in Chilcote.

Speaker 2 (46:06):
For dunking and warm up.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
So we started with a free throw or two free throws,
i should say, and I got Hillsboro on the board.
Chilicothie got off to a little bit of a slow start.
I'm sure I played a little bit of a role,
just kind of a weird start here, but Chilicotie settled
in and weathered the storm.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
I believe.

Speaker 1 (46:22):
Hillsborough scored the first five points of the game and
Chilicothe went several minutes without scoring, but they finally got
on the board and they actually took a ten to
nine lead at the end of the first quarter. End
of the second quarter, the back court of Hillsboro really started.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
To be a problem.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
If Tate Davis has been held in check pretty well,
I mean, does such a good job just handling the
ball for the Indians, but as a result on some
of the matchups, the other guard, Jack Colland, has really
gotten off. He has ten points at six there in
that second quarter as Hillsboro outscored Chilicothee seventeen eleven in
the second frame, and Nowhillsbro here at the half leads

(47:01):
at twenty six to twenty one. Looking at some of
the individual scoring on the Chillicothee side, here's how they
got the twenty one points. Caden Cox led the way
with seven points. He hit one three point, Andrew Hammond
with three, Cooper stone King with four, Cam Badger with two,
and then Daniel Sissam with five. That equals to twenty

(47:25):
one for chilicothe On the leading side for hillsbro again
with twenty six. Xander Lake, their post player four for
four from the free throw line, has eight points. On
the evening, Tate Davis, they're all Ohio guard again. The
returning fac Player of the Year has six points. We
talked about the importance of keeping him off the free

(47:45):
throw line as he shoots or last year he shot
it at ninety three percent. The only two free throws
he's taken the night was from the pregames at Nicol
He made one of two, so again he has six.

Speaker 2 (47:55):
Coach Beard certainly been signed up for that.

Speaker 1 (47:58):
On on noosed halfs one, Miller doing a nice job
on him, Hunter with two and then Jack Holland with ten.
The back court made of Tate Davis, Jack Allen, just
a sophomore again. He was an all district performer as
a freshman last year, averaging fifteen points five and a
half assists. He got going there in the second quarter
with six points in beginning, has ten. He leads all

(48:21):
scores in the basketball game, hiding that up twenty six
twenty one Hillsborough in front, and I think if you
go into the locker rooms with both coaches, I feel like,
if you're Chillicathe, you feel like you weathered a little
bit of a storm there. You got off to a
tough start, you came back, get out of a little
bit of foul trouble and know Kaden Cox ended up

(48:42):
sitting all probably about three and a half four minutes
at least there in the second quarter. Now you hope
you can come back out in the second half, get
this incredible crowd into the game, and see if you can't.

Speaker 2 (48:53):
Get control of it. If you're Hillsbro, you gotta love
your start on the road.

Speaker 1 (48:57):
You're coming into a tough environment and you really lean
on your experienced backcourt. Again, Davis does such a good
job of controlling tempo and so forth. You go to
the locker room here with a five point lead. If
your hills Brow, you're wanting to come out and try
to extend that. So as all coaches will say, the
first three minutes of the second half will be a big,

(49:18):
big factory. Well, we'll take a quick time out and
we'll come back and get you set here for the
second half. You're listening to ChIL Coffee Boys Basketball on

final instructions. Looks like as they break the huddle, Hillsboro
stells a couple of people waiting. It looks like they're
going to start the second half the same way we
did the first half, which for Chili Cooffee would be Miller, Cox, Stone, King,
Badger and sism Over on the Hillsboro side. They ended

(52:15):
up running them out with Davis, Holland, Hunter, Dumpert and Lake.
Outstanding matchup early on. Van Miller's guarded some outstanding players
earlier in the year and done a nice job on
each occasion. Occasionally gets him into a little foul trouble tonight,
he's been able to avoid that, and he's so far

(52:37):
been able to hold Davison check. But as I said,
Jack Holland kind of got off there in the second quarter.
Little Bitti has ten the lead all scores for Hillsborough.
Appreciate the officials checking with us here on the media
to make sure we're good. And we are and the
second half will be underway with a Chili Coothee possession.
Cox will give way to Miller, He'll come up, he'll

(52:59):
enter high post, sysm Over to Badger. They wanted Cox
down on the baseline. That'll be Miller up top. He'll
try a three ball, no good rebound Lake of Hillsboro.
Holan will look to bring it up for the Indians,
guarded by stone King, brings it into the scrimmagery on
the left side.

Speaker 2 (53:18):
He hands it off to Davis. Davis to try deep
three off the back iron.

Speaker 1 (53:22):
No good fight for the loose ball out comes Howland
of Hillsboro with it Holand down the middle.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Scoop shot up on the rim.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
No good out comes Cox with the rebound of Chilicothe
all the way out to stone King. Stone King to
the left hand in a nice finish. Cooper stone King
gets the scoring started in the second half, cuts the
Hillsborough lead to three at twenty six twenty three. Nice
look ahead there from Caden Cox to set up his
back court mate stone King and that layup for Cooper

(53:51):
stone King gives him six on the night and after
a time out for a shoe situation, Hillsboro possession again.
Davis against Miller. Little hesitation and they're gonna get Miller.
Been a little handsy on the way up. ChIL Cothy

(54:13):
fans behind me not very happy with the call. Nonetheless
file on Miller teams first here, Hillsboro's gonna endbound it
on the side out of Baunds.

Speaker 2 (54:23):
I'll throw it all the way in the back court.

Speaker 1 (54:24):
Davis will run it down and he'll turn and bring
it up against Miller. Davis left side, hands it off
to Highland Allen against Stone King comes right side. It's Dumper.
Dumper throws it into the high post to.

Speaker 2 (54:37):
Hunter and he wanted to hit Davis there in the
corner and end up throwing it away.

Speaker 1 (54:48):
Chilicothie will have possession after the Hillsborough turnover. Hillsborough leads
it twenty six twenty three, six point fifty remaining third quarter.
Miller brings it up for the Cavaliers. Sizzlem will give
him a boss. Miller go to the left hand and
he was tripped there by Dumper, and we're gonna have
a Hillsborough fowl, just a common fowl. First foul on

(55:10):
Hillsbrough here in the second half. Cox will be the
trigger man right in front of the chilikythe bench. Chilicythe
runs a little stack play on the side out and
they'll throw it in the back court to Badger and
he'll give way to stone King. Stone King will bring
it up. Stone King comes to the left side. Hand

(55:30):
off Miller. Now return past the stone King in the
left corner. Stone King picks up the dribble, drops the bounce,
passing the post of Sism, saysm with a little mid
range jumper. No good out comes. Davis with the rebound,
pushes ahead the lake. Lake lost it momentarily gets it back.
Now it's Davis up top. Bodies flying away from the ball,

(55:53):
and now everybody back to their feet. Davis Downhill gets
to the middle, knocked away by Miller. Ball's going to
go out of bounds. Good hands there from one Miller.
It should be Hillsborough ball in the baseline. Once we
get it all sorted out, Officials coming together to talk

(56:16):
about something there. I'm not sure I didn't I didn't
catch that. It didn't seem like anything happened after the play.
Now we're ready to go Davis. We'll throw it in
right side Holland once Lake in the post not there,
back out Davis. Davis will play off a ball screen
there from Hunter left side halland he'll take a three ball.

(56:36):
No good rebuild Badger at Chilcothe out comes Miller.

Speaker 2 (56:40):
He'll look the push right side. It's Cox. He thought
about the three.

Speaker 1 (56:44):
Now he'll look to drive middle to his left hand,
gets all the way to the rim. Nicely done, a
lot of contact, no call, but nonetheless going to go
out of bounds off Hillsborough. Good move from Cox there
probably deserved the free throw line, but nonetheless Chili Coythie'll
get possession.

Speaker 2 (57:01):
Miller will inbound.

Speaker 1 (57:03):
It goes all the way out top the Badger. Badger
drives hard down the lane. His shot up off the
glass and d nicely done Cam Badger. His first basket
of the second half cuts the Hillsborough lead to twenty
six to twenty five, five point thirty remaining third quarter.

(57:23):
Davis brings it into the scrimmage area, hands it off
the dumper, dumpered guarded by Badger, goes right point.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
It's Holland.

Speaker 1 (57:34):
Holland fall stream from lake. They play a little two
man game. Now they throw it in the lake and
Cox tried to draw the offensive foul, not there.

Speaker 2 (57:44):
Lake lays it.

Speaker 1 (57:45):
In twenty eight to twenty five.

Speaker 2 (57:48):
Hillsboro back comes Chilicothee. Just like that.

Speaker 1 (57:50):
It's Cooper stone King driving hard to the left. He
lays it in chilicothee back to within one twenty eight
twenty seven. The action starts to pick up. It's late
back just like that. He drives down the middle around
sissm and he lays it in from the left side
with the right handed scoop thirty twenty seven. Hillsbro al
Miller into the middle. He pulls up so back and

(58:12):
forth action shot. No good sism with the rebound, little
jump up, no good cocks fighting for the offensive rebound,
can't get it outcomes.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
Hillsbro davi us to look to push.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
He'll pull up mid range jumper, no good good inside
position on the box out from Badger. Rebound to Chili Kaifa.
Badger brings it up. He'll drive all the way coast
to coast, and as he got to the all the
way down around the block on the left side, he
looked to bring it up and got hit on the arms.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
Gonna draw the foul and he'll get to go to
the free throw line. Nothing else. It'll just slow the
action for a minute.

Speaker 1 (58:46):
We got back and forth there for about well, probably
about a minute plus and some pretty good action. Thirty
twenty seven. Hillsborough leads it Badger will be at the
free throw line with a chance to cut into that
Hillsborough lead. First free throw good, Cam Badger's first trip

(59:10):
to the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
Thisce even.

Speaker 1 (59:17):
Second free throw up also good, nice job and Badger
and it looks like got a time out. Just a
thirty variety. So we'll stay here. And if you're just
joining me Shane Colmes live from Chilicoti High School, you
listening to Chilicothi boys basketball in WBX and Hillsborough let

(59:38):
at twenty six twenty one at the half. Chilicofi's come
out here in the second half and been able to
trim that to one as Hillsborough Nowlly's at thirty twenty nine.

Speaker 2 (59:48):
Three different cavaliers they're scored in the quarter.

Speaker 1 (59:50):
Cox Has had a bucket Stone King of bucket and
then Bager had the layup and then the two free
throws that we just called over.

Speaker 2 (59:57):
On the Hillsborough side.

Speaker 1 (59:58):
It's been Xander Lake with both of the their second
half baskets.

Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
They're a very skilled post player.

Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
He's into double figures and he actually is the game
high twelve points now at this point. So that's gonna
be something that Chili Coathy is gonna have to get
under control. I know a lot of focus has been
on the two outstanding guards. So if I ready return
to action here four eighteen to go, third quarter, Hillsbrough
thirty Chili Coathy twenty nine in belln Davis. He'll waive

(01:00:25):
everybody out and he'll be a one on one Davis
versus Miller. Davis crossed the timeline. Good denial there from Chilicothe.
Now it goes right side to Holland, parted by stone King.
He'll take a ball screen from dupper. Holland gets all
the way to the rim. He shot up over top
and good pretty good defense, just a little bit better

(01:00:47):
offense there. Holland now at twelve. Hillsborough lead back to three.
At thirty two to twenty nine. Miller penetrates, numps it
off to Bager. Badger gets the middle. All kinds of contact,
no call shot, no good out comes Hillsbro and Davis
tries to go across court diagonal to Holland and throws
it into the second road. Turnover for Hillsbro back to

(01:01:08):
Chili Coife. Andrew Hammond makes his first appearance here. The
second half. Hill replay sism for chillicythe three point thirty
six third quarter, thirty two to twenty nine, Hillsbro. Miller
brings it up for Chili coythe miller listening to orders
from coach Beard over on the sideline. Now I was

(01:01:31):
ready to go. He throws a diagonal over Cox makes
the extra pass the corner to stone King. Good look
at the three No good, badge're fighting for the offensive rebound.
He wins it his shot, no good. Now it's Miller
with an offensive rebound. Good effort for Chillicothe out top
to Hammon, comes left side the stone King. He drives
to the middle his little runner no good comes up

(01:01:51):
short rebound Hillsbro thirty two to twenty nine. Hillsborough out
in front, were coming up. On the three minute mark
of the third quarter. Davis into the strimmage area. It
goes right side Howland baseline screen there from lake.

Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
He'll pop up top. They'll hit him there.

Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
He goes one on one against Badger, kicks it out
to the corner to Dumpert. Back out top Davis. Davis
on the jib step. Now he'll drive to the left,
cut off by Miller back to dumper.

Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
One of hills Roads.

Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
More patient possessions of the second half, dumpered hard on
the drive. He gets to the right hand and lays
it in Mason dumper with his first points of the night,
thirty four to twenty nine. Hillsborough lead back to five.
Cox hands it off Stone King Stone King out top Hammon.
Hammond thought about a three. Now he'll drive to the

(01:02:44):
right hand and on the drive's gonna draw a foul.
Chilikathi momentarily wanted a shoot him foul, but it looks
like it was just gonna be.

Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
On the floor.

Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
I believe what they called Hammon Originally he got up
into the act of shooting.

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
But I think the call came on the bump on
the drive. As Captain hid turns.

Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
To the lineup here for Hillsbro and replace his dumper.
Also have Dixon in the lineup for Hillsbro. Tobie underneath.
They throw it into the corner. There it's Badger. He's
gonna go hard. Baseline drive, baseline kick the extra pass,
the Cocks send and Knox it down Caden Cox for three.

(01:03:31):
That's outstanding basketball. There it was Badger baseline kicks. Don't
she makes the extra passing Cox Knox it down thirty
four to thirty two, Hillsborough lead cut the two. Now
Davis going one on one. He pulls up on the
mid range jumper. I think Miller got a piece of
that shot. Then it was Dixon down load that got it,
and I think ham And got a piece of that shot.
Out comes Philicathie. They hit Badger and he lays it in.

(01:03:54):
We're tied at thirty four. Give Chillakothie defense a little
star there for that effort as defense created an easy
offensive opportunity, just like at thirty four to thirty four
one thirty to play in the third quarter, plan on
the right side, look gonna go one on one with
stone King. He loses it to the middle and I

(01:04:15):
don't think it's Chili Coothie player touched it. No, the
officials agree he's lost it on the drive, ball goes
flying out of bounds. Chilicothi is gonna get possession back.
So at thirty four thirty four one twenty one third quarter,
it's like Hillsburg is going to pick it up full
quart a little bit. Now as the ball comes in
they back off just a little bit in the token
man so be stone King bringing up against Holland.

Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Stone King on the.

Speaker 1 (01:04:39):
Left point into a handoff with Cox. Cox will drible
it back up top. He'll play two man games with badger.
Cox drives hard to the right hand, gets back to
his left hand. Nicely done, Caden Cox up off the glass.
Chili Cofee leads at thirty six thirty four, and just
like that, hills Grow throws it away. Back comes Chili
Coffee stone King over.

Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
The right side.

Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
It was knocked away momentarily, but Andrew Hammond comes up
with it.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
He scores the basket and is fouled. Looked like chillicothe was.

Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
Gonna momentarily lose a two on one opportunity when a
Hillsboro defender got a piece of the Stone King passed.
But give Andrew Hammond a lot of credit. Playing hard,
comes up with the loose ball, lays it in with
some contact. Thirty eight to thirty four, Haim and we'll
get a free throw and he knocks it down thirty
nine thirty four.

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
And this is the most just to play, the most.

Speaker 1 (01:05:32):
Energy you can feel for this incredible Chillicothee crowd. Here,
this sevening chillicoffee up five. We're under a minute to
play third quarter. Right side and off of Captain's leg.
Loose ball goes diving to the floor, and as Cox
went it was a Hillsbro person that touched it first. Therefore,
the official comes sprinting in and calls it over and back.

(01:05:54):
So great hustle from both Captain of Hillsboro and Cox
and Chilikafee. But again, because Aten touched at first, the
official gonna call over and back. Obi under Stone King
right side three, No good, Badger with another great hustle,
play offensive rebound. Now Badger, he'll try a three ball,
no good, and I think he got hit on the three.

(01:06:18):
So again, kind of a quick shot with twenty eight
seconds to go, but nonetheless going to draw contact from
Xander Lake, and that foul comes in the act of
shooting the three ball. Therefore, Cam Badger is gonna get
three free throws. As Carte Liggan comes to the scores table,

(01:06:43):
Badger's first free throw no good. He should be shooting
three here. I thought that's the signal I saw. I
don't know if he towed the line or not. Yes,
I think this official nearest to me is still signaling
two more. Bager's second free throw good Again. Ligan comes
into the game, replacing Cox. Dixon of hillsbro comes in

(01:07:07):
and replaces Lake Badger. Third free through temp coming up,
shot up and good big second half here for Badger
so far, Chili Coffee's biggest lead of the night. Forty
one thirty four, twenty three seconds to go. Davis across

(01:07:30):
the timeline, hands off the Howland up top.

Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
That's Dixon.

Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Dixon goes to the right hand, hits Howland on the
back door and a ton of contact up at the
rim and it's gonna be a.

Speaker 2 (01:07:42):
Chili Coffee foul. That was a great cut from Howland.

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
Dixon made a great fine and as Chili Coffee went
up to block the shot, you know, made some pretty
good contact there certainly a foul, so.

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Jack Howan will go to the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
Here's eleven point seven seconds, third quarter, Chilicothe forty one
to thirty four, wiping up.

Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
A little wet spot there under the basket.

Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Now, with the offensive situation coming up for Chillicothe, it
looks like Coach Beard is going to go back to
Cox and sism. But with the two shots they always
hold the subs Here at the scores table until after
the first shot. Holland's first free throw. Good talked about
the importance of keeping hills Were off the line. Chilicothie

(01:08:38):
did an okay job of that in the first half,
but here in the second half, for the eleven seconds
going to third quarter, that was the first free throw
attempt for hillsbro Holland's second free throw rims out on him.
Hay seconds Cox coming hard to the left hand, drives
hard to the baseline, gets in the middle, and the

(01:09:01):
whistle and I'm not sure the call.

Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
I was blocked out from the call.

Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
They he called double dribbles while I'm being told well, nonetheless, turns.

Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
It back over to Hillsborough.

Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
I apologize on that I was blocked out on the
baseline official. So one point two seconds they throw it
into Highland. He's going to try one, just shy a
half court shot up and he banks it in and
the official counts it. So just an awful turn of
events for Chilicithee. They're up forty one to thirty five,
with a chance to get the last shot of the half.

Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
They turn it over, they throw it in and with.

Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
One point two seconds, Holland rips through, takes a dribble
and just shy a half court throws it up and
banks it home. So they are going to get together
and they are going to count it. So with that
three ball at the end of the third quarter, it's
good quarter for chilicothe Cavaliers lead.

Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
At forty one to thirty eight.

Speaker 1 (01:09:55):
You're listening to Chilicothee Boys basketball on WBX Chilicaifee.

Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
Welcome back Chilcofee High School. Shane Holmes ready to bring
you what should be just an outstanding fourth quarters. Chilicoffee
comes from five down at halftime. Now they lead at
forty one thirty eight, and that quarter it was a
really nice quarter for cam Badger had eight points to
lead Chilocoffee and that now he has ten on the night,

(01:10:57):
So forty.

Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
One thirty eight.

Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
Hillsboro is going to take the first possession here of
the fourth quorder. Holland into the scrimmage area, is going
to hand it off to Davis. Davis off a ball
screen from Lake. How it's left side Highland. He'll try
a deep three, and he got it, and I set
play there for Hillsbro out of the quarter break and

(01:11:22):
Holland gets it started with a three and we're just
like that. We're tied at forty one. Bager out top
he's going to try a three ball and he knocked
it down again.

Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
Lake was giving him a step.

Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Bager was kind of sizing it up, and he just
walked right into it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:36):
Knocked it down.

Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
Forty four or forty one ChIL Cofee. Davis pushes his
hard to the left hand out top Howland. Holland guarded
by Stone King Lake out for the ball stream Badger
on the hedge. Now Howland Downhill up shot, no good.
Lake gets it back in the shot and the foul

(01:11:57):
old fashioned three opportunities and er Lake Chilicotie did a
good job on making it a tough look for Howland,
but as a result they didn't rotate down to Xander
Lake and he was there with good inside position. He
gets it back, score the basket. Give Lake a free
throw opportunity as well. Free throw, good old fashioned free

(01:12:20):
for Lake. We're tied at forty four, seven minutes remaining
here in this fac opener, Stone king out the Badger
down to Cox. Hillsborough's kind of gone to the little
zone trap. Now it's Miller left side. He skips it
over to Badger. He'll try another three ball. This time
it's too strong. Pretty good box out down low. Looks

(01:12:43):
like Hunter with a pretty good box out there, and
the ball is going to go out of bounds off
Chilikaithe forty four, forty four, six forty nine remaining. Davis
bringing it up across the timeline for Hillsboro. Backdoor opportunity
for Holland. I bout threw it away. Good catch from Holland.

(01:13:04):
Now it's right side. How Long will try a three ball.
No good Hunter with the rebound, he saves it into
the hands of Miller.

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Out comes Badger.

Speaker 1 (01:13:12):
He'll drive on the layup and he's bowed hard and uh,
let's see if they're going to give him the two shots.
It was right as he was coming up in the
act of shooting because he got kind of undercut a
little bit. He's going to be two shots, so it's
up into the actor shooting cam Badril go back to

(01:13:32):
the free throw line on the night cam is four
of five from the charity stripe. See if cam can
break this forty four all tie, the six twenty eighth
to go hen in the fourth quarter, first free throw,
no good, a little strong off the back iron Badger

(01:13:55):
will get another barking out defensive strategy here for the
upcoming possession. Second free throw is short, so opportunity missed
there for Chilicothe to go back out in front. It's
gonna stay forty four forty four. Davis brings it up
for hillsbro left side dumper. Dumper drives hard off of

(01:14:16):
the lake screen. Now they're gonna dump it download the
lake and he lost it. Hammon comes out with the steel.
Cox will push for Chillicothe, Cox out top stone King.
Great look at a three ball, No good, goodn't nice
for a better look, just didn't go down. How comes
Howling holing up the right side. Now he'll back it

(01:14:37):
back out again. Forty four or forty four. We're under
six minutes to play here in this outstanding fac matchup.
Davis on the drive, he throws it away. I'll come
to stone King, Stone King will pull.

Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
It back out.

Speaker 1 (01:14:50):
Cox, he'll drive hard to the middle elbow, pull up
no good. Hamming on the offensive rebound, and they caught
a foul on the rebound. It looked like him and
was going to have a tip in. But the foul
comes on the rebound. But ham and tiped that ball
from the air. But I think they're gonna get it
on the box out, so no basket. Chilicofi will get

(01:15:12):
it back Obie under.

Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
Now it's Cox. He's out in the white.

Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
Wing, just in front of the Chilicothee student section. He'll
walk it back out. Now he'll look to play Downhill.
Cox on the drive gets the rim no good. Put
back the Hammond no good one more time Andrew Hammond.
Andrew Hammond giving an outstanding effort on the offensive glass
puts Chilicotie up forty six, forty four, five seventeen to

(01:15:38):
play Davis out top good ball pressure, Miller picked off
by Cox on the pass.

Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
Cox all the way.

Speaker 14 (01:15:46):
To the other end and he goes up put a
two hands slam, and he also be hating Memorial Gymnasium
comes alive as Caden Cox steps in front of the pass,
goes to the other end two hands too, and he
slams at home.

Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
Time out, hillsbro.

Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
We'll stay here to get you set here for the
final five minutes of what should be a fantastic finish.

Speaker 2 (01:16:12):
Chilicothi leads it forty eight forty four.

Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
We were stuck on that forty four all time, and
back and forth with some great effort. Give Andrew Hammon
a lot of credit on back to back possessions, outstanding
effort on the offensive glass drawing some fouls.

Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Then that last time.

Speaker 1 (01:16:29):
He was able to tip it up, and then he
comes right back down and goes right back up and
on the second offensive rebound able to put it in.
And then as we go to the other end, it
was Kate Davis trying to enter a pass to the
high post kyd and Cox stepped in front, PopEd it away,
and then once he got out in the open court,
he was all by himself and as I said he
went up two hands, two feet and about ripped the

(01:16:50):
rim off And obviously the Chili Coothie students enjoyed Diwen
and the Hillsborough time out. Chili Coothie breaks the huddle
and they're back out. Hillsborough still suddling up there. Last
time Hillsborough comes out of the huddle, they ran an
outstanding set to get Highland a three. So let's see
what coach Josh Holland draws up here five O four

(01:17:15):
remaining fourth quarter. Chilicoffee actually apply a little bit of
full court pressure in belln It's Davis guarded by Miller.
Just in full court man Davis across the timeline. He
goes right point Phil's bro looking to get in their set.

(01:17:38):
Now they're into it. They want to play Davis in
lake on a two man game and I'll stand he moved. Hey,
Davis just rejects the ball screen and he goes right
to the rim with no help side.

Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
Lays it in.

Speaker 1 (01:17:49):
Cuts to Chilicoffee lead to two forty eight forty six
Stone King pitchers at the Badger Badger out by the
volleyball line, guarded by no count from the official clock,
kicking at four to twenty five remaining in the game.
Now Badger goes right side Cox, Cox stepped back. Three,

(01:18:11):
let's it fly, no good, good box out down low.
That was Dylan Dixon keeping Hammon off the offensive glass.
Now hillsbro with the ball, chance to tie, maybe take
the lead with the three. Davis trying to get everybody
into the right spot. Left side. It's Howland Holland on
the drive to the left hand. Good help straight up

(01:18:31):
from Hammond. I think they're gonna call the body. They
might have even called the underneath. I might have been
Miller on the drive. Let's see the signal here. Yeah,
so so again Hammond did go straight up. They got
Miller underneath on the on the reach in, I thought
that was outstanding help from Hammond. But Miller when he
reached in got a little bit of the arm in

(01:18:51):
the act of shooting.

Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
So Howand's gonna go to the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (01:18:55):
Chillicoatie leads at forty eight forty six, three point fifty nine.
First free throw, no good, Chilicothe Dodds is a little
bit of a bullet here. Holland will get a second
free throw attempt. Second free throw from the sophomore guard
is good. Jack Holland outstanding player, been real impressed with

(01:19:18):
him here this sevening cuts to Chilicoffee lead to one
forty eight to forty seven. Cox right side. Badger wants
to play one on one against Lake. Now it's stone
King out top. Stone King tried to throw it right
side to Miller, but Miller was going back.

Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
Door and they throw it into the student section.

Speaker 1 (01:19:35):
Chilicothe turns it over forty eight forty seven. Chilicothee sism
is going to return toward play stone King three forty four.
To plan the game, Holland will walk it up for Hillsbrough,

(01:19:56):
Tallo comes up on the timeline. He'll be guarded by Cox.
How it looks to go on on one now he'll
he'll hand it off Davis. He'll go left side Dumper
Dumper high post to Dixon, Dixon right corner Tate Kate
Davis with a three no good rebound from Lake, he
goes baseline, flips it up and under no good out

(01:20:18):
comes Badger ChIL Coffee with the rebounds of Chilicothee keeps
the one point advantage forty eight to forty seven. Back
comes Badger Badger right side Miller down low SYSMS. Great
cut from Miller and he hits him sism back to
Miller Von Miller absorbs the contact and.

Speaker 2 (01:20:35):
Lays it in fifty forty seven Chili coffee. We're under
three minutes to go.

Speaker 1 (01:20:40):
Davis drives hard to the left, pitches it back Howland.
Holland versus Cox out top Holland to the left hand.
Good health defense for Miller.

Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
He takes it away.

Speaker 1 (01:20:53):
Miller will pitch it back to Cox and Cox with
a three point lead in two thirty seven, I'll walk
it up. Hillsbro will come with a little token running jump,
try to get it out of his hands. Download SIYSM.
Great touch pass to Hammon, and Hammon has fouled. Hillsbro
came with a half court trap. Chilicothe did a nice
job of stepping up and then when they dumped it

(01:21:14):
download to Daniel's sism. It was a beautiful touch pass
to Andrew Hammond. Hammond's first free throw is good. Been
a real nice night for Andrew Hammon, just providing a
lot of hustle plays. Terrific job by the sophomore here.

(01:21:37):
Second free throw up and that is also good. Andrew
Hammond give chilicothee a fifty two forty seven leave and
again we're going to have a time out. This time
we'll take it with him. Fifty two to forty seven.
Chilicotie out in front. You listen to Chilicothee Boys basketball
in WBX.

Speaker 6 (01:22:04):
For over fifty years, the Haller family has been here

modern facility on site crematory, and most importantly, with their

(01:22:26):
selecting how her funeral home ensures their tribute will be
just as unique. How her funeral home helping families remember,
share and heal.

Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
Welcome back Chillicothee High School.

Speaker 1 (01:22:42):
Shane Colmes flying solo here this evening to bring this
action to you here in the fac opener, and it's
been a good one. Chillicothe leads at fifty two forty seven.
We have two twenty eight to play Hillsborough. Have the
ball linked to the floor. Chillicothi is going to pick
up in a little bit of a little bit of pressure.
Tilsbury's gonna need to get a second guard back. Now

(01:23:02):
they get it into Tate Davis Davis against Miller, they'll
bring it up one on one, breaks to ten count
by getting it across the timeline. Now Badger will jump
a little bit. Now returns to his man. It's over
Howland on the right side. Howland to the middle, spins back.
Jil Cofee wanted to travel on the spin move. Not

(01:23:22):
gonna get it. Instead, Holland's gonna get rewarded with a foul.
And let's see if he gets him on the and
see if he gets him in the act of shooting.
I think they did.

Speaker 12 (01:23:34):
So.

Speaker 1 (01:23:34):
Jack Hollend's gonna go back to the free throw line.
He was one of two on his last trip two
ten remaining first free throw is good fifty two forty eight.
Hollan will get a second second free throw, also good.

(01:24:02):
Trims the lead to three fifty two forty nine. Till
a coffee out in front with the basketball. Cox brings
it up. Cox kind of backs it up a little
crab dribbling into the scrimmage area, tried to hand it
off to Miller, dumpered about took it away. Miller gets
it back under two minutes now. Miller on the drive

(01:24:23):
back out sism Sysm drives to the middle, throws the
ball up into the air to Cox over top of
the fender, and Cox just a little alley hoop action
lays it in. Nice pass from Sissm to break the
pressure of fifty four to forty nine till a coffee
out in front. Davis out top against Miller goes right side.

(01:24:44):
It's dumpered outside. Holland good heads on the ball stream
from Sism now howling down the middle and the shot
goes up and we're gonna have another foul again. Jack
Hallen just playing downhill and again Tila coffee with some
good health defense. But I think just got a little
bit of the rest on the shot getting Chillicothie fans

(01:25:05):
not very happy with it. But the biggest thing is
the guard that's talent and you just can't let him
get that deep. He's gonna cause problems. And Jack Holland,
the sophomore guard, just living ainst the free throw line
here late in the game. First free throw good We
talked about in the pregame the key to keeping these
two great guards off the free throw line. Chili Coothie

(01:25:27):
has done that all night, but all of a sudden
here in the fourth quarter, Jack Holland's setting up a
tenth there at the Charity Stride second free throw good
fifty four fifty one, Chili Coffee out in front, one
twenty four remaining. Chilli Cote trying to get it in
against pressure and couldn't do it, So Coach Beard's gonna

(01:25:48):
bail him out with a timeout. It's gonna be a
full time out, so we'll take it with them. Chillicotee
fifty four Hillsbroth fifty one, one twenty four remaining. You're
listening to Chilicothee Boys Basketball on wb X. Chilicoffie.

Welcome back chilicothe High School, Shane Colmes here. Listen to
Chilicothee Boys basketball on fourteen ninety WBX here on the
amside ninety two point seven FM worldwide on the iHeartRadio.
And it's just been a real fun game to be
a part of. Here sitting courtside that Chilicothee leads at
fifty four fifty one, be Chilicothee basketball in the full court.

(01:26:54):
Look for Hillsborough to apply some pressure. Chili Coote with
fourteen fouls, so every foul on the rest of the
way out on Chilicotie, Hillsborough is going to go line
for two. Hillsbroeth is still with a file to give.
They only have three team fouls. Cox will be the
inbound brings it the badger Badger all the way down court.

(01:27:16):
Stone King, stone King on the left wing, ol top
Miller right side. Cox clock at one thirteen. See if
Chilicothee look them mook clock a little bit Stone King
out top stone King to the left hand, dribble back
out and again as he picks up the dribble to

(01:27:36):
avoid the five count. Coach Beard going to call a
time out, just a short time out.

Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
We'll stay here.

Speaker 1 (01:27:43):
So it's ChIL Coote coming up to clock down the
one o three, just a three point game. If Chilicothe
got a really good look at the basket on a
drive or a penetrate and a dump for like a
high percentage left, I think they would take it.

Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
But at the same time, you gotta.

Speaker 1 (01:27:59):
Be careful here because hills Brow with a foul to give,
they're going to be real aggressive, start to slip at
the ball a little bit, and you never know when
they could pop one loose there to create the turnover.
So both coaches going over those scenarios. Didn't have a
lot of timeouts early in the games, so both teams
in a pretty good situation as far as timeouts go.

(01:28:19):
Looks like up on the board Hillsbrow with three remaining,
Chili Coffee is still with two. Both teams break the huddle.
Chili Coffee is going to endbound it just to my
left here between the scores table and the Chili Coffee bench.
They're going to go with a stack again. One oh

(01:28:39):
three remaining Chili cooffee up three. Bager comes streaking to
the ball and gets it right.

Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
Back to Cox.

Speaker 1 (01:28:46):
Cox tried to go out top the miller and it's
poked away.

Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
Out comes the Lake. He goes to other and he
missed the layup.

Speaker 1 (01:28:52):
Out comes Cox of chilicothee ahead to badger, badger the miller.

Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
The layup good one Miller lays it in, so Hillsboro
misses it on one end. Miller lays it in on
the other.

Speaker 1 (01:29:04):
Fifty six fifty one chili cofee back comes Davis, guarded
well by Miller and he strips them loose ball to
the floor and one Miller outstanding defensive effort is the
FAC player of the year. Tay Davis driving hard and Miller
just squared up, did a good job keeping it in front.
Ball comes loose as he is, he strips the loose,

(01:29:24):
goes to the floor on the loose ball and it.

Speaker 2 (01:29:27):
Was a foul.

Speaker 1 (01:29:29):
As I said, Hillsborough had the one foul of Gibbs.
So that's just the fourteen foul. Fifty six to fifty
one chili coffee, thirty five seconds remaining inbound stone King.
Stone King rips through the track and we're gonna have
a foul, so we will walk to the other end
and Cooper stone King is going to shoot two.

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
So at fifty six fifty one.

Speaker 1 (01:29:51):
Just through the simple math here of Cooper stone King
able to go and knock down both of these, he
could stretch this out to a three possession game.

Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
Jili Coythie will put No One up on the line.

Speaker 1 (01:30:03):
Hillsbrow with four guys up chill Cothy just trying to
avoid the silly foul. Stone King's first free throw attempt
is good, fifty seven fifty one, and boy would this
be a big one because, as I said, it would
push it to three possessions.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
Stone King's second free throw, no good rebound.

Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
Davis pushes ahead left side Howland nice shot, fake three ball,
no good rebound Dumper. He goes back up, blocked by Badger.
Badger comes out with it and we got a foul.
And I'm not sure what the call was. Badger was
in the corner. He was gonna fall out of.

Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
Bounds and he went to so so we have a
Hillsboro foul. So we have a Hillsbro foul on Badger.

Speaker 1 (01:31:01):
Badger felt like he was falling out of bounds and he.

Speaker 2 (01:31:04):
Went to throw the ball off the Hillsbro player.

Speaker 1 (01:31:07):
The official deemed it as an unsportsmanlike act.

Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
And I'm not sure. Coach Beard begging for an explanation here.

Speaker 1 (01:31:14):
And he's got to be careful too, because at fifty
seven fifty one, so I with twenty seconds to go,
the officials are going to come back together. It's always
been my understanding we shoot him in the order it happens,
So Badger would be at the free throw line. If
that's correct, He'll shoot two, then Hillsbro will get an

(01:31:39):
opportunity to go shoot two on the other end. Bizarre sequence. Again,
that's that's a bizarre situation. With twenty seconds to go,
Badger's first free throw is good. Cam Badger pushes the
lead to seven fifty eight fifty one second free throw

(01:32:07):
no good, okay, So after the Chilicothe turn into free
throw line, the lead of seven fifty eight to fifty one,
and with twenty point six seconds to go, Tate Davis
is gonna go and shoot the technical. Then if you're Chilicothe,
nothing you can do about it. Now, you just got
to focus in. You're up seven in the game. Davis's

(01:32:30):
first free throw is good. Even if he makes this one,
you're still up by three and they've got the ball
of twenty seconds ago. You just got to play defense.
Tate Davis second free throw attempt is good, so he
makes good on both technical free throws.

Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
Fifty eight fifty.

Speaker 1 (01:32:49):
Three Chiliicothe twenty point six seconds full time out.

Speaker 2 (01:32:52):
We'll take it with him.

Welcome back to Chillacoffee High School or an elsb Hat
Memorial JEMNASM Gymnasium. Excuse me, and then, as I said
in the pregame, the night now officially the Thomas sim
Cup at court cool ceremony there in the pregame, it's
been an incredible crowd, great atmosphere in Chilcoffee and Hillsboro
treated the fans to a really good fac opener. Chilicothee
leads at fifty eight fifty three, twenty point six seconds

(01:33:54):
to go, and off the bizarre sequence of the free
throws by will of Coffee on one end and the
technical free throws for Hillsboro on the other. Hillsborough now
will have the basketball. It'll be side out of bounds,
out at half court, out in the back court to Highland.
Clock starts to run nineteen eighteen in counting. Highland pulls

(01:34:15):
up for a three, no good Fager fights for the
loose ball rebound and it's going to go the other
way to Chilikathee eleven point eight seconds Chilli Kafee with
a five point advantage, Hillsborough into the full court pressure
inbound stone King and he's filed immediately. We'll walk to
the other end and stone King's going to shoot two

(01:34:39):
eleven point one seconds remaining again, Chilikoffie will stay off
the line and send stone King up there himself. Hillsborough
will put the four guys in stone King's last trip
to the line, he was one of two. Cooper's first

(01:35:03):
free throw attempt is good fifty nine fifty three.

Speaker 2 (01:35:10):
Chilicothe.

Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
This one if you do not file a three point
shooter or just about do it because it makes three
possessions and he got it. Cooper stone King makes good
on a pair sixty to fifty three. Another full time out, Tillacathie.
We'll take another quick time out. You listen to Chilicothee

Speaker 2 (01:36:05):
Welcome back, Chillicothe High School.

Speaker 1 (01:36:08):
The Cavaliers lead at sixty to fifty three with eleven
seconds to go. Chillicothe looks to start one to oh
here in FAC play, it's been a tough one in
three start for Chilicathe, where they played just a monster
three game roach straight there with the new Lexington Warren
and Marysville. Two of those games really were winnable for

(01:36:31):
Chillicothe and they just weren't able.

Speaker 2 (01:36:32):
To finish in the second half.

Speaker 1 (01:36:33):
So Coach Beard's got to be really pleased down five
at half time here the seasoning to come out and
take control of this one, and again if not, with
some silly mistakes here, I think Chilikathy's gonna be able
to wrap this one up. Eleven seconds ago, Hillsbird's got
at the full length to floor to give the Howland.

Speaker 2 (01:36:50):
Howland pushes it up the left.

Speaker 1 (01:36:51):
Side, Bolls knocked out of bounds. Hillsborough Basketball. Six point
seven seconds. If nothing else, just wait some time there,
Lake on the side out of bounds in the Davis,
he'll try a deep three and he banks it in
time out.

Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
Hillsboro. We'll stay here this time.

Speaker 1 (01:37:11):
So take Davis comes off a side out of bounds
and he banks it in. Now, this is what I
was referring to. So at sixty to fifty six, still
a two possession game. As long as you can avoid
a five count here, you should be able to get
the ball in bounds and go back.

Speaker 2 (01:37:29):
To the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (01:37:33):
So in a situation here, you you really want to
make sure you avoid the five second count, avoid any
tie ups, avoid offensive fouls when you go to set screens,
things like that, things that would not allow the clock
to run.

Speaker 2 (01:37:45):
At this point, you just got to get the ball
in bounds.

Speaker 1 (01:37:48):
You get that three seconds at three point six, I
guess is what they reset it to.

Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
They go.

Speaker 1 (01:37:54):
So if you're hills Bro, you're trying to go for
the five second count, you'll have to file as quick
as possible.

Speaker 2 (01:38:04):
Though.

Speaker 1 (01:38:04):
Teams break the huddle again. Chilicifi will be going full
length of the floor. Cox will be the nbel Man
should be able to run the baseline there. The ball
is put in there and then looks like the h
the back official coming in here. The middle guy is

(01:38:27):
gonna get a hold away from the ball, and Andrew
Hammond's gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:38:32):
Go to the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (01:38:33):
So again Hillsbrow probably doesn't mind that because no time's
remaining or no, excuse me, no time ran off. So
Phil three point six remaining and it's going to be
Andrew Hammond, who I think has just played an outstanding
all round game tonight. He's going to go to the
free throw line and try to add to that night.
First free throw is good, ham It will get another

(01:38:59):
one sixty one Chili Cooffee in Chili Cooffee pushes the
other guys all the way back. Second free thro good
inside or inbound to Davis. He'll pull up from just
inside the volleyball line. Three pointer is no good, and
I'll do it. You're Chillicoffee Cavaliers start fac play with

(01:39:20):
a sixty two fifty six win over hillsbro.

Speaker 2 (01:39:24):

Welcome back Chillicothe High School. It's a winning night for
your Cavaliers as they beat Hillsborough sixty two to fifty six.
And what an outstanding game. It started with the ceremony
year before the game. As I said before, Coach kup
at longtime a Cavalier legend, honored his family here as
his name goes on the court here at the LSB.

(01:43:31):
Hatt Memorial Gymnasium, and you can just kind of fill
it in the atmosphere all night, just a really really
good energy.

Speaker 2 (01:43:39):
It was kind of a fackuld for start Chilicothe.

Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
Let at ten to nine after the first quarter, and
then Hillsborough ended up leading twenty six twenty one at halftime.
It was a good third quarter for Chilicafee. They were
to put twenty one points on the board. Looked like
they were going to lead by six at the quarterbreak
and Jack Allen of Hillsboro throws one in half court. Nonetheless,
Chilicothie led a forty one to thirty eight. Then in

(01:44:05):
the fourth quarter, Chilicafee able to execute down the stretch
get to the free throw line. Looking here at my
numbers one, two, three, four or five, six, seven, eight,
eight of nine from the free throw line there in
the fourth quarter, unofficially on my stat sheet, Coach Beard
certainly will take that as they're able to.

Speaker 2 (01:44:24):
Secure the win.

Speaker 1 (01:44:25):
Looking at some individuals scoring first on the Chilicofee side,
they had a nice balance here. They were led tonight
by their sophomore guard Caden Cox. He had sixteen. I
thought when he was able to step in front, I
think it was like a two point game at the time.
I thought when he stepped in front and poked the
ball away and went down with the two hand slam,
it really got the crowd going, and I thought the

(01:44:46):
energy just really lifted Chilcafie on the defensive end the
rest of the way. Again, Cox was sixteen cam Badger.
He was outstanding. He had twelve of his fourteen points
in the second half. So he he along with Cox
in double figures. A couple more Cavaliers in double figgers
andrew him and was terrific. Tonight he had twelve points
and then Cooper stone King had to slow start, but

(01:45:07):
he bounces back and still scores eleven. So again four
Cavaliers and double figures. Daniel Sism had five points. Those
all came in the first quarter, and I thought really
helped Chilicati set a one because Chillicati didn't score for
about the first four minutes of the game. So Sism
with five all in that first frame, and then one
Miller he had four. Both of those were layups in
the fourth quarter run oh. One time was on a

(01:45:29):
give and go with Sism, the other time was out
in the open court where he laid it in but
fanned the story for Jan Miller tonight, I young man
can just fly guard to basketball. Tate Davis's as advertised,
he's terrific. The FAC returning player of the year. He
came in as the Ohio guard and you know he
still got thirteen to night and did a good job.

(01:45:50):
But Miller really did a good job on him. But
you know, sometimes you focus one area and someone else
get you. A terrific backcourt mate. Jack Holland, the sophomore,
had twenty four. Man He's good. So this Hillsbro team
they can run a couple of guards at you to
go along with Lake inside Xander Lake with fifteen. So
again with the big three there, Jack Hilland gets twenty

(01:46:12):
four for Hillsboro, Xander Lake with fifteen, Tate Davis with thirteen,
Mason Dumpert and Braden Hunter ad two again. Add it
all up and Chillicothe wins it sixty two to fifty six.
I'm hoping to talk to Coach Beard before I get
out of here and go to the Accurate Heating, Cooling

(01:46:33):
and Plumbing Scoreboard show with Vanessa. Chillicothe fans will definitely
want to get over to WKKJ when I'm done here
because I know Coach Benson interview there with Vanessa. I
was told we'll be a part of that show this evening,
so we'll have a chance to catch up on the.

Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
Lady Calves a little bit as well.

Speaker 1 (01:46:50):
The I'm going to take quick time out love to
get Coach Beard on with me here as we go
and listen to Chi Cofee Boys basketball on WBX.

Speaker 1 (01:47:36):
Welcome back Shane Holmes here a Chilicoppie High School joined
by the winning coach, Coach Beard. I tell you I
was staying there on the air. I know you're really
proud of your kids' effort over a tough road trip,
but I know there's a couple of times down the
stretching games where you just felt like the execution was lacking. Unofficially,
I have you eight and nine from the free throw
line in the fourth quarter, and I thought, just a
little bit of feel of time and score. Got to

(01:47:58):
feel a lot better about how the kids fein tonight.

Speaker 12 (01:48:00):
Yeah, it was the first thing I said to me when
we went in locker room. Kids. We grew up tonight.

Speaker 15 (01:48:04):
We were able to knock down free throws the crucial
points of times, and we didn't.

Speaker 12 (01:48:08):
I didn't feel like.

Speaker 15 (01:48:09):
We rushed shots there late and fourth quarter when we
knew they were going to come trap, we flashed really hard,
got the basketball, ripped throughs, got the ball to easy spots,
and we were able to get layups out of it.

Speaker 12 (01:48:18):
So, yes, our kids grew up tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:48:20):
We You and I talked a little bit during the
week and you were telling me that Hillsbrood is going
to present quite a challenge in the backcourt and you
weren't lying.

Speaker 2 (01:48:26):
Yeah, they're really, really good.

Speaker 1 (01:48:28):
And you know, obviously Jack Allen got off a little
bit for twenty four tonight, but man, I just kept
highlighting the ability of one Miller when he can do
it without filing.

Speaker 2 (01:48:36):
Man, he can really get after the BASKETBA.

Speaker 12 (01:48:37):
Yeah, and we feed off of one.

Speaker 15 (01:48:38):
Our defense really feeds off one Miller. He does a
great job be able to heat the basketball. I felt
like one heating the basketball, making those guys work for
three and a half quarters. Kind of warm down in
a little bit in the fourth quarter, but we go
as he goes on defense.

Speaker 12 (01:48:53):
He's a great defensive player.

Speaker 15 (01:48:55):
He doesn't score much for us, but what he does
defensively by far out ways not scoring the offense.

Speaker 2 (01:49:00):
No question.

Speaker 1 (01:49:01):
And you know, you know Daniel gives you a particular role.
I love your team the way you can go through
some different combinations. Daniel certainly gives you a different look,
but you also have a creative look when you go
Andrew and Cam and Kayden together. They play a little
bit bigger than you would think. I mean, they're they're
they're nice sized kids. And I just thought the effort
of Cam and Andrew on the offensive last and the
second half ended up being a huge EXPI it was.

Speaker 12 (01:49:23):
It was very, very huge for us.

Speaker 15 (01:49:25):
It's a great thing to see them actually going up
and getting those rebounds in traffic. You know, when we
go with a little smaller lineup and we take Daniel out,
we felt like we could expose the big kid in
the middle. He didn't really want to come out and guard.
Kim was able to knock down a couple of threes.
Now he come out now camp to get around him
some things that Daniel quite can't do yet. So I

(01:49:45):
think that second look that we had with Daniel on
the bench thus present a problem because we're long. Cam's
pretty physical for his size, and like you said, Andrew's
tall and could rebound, an can shoot the three. So
with that lineup on the floor, who do you guard?
You got five options there and and it makes it
nice when you can share the ball, move the ball,

(01:50:06):
and get everyone on the scoring column.

Speaker 2 (01:50:08):
No question. I wanted to ask you about Kayden.

Speaker 1 (01:50:09):
You know, he's been kind of up and down, but
when he's up, man, he's talented. In tonight he had
kind of a slow start, but you had to love
how he created the one big time dunk off his
defense and you know, again, just such a tough matchup.

Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
Just continuing to get better every time I see him.

Speaker 15 (01:50:23):
You know, with Cayden, it's it's all about mature. Sometimes
we forget he's only a sophomore. Uh And the more
he plays, the more confidence he's going to get. One
of the things I really challenge him with is I'm
trying to get him understand.

Speaker 12 (01:50:36):
This is his ball club, this is his ball team.

Speaker 15 (01:50:39):
Offensively, we don't have another guy on the court that
can create the way he creates and can elevate over people.
So you know, I'm really challenging him to really step
up and take that leadership role on the offensive end.

Speaker 1 (01:50:49):
Well, a couple more for you here. I just wanted
to highlight as many kids as we can. You know,
Cooper stone King got off to the slow start tonight too,
And and I love the way you coached him a
little bit there. You're trying to bring him along, and
then when when the game was on the line, he
kind of stepped to the forefront made some places for you.

Speaker 15 (01:51:03):
Yeah, I think the technical earlier and warm ups kind
of got him down. And and I would talk to
him and say, I need to clear your mind because
you know, late in the fourth quarter we made we're
gonna need you.

Speaker 12 (01:51:11):
We're gonna need you to knock down some shots.

Speaker 15 (01:51:13):
And sure enough, I think he hit four free throws
there in the fourth quarter to kind of seal the deal.
And I just went up to him, I said, see,
I said, you know, you can't just worry about what happens,
and you got to clear your mind.

Speaker 12 (01:51:22):
Shooters, you do miss shots, clear your mind the next.

Speaker 15 (01:51:25):
Shots going in and fortunately cleared his mind was able
to knock down those free throws to steal the.

Speaker 2 (01:51:29):
Win for us. Well.

Speaker 1 (01:51:30):
As a coach myself, I don't want to get you
out of here without talking about you know, I know
Victor Hitchins gave a couple of minutes, Carte Liggan a
couple And when you're when you're winning these these really
close games, every minute counts, you talk a little bit
about what they give you off the bench.

Speaker 12 (01:51:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (01:51:44):
We we we discussed as the coaching staff, and we
need to we need to try to develop some more
kids on the bench so we can get some of
our guys uh good rest. And I thought Carta came
in and did what he did, and certainly vic gave
us a good minutes And that's exactly what we're looking for.

Speaker 12 (01:51:58):
Out of them.

Speaker 15 (01:52:00):
Understand what they're good at, what they're not good at,
and just be efficient of how you can help the
basketball team. And like I said, you know, Carte freshman,
the speed of the game, he's still learning the speed
of the game. Heck of an athlete. Once that game
slows down for him, you're gonna see a different Carte
looking No question.

Speaker 1 (01:52:16):
I guess last question would be what what's next? I
think we going back on the road.

Speaker 15 (01:52:19):
Now, on the road Tuesday with Miami Trace and then
Friday at Washington Court.

Speaker 2 (01:52:23):
House.

Speaker 1 (01:52:24):
Well, coach, I tell you what, I've said it to
you several times already early in the year. Just really
enjoy watching your team player. I love the brand of
basketball you're you're you're teaching. Incredible atmosphere tonight, great night,
just for ChIL Coffee in general. Quick comment on that,
just with the ceremony and what it means to everybody
to know.

Speaker 15 (01:52:39):
Yeah, tonight with special When they named the floor after
Tom Cuppet, we knew there was gonna be a lot
of people here tonight. We're just glad we're able to
put a good plug and come for those people to
come out. We knew how it was back in a
couple of years. A couple was a very very good coach,
tough coach, and like garn had mentioned there in the ceremony,
they were people lined up along the wall. Oh, it's

(01:53:00):
just to watch them play. And when I looked up
in the stands today, we've seen the packed house. I
just wanted to make sure and reiterate it to our kids.
Let's put a special product on the floor tonight, And
I thought we did that.

Speaker 1 (01:53:08):
Hey, well said coach, congratulations, go celebrate with your team
and we'll see you Tuesday night.

Speaker 12 (01:53:12):
All right, appreciate it, thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:53:14):
Yeah. And that's head coach hat Beard is.

Speaker 1 (01:53:16):
His cavaliers are victorious here in the fac opener tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:53:20):
So well, I'll tell you what, Nathan.

Speaker 1 (01:53:23):
I appreciate the effort back in the studio and I'm
gonna I'm gonna clean up and get out of here,
and I'm gonna make my way over. I hope everybody
will turn over to WKKJ here the accurate heating, cooling
and plumbing scoreboard show. I'll be with Vanessa here just
as soon as I can get there. So again, thank you, Nathan.
This is Shane colemes final score for the final time
Chilicothee wins it sixty two to fifty six.
