SPEAKER_00 (00:19):
Verse one.
Read with me if you wish.
I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,
that ye present your body as aliving sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which isyour reasonable servant.
And be not conformed to thisworld, but be ye transformed by
(00:42):
the renewing of your mind, thatye may prove what is that good
and acceptable and perfect willof God.
For I say, through the gracegiven unto me to every man that
is among you, not to think ofhimself more highly than he
ought to think, but to thinksoberly, according as God hath
(01:06):
dealt to every man the measureof faith.
For as we have many members inone body, all members have not
the same office.
So we being many are one body inChrist.
Every one members one ofanother.
(01:28):
Having then gifts differingaccording to the grace that is
given us with a prophecy, let usprophesy according to the
proportion of faith.
Our ministry, let us wait on ourministering, or he that teacheth
on teaching, or he thatexhorteth on exhortation, he
(01:49):
that giveth, let him do it withsimplicity, he that ruleth with
diligence, he that showeth mercywith cheerfulness, let love be
without dissimulation, abhorthat which is evil, cleave to
that which is good, be kindlyaffectionate one to another, let
brotherly love uh be kindlyaffectionate to one another with
(02:12):
brotherly love, in honor, preferring one another, not
slowful in business, fervent inspirit, serving the Lord,
rejoicing in hope, patient intribulation, continuing instant
in prayer, distributing to thenecessities of saints, given to
hospitality, bless them whichpersecute you, bless and curse
(02:32):
not, rejoice with them that dorejoice, weep with them that
weep, be of the same mind onetowards another, mind not high
things, but condescend to men oflow estate, be not wise in your
own conceits, recompense to noman evil for evil, provide
things honest in the sight ofall men.
(02:52):
If it be possible, as much aslife in you live peaceably with
all men, dearly beloved, avengenot yourself, but rather give
place unto wrath.
For it is written, Vengeance ismine, I will repay, saith the
Lord.
Therefore, if thine enemyhunger, feed him, if he thirst,
give him drink.
For in so doing thou shalt heapcoals of fire on his head.
(03:15):
Be not overcome of evil, butovercome evil with good.
The Lord would help me for a fewminutes.
By his grace, I don't intend topreach long, but I would like to
preach to you on the subjecttonight of the guardian of the
gleam.
Guardians of the gleam.
(03:35):
Well, we find that the ApostlePaul, when writing turvent in
spirit, he was saying a wordthat uh is hard to translate,
but yet it actually criticallymeans boiling.
Boiling in spirit.
Literally heated till you aremoving on the inside.
(03:59):
Anything that is heated hotenough, all of you older folks
will understand this a whole lotmore than this younger
generation.
We that was raised around afreestanding stove understands
that if you chuck the wood orthe coal to it, after a while
you will get a glow from it.
(04:20):
Amen.
And the more intense the heat, the more intense the glow.
Paul is saying to the church atRome, and understand that the
church of Rome in Paul's day maynot have been as large as our
church, though it was a hugemetropolitan city.
For in that day they said allroads lead to Rome.
(04:43):
To be a Roman citizen in thatday was of great value to all
men.
Paul himself was a Romancitizen.
Some men bought theircitizenship with a great sum of
money.
Some were freeborn Romans.
But to be a Roman citizen was tohave the protection of Rome.
Amen.
(05:04):
They were moving thisChristianity into a city that
was given to idolatry.
They worshiped their Caesar,their emperors.
Their emperors was their God.
Besides that, there were manyother gods, amen, that these
Romans had.
Paul came to Rome and found anew fledgling church there in
(05:30):
Rome.
He writes this book of Romans tothe church.
Amen.
At Rome.
He gets over to the 12thchapter.
And after laying out to them thegospel, as it is found in the
gospel, amen, according to Paul, which is the book of Romans.
(05:50):
If you want to know what Paulbelieved, read the book of
Romans.
Amen.
Amen.
So he gets to these people, andhe has been laying out to them
the gospel as he knows it.
And then all of a sudden he getsto this chapter 12.
And he begins to talk to themabout a personal life.
(06:14):
Amen.
And as he talks to them aboutthis personal life, he is not
giving them an easy thing to do.
But he is asking them anddemanding of them.
For this chapter 12 is the mostdemanding chapter in the whole
of the New Testament.
Amen.
If you want to try to live up tosomething, strap it on.
(06:37):
You will find a full counterpartfor your nature.
Amen.
You will find a struggling and awrestling for you to come up to
chapter 12 of the book ofRomans.
I don't have to go far to proveto you that what I'm saying is
true.
Just read the first verse.
I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God
(07:00):
that you present your body as aliving sacrifice.
Holy.
Stop there.
Rest my case.
It's a demanding chapter.
Get yourself under control.
Make your life a livingsacrifice.
You know what a sacrifice was?
Let me clear this up so it'll bea little bit lighter for you.
(07:20):
You know what a sacrifice was?
It was a lamb or an ox or a doveor a pigeon or a sparrow.
Amen.
Or it was wheat.
Or it was oil.
Anything that God demanded couldbe turned into a sacrifice.
Amen.
Even Abraham was asked tosacrifice his Isaac.
(07:44):
Isaac was a sacrifice.
God sent his son to be asacrifice.
A sacrifice, my friend, therefore, was doomed to die.
Whether they wanted to or not.
Once they were chosen for asacrifice, it meant death.
(08:05):
Amen.
Y'all with me tonight?
I guess some of you had toforgive me before you'll get
with me, but forgive me.
Amen.
And then try to help me.
But I want to tell yousomething.
The sacrifice, when it waschosen, meant that it had to
die.
If the wheat was chosen, it hadto be offered up.
(08:27):
It had to be taken from yourhands and given.
You had to give it.
You could not hold on to it.
You had to lay it upon the altarand watch the fire devour it in
front of you.
Whatever was sacrificed, youwatched it get consumed, and
there was nothing left of it.
You had sacrificed.
(08:49):
You remember David said thatgreat text that a lot of
holiness preachers have preachedon?
I will not sacrifice unto Godthat which cost me nothing.
David knew that a sacrificewithout cost was worthless.
Amen.
So David said, Before I offeranything to God, I will pay the
(09:10):
pool the full price for it.
Amen.
So Paul is saying to them, Idon't want you to die as a
sacrifice.
I want you to live as asacrifice.
Which meant that you must takeyour hands off of your own self.
You must offer your own self updaily.
(09:31):
That's why Paul said, I diedaily.
It was a daily sacrifice.
Every morning when he got up, hesaid, Pere God is paw upon the
altar.
If you burn me today, I'll beconsumed in your flames.
If whatever you do with metoday, it'll be in your will.
(09:52):
I accept it.
Amen.
That's why Paul could recountthat tribulation worketh
patience.
And patience, when it has theirperfect work, will make you
entire and wanting nothing.
Amen.
Oh, that we would learn todaythat God, God meant for us,
(10:14):
meant for us to be differentfrom the world.
A living sacrifice.
People who have cut the stringsof self-will.
People who have renounced theworld and its allure.
People who have dedicated theirlife to the cause of Christ.
This is chapter 12 of the bookof Romans.
(10:41):
Maintaining the spiritual glow.
Guardians of the gleam.
It was in our early Pentecostalexperience.
Our forefathers, when it firsthappened, we were known as the
old Wesleans were.
When they got sanctified orsaved, real good.
They got a glow or a gleam intheir face.
(11:04):
They used to be called men withthe shining faces.
Amen.
They got so cleansed, they gotso changed, they got so
radically changed, they got sowonderfully saved, they died out
to the world, and they becomepeople with a gleam.
Amen.
In their face.
(11:24):
A lighted countenance.
You ever met anybody?
That you have you ever seen?
How many here tonight have seenpeople with a shining face?
Raise your hands.
Because some of these childrenhave never known what it was to
see somebody saved or experiencesomething from God that it
actually got so deep inside ofthem that it just lit a light
(11:46):
inside and made it glow afterface.
Amen.
Some folks, they were knowing tokeep that experience and
maintain that experience.
And that's what Paul is sayingto these people at Rome.
It'll be easy for you to losethe glow.
Now let me tell you somethingabout uh uh about um metal and
(12:07):
heating it.
You can heat something astremendously hot as you want,
get it as red, and then changeit to another color and get it
to the ultimate white white heatin the metal to where it's
moldable and it runs, almostruns like water.
But you just remove it from thefire and set it over on anything
(12:32):
and soon watch it come down toroom temperature.
It may take it a while to loseits glow, but leave it alone and
keep it out of the fire, and itwill come down to the normal
temperature of its surroundings.
Paul said to these Romans, if Ido not tell you that you are
(12:55):
chargeable to God, that you aredemanded of God, that you are
asked of God to keep this glow, you lose it.
All right?
Amen.
You lose it.
The twelfth chapter is the mostdemanding chapter Paul ever
wrote.
(13:16):
He is asking these people, someof them slaves, some of them
poor people, some of them thatuh that uh were getting saved
were people uh of Caesar'spalace himself.
Amen.
Of the household, he said, ofCaesar.
Some had got saved.
So there were people who wereput in perilous places, and then
(13:38):
Paul asked them to love withoutdissimulation.
He asked them to hate the evilthat was around them, to be
kindly affectionate to oneanother, fervent in the spirit,
serving the Lord.
Then he said, rejoicing in hope, patience and tribulation,
continuing instant in prayer, distributing to the necessity of
(14:00):
saints, given to hospitality.
Then he said, Bless them thatpersecute you.
Bless and curse not.
Oh my, persecute.
They were living there whereNero lived, that homosexual
emperor, who history saidmarried a 16-year-old boy and
(14:23):
publicly took him down theavenues of Rome.
Amen.
In a bridal possession.
Amen.
Not only did he have the16-year-old male wife, I guess
that's what you would call him,or whatever it was, however they
described that affair, but healso had a lot of other male
lovers.
It was a weird place that theylived.
(14:46):
Where the emperor was polluted, where he was perverted, where
his where all of Rome was acarnival, there were three major
sins that brought Rome down.
Idleness, fullness of bread, andcircuses.
(15:12):
Paul said to them, Denounce it.
Renounce it.
Get yourself from it, stay aboveit, and if they persecute you,
don't curse them.
Bless them.
Rejoice with them that dorejoice, and go on and listen to
the high things that Paul sayshere.
(15:33):
Recompense to no man evil forevil.
Provide things honest in thesight of all men.
And if it be possible, as muchas life in you, live peaceably
with all men.
Dearly beloved, avenge notyourself, but rather give place
unto wrath.
For it is written, Vengeance ismine, I will replace, saith the
Lord.
And he said, If your enemyhunger, feed him.
(15:56):
If he thirst, give him drink.
Be not overcome of evil, butovercome evil with good.
Paul is merely stating, amen, that they are to keep the glow
at all costs.
(16:18):
Look out in our Pentecostalexperience today.
I forget who it was.
Brother Carpenter, I think, issaid, made the statement this
morning that the old timers hadsomething that we didn't have.
They had the newness of theexperience.
We're the third generationPentecost.
I am a third generationPentecostal.
What does that mean, BrotherBenny?
(16:39):
What are you saying?
A third generation Pentecostal.
My grandmother got it when itwas still fresh.
When it first swept intosouthern Indiana, she got swept
up in the torrent of thisPentecostal blessing.
She got saved and sanctified outof her Baptist ways.
Amen.
She got a hold of the HolyGhost.
It got a hold of her.
(16:59):
Amen.
It was new.
Amen.
And right after that outpouringof the Holy Ghost came miracles.
Just one healing after anotheruntil every church was almost a
healing center.
Amen.
Was nobody promoted because theyprayed for the sick.
Everybody prayed for the sickthen.
Everybody believed God hadhealed them.
(17:22):
A lot of our forefatherswouldn't go to the doctor,
wouldn't take medicine becausethey had such an experience with
God.
That glow was transferred to thesecond generation.
And for a while the secondgeneration kept it.
But then the world began to coolthem down.
And you watched it right here inthe valley as we watched it in
(17:43):
southern Indiana.
As they remove themselves from apersonal experience with Jesus
Christ, they begin to cool downto the normal.
Amen?
Until now, in a lot ofPentecostal churches, you
couldn't tell them from anyother denomination.
(18:03):
Cool down! Amen.
That's what one of the oldministers said when Pentecost
first broke out.
He said, Brother, and they had aconference in one of the
organizations, what are we goingto do with these people?
Men are flocking to them.
And one old man rose up andsaid, Don't do nothing.
Just leave them alone, and aftera while, they'll cool down.
(18:25):
Oh, have we ever cooled down?
Have we ever lost the glow?
Till now, we've got in our midstfourth generation Pentecostals.
And they know nothing of thepower of God.
The most they know of theblessing of the Lord is a shout
(18:47):
every once in a while.
Or a tongue in interpretation.
Maybe somebody getting healedfrom a headache.
We're leaving them nothing toguard.
We're making them the guardiansof nothing.
We're holding out empty handsand an empty experience to a
(19:09):
generation that's just asimportant as any generation in
the sight of God.
Amen.
But it's not the fault of ourforefathers.
They were given a realexperience.
It wasn't the fault of ourparents.
Parents, because they too had areal experience.
It's not our fault because wehave got our own experience.
(19:29):
But in each generation, to thosewho didn't become a guardian of
it, they soon lost it.
Amen.
Oh, yes, my friend.
Yes, yes, you know it's right.
Paul is calling them in thistwelfth chapter of Romans to do
something that has to be done inevery one of our lives.
(19:52):
He's saying to them, the firstthing you've got to do is get
the robes of the world off ofyour life.
You must consider yourself aliving sacrifice, and you must
see that you are holy.
It didn't say holy living.
(20:12):
It said holy.
Just like the word holy is onthe front of our Bible.
The Greek word for Bible, bibylos, is just books.
Books.
I can go in there and say thosebooks that I have are Bible.
Because a Bible is a book orbooks.
(20:33):
But when you put the word holyon front of that word book, when
you say it's a holy book thatseparates it from every other
book, this book is to be lookedupon as God's word, God's
thoughts, God's way, God's law,God's doing, God's history,
(20:55):
God's answer to man's plea,God's righteousness, God's
holiness is found in this book.
That's why it is the Holy Bible.
Amen.
When you say holy church, that'swhy they uh they put that word
on the holy Catholic Church.
They say, we are one church.
(21:17):
There's not another one like us.
Amen.
So they put the word holy on thefront of it to make it one.
And that's what God says here inthis by the Holy Ghost speaking
through Paul.
You are holy because you areblood bought.
You are holy because you havebeen purchased with a great
price.
You are holy because God haschosen you out of the world.
(21:41):
Amen.
That is why He says, You're aliving sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which isyour reasonable service.
I wish you'd help me preach.
Anybody out there got to spareamen.
Reasonable service.
Now, if you look back for whatGod has done for you, the most
(22:03):
reasonable thing that you can dois give yourself back to God
after God gave himself for you.
Amen.
The most reasonable thing youcan do is to say, I got saved
out of the world.
Why I want the world back in mylife.
God saved me from sin.
Why do I want to sin any longer?
God separated me and changed meand made me a new creature.
(22:24):
Why do I want to regress backinto the old creature that I
was?
Amen.
So Paul is saying that's yourreasonable service.
Amen.
And be not conformed to thisworld.
Be not forced into the world'smold.
(22:49):
Do not be forced to dress likethe world.
Do not be forced to accept theworld's standard.
Don't be pushed into acceptingthe world's amusement.
(23:12):
Don't be conformed to thisworld.
Let me ask you a personalquestion.
Can they tell any different?
(23:53):
Does the world dictate yourprayer time?
Does the world dictate yourBible reading?
Does the world dictate yourfellowship?
Does the world dictate when youcome to church?
You say, well, no, BrotherBenny, I'm free of wide and
twenty-one.
Sure you are.
(24:14):
But if you're not, careful, myfriend.
The world will take away yourrights and make you live
according to their rules.
That's why Paul said to thesepeople who lived in Rome, look,
you know the old saying, don'tyou?
(24:34):
Have you heard it before?
When in Rome, do as the Romans.
That's where we get our word foradaptability.
Amen.
When in Rome, do as the Romansdo.
Well, Paul said, that's notgood.
And that's not gospel.
And that won't work.
You're in Rome, but you can't doas the Romans do.
(24:58):
Hallelujah.
Woo! Glory be to God.
Amen.
Paul's asking them to recastthemselves in a holy mode.
Amen.
But be ye transformed.
He said, God's got a moldthat'll transform your life.
(25:21):
Amen.
I'll guarantee you tonight, ifwe would all pray through,
tomorrow we would be different.
I don't care how long you'vebeen saved.
I'm saying tonight, if every oneof us would pray through, clear
through, till we spoke intongues, till we got lost in the
realm of the Spirit, till theHoly Ghost had time to do a work
(25:44):
in our life.
And every woman in the bus wouldbe different.
I don't care how holy you livein.
I don't care how separate youfeel like you are.
You probably fruit into the holyrealm of God.
(26:04):
Come in the bottom of the move.
Come on, then some things, letthem hit them away, put it with
a basket.
You go and get some things anddig them up and throw them away.
Let'll be of no use to you.
Oh yes.
Paul's saying, recast yourselfinto the heavenly mold, but be
you transformed by the renewingof your mind.
(26:26):
He said, You need your mindrenewed.
Now, my friends, after swimmingin a cesspool all week, then
Sunday nights you need a goodold brainwashing.
Amen.
I mean that.
I don't mean trying to get youto believe like I believe, but
you need the blood of JesusChrist just to come down and
(26:47):
cleanse your mind of vulgarity,of cussing, of swearing, of
cheating, of lying, amen, ofdealing with the world, of
looking at pornography thatpeople and other people have put
in front of you.
Amen! That's right, you can'twalk into some places without
them plastering that stuff up infront of your face.
(27:14):
We need a holy burning walkstreaming with a holy hook
streaming.
Amen.
(27:34):
He tells them to bless thepowers that persecute them, to
return evil for good.
Amen.
To subdue the enormous city ofRome and all the alien powers by
their patience.
Confound it by their goodness.
Amen.
And win it by their love.
(27:56):
That's still our task today.
If we're to win this world, wemust be different.
Oh, help me, Lord.
Help me, Lord, help me, Lord.
It's hard to define.
I'm telling you the truth rightnow.
It's hard to define.
Amen.
(28:16):
I'm not trying up here tonightto be a theologian.
I'm trying to define a termthat's that you cannot define.
I'm trying to tell you there isan experience that God has put
in our hearts as holinessPentecostal people.
Amen.
There ought to be a glow in ourface.
There ought to be a heat in ourprayer.
There ought to be a spring inour walk.
(28:37):
There ought to be a dedicationto our cause.
There ought to be a love forGod.
Amen.
There ought to be a hunger forhis spirit.
There ought to be a deep-feltneed of his word.
Amen.
All of these things are thethings that take to make the
glow.
But more than that, we live in aday when people have dropped
their guard and they no longerwant to keep this Pentecost
(28:59):
away.
They want to bring it down towhere it's acceptable of other
people.
Instead of keeping the glow andbeing the guardian of the
experience, they layered itdown.
Amen.
They lowered it down.
Amen.
Until people don't want holinesspreaching.
Amen.
Just like one young lady toldSister Kim, amen, the reason
(29:20):
that she goes to these otherchurches is, amen, that she can
uh she can get blessed.
Amen, and she can uh she canhave the experience and blessed
and not have to live a holinesslife.
But she said, but when I come toyour church, she said, and I
listen to the preaching in yourchurch, and I'm in the service
at your church, she said, itprovokes me all week long.
(29:43):
Amen.
That's the difference, myfriend, between a blessing that
you lose before you get out thedoor and the Holy Ghost that
comes down in your soul.
You've got to stand straight.
You've got to stand true.
(30:03):
Your eyes have got to be opened.
Amen.
We see God in this day.
We've got to have some peoplethat are going to protect this
experience.
When's the last time?
You prayed through till youdidn't jabber.
(30:27):
Until you didn't say a few wordsthat was incoherent.
But you prayed through to theHoly Ghost.
You got down and prayed pumpthrough to the Holy Ghost.
I mean you spoke in anothertongue as a spirit gave
utterance.
You lost control.
You got out of sight.
(30:49):
You went down into the depths.
You arose to new heights.
You felt holy ecstasy.
You heard things that wereunlawful to utter.
God got down deep in your heartand you felt a holy, amen,
anointing.
And the anointing does make thedifference.
Amen, it's not like Benny Hand.
(31:09):
Amen who blows on and slays themud in the floor.
No, it's not a holy laugh.
What do you get down on thefloor?
It's a holy life.
(31:58):
Oh God.
Help me tonight.
I'm preaching on guardians ofthe glow.
God has set me here and let mebe called to preach to this last
day generation.
I'm running stiff competitionagainst the Benny Hens.
I'm running stiff competitionsagainst the R.W.
(32:18):
Shamboks.
I'm living running the stiffcompetition, amen, against these
uh these radio and televisionpreachers, amen, that tell you
you can just be blessed nomatter how you live.
I'm telling you, my friend, theroad is narrow, but the road is
right.
The road is demanding, but theroad is right, amen.
(32:40):
The road is steep, but the roadis right, amen.
We know it's right.
If it wasn't right, why, myfriend, in the first instant of
his pouring out of this baptismof the Holy Ghost, why did they
come out of other churches?
Why did the Nazarenes come toit?
Why did the Methodists come toit?
Why did the Presbyterians cometo it?
(33:01):
Why did the Baptists come to it?
Because they had nothing right, amen when they come to it, they
stop strength of the Christian, they swear to the baptism of the
Holy Ghost, they scream up theblood, amen, they give them up
the television, they quit theone to the church, they got the
windows, they scream the light.
(33:23):
Oh my God! Amen.
If God didn't demand it of them, why is he demanding it of us?
But he did demand it of them, and he still demands it of us.
(33:43):
Say, how many degrees of heatand intensity have you lost here
lately?
Can you feel the temperaturegoing down in your soul?
And are you getting lukewarm?
That's what the Lord said.
I'd rather you be cold.
You'd be separated to a deepfreeze than for you to stay out
(34:05):
here and be lukewarm.
And what he means by lukewarm isjust coming down to the average
of this world.
The world makes God sick.
And he said, if you get thatway, you'll make me sick too.
Amen.
Come on now, church.
Listen up to me here.
If you won't help me preach, then listen to me as I try to
(34:25):
tell you something tonight.
When you let your experiencebegin to come down a degree at a
time, that hot metal doesn't gofrom white hot to black gray
steel.
No, it changes color as it comesback down, just like it changed
color as it was getting hotter.
Amen and you watched.
You watched what I'm telling youtonight.
(34:47):
I've watched you as a pastor,I've seen you red hot.
I've seen the spirit of God uponyou.
I've heard you speak anothertongue.
I've seen the spirit of God havecontrol of your life.
I've watched you change somethings in your life.
Let's come a time when you likeyou couldn't do any better.
(35:10):
So you've been fucking easyinside.
Any minute and you're testimonylost this way.
And the Holy Ghost didn't moveupon you! Like a use to move on
you! Why?
Because you did not comment! What is protecting?
(35:32):
You did not accept the challengeof God to be the guardian of the
glow!
unknown (35:40):
Yes!
SPEAKER_00 (35:46):
Oh God.
I'm preaching to people thatI've preached to so long that I
no longer have their attention.
Great God of heaven, help metonight.
I'm telling you what Dryden Roadneeds is an individual
transformation.
(36:07):
Individually, we move ourexperience back up till we glow.
Amen.
Amen.
Amen.
Glory to God.
You know I could get each one ofyou tonight and preach to you.
Amen.
I could just get right in frontof you.
Ain't nothing you can say to me.
Amen.
Just don't lay hands on me nowand don't try to stop me because
(36:28):
I'm preaching to you.
I've seen you in better days.
I've seen you when the anointingof God was on you.
I've seen you when the Spirit ofthe Lord used you.
And now I wonder when it willever use you again.
Why?
Because you sat calmly by andwatched that experience grow
colder and colder and colder.
And instead of taking time topray through, get clear prayed
(36:51):
through until you speak inanother tongue from another
world.
Amen.
Amen.
Come on now, you said, but maybeit's not all in tongue talking
about it instead of us.
But if the Holy Ghost getscontrol of your life, just
right.
If the Holy Ghost comes in you, just right.
You will do something, myfriend.
You prophesy, you praise God, oryou're gonna speak in another
(37:15):
tongue, and the Spirit gets thechurch, and when you do, it'll
help you! How long has it been?
How long has it been since youprayed through, and God's hand
got a hold of the firmest thatin your life and cranked it up,
(37:38):
and you felt the warming ofGod's hand breaking the ice off
of your heart.
Amen.
Some of you, some of you've gotpotential, but God does not have
control.
Some of you've got talent, butGod has no control of your life.
Amen.
You're able to do great thingsfor God, but will never do them
(38:00):
because you will not cut free ofthe world.
What the world has to offer ismore important to you than God.
You pick girlfriends out of theworld.
You kick the pretty little oldthing that don't know nothing
about God.
Let her inside of your heart.
Let him inside of your heart andthen expect to warm him up.
You've got to be kidding.
That never works.
(38:20):
Amen.
Chances are if you get him,he'll cool you down.
If you get her, she'll cool youdown.
Amen.
You'll never get back up likeyou once was.
Come on, somebody shop.
Amen.
That's right.
Oh, yes, my friend, we won't buytickets to the theater, but
we'll go someplace else that'snot considered a theater.
(38:41):
But we're there for the samereason.
We get pleasure out of watchingmovies.
Whether they're about wildlifeor skylive or sea life or
whatever they're about, we getenjoyment out of entertainment.
Hey, man, you come to church.
Nobody's entertaining.
We don't have no sideshows.
And you said, man, that's aboring place to be.
(39:03):
Go to church and be nothing inchurch.
Church doesn't do nothing forme.
I'd rather be doing this.
I'd rather go out and have fun.
I'd rather go to the mall.
I'd rather do anything to dowith a little boring church.
You're in the wrong task.
You're in the wrong mood.
You're gonna need to betransformed.
(39:24):
You're gonna need your mindmood.
You're gonna need to get theHoly Ghost put it back in your
soul.
You're gonna need the help ofthe Holy Heaven here! You're
gonna be the help of the HolyGhost! I don't care who you are!
Who your mom and dad is! You canget so cold that you cannot be
helped!
SPEAKER_01 (39:56):
Will I ever do
anything for God?
SPEAKER_00 (39:58):
It depends on are
you willing to let God on the
inside to work out the problem?
Are you willing to let God onthe inside to work out the
problems?
Church is not the problem.
The problem rests right here.
Church has never been theproblem.
(40:19):
Church solves problems.
Church puts the equilibrium inmarriage.
Church puts a puts arighteousness in you.
Church makes you live to afellowship that's holy and
righteous.
Amen.
The church is not the problem.
The preacher's not the problem.
Amen.
The choir's not the problem.
The problem rests right here inthe human heart.
(40:40):
And until we're willing to say,God, put me in your mold and
transform me.
Transform me.
It may mean that I must die tomyself.
I must die to the things that Ithink I love.
I must let go of things that Ithink I can't live without.
But oh God, if it means that Ican live in eternity, amen, that
(41:02):
I'm willing to die now, that Ican live later.
The word transformed comes fromthe word metaphoris.
Metaphorist just simply is aconversion.
Amen.
Little old ugly wiggle worm.
Amen.
Climbs up a limb and gets upthere on top of it and weaves
(41:23):
his own casket.
He'll start and weave his ownlittle casket around him.
Weave and weave and weave untilhe shuts the world out.
And then he seals himself in.
He goes in as an ugly, detestable, earthbound little
thing, just crawling around, stepped on, picked up by birds.
Amen.
Despised by most people as ugly.
(41:45):
Amen.
Come on now.
But after he goes through thetransforming of God, he dies to
the world.
It may rain.
He doesn't care.
It may do whatever it will do.
The flowers are blooming.
People are going up and down theroad.
He doesn't care.
He waits until thetransformation is complete.
And then all of a sudden, up outof that little old casket.
(42:08):
That self-made amen.
That self-made little casket.
He sticks out his head.
And then he pulls out his body.
And that little old worldly wormhas changed.
A sleek body with slender legs.
And he unfolds wings.
And the collar of those wingsare nothing like the ugly,
detestable little coat that hewore.
(42:30):
It looks like God Himself hastaken the paintbrush and picked
out collar hues from heaven andpainted him all over again until
he cannot be conquered.
Amen, or conquered by anything.
He is his own now.
Amen.
He doesn't go back down the treecrawling.
He doesn't go back down to theearth.
(42:50):
He unfolds his wings.
Who taught him to fly?
He learned when he died.
Amen and when he came out, hewas transformed.
Watched he was down to theearth.
Now he flies to the heavens.
Over the top of the trees.
Look at the south he goes.
Who the sun is set free?
(43:11):
It's free in the day.
Paul said, You need to literallycrucify yourself.
You need to literally immobilizethe old man.
(43:35):
You need to come to grips withyourself.
For you indeed, sir, are yourworst enemy.
Anybody say amen?
SPEAKER_01 (43:48):
I'm about through.
We need a change.
How many times have you promisedGod?
You're going to.
Never done it yet.
You know what?
You'll never die.
You'll never change completelytill you die.
SPEAKER_00 (44:10):
When you die out
yourself.
And you crawl upon that altarand you say, God, here I am.
Oh God.
Use me in any capacity you wantme to.
Anything that you want me to do,I have no greater joy than to do
your will.
Then when we lay ourselves outbefore God, He doesn't want us
(44:30):
to die except Hiself.
He wants us to live and takethis glow back out into the
world.
Amen.
Amen.
Hallelujah.
Glory to God.
Men of old.
Men of old walked on train.
(44:54):
Sit down in their seat.
It is said.
It is said that two men at thesame instant boldly, one from
the back of a coach, the otherfrom the front.
And run.
And got front of this man of Godand said, Sir, you convict me of
my sin.
What was it?
(45:14):
He didn't pack a Bible andwasn't preaching?
He merely walked in and satdown.
But oh, you can live in such alight that that glow goes into
the world.
Amen.
And men are convicted by the wayyou live and the way you talk
and the way you conductyourself.
God needs lights.
You are like a light that's seton a hill.
(45:37):
A city that's set on a hill thatcannot be hid.
That's what God wants.
Men that have the glow ofPentecost.
Men who have the fire ofPentecost.
Men who have been baptized withthe Holy Ghost and fire.
And literally have been set onfire of the Holy Ghost.
Men who will not cheapen theirlife.
(45:58):
Men who will not get down to theworld's level.
But men who will break a trailto get higher so other men may
follow them.
When was the last time youprayed through?
To where God put you on amission for Him.
(46:20):
When was the last time youprayed through until God said,
Alright, I'm going to give youthis soul to pray for?
I'm going to put this one onyour heart.
I want you to pack it like amother does his child.
Until he be born in my When wasthe last time God gave you a
word to take it to someone else?
(46:41):
When was the last time he gaveyou a message or someone else?
When was the last time God usedyou in any capacity?
And I can tell you why you'renot any hotter than you are.
(47:12):
Paul says to them, You must betransformed by the renewing of
your mind.
You must have your thinkingchanged.
You must alter the way that youthink.
Amen.
You come tonight, didn't you?
Yes, I'm real proud of you.
You're here tonight.
You're here, but what did youbring?
(47:34):
You're here tonight.
I'm I appreciate yourattendance.
You gave him the offering.
I'm glad you did.
But what did you bring?
Any fire out there?
In fact, I'm feeling sort ofchilled myself.
If it wasn't for the Holy Ghosthelped me, I think you'd have
frozen me out by now.
Is there any warmth out there atall?
Is there any fire in that pewthat you're sitting in?
(47:56):
Do you feel anything for yourneighbor?
Are you radiating anything?
Are you praising God?
Or are you sitting there quiet?
Are you sitting there set backand saying, I'll get over this
preaching?
Amen.
That's just Brother Sutherland.
He's just going through anotherone of those things, and it'll
be over a little bit, and we'llbe out of here and we can forget
about it.
Yes, I know.
That's what you've doneconstantly.
(48:16):
But when you come to this pew, when you come to your place,
what did you bring?
Is anyone warm because of you?
Has your worshiping brought theSpirit of God down?
Amen.
Come on now.
Amen.
Amen.
How many know that's how theHoly Ghost works?
(48:37):
I said, how many knows that'show the Holy Ghost works?
I'm not preaching somethingforeign, am I?
How many knows that's how theHoly Ghost works?
If you've got a bad spirit, youcan freeze folks' plum out.
Amen?
You got an old cantankerousargument in spirit, you'll
freeze folks out.
They'll sit right on the pewnext to you and literally freeze
up.
But if you come in offering Goda sacrifice, you come in
(48:59):
offering yourself as a livingsacrifice, and you can get the
Holy Ghost moving upon you, whoknows, but you may bring
conviction down on the sinnerthat's sitting next to you.
Amen.
And you may want a glory andpeace of God.
You may not want them, amen, toknow what you're doing, but you
cannot hide a Pentecostal fire.
(49:20):
Hold on, God they can sense it.
The minute that you come, I'vewalked in the places, not
breaking on me.
I've walked in the places andpeople said, You're a preacher.
I said, How do you know?
I'm not plugging any Bible.
I'm usually going out.
Amen, I don't look like apreacher.
Amen, I'm dirty of working, butthere's been times when I've all
(49:43):
the disguise that I've had.
Working dirty pants, dirtyshirt, dirty hands, a dirty face
and sweating.
They said, You're a preacher,aren't you?
And that's right.
I couldn't announce it.
I didn't even look like apreacher.
But there's times when the HolyGhost, when they come with life,
but the time when the Spirit ofGod will flow from your heart
(50:05):
and touch the lives of otherpeople.
And how much more should it doit in the dispute?
When we come in and we'reunfighting for God, and we're
praising and worshiping God.
Oh, how the globe should turn tointense heat.
SPEAKER_01 (50:30):
Some of you can't.
Because you've been in the worldall week.
You have not read your Bible.
Some of you lied to Mom and Dad.
Hid where you've been.
You think it's hid from God.
(50:51):
What you've been doing is hidfrom God.
Let me tell you something, myfriend.
Ain't nothing hid from God.
SPEAKER_00 (51:01):
That's why you don't
get anointed.
That's why you're not a blessingto your church.
That's why you're not a help toyour friend.
That's why they get no comfortfrom you.
SPEAKER_01 (51:12):
It's because you
have been too long in the world.
Amen, Brother Benny.
SPEAKER_00 (51:29):
We are called to
maintain the globe.
If this church loses itsannoying.
What will we have?
Come on, sisters.
Answer my question.
(51:50):
In the depths of your own heart.
If this church loses itsannoying.
What are we all?
And if nobody else maintains theblow.
If nobody else maintains thisspirit, what happens in your
(52:10):
family?
What happened?
You already know the battle thatwe had to go through to pray the
main to this experience.
What happened when we don't?
(52:32):
What are you gonna offer yourchurch?
You're the fourth generation.
What are you gonna offer yourchurch?
When we die out, does theblessing die out with us?
Like it has with a lot ofchurches.
We sit now all over this valleywith just old folks.
And people go down and say,Well, they've got some old folks
(52:54):
that believe it.
The church is dead.
A handful of old folks trying tomaintain a glow.
They didn't pass it on.
And when you don't pass it on,and you don't live it good
enough, that other people desireit.
You may have it.
(53:14):
But you're like an ember.
You'll die out after a while.
And there'll be no fire.
SPEAKER_01 (53:31):
You need all no
matter how big it is.
SPEAKER_00 (53:58):
How are you gonna
give it to anybody?
What about that?
(54:19):
If we don't give it to a redheart, it may die in the red.
(54:40):
Brother Dare's an old track man.
He knows that when you run arelay, you don't run it by
yourself.
You only run a sign.
The man who starts off the racemust get the torch legally to
you or the baton legally to you.
If it's not a legal pass, you'redisqualified.
You can't pitch it.
(55:01):
You can't drop it.
It's gotta be a legal pass.
Amen.
So the young man in the front isgetting ready to receive it.
Stands with his eyes open andhis hand out, and the man coming
behind falls in and reaches itto him, and then he takes off.
And the man who passed it stepsaside and says, Run.
(55:24):
A lot of churches, they couldhave passed a torch, but the old
preacher stood right there andsaid, No, I'm not getting out of
the way.
I'm not moving out of the way.
I built this thing.
I put my lifeblood in it.
It's my church.
And it died.
In his possession.
(55:46):
Amen, Brother Billy! I'm gonnaask you tonight, is it going to
die in your hand?
Or are you gonna say, Oh God?
Burn brightly within me.
So I can pass this torch over toanother and give it to him so he
(56:11):
can run with it.
And when I pass it to him, letthe experience be full gospel.
Let him know the sanctifiedlife.
Don't know about it.
SPEAKER_01 (56:26):
I'm a preacher to
you tonight.
You know I'm preaching to youthe truth tonight.
SPEAKER_00 (56:34):
You're going to pass
something to your children.
Some of you have already waitedalmost too long to pass the
torch to your children.
You've never none of them havethis Pentecostal experience.
They don't believe in holiness.
SPEAKER_01 (56:59):
And you're gonna
die.
And they're gonna go down abroad road to destruction
because you didn't pass it.
SPEAKER_00 (57:18):
Shall we be a
guardian of the queen?
Shall we pray till our spiritbecomes new again?
Shall we recount our God?
(58:22):
I test him like that.
I guess him this morning when hegot up there.
I gave him breath to breathe, and a song to light his day.
I made my goodness to come tolight.
And I'm asking you to bless himlike that.
And that's what my intention forhim is to save him.
And I'm asking you, sir, I'masking you, ma'am, are you ready
(58:44):
to stand up and say, God, if youbuild that experience back up in
me, I want to be a guardian ofit.
I want to pass it to mychildren.
SPEAKER_01 (59:01):
How many times has
your children heard you pray
through to that unknown time inyour home?
(59:32):
You can make it you can win.
Get down tonight and praythrough until the Holy Ghost
speaks through you and staythere for him to work on you
(59:55):
until when you get up you feellike you're back in the
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:00):
the hand of God.
SPEAKER_01 (01:00:11):
Father, the reason I
preach to my people this way is
because I love them.
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:19):
I don't want them to
lose their godly heritage.
You have put this dry roadchurch right here.
You founded it on thisexperience.
You took people Lord that wasfrom the back part.
You gave them this experience.
SPEAKER_01 (01:00:39):
You built this
church yourself.
Lord don't let us get cold andlook warm in this hour.
The world would cool us off.
Oh god The world would cool usoff.
Anyway it could cool us off.
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:59):
But Lord I'm asking
you to build a fire holy God
holy God in the heart in ourlife you feel them with holy
(01:02:41):
come into this house withthanksgiving and praise with a
shout
