SPEAKER_01 (00:00):
This is familiar,
but I feel like preaching this
this morning.
The fourth chapter of the bookof Saint John.
I do desire your prayers.
(00:23):
Here in my Thompson Chainreference Bible, it has over in
the right column Christ the soulwinner.
I want to add one word to that, and that's what I want to preach
on this morning.
Christ the Master, soul winner.
(00:48):
That was the reason of hiscoming.
That was the reason that Jesuswas concerned for the rich and
the poor, the high and the low,and all the nobodies.
(01:12):
He was for them.
And he wanted to save them.
You know God loved us because hewouldn't have sent his only
begotten Son to this world todie for our sins.
(01:34):
God wants to save the lost.
And come to Jesus.
(01:58):
I want to start reading at verse3.
He left Judea and departed againinto Galilee.
And he must needs go throughSamaria.
Then cometh he to a city ofSamaria, which is called Sichar,
(02:25):
near to the parcel of groundthat Jacob gave to his son
Joseph.
Now Jacob's well was there.
Jesus therefore being weariedwith his journey, set thus on
the well.
(02:45):
And it was about the sixth hourthere cometh a woman of Samaria
to draw water, and Jesus saithunto her, Give me the drink.
For his disciples were gone awayinto the city to buy meat.
(03:06):
Then saith the woman of Samariaunto him, How is it that thou
being a Jew, askest drink of me,which am a woman, a woman of
Samaria?
For the Jews have no dealingswith the Samaritans.
(03:30):
And Jesus answered and said untoher, If thou knewest the gift of
God and who it is that saith tothee, Give me to drink, thou
wouldest have asked of him, andhe would have given thee living
water.
(03:50):
The woman saith unto him, Sir,thou hast nothing to draw with,
and the well is deep.
From whence then hast thou thatliving water?
Art thou greater than our fatherJacob, which gave us the well
(04:12):
and drank thereof himself andhis children and his cattle?
Jesus answered and said untoher, Whosoever drinketh of this
water shall thirst again.
But whosoever drinketh of thewater that I shall give him
shall never thirst.
(04:35):
But the water that I shall givehim shall be in him a well of
water springing up intoeverlasting life.
And the woman said unto him,Sir, give me this water.
(04:56):
Brother, she had been taught to,and Jesus had told her some
things that it made her thirstyfor that water, and and it
wasn't from the water in thewell.
Hallelujah.
(05:16):
And Jesus said, the woman saidunto him, Give me this water,
but I that I thirst not, neithercome hither to draw.
You may be seated.
Jesus, the master, soul winner.
(05:38):
He knew how to do it.
Hallelujah.
And I wanna I want to try topreach to you the minister, some
here in this message.
And I don't want you to thinkthat I know it all because I
don't.
(05:59):
But I believe that Jesus wantsto bless every church that's
represented here today.
Some of you, Brother Lynn hasalready told us, you're just
down to the bottom, probablydiscouraged with your church.
(06:21):
It's not growing, and nothinghardly is happening, and that is
discouraging.
And I want to encourage you thismorning.
There's a lot more to thissalvation than getting up before
(06:43):
a crowd like this and preachingor preaching a bit preaching at
a big church.
It's a lot more to it than justthat.
That shouldn't be your greatestambition.
Your greatest ambition is to winthe souls in your community.
(07:12):
Oh, Brother Ben, that's burnoverground.
I've heard that ever since I'vegot saved.
This is a burnover field.
There's a generation or two thatcome and gone now, since then.
And this whole world in ourcommunities is filled up with
sinners that need to be saved.
(07:33):
Yeah, a lot of them's lives isalready wrecked.
Already they've come to theirropes in.
And a lot of them don't knowwhat to do.
They picked up the dope habitsand the liquor habits, and they
have come to the end of theirroad.
(07:57):
Just like this woman did here inthe fourth chapter of the book
of Saint John.
Should we give those kind ofpeople up?
Should we say in our mindsthere's no use to fool with that
drunk or that doper?
Brother, you get Jesus to walkin in that community with you.
(08:22):
And I don't believe when we goon visitation and knock on doors
that we're by ourselves.
Amen.
What if we did God baptize usministers with the Holy Ghost
and fire?
Didn't He give us a helper?
Someone to come alongside?
(08:45):
Amen.
When we knock on those doors andthey come to the door, there's
more standing there.
But Ben Shaw or some of thefolks in your church, you've got
the Holy Ghost there.
You've got the power of God onyour life.
Somebody said, Well, BrotherBen, I don't know what to say to
(09:09):
people like that.
You just tell them what the Lordhas done for you and give them a
warm invitation to come to yourchurch.
Act like you're excited aboutit.
Not like this.
I would rather say that, hurrychurch.
(09:32):
We're fixing to have a revival.
And we'd like for you to come ifyou if you if you can.
If you can.
I don't say that.
I say we would like for all ofyou to come if you can.
Put some excitement in yourvoice.
(09:53):
And the Holy Ghost to get behindthose sinners.
He'll just go right through thatdoor and get behind them.
And he'll punch that sinner andsays, I want you to look at the
shine and the twinkle in theireyes.
Hallelujah.
Did you you see how happy theyare?
(10:15):
Glory.
And the Holy Ghost will say, that's just exactly what you
need.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
You've got the Holy Ghost withyou.
Hallelujah.
(10:36):
I believe the Lord gives usseveral pointers here concerning
the conversion of this womanthat I think we should take.
But I want to read this first.
I I jotted it down when I foundit.
Dr.
Beecher was asked the questionone time.
(10:59):
He said, What is the greatestwork that a man could do?
His reply was, the greatest workis not political, it's not
ecclesiastical, nor scientific,or philosophical.
The greatest work that a man cando in this world is to lead a
(11:25):
soul to Jesus.
And Henry Ward Beecher was agreat man.
And I believe what he said.
But I believe more of what Jesussaid.
He said, Go ye to all the worldand preach the gospel to every
creature.
(11:45):
He that believeth and isbaptized shall be saved.
And he that believeth not shallbe damned.
Brother, that's some powerfulscripture.
Henry Ward Beecher didn't saythat.
Jesus Christ Himself said that.
Glory to God.
(12:08):
Hallelujah.
All of us knows the story beforewe even get through reading.
But I want to go through it stepby step.
First, Jesus said I he mustneeds go through Samaria.
Uh-oh, that's a no-no.
(12:29):
To come across that line, hispopularity on the graft fell
several points.
But brother, he wasn'tinterested in his reputation.
Hallelujah.
He was interested in souls.
Amen.
(12:51):
He was interested in souls.
And I'll tell you, when Jesussaid he must needs go through
Samaria, that's where he went.
And then he came to a city ofSamaria, which is called Sichar,
near to the parcel of groundthat Jacob gave to his son
(13:15):
Joseph.
Now Jacob's well was there, andJesus therefore, being wearied
with his journey, sat thus onthe well, and it was about the
sixth hour.
And there cometh a woman ofSamaria to draw water.
(13:36):
And Jesus saith unto her, giveme to drink.
Well that was that was reallyout of order as far as she was
concerned, what her countrymenbelieved.
(14:03):
No relations.
No fellowship.
Nothing.
They were prejudiced.
We think there's prejudicebetween Americans and the blacks
and the other colored people.
(14:24):
Brother, we don't know.
We don't know what prejudice is.
Do you know you could call a Jeweverything in the book and curse
him?
To get him the lowest is, lookat him and say, Samaritan, you
(14:48):
put him at the lowest.
Jesus was doing an un thing thatwas not normal.
Amen.
But what he was after was thesoul of this woman.
(15:09):
Hallelujah.
The woman of Samarita.
Samaritan Samaria said unto him,How is it that thou being a Jew
askest drink of me which am awoman of Samaria?
For the Jews have no dealingswith the Samaritans.
(15:35):
And Jesus answered and said untoher, The Bible says, if thou
knewest the gift of God and whoit is that saith to thee, Give
me to drink, thou wouldest haveasked of him, and he would have
(15:57):
given thee living water.
Hallelujah.
That woman had never heardanything about living water.
That struck a note in her heart.
And you notice throughout all ofthis, Jesus was never
(16:20):
discourteous to this woman.
Never discourteous.
He never called her any names.
He never degraded her in anyway.
He wanted her to be saved.
(16:43):
You have a postman or anythingto come to your door delivering
mail or any other kind of aperson coming to your door and
you start off as hey, are yousaved?
That's the wrong tone of voicein the beginning.
Hey, are you saved?
Well, no, I belong to a church.
(17:05):
I reckon I'm saved.
You're gonna die and go to hell.
You just forget it.
You cannot win that person toJesus.
You gotta do it like Jesus didit here.
Just because we're holiness,just because we're Pentecostal,
(17:29):
we can use a good spirit.
Amen.
That's the reason some of yourloved ones is not saved.
That's right.
You've been rough and tough, andyou didn't have no mercy on
them, and they just got sick ofyour religion.
(17:50):
And when you say Pentecostal orholiness, they turn up their
nose to it.
But there is a way to go aboutit.
I said there is a way to goabout it.
Hallelujah.
Boy, you can you can tell thoseon visitation.
(18:14):
We had a wonderful serviceSunday night, and there was a
couple that was lost, come tothe altar, and got saved.
Wonderfully saved.
Holy Ghost be right there andsay, say, do you hear the
excitement in that fellow'svoice?
Can you hear that?
(18:36):
I mean, the Holy Ghost is apunching, the Holy Ghost is a
gouging, and the Holy Ghost istalking.
Do you know the Holy Ghost is atalker?
(19:01):
It's living water.
She'd never heard anything likethat.
Hallelujah.
I've heard of every kind ofwater myself.
Have y'all?
Any of y'all ever had sulfurwater?
(19:22):
That's a smelly kind.
Sandy water.
We've got acid water where we'reat.
Every kind of water, she knewabout it.
But she had never heard of thatliving water.
(19:46):
Woo, Glory.
That put a little more desire inher heart.
You know how steeped people arein their beliefs, in their
raising up and what their momand dad taught them.
And this woman's mom and dadtold them to stay away from the
(20:09):
Jew, don't have anything to dowith them, and here's one
talking to her.
Now that's a barrier to getover.
Amen.
Brother Jesus knew how to scaleit.
Hallelujah.
(20:31):
And she said, Art thou greaterthan our father Jacob, which
gave us the well and drankthereof himself and his children
and his cattle?
Jesus answered and said untoher, Whosoever drinketh of this
water shall thirst again, talking about Jacob's well.
(20:52):
But whosoever drinketh of thewater that I shall give him
shall never thirst.
But the water that I shall givehim shall be in him a well of
water springing up intoeverlasting life.
(21:12):
First it was living water.
She was wetting her appetite.
But brother, when he came downto this, he said, This water
well will be in you.
Hallelujah.
And the Bible says it shall be awater springing up into
(21:33):
everlasting life.
Have you got it?
I feel it already this morning.
Have we got it?
Let's share it with others.
I know this altogether is noshouting message.
(21:55):
But I tell you what, I think theLord laid this on my heart.
Somebody in this church houseneeds it.
You know, Brother Lee and I reada little saying one time.
It said, he said, a man thatwill not advertise is like a
(22:21):
fella sitting in the dark.
He knows what he's doing, butnobody else does.
Oh, some pastors are I don'tbelieve in that visitation
stuff.
You're just about at the pointof no return, sir.
(22:47):
You wouldn't have a businesswithout advertising, would you?
We believe in passing outpamphlets four times a year and
knocking on every door in thaton the mailing routes of foul.
Every New Year's Day, every NewYear's revival.
(23:09):
We would just come through oneof them, and Brother Brim
preached us a wonderful, although I was in and out about
twice.
I come home and maybe therevival is closed, you know, and
it's still going.
I just got in every time.
Hallelujah.
We have an Easter homecomingrevival.
(23:29):
We have camp meeting, and wehave a fall revival.
Sounds like y'all are real.
You know what you're gonna have.
(23:50):
I don't know whether I toldBrother Lloyd or not.
But I found out years ago thatwe needed something right after
the Christmas holidays.
Y'all have a time getting themup.
(24:12):
All the disappointments, andthey wasn't satisfied with their
present.
Oh, and about the last ofJanuary, them bills begin to
pour in.
I figured we need to have arevival every year.
New Year's revival.
(24:34):
We sent them out with some withsome tracks, and we sent them
out with some flyers.
We're advertising.
Everybody in that country knowswhere the Fairland Owned Church
is.
And we've got a sign out front.
(24:55):
Business men, you put up a signwhen you go in business.
Put out front big old letters, red and black letters.
Open for business.
(25:15):
The greatest business isn't inthe world is church business.
I said the greatest business inthe world is church business.
What you need to do is get offof your old lazy and get busy.
(26:02):
Keep on going.
I probably don't seem like I am,but I had to push my way
sometimes.
And Brother Rich, it's not likeme to come blurt out when a man
is preaching like you were.
You done forgive me, hadn't you?
(26:26):
Man, I thought I'd justdisplease God something
ferocious if I hadn't done that.
That's the only way I'll do it.
I thought I wasn't gonna getyour attention.
You I know you're in it.
(26:48):
Put out your sign where you'repastoring.
Put something down the road ifyou're in the country and put an
arrow which way to go.
Let them know you're existing.
Let the community know that youlove them and that you want to
(27:14):
see them and they're probablysaved.
Holin his people.
Somebody told me that y'all wasgetting the word around that the
bulldozer was coming to preachthis morning.
(27:39):
There's the bulldozer.
You know, I'm sorry to say this.
But a lot of our homelesspreachers wouldn't on they
(28:01):
wouldn't even walk on the sameside of the street this woman
walked on.
I don't care how bad they are.
I don't care how low they wentor how high they went.
(28:21):
They need to be saved.
And if she can't, the peoplelike this can't get saved,
they've got a bunch of kids thatneed it.
That's right.
(28:41):
They got a bunch of kids thatneed to be saved, that need to
be taught, that need to be inthis way.
Do you love this way ofholiness?
It's not a hard way, it's ajoyous way.
It's not a you don't have to begrudge.
You don't have to, hey, I've gotto get up today, face a world.
(29:04):
Glory to God, get up.
It may take you a little whileto get up, like me and Sister
Shaw, but when you get up, whenyou get up, say, I'm going for
Jesus today.
Woo! Hallelujah.
(29:31):
I love my pastor.
I've got a home church,preachers.
And the more I know him, thebetter I love him.
Hallelujah.
(29:54):
Glory.
Yeah, I've took up for him.
I said, y'all.
Don't talk to me.
And I told him before I left, Iwas resigning that Sunday.
I said, Don't call me.
You know what I'm talking about.
(30:15):
To tell me something is goingon.
You can call me and talk to me,be friendly.
But I don't want no talk.
I wished I could preach thislike you would preach it,
Brother Lloyd.
(30:35):
I tell you.
I tell you the way Brother Lloydis.
He could preach it tight.
And it'd be the smoothest youever sneak.
He does it in a way that youcan't get hurt with him.
(30:57):
Unless you're just looking forsomebody to get hurt at.
That's the way some folks.
Maybe it's not church folks.
I hope not that they're churchfolks.
But our wholeness movement needsto do something.
(31:19):
I went to church after churchthat the pastor is so
discouraged, they're discouragedto the bone.
Can't have a hardly have a goodservice for the discouragement.
Oh, I love you, boys.
(31:40):
I love you.
And it don't matter what kind ofa, if you got a little
congregation, I'll come andpreach for you.
If you got a middle-sizedchurch, I'll come and preach for
you.
But I'm not picking my churchesto go to.
And when I come, I promise youthat I'll do my best to preach
(32:04):
the gospel.
I know we're going a little slowthis morning, but I want you to
get this.
Some of our holiness preacherwould walk across the street for
somebody like this.
And I know what some of you arethinking.
(32:27):
Oh, Brother Ben, he believes indouble marriage.
No, I don't believe in it.
Some of my young folks is herethis morning.
Not mine, it's Brother Lloyd'syoung folks now.
I can't get out of that, BrotherLloyd.
I hope you don't take offense.
(32:53):
I said, listen, boys, listen,girls.
It's one to a customer.
And I think that's the way weought to preach it.
We can't help those alreadythat's already messed up.
(33:17):
And I let them know every everytime before election, I said,
y'all know how our churchbelieves and how we stand.
Teach no Sunday school class, hold no office.
I don't know about y'all, butI'm not gonna run them off.
Especially if they got five kidsthat I've been preaching to
(33:38):
already for two or three years.
And I've seen some up in thealtar.
See them blessed! I hope nobodydon't fall out with me.
But I'm old enough now to noteven care.
(34:05):
Oh God.
You get off a bowl when you getold.
Lord have mercy.
I loved my young people.
My young people loved me.
They didn't fall out with mebecause of the standard that I
preached.
(34:25):
I didn't preach in everyservice.
God help you if you've got oneor two messages.
What you need to do is quit yourjob and study.
This is a preacher's meeting, Ithink.
(34:49):
Amen.
You love him.
Hallelujah.
Glory.
Give me this water.
He had built her up to acrescendo.
(35:13):
She doesn't heard about theliving water now.
This water that will be a wellin you springing up in the
everlasting life.
You mean you got water?
That if you drink, you will liveforever.
You know why?
(35:33):
I don't believe she said.
Give me this water.
I believe she said, give me thiswater.
Brother Mike, I know that thatthirst never lost its momentum.
(35:54):
Hallelujah.
Brother, she went every step ofthe way with Jesus.
The woman said unto him, I knowthat Messiah is coming.
Yes.
Glory.
And I tell you what, when shewhen she heard, when she hurt,
(36:19):
Jesus said, after she said, Giveme this water.
I want you to notice how polite.
Jesus knew that she was lying.
He knew all about her.
From beginning to end.
(36:43):
He knew her.
Look how polite he was.
Go call thy husband and comehither.
And the woman answered and said,I have no husband.
You know what some of us woulddo if we really knew like Jesus
knew?
(37:04):
Well, you lying, hussy.
I know the Bible says, do notbear false witness.
And the Bible didn't tell us tolove it.
But if Jesus would have rebukedher then, she would have been
(37:29):
lost.
Lost.
And maybe forever.
Oh God.
And Jesus told us, as thou hastwell said.
(37:52):
And I believe it was in thekindest tone that a person could
put it out.
And Jesus could do that.
Thou hast well said, I have nohusband.
For thou hast had five husbands.
And he whom thou now hast is notthy husband.
(38:17):
In that saidest thou truly.
Isn't that kind and courteous?
And the woman saith unto him,Sir, I perceive that thou art a
prophet.
And when she got over there inher hometown, she said, Come and
(38:40):
see a man which told me allthings that ever I did.
Is not this the Christ?
Now the Bible didn't record allof that that Jesus told her.
Can I use my imagination alittle bit?
(39:01):
Now I don't want none of y'allgo home and flip and flip and
flip and try to find out whatI'm fixing to say.
And then after you find out itain't there, you say, Well, I've
been shawl's a false prophet.
This is not in the word of God.
If you find out where you'regoing, says, Don't go.
(39:25):
This is me.
Right all.
Just trying to get anunderstanding.
It's just me, right all?
All right.
(39:45):
Jesus said, husband number one, call his name.
And said a few things to let herknow that he knew what happened.
Number two, his name was John.
And so and so and so.
(40:06):
Number three, called his nameand gave her a few things.
Four and five.
That's the reason she said, Iperceive that thou art a
prophet.
That sound pretty reasonable.
(40:31):
And when she said he's told meall that ever I did, that's the
reason she said, I perceive thatyou are a prophet.
I mean, come on now.
Has the bell rung yet?
(40:56):
Somebody said, Brother Ben, Inever have been able to visit.
Never have been able.
I'm just a little nothing.
I found this little thing in theother day, and I thought I'd
just cut it out and bring ithere and read it to you.
(41:20):
Said he couldn't speak.
This is a little poem I found.
He couldn't speak before acrowd.
And he couldn't teach a class.
But when he came to Sundayschool, he brought the folks in
mass.
That means a lot of them.
(41:43):
He couldn't sing to save hislife.
In public he couldn't pray.
But always his jalopy was justcrowned with people on each
Lord's day.
And although he could not singnor teach nor lead in prayer, he
(42:08):
listened well.
Wouldn't you like to have awhole church full of them?
He had a smile, and he alwayswas there.
Oh, that sounds good.
With all the others whom hebrought who lived near and far,
(42:29):
and God's work prospered.
For he had a consecrated car.
Or a jalopy.
To you young ones, that means anold car.
Wouldn't you like to have aboutfifteen of these in your church?
(42:54):
With their jalopy crowned withfolks to come to Sunday school.
Oh, glory be to Jesus.
Hallelujah.
Glory.
(43:17):
Well, I think you need to readit again.
She said, Come, she left herwater pot and went her way into
the city and saith to the men, that water pot was one of the
most important things in herhome.
(43:39):
But she was so thrilled withthis living water that she got a
drink of.
The Bible said she left herwater pot, went into the city,
and she said, Come and see a manwhich told me all things that
ever I did.
Is not this the Christ?
(44:02):
And then they went out of thecity and came unto him.
Hallelujah.
And the Bible went on to say,and there were many believed on
him because of what she said.
And the rest of them that wasn'tconvinced went out to see him.
(44:29):
Somebody says, Brother, I stilldon't believe she is saved.
Well, let me go on.
How many of you, ladies, hasstirred a whole city?
(44:50):
How many of you that's causedrevival to come to a city and
hundreds and hundreds of peoplegot saved?
Raise your hand.
Raise your hand.
Raise your hand.
(45:10):
I'd like to be one that I couldstir a whole city, wouldn't you?
You may not be required to stira whole city, but you can stir a
whole community.
Hallelujah.
Come and see a man.
(45:31):
And they went out.
And they had a revival.
Hallelujah.
I did suggest to our folks atone time when I was pastor, hey
folks, we tried everything thatwas legal.
(45:59):
Everything that I could thinkof, everything that our members
could think of, we tried it.
Because our church loved souls.
I'm going to tell you this andI'm closing.
All of you know Kenneth Wilson,or maybe most a lot of you do,
(46:22):
I'll say it like that.
He was there in our church, asingle boy.
And he was talking to his oldboyfriends and schoolmates right
along there in Texas Canada.
He came up to one of his friendsand he said, Boy, says we're
having revival.
Won't you come and go with ustonight?
(46:44):
He said, Oh, Kenneth, I don'twant that religion stuff.
He said, get out of here.
Old Kenneth says, Boy, I'll tellyou what I'll do.
I'll give you$20 if you'll comeand go with me tonight.
He said, Well, that changesthings a good bit.
(47:08):
Kenneth got him there and he ledhim on what toward the front
