St. Cloud State women take first ever win at Ridder; UMass stops top-ranked BC men - CHS 2-14-25

We’ll start with the women, because ladies first on Valentine’s Day. 
No. 11 St. Cloud State made history with a thrilling 4-3 win over No. 3 Minnesota, marking its first-ever victory at Minnesota in program history. The Huskies, now 1-62-2 all-time in that matchup, got two goals from Sofianna Sundelin, and Ella Anick buried the game-winner from the top of the slot with just 30 seconds left to seal the win—also marking coach Brian Idalski’s 50th behind the bench at St. Cloud. According to Nicole Haase, that’s Minnesota’s first four game losing streak in women’s hockey - EVER. Thanks to Jaxon for pointing that one out. 

No. 4 Cornell maintained its spot atop the ECAC standings with a 6-2 win over Brown, getting goals from five different players, while No. 5 Colgate stayed right behind with a 3-0 shutout of Yale behind Kristyna Kaltounkova’s 26th goal of the season. 

No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth put on an offensive show in an 8-2 rout of Minnesota State, with Clara Van Wieren netting a hat trick and Olivia Wallin racking up a six-point night with two goals and four assists. 

Dartmouth pulled off a massive upset, stunning No. 7 St. Lawrence 2-0 despite being outshot 36-11. No. 8 Clarkson’s tournament hopes stayed alive as Sena Catterall scored three goals in a 4-0 win over Harvard. No. 9 Penn State tied a program record with its 27th win of the season, with Grace Outwater tallying her 16th goal of the year in a 4-1 win over RIT. No. 10 Quinnipiac rolled past RPI 7-1 behind a hat trick from Bryn Prier. 

In other action, No. 13 Boston University edged New Hampshire 2-1, No. 12 Princeton needed overtime to get past Union 2-1, and Providence took down No. 14 UConn 3-1. No. 15 Northeastern outlasted Boston College 5-4 in overtime, Lindenwood handled Robert Morris 5-1, and Mercyhurst topped Syracuse 5-3. 

Merrimack and Maine played to a 1-1 tie before Merrimack won the shootout, while Post edged LIU 3-2. Franklin Pierce defeated Sacred Heart 4-2, Assumption beat St. Michael’s 3-1, and Stonehill and St. Anselm skated to a 2-2 draw before Stonehill took the shootout win. Bemidji State blanked St. Thomas 5-0 in the WCHA.

On the men’s side, No. 16 UMass in a stunner, knocking off top-ranked Boston College 3-2 at Conte Forum behind a goal and an assist each from Cole O’Hara and Jack Musa. 

In the NCHC, No. 3 Western Michigan stayed alone atop the standings with a 5-4 overtime win against No. 20 Omaha, thanks to Joona Vaisanen’s game-winner. No. 12 Michigan also needed overtime, as Ethan Edwards lifted the Wolverines past No. 4 Minnesota 3-2 at Yost. In Hockey East, No. 5 Maine and New Hampshire skated to a 1-1 tie, but the Black Bears grabbed the extra point in the shootout to pull even with BC atop the conference standings with 38 points and six games to go. 

No. 6 Denver delivered a dominant 4-0 shutout of No. 17 North Dakota, with Jack Devine scoring twice. However, Denver starting goalie Matt Davis left the game in the third period, something to monitor as the Pioneers are already short on goaltenders.  

No. 7 Providence rolled past No. 9 Boston University 6-3 with six different goal scorers, while No. 8 Ohio State took down Wisconsin 4-1 behind two goals from Riley Thompson and Gunnarwolfe Fontaine’s 13th of the year. Aaron Pionk played hero for Minnesota-Duluth, scoring the OT game-winner in a 3-2 victory over No. 10 Arizona State. 

Northeastern continued the Hockey East chaos, shutting out No.
