Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ninety six point three. K. Hey country, this is Amber
Band and I am talking to Josh Abbot from the
Josh Abbot Band, Josh Talolpasso.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Hello, Hey, everybody. Good to talk to you.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
So you know you are going to be here and
I'll pass so next Friday at the Elmont Social. But
first I want to tell you congratulations on going gold
last year with your song Settled Me Down. I listened
to it earlier this morning. I sent it to my husband.
It's a great it's a wonderful song. I love the lyrics.
So congratulations on that.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I appreciate that. That was that was a real moment
for us to celebrate. Anytime you get to go gold
is a cool moment. But that song went gold a
lot faster than some of our other songs did, which
is crazy because of how popular and successful some of
our other songs have been. Right, She's like text sers

(00:52):
and O deny that. But getting that gold status take
so a while. It took those songs ten years, and
for us Settle Me Down to h took four. And
so that was just like really cool for us to
see a song like that do so well in such
a fast paced time.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Yeah, you had talked about the song, She's like Texas
impacting lives and big moments, and honestly, with Father's Day
coming up this Sunday, I think, you know, people make
their social media posts and they put the background music.
I think settle me Down, however you interpret it would
be a great a great song for those posts. And
you guys also have a very successful touring act. I'm
so excited to see it. You have lots of tour

(01:31):
dates in Texas this year, including us the sun City
next Friday, so yeah, can to be at the Almont Solcial.
It's like a pool side venue. Is that a new
kind of venue for you?

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah? Kind of. I feel like we've played something similar
in you know, maybe like in Vegas or something like that. Yah. Yeah,
you know, but you know, it's definitely it's a little
more abnormal than the normal honky tonk or rodeo or
something like that that we traditionally play. So it's definitely
going to be different. And we're really excited about like
the way their theme and the way they're kind of

(02:01):
you know, celebrating it being a Texas pool party and
they're calling it, you know, boots and bikinis, and I
just think that's like really fun and it's just gonna
be I mean, the vibes will be good that day.
Everybody will be, you know, having a good time and
hanging in the pool and listening to music and partying.
It'll be cool.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
It's gonna be fun because a lot of times when
you're at these festivals or concerts in the summer, especially
in Texas. You're from Texas, you know what I mean,
it's the heat. So it's gonna be a lot nicer
to cool down and you're gonna have to tread in
your boots for chank last. Do you know what chunk
lusts are?

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Of course I love that, So yeah, I was.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Like, I'm gonna have to teach Josh Abbat the term
chunk lest. So yeah, take some extra chunk lest there.
And you all are not new to all pass So
you recorded your twenty twenty album Highway Kind at Sonic
Ranch here in al Passo, and I know last year
I was there at Lowbra when you performed with Megan Patrick.
Has that given you a chance at all to explore
Al Paso? And if so, like, what are some of

(02:54):
your favorite spots or some spots that you've been to
if you remember, I know you do a lot of touring.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Oooh okay, yeah, absolutely, so I think El Paso is wonderful.
And we did record that record there out in twenty nineteen,
and so that's you did. You did your homework there
pretty good. My favorite place to go eat is Cafe Central.
That's where it was. Yeah, it's of core, So Cafe

(03:20):
Centrall is like my spot and when I'm in El Paso,
I like to eat there. There's a lot of other
great spots though. Obviously it's just a beautiful community and
people and you know, I have a little familiarity that
you might not know about with El Paso because my
dad's mom, my grandma, lived there and passed away there

(03:40):
years ago. But whenever we used to back in the
day when we were kind of getting going, we would
play in El Paso at a place called Whiskey Dicks. Yeah,
and we played there, you know, once every year or two,
and anytime we'd come through, my grandma would come out,
and you know, i'd get her, I'd sit her kind
of up there with a p and she'd get to

(04:01):
watch me play, and I'd somebody would always come through
selling flowers and so I would and I would buy
I'd buy some roses and I'd give her some and
that was really special for her. You know, she passed
away years ago now, so I no longer have that
you know, connection tel Passo, but definitely a lot of
familiarity with the city from visiting over the years, and obviously,

(04:25):
like you said, recording that album out there.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Oh my gosh, I love that you have. So we
at khe dot com we're actually going to be giving
away VIPs and meeting greets. People can go sign up
at our contest page. So my question to you is
what is your favorite part about meeting fans.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
That's so cool of you to ask that. That's an
interesting way of framing it. I mean, really, sometimes they
just have the coolest stories about you can tell that
they've been kind of like wanting to tell me about
how like, Hey, I went to your concert at this
one year and I ended up being in the pit
and I became friends with this person next to me.

(05:01):
We sing your songs all night, and now they're like,
we're best friends, and we've been best friends for a decade.
And then you know so many people who are like
our first date was to your concert, and we got
married and we use that we used one of your
songs in our wedding, you know, I mean, just like
the amount of stories every now and you'll meet somebody
with a little bit more sad story where they're saying, like, hey,

(05:22):
this song that you have really reminds me of my
cousin or my sister that I lost to cancer or whatever.
And anytime you see she's like, Texas, I think of them,
and so I don't know, it's just those personal touches
that really bring home the fact that this is more
than just copy and paste touring, you know, where you
just show up to a new city and you sing
the songs. Because from our side of things, you know,

(05:44):
it's a routine. You know, we're showing up to these
cities and we're putting on a show and we're singing
these songs. But for the fans that show up, they
don't show up every night. It's not something that's mundane
to them. It's something that's very personal. And so anytime
you get to meet the fans and they take that
moment to thank you for just the song or tell
you how much something means to them, it really just
it makes this even cooler.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Oh yeah, no, I get that. I bet you understand
that a lot more now that you have your little ones.
It means something different to you probably now when people
come and tell you about, you know, stories about being
a parent or their kids.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
So oh, I mean absolutely. I mean, like, my daughter's
eight years old and more. Car she's at a point
now where she likes to sing songs and she has requests.
You know, We've gone from Disney songs and all that
to like she wants to hear Ella Langley, she wants
to hear Harley Pearce, and she wants to hear Faith
Carter and and Laney Wilson and Katie Auferman. She's like

(06:40):
real big into all the female country artists, which obviously
we support, and you know, we definitely like introduced a
lot of it to her because I'm like, this is
daddy's friend, Oh, Caitlyn. But she's a huge Kaitlyn Butts fan,
and so it's just like all these I see with
Casey Musgrave. Well, it's crazy too because I still don't
think it clicks to her that like she's met and
hung out with these people like FaceTime. We FaceTime some

(07:01):
of these people and she's met you know, Carly Pearson,
hung out with you know, gone and seeing Ella Langley,
and she hangs out with Caitlyn Butts and Katie Offerman
and Katie made her a necklace for like her birthday
or something. I'll send it to it. So it's like,
I think one day, when she gets older, she's gonna
be like, wait a minute, that was so cool. That's
not normal. I think she thinks it's normal for people

(07:23):
to know these singers, but I'm like, at some point
in time it's going to click to her that like, no,
it's not normal at all. You just have this kind
of cool, unique life where you've at a young age,
been given access to these people that you listen to.
That is so I don't know, I don't want to ramble,
but like as a father kind of going back to
what you're saying, it is cool because I picture like,

(07:44):
at some point in time, we're going to have that
one song that it's our song and we sing it
to each other and then maybe that's the song we
danced to at her wedding twenty years from now, and
that's just cool.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
What It's just West Texas started my eye. Okay, I'm
not crying.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Yeah, oh you know, I know what you did there.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
So, Josh, is there anything else that you would like
to tell the listening audience.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
No, I mean, I'm just not one of those guys
that gets on here and talks about how all the
ways you can find me and all the ways you
can listen to our music and all these narcissistic things.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Like, all right, I appreciate it for you all.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Tell we appreciate everybody that's been a part of our
journey come to a show. You know, sometimes fans come
to every show and sometimes they come once every five years,
and it's just we get it. You know, everybody has
varying stages of life and they're busy, and we just
appreciate people who spend their time listening to our music
and coming to our shows and being a part of
what we do. And I think this show that we

(08:36):
have coming up in El Paso is going to be
a real winner. I hope. You know it's it's kind
of a new spot and we've never played there before,
so hopefully some people give it a shot. Hopefully a
lot of people are like, I'm gonna go try this
new place out because I don't know. To me, it
sounds fun. A resort pool with a country music band
and a big party like that sounds like where I
want to be. It's going to be Friday night, so

(08:57):
let's let's make it happen El Paso.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
It's definitely going to be amazing. I'm going to head
over there right after my line dance workshop. I'm going
to take my Chunk lass with me so you can
switch between your boots your chunk last the Josh Avid
Band at Almont's Social June twentieth. Josh, thank you so
much for talking with me today. It's been a real pleasure.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
I appreciate you and the work you did being prepared
for this interview. You're awesome. Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Thank you, Josh, Bye bye
