Facepalm America. I'm Baiyable Frocklin.Facepalmamerica dot com is where you can go
for more information about the show.Face Palm USA on Twitter. I won't
call it the other thing. Ijust won't because I'm stubborn. You can
find us on Facebook too. It'sbeen a little while, you know,
(00:37):
sometimes I just get in a moodof not really being into talking about events.
And I suppose, as someone inthe digital world who has the option
of mixing in things that are liveand mixing in things that have already been
(01:04):
done, I have a certain flexibilityin terms of producing new material. But
as I'm sure you saw the othernight, there was just a massacre,
an absolute massacre at the presidential debate. Joe Biden was just trashed. I
(01:32):
mean, it's not even accurate becauseit really didn't have anything to do with
Donald Trump. Donald Trump was doingwhat Donald Trump does. He sits there
and lies and meanders and strangely, and this is something that a number of
people that I spoke to noticed. His ability to meander was actually hampered by
(02:00):
the debate format, the fact thaton CNN, when somebody's time was up,
they turned down their microphone, andso Donald Trump didn't have the ability
to be or prepeared to be theass that he is. It actually made
(02:23):
him look good in a way becausehe couldn't talk over people, he couldn't
interrupt them, so he appeared tobe more polite and more coherent than he
usually is. But he basically didwhat about what he usually did. Donald
(02:46):
Trump Biden, in a way iscontinuing a through line. He looked horrible.
He was incoherent, He couldn't formcomplete sentences. Many of the time,
he rushed to shove talking points intoa short space of time that it
(03:16):
wasn't entirely clear he really understood. And the visuals of him appearing to stare
off into the middle distance literally slackjawed, literally his mouth a gape.
(03:38):
And it's sad for me to saythis, looking as if he were wandering
the halls of a care facility. It's I mean, we have seen bad
performances before. And let me beclear, this is not isolated. This
(03:59):
has been happening, maybe not quitethis bad. This has been happening for
a long time. If you watchor read the transcripts of recent interviews,
if you watch performances at various speeches, especially on any occasion where he's unscripted.
(04:25):
You know that he is aging andhe is losing his mental acuity.
And this happens to people often whenthey get older. Everybody loses a step,
and he is at that stage forhim, and it's sad. But
(04:54):
what is sadder and what is moreinfuriating, is the fact that he was
put in that position to begin with. Joe Biden did not have to run
for reelection. And I know thatI've heard people and people have come on
(05:15):
this program and said, well, the sitting president is always going to get
a chance to run for reelection. That doesn't have to be the case.
That does not have to be thecase. We were put in a position
in early twenty twenty when the mostpopular politician in the country, one who
(05:43):
could have soundly defeated Donald Trump,Bernie Sanders, was stopped by the powers
that be in the Democratic Party whenthey coalesced around Joe Biden, the oldest
and the most conservative of the Democrats, running for president, and for all
(06:13):
my feeling of humanity for Joe Biden, and I voted for Joe Biden.
God help me, I voted forJoe Biden. Because I wanted to stop
a Trump presidency. But he wasthe worst candidate to have chosen to go
against Donald Trump. He beat himbecause Donald Trump was so much worse.
(06:36):
But remember in early twenty twenty, when everybody right before South Carolina had dropped
out. Joe Biden had done poorlyin New Hampshire, he had done poorly
in other places, and a decisionwas made, Okay, it's got to
be Joe Biden, so buddhaj Edgeand ye god, there were so many
(07:00):
other candidates. They all dropped out, and the forces of the right within
the Democratic Party got behind Joe Bidenbecause they were more afraid that Bernie Sanders
and the left would have their saythan they were of defeating than Donald Trump
(07:27):
would win. In fact, BernieSanders would easily have beaten him by more
in twenty twenty. Donald Trump andthe Democrats didn't want to see that happened,
so they were willing to have asmaller margin of victory, and they
won, but given the narrow marginsin places like Wisconsin and Michigan, it
(07:55):
wasn't by a whole heck of alot, And thank God that it it
happened. But everybody yeah. Ilove my brothers and sisters on the left
and in the Democratic Party. Ido because they are trying for good things.
(08:16):
Most of them, I believe, genuinely want good things to happen.
But it is not true. Itis not true that Joe Biden has been
the most liberal president of our lifetimes. It is not true that he is
(08:37):
the most pro labor president of ourlifetimes. It is not true that he's
the most progressive president since FDR.That's nonsense. That's utter and complete nonsense.
It's not true. It is demonstrablyfalse. He got a watered down
(09:01):
version of the infrastructure bill through,He refused to push for an increase in
the minimum wage, he refused topush for a better deal for labor.
He backed down when he got theslightest flack about his plan to relieve student
(09:26):
debt burdens, and now like ifhis efforts on that front are a pathetic
shadow of the pathetic shadow that theywere when he made his actual proposals.
He has been a conservative Democrat byand large. He's better than Trump in
(09:48):
a lot of respects. But Imean he's just as conservative on the border.
I mean, he's not actually buildingthe wall but the kids in cages
have not gone away. We stillhave those humanitarian issues on the border,
(10:11):
and he's limiting asylum. He's doingthe same thing in a slightly nicer way
than Donald Trump. He is nota progressive president, and he's a bad
choice in terms of policy. AndI think finally the other night in Atlanta,
(10:35):
at this debate, the rest ofthe world and the rest of the
nation saw that he's just a badchoice because said policy aside, because he's
not capable of being president, letalone, let alone debating Donald Trump.
(11:03):
It's not just a one time thing. We've seen this again and again.
And anyone at this point in theDemocratic Party who saw what went on and
said, oh, well he justhad a cold, or he said,
oh, it was a shaky performance. It was just a one time thing.
(11:24):
Though, well he'll get better inthe next one. You're deluding yourself.
You're delusional. And what has tohappen at this point is Joe has
got to go. Joe has gotto go for his own good for the
(11:52):
good of the party. Not thatI not that I really care about the
Democratic Party in accepting as much asit can positive results for people. If
it can do that great. Ifit can't, I don't really care.
Well, I mean, what goodis a party if it can't do something?
(12:15):
Hey, you know, okay,it prevented something from horrible or more
horrible happening than Trump. Because rememberwe've been through a Trump presidency. We
survived. It was not good, and it'll be worse the second time.
And there's a very strong likelihood thatit's gonna happen again. It's gonna be
(12:41):
worse just I mean, based onlast night. But Joe has got to
go. Will the Democrats do it? Will the Democrats switch them out?
I'm not hopeful. I'm really notvery hopeful. But we will discuss this
(13:03):
more in a moment. I'm BeowulfRocklin. This is faced Palm America.
We'll be right back. This yearmarks the forty fourth anniversary presentation of a

year's A Capital Fourth. We're performingwe Are Family. We love singing We
(14:11):

at America's celebration. The song weAre Family kind of draws everyone in and
it gives everybody a chance to feelthat ocean of love around you. It
always does that to the audience. You see all different people just come together
(14:33):
whenever we perform that song. Soit's going to be a moment. We

I'm Bail wulf Rocklin. Facepalmamerica dotcom is where you can go for
(15:41):
more information. Joe has got togo. There's just no question about it.
There is no doubt in my mind, and there shouldn't be in yours
that if Joe Biden is retained asthe nominee of the Democratic Party for president,
(16:11):
if he officially becomes the candidate, that he's going to lose against Donald
Trump. Even before this, itwas very likely that he was going to
lose. If you look at thepolls and please do me a favor and
ignore every national poll that you see. It's a waste of time. We
(16:38):
don't have national elections. We haveto until we get rid of the electoral
college. We got to keep remindingpeople of this. It's important. A
poll of five hundred or one thousandAmericans doesn't mean anything. It's just a
vague gauge of opinion. The onlykind of polls that you should even pay
(17:07):
a wit of attention to are individualstate polls, because those are the only
ones that matter, all right.Because the way that our system works is
that people vote in a state, and whoever wins the state by and large,
(17:37):
with a couple of idiosyncratic exceptions, gets the electoral votes for that state.
All right. So when you whenyou see California and a Polly,
okay, yeah, that's going tobe in favor of Biden. When you
see Texas, okay, yeah,it's going to be in favor of Trump
(18:00):
by you know, five or orten percentage points at least. And you've
got to count the electoral votes becausethose are the only ones that matter.
Trump Trump never won the popular vote. He only won the electoral vote,
all right, And you count themup and in order to win as as
(18:26):
it stands, or stood like aweek ago, Biden was going to need
to win Wisconsin, he was goingto need to win Pennsylvania, and he
was gonna need to win Michigan inorder to get just barely two hundred and
seventy electoral votes, which is abare majority of what you need to win.
(18:51):
Go to two seventy to win dotcom. They do a very good
aggregation of both the electoral votes andof the most recent state votes, a
polling average of each state vote. That's what I go for. And if
(19:11):
you looked at that Biden, Bidenwas losing to Trump by about three or
four points in Pennsylvania, he waslosing to him by two points in Michigan,
and almost dead even in Wisconsin.I think it had just tipped in
(19:34):
favor of Trump, just bite twopercent. Choyes. Those are all I
know, they're all within the marginever error, but they're all tilting towards
Trump. That's before that's before thedebate performance. What I'm trying to do
here is I'm trying to emphasize toyou how significant this is. That's going
(20:00):
to make things even worse, andBiden's not getting younger. He's not getting
better, all right, and thereis an opportunity here to make a change.
And believe me, they're all theall the people that are being mentioned,
(20:26):
and there is a lot of mentionof them right now. People are
talking about many people agree with meon this. In the commentariat, they
said, well, we got toswitch Biden out. Let's talk about this.
Who would we put up there? And the names that I hear Gavin
Newsom, Oh god, there's somuch that I disagree with Gavin Newsom on.
(20:48):
Kamala Harris, so much that Idisagree with with her on I Really,
they would really not be my preferenceas as president. They're too conservative.
But either of them, either ofthem would stand a far better chance
(21:08):
than Joe Biden of winning against DonaldTrump and preventing the out and out fascism
that we are staring down the barrelof Gritch and Whitmer. You know,
she might do, okay, thegovernor of Michigan, that would be a
(21:30):
possible. You know, I've heardI have mixed feelings about her too,
and you know, because of herhusband's politics. Michelle Obama, I don't
know if she would be my idealpresident. She said, she hasn't wanted
to do it, but she wouldstill wallop Donald Trump in a general election.
(21:53):
You know she would. God forbidyou know an actual, you know,
person of the left. The termsliberal and and you know, leftist,
I don't know, especially liberal.Liberal kind of doesn't mean that you're
(22:15):
to the left anymore. Kind ofmeans that you're in the middle of these
days, as far as I'm ableto tell. But God forbid, you
know a Bernie Sanders or or astrong progressive like an AOC. I guess
she's still a little too young,But God forbid someone like that could actually
be on the ballot, because weknow how how hard the Democratic Party has
(22:37):
been fighting against that. And I'msitting here talking and I'm thinking to myself,
the Democratic Party, in spite ofhow painfully obvious it is that Joe
Biden is no, he is notup to this task. Not just no
(23:00):
longer, in my opinion, notnot desirable to begin with, but he's
he is clearly not up to thetask. And and this is and this
is setting aside the fact that thathe has helped perpetrate a genocide in Gaza.
(23:21):
This is aside from that, becauseI can't tell you how many young
people are are refusing to vote forJoe Biden and just you know, people
who have a conscience he's done thewrong thing. He's supported Netan Yahoo as
(23:41):
he's perpetrated a genocide. So there'sthat as well. But there's there's so
many alternatives, so many alternatives, and I just fear that the Democratic part
is not going to do anything. They're just going to dig their heels in
(24:06):
more and they're going to take anotherbeating. It's like they enjoy taking a
beating and then complaining about it.It's really really frightening. I have no
confidence whatsoever that the Democratic Party isgonna say before leading up to going into
(24:33):
the Democratic Convention in August. Joehas got to go. I don't think
they'll say it. I hope theydo. I pray they do, because
I do not want Donald Trump tobe president of the United States again.
That is going to be a desperatelydangerous thing into twenty twenty five. We've
(25:00):
talked about it on this show before. That's that's not something that we want
to get anywhere near. Although she'seven under even under Biden, because of
the Supreme Court, we're getting nearerto it the Chevron doctrine had the Supreme
(25:22):
Court decision that was made on thatin the wake of this atrocious debate,
is going to massively reduce the powerof federal agencies to regulate big corporations.
It's a huge destructive blow. Itis every bit as bad as the Dobbs
(25:45):
decision that overturned rovers his wayed everybit as bad. What it's going to
mean is you're going to get morescrewed over as a consumer. If you
breathe oxygen, if you drink water. There's there's gonna be more crap that
(26:12):
you're gonna imbibe and inhale because thefederal government is going to be able to
do less about it. And theymade a ruling that means it's gonna be
harder to prosecute January sixth riders. They made that decision too. Their timing
(26:37):
is impeccable. All of these thingssimultaneously going to show the incredible weakness of
the Democratic Party. I don't thinkI don't think progressives are weak. They're
just bound up by this that purportsto represent them, that actually represents corporate
(27:06):
and moneyed interests far more than them. And also a decision coming down from
my little part of the world, southern Oregon. A decision that based on
a case in Grants Pass, Oregon. It means that homeless people can't sleep
(27:27):
in public, can't even sleep inyour car. You can get arrested.
That's what the Supreme Court says now. And so that's the world we're living
in. Even if Joe Biden gotelected, he wasn't going to do anything
about that. We're we're just likedesperately trying to stave off the very worst
(27:52):
implications of a Trump presidency. Isconsistent real actual progressives and not a doddering
old guy who when he had hisfaculties together, was right leaning at best.
(28:22):
Joe Biden is not what we want. Joe has got to go.
I can't say that enough. Joehas got to go. That's my message.
(28:44):
He's got to go. If hedoesn't, we're going to get far,
far worse. And I urge you, I urge you to take a
look. If you haven't at thewhole debate, even the first like ten
to fifteen minutes of it, isenough, just awful. It was a
(29:10):
massacre. Joe has got to go. I'm Beowolf Rocklin. This is face

stream for two weeks following the livebroadcast on the PBS YouTube channel and on

the PBS app. So anybody else, I'd say, what's going to happen
to you? It would be alesson to you. Only you're going to
need more than one lesson. You'regoing to get more than one life.
That's a clip from what by manyis considered to be the greatest movie of
(32:06):
all time, or you know, frequently as anyway, you know, it's
a good and innovative movie. Oneof the classics. Citizen Kane. And
there's a scene in it that thisclip comes from, where there's an election
Citizen Kane, who owns the newspapers, Charles Foster Kane. He's got a
(32:34):
media empire and he's running for governorof some unknown state. But he also
has developed an extramarital relationship with ayoung woman that he likes, and he's
set her up with a little apartmentlove nest. And though his opponent and
the election is very corrupt, hisopponent has found that this relationship exis and
(33:00):
he threatens to expose it in thisscene, and Charles Foster Kane says,
no, I'm going to fight it. I'm not I'm not going to leave,
you know. His opponent says, well, you've got to pretend that
you're sick. You've got to stepout of the race, and then none
(33:21):
of this will be exposed. Yourchildren won't know about it, and it'll
look better for me. And CharlesFoster Kine says, no, no,
I'm going to fight it because I'mbecause the guy was that stubborn, He
was so full of himself that hestill thought he could win in spite of
(33:42):
the fact that he had a scandalthat meant that there was no way that
he could win. And it wasat that point that the corrupt politician says
to Charles Foster Kane, anybody elsethat'd say, what's going to happen to
you would be a lesson to you, You're gonna need more than one lesson.
You're gonna get more than one lesson. And that statement is the way
(34:08):
that, frankly I feel about theDemocratic Party. I feel that that the
Democratic Party is more concerned about tampingdown its left wing and any real progressives.
It's more concerned about that than itis about defeating Donald Trump, about
(34:35):
preventing America from entering fascism. AndI think that it's gonna need more than
one lesson before it gets that ithasn't had enough. And my fear is
maybe I'm being too negative. Youcan tell me if I'm being too negative,
and we can talk about this inthe future. If you called two
(35:00):
zero two sixty five six six twoseven to one, I don't think I
am. The Democratic Party has gottenitself to a point where it's more it
would rather be right and righteous inits own mind than that actually win.
(35:22):
And I think that's a huge mistake. I think it's a huge, huge
mistake. They are more enthralled totheir own right wing of the Democratic Party.
They are more enthralled to moneyed interests, They're more enthralled to corporate power.
(35:45):
I mean, the Democratic Party atthis point is is essentially a creature
of corporate power. It is notsomething that helps most Americans. And don't
get me wrong, the Republican Partyis even worse. But the Democratic Party
(36:07):
is not the answer. And Iknow that is depressing to a lot of
people. I know that's extremely frighteningto a lot of people. But if
you think about it, it's notbecause the Democratic Party doesn't really represent the
(36:28):
people any more than the Republican Party, you know, represents the vast majority
of the American people. And yousee it in opinion polls. The Democratic
the people, not the parties. The people want healthcare, the people want
affordable prices for goods. The peoplewant like decent and affordable places to live.
(36:57):
The parties, because they answerable topeople who pay them money, who
help them win elections. They don'treally care about that because those corporations and
wealthy people have different interests than youand I. They and they're exceptions,
by and large, want to seemost people vulnerable so that additional wealth can
(37:22):
be extracted from them. People areeasier to extract wealth from when they're weaker,
and so you're not ever, you'recertainly never going to see answers from
their Republican Party. The Republican Partyhas been taken over by fascists and the
(37:42):
Democratic Party has been taken over byneoliberals who care more for corporations than they
do real working people. So you'renot going to get answers out of them.
You just really are not. Soyou have to look elsewhere. And
(38:08):
so let's look elsewhere for a littlebit. It's been a rough couple of
days, so let's take a mentalvacation overseas to gay Pali, Yes,
(38:31):
the City of Light and the locationfor the twenty twenty four Summer Olympics,
which are going to be happening inAugust. But there has been some controversy.
The twenty twenty four parasimper Olympics arejust a month away, but there's
(38:53):
still a nasty controversy brewing over oneof the spots serving as a focal point
for the event, the Sinn River. After months of tests showing high levels
of bacteria from sewage and wastewater. That's right, sewage and wastewater bugs.
(39:15):
What do we mean? Bugs? After bugs, Bacteria in the water has
piled up residents fed up with riverpollution. Just weeks before the Olympic athletes
are set to dive in are threateningto stage a mass defecation in protest.
(39:37):
That's right. Pooping in the Sin. A website has appeared using the viral
hashtag jeshi don le sene de deventoi I'm digging up my old high school
French, and that basically means I'mgoing to poop in the Sein. On
(40:00):
June twenty third, a Google searchfor the phrase directs people to the website,
represented by a poop emoji in thesearch engine. The site repeats the
phrase and aims a taunt squarely atFrench President Emmanuel Emmanuel Macron and Paris mayor
(40:23):
and Hidalgo, who have both vowedto go for a swim before the games
to prove the SIN is safe inspite of the fact that there is bacteria
and bugs in it. What doyou need blogs, I mean, I
mean bacteria, because after putting usin poop, it's up to them to
(40:46):
bathe in the poop, the websitedeclares. It also features a calculator that
lets users input how far they livefrom central Paris and then calculate when they
would need to defecate it in theriver for the waste to end up in
(41:07):
the heart of the capital. Atnoon on June twenty third, I wonder
how this went. I wonder howthis went. Well, you're just gonna
have to say, I know thishas already happened at this point, but
I won't ruin it for you.You can google it if you want.
I can't stop you. But ifyou haven't heard of it, it'll it'll
(41:32):
just it'll be just as funny eitherway. I'm telling you. I'm telling
you. And in another bit ofgood news, It's such a small bit
of good news, but it does. I mean, I've got to look
for something right. The Supreme Court, Joe Biden, the news is not
good, but we we thank Heavenfor small favors. The Supreme Court came
(41:57):
up with one good ruling. Itis rejected Steve Bannon's attempt to avoid prison
time following his contempt of Congress convictions. Yes. In a brief order issued
on Friday, the Supreme Court orderedDonald Trump's former advisor, who has been
challenging convictions over his defiance of subpoenassurrounding the House's January sixth insurrection investigation,
(42:27):
to report to prison by Monday.Hallelujah. The application for release, pending
appeal presented to the Chief Justice andby him referred to the Court is denied.
The order said, so on Monday, Steve Bannon has gone to prison.
(42:51):
And so in spite of an enormousamount of horrible, stupid, no
good, very bad things that havebeen going on, there is there is
a speck of justice in the worldbecause that man deserves to go to prison.
We'll see what happens to Donald Trump'ssentencing on July eleventh. Doesn't not
(43:16):
seem like a small ridiculous thing atthis point in the face of what's going
on with Joe Biden, because DonaldTrump isn't going to prison. When was
the last billionaire that went to prison? It might have been that one guy.
I don't think he was even abillionaire. You know, the Bernard
(43:37):
made off back in two thousand andeight as a result of the financial collapse.
He was a relative small fry otherthan that, and I don't think
he was even a billionaire anyway, wake me up when a billionaire goes to
prison. I'll be very interested. If you want to give us a ring
(44:01):
or send us a text on anyof this to continue the conversation. You
can do that at two zebra twosix five six six' two meter seven

find us. You can do thesame on Twitter, although the handle is

so much for being here, thankyou for listening, and just to reiterate,
Joe has got to go. Untilnext time, enjoy the day,
(44:50):
Please enjoy it.
