Speaker 1 (00:54):
It's one called death crosses the River and began one
morning down the lear grand country of Texas, California, and
I had just delivered some breeding stock to a rancher
near Laredo. We were planning on a few days vacation
in San Antonio, So to say, where are our horses?
We took the stagecoach and tied our horses back of it.
The only other passenger was a nervous, little ball headed man,
(01:14):
a black outpack of suit. He seemed to have no
end for California's conversation. Harpey, a horse is mighty hard
in the seat of your britches, but this flame cracker
box shakes up all over.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Going all the way to Santo.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Stranger, Eh, yeah, I'll bet you're your drummer, ain't you?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
No, your name wouldn't be h Smith, would it. Yeah?
You see, hoppey, he's mister Smith. Oh, shut up, flabby lips.
Where lot serves your ride? But flabby lips, hokey. I say,
this isn't a regular stomp.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
There's a tree across the road.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
It's a hold up.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
You know, all make spish cheese off that box. We
better do as he says. There's a dozen riders out there, hunters.
Keep the driver copboard.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Hello, focker, taking a fit for your health.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Here it is healthy. Here, take it.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
Thanks, I will. Here's something for you, Parker. A little
comment from the boss.

On your behavior.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
And no, no, please, why get dirty mur when you.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Don't do that.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
Yeah, that's right, cut blabber mouth up, or I will
for good. In fact, both of you better forget this
because if you talk, that corpse is going to have company.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
All right, couple yells, well, that goes the coldest killer yet.
And you came mighty close to meeting Gabriel California. Yeah,
I mean my big blabbermouth, uh blabbermouth? Or why that
old down fronk can't call me that? All right, close
mouthed on tire horses. We'll pack Parker's bought it back
(03:14):
to Laredo. Colaredo hobbey, No, we don't want to hear
have no cors for a company here. You heard what
calls shed. We have to turn him that bag of
Parker's California bag. What bag he gave his back to
that killers? No, he made a switch. I saw him
that with my baggy handed kels. His must still be
in the coach. And I have an awful yen to
(03:35):
see what's in it. Yeah, there it is, and I
will open it up. And California, look at this hobby?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Is that real?
Speaker 1 (03:45):
It's real?
Speaker 2 (03:45):
All right?
Speaker 1 (03:46):
We just fell edo about fifty thousand dollars in cash.
Now back to hop Along Cassidy and our story. Death
crosses the River. On the stagecoach from Laredo to San Antonio,
(04:14):
Hoppy in California witness a strange robbery and murder of
a fellow passenger. After Kells the killer has gone, they
find that their bags were switched, and opening that of
the murdered passenger, they discover it filled with money. We
now find Hoppy in California taking the bag and the
body of the man back to Loaredo. Has no wonder
that killer wanted this bag. You sure get a surprise
(04:35):
when he finds all he has is my extra clothes
and taking Parker's body back or show missed the Kels.
He can't scare us here. You want to bag nah California.
You know you wouldn't have let Kells run you out
of the country.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Oh no, just the same.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
It's times like these are wish who wish cowards? I
have a hunchweed live longer. Yeah, we'll get lots of
action when this's nose around that We've dropped off a
little black bag at the sheriff. That's really nice. Hey
took a look at that big wagon of a head.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Hum good gravy. What is it?
Speaker 1 (05:07):
I don't know, but it's got lots of color. Looks
like a sunrise with yellow jaundice. I wonder what a

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Who's bellery?
Speaker 1 (06:04):
I recognize that other? What's Shakespeare?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (06:07):
What a soul in this denighted wilder?
Speaker 3 (06:10):

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Ever, it's the bard Eureka is a millennium.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
No, it ain't either, it's February.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
I can see you don't share your companion's wealth of mind,
my modern Caliban, and your abysmal ignorance is none relieved
by your grizzle the purim. But omit me I am
Montague I'm oblon Caassi and this is my partner California car. Oh,
it's h excuse my curiosity. Which is that a deceased
(06:39):
peasant dangling across your saddle? Old and batted older?
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Why alone?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Whose four?
Speaker 3 (06:46):
I tenderfood? I'll show you who's old and battered?
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Cannot wait a minute? Wha Yeah, the corpse Montague. We're
hoping you wouldn't mind caring it into Loaredo. I suppose courtesy,
demand said, I submit, I detest the defunct company. Put
him here, back of the seat. I can put him
back in a way and ripulo pentagri. Well, please allow
(07:09):
me to decide where I prefer my cargo back to
the seat, if you will, all right, all right, I've
been a soldier, actor, author, chemiston maker of bad doctoral.
I guess it's only faith that I now become the
driver of a hers. How did he reach his deporable condition?
(07:34):
He was murdered. You wouldn't have to know a man
named kel, would you? I would gather you think it's killed.
The sister is shuffling off the mortal coil. That's right,
you know, I'm all quite around. Laredo is well known
as a dangerous man who works for Bramwell's Importing company.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
As a trail ball.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
You've seen to know Laredo around the well as for
favor of learning, distributory of printed wisdom and life killer,
master of the children of this area.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
It is easy to hear up.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Well, thanks Montague, we'll be seeing you in Loretto. Take
my warning, you'll do better to avoid it. My friends.
But what you've told me only trouble of which you're
there a busy little town Loretto. Let's have a talk
(08:29):
with this Bramo first, and the feeling that he should
know about his tray of bosses activities.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Well, we won't have to look car.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
There's at the end of the street, big warehouse with
the shine across the shop Bramwell import in the company.
I smowe it down. Ah, going along. You stand out
here and guard that bag.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Upy, what you're gonna do. We can't stay here in
this whole tale room forever.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
I know the Bramwell Tony Keells a temporary sheriff now
after the regular sheriff and the Texas Ranger killed and
in the way of Loreto across the border. Yeah, that
Parker was his accountant who'd run off with their money,
which Kells return. But why I'm stuck California. I don't
know where to turn. This thing is a mess. Doesn't
(09:32):
make sense.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Let's go to Schanton.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Can't we have fifty thousand dollars? It belongs to someone.
Let's think we know that Parker was Bramwell's accountant. According
to Bramwell, he ran off with money.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Kells chase him, caught him, killed him.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
And returned the money to Bramwell. Only he couldn't have because.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
We have it.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
And then Bramwell lie to you and it looked like it.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
But that's ridiculous. Kells must have reported us as being
passengers and witnesses to Parker's murder. Bramwell must know we
have the money. Why did I lie to us? All
he has to do is claim it. Let's go to
Shamon Toll. Oh, we got company that we want it.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Uh no, Erect, come on in there, open up.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Well, we might as well live like heroes. Yeah, back
up and be quiet. Yeah a gun danged if this
ain't the unfriendliest town, shadow box, what's your business with Bramwell?
(10:36):
What did you do that make kills whole?
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Fired man?
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Why is he on the problem for you. Question one,
we saw Bramwell's accountant, Parker murdered. Question two, we got
something kills overlooked. Same answer for number three. Question from us,
who are you and what do you want? Never mind that,
what do you know about gun run? Gun running? Oh? Now, look,
we just came here to deliver some cows, you know,
(10:59):
with horn and the moon not triggers.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
All right, a word of warning.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Get out of town still before kills fune Well, That
about makes it unanimous. They wish poplars the hoof and mouth.
And one thing for sure, we're in the middle of
no ordinary affair. Gun running is big business. Who I
bet that Keells Maybe, But Bramwell said his boss has
(11:27):
the organization and the wagons and mules that they take
the whole guns.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
You mentioned the sheriff and ranger getting killed in the
wave of rado across the border. Depend the one bet
they were killed over the same affair, Only I can't
figure out. Wait, listen shouting outside works open the window,
Hey you down there? What's all the fuss about?
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Hi?
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Hi? Bramwell's house. Now back to half a long cassidy
and our story. Death crosses the River, Happy in California
(12:18):
have found themselves involved in a strange affair that centers
around gun running, murder, fifty thousand dollars and a man
named Bramwell. It was his accountant that was murdered, and
by Kels, his trail boss. It's also possibly his money,
and now his warehouse has caught fire. From the window
of their hotel room, Happy in California watched this latest development.
(12:39):
They getting it under control. California centered in his office.
Let's use that fire as a cover and slip out
of town.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Now you're talking, We're going to Shane tone.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Now come on.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
Reading Skells and back up his falls a little public
for what I'm.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Going to do.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
I hope you realize that killing us is highly illegal.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
Where's the bag?
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Bag bag, California? You see a bag around?
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Bag bag?
Speaker 5 (13:08):
I still want to be funny in play games.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
I want to try that without a gun. Where's that money?
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Next one will hurt Cassidy. You Carlson, Maybe you better
you on that bed in life, face down.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
All right, I'm a goner, but the chap in Kells.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Not Cassidy. Turn around.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
I'm gonna make you talk.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
The hard way ever heard of a garret. I have
a leather taking string here that makes a good one.
I can make your head swell like a balloon.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Come on, turn around, I.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Said, I think you're the one. I should turn around.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Kells.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
You forgot to close the door, and you got company
right behind you and holding a gun.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
Save those old gags for a chump.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Well hellllujah, thanks Juard. I think mister Kells was about
to be a problem. It's my pleasure and I hope
I cracked your stick. Not Come on, you better get
out of here and fast. I've got horses out back waiting. Wait,
I'll get my bags. That Kells should have looked under
the bed and saved himself a headache. Well when you
(14:21):
wave loloredo, you'll be safe and kills here now.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Then tell me just what is your part in me?
Speaker 1 (14:27):
When you tell us why you can't Tells and saved
our bacon, I can't kills because it's part of my
duty to prevent murder. When I came, I thought, so
thank this ranger as ran on a special retirement from
Washington to stop gun running. Check report reached washing the
guns and large numbers have been smuggled across the border
(14:48):
into the hands of abandoned leader pretending to be a
revolutionist his headquarters just north of Monterey. There's only one
way the guns could have traveled. That's through Loredo. And
you think Tells are taking them across Bramwell's wagon trends.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Here's what we know.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Bramwell sends empty wagons in New Mexico to pick up
consignments of registered imports. These wagons are the only means
but which a large number of guns could travel, and
kills his wagon boars who said strangely good luck and
passing through banded territory safely. You think the bandits don't
attack him because he's working with him. It was rig
We checked Bramwell's wagons from the time they leave his
(15:24):
yard until they're across the border.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
We found that.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Well, oh god, we know who our crook is. But
uh it's try and prove. Uh huh. Oh, by the way,
here's a little something.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
You better take care of this bag.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Yeah, yeah, he's the knacks full of money. We're h
it is full of money. It was Parkers until they
with shots. I thought it was Bramwells, but he squares
of Kells returned his money I'll have to sent a
range of headquarters. They'll find the claimants.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
They're blast of.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
That which I a send the cas is easy. But
now I'm afraid Bramwell's burning of his record indicates his
awareness of our investigations.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
He's probably ready to quit.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
Maybe or maybe that's what we're supposed to believe. What
is the next wagon train to do to leave Brambles
from Mexico tonight? But we won't find any guns in
we we do.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Perhaps you don't check out us the right time.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
I have an idea, and you get Mexican cooperation on
this already have.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
But I can't get the rallies in.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Time to stop that train tonight, or send a man
ask them and meet me here in the way of
Laredo right after dark. We may wind this up tonight.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
That sounds good to me, all right.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Can't do Cassidy? Hey, where does he go going back
across the river at Loredo?
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Back of Cassidy? You're crazy?
Speaker 1 (16:39):
That just rusted you for me, Dad Albert. I have
to ask Bramble a question, Come on, California. He's got
that question to ask.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
We rides right back to Spit of the Devil.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
This Cassidy is amazing.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Well there's the real again.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Ruby.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
You sure you've gotta go over into Laredo.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Has to be done, California. Well look someone's crossing, he.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Told schlick tongue in these books.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Yeah, for a sleepyhead he gets around.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Hi, am Montague.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Well if it is old and depressive, and mister Cassidy
him manage as the rossprings have cospring.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
By the way, here's the books. I think you need.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
Old and faded A present a pressient for me. Yes,
we're thanks Montague, who at the pleasure of ignorance?
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Why yellow down, Mike.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Although it is entirely conceivable that you are correct to
a degree, I resent such imputation from you on the
grounds that you are mentally incompetent and irrelevant and I
sufficient material.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Well, I'll be a knock need front of us.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Heaven you what an intriguing ancestry.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
I can see it's true.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Would you explain how this remarkable genesis without uh happy hoppy?
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Did you give it here such language in your life?
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Why?
Speaker 1 (18:17):
If I thought you were saying what I think, he's same.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
A California calloy.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Put that gun away. No, Mountague, you've done enough in
selling for one afternoon. I'll move along as you wish,
Miss Cassidy. What he is such a remarkably subject for insults? Goodby?
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Why didn't you let me plug in hobby?
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Sir? Just a little make it easy, California. I have
a feeling you may get enough shooting tonight to last year.
Come on, if we're going to get back in time
to meet Stuart, we have to make track, all right,
But dog on it for a nice Umbrey. You've got
the dangers, teach, never know. Hurry till that someone's gonna
shoot at hers.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Then you can't wait. I'll never get.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Old well, Stuart. There's your proof.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Kells and his wagon trains down that ravine loading gun.
I'm seeing it, but I still don't say it. Ten
wagons loading guns? Where'd they come from? How'd you get
across the border? One thing at a time? First, Bramwell
is innocent. He's what all say you are crazy. I'm
looking at his men loading his wagons with smuggled guns. Sure,
(19:29):
but they're not under Bramwell's orders right now. He's had
a nice business, no reason to deal with gun running.
I found out he didn't lie about getting his money
back with Kels, who lied trying to cover up for
Parker's murder. He also started that firing Bramwell's office.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah, they never washed.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
No money stolen from Bramwaller's hall. Parkers stole it from
Kelship was gun running profits.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Bramwell never knowed about.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Kells reported money missing track Parker down, recovered that bag
he thought contained his money, and murdered Parker so he couldn't.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Talk, then kills his to this gun running out right and.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
No Kell's toll. Parker was acting on the order from
a boss. Oh, because if the loading is nearly finished,
we better move in. Here's what the rallies aren't here.
We can't take them alone. We have to want a triahriate. See,
you know, I'm wondering if you shouldn't be wearing the badge.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
All right, deal a hand.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
I mean it's too dark for them to see much
outside of their fires. You take one rim of the ravine,
California take the other. You'll make me a deputy for
about ten minutes. I'll split the middle and arrest them.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Oh, just like that, and you'll walk in on twenty
smugglers and arrest him.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Cassidy.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
They will drop you in your second word. Not if
they think they're surrounded by rangers and rallies.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
That's your jobs.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
When I yell up for proof, give me proof like
what hobby, I don't care yell shoot, do a fandangle.
Make them think the rim of that ravene is lined
with men.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
It might work.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
If they're surprised enough, they may give him before they
notice anything's full. It'll work when they see me walk
in alone, They'll think I'm covered by an army amn e.
If they don't. Good bride, Cassidy, all right, let's try me.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
I'm starting to say some prayers.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Under lay elbrace, get.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
The last viking looming.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Hey us start coming up that last fire you want
to hold in five minutes as soon as the bus comes,
Kel's drop your hands. Stand right where you are, every
one you're surrounded under arrested. Cassidy, you this is impossible. Men,
don't shut up, Kels, I'm gonna drop that gunser Outrea.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
All right, you're you're bluffing, Cassidy.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
You think I dare walk in here unprotected. Captain Carson,
your man ready, the fire ready in a waiting, made
your short your man ready.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Ready and it's true.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
They're in both sides of us and looking down at
you here in the firelife. I want to fight it out.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
No, men, drop your guns, don't fight, don't massacre us.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Drop your gun. That's right.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
I line up.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Hey, one of you men up there, come down, help
me pick up these weapons. I don't think they want
to fight.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
We'll Hoppy.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
That's the last of the guns, Sad and Stewart's back. Hogtime,
the last of the men. I think we're going to
have company, and the leader's coming. It's a wagon coming
around the bend. Hoppy, it's Montake. I know all of them.
Onna Gill, you're under arrest. What on earth is going on?
(22:56):
I'll give you a guess. Your boys got caught. That's all.
In short, the game is finished. Done, my boysticacity, you
fled to my virility, no end, but hardly my intelligence.
You can skip the debate. When there were certain no
large wagon trains crossed the Riar Grand the answer was simple,
one wagon crossing many times. You stocked this casha guns
(23:19):
here for Kells wagons to pick up. Yours was the
only wagon that crossed the river regularly, and without being examined.
Perhaps you hadn't noticed it also filled with books.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
I doubt it now.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
You gave yourself away when you made so many trips
to the way for Laredo. You know when I found
out there isn't but one literate man living there, hardly
a large market for your wear. That is pathetic evidence wasticacity.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
I'll let me look in that wagon. I'm gonna love
putting him in his plate.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Go ahead, I'll get stored botad it down from that
cheat you and the crocoole kick you off the degradation
of being taken by much as you were calling. Yet
there's a token of my acceptance of hate. I have
befoe large book as a final pleasant for you, fold
and SCRABBI yeah, I California for next Cassidy. Don't bother
(24:17):
to draw a no back to hop along Cassidy just
for shooting California. Are you hurt? Bad? I ain't even
(24:41):
scratched happy, But I sure bore that big mouth book

It seems a shame that one so clever as the
great Montague would come to such an end as Death
Crosses the River. That similar is the fate of all
men who stray from the path of justice to the
life of an outlaw. When we meet again, Hoffey tells
the story of an exciting adventure which he calls stagecoach Wes.
So be sure you're listening to the next thrilling episode
