Speaker 1 (00:02):
And now jam In Fringe Man. Welcome everybody to the
Gimmick Infringement Podcast. I am Brad Winchester and with me
as always as my tag team partner Tyler McDowell, Blank
and Tyler. It is Sunday. It is the second Sunday
in November. We are rocketing toward Thanksgiving, toward full gear,
(00:24):
towards Survivors Series, toward just being inundated with Christmas. How
you doing?
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Are you ready? It's already starting? I sure, hope, I'm ready.
I think now. I'm not ready yet. I got it.
I got a lot to do before we are there.
But regardless, I'm grateful. Man, I'm doing well. I'm happy
to see you. I know we have a lot to
discuss in the worlds of professional wrestling and pop culture,
of course, but also just our own lives. It was
a busy week for you, yeah, in Miranda. I know
(00:52):
we'll get to that for gratitude. But how you been tired?
Really tired?
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Yesterday? I woke up at eleven thirty. I went to
bed at midnight for clarity, and really I went to
bed before that because I've fallen asleep in the chair.
I was full old man in it on Friday night,
just passing out, just delirious, trying to watch TV, fight myself,
and I was like, I got out of the chair
and I looked at Jess and Frey and I went,
I'm going to bed. They went, what I went, I'm
(01:17):
going to bed. And I just went to bed. I
just went straight to bed. My phone was almost dead
when I woke up because I forgot to plug it in.
It was just, yeah, it was a mess. It was
a hot mess. And then I slept for eleven and
a half hours, so we're close to It was crazy
because I woke up tired, just exhausted, maybe more tired
(01:38):
than I normally am. And today I'm still tired, but
I'm grateful. I'm tired for good reasons. And I hope,
I think, I don't know, sure, hope it's because of
all the work that I've been putting in and not
for some like disease. I'm about to have to fight
off for the next two months. But we're Yeah, we're
doing good out here, and it's cool and off. It's
getting dark early. I'm starting to get excited for the holidays. Man.
(02:02):
They're cleaning out the playroom to make ready for Santa,
make sure that there's enough space for new toys. That
Barbie playhouse is finally out of my kitchen. It's been
on the wall next to the living room since Sanna
put it there. That's just there has been no room
to put it anywhere else. Yeah, there are three large
(02:23):
sized moving boxes full of fray As toys that she's
going to donate just to clear out space. And now
she has a ton of room in there and it
looks great. And that will last for ten minutes. But
it does look great currently, and it will be a
problem here in the near future. But I'm excited. I'm
excited for the holidays. I'm excited to get this cleaned
up and start decorating and stuff. I even ordered a
(02:46):
couple of gifts last night to get ahead.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Start, oh ahead of the game. I love that trying
to me what's cool is brings me back to our
conversation around Halloween. That you are still able to view
and experience these holidays through the lens of Freyo Winchester.
Your your amazing daughter, right, and the holidays can be
so special, and she's still at that age where it's
(03:08):
just magical. You know, Halloween is still a big deal.
I'm not sure what Frey's thoughts are on Thanksgiving, but
I'm sure she enjoys the actually hates it, to be
honest with you, I think, well, Christmas is Christmases.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, Thanksgiving can kick rocks for Frey, I think because
she's like still the pickiest eater.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
I know.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
There really is more of an adult holiday to really
is more of a you know, if if you're an adult,
that's one where you really.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
She doesn't have cousins her age, so it's difficult she has.
They're either all older just old enough where it's like
not fun for both of them. Maybe fun for one
of them, usually fun for Freya, but maybe not fun
for the older ones, or you know, could be I
don't know. Tristan is an older cousin, but he's in
college and it's not his first year in it, so it's, uh,
(03:59):
there's a big age gap. And now there's Noah. But
literally an infant hasn't hasn't turned one yet. It hasn't
turned I think six months yet, so getting close though.
It's it's just one of those things where I remember
growing up my shout out to Jeff and Chad and
my brother. We would find stuff to do. Jeff and
(04:20):
Brian would usually hang out through something and me and
Chad we go into the back bedroom and turn on
TNT I think maybe it was TBS and go through
the Star Wars marathon they would have on Christmas Eve.
We'd be watching that. We pop out to watch basketball.
Usually everybody else was watching basketball, but I was, you know,
they were in high school, maybe middle school. I was not.
I didn't care about basketball. I didn't want to go
(04:41):
watch a whole game. I wanted to pop in and
out Star Wars on TV. What are we doing here? Later?
I wanted to watch it and we weren't watching it anymore,
So it was It was weird, but it was time
being with those other people. I think is it just
makes it a lot more fun. And Fred doesn't have
that opportunity. So it's definitely around us. Is absolutely an
(05:01):
adult event. But I think if if they come out,
if no one's out here, not gonna be a problem.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
That's beautiful. Well, and speaking of the holidays coming up
and what we're looking forward to, Brad, we put this
out on social at gipod. Nineteen. Stranger Things Season five,
the final season of the highly acclaimed Netflix series is
on the Horizon, episode one, debuting on November twenty sixth.
That episode two is going to be Christmas Eve, a
(05:30):
Christmas Day. No, I think it's part one, Part one.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Excuse excuse, yeah, so we'll have several episodes.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
I excuse me, part okay, very good.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yeah, So they'll do it in three segments of multiple episodes.
So though they is the last time too, they had
part one Part two, they split it so there was
a couple of weeks in between so people had time
to process.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
I thought, I thought I was prepared for this, for
this promotional moment. But Brad Winchester a true Day One
Things fan. Anyway, we are going to be releasing special
episodes discussing reviewing the forthcoming season five of Stranger Things.

(06:33):
Based on the first five minutes that were released recently,
it looks like there is going to be a lot
to discuss.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Part one episodes one through four November twenty six. Part
two episodes five through seven on Christmas Day. The last
episode is on.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
New Year's Near's Eve.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Wow you res Eve? Yeah, so we get one episode
that will be the end of it. It better be
a happy New Year, Tyler. I'm gonna be, I think so.
I worry my way through a ball drop. I'm sure
like part of the last decade dies on the line.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, I worry about Will and really the entire the
entire crew. But we'll see, and we would love to.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Have really worry about Max after after last season, still
get worried about Yea, I'm worried about every every single person.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Dustin's there, Yeah, I' worried about I'm worried about everybody.
But if you really, if you would love to join
us on air again, we would absolutely be honored to
have you. So let us know, hit us up in
the comments, hit us up at Gfpod nineteen because that
is forthcoming. Brad. I want to address one other thing
that makes me very happy right now, and that is
the state. That is the state of Arizona Athletics. You
(07:45):
know how I switch week to week. One week we
celebrate the sun Devils, one week we celebrate the Wildcats.
I know for most of our fan base that may
not make sense, they may not support where I'm at
with this, but I showed love last week with ASU
had This week, We're not only going to show our
support for the Wildcats in fashion here on YouTube, but
we have a segment. I have a hot take. Let's
(08:08):
play the music. We're gonna bear down, We're gonna talk
Arizona Athletics Hot take time.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Here we go, and now it's time for hot take time.
(08:34):
Sportes Brad.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
It's been so long since we've had this segment that
my dad even my dad and said, Yo, when are
we gonna get a new hot take time? Oh no,
I said Dad, I understand.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
I got you.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Stay tuned, and I am ready to deliver that right
now over the weekend homecoming weekend at the University of Arizona,
a place you you know well. Shout out to Winchester
and her amazing workover there. The Arizona Wildcats football team
had an epic twenty four to twenty comeback victory over
(09:09):
the Kansas Jayhawks. Again, this was homecoming weekend, so it
was at Arizona Stadium. During the game, it dawned on
me that it's been ten years since I graduated from college, which.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
I'm I'm still I'm almost at twenty. My friend, yeah more.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
I don't know how I feel about that, but I
realized as I'm watching Goa Fafida and Company, I realized, oh,
twenty twenty five, twenty fifteen, Wow, Wow, that was a
long time ago. So hot take here head coach. Arizona
head coach Brent Brennan is the guy. He is the
man to lead this program. You may recall Brad Winchester,
I was very critical about Bret Brennan last year. It
(09:48):
was not a great season. The Cats went four and
eight last season. There were so many moments of what
seemed to be sheer incompetence, and many were calling for
Brent Brennan's job after year, they're six and three now
and with this win they clinched a bowl game. Brent
Brennan brought the intensity. He is bringing competence to the
(10:12):
sidelines every day, which you couldn't every week I should say,
which we couldn't say last season. I love yeah, yeah, exactly.
I love the enthusiasm, I love the growth and the
improvement we've seen. And I can't be wrong. I was wrong.
Brent Brennan is the guy, at least for now. I
feel very good about him leading this football program, not
(10:32):
just this year, but I'm excited about the potential upward
trajectory heading into his Dare I say a third year
next year if he gets that opportunity. The fact that
he survived yere one and was brought back, I have
no doubt that he's going to be brought back for
a year three. I think anyone in the fan base
calling for his job now is just totally misguided. Brent
Brennan is the guy and the connection I want to
(10:53):
make to us here before I kick it to you.
Brem brennan situation. Not that everything has to tie back
to education on this PODCAS, but his situation here at
Arizona reminds me so much of teaching, especially your early
years of teaching. Sometimes you just have to give someone
the time and the grace to figure it out right.
(11:13):
Brent Brendan's year one and granted he was the head
coach at San Jose Stay prior, but his year one
as a Wildcat reminded me so much of the early
years of teaching, that there are just days where you
are a hot mess and you are working to become
competent and working to become great, but sometimes you just
got to figure it out, and then you come back
for that second year, and clearly everything is better because
(11:35):
you learned. You pick yourself up off the canvas or
the turf or the carpet in the scenario, and here
you are today, a better version of who you were
twelve months ago. I'm all in for Brent Brendan right now,
very happy for the Wildcats. And how has it been
ten years since I graduated from that place. I have
no idea bear down.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
What's wild during that time, that ten year time ago,
there was somebody else that got time to stay there,
and that was one Rich Rodriguys. After leaving Michigan, I
say leaving as though he got a choice.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
In that current head coach of West Virginia, current.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Head coach of West Virginia. He uh, it was such
a fascinating thing because it was like, we'll let him
get his guys in there, and then Brady took over
and it was not good because he was winning with
with rich Rod guys. But rich rodri guys did a
good job of setting up things. But then like he
tried to change the entire culture of Michigan, which was
(12:31):
never gonna work. Like it just that speed offense doesn't
work when it's five degrees outside, it just doesn't. You're
played in a giant bowl that holds the cold in it,
it's just not gonna work. I really thought he'd have
a better tenure in Arizona, but they give him plenty
of time, and it just never really you know, it
wasn't like it wasn't terrible. It wasn't the worst thing ever.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
No, those games were fun. I was at some of
those games, fifty one to forty six, but.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
I but I watched them. One of the first games
I saw there after moving back was them losing to
Stanford and they were not a good football team at
the time. And yeah, I knew the writing was on
the wall. I was like, already know. Everybody was like, no,
they're gonna be great, already, always gonna be amazing. Michigan
screwed it up. And I was like, I promise you
give it three years and you're gonna find out the
fourth like you're gonna find out eventually, and you're gonna go, oh,
(13:21):
another's scandals and other's this, and yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
And let's not Yeah. Yeah, that was yeah, that was
that was the thing, and let's not have it go
on set. But especially for those who are not in
Tucson or who have not been to Arizona, the University
of Arizona, as much as we want the football team
to do well, it's a basketball school. It's a basketball
city through and through, and at least we always have
Arizona basketball, which by the way, they look phenomenal. Freshman
(13:44):
CoA Pete from Perry High School down the road, not
down the road, but in Gilbert, Arizona. He put up
a thirty piece against Rainy champs Florida and they got
The Cats got a big win in Laws. I believe
it was in Las Vegas. So it's I think we're
up right now as Wildcat fans. We got basketball. It's
always tucked in the back pocket. I just didn't expect
(14:04):
football to turn around so quickly. Kudos to Brent Brennan.
He's doing his thing.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Yeah, that's awesome. I saw a part of the press
conference the other day and was like, oh, that this
dude was telling people to come out to the game.
I think it was to come out to the homecoming
and he was just like, Yeah, come out, it's gonna
be fun. This team is really good. You're gonna be
disappointed if you don't show up. And I had no
plans on going, but I would say if I was
(14:29):
debating it, I would have been disappointed I didn't show up. Likewise,
thoughts man.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I thought to as I was sort of reflecting on
my entire life, in my entire last ten years, I thought, wait,
I didn't even realize it was homecoming weekend, did I?
I guess I just missed all the emails in my inbox.
But this would have been a great game to go
to eighty degrees Sonny's Tucson. We could have seen you. Well,
we'll make we will make you, we will make up.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Yes, yeah it was. It was absolutely beautiful, like and
it's been so nice. Guys. Listen, I I can't even
explain to anybody. You can't we can't really put into
words what late October and November are like in Arizona.
This is the time of the year that everybody that
lives here goes, ah, this is why we live here,
(15:13):
every single person. We all say it at some point,
we're like, ah, isn't it great? This is why we
live here. Right now, walk outside in a T shirt
going seventy degrees it's a little chilli aup. What anywhere
else that's like shorts weather flip flops. We're out here
going like, oh, another perfect day, cloudless, blue skies, a
(15:34):
gentle breeze, not too hot, not too cold, just perfect.
It's this is the Goldilocks of the year. It's it's
so good, it's just right. I love it out here.
But I know what else is just right? And that
is the most important two words in gi stuff.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah, seamless, seamless as always right. We got to start
our wrestling conversation by discussing the latest and great in
the world of Stephanie bakaer. Okay, So there was tag
action on Monday Night Raw. As we know, the new
friendship with Nicki Bella is in full effect now. Vakarin
Bella lost to Roxane Perez and ra cal Rodriguez after
(16:12):
a cheap shot followed by pop rocks on Bella. Fortunately,
we still receive great Instagram content, including backstage photos from
Bella and Vadkare you know. I'm here for this team,
but I worry that this side quest that Steph is
on might be taking away from what I hoped would
be a great title reign for La Primera. Granted, the
(16:33):
title rain just started, but I think to have this
side quest so early in her reign is I'm not
gonna say it's a mistake yet because I still foresee
or I suspect that Bella is going to turn on
Vacquair and that's going to be a title program. But
I want Stephanie Bacaer defending that title. I want a feud.
I want a rivalry to happen sooner than later. I
(16:54):
think we can do both. I think we can walk
in chew gum at the same time. Can we can
have the friendship with Nikki Bella and and post the
glorious photos on ig We'll always like them and repost them.
But we can also have Steph building toward a Legit
challenger and a Legitate program. Speaking of Instagram, buck Heir
was the guest of honor at a New York Rangers
game over the weekend. So this is the year of
(17:16):
Stephanie Bacaer and we love that for her and we
love that for us.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Hard to argue, Yeah, but I'm with you. I know
it's not your question. I also worry that this is
going to be one of those things where they go like, hey,
we got this other thing to do right now, you're
gonna be a champ. You're gonna hold the belt, You're
never gonna do anything with it, but you're gonna beat
the champ. So that's so, that's good. It's all I.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Got, Fridchip. Yeah, I know we're not going to go
directly into the program. Yeah, there you go. I know
we're not going to go directly into the rear Ripley program.
To me, that has wrestledmania written all over it. But
what are we giving Steph before then, especially being a
new talent on the main roster. How do we capitalize
on her moment? Man, Tim, I think WW really has
(18:02):
to figure that out over the coming weeks. Again, I
suspect the move is going to be Niki versus Steph,
But I just I just have questions before we get there.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Yeah, And it's interesting because I have thoughts that are
part of my question. Attendance has been down. I think
viewership has been down, and they're they're they're doing smaller arenas,
smaller venues, and not terribly far off from what AW
has been doing. You know, they had a six thousand
(18:33):
seed arena, but they did a small market thing. They've
been doing small markets, but when they do small markets,
it's typically when they're down. And I think I can't
tell you what the biggest draw is right now in WWE,
I don't know. It's probably why they were like CM
punk champ. That makes the most sense. J Cargill Champ
(18:56):
makes a lot of sense as a draw. I think
people are like, oh cool, Jake Cargill's champ. Those are
gonna be fun matches. I don't know that people are
showing up to see just Jade Cargill squash someone. You know,
we're hearing her promos, we're seeing punk. It's the unpredictability
of seeing punk that that's a that's a big reason
(19:19):
to stay. And then you have John seen his retirement tour,
and if he's not on the car, they just haven't
been doing like crazy numbers or anything. The easiest fix
here is get Stephanie involved in something meaningful and put
her at the front of the company and people people
show up for Stephanie backaert my god.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Yeah, she's been one of the most over acts in
the company all year. I just don't want I don't
want the friendship side quest to cool her off. Yeah,
and I worry that maybe that's where we're headed if
she's in the tag team versus defending her title week
in and week out. And we see that across other
champions in w WE, certainly in AW where it's like
no focus on the title you have versus versus the
(19:58):
side quest.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
We Yeah, you're gonna if you're gonna spend all your
time talking about how that's a bad program and bad
formula and stuff, why are you doing it? Do something
else like it, somebody do something different instead of doing
the same thing that clearly isn't.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Working right right exactly. Well, that is a great lead
into my question for you. As a matter of fact,
as you mentioned, Brad, creatively, the product is cooled, I
would say rather noticeably in WWE you mentioned ticket sales,
smaller arenas or more intimate arenas, if you will.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Yes, that leads me here.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Yeah, yeah, I'm glad they they were at a hockey
stadium stadium about five thousand or so. I heard great
things about that event, and we want people to do well.
Chelsea Green is killing it, Johnsen is farewell towards nearing
its conclusion, and we may just get that dominant Jade
Car Gill title reign that we forecasted on last week's episode.
(20:51):
My question for you, which superstar or storyline in WWE
are you most invested in right now?
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Ms to come back pretty much. I don't have I
don't have a lot, Like I guess the one is
the one that I'm gonna ask you about here in
a second, so my answer can also transition into my
question if you wanted to be going to it four years,
(21:23):
it's gonna be Cody and Alistair.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Like that's that's the one, because I've been wanting to
see it for the longest time. Anything with Alistair black
having to do with the title, Yeah, I'm I'm in.
It's not Drew losing to Cody. That story has been
told more often than not constantly. It's not see him
punk being champ and uh letting everybody know that he
(21:47):
came back and did this for the fans and for
the people them over. It's it's been two years. Let's
just move on. And here Logan Logan Paul with the
brask A knuckles and.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Does with oh maybe it's Logan Paul and see him
Punk teaming up to take on the Vision.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
No. I like that less, I don't. I'm not intrigued,
but I know some of the fields were like, oh wow,
like we can possibly No, No, you get the Vision bad.
He's a bad guy. That's very clearly Like is that
not clearly a setup for war games? Like, I feel
like that we're setting up on the corner yet, right,
So I just feel like that's that's what's happening is
(22:29):
let's get those factions together, Punks in trouble. How do
we keep them from having a title match? Let's put
him in some stupid faction feud forever. I just they
feel bereft of ideas right now that feel fresh. And
I'm not saying like any of the talented anything wrong.
They're doing the best, but it's like heat somebody else up.
(22:50):
Make it interesting that I'm so uninvested in this Vision thing.
I'm invested in seeing what happens with seth Rawlins. When
he comes back, we're gonna wait like nine months for that,
So I don't I don't care. The vision without seth
Rollins is boring. Give me Brown on his own, give
(23:10):
me Bronson Red on his own. I don't like them
together right now. I just I just don't care. It's
it sucks because like I want to see I want
to see bron breaker by Champ, like his championship run,
his first one is gonna be a lot of fun,
and he can do it as a heel. That's fine.
But out of that, I just I'm just bored. There's
nothing that's exciting right now to me. Nothing's really intriguing
(23:32):
to me. Cody versus Alistair Black is as close as
I think it's gonna get. And then the hope that
some people will return. Whenever I see the talent out
on on on I screen, out in the ring is
what I was trying to do there. Whenever I see them,
I'm excited, Like Sammy's Ain's wrestling awesome, this is gonna
be fun, But like, what's Sammy doing that's meaningful? What's Chins?
(23:57):
Kate Knackamer are doing it? But all Alistair Black is
finally doing something meaningful. Drew keeps losing. I don't know
what he's supposed to do. Is he come back with
a vengeance and beat up Cody again or does he
find a new victim or does he go to a
different show, Like I feel like they're they're nuking Drew
right now, and I don't understand why to keep him
(24:17):
in the title picture but never win. What do you
do with him after this? Like, I don't. I don't
understand what the what the drive is? Does he go?
I have to stay home and I have to soul
search figure out who I am, and then make a
babyface save later on and finally turn him back. I don't.
I don't know because I'm also not that interested. I
think it'd be fun, but like his promos this way
are fun, they're just all the same because he's doing
(24:40):
the same thing. I'm not invested in any of them.
So my final answer is I'm not invested in anything
except Alistair Black and Cody. So that's an easy answer
for me.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
It's a good one, and it's it's a prospect that
you've spoken of on the podcast weeks ago, if not
many times over.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
The last speak I brought it out two weeks ago
when you asked pretty yeah. Yeah, Well the production team
I was like, I are we gonna are we gonna
run it back with Cody. We're gonna do that. Aw
I helped all of that.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
So you enjoyed the brief program we had of these
two guys in aa W and how cool would it
be to run it back in w W. You said
this on the podcast, Yes, and here we are where
that is? That is a move, that's a reality. Yeah,
it's a great pick by you, Brad A second a
lot of what you said. However, I'll go to NXT.
I'm really intrigued by Kailanie Jordan as a heel champion.
(25:31):
So in case our audience has missed out on this,
for Kalanie Jordan is the TNA Knockouts Champion. Really odd
situation how we got here in the last month. But
on the next Brandon nx per star ostensibly but is
carrying the knockouts champion. She was doing this as a
(25:51):
babyface for the past several weeks, but now she's fully
leaned in to this heel persona. So I'm really invested
in now only Kailannie being a top champion in this
case for TNA, which again is kind of nonsensical, but
glad she has this opportunity. She certainly worked for it
and earned it. But her leaning into a full on
heel character. We've had shades of her being gray in
(26:15):
the past, but it's never really been fully solidified that
she's someone we should boo. But here we are now.
She could have promoed NXT last week, and I hope
that she gets some time with this this TNA Championship.
She defeated Indy Hartwell at balt for Glory, which I
thought was a great decision to make. And I just
think Kailanie Jordan as a heel has legs and I
hope that she's given the time and again, kind of
(26:38):
like what we're speaking about with Stephanie Backer, she's given
the stories and the rivals to really see this through.
I'm really high on Killannie Jordan. I think this heel
run could unlock some new parts of her game that
again we haven't seen yet.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
Yeah, it could be fun. The Internet has told me
it's really good. We also haven't had seen a tech
so I feel I feel like I'm I can't say
anything about it. I'm not really watching.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Oh okay, okay, two things before we leave this one.
You you did anyone catch my man who so smoothly
used bereft minutes ago, just just off the dome, just
we'd never addressed that that was exceptional U. Number two,
I don't blame you, Brad, because TNA, they come off
Bound for Glory what they would say is their most
(27:24):
successful paper view I ever record number of tickets, like
almost eight thousand people I believe attended that show in Lowell, Massachusetts.
You had Mike Santana finally win, and then we haven't
had new in ring content in weeks. The two weeks
following Bound for Glory they put out kind of behind
the scenes Fade the Black after the Glory specials, and
then this past week they released an open Fight Night
(27:47):
show where there were these matches put together, which I
haven't done my full research on on when those matches occurred,
Like the Hardys were there. You had Mike Santana versus
Cedric Alexander, which I'm sure was great. I have to
check that out. But you haven't had a live show
now in nearly a month for TNA. When you came
off your biggest pay per view to date. So your
(28:10):
point is not lost on me that I don't know that.
I think it's been one of the more underreported stories.
What's TNA doing right now? You want to continue to
build this momentum, Mike Santana's champ Kline, Jordan is Champ.
You got Leon Slater, who I've told you should be
the face of TNA for at least going on a year,
and you just don't have fresh content. So for a
company that's gotten a lot of things right in twenty
(28:31):
twenty five, I'm curious business wise to see what's next.
I know they're going to be running full sale and
they're going to have one of those premium live events
on the TNA Plus app later this month. But just
a really, really strange month for TNA coming off incredible success.
So I wonder what happened there. Seems like they kind
of fumbled it.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
It's weird, man, it's weird. I don't really understand that.
The whole arrangement they have, the separation of brands feeling
rohaw to me more were except with weird pauses in
the middle. Like I don't I don't get it. I
hate I hate the crossover stuff when it doesn't make sense.
I love it when it does, but it's starting to
give Like late nineties, mid nineties a A or not
(29:12):
a w NWA in WWE stuff, when they had like
the was it the was it the Midnight Express I
think were the the heel Champions fighting tag teams for
the ww or WWF at the time, and Corney was
out there with his tennis rackets doing promos and stuff,
(29:34):
and it was just a different time. And it's starting
to feel a little bit like that, where it's like,
I don't really understand what's happening here. I think it's
cool to do like champions from other promotions, but it's
I don't know, it's it bloated and confusing, not good,
especially when TNA is just sort of like, we got
these great promo packages coming up here on this episode. Yeah,
(29:55):
it's that's exactly.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
That's exactly what it was now here for that content,
but that that's that should go on YouTube, that should
be maybe fifteen twenty minutes. But to run that as
to run that in replacement of your weekly Impact coming
off this insanely hot period for your product just seemed
I wonder what the backstory is behind that I would
be shocked if that has been the plan all these
(30:16):
weeks and months. I wonder just business wise, maybe what
went south there, because it just seemed like a really
curious decision if you're trying to build that fan base
and it's gonna especially for these new champs. You have
Mike Santana finally climbing the mountain and getting the w
Leon Slater, Kalinie Jordan.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
They tape a lot, and they say that they have
a ton of tape stuff that they do all at
once and knock it all out right, and they're just
taping right now.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
And perhaps the answer for Carlos Silva, TNA President and
company is maybe they have landed that TV deal that's
been speculated since all the way back in the summer.
Maybe they have landed that TV deal and that is
in the works. You know, maybe there's an announcement before
we hit the holidays. But if there's not, I just
again questions about what the what are we doing for
(31:03):
your fans there? We can only see Hardy compound matches
so many times. TNA also ran that on the tn
A plus that but a very Halloween Hardy's a very
Hardy Halloween it's like, yeah, I know, I've been rocking
with TNA. I've seen this before. Where's your new content?
I want to see Colonie Jordan.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
I'm looking at it right now. And according to you know, Ai,
there is no TV deal other than like the deal
with the WWE, outside of an agreement with Claro Sports
in Mexico and Latin America. So there's a TV dale
a TV deal down.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
I saw that.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
I saw it. Yeah, yeah, so maybe that's maybe that's
what they're referring to because somebody who.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Revenue always working on the business, I guess.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Yeah, yeah, and you have somebody with the last name
of Santana being a representative like that's that feels like
it makes a ton of sense. So I don't know, Tyler.
My question is I already brought it up. I said,
I don't care about anything other than this. This is
what I have in my notes. I don't care about
anything other than this. Will wwe have Alistair blackby incredible threat.
(32:05):
Yeah obviously he's a threat, m H. But it is
the incredible credible Yeah not in our minds right right?
Speaker 2 (32:17):
No?
Speaker 3 (32:18):
No?
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Will this be fun?
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (32:20):
Will Alistair Black gain some cachet from it. I sure
hope so, But will he be incredible threats? No, that
doesn't mean it still won't be fun and we can't
invest in and have fun conversations on the podcast about it.
But if Drew McIntyre was an a credible threat based
on how We's position and written in WWE, I don't
know that Alistair Black will be. However, what does give
(32:43):
me pause, what does give me hope is that this
is a new version of Alistair Black with in WWE.
Finally he's aligned with Zelena Vega, his his wife in
real life, and this could be a new presentation. This
is a new presentation for him, So that gives me
hope that this is something new and still very mysterious
and very spooky credible. Though, do I think he has
(33:05):
any shot of beating Cody?
Speaker 3 (33:08):
No, I do not.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
I think that he can have one if they build
them up as like just he needs to bring up
and address previous history, including a w history like I
really believe that. I think, Uh, because wasn't wasn't his
feud with Alistair Black the reason that arm did the
glock promo? I believe so, yes, right, because Alistair got
(33:31):
in his head and made him want to quit. He
put his boots in the right and stuff because he
and yeah, the black the black mass, Right, wasn't it
a black mass? Yeah, black mass, Yes, and like caught
him pretty flush. I know it wasn't like with the
heel he like basically slapped his face off with at
the bottom of his foot. But it's gotta suck. Taking
(33:55):
that's gotta suck because that dude is pinpoint accurate, like
legit marshal. Yeah, he's incredible. Like that's why I'm like
a credible threat real life. Yeah, probably like one piece
half the half the people in the locker room, but
like as a character, I don't know. And they could
just be like the last time we fought, you put
(34:16):
your boots in the ring and tried to walk away,
and it took an old man to convince you to
come back by putting a fake gun to your head
like something like that acknowledged that it happened. I'm in
I now think I am now going like all right,
this is I'm invested.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Now.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
I think he's got a shot. He's already in his head.
Bring arn back out, have him like have to show
him like backstage going like Cody, this was dropped off
at my house. I thought we were done with this
and it's a letter from from Malachi Black, Like I'd
be all in for that, Like, I think that would
be really cool. Do I think it'll happen. No, w
W doesn't acknowledge things that happen in other companies. Sometimes
(34:55):
the talent you but I don't think they, you know,
purposefully write it into storyline. Maybe maybe we get lucky
there and they're like, yeah, let's just acknowledge it, because
sometimes it's okay and sometimes it's not okay. I personally
think the more that there's crossover between all of them
and them just acknowledging that they exist, or even just
going like, yeah, we want to win, we want them
(35:16):
to lose, pretty simple moving forward. But I also think
that they don't believe that the company believes it. I'm
sure because like no competition, better revenue, but like for
the for the talent, more competition, better revenue, same thing,
but the other direction. Right, So I'm hopeful that it
(35:36):
will happen and they could probably make them a credible threat.
I just don't think they will because they're just Cody's
great and my concern right now and the only reason
I would say maybe he's got a shot, and I
don't believe this for a second, but maybe he's got
a shot is two Babyface champions and the men's World Championships.
(35:58):
I just see one of them being a heel champ,
especially heading into Survivor Series. But Cody versus Punk if
they decide to do like a Champ first champ thing,
which seems like that's a Crown Jewel gimmick, and I
don't know, I would love to see that. We'll see.
I don't know, man, But what do you do with
Alistair Black If he has that chet that program with Cody,
(36:22):
loses it and then goes off back into the mist.
Now we're right back where we started with him, and
it's it's just unless somebody intervenes to cost him the
match and then give him another line of programming, which won't.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Happen a La Damian priest or.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Well maybe, but I could see Drew McIntyre coming in
and kicking Cody in the face, claymore Jones costing Malachi
the match. I could see that happening, and then we
get a triple threat because they can't not have Drew
lose to somebody but if that happens, Drew's gonna be
the new champ and he's gonna pin Malachi Black and
then Cody loses the championship title without losing.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Yeah, right, I It just seems so much more realistic
to me that Drew McIntire would be the next champion
before Aleister Blast, which I don't which I don't know
that I have an issue with at all. But we've
reached the stage in Cody Rhodes as champ for me
very similar to when Roman Rains had his historic run.
I'm already thinking of who is the right person to
(37:25):
dethrone Cody, and I don't know that they're much like
with Roman reigns for a long time. I don't know
that there is a clear answer right now. I just
don't see any of the viable options being the person
they're gonna run with. Because whoever beats Cody, that's going
to be a massive deal, and creatively, I would like
that actually to happen sooner than later. I just don't
(37:45):
know whether it's Drew, whether it's Alistair named someone else
until we get to Obafemi, because Obafemi will be the guy.
I mean, Bronn Broun Breaker certainly, whether he's going for
c I'm Punk or Cody bron is an option. I'll
get opa Femi whenever he returns. I think he should.
I don't know that he will be. I think he
should him.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
And there's like there's guys that he's got, yeah, right, yeah, yeah,
I think uh oh, I don't even put that on there.
One of the other potential questions is gonna ask us
about Jay us and and uh and that Saturday Night's
main event match. There's a lot of speculation on there
(38:27):
about him maybe not going into the match with his
full faculties and not enough speculation about it's four thousand
feet in the air. And I think Jay was just gassed, Like.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
He's this is not a video game. These are real people.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Yeah, and and he's struggled with that in the past
with his in ring shape, like we watched. That's not
me just throwing out accusations. I believe they addressed it
on the Netflix document. They did, so him going in
there being gassed doesn't surprise me. When it's you know,
two thousand feet higher. Will you wrestle in New York?
(39:04):
You know what the elevation is in New York.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
I don't off the top of my head, but I
should forget me.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
I believe it's three feet above sea level. It's basically
sea level. It's zero. And then you go up to
I think there was Salt Lake for this one. You
go to Salt Lake and it's four thousand, four hundred something.
It's two thousand feet taller than Tucson and two thousands
up there. So yeah, the air is a little thinner
(39:30):
up there. It's nearly a mile high city and you
know a couple you know what, eight hundred nine hundred feet.
I can't remember where it was four thousand and what,
but I just think he was gassed and people were
throwing around some crazy stuff. So I wonder if Jay
was the move, and maybe if they're worried about his conditioning,
(39:51):
they might pivot from that if he doesn't look like
he'll be reliable in the ring. I hope. I hope not,
because like I've actually really enjoyed, you know, the last
four years of Jay you so have been awesome, So
that evolution of that character has been really fun to watch.
But I don't know that there's any credible current. I
don't know what you do. I don't know, man. I
(40:13):
just I hope they figure it out. For Malachi Black,
I wrote Alistair Black in there because of habit uh,
and I just or Malachi Black as a habit like
instead of Alistair Black and keeps saying Malachi like, I
can't get it straight. I wish you would have been
like Alistair Glint Green or something, or Malachi Brown something
something to help me out, mister, mister Black feels problematic.
(40:36):
I just I don't want to do this. I quit.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
That's it, hope, hopefully not before gratitude. We got gratitude.
Right now, we're gonna totally flip flip the box here.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
I think we got something.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
Hope.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
I hope so too.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
Oh I have I have plenty to be grateful for.
So you know what, let's get into it. Hit the music,
and now it's time for a little self reflection. So
I think about yourselves or something, Tyler. This week it
was a grind. I told you about all the all
(41:13):
the ups and downs and sideways moments in production for
two plays. We did two plays, and I can't remember
the name of the author. You can check out the
Randa Theater Instagram page to see what the poster says,
because I don't remember it. But we had two different authors,
two different one act plays written for high schools, both
modern and very current, about forty five minutes apiece, with
(41:35):
an intermission in between. One of them was Edgar, a
story about a girl in high school who is sort
of trying to live a normal life as normal as
she can, who is dying and she's I believe, dying
of cancer but there's nothing they can do, and she's
just trying to live her life as she can, and
(41:57):
she befriends this this boy in the theater, and it
turns out the boy in the theater has been the
theater ghost the entire time, and at the end you
find out that they're together, but neither of them are alive.
So it's like a bittersweet kind of ending to the show.
And then we did a comedy after that, so we
(42:19):
went from like it's a lot of serious themes here
people were laughing, and it was like this isn't funny, man, Like,
if they're laughing at this moment, it's because, okay, all right.
The second show was pure comedy. It was just all
it was. It takes place in a there's a production
of Hadestown happening, but it's not Hadestown. It's like in Hadestown,
(42:41):
and this girl writes this play about this boy who
just happens to have the exact same name and address
of her ex who she doesn't like, and the whole
thing is a cluster. And then it's like, oh, the
theater is haunted and we have the ghosts are making
us get along instead of arguing. And then the crew
comes out. It's like, turns out you can get people
to do whatever you want just by turning some lights
(43:02):
on and off. They were pretended to be the ghosts
the whole time. It's really cute. It was a fun show.
A lot of laughs went off really well. The kids
did so much work. I'm so grateful for them. Man,
I'm grateful to be done. Tyler. I cannot express to
you how much work goes into these things. To paint
(43:23):
the flats, just the scenes, the background took over a
month of work. I think getting an hour or two
every day of just painting, just painting these people, the ideas,
the generation of the ideas, the planning, the prep, the
getting things out, finding materials, cleaning brushes, putting away these things, storage, building,
(43:44):
the jacks for the flats, building a scrim stage screen,
figuring out how to mount a scrim, all of these
different things sound and then sound breaking, completely breaking, no
main speakers again, just like when we did the musical
last year. Very frustrating, and the kids going like, don't worry,
we'll figure it out. They can project, it'll be great.
(44:05):
It was so cool to watch all of this come together.
And I'm just so grateful for the dedication the kids
put in, but I'm more grateful to the community and
to pivoting. So we know that snap benefits have been
something that just kind of went on hiatus, and there's
(44:25):
a lot of people that are relying now on the
kindness of others. Was the kindness of strangers that would
Blanche says in streetcar. There is the Marana Food Bank,
and the Maranda Food Bank is they can only go
so far. They rely on donations and private funding and
all of those things, but they can only hand out
(44:46):
a couple of loaves of bread to a family before
they don't have any more bread. They have to ration
it off to make sure people are getting food. So
I talked to Missus Davis, Jennifer Davis, who is the
director of all of our theater program, and we decided
to do cam food donations and monetary donations to help
needy families in the community. So I have a whole
(45:08):
bunch of cam food that I have to drop off
at the food bank this week, and we got a
ton of donations that will go help support more directly
our families from our school around the holidays, so like
the Adopter Kid and stuff like that, to help them have,
you know, a nice holiday season and to make sure
(45:28):
that they're getting what they need. I didn't know what
I would expect, but to have like hundreds of people
show up for I don't know how many we had,
but to three hundred people showed up for a class
play that our two one act plays that nobody's ever
heard of, is pretty remarkable. And we had people just
(45:49):
going like, oh, this goes to families. Here's here's twenty bucks,
here's fifty bucks, and just putting it in the account
so we can go directly to Morihanna families. I cannot
I got shills right now, Like I can't express how
how grateful I am that people would just go like, oh, yeah,
this isn't for the theater program. And we support this.
We're just here to have fun and support the kids.
But like, this money is going to actually go and
(46:10):
help people. Man, that was so cool, and I'm just
so grateful for it.
Speaker 2 (46:14):
I get chills hearing you share that. I mean, it's
you know, what a privilege it is that we're very
much on the front lines of the seeing how these
decisions or our lack of decisions from Washington and our
local you know, government officials, is affecting people in real time.
And we know of many kids and families who are
(46:37):
really struggling with this and struggling within food and security.
And like you said, Brad, society, a healthy society only
works on the backs of kindness and looking out for
your neighbor, right. I think that's that's always true three
sixty five days of the year, but especially now with
this government shutdown, the fact that you had folks only
(46:59):
come out to support the amazing art that your students created,
but also giving back to the community and to the
food bank. Man, Like, none of this works without sometimes
putting others before yourself. And I just think about the
kids and the families that you and I get to serve,
who are really struggling right now. You can't learn if
(47:21):
you're hungry periodically, right And for some kids maybe the
only reliable food they get practice in lunch at school.
And I was so blessed for all my life, I
always knew dinner was going to be on the table.
I always knew if I got hungry, food was there.
I always knew I could bring snacks to school if
I'm really struggling with math or with English. But for
(47:41):
a lot of our kids, oh my gosh, man, like
now more than ever, food nutrition is not a guarantee.
So not only do I love hearing that art is
still on and popping at Morana High School, but for
this particular set of shows, you all had that element
of giving back at you know, right in time, kind
(48:01):
of a prelude for the holidays. That's just that's incredible. Man.
Salute emojis to you, the kids, the entire MHS community.
That is that's special. The power of art.
Speaker 1 (48:12):
Yeah, and I've been talking you know, you just brought
it up. I've been talking to the kids about you know,
like lunch, lots of kids don't want that apple they
get on their tray and you find them like smashed
on the ground or thrown somewhere.
Speaker 2 (48:23):
Yeah, I mean I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna throw
it at my buddy, Yeah exactly. And it's like ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (48:29):
You know.
Speaker 1 (48:30):
I wonder what we could do there where if we
could have a collection bin where people like, I don't
want my apple, okay, cool, give me the apples someone
wants that. Somebody might be hungry after school or I'm
the way home. Take as money easy you need for
the family. Just yeah, So trying to figure that out
what's legal, you know, because we work at help School,
it's like, I mean, yeah, you.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Want to follow the legal process ideally if yeah, well.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
You know, it's like that whole thing that was like
I got this whole tray of food I'm not gonna
eat or I can go without, or it's leftovers or
whatever it might be. There's somebody that's hungry and homeless.
I can't just give that to them, and it's I
mean I can, but like now it's a legal issue.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
I just saw on the front page. I just saw
on the front page of the Arizona Republic today the
lead story is homelessness in Phoenix and there's a photo
and I haven't read the article yet. We're recording on
on Sunday morning here, but it's it's just everywhere, man,
whether our audience is here in Arizona, with US, Southern Arizona,
the Valley, northern Arizona, other states, it's just it's everywhere,
(49:33):
and it's it's just, you know, not only is it heartbreaking,
but it's a reminder of to me the importance of
gratitude and then also in our own way, even though
it may feel small, doing what we can to give back.
That's that's so important. And I'll tell you this, this
is not meant to be a this is not meant
to be a flex It's just top of mind. I
don't believe. I mean, you're seven now, right, teaching at
(49:55):
Sunday Slip High School. Some may say my six previous
years teaching, I don't know that I faith faithfully kept
snacks in my classroom really, but for whatever reason, this year,
I've made it a point to keep snacks so when
kids come by, I always have a snack available. And
I've noticed this year more than ever, Brad, kids will
(50:16):
ask during the school day if I have food. So
I just got a delivery earlier today of Welsh's fruit
snacks and chewy bars, because it's just it's just those
are the ones. Yeah, it's just top of mine and
you and I both through this. Every teacher I've ever
known does this. We don't receive funds to supplement our
classroom snack inventory. We do this because we just you
(50:40):
and I already are given so much and have so
much that we just it's a privilege to be able
to give back in any way that we can. But
my goodness, man, people are struggling right now. And I mean,
just last thing I'll say about this before we get
back perhaps to wrestling talk something far less important, but
something we enjoy. We live in the wealthiest nation in
(51:04):
the world, and yet the reality is so many people
go to bed hungry every night, or go to bed
without a roof over their head every single night. And
whatever we can do to help each other, it's so important.
I feel grateful, full circle. I feel grateful that we
are in a professional role where we get to give
(51:25):
back in our own way day in and day out.
And clearly, as evidenced by the Marana Theater Department, you
all are doing amazing work and looking out for your neighbor.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
That's what this is all for, sure, trying to sure,
trying to now we're not as hard off as you
know Portland. Now that all of their stores are closed
and boarded up and there are no windows on any
of them. Just shocking and terrible fate.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
God.
Speaker 1 (51:51):
I hope anybody listening understands that's that's just an exaggeration
and I'm poking fun at one of the dumbest comments
I've ever heard in my life from a person in power. Tyler,
we got to get into another powerful company and that's
Ae w Ae Wuh certainly has been on with some
(52:13):
really interesting storylines heading into Full Gear and Blood and Guts.
For the most part, I have I have some feelings
and I'm trying to be measured as we segue into
our AAW questions. So go ahead and hit me with yours.
Speaker 2 (52:30):
Okay, So we teased this last week AW, Blood and
Guts is finally now this Wednesday, big show, unique show
that this has got to go well for a W
I am optimistic jones for this. I like you have
feelings and I have questions about the build to Full Gear.
I'm still not completely satisfied, but which is coming up
(52:52):
on Sara.
Speaker 1 (52:54):
Yeah, yeah, there you go, But.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
We'll stick with the hero now aw Blood and Guts.
Last week we discussed those two matches, and I'm sure
we'll have that conversation as part of this segment. But
I specifically want to return to our conversation about the
Women's Tag Title Tournament. And something shocking happened on Dynamite
last week, and.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
In a good way.
Speaker 2 (53:16):
Will O Knight and Galen Harley Cameron defeated Mercedes Monet
and Athena. I was not prepared for that. I did
not see that coming whatsoever. So my question for you
is regarding the victors, the team that advanced in the
Women's Tag Title Tournament. It's gonna be a different question
for you. Got to keep you on your toes. Brad
(53:36):
Winchester the Tag title tournament? Why not the babes of wrath?
Why not go all the way with this tag team?
Are we looking at the new favorites to win it all?
Will O Knight and Galen Harley Cameron.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
I hope, so, I hope so like if we're here now, yes,
that's I too, was surprised. Yeah, if Harley's ever got
a whole title, let's get a title. This would be on.
I think it's gonna be a tag title, and we
always be perfect gold for Willow, Babes of rast great
(54:10):
tag name. Yeah, and Harley has a great look. She
is so much better that just like a year or
two ago, right, like, so much better, incredibly entertaining character.
She has an amazing look. She's beautiful, she's hilarious, she's
multi talented. It's crazy. Of course I want to see
her on screen, but also you throw her in there
(54:32):
with somebody that's like an unstoppable ten year veteran of
the game, and and I get a little worried that
someone's gonna get broken in half or something if they
if they try something else maybe that hasn't been attempted before.
And so far it's just been fun. It's been awesome,
and she's great. She's I had a lot of doubts,
(54:54):
and I'm sitting here going like, yeah, I think it
was dumb. I think it's the perfect place for her.
I think this would be great, honestly, like God's on
a screen. Of course, we want Willow to hold all
the gold, but Harley, Yes, I think that would be
a ton of fun. Those two together are so much
fun because they have different kinds of energy. But if
anybody is going to match that Willow energy, it's gonna
(55:15):
be Harley Cameron.
Speaker 3 (55:17):
Facts.
Speaker 2 (55:17):
The reality could be Athena. I don't know that Athena
needs to cost Harley and Willow, but the move could
be Hardly gets to challenge since Harley pinned will Okay,
let's try this again, say two, it's Harley pinned Athena
in this match. The move could be Harley Cameron challenges
(55:38):
Athena at the next Roah pay per view. I could
easily see that being. Okay, what's the sort of what
does Harley Cameron get out of this tag tadle run?
It's the one on one match, which I suspect she
would lose to Athena at I once. Hey, maybe final
Battle is coming up or Death Before No, it can't
be Death before Dishonored. Anyway, there's a show coming up.
I saw the advertisement for an rwage pay per view.
(56:00):
I could see that being the move there, rather than
Harley and Willow becoming the inaugural tag team champions. But
this week really convinced me that I would love to
see Harley and Willow become champs. As much as anyone
you know. Last week I was on here saying I'm
here for the Julia Hard and sky Blue agenda. I
still am Megan Bain and Marina Shaffer should be unstoppable
(56:22):
in storyline. Of course, we also have Tony Storm and Marina. Marina,
Tony Storm and Mina Shirakawa probably the odds on favorites
to win it all. But my goodness, this week just
showed me I would not only be cool with this,
but I would love Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale sustained
run as a tag team, especially with gold.
Speaker 1 (56:42):
Final battle is December fifth. At least that's final Battle,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
That's coming up needs a challenger for Athena needs a
challenger for that show hardly, Cameron.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
If it's I can't tell, I don't I don't know,
I don't know. If it's being taped and we'll air
somewhere else. Might imagine it's live because I saw December
fifteenth pop up on there too, so what do I know?
But December fifth, early December is the next ROH pape
according to the ROH Events page, is the only thing
(57:12):
on there was that event, So aw okay, Tyler hook
tapped out, Hook tapped out to the ops. There were
advantage matches for Blood and Gods. Tyler, you already kind
of answered this question, but I'm gonna roll into it anyway.
Does AW TV feel like it's building a good television
(57:33):
program or just working toward event or pay per view lineups.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
I'm tempted to go for the latter, but it's really
hit or miss AW week to week for television. There
have been really fantastic shows this year. Fantastic I was
just about to say when we get into our year
end conversation here in a few weeks, the renaissance of
(58:01):
Collision is going to be a top storyline for me.
On the AW side of things, Collision has been much better.
But as a fan of AAW we're closing out the
year creatively. For me, that is not exactly firing on
all cylinders. I'm leaning toward the ladder, toward the build
to full gear. Where I'm at as a fan is
(58:22):
just figuring out, Okay, are some of these storylines just
not serving me? Or is it just not good? Samojo
versus saying, man, I love both of the guys in
this I just sti't have an interest in seeing that
match being run back again at the next pay per view.
We have the Hurt Syndicate and the demand, we have
(58:44):
the introduction of this national championship. I don't know that
we need another championship in aw let alone. On the
men's side of things, I don't know that I need
the demand and the Hurt Syndicate continuing to be Love
all six men in this, love them dearly, but we
can move on creatively. So my answer to you would
be the build is toward the pay per view, which
(59:04):
that's what all wrestling companies should do, should they not. However,
there was a really strong stretch of Dynamite episodes and
Collision episodes, so much so that the way I gauge
at Brad is how do I feel going into a
Wednesday night or a Saturday night? Do I need to
see the show or is it optional for me? And
lately it's been the lad or it hasn't been all
(59:26):
I have to watch this live. It's can't miss for me,
which is how I felt earlier in the year, as
recently as late summer. But lately this creative stretch maybe
kind of mirroring WWE, It just it hasn't been. It
hasn't been as strong as you know earlier in this year,
as recently as Q three in both companies. But they
are building a full gear, there's no doubt about that.
(59:48):
Some of the storylines just are ones that I am
not invested in.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
Well, it's tough. It's tough because there's a lot of good,
Like to your point, there's a lot of good in
ring action. There's a lot of good oh, storyline movement
and promo work. And I think because I don't know
AW is a little bit looser in terms of production,
that I have more fun watching it because of its
(01:00:15):
unpredictability with especially with commentary. I just like I have
fun with it. I don't want to hear people glitch
in the middle of their sentence. It's not like I
look forward to it, but I always love listening to Excalibur,
who I think is being told stuff in his earpiece
and just forgets where he is where he's like, I
think there's there's a lot going Yeah, just hear it
(01:00:38):
kind of happened, and then tazzle this thrown Oh yeah,
beg Jones and like it'll just be nuts. I'll be like, yeah,
well said that, like, just I love that the gimmick balcony.
I brought up last week at school because I was
trying to talk. I can't have people coming out here
like Taz trying to explain the parts of a theater
in my in my program and somebody went, what are
you talking about? And I had to explain it. I
(01:01:01):
can't be like, yeah, it's up on the gimmick balcony
over there, and I need to go the catwalk like
it's on the catwalk, so funny stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Miscas my answer is on miscast and he contributes to
my enjoyment of yeah, yeh, yeah, me too, me too.
Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
But but I think they're they're doing a bit of both.
I can't The reason I asked the question is I
couldn't figure it out. I'm genuinely asking which one is
It help because they're building towards the pay per view,
but like, I don't like the build They're buildings toward
blood and Guts at the same time as full gear,
and it doesn't feel like they're building a reason for
me to care about next week other than blood and guts.
(01:01:39):
Like it's not only blood and guts, but blood and
guts is the draw what about after blood and guts,
and when we do blood and guts this close to
I gotta stop saying blood and guts, My god, when
we get this close to that event or that event's
that close to a pay per view, I feel like
we're just like spamming people with important things that might
(01:02:01):
also make me not care about the other stuff. Where
if you do it in an area with you know,
of the calendar that's got less traffic, maybe I care
a little bit more about those things that aren't going
to be on those carts because it's like, oh, that
match is coming up. That's really cool, because you know,
like during this tournament, we've had some teams in it
we're just in general, we've had teams or individuals that
(01:02:22):
are like who are these people? And they get you know,
pinned right away and then get your hot dog and
your five bucks. We'll see you later, And I don't
know who these people are. And it was just like,
all right, that's a thing that happened to drive the
story forward. But I kind of feel like it could
have been an email and we could have had that
be another spot. It could have been like, well, they
defeated these people at the live house show that we did,
(01:02:44):
but they stopped doing live events like that. There's no
tapings anymore for like Dark and Dark Elevation. We just
have Akin of Honor, and I don't want to pay
for that. Theycause just don't no shade to Ring of
Honor because they they the pay per views seem like
they're worth it. But I'm not spending that much money
on a paper view for Ring of Honor and ten
dollars a month when I'm already paying so much for
(01:03:04):
everything else. It's like, I don't know, but maybe that's
where my WWE money goes, because I think I'm kind
of done. I'm still paying right now, and I'm just like,
I don't know that I want to spend any more money,
So we'll see. I just I want the television product
to make sense. I want a reason to tune in
weekly that's not just to find out what will be
on then the other thing. But don't take it away.
(01:03:28):
I am excited for Blood of Guts. I do you
think legitimately it's going to be a lot of fun.
It always is, as long as there's no uncomfortable stuck
in the ring moments or Eddie's injured on the roof
moments or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
I think we'll have a good time exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
No map Minard levels of blood please? Oh god, that
was that wass? Yes, I forgot about yeaes Well, we.
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
Can continue to hope for good things with our television, Brad,
and we're going to stay there for one final segment
on this episode. We have one more episode. Regardless of
what you may have heard me say about last week's GI,
we actually have one more episode of The Golden Bachelor,
So that means we have at least one more segment
of a rose from me. Let's play the music.
Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
And now for a rose from GI's most eligible Bachelor.
Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
Okay, Brad, we have some tea, we have some drama
to discuss in just the moment. I just want to
stand ten toes down on my prediction. The finale for
mel Owens' season. I can't confirm is this Wednesday, and
I still think Peg is going to be the choice.
You could make a yeah, you could make a case
for Cindy, but I think it's gonna be Peg. Option
(01:04:50):
B would be that that's redundant. Option B is Mel
does not leave with anyone, Brad. I mean no disrespect
to your to your Michigan Wolverine. Here, Mel's a total dud.
This Mel has been an awful pick.
Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
For a lead.
Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
I mean gold, He matches the charisma of what I
think people think of of Michigan.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
Indeed, indeed can confirm on on this this part one
of the finale, the Fantasy Sweet City, just the dud
when the women are asking him to put out more
emotionally and really for him to let them know how
they're feeling, if he's really down, if he's ready to
make this commitment. He's just been very non committed and
(01:05:31):
been very vague with his language really all season. And
I I'm still scratching my head as why he was
the best choice to be the lead. But I'm gonna
go Peg for this finale. That is my prediction. Let
us know what you all think here on the comments
on YouTube. Let us know why g I pod nineteen
across socials. Let us know the case for Cindy, if
you're rocking with Cindy or if you agree with us
(01:05:52):
with PEG or option C, which is a very real
possibility that Mel leaves alone. Speaking of people who are alone,
I was gonna say, man, Gary and Theresa, Okay, this
is what our segment is going to be dedicated to.
I did not realize this. Gary Turner the original lead.
Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
What are we doing.
Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
The original lead? Season one of the Golden Batcher? Do
you want a series or not? Gary Turner? We have
litigated his story on this podcast many times. We want
you to know in case you haven't heard, he has
a memoir and he is in full media tour mode.
He writes extensively about his relationship with Teresa and what
(01:06:36):
went wrong. Brad, you and I were looking at this
article from people referencing the aforementioned memoir and is letting
us know of all the essentially says that's.
Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
Ladies and chat comen. We had some traffic issue here
with the internets up in the valley, and it didn't
happen until we started talking about Gary Turner. This is
always a Gary Turner problem. I blame Gary for everything.
Restaurant tour, Gary Turner with his burger stand. You are
the reason. You are the reason that the Internet failed. Tyler,
(01:07:24):
how dare you get away in another rose.
Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
Worthless?
Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
It's an absolutely it's a flower.
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
Yeah, it's an absolute shame. It's it's it's a travesty.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
I am not.
Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
You know what, I'm gonna give my rose to Teresa
for this one, because in his new memoir, Gary Turner
is revealing is revealing all brad. He is throwing some
major shada Teresa. She's throwing it right back. You and I,
before we came onto the podcast, were discussing this People
magazine article detailing Gary's memoir, and Gary writes of one instance.
(01:08:06):
It's in which he says Teresa made him sleep on
the couch. He actually told Entertainment Weekly my first night,
she took out sheets and pillows before telling me, quote,
tomorrow's a big dang, a big workday. I need a
good night's sleep. Do you mind sleeping on the sofa?
And Turner alleged that he continued to sleep on the
couch and eventually the arrangement made him quote a little bitter.
(01:08:28):
There's even this Dear Shandy podcast run by a free
performer bachelor bachelorette couple, in which Teresa claimed that they
shared her full sized bed the first night of that trip.
This is boring. I'm not gonna get into all the details.
They are throwing shade at each other. The inaugural Golden
Batched couple a complete disintegration. It makes me sad, Brad,
(01:08:48):
It makes me very sad, and I have little to
no hope that this next Golden Bachelor couple is going
to be any different. I feel lied to. This is
a travesty. What the franchise is already to me into
our Joni chockstill together? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:09:03):
I hope so you know, oh man, I forgot about
those too. Listen, man, I I think I was thinking
about this, like, if you are old enough to go
on the Golden Bachelor, first of all, right, like your
qualifying age for mel it would be thirty. If you
are old enough to go on the Golden Bachelor and
(01:09:23):
you loudly and publicly make mistakes and you take out
your partner and your partner takes out you, and all
these ugly secrets are revealed, how are you ever dating again?
If that thing goes south? Like your entire relationship is
just out there like that. You are terrible at this,
That love not really for you. That's so crazy. All
(01:09:45):
the tears, all the poor me and all the oh man,
the love of my life died, and it just I'm
so sad, and you're like, oh man, I really feel
for this guy lost the love of his life, and
then you find out he's a bit of an a hole,
not really a bit of an a hole, just an
a hole. I just what do you do after that?
What do you do if you're Teresa, Like, I don't know,
(01:10:09):
I wouldn't want to be dating and then find out
like in the news again, like oh more came out
about this. While you're in a date. You go home
and you're like, oh, former Golden Bachelor start out at
French diner with new Bow, and like I get to
see it now, Like, oh god, I just I can't
even imagine being at that age and then having to
(01:10:31):
deal with that kind of high school drama seems terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
And on that Dear Chancy podcast, Teresa throws the shade
back at Gary and she mentions, during one of their dates,
we think they were outside somewhere. I'm doing a great
job explaining this. Clearly they were outside somewhere and they
were still in this courting stage, and Gary was like, hey,
you know, you see that I'm paraphrasing. You know, you
see that tree over there, That's where I'm going to
(01:10:56):
bury your body. Like he alluded to murders and how
he was going to over it up and apparently with
Teresa made it clear she wasn't really going with the joke,
but Gary was continuing it and really kind of said
it with a straight face. So it's a classic, he said.
She said, it's giving high school relationship gone bad. So
(01:11:17):
much of the aura of what Golden Batch was presented
to be was that we were gonna leave this to
the other Batch and Bachelor Red seasons, relationships can end
on Golden Batch. We never assumed it was gonna last forever.
But the shade being thrown both ways. Of course we're
team Teresa here. This has been documented, but the shade
(01:11:38):
going both ways, and now the memoir, the tell All
book and making the media tour in the case of
Gary and Teresa firing back. I just don't know that
anyone wants this, and I I just it's fun to
talk about, Brad, but it just it's just a sign
of how far we've fallen. You and I were locked
(01:11:59):
into Golden Bags season one, we've been got Jess on
it and since then it has just been in a
full spiral mode. It's unfortunate, but we are still team
Teresa here. Gary Turner tell All book now in stores.
Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
Joan has been working on a project, and it was
Chock saying, hintint, she's working on a project. So I
have a feeling we'll be seeing Joan on her screen soon.
And they're doing the long distance thing as they navigate
the relationship by seeing each other once a week, and
they're not in a rush to get married. But it
(01:12:36):
sounds like they're still together, so that's pretty cool. And
it sounds like they're doing it in a way that
isn't Hey, we got married right away, let's move in together. No,
like it's crazy. I accepted your proposal, but let's let's
actually get to know each other in a real normal
situation and then go from there. That makes so much
more sense to me. It sounds like they're doing it
the adult, mature way and not the dumb yes Gary
(01:12:58):
and Teresa way. I was gonna say.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
It appears to be. It's given the inverse of what
the questionary tale of Gary Turner and Teresa Knits unfortunately became,
and Gary says in the tell All book isn't throw
all shade at Teresa. He does say he was leaning
toward picking Leslie until Fantasy Suites, until overnights. He said,
once he spent a night with Teresa, everything changed. He unlocked, Well,
(01:13:23):
that's gonna sound creepy. He unlocked a new version of Teresa.
That's not exactly what he said, but basically like Teresa
shared things and I guess yeah, yeah I did.
Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
We can just get do your thing.
Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
He he He says the overnights changed everything, and he
went from leaning toward Leslie toward picking Teresa. I don't
know that we need any of this, but what does
it mean for the franchise? Nothing positive?
Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
In my opinion.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
I take away from this is that I was right
about Leslie. That's it. I should have been Leslie. I
was right. I should have wanted to throw that out there. Yeah,
and uh, I'm glad it wasn't for Leslie's sake.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
Yeah, Leslie is probably somewhere doing yoga reading.
Speaker 1 (01:14:08):
He's probably going like, oh boy, thank god I missed
that bullet.
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
She probably has multiple suitors, I bet.
Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
Yeah, yeah, what was she's up to now? Because she
had like a like a branch right, a farm, a
bunch of property, rode horses and stuff. She's probably just
hanging out somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
I think that may have been faith. I think that
may have been she was top three. Yeah, Leslie was
the fitness.
Speaker 1 (01:14:31):
With the fitness yoga person.
Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Yeah yeah, yeah, Jewish woman yeah yea, yea yeah yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:14:36):
There were your face. I just mixed up where they were.
Speaker 2 (01:14:38):
Oh no, there were great contestants on school too.
Speaker 1 (01:14:41):
Yeah. Season one that was fun, man Like, thank you
for making me go through memory lane and remember all
the good people that were on that show. Uh good?
Until it was who knew? Who knew that with all
the heel potential heels that were in the women's division
in the first season of The Golden Bachelor, it would
end up being the Golden batchelor as the heel, the
(01:15:02):
biggest heel of them all. An absolute surprise. It was
me all along. Austin Tyler. What did we miss?
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
I have two notes for what we missed. First, Outcast
one of the greatest hip hop duos of all time.
They have officially been inducted into the Rock and Roll Holiday.
Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
That's awesome. Yeah yeah, I'm sure it was met with
totally normal fanfare from the rock and enthusiasts.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
I'm sure it was. I have many memories listening to
their music over the years, and just a huge nod
for the Atlanta duo and then secondly, quick political note.
Election Day in America was last Tuesday. You may have
heard of a guy named Zoron Mamdani. He is the
Democratic Socialist candidate is officially the mayor elect of New
(01:15:49):
York City. There are also big governors races around the country,
notably in New Jersey and Virginia, in which the Democratic
candidate won two women. In fact, and Virginia, it is
the first time that they have had a woman elected
as governor, so really interesting to see. We know how
this works, Brad, the pendulum, the swings politically from Republican
(01:16:11):
to Democrat that we see when we go from presidential
election to state and local offices and those races. So
it's definitely gonna be something to track as we inch
closer and closer to twenty twenty eight and we think
about what the presidential field will look like on both
sides of the wild, It's going to be wild and
(01:16:31):
shout out to form a multi time guest and dear
friend of the show, Mike's Steph, check out his podcast,
Salty Thoughts of Mike' Stepp Podcast, in which he discusses
politics specifically in New York in great detail, including the
mayor race. We can't wait to see what his thoughts
are on the results from Tuesday's election.
Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
What do we miss bred that last sentence mostly but
we'll garble through it. You turned into Digiti, But check
out Mike Steph and his thoughts on New Yro politics.
On the Sealtic thoughts of Mike Steph and yeah, shout
out to Mike. I haven't talked to Mike in a while.
I need to reach out to Mike, so I wrote
(01:17:13):
down a couple of things of keeping it political. I
did not expect in the Year of Our Lord twenty
twenty five for Tom Horn to have a babyface turn.
I did not expect it because we have a giant
teacher shortage in Arizona, and Tom Horn's like, yeah, we
got a giant teacher shortage in Arizona. It's a problem,
(01:17:34):
and we need to start firing money off at these
teachers because they're all quitting because they can make more
money doing other stuff and we're not attracting anybody to
the profession. I don't know that that will really work
until the underlying funding issues are addressed, because it's not
really the teacher pay. I heard the average teacher pay
in Arizona sixty three thousand. Tyler, how do you feel
(01:17:56):
about your sixty three thousand a year? I have never made, okay,
that amount anybody that I don't know anybody that's making
that amount.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
Not based I'm not ready to say full farce, but
every time I see that number, I just I just
chuckle to myself. I think, I think seeing that amount, I.
Speaker 1 (01:18:14):
Think they have to look at certified contracts and not
and not teacher contracts, so that includes assistant principles and
whatnot to so throw those in there. Of course, it's
going to be way higher. We're twenty ninth apparently in
the country in average teacher salary, which that's unbelievable to
me that we would be in the middle of the
pack because I don't know anybody making that much money.
(01:18:37):
I'm close after overrides and all kinds of other stuff.
But that's with a master's degree, nineteen years of experience
with another master's on top of that, plus a bunch
of other credits, plus a bunch of yeah, iron mine.
I'm not even going to sit here and be like, yeah,
I didn't make I can't believe it making Yeah, ironed it.
I put in the work. I just I saw these
(01:18:59):
interviews and I was like, it's really cool to see
kind of both sides of the aisle now how we
get there and what that means in the classroom, that's
where I disagree with him, but to see him and
the AEA working together to go like, yeah, we got
to do something. This is a big problem and it's
not a political thing. It's like it's just a problem.
It doesn't matter politically. We need teachers or kids aren't
(01:19:20):
going to learn. So I thought that was really cool
and kind of maybe hopeful for the future. It felt
like politics twenty five years ago, where it was like, no,
we just disagree on stuff. We're trying to figure it out,
but like, we just disagree on stuff. And then finally
Arizona Marching Band Association three A five A Championships. I
believe it happened at Hamilton, but I know Hamilton took
(01:19:42):
first place, and Miranda High School, who hasn't placed in
I don't know how long, it took sixth place in
the state. So shout out to the entire marching band
and to first year Miranda High School Marching band instructor
Hobby Agilar. He is a breath of fresh air into
(01:20:03):
that competition program. He took over for Jim Addabury, who
is a staple and institution, the pillar of professionalism, who
was just sort of like, yeah, I don't really know
that I have the energy for this anymore. It's time
to pass it on to somebody I trust. Knocked it
out of the park. You know, Transitions are difficult, and
(01:20:25):
this one felt like a really good one. And I'm
just really proud of everybody that's been involved over the
last twenty years of my career, watching this marching band
grow and flourish and do competitions. We're doing really cool
things there. Proud of them. Anytime you could see a
competition that bears fruit to go from not placing to
(01:20:45):
sixth in the state, that's incredible, man Like, that's really incredible.
And it is not the first time they placed this year.
They have taken seconds and thirds and fourths and all
kinds of placements along the way. They're killing it over there,
and just proud to support them. Really cool.
