Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Logit Side Hustles podcast. I'm your host Miles,
and today I'm really excited to bring you today's episode
about five easy side hustles for bloggers, and a good
side hustle for bloggers has some unique qualities. So first
of all, it's an additional revenue stream. Second of all,
(00:22):
it promotes your blog. Third of all, it builds your
brand presence and authority. Fourth of all, it's easy to
start in. Fifth, he usually has a writing element because
bloggers are good at writing. In FYI, I don't mention
newsletters here because I consider them part of the typical
bloggers ecosystem already, and I don't look at them as
(00:42):
a side hustle. I look at them as an extraordinary
marketing tool for your blog. Also know that throughout the episode,
I'll be mentioning a lot of really neat resources and
tools and content creators, so make sure that you check
all those out or check out the show notes for
links to a lot of these tools. Now let's dive
into the side hustle. The first side house I want
(01:05):
to talk about for bloggers is writing on Medium. Medium's
a content platform where readers have to pay five dollars
a month to use it, and this money is distributed
to writers on the platform through the Medium Partner program.
Medium is meant for storytelling and sharing actionable advice for
personal growth. Readers don't mind paying the five dollar fee
(01:25):
because of its ad free user experience. One of my
favorite examples of a blogger who uses Medium is Victoria Kurrichenko.
She owns the website self Made Millennials, where she provides
SEO services, resources and tips, and she promotes her blog
on Medium by sharing stories about her life and experiences
(01:48):
as an independent SEO consultant, and we use her website
into the conversation during the process. So overall, Medium is
an effortless, even fun way to promote your blog, even
if you just write once a week. It's also a
great way to make money with affiliate marketing, digital products,
and online services, so definitely check out Medium. Number two
(02:12):
is I list number two starting a podcast, which is
arguably the easiest side hustle for bloggers. It can be
a money printing machine and it's a great way to
send traffic back to your website. Podcasting is also an
exceptional way to build trust with your audience. They listen
to your podcast while they do chores, drive and relax
with a cup of coffee. This can make you feel
(02:32):
like a friend to your listener, which is one of
the best ways to acquire a true fan. And you
don't even need to do an interview podcast. You can
just start a podcast by yourself and eventually find a
way to incorporate your community of listeners. The easiest way
to start a solo podcast is simple. One find a
podcast host. I recommend Spreaker, but pop Being is great
(02:56):
as well. Two download the Speaker app on your phone
or tablet. Three name your podcast. Four use your existing
blog content for podcast episode ideas. Five record a few episode. Six.
If you like making podcast content, sign up for a
paid plan. Seven make a habit of podcasting eight profit.
A great example of a podcast that accompanies a blog
(03:17):
is Nick Wilfer's Side Hustle show podcast. Nick publishes his
episodes impairs each one with a blog post that acts
as show notes. This way, he gets website traffic from
his podcast and podcast traffic from his website. It's a
beautiful cycle. Now let's talk about the third side hustle,
writing a book. It's a book. A book is the
(03:42):
ultimate business card for your blog. Writing a book positions
you as an authority in your niche. It also allows
you to attract more website traffic from bookmarketplaces like Amazon, Barnes, Noble,
and gum Road and platforms like Drafts Digital and Canva
make the book publishing and creation processes so easy nowadays.
(04:03):
If you want to reduce the overwhelm of writing a
book and take action, follow JR. Heimbinier's book writing guides
and Challenges and listen to the podcast self Publishing with
Dale if you want to learn about the best tool
systems and resources for authors, and here's a pro tip,
compile a bunch of blog posts to create a book.
(04:23):
I learned about this simple strategy from Jamie Northrop, known
as the minimalist hustler. The fourth side hustle idea is
to sell a course, and a course is one of
the best passive, high ticket products that you can sell
as a blogger. They're pretty easy to create and they
don't need to be super long or complicated. Just think
(04:45):
of it like writing a blog post or a book,
but with video modules. However, you can also use written
content in your course, which plays into your strengths as
a writer and a blogger. Now let's talk about creating
and marketing your course. We'll start by looking at two
popular course marketplaces. One is skill Share. Skill Share is
(05:06):
an online course membership platform and they call their courses classes.
A skill Share class only needs to be a minimum
of ten minutes long, which makes it super easy to
get started on skill Share as soon as possible. So
put together a quick A to Z skill Share class
that delivers lots of value and a short amount of time,
and you'll be off to the races. Second is You
(05:30):
to Me. It's the most popular course marketplace for premium courses.
Your You to Me course needs to be a minimum
of thirty minutes long, and they have relatively high video
quality standards. This is truly one of the best platforms
for getting exposure to your blog and courses. They have
hundreds of millions of users and they're very good at
(05:52):
marketing their course creators. They also have lots of built
in tools to help you validate your course idea and
promote your course to your audience. I could spend another
twenty minutes talking about You to Me, but I recommend
you just check it out. Now let's talk about some
self hosted options. These are options outside of course marketplaces
(06:13):
that you can create by yourself. Some of these are
also considered learning management systems or community platforms, and here
are some of the best ones. Teachable, pay Hip, Patreon, Circle,
think Ific, Podia, Kejabi, gum Road. You'll have to do
a little bit of research to decide which platform to use.
(06:35):
I honestly recommend Payhip because it's affordable and super easy
to figure out how to use it. And last, you
can create your course on word Press, and some plugins
worth checking out for course creators on WordPress are sure Kart,
Presto Player, and learn Dash. Now let's talk about our
(06:56):
fifth and last side hustle for bloggers, which is writing
on social media platforms like x and Facebook will actually
pay you simply for posting content. You have to sign
up for their revenue sharing programs for creators, but once
you're in, it is as easy as making a daily post.
Just write something or post a photo and you can
(07:16):
make money. Honestly blows my mind that this exists as
a side hustle nowadays, so look into it. Now. Let's
recap the five side hustle ideas for bloggers. One right
on Medium, two start a podcast, three, write a book, four,
sell a course, five right on social media. These are fun,
additional revenue streams that work well alongside your skills, content
(07:40):
and community as a blogger. Thank you so much for
