Bollato da subito come trattatello di pseudoscienza, quando non testo pericolosissimo, ha superato i confini geografici e temporali della Francia degli anni Sessanta per diventare presto un libro di culto fra gli studiosi dell'occultismo e della magia, ma anche della spiritualità e dell'esoterismo.
