Speaker 1 (00:00):
Glory, Good morning. How you doing.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
I'm doing well. Happy new year. Hey.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Lots of things happening with the new year, and of
course the Commissioner's always busy. And I guess the best
thing for you, guys is, what about a week ago
you were able to put the budget to bed at least.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Right, Well, we passed it now and now the fund begins.
Can you monitor and make sure that what's coming in
and projected is there and what's going out is going
out in the right places. But yeah, the hurdle of
passing it, the culmination of the fall, of meeting with everybody,
work with everybody and preparing that. But again, as I

(00:36):
say every time, because we have a great team that
makes that process easy.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yeah. And the budget, I guess, for all intentsive purposes
of pretty flat from what you did in twenty four
to what's planned for twenty five. Is that right?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Pretty flat? There are some increases in there, undoubtedly, know,
but but holding the holding the line, so to speak.
You know, things cost more. We know that everywhere you go.
So I hit the grocery this weekend. You know, I'm
sure your bill was same as mine, a little higher,
you know, for the sheriff to do the great work
that he does, you know, protecting us and all the

(01:16):
elect officials. There is a cost to that and the
cost of cruisers is more expensive today than it was yesterday.
So again that's the process of the budgeting and ensuring
that the offices have what they need to do the
great work they do. And it just goes back to
the team that we do have.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Commissiter Corey noon and with us here in studio are
weekly Allen County segment. So budget is a set and
now you turn your attention to other things that are
maybe a little more exciting and a big event coming
up today the groundbreaking for the new county building.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Right exciting, you know, the thinking about it, you know,
all morning, because we're gonna have some folks out there
and do that. And it's a combination of really about
a decade worth of preparation and it came down to,
you know, really needing to do something with our older structures.
And there's no structure that's more of a pinnacle of

(02:14):
the county government than our courthouse. So you know, to
get everybody out of the courthouse to be able to
do that. This is the first step in doing that
and to have that ability to construct this building to
put county offices in there is a major, major hurdle
and it's not something you know, three commissioners. You come

(02:35):
into office and you have all these ideas of what
you want to do, balancing the budget, working with the
elected officials, you know, building a structure. You know, this
is not something that I think is on everybody's to
do list. So it does take you surround yourself with
folks with experts to help you with this. And again
it goes to the elected officials, but also to the

(02:55):
design group and you know, the construction folks that we have,
and even the visionaries of the City of Lima. You know,
there were folks that helped see the vision. You know,
that corner, the structure that was there, that building served
a great purpose. Many of us bought clothes and what

(03:16):
not from there, but you know, that served its time.
And now we're going to put a new structure up there.
There's going to be a generational structure that's going to
serve the county and it's exciting.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
And of course for folks who may wonder about the
new County administration building, this wasn't just so all the
county employees could have nice new offices and fancy surroundings.
This is very much utilitarian in nature, right, just the
nature of the age of the courthouse and the way
county businesses changed. This should simplify things for the public

(03:54):
that has to interact with various county offices for many
different reasons. Right.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
You think about the courthouse, it was built in the
late eighteen hundred's, county government's changed over time bit and
we've crammed as much into that that building as we can.
And yeah, it needs some love. That that building needs
some love. And you can't you can't. You can't start
restoring or renovating or doing anything that you want to
do floor by floor number one is going to interrupt

(04:22):
county business number two. You know, pipe chases and wires
and everything there. Boys, it needs to be fully, fully gutted.
So yeah, we the public, the county residents deserve a
building that's conducive to doing the business that they need
to do. So that that is one of the objectives

(04:43):
of the of the new administrative building. Providing county elected
officials and their staff with office space that's conducive to
conducting that business is also a major a major goal
with that, and then again ultimately being able to renovate
the courthouse and bring all the courts into that structure
will be will be a big win for Allen County.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Yeah, I think ultimately the courts will be much more
efficient and easier for people to interact with if they're
all in the courthouse, as it would be most convenient.
So the groundbreaking is today, So that's kind of day
one for the rest of the project. Your timeline has
I think been holding pretty steady. When do we look

(05:27):
to have actual occupancy here?

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Right? Yeah, So I can't wait for it to get
out of the ground, right once it gets out of
the ground, you know, the uncertainty of what's there. I
think once it gets out of the ground, you know,
then then you know, obviously we'll see what we'll be
seeing the building and whatnot. But you know, we have
faith in the timeline that the design folks and Charles
and their contractors are are working on, and you know,

(05:53):
we're looking you know what early mid I think twenty six,
you know, somewhere somewhere in there. But again, you know,
we have to have it completed by the end of
twenty six, So that's kind of been internally are you know,
we have to have it done by then because of
some of the dollars that we're using, the stipulations with that.
But all things are proceeding. Like you said, we've been

(06:16):
designing this thing and working on this thing for for
about two years. People are now seeing it now. It's
going to be exciting.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Once they start to doing the construction and that kind
of thing. I gotta believe it's at times we're going
to have traffic interrupted, right. I mean, I'm sure they're
going to try and keep it minimal, but that's something
that as a traveling public we're just gonna have to
be aware of and keep our eye on. Right.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
So thinking you know, like Pool, you want to think
two or three steps down the road. You know the
building that was that was taken down had a basement
in it. Well, North Street. That building's built right on
North Street, so they left the actual basement wall in
there to protect the you know, and there's going to
have to be shoring up of all that. But the
good thing is is there's a sizable portion of that

(07:03):
lot that will not be building. There will not be
a structure, so they'll be able to hopefully do a
lot of work within the confines of defence that's out there.
But yeah, undoubtedly there's gonna be days when something's being
delivered or they're doing something that that that it may
be impact the traffic, but we're going to try to
keep that as as as a minimum.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Task Force LIMA. You guys got together yesterday and I
guess Task Force Lima goes to Washington. That's a new
movie coming out next month.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
New movie, new movie. Yeah, they You know, the task
force has done this previously and it's been a culmination
of many meetings and many discussions and you know, new
new representatives, new senators, the state of Ohio. You know,
I said it yesterday. Any anytime that you can get

(07:55):
those elected officials, those decision makers to this facility, right
to the Joint System manufacturing facility to see what's what's
produced there and see the people. Yeah, that's not just
good for Allen County. I mean that's good for the
state of Wow and our country and our allies to
see for them to see that and put eyes on
that and why that's important. Obviously they're making those decisions,
but they have they have suppliers. Each of our congressional

(08:19):
districts has suppliers. It's providing you know, you know, goods
that are going into the into the machinery that are
coming out there, so for them to understand. So this
is an opportunity for us to get down there and
get in front of front of them, get in front
of their staff people, their staff person, their legislative folks,
to say thank you for everything that's being done over
the last couple of years and to update them on

(08:41):
what's going on and what the vision is going forward.
So yeah, we're going in February pretty intense. It's going
to be a quick in and out and get in
front of our elected officials.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
And of course task Force Alma isn't just concerned with
the firstwhile tank planned as we can still call it sometimes,
but other facilities in the county and around Limba that
also might need some consideration from legislators.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Right yeah, you I mean we are a that task
force is something that is looked at and trying to
be replicated because it is a community effort, and that
community effort has been here for for many decades. You
look at that facility with the BRAC. But yeah, you
think you talk about other impacts that it could have

(09:29):
and how it could step up. Obviously, we want to
support the community, we want to support the county, you know,
and there are successes in the track record of that
of that entity.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
No doubt about it. So when the Task Force Lima
goes to Washington, how many people is are in that contingent?

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Well, we're we're We're fortunate that I think there's eleven
right now that are that are looking to go down
members of the task force, you know, to to to
go down there. And again, you don't want it too
large because some of those offices are not conducive to
having a large contingency in there. But you know, it's
about the messaging. It's about that group really honing in

(10:09):
on on what the messaging is. You know, I'll say it.
You know, you think back, you know, ten years ago
and I read a quote, you know, they were talking
about the tank wasn't needed anymore and they were trying
to really eliminate the production of that important unit for
our for our country. You know, now now they are

(10:29):
producing him. Read an article that came out the sixth
how important the current version of the of the tank
is and what that means in the battlefield, you know,
across the pond. So it is a critically important component
to to our safety and it's awesome that it's produced
right here.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Miss Corey Newton with us this morning. Corey, we appreciate
you stopping by.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
