From 12 September 2025, the EU Data Act became law across all EU countries, including Spain. It is a big new framework for how companies handle data from connected products and cloud services. For large tech firms it means major change, but what about the smallest businesses—like a café with a website, or a local service provider with a Facebook page and a list of customer contacts?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, small business owners in Spain and Europe in general.
I'm Mark Nolan and I have an important don't panic
message for you. You might have heard that the new
EU Data Act came into force on the twelfth of September.
Now you might hear that and think, oh, no, another
complicated law about data. But let's break it down for
the smallest of small businesses. Because the good news is

(00:22):
so long as you are already compliant with things like GDPR,
then you're pretty much already covered. If you've just got
a website, a Facebook page, and maybe a simple mailing
list or client database, the good news is not much
changes for you. The rules you already follow under GDPR
still apply. Keep your customer data secure, only use it

(00:46):
for what you've told people, and don't keep it forever.
So what does the new act actually do well. It's
mainly aimed at the big players companies that make connected
products like cars, smart watches, or household gadgets. They now
have to share the data those devices generate with users
and make it easier to move between different services. For

(01:10):
small businesses like yours. The main point is this, if
you use a cloud provider or hosting company, you now
have more rights to switch services without being locked in
or hit with unfair exit fees. That could make life
easier if you ever want to change where your website
or files are hosted. So three simple takeaways. Keep doing

(01:33):
the basics under GDPR, Know that your rights with cloud
and hosting services are getting stronger. Don't panic. This law
isn't about catching out local cafes, plumbers or shop owners.
It's about keeping the digital world fair as it grows.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
