(00:00):
You both liked it, didn't you?

(00:03):
You can already tell.
This book was made for me.
They might as well have the power of the secret in here.
He was like, "I hate motherfuckers, eat your mom so I'm gonna kill you."
And then she was like, "Oh really?
I hate my mom more."
Do you want the guy who's described by his muscles and his power?

(00:25):
Or do you want the guy who's like, blowing his nose and like, reading each line from the
rule book?
Yeah, I feel like if you just write divergent and say, "A.I.
Add Dragons to Divergent," like, "Of course people are gonna like you.
Don't be worried about that, honey."
Hello everyone and welcome back to season 18 of Mean Book Club.

(00:51):
Oh my God.
You guys.
18 years, legal baby.
Legal baby.
So that's why this season we've got a lot of sex, a lot of, you know, fingering, a lot of
that kind of stuff within the books.
We want straight for it.
In the novels.
In the novels.

(01:11):
Not necessarily between each other.
Now, this first book that we're doing is, it's a real banger.
It's probably one of our most requested books.
It's Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros.
Did I say that name right?
I hope so.

(01:32):
When you put it on our list, Sarah, you just said Fourth Wing by Yarros and I thought for
a while that it was some sort of single named like Yani type figure.
I thought the exact same thing and my reference was also Yani.
That's very funny.
No, no, she goes by two names, but you know, I guess.
The first and the last.

(01:53):
I wish she just went by Yarros.
It would be worth fitting for this mystical certainly.
Wait, it was called a romp to see, I believe.
Romp to see, I believe that I believe that's what they're scrunching together romance and
fantasy and it flows beautifully.
As always, we are finance.

(02:16):
Fine, you could.
I see why they didn't go with that now that you say that.
We are your hosts.
Hi, I'm Sarah Burton.
Clara Morris is not here, which goes right to me.
John is great, but hello.
And then you have me, your favorite host Sabrina B. Jordan.

(02:39):
Yeah.
Now, Clara will be joining us next week.
We are very sad.
We did want to hear her hot takes on this.
Hopefully we can show she can share some of her takes on social media, but you know,
R.A.P.
She's a pretty big user.
Yeah, I have that.
I'm social media.
Yeah, certainly, certainly.
And me and book club, if you see your first time checking in, maybe you're like, oh, I

(03:03):
love this book.
I want to hear what people have to say.
We are me mean book club.
So we read New York Times bestsellers that maybe shouldn't be.
Basically our fans who are in book clubs, et cetera, they're like, I didn't get this.
What the hell?
Why is everyone reading about it?
And they have us read it.
And our fans are funnier than that.

(03:23):
They don't say like, oh, I didn't get this.
They say, yeah, this was a piece of trash.
Yeah, well, let you know what they said.
We'll let you know why they recommended this.
But just I just bringing that up because, you know, sometimes we do like them, but a lot
of times there's a ton for us to rag on.

(03:44):
And so that's our job.
And that's what we're going to be doing today.
So some of us like them more frequently than others.
That's certainly true.
That's certainly true.
Our biggest hater of all time, I think, is Claren.
She's not here today.
So I don't know how this will skew.
This might be a weirdly skewed episode.
We'll find out.
You both liked it, didn't you?

(04:05):
I can already.
I can already eat.
All right, all right.
Okay, I want to just give you a quick who recommended this book.
And like I said, it was many of the many people.
So I'll just give you some excerpts because I can't read them all.
Maddie.
She said, I read this book on 2.8 speed and immediately thought of you, the lovely ladies

(04:27):
of me book club.
Where do I begin with this overhyped book talk sensation?
Shall I start with how the main character is disabled and is drafted into a deadly military
school by her own mother?
Shall I talk about how forthwing takes place at a war college?
What are the breaks about how many cadets die every year?
And then later complaints that there are no soldiers left to fight?
Shall I discuss the many collude-looted rules of the college that we're just supposed to

(04:48):
accept?
Or perhaps that she talked about how an army of dragons is losing to a bunch of birds?
Okay, that's...
Oh, man.
I wish we had Maddie as a guest.
Yeah, she has a lot.
So I'm really excited about this.
She has...
I mean, I guess I should give you a little bit more because hers is really good.

(05:08):
She also says more questions.
Why is no one thought of to make dragon saddles?
Why is stealing bad in the forthwing, but murdering is okay?
Why is Violet so dumb and everyone thinks she's smart?
Why is there a history class, but there's no history in the book?
Okay, Debra also told us to read it.

(05:29):
She said it started off as promising, but by the end it was just a romance.
And I got tired of hearing how hot Zaden was and how Violet wants to feel his muscles.
I mean, she has a dragon.
Yeah, that's true.
Wait, is that so special?
Is that so special?
It's a real placement for something you want to have sex with?
I don't know.
I'm not sure I'm gonna have sex.

(05:49):
And if you don't have sex, I have a dragon.
Thank you.
If you want to feel a muscle, I think that's a better and cooler muscle than any man could
provide.
And Debra said, "When the romantic scenes begin, I was cringing so hard.
I thought I'd need an early Botox appointment."
My friends love it.
It's terrible.

(06:09):
Save me and make me feel sane.
So here we go.
Rosie also mentioned the graphic audio version, which is, I call it a soundscape, but it's
an audio, the audio play version where it's not just one audio reader.
So I guess I'll go to how do you read it?
Did anybody listen to the graphic audio version?

(06:32):
No.
If you had told us about the soundscape before an hour ago, because I absolutely would
have listened to the chorus of multiple characters, reenacting.
There's a moment when characters basically have sex on top of two dragons who are also
having sex.

(06:53):
That would have been a good one, I think.
Did I miss that?
Yes, I guess.
I admit perhaps.
I don't think they have sex.
They're making out over sex of drag.
That was happening at the same time.
They were not noticing while dragons were full-base.

(07:15):
We can get into it later, but do you mean they were physically on top of the drag?
No, no, no.
They were in their minds.
We'll get to it.
Got it.
Got it.
I also didn't listen to this version.
Also I will say this was all this information was in a document shared and available to all

(07:36):
of us, but I also missed it until earlier today and then I tried to go back and listen to
excerpts.
I know exactly why I didn't get the graphic audio version because I did see it.
It was more expensive.
And it was in two books.
So I will say, I found an incredible version where it was free on YouTube, but with so

(07:58):
many numerous ads.
And the hack that I found was after the first time that I closed it and restarted it, it
just never played another ad ever again.
So as long as I never close my computer and always kept that window open somewhere, I could
listen to the rest without any ad breaks.
That's crazy.

(08:20):
It was wonderful.
And you did it.
I listened on YouTube as well and I experienced no ads, but I listened to it was fun.
I listened to the first like 10 hours of it maybe and a trip to and from visiting my mom
and so Meg got to listen to and then we she finished the book that's like she has listened

(08:44):
to a number of excerpts of books on trips, a bottom from Clinton.
I never wanted to finish that one.
I'll tell you that.
Just as everybody said.
Yeah, I get that because I think the reason why we had been putting off doing this book was
because you look at the length and it's like a 20 hour audio book and we were like, oh

(09:06):
God no.
You're gonna see it.
But it really is a quick listen, quick read.
It's definitely, it just is, it goes down easy.
It goes down really easy like dumb easy, but easy.
I guess so again, I'm sad we didn't hear the soundscape.

(09:29):
A soundscape.
I did hear somebody mention when I was like trying to find it that like the one of the the
the Tern one of the the big old dragon sounded like Danny DeVito somebody said.
I didn't get to that excerpt but I was like, oh man.
I did think in the regular audio book version that the dragon voice is kind of took me out

(09:51):
because I thought they were really stupid sounding but we'll get to it.
I can see that.
All right.
I guess it's time for the summary.
Sarah sums it up.
This was, you know what I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna like be, I'm not gonna talk about
it at all.
Well, let's just go into it.
I'm gonna say, given John a situation, Sabrina, can you read the summary?

(10:15):
I guess, my God.
I feel like I need to be honest about what my situation is.
Sorry, I didn't explain that.
So yeah, they don't know.
You're serious and it is.
It is.
Even, even interesting and it's really quite sad.
I'm currently recording this in my car parked outside my apartment.
So sad.

(10:35):
Because someone in my household is screaming at this moment and they're screaming very
loudly.
Well, let you guess who?
I will guess who.
Guess who.
Matt.
All right.
Sabrina, if you will.
I certainly will.

(10:56):
Thank you so much.
Okay.
Hi.
I'm Violet.
I'm just a normal freshman in college or college, I mean.
And yeah, I use terms like for the win and talk about quote the vibe.
But the year is actually not 2012.

(11:17):
It's older, like middle earth or something.
Oh, in the war college, my mom's the general.
I'm very weak and breakable and into books, but my mom last minute forced me into the major
in dragon riding.
Why?

(11:37):
Well, we never know.
So, based.
What is a base?
So based.
Gen Z slang, don't worry about it.
99% of people are going to understand just move past them.
As I said, so based.

(11:57):
Also, like, even though there is a war that needs soldiers, most of the students just die
trying to ride and that's chill.
So top-gone.
But with dragons, right, or like, so hunger games, but with fucking.
Anyway, let me introduce you to my friends.
That's Dane.
His dad works for my mom.

(12:19):
And we've been friends since we were kids.
Seems like we should hook up, but he's obsessed with rules, which even though it sounds normal
for a war college, it's a real turn-off for me.
Plus, he keeps trying to get me to major and scribe.
But like I've always wanted my entire life, but how dare he?

(12:41):
Then, there's Zadem, is a wing leader.
It's weird he isn't such a position of power because his dad was a traitor who murdered
my brother and then his daddy was caught in sentence to death by my mom, but whatever.
He has scares and a chiseled jawline and he also wants to kill me, which is pretty hot.

(13:08):
And I did mean to say that he has scars and a chiseled jawline.
Also, just want to comment on the fact that he is the wing leader.
Yeah.
Wings would think is fun.
He's a wing leader.
He's a wing leader.
Contissue.
Anyway, I guess I'm a good little dragon right after all.

(13:30):
Good little dragon rider after all because I cheated using my dad brother's notes and now
I can poison people before I fight them.
Plus, I didn't let that jackassful randomly murder a small dragon.
So big dragon and maybe dragon both chose me as their riders lol like big power.

(13:53):
Also, big dragon is made of satan's big dragon.
Oh my god, that means our faiths are linked and if he dies, I might die.
Yes, that doesn't make sense, but like so many things in this book, if you repeated it
enough, it must be true.
Nothing too hard about it.
Hello, you guys.
This book is fired.
Check it out.

(14:14):
Ouch, my bones hurt.
Okay, JK, I'm fine.
The end.
This.
Very thorough Sarah.
Yes, I didn't realize until much later, I should have read that so much faster.
We'll just have it's been up and post.
You're reading it for the first time and it was kind of written non-sensically.

(14:38):
Sabrina, you did great.
I do feel that you like to linger in the summaries.
You tend to really draw the character out.
Well, it's like people's foundation in the book if they haven't read the book.
It's true.
I do think it's good.

(14:58):
I just, the dialogue, or the monologue later, it was clear to me that it was in a fast
pace, but in the beginning, it was, there was no direction.
I didn't give you any direction, so yeah.
I like that even in finding a criticism for yourself to do something differently next
time, you found a way to complement yourself within the criticism.

(15:20):
Absolutely.
It's actually the way I do it's really good because this is people's introduction to the
plot of the book and you should just slow down.
It is.
And they want you to speak so late, very true.
I think I hit everything, all the important things so that you would understand the plot.
John, do you have a, do we have a John as jugs?

(15:42):
I mean, can I even say I'm sitting behind the driver's seat of a car?
I was sitting up right now.
Yeah, you can be arrested for talking about alcohol while in a car.
Well, I know someone that did get a DUI because he was sitting in the front seat of his car.
And yes, he was drunk, but he was not going to drive anywhere.

(16:03):
He was sleeping at all.
Had the car moved.
No, but the keys were in it and the car was running.
Yeah, that does look good.
Here's the thing is that all sounds like a lie.
And it made it was going to drive somewhere.
No, it sounds like a lie that he hadn't driven with like he's in the driver's seat and

(16:26):
the car is on in the ignition.
It's like, how did the car get there to be on?
I think it was the night was ending and he was just kind of chilling.
Like, yes, he did drive.
He did drive, but he had gone home.
And so like that, you know, it doesn't matter, right?

(16:46):
He like did it and you can't like rest someone for after the fact, right?
Okay, here's the thing.
I'm scared, but I am having a hard kombucha and the reason I paired it with this book is
really to pair it with the fact that I'm in the driver's seat of a car.
And it's a can and it's not a bottle or a glass of wine.
Okay, would you say the car is like your dragon?

(17:09):
Oh my God.
Am I bonded to the car?
Do the car choose me?
And has the car given me any special powers?
Yes, I'm going to say no to all three in which case the car is not like my dragon.
Has anyone ever had hard kombucha before I've never had it?
Oh, I actually like it a lot.
Is it June Shine?

(17:30):
That's a really good brand.
It's Jant.
Which sounds like a combo word like our romanticy and I'm drinking Taco Tuesday, Pineapple
Spicy Marg.
A lot of things are gone on in this drink now that I think about it.
That sounds good though.
It does sound good.

(17:52):
I drink it.
I'm not.
Okay, it's okay.
But it's only okay.
All right.
Well, you know what, spicy.
But that's the pairing.
Yes.
Hard like Zaden's pecs.
Everything.
Yeah, everything.
But I would say kombucha is the most fantastical of the alcoholic beverages.

(18:15):
Yeah, mead might, mead might be up there, but I agree that I'm the only.
Yeah, mead would have been a really good pairing.
Wow.
Wow.
Why didn't you find, where do you find mead?
Where does one buy mead?
I'm sure there actually are places in Brooklyn.
Yeah, just served mead actually.
Yeah.
Mead bars.
Yeah, there's big out of existence.

(18:36):
Brooklyn, my God.
Honestly, every time I go to Pennsylvania, I also
stumble across the store that only sells.
Also mead.
Wow.
Mead.
I haven't, can't say I've had it, but it's pricey.
It's okay.
So, ba-da-ba-ba-ba.
It's Jan Hard Kombucha Taco Tuesday Pineapple Spicy Marg.

(18:58):
There's a lot in there, just like there's a lot in fourth wing, which we will get back
to after this quick commercial break.
All right, we're back.

(19:19):
We're talking fourth wing.
Okay, let me just give you a quick background about this book.
It was published in April 2023.
Currently as of this recording, it has spent 70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller
list.
It's been a number one bestseller in Amazon.
It's been like USA to Davis, seller.

(19:43):
It's got, it's been everywhere, folks.
Reese, where are you on this one?
Maybe all over these.
All right.
It's not really her style to have hardcore fucking and Reese's book club.
Sure.
Yeah, unless there's like abuse, maybe.
Yeah, maybe.
There are like some fires.
But we're back.
That's like, but you're right.

(20:05):
She usually just show up here.
Now the author Rebecca Yara, she obviously an author.
She graduated from Troy University.
She studied European history in English.
She began writing while her husband was deployed in Afghanistan.
So she's a military wife.
So she likes to write about military heroes.
Apparently she has six children.

(20:28):
Wow.
This has Ella's Dan Lowe's syndrome or EDS, which is kind of basically what violet has.
We can talk about that a little bit more later.
She lives in Colorado.
She has, oh goodness, I don't have this information in front of me.
Okay, I'll try to remember it.
She is, well, she is, she had two dogs.

(20:51):
So the main dragon is fired by a bulldog she had.
A bulldog she had.
And then like during the pandemic, they got a puppy.
And so the bulldog, bulldog, it goes very curmudgeonly towards it.
So then that's, I guess, was the inspiration for the two dragons, the older one and the baby

(21:14):
dragon that we will talk about later.
But she also has this book.
Now, I know what I mean.
She also has a cat in two chinchillas.
Now.
Okay.
She's quirky and that's important to communicate to the entire world.
Yes.
Now, the first book, she's written like 20 books or so, but the first book she wrote was fantasy.

(21:37):
It didn't sell.
She switched to romance.
She's pretty much been doing romance, new adult, which is like 18 to 25 year olds until
this book was her first like stepping back into fantasy, this romantic fantasy genre.
And well, I guess she was nervous that people wouldn't accept her into this new genre, but

(21:59):
I guess she fucking owns the genre now because of how popular her book is.
So popular.
I mean, yeah.
Yeah, I feel like if you just write divergent and say, AI add dragon to divergent, of course
people are going to like you.
Don't be worried about that, honey.
Yes.
They're going to love you.

(22:20):
This is going to be adapted by Michael B. Jordan's At Liar Studio and it's going to be for
Amazon.
Amazon purchased the rights.
Can I ask?
Can we just put, can we all make a concerted effort to put into the universe that perhaps Michael
B. Jordan himself will be Satan?
Maybe.

(22:41):
I guess I thought like, is it a little old?
Yeah, it's in, it's like 20.
Maybe Jordan is 23 if he's a day.
You're so right, Sabrina.
You're so right.
I also would argue.
He's a timeless beauty.
I thought, I thought, Satan was like, I saw him as like Indian.

(23:04):
Oh, interesting.
I don't think I might have been a scribe.
A race to him.
Yeah, I actually don't think I ascribed a race either.
It's fine.
They tried to pick one now.
You think she, okay, he's definitely a person of, he's definitely a person of color.
There's very little description other than dark hair.

(23:25):
He essentially has black eyes.
And then it says he has tawny skin, which I think is a very, which is subtle, I guess, if
you're like, but I felt, I don't know.
Tawny to me was like, is like Asian Indian.
That's what it made me think Indian, but I could be wrong about that.
I guess we'll have to wait till the series and find out if it's Michael.

(23:47):
We'll find out for sure.
For sure.
By who the casting director chooses.
Yeah.
Listen.
I think Michael B. Jordan can pull off any hot person who's violent then.
Not Michael B. Jordan.
I actually kept picturing Clara, to be honest.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm so sad you said.

(24:10):
They describe violent as quite frail.
She is like five, two, so I mean, you know, taller than Clara.
She's petty, but scrappy, very, very short, but wily.
The classic hero when you're going to encounter in these books.

(24:31):
Too small to be useful yet somehow the strongest person in the book anyway.
Yeah.
Oh, maybe Sabrina Carpenter.
That is.
Two Meg dream casts.
Oh, okay.
There we go.
I'm on board.
I love it.
I would love it.
All right.
So let's just quick.
I guess.
I mean, I don't even know how you guys want to go into this because this is.

(24:55):
I mean, there's a lot of book.
We're talking about fantasy realm.
So there's a bunch of rules and weird stuff, but a violent soren gale as Sabrina just played
is the lead.
It starts out with her having to go to this war college, her mother, general Lillith.
We've sent her there even though she was supposed to be a scribe and she seems like mad

(25:19):
about it, but she's like, can't argue with my mom.
Oh, I hate my mom.
You know how fun it sounds to be a scribe also clearly.
A lot of people clamoring for the job.
It sounds better in when you find out that like the dragon writers all just like mostly
die.
They all die.
That's all you're going to do is die.
It does seem so silly.

(25:41):
I mean, you know, just how about if they fail something, let them go becomes something else,
you know, let them be on the world of always deeds.
Sanitation workers.
Yeah.
That wasn't a, what are they?
Quadrants?
That wasn't one.
And they definitely should have the issue.
Where are the teachers, the nurses, the healers?

(26:03):
The healers.
The healers, the healers, that is, the healers, but the healers are just like if that's your
special power, your healer.
No, no, I think there was also a, I think there was also, no, I'm not positive, but I think
there was also a quadrant where there was like medical school, but there, there was like
two, there was like a healer where you had powers, but then there was also like, you

(26:26):
studied it and you use like medicinal herbs.
I feel like there was sort of two different things.
And I mean, I hope you have people out there that are given regular mammograms and perhaps
mirrors as well.
I don't know.
I don't need them.
I don't need them.
I don't care.
Again, I feel this is middle earth, I don't think those things happen, which is probably
why they don't, they can't help.

(26:47):
She has, so Violet has this rare condition she's born with.
Obviously her ligaments enjoy a sub-luxate frequently.
And it made her hair turn silver gray at the ends, which is so pretty like a little belly
ash.
And also, it's very in.
Very in and she's also like, I'm not cutting it.

(27:08):
It did make sense.
They made a big deal of that when she was going into the work cage where they're like,
everyone says, cut your hair.
It's going to be in the way.
And she's like, no, I'm not cutting it.
Also it's just at the ends of the hair, not like the root of the hair.
It just made the tip of her hair gray.
Doesn't make sense your hair grows out.
But they all refer to her as silver haired one.

(27:32):
Like, you get a couple of grays.
No, she's dying that.
She's dying that.
Yeah.
She's also described as thin and frail and the mother character says of the father, I told
him not to keep you in that library.
Yeah.
Yeah, the library did that to her.
So the body is in my library.
I thought we were going to get more.

(27:53):
Like, I don't know.
I thought there was something about like her pregnancy and like, that was why she was frail.
There was the mother's pregnancy.
The mother's, yeah, it said like she got a fever during the pregnancy and that's why she
was got this condition.
But they didn't really go into it.
Like, I only know about EDS because like the author said she has it and that's based off

(28:15):
of what the author herself has.
But like, I also felt like it was just at the beginning and then like a few times she
would say shit like, I know what it's like to fight through pain.
And which I guess is obviously must be a reference to the condition, but it didn't seem
to be that big of a deal.
And I don't know if that's like the point or if it's like it felt like she forgot that

(28:40):
that was a feature of the character to me.
It was interesting.
It was like, it was a huge deal.
Like her sister, Mira was very upset about the fact that she was going in to be one
of the dragonwriters in part because she is frail and has this condition.
And Mama Sorengale was like, bitch, this girl has more pain before breakfast than you do

(29:06):
ride near dragon and almost dying.
So she can take it.
So it was a big deal then, but then like once she's riding the dragon and stuff, I mean,
I guess like her not being able to sit in the seat by herself.
I felt like that was also just because she was small though.
Like yeah, like she's five, two, like yeah.
But again, are we talking about the seat of the dragon?

(29:28):
Because there is no dragon seat.
No, yeah, the seat, that's what they called it, like his back that she's her own.
Right, but I mean his neck or whatever.
But there's no like chair.
There's no little.
Yeah, they had to make sap.
She was the first one to ever have one apparently.
But a little booster, a dragon booster.

(29:49):
But beyond that, there's also her friend, Dane Atoes, who is, yes, a Nark.
I guess it's supposed to be set up that like, oh, maybe 11th, but it's pretty obvious
from the jump that that's not a real love interest, right?
She's just like, oh, yeah.
Oh, I thought it was going to be a couple.

(30:09):
I thought it was, you thought that was going to happen?
I thought, I guess like maybe my expectations of the book were lower even than the
book gave us.
I was like, sure, this is the best they can do.
Wow.
Yeah, I was like, why are they making it so clear that this, whenever it is that they can

(30:32):
just not going to be a thing?
Like, I really thought, I really thought they could have made us like believe that was
going to happen much longer.
Like typically I feel like there's more will they want, they are like team, let somebody
be team, Dane and other people be team Zaden for a book before like it becomes clear
who's end game.
Like, they would for hunger games are like almost any room, any book that has this kind

(30:56):
of love triangle, but it was just like very, I think very apparent that it was like, no,
because like also introducing Zaden so funny, I like to talk forever about Zaden.
It's introduces him and he's like, the scar that marks his eyebrow only makes him hotter,
flaming hot, scorching hot gets you in trouble and you like it level hot.

(31:17):
And like she just like immediately like she's like, this guy wants to kill me, but oh my
god, he's so fucking hot.
And like let him murder my body.
And my pussy.
Yeah, exactly.
I love this because it was just like so apparent.
He was so, they did.
I love an enemy's to love his trope, but this was not it because it was like so clear.

(31:43):
It was more like insta love and it was just funny because it basically ended up being like
he was like, I hate, I fucking hate your mom.
So I'm going to kill you.
And then she was like, Oh, really?
I hate my mom more.
Yeah.
And then it was like, I'm not going to tell her that you're like doing secret meetings.

(32:05):
And it's like, wow, he's like, wow hot.
And then you know they were to John, did you not agree?
No, I do.
I definitely agree.
I did think it was like a big deal that he, she was like, well, I'm not going to tell my
mom that you're having secret meetings because her, her mom is like the general against

(32:26):
the, there is like a resistance party.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And it's mighty brave to be like, wow, you're doing something that could get you killed
and me killed just for knowing it.
I'm not going to say anything.
Yeah.
And it made her sound like such a teenager like fuck my mom.
She's like that's what I felt like.

(32:47):
But remember that she's 20 years old and they made that very clear in the beginning, which
is how we either be fucking right, which is funny because I do think the language and the
way she acts like I feel like she's 16.
But then they're like, but then they were like, but we're going to put a lot of fucking in
it.
Oh, also we should just because there is a lot of fucking that it's like very clear at

(33:08):
the beginning when they're like every people you might die.
So you might die any moment.
So you better, you better fuck any chance you get like they set that up at the beginning,
which is so funny to me like it is what a premise.
It is so crazy too because it's like the world is ending.
Actually, we're training you to stop that from happening, but we get it.

(33:29):
You're going to need to stop fighting to fuck right.
Which I also want to talk about because I feel like if I were in a life or death, the
world is ending scenario, I'm not personally finding time to fuck like I can't find time
if the house is too dirty.
If there is stress in my life, I need to deal with that first.

(33:53):
But when you were in college, were the like and times wouldn't and times sneaky horny because
I feel like maybe you're not thinking of yourself in college.
I think I need to deal with my str- I my stress first.
And if death is imminent, I'm putting a lot of my mental energy into not dying.
Okay, okay.

(34:14):
A lot of it.
A lot of it.
And like even if, even if I'm like, you know what?
Let's do it.
Let's move to the fucking.
That's all I'm going to think about is the imminent death.
Yeah.
I think it would be like, wow, I'm, isn't it so cool of me to be fucking knowing that

(34:35):
we're all about to die.
Yeah.
It's cool that I'm thinking-
I don't even know that I'd think it was cool.
I think I'd be like, well, this is never going to happen because all I can think about
is how I'm about to die.
I feel like at that age, even if you're telling me about to die, I don't believe it.
I feel like at that age, you're like, I'm going to live forever.

(34:55):
And like, you do stupid stuff.
That's the only way I can understand the fucking because you're right.
If I was really believed I was going to die, I would not be able to be fucking as much
as these kids.
Okay.
You've introduced a new component for me, which actually makes it more believable because
I actually think I will never believe I'm dying and it will happen.

(35:17):
I know that it'll happen.
Don't put that in the universe.
You don't know that it will.
That's true.
That's true.
I do eat a lot of vegetables.
And that'll do it.
And beans.
Okay.
Other characters to mention, I mean, we can Jack Barlow is some sort of villain in this.

(35:40):
There's a bunch of people that just want to kill her either.
It's so funny how many people want to kill her.
It's like they either want to kill her because they're like rebels.
Do we explain this yet?
The whole Zaden, I explained in the summary about it, but go ahead.
It also isn't that clear in the book as you're reading it.
You know that there is something, but you don't have the full picture kind of until the end.

(36:01):
But you know that there are rebels.
You know that there are children of people who were adults that betrayed someone for some
reason, which actually you don't really even still know.
It's not why.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Why?
I better read the rest of the series and don't worry.
My household already has book two.

(36:23):
Good good.
But you know, but it is confused.
It is like weird that it's like, oh, these are the children of all these rebels we killed
and we're forcing them to become dragon riders.
It just seems weird because I get like the whole like, well, they could die, but it's also
like, or they could get limitless powers like.
And rise up like this.

(36:43):
Why?
I feel like who's who's plan was this?
This is like the dumbest fucking plan I've ever heard in my life.
Like you deserve them to rise up and take you down because like, it's not a good plan
to get the princess.
That's also introduced very early that one of the things threatening the town of Navarre

(37:04):
is that there are some birds that like got up into the mountains and were packing at
people and the griffins is the griffins.
And it is, which are much bigger than just like birds.
Yeah, but it's true.
Birds.
Certainly birds are doing.
In a world with dragons.
It is true.
It's true.
It is funny.

(37:25):
A dragon could munch two birds like a handful of popcorn.
Yeah, it does feel like you're like, what is this situation where the people rebelling
are flying on birds?
Like it does seem like maybe is this like an Israel palestine situation like what's going
on here?
A really great metaphor to bring up Sarah.
I wanted to talk about.

(37:45):
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
I was reading between the lines.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
I hope we end up trying to talk about it.
That's not the end of the cast.
Yeah, certainly keep listening.
But let's first take another quick commercial break and we will be right back.
Yeah, this is a good time for us to go.
People will be forever.

(38:06):
[Music]

(38:35):
Okay, and we're back.
Okay, I guess this guy is.
Is that the name of the word college?
Do you want to talk about, maybe we should talk about like the tropes in this book because
I feel like then we'll hit like plot points and stuff by talking about the tropes because
there's a lot in this and it's very fun.

(38:57):
Yeah, and part of it we talked about there's the male childhood friend love interest.
Love interest who turns into kind of a villain.
No, I'm saying love.
Yeah, you love that trope.
Okay, fan of that trope.
Yeah, Danny.
And I wanted to work out usually.

(39:19):
As I can see, your big fan of day and your big day in fan.
I mean, look, I usually want that trope to work out as well.
Gale for life.
Wow.
But, I mean, absolutely.
I guess I understand that a little bit more than that.
But I just feel like here, it's like the comparison between Zaden and what I was going to say here
is like, Danny is such a dud.

(39:41):
Yeah, he is.
He's like a little rule follower and he's like, oh, I don't want you to die.
It's like, yeah, maybe in real life, that's nice.
That's pretty nice actually.
Yeah, but like in your books, you don't want somebody to be like that.
You want them to be like, I think you could fight and fuck.
And you want the guy who's described by his muscles and his power every time he comes into

(40:06):
a chapter or do you want the guy who's like blowing his nose and like reading each line
from the rule book.
Yeah, there's a lot to be said for a guy who's going to know when your car is going to
expire and you need to get it inspected again.
Yeah.
So you're going to get with Danny.
No, but that's the thing.

(40:27):
That's not what Dan's going to do.
What Dan's going to do is he's going to wait until your car's inspection has expired
and then he's going to call the DMV and they'll say, this is actually something the traffic
cops handle and he'll be like, well, I have them on speed dial two.
And then he's going to call the traffic cops and he's going to report you for having your
expiration up.

(40:48):
And then he's going to be like, you know, this is really for your own good.
You're learning lesson here.
I agree.
I agree.
I hate Dan.
He sucks.
Dan, Dan, Dan very clearly sucks.
And I wish Dan had been written in a more positive light.
So I could have at least rooted for him for like a few pages.
It just, right.

(41:08):
So yeah, painfully obvious that he was, and he's no pita.
He's, yeah, he's no, well, I think is, well, okay.
Then there's of course, there's the heroine who falls in love with the bad boy who is a tragic
backstory who ends up being actually a really great person.
And that's Zaden.

(41:29):
That is very standard.
I also feel like here I need to mention Akatar because we're going to read it later.
A court of thorns and roses.
It's a book we'll be reading later.
And you call it Akatar.
Akatar like it's just if you're if you're in the know.

(41:52):
Okay.
I'm not.
You're short.
You, you, you, you guys will be, you guys will be, faces, faces, there will be some similarities.
And I will say that the one biggest critique I have against Zaden is that he seemed, he's
kind of like, I don't know like a B tier, Reese.

(42:13):
And that's, that's, that's just the truth.
We're going to, you're going to meet a better hot guy in a later fantasy book we read.
Okay.
I'm going to hide for a second.
I hold on.
I'm realizing Sarah put together this entire season's list.
She said, don't worry.
I actually handled it.
I have books for us.

(42:35):
Don't worry about doing the work everyone.
And I am now realizing that we might be reading eight Romanticies with heavy fucking.
Yeah.
You might have a few of these books.
Listen, I'm into it.
So I didn't object other than to insist that one book beyond the list.

(42:56):
Yeah.
Of course.
You're going to book me one.
My Stacey Abrams.
My wife is very different.
I'm very different.
Look, this was the, guys, I feel like we had to do that.
This was book, I mean was just like so many people want us to do.
I feel like, yeah, I will take court of thorns roses.
Yes, I put that, I very much so force that one in.
And I'm very excited to force it in that book.

(43:16):
I am this book, many people in my personal life, not in my main book club capacity have told
me to read it.
And so whenever someone tells me to read something, my greatest hope is that it makes it
on to our main book club list.
Good.
See you on them.
See you on them.
Yeah.
But, Sabrina, I feel like you just had a revelation of some kind as well.

(43:38):
Oh no, it's actually really sad.
And then I was like, maybe it's good that we moved on, but okay, just to circle back when
I was saying bases, bases, I thought that I was referencing that Gen Z reference that
you put in the outline and it's based.
Okay.
And I had to use Google AI overview to figure that out.

(43:58):
I feel like, I feel like the type of person who says I'm using the Google.
You know what I'm doing?
I'm, we're all learning guys.
We're about to try to do a lot of TikTok social media and you know, we're going to learn
so much from that.
I spent seven hours a day on TikTok.

(44:19):
I had to give myself, it's not really seven, but it was pretty, but also it's like what's
your alg, you know, what's your algo?
What's, what he's seen could be really specific.
Lesbians.
Lesbians, cats.
Yeah.
Golden buzzers.
Oh my God.
I don't actually know what that means.
What does that mean?
Oh my God.

(44:39):
Like America's got talent.
Golden buzzer goes, okay.
So like, straight into the competition.
Okay, okay.
I see.
I see.
Not what I thought.
Not, but anyway.
I guess served a lot of like, did you know that cows respond to violin playing and they
love it?

(45:00):
And every time you kill a cow, it's mother cries.
That's hard.
Yeah.
That's so sad.
Yeah.
It's hard.
I don't even need anymore.
We'll fix that for you later, Donna.
More tropes.
Okay.
Yeah.
We just talked about the heroin fossil of the bad boy.

(45:22):
Here's just a few lines I've added from the book.
There's nowhere in existence you could go that I wouldn't find you violence.
He calls her violent.
He calls her violent.
Violet.
Which is just fun, I think.
Oh, and this is, this is her thought.
This is violent thoughts.
My breath catches and my body warms the traitorous bitch.

(45:45):
You are not attracted to toxic man.
I remind myself.
And yet here I am getting all attracted.
Of course.
A lot of stuff.
Oh, and I would say forced proximity is a big trope that obviously is in this one, but
it's in, I actually thought it was a little creative how the forced proximity happens.
A little creative.
I agree.
I think it was very creative.

(46:05):
It's not like they had to be together because of their dragons are mated.
And it was funny though to me because it's like the whole like, oh, but if she dies, you
might die.
I kept being like, why?
And I didn't feel like that was ever clear.
I do feel like they explained it.
Which is, a dragon mate bonds are incredibly strong.

(46:30):
Okay.
So if a dragon's mate dies, that dragon will basically start to suck and maybe like die
themselves naturally, but it's like they're going to suck it battle and they're going to
get killed and they're going to get their rider killed.
It's like, well, I would have to mad if I ever died.

(46:51):
He would start to suck, but it's not like an automatic death sentence.
I don't know.
Everyone's acting like it was like, well, like it was like a magic bond that like,
but you'd immediately remember that Zaden is one of these people who is only allowed to
be a rider or gets executed because his dad was a trader.
Oh, yeah.

(47:12):
Also, yes.
So that's a thing and he's got all these scars to prove it, but obviously by the end we find
out he is totally like rebellion and shit.
And it's like, dude, why did you?
You're going to die.
I don't know.
That's really bold.
He's really bold.

(47:32):
He's like sneaking away from college to lead a rebellion at the same time being like, he
wasn't even keeping a low profile at the college.
It's not like he's like, I'm here and I'm doing my part.
He was like, the wing leader and like, fucking the general's daughter.
And then it's like also leading a rebellion.
What do you have the time to do this?
I don't.
Yeah, if you're going to lead the rebellion, fly under the radar on fucking the general's

(47:54):
daughter.
Yeah, don't.
Don't do the other stuff.
Okay, but he couldn't possibly because, oh my god, you guys, the dragons.
So each rider gets connected to their dragon.
I do want to get to her being connected to two dragons.
One of my favorite characters in the book is the little baby dragons you can have to do.

(48:17):
But it's our not.
It's so good.
But to explain this fucking thing.
So the dragons are made and also like each person is bonded to their dragon.
And you can the dragon.
No, no, they can be a circle of fucking and bonding.
They communicate mentally with their dragons.

(48:39):
And sometimes if like the dragons are having like a really intense feeling or experience,
they're not even deliberately trying to communicate with their riders.
But they're just like sending that on to the universe.
And so, Segeil and Ter are fucking and they're like having the hottest time.
And so then both Zaden and Violet are feeling all this horny energy.

(49:07):
And then they like, of course, they're gonna like fuck.
Yeah.
Of course.
How did you experience it in college with my roommate fucking on the bunk bed below mine?
My instinct wasn't to also fuck.
It was to sleep in the lobby of my dormitory.
Oh, no, that's different.

(49:28):
I think that's different.
Yeah, I feel like what's happening must be literally like whole senior blood to your
coot or you know, that's it's got that.
Literally.
That must be what's happening when you're like when they're when they're fucking.
But yeah, that's that's that was like a very funny.
I wish what had happened when that was happening was I wanted her.

(49:49):
To give you a horny and then run into Jane.
Jane and accidentally fuck him and then be like, Oh, shit.
And then have to have have him like think there to get.
I thought that was gonna be a whole and then I would be really good.
And then Zaden walks in and Zaden's like, what the fuck is this?
Yeah, but he is no claim because they weren't together.

(50:11):
Right.
The dragon went to my cooter.
It's on my fault.
And he doesn't get it, which also.
Oh, God.
You know, they also get powers after they bond with the dragon and Dane, he kept mind read,
which is like definitely the best power.
Yeah, it's pretty good.
Thank you.
Although he has to touch you, but I guess that's only.

(50:33):
Oh, but he doesn't mind breaking that fucking rule.
He tried to get what was going on in Violet's head without permission.
Yes, because he didn't believe.
Okay.
So somebody some bunch of people, there's also so funny how many people try to kill Violet
throughout her time in college is very funny because by the way, sometimes murder is okay.
Sometimes it's, a lot of times it's just fine.

(50:54):
It's mostly fine in college.
They're totally like weed out the week, whatever, kill each other, but you cannot do it while
they're sleeping.
Why?
I don't know.
I don't really see it as unfair if you can fucking kill them any other time.
But it's a really big deal that these people tried to kill her after because they wanted

(51:14):
her dragon essentially.
And then I guess, which is also stupid because it's like if your writer dies, the dragon is
devastated and maybe doesn't bond again.
And also her dragon hadn't bonded to anybody in decades.
So like, they kind of tried to be like, well, if they're, they had, they're newly bonded.

(51:37):
So it's a weak bond.
So maybe the dragon will be so impressed that I killed her that they'll want to meet
a bond with me.
It just was like, okay, I don't really get that logic, but there was a lot of logic for people
doing evil things that didn't quite make sense.
Even Jack, Jack, it's called a plot hole.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I don't, I don't read it the same.

(51:58):
I don't read the Jack, Carlo, like it was so funny because he was just like stereotypically
mean and like wanted to kill her.
And then like when they went, they had a day where they go like bond with the dragons.
And he was like, instead of bonding with the dragons, I'm not sure.
I'm going to go try to kill that little dragon.
I don't know.
I don't think it should be alive.

(52:18):
It's like, why?
Why?
That is not going to impress a dragon.
How do you kill the baby?
I'm a dragon bonding day.
Well, in the logic at all.
They don't know that it's a baby, right?
They think it's a small weak dragon.
And it's a feather tail is what they call it.

(52:39):
And in the book, feather tails are golden and have paws instead of talons.
It's so cute.
And a little feather tail.
And we just like see like a small dragon.
I was like, either this is a baby or like secretly a crazy powerful dragon.

(53:02):
It is a baby, which is so cute.
It's just like a little baby.
I think this is must be something you both liked, but I thought that was stupid.
Oh my god.
And she, okay.
Why is there a baby?
It's so cute because this big, big dragon comes, Taren.

(53:24):
And like helps out our main character, Violet, because she tried to save this baby dragon,
which was also crazy.
Like she has basically no power behind her.
And she's like, I'm going to go kill these multiple men who are trying to kill this dragon.
It gets involved.
And then like poison, don't forget.
Oh, yeah, she is.
She's a lot of poison people.

(53:45):
But then when they're like, okay, who bonded?
And it's like me, Taren.
And then she's like, and me and our.
And that was the voice.
She was like, what?
And then they're like, say it out loud, Violet.
She's bonded to, she's like me too.

(54:07):
And Darn, I bonded.
It would be like, oh no.
No, no, no, we're not bonded.
We're like friends, but we're not bonded.
I'll be like, because she was such dead weight.
I mean, I get the chance.
But also like, you know in the later books, she's going to be a badass bitch or she's going

(54:27):
to die tragically.
I believe that.
I believe that.
But like, I was expecting her.
I actually did think she would die.
I thought it was just a plot to make you be like, oh, a baby.
And then you have a heart of stone.
Well, that's why I wasn't getting attached.
I was like, they're just putting this baby here to like, that's, that's really what I thought.
And I was angry about it.
It's one of the greatest sadness of my life that I will not ever get to meet a baby dragon

(54:51):
for real.
Same.
I keep thinking about it.
Yeah.
And I googled, I googled fan art of Andarna.
Just like, like, have.
You got it.
So I could have something to look at.
And there's a lot out there.
I prefer the ones that are like cozy cartoon versions with like big, rosy cheeks.

(55:12):
Yeah.
Yeah, big ones.
I wasn't a fan of that.
I actually was like, and then there's this whole thing about like, don't tell anybody.
It's a baby.
And it was like, why?
I don't know.
It felt like there was a lot of like, to do about, oh, this is a big secret.
People can't know that like, it never, that never came back or I mean, maybe it must in the

(55:32):
next book because maybe it's a surprise.
It was a lot of time wasted in my opinion.
There's a lot as a society that these people don't know that they should.
One is like, they should know that feather tails are baby dragons.
That's pretty obvious, pretty apparent.
They should also know how to make saddles for the dragons.
And third, they should know how to make armor.

(55:55):
And it shouldn't be like, violets, scrappy older sister picking up the shillings from her
dragon and like bonding them together to give violet a shield.
Like, we should all have that.
That seems like it's pretty strong.
It feels like this world's Kevlar.
And I don't know why they don't know it.
Mm-hmm.

(56:15):
Oh, yeah.
Or also have their history.
Yes, yes.
But I guess we do find out by the end why they seem to know nothing.
History in books.
And it's literally just because the country that we've been rooting for ends up that they're
probably evil.
And I feel like I've been burning books and stuff.

(56:37):
But like, what are the scribes doing?
Are the scribes failing?
We don't know anything about the scribes.
They might have a story in some other book.
We should say this.
Her daddy was a scribe.
A side of like heartache or something after her older brother Brennan was killed like a
few years ago.
And he apparently gave her a book so she had some knowledge and she was all like, why isn't

(57:03):
this book anywhere in the library that should have all the books?
And it's like, maybe because they're like burning books so they're like keeping things
truths from you.
Be suspicious.
But you know, I guess at the end she's like, oh, my dad was trying to tell me something
by, I know.
And it's like, we all need to.
We all need to.

(57:23):
But I'll certainly tell you.
Why didn't he just tell her?
I think he should have just told her.
Well, I think it's because of her mom.
Honestly, he probably first of all couldn't even get a moment of silence with his daughter.
I bet mom can like hear, we don't know much about mom.
Oh, yeah, I don't know what her powers are.
Yeah, you're right.
I don't know.

(57:43):
Classic lady, squat, squat, squat.
Yeah.
She didn't seem to be quite a bitch.
She did.
She'd absolutely did.
John, as a mother to a daughter, how did it make you feel?
Did it make you think, oh, I need to be careful not to become the general.
I need to have a better relationship with my daughter.
Or did she feel like, oh, the general, she knew what was right all along.

(58:06):
She told her to be a dragon rider because she knew she would be a good dragon rider.
You know, like, how did you feel?
I definitely, I want to have a cool friendship with my daughter.
So I'd say that this is a lesson to look out for.
And I'm already headed in the wrong direction because I've noticed now when I say her name

(58:28):
at all, she turns to me in a startled way.
Like she's been caught doing something.
So I think I have a little bit of a general persona at this time.
That's not helping with the cool chill mom friendship vibe that I seek.
Yeah, it's going to be, it's going to be hard to keep that going through the toddler years.

(58:50):
Chill mom.
It's going to be really hard.
But good luck.
So far, it's clearly gone great.
She throws her hands up in the air startled when I say her name.
That's where, that's where I right now.
She is always trying to go for cords is the problem.
That's fun.

(59:11):
Well they are attractive.
Sure.
I use them all the time all day long.
Yeah, sorry.
I just want to quick go back to the instance where Violet was somebody trying to kill her
in her sleep and the person was Amber who was one of Danes friends.
That's why Dan didn't believe her and wanted to read her mind to see if it was true.

(59:32):
But it was like also funny because he was like, it couldn't be Amber.
Amber wouldn't do it.
She's too much about rules to kill you.
Which is so funny logic anyway.
And then it's like she reveals that she didn't even, Amber didn't even really want her dragon.
She just won't, thinks that we all need to kill the weakest link.
And it's like, why?

(59:52):
This is just like over and over again, people have this like perspective that you just have
to kill weak people.
And it just just so evil.
I don't know.
It was just like, it is for me.
It is like a flawed logic.
And I mean, look, they're bad bad guys.
So they're not half the best.
But like, I would be like, to me, if you think people are the weakest link, let their

(01:00:16):
messy kill them, like if they're the weakest link, they will kill themselves, like let them
kill themselves.
Like, you know, I don't know.
I think the problem with this college is there was a huge lack of alcohol really to let
the kids just put their minds into other places.
Another activities.
Yeah.
No, that is definitely true.

(01:00:37):
I didn't hear of them partaking in literally anything fun other than having sex.
Yeah, I was happy about the sex.
It was good.
I think I was, I was feeling very YA up until the sex scenes.
And then I was like, okay, this is not YA.
These are like much more graphic than you would get in YA.

(01:00:59):
I'll tell you, this is my favorite type of book to read, which is,
really, really easy to read.
And then there's some good sex.
Like, that is a dream scenario that you don't often get because when you're targeting older

(01:01:21):
audiences, sometimes like, oh, this is such a slog to get through.
Yeah.
When you have this like simple little setup, you know, upfront everyone's age.
So you don't have to feel bad about it at any point.
Oh my God.
It's just nice.
What was your, what was the hottest scene in your opinion?

(01:01:42):
I know which one is mine, but I want to hear what you guys think was the hottest scene.
Oh my God.
Okay.
Is it, I mean, is it when you go down on her?
Because I liked that.
No, no.
No, or I mean, that can be for you, but for me, it was the scene when he was like teaching

(01:02:08):
her a lesson on the mat and he like took all of her knives away from her, but like was
like also like, Adam, like up, up against him.
It was like talking in her ear, like just to her.
It was like, that was, that was pretty awesome.
I got goosebumps.
Just you reminded me of that scene?
No.

(01:02:28):
I hate that.
All right.
Bye.
Um, from me, obviously, it was, it was the Violet Dane Kiss.
Obviously.
Hot as hell.
There you go.
That's, she's gonna, what, mark my word.
She's coming back around to know.
Oh my God.

(01:02:49):
If she does, I'm throwing the books away.
I mean, honestly, they got, I will say Zaden, her God together, so quick.
And I've heard their, their five books in the series.
So obviously they do have to be pulled apart for some of them if they're, if they're end
game because it just, you can't have them together the whole time.
So I don't think it is crazy that somehow Dane would make her picture another guy to

(01:03:10):
be looked in because I would like watch it be Dane.
It could have been Liam.
It could have been Liam.
It could have been Liam.
Did he die?
I don't even.
He did.
He did die and that's, that's sad because he was a good character.
He was like the one.
Once they, Violet paired or bonded with Taren and it, that who is Segal's mate and Segal

(01:03:33):
is Zaden's dragon.
I think.
I was like, I can't have her killed if she gets killed.
I might die or whatever the logic was.
And so she basically, he got his, his boy Liam to like guard her all the time and follow
her everywhere.
But Liam was like, he was fun.
He was cool.
I liked Liam.
I, they could have hooked up.

(01:03:54):
I would have been into them hooking up as well.
I would have really liked that.
I, and I, you know what else?
I didn't mention this because this was like a, it was set up to be like, we all fuck a
lot.
I did like, and maybe this is it being not YA.
But I did like that it wasn't like, she's a virgin.
There are somebody's virgin all this means we've had sex.
So now we must be together forever.

(01:04:16):
I don't feel like that.
Even though they get, did get super connected after fucking, but I think, I, I, I, I,
I like that that it wasn't like a, oh, this is a big deal because I've never fuck before.
It was just like a big deal because they really are into each other.
Yeah.
I agree.
A hundred percent.

(01:04:37):
It's just nice for the two people like 50 shades of gray.
These are adults.
They've done it before.
They'll do it again.
Good for them.
I'd like to know more about the dragon courtship ritual personally like, I would too.
You know, do, do they have sex outside of the bonds of, of marriage?

(01:04:58):
Mm-hmm.
And it, and it, well, there's a lot.
So there's a whole dragon world that we don't know, but they have their own society, their
own like rituals and rules.
And yeah, I, I feel like that, that's, that is a space that she has to play in for future
books that I would be interested to know more about.
Oh, I would be an entire book from the perspective of the dragons.

(01:05:22):
Now I, too, I loved the dragon pieces.
The one thing I will say is, I was thankful that the, like, we know that the dragons were
having sex because of their emotions, but I am thankful that it wasn't like, like, graphically
described to us the manner in which they were having sex because that, like, they have,

(01:05:48):
like, oh, the dragons have duck penises.
So their corks, true shape, you're like, well, that, that wasn't a part of it.
Yeah.
It also wasn't described, like, I guess, 99% of animal kingdom sexes, which is basically the
male of the species is raping the female of the species.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I would say smart to stay away from that.

(01:06:08):
Yeah, I agree.
Yeah, I agree.
I agree.
Which is so good for them.
So good for those two dragons.
I, but it was like about their emotions.
While they were fucking not be like her physical act of it.
I did, okay, I did think that the character, like, Taren, like, he was, like, homogeneely

(01:06:29):
whatever he was kind of sarcastic.
He would be like, not now, bitch.
He wouldn't say that, but like it, like, I gave that vibe when he was talking in her head,
but I have to say it also, if you think of him as like an older man to be stuck in the
head, it felt like he was like trapped in the head of a 20-year-old girl.
I'm like, oh, that's a hell.
That is a hell.

(01:06:50):
And I'm so sorry for this drag.
Like I would love to hear more of him being like Jesus Christ.
Like, oh, my God.
I kind of loved their connection.
I felt like it was everybody reveres dragons so much in this world and the way that she talks
to them is like their, her BFF slash, she's a whiny teenager and they're a parent.

(01:07:11):
Like it's, I don't know.
I think it's so funny, but one of my favorite Taren lines was she was like, what does that mean?
And he was like, the best I can translate it is you'd say for fuck's sake.
Oh, I liked it.
What about, one thing we even talked about is like the representation in this book because

(01:07:36):
there was actually, I mean a lot of it, we mentioned a little bit that obviously they have
Zaden as a person of color and then they, she, Violet has a disability.
There was also like a few other things.
Oh, like her friend, what's her friend's name?
Rizet Riannin?
Riannin.
Yeah.

(01:07:57):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, she's a friend who got the shoe during the parapet challenge.
Oh, sorry, the shoe during the parapet challenge because like in this world, if you have slippery
shoes, you don't deserve to be in the work college, which is so funny.
Anyway.
But she's like, she might be, she might have been by, I wasn't, whatever.
She was hooking up with a girl that was like just casually mentioned.

(01:08:18):
The friend Jenny, no, that's not right, just Jacenia, who was in the library, she's a scribe,
she was signing.
So she clearly also has a disability.
And there was, I think there was a character that is, they then pronouns.
And although I don't remember that, I read somebody pointing it out.

(01:08:42):
So I guess I'm going to point it out.
But she, I think that's, I didn't catch that in my two times audience.
Yeah, yeah, maybe I was a bit too, too fast.
But I, I guess, I think that is pretty, I think she did a pretty good job at putting on
that stuff then.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And maybe I'll like circle back, I guess a little to what we were saying earlier is like,

(01:09:08):
all of those things were not really the point of those characters, which I think is
really nice.
And so with her little like fragility, that also wasn't the point of her character necessarily.
Like, you know, we knew about it, but it, it didn't drive literally everything about
her.
Or, I mean, I would even go so far as to affect her or her character in any way.

(01:09:32):
And you know, that's really cool when you can do that as an author.
John, that's in sarcastic.
What?
No.
It does, but I am being sincere.
I think it's really cool that they set her up to have a disability and she could just
pick and choose when she was affected by it, you know, that's fair.
That's fair.

(01:09:52):
But she like has to navigate the world.
And okay, if it is similar to what the author has, like you can do most things adaptively,
depending on like the level of what you have, I was googling and a lot of celebrities have

(01:10:13):
this condition, Halsey, Evie Ottley, Chamelej Amille.
I know.
It makes it, I would seem like it's not that, or it's super common, or you're like, what is
it exactly?
If somebody, like, what, but whatever.
Yeah.
I think it causes a lot of pain to people.
Yeah.

(01:10:33):
I think it's hard to, yeah, it does, I guess, it's an invisible disability for many.
But yeah, I do agree that I was kind of like, I felt like the author just like dropped it
completely.
I think it should have been used more.
All right.
I think let's take a quick commercial break and we come back.

(01:10:53):
We can do a quick answer as the author hit any other points.
We're, you know, we don't want to miss.
So we'll be right back.
And we're back.

(01:11:20):
Okay.
Do you guys want to do an answer as the author?
Oh, I'm so excited to have one.
Yeah.
Yes, I would love.
Okay.
This is, I want you guys.
According to Rebecca, I want you to match or say what Taylor Swift album is represented

(01:11:40):
by Dane, Violet and Zaden.
Okay.
I think I have to go first because Sabrina is so equipped to answer this question.
I don't know.
Oh my god.
I wish I had more time to think about this.
All right.
Okay.

(01:12:01):
Rebecca, so your main characters, Violet, Zaden, Dane, if you, I know you're Swiftie.
So if you could, yes, I've seen her in the, the US and New York City.
I've seen her in Paris and I've seen her in London.
Oh, I'm sorry.
That's Sabrina.
Okay.
Wow.
I know you like wrote a lot of this book while listening to Taylor.

(01:12:26):
So I guess I just want to know which album corresponds with each of your main characters.
Yes.
Well, I am quite as Swiftie.
So of course, I don't know what's happened to my voice.
Violet is midnight.
Okay.
And I hope I'm saying all these albums correctly.

(01:12:48):
I know them well.
Of course, Dane is folklore.
Okay.
And Zaden.
Why?
Why?
Because that is another album that I know the title of.
Okay.
Okay.
And Zaden, of course, is from the album Miss Americana.

(01:13:17):
Am I breaking it?
Okay.
And those are three Taylor Swift albums and I name them without any difficulty.
What?
So ever.
Excellent.
I think I'm going to now ask Sada Rebecca who I think we'll be able to give more of an answer.
Oh, no.
Rebecca, which album goes with which of the three main characters?

(01:13:39):
Dane, Violet, Zaden.
Well, one great question.
I'm laughing.
I always thought that Miss Americana and the heartbreak kid was an album, but it's not.
No, but I can move past that.

(01:14:02):
I'm a professional and I'm chill.
Okay.
Okay.
So I feel like I know the answer because I'm the author.
And here's the thing is if I were answering this question right now in 2024, my answer

(01:14:24):
might be different, right?
Because so many more albums have come out and I can connect my characters to them.
But since I wrote this book a little while ago, I think that I'm going to have to say that
Violet represents speak now.

(01:14:45):
Because that's the album that Taylor really wrote all of herself when people were saying
that she couldn't possibly have been writing her albums.
And so she was like, you know what, screw you.
I'm going to write all the songs on my album.
And I feel like the story is Violet speak now moment.

(01:15:08):
It's her speaking loud and that.
I think that Zaden is obviously reputation.
He's the bad boy.
He's got a big reputation, big reputation.
But you know, maybe there's more to him than you're going to see.
And then unfortunately, I guess Dane is going to be Scooters version of what's Taylor Swift's

(01:15:41):
worst album, hard to pick because Taylor Swift does no wrong.
But I'm going to have to say it's probably the debut album, you know, when she was a kid.
And she didn't, you know, she hadn't really come into her own yet.
But again, I have to emphasize it, Scooters version because Dane sucks.

(01:16:02):
Sabrina, I have to say, very good.
Oh my god.
I had to use closer.
No.
Sabrina was.
I actually think Sabrina's answers was better than Rebecca's because, but she did agree
with you on to she said also that Zaden is reputation.
And yeah, so the day is debut.

(01:16:25):
So amazing.
Violet.
Wait, can I guess, can I guess?
Okay.
Is it okay?
I'm going to guess.
Actually, I don't know.
I think it's okay.
She said, Violet is folklore into midnight.

(01:16:46):
That's what she claimed Violet is.
But I assume that midnight was released too late for, because it came out in 2022 and I
thought she would have already been well underway of writing this book.
But if I didn't mention that she wrote this book in two and a half months, that is wild.

(01:17:08):
So, but I would have guessed midnight's, which is what?
John August, right?
Yes, I don't remember who she guessed that for, but because I was barely.
Wow.
Cool.
So that was so fun and it was definitely a question for everyone here in the cast.

(01:17:29):
I actually really struggled because I felt like I had a lot to.
Yeah, on the line.
Yeah.
I got it.
Is there anything else that you guys feel like we haven't talked about?
We have to talk about it.
We have to.
Because we didn't really talk about the ending or the big twist at the end.
The ending?

(01:17:50):
You guys want to talk about the beginning?
Yeah.
We also never said what Danes' power is or what Violet power is.
No, Danes' power is.
We didn't say Danes.
Sorry.
I meant Satan.
I meant Satan.
We didn't say Satan.
He's his shadows, which kind of sounds dumb, but really he can take the sh-
All the shadows and make them like kill you.
It's also kind of cool.

(01:18:12):
I thought.
It is wild.
I don't understand physically how a shadow kills you, but I was cool.
I was like, yeah, sure.
She obviously opposite of shadow is lightning.
I do not like her power, but it was funny when they were fucking and she was burning everything
down.
That was charming.
I thought it was pretty good.
And she can stop time with Andarna.

(01:18:34):
But that's the one.
She's a baby.
It's like that she's going to lose that ability once Andarna gets older.
No.
What I understood was, so the reason babies don't bond is because they inadvertently, instead
of giving you your own power and amplifying it through them, they inadvertently transfer
their full power to you.

(01:18:56):
And so that's why.
So she took advantage of Andarna, basically.
Yeah.
This is a huge problem.
She's a beauty dragon.
Well, Andarna did it.
Okay.
But I don't know if the baby she shouldn't know better.
This is actually fucked down.
I think this is a really good point.
Yeah.
Really awful.
Really awful.
Anyway.

(01:19:17):
Yeah.
So we get to the end and it's all like they're fully fucking and they have their playing
like war games or something.
It's some stupid college thing where it's just like, we're pretending we're at war.
Yeah.
We played flip cup guys.
So I don't know.
So military college, some sort of maybe you understand this, but then she, Dane tries

(01:19:41):
to get her to come and be like part of his mission, but she's like, nah, I'm going to
stick with my boy and it ends up being Zaden her and then like all the other people, kids
of the rebellion in one place and then please someone else explain why I just get, get
blurry.
I mean, I can, but I don't have like the best, basically like everyone's, it's a big

(01:20:06):
action scene and a lot of people die.
Liam dies.
Yeah.
Like they think they're, it's just going to be a game, but it ends up they actually get attacked
and we find out that the Griffin writers are good people and that like the bird, the
bird, yeah, the bird man that Zane's working with the bird people and it's like a big

(01:20:30):
reveal and they are working together against, oh my God, I can't even remember what is
the big bad that set up at the end?
Don't remember.
It's that the community has been lied to.
Right.
There are these creatures that are like it is basically a human who, the only way you can

(01:20:55):
get magic is through bonding with I guess like a Griffin or a dragon, but they get powers
because they sell their soul and then they become evil with, and with power and that's
some, that's the big bad and, but for some reason it's been kept a secret by, by mommy

(01:21:19):
and everything and then the bigger, the bigger, the very, very end after she nearly dies.
Well, they're, I'll just give the very small set up and I got the reveal.
She's like, she's getting hit everywhere and she keeps hearing this voice.
She was like, has some guys voice?
Maybe it's Bode, a Bode a character we have no clue who this is.

(01:21:42):
I mean, we've heard of him, but like he's nothing.
She keeps me like, maybe that's Bode, I'm like, why, why are you obsessed with who this
might be?
Violet.
And she's like, in a coma for three days and then he was more than three days.
I feel like and Darna got big in that time.
So, but anyway, and then she wakes up and we find out that it's Brennan who we believe

(01:22:05):
is dead.
Her brother.
Her brother.
But he is actually a leader of the resistance.
He was not killed by his father.
So that must have been some sort of lie.
So big deal.
And so I probably would have tried to find a way to communicate that to the dad before
he died.
He didn't actually know.
Hey, we don't know.
Maybe the dad's in the resistance too or something.

(01:22:26):
I was thinking that the dad's a divorce, you know.
Why are we together?
What are we together for?
We're both on opposite sides of this war right now.
I don't know why we're pretending.
We love each other.
Well, divorces are really expensive, Sarah.
That's true.
Also, they don't know how to do anything in this society.
How would they know how to get divorced?
Yeah.

(01:22:47):
There's a lot more going on behind the scenes.
It's like huge.
And then also, Zaden has like his own, like, city that's being rebuilt that he somehow is
funding.
I'm like, I don't know where he has all this money and then has all the time, but it's also
something that's been happening.
Sure.

(01:23:07):
He inherited some stuff when his parents were slaughtered.
I don't know.
Don't you think when they were slaughtered, they were there.
I wouldn't think they'd get to keep that.
Yeah.
You slaughtering someone, I would take their money.
Yeah, yeah.
Why not?
I think it's like you rape and you pillage.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, so I don't know.

(01:23:29):
Just looking at my notes, there's a lot of striding in the distance.
What are some terms?
What are some things?
I mean, a lot about the scars.
Oh my god, wait, I have to share this.
At one point, Mike did listen in.
And he thought they weren't saying Zaden.
He thought they were saying Satan.

(01:23:49):
So he was like, it was like a hot Satan character, which I was like, not wrong.
Not so far off.
And he couldn't stop laughing about the unrelenting angles of his face.
And that also, also, I guess he was there during a sex scene and where they got called to
action.
And he thought it was funny that he had to head into battle with a erection.

(01:24:13):
I thought those were exciting.
That is funny.
I had a recent experience with unrelenting angles of my face.
I was in Salem and we got family portraits taken as witches and they lit us from below and
they took the pictures from below.
That's wild.
Cool.
What did they look at?
What kind of angles?

(01:24:33):
Well, I was insistent that we got willow in the picture as well.
Okay.
So that probably that's going to complicate it.
Yeah.
They could do it from above though.
Yeah.
They were other options, but you know, fun.
Cool.
So I have two things in my notes that I wanted to say.
Yeah.
One is the line, panic fists my heart.

(01:24:57):
Loved that.
And then the other thing is I just wrote down such a line.
I loved it.
The other thing is, oh wait.
Okay.
Well, then I have a question.
The other thing is I have in my notes, I didn't even believe that Dane and Violet were friends.

(01:25:18):
Let alone potential lovers.
Yeah.
I didn't, they're French.
Like if that were my friend, I would be like buzz off loser.
But I agree.
I agree.
It didn't feel like that.
I agree.
It never seemed like that to someone.
You are everyone's friend.
Well, that's because I don't know anybody like Dane.
Oh my god.
Oh wait.

(01:25:38):
You know what was also funny at the beginning, Mira?
She was like a great dragon rider herself when she was like, oh no, I don't want Violet
to die.
She's going to die.
And then she was like, but also don't fucking aim the older boys.
Yes.
Like what advice to your, yeah, I love it.
But I percentage of dying, but you're telling her not to fuck the older boys.

(01:26:00):
It did lay the groundwork that she would exclusively be fucking older.
I wrote in my notes, everyone including me period take
birth control.
What could that mean?
Everyone including me.
Oh, maybe she they made, they mentioned birth control at some point.
I feel like there was some mention that she was on something or.

(01:26:23):
Oh, I mean, sorry.
She's blurry.
Sorry.
I do remember it was supposed to say everyone including men takes birth control.
And that was something I love.
Oh, that is nice.
The men and the women were all taken a pill to make sure that like it was birth control.
It wasn't just the woman's responsibility.

(01:26:45):
Yeah.
Yeah, like that.
Yeah, that is nice.
Everyone including me.
Lift her chin, striding into distance, ticking their jaw.
Sorry, just wrote down some terms that they were used a lot.
But you know, I mean, there's a lot.

(01:27:06):
We got to see if we go through the language in this.
It is very juvenile.
I have heard the author say that was on a purpose because she wanted it to be accessible.
I, you know what, fine.
You know what?
I set a point and you're like, well, I guess she was right.
Look how many people read the fucking book.
It was very accessible.
That's true.

(01:27:26):
So I will say like if I were trying to learn another language, for example, and I it's
like, I don't just want to read the little prints in French, right?
Like, I want to read people fucking in this other language.
It makes it more exciting to learn the words.
Yeah.
And like as someone who's spoken English my whole life, like, I want to read a book that

(01:27:50):
was specifically written for people for whom English is a second language, simple words.
I don't want to be challenged in any way.
It is very true.
I think.
I again, this red white name is crazy.
They're like very Scottish.
I all the dragon lanes so funny.

(01:28:11):
Sigeil is like, sighal, like it sounds like, is this an evil character?
Because it sounds like your referencing Nazis.
But I guess not.
I think they're like, yeah, using heavily Scottish, soundy names, you know?
You know what?

(01:28:34):
It was a real mashup of things.
I think if you read anything that's like middle earth fantasy, there's a lot in this that
would feel very off or disturbing.
But if you went into a being like, I want a romance, like a YA romance with dragons, then this
is, that would be accurate.
That's what this was.
And what if you--

(01:28:54):
Which is now what I want to read that.
Hmm.
Well, no, no, no.
I don't know who you are then.
Who is--
Yeah.
Who would say that?
Asking for a friend, Clara.
Who's there?
Oh, Clara, yeah.
Does anybody know what--
With Clara's thoughts, are we going to have to--
Let's hit it up.

(01:29:15):
Next up.
Yeah, we'll try to get her to have the parts.
And if she read it.
Yeah, let's quiz her.
Yeah.
Hey, that was a pretty crazy ending, right, Clara?
With that whole thing.
I will say when that ending happened.
So Megan, I had to diverge our paths and listen separately because I needed to listen at two

(01:29:37):
times speed and Megan needed to listen at 1.5, actually.
I really introduced her into a whole new world.
But I was in the shower and she screamed, a blood-curdling screamer.
No.
I'm sorry, cat carting away with an air pot.

(01:29:58):
She screamed and blood-curdling screamer.
She was like, "Friend, answer high!"
But I was like, "Ah, you broke the sound barrier."
I did not find that, like a surprising twist.
I feel like you're saying it felt a little bit--
I think almost everything that was like a twist here felt telegraphed.

(01:30:20):
I didn't think we would--
I thought that was coming.
I didn't think we would find out this book.
Fair.
Yeah, fair.
I guess.
Yeah.
I didn't either, but I also didn't think that they would end up together.
Oh, at the end, they tried to do a whole thing where even though they had been fucking

(01:30:41):
furiously and he was obviously a good guy, she was like, "You lied to me about that you're
a good, good guy leading the rebellion."
And she was like, "So we're over."
It's like, "And nobody believes you, sweetheart."
No, nobody believes you.
Cute though.
Cute though, yeah.
We'll say.
Anyway, yeah, I'll probably read the next one.

(01:31:02):
Do you guys want to do--
What the fuck is next, hate rates?
We like to do hate rates.
We like to do a thing called Little Fucker.
Oh, before hate rates, we do Little Fucker.
Oh, we do hate.
We do little fucker.
Okay, okay, okay.
We do something that's like hero of the cast.
Is that a new thing you're trying to make us do?

(01:31:23):
Is it like little princess?
Oh, yeah, we did little princess.
Oh, wait.
Oh, was this not--
Oh, this was the last episode I wasn't in.
Yeah, we were like, "We're doing a new, wild pony."
We're not in the upper mesh.
That's why, yeah, okay, I--
And the only law with little princesses that you have to be in the original little princess
to qualify.
So--

(01:31:44):
Okay.
But as long as we all understand the rules.
Right.
Hate rate.
Mm-hmm.
Wait, don't we have to do five star reviews?
All right, I'm going to read a five star review from Iman.
And she says, "If y'all see me on the news tomorrow, it's because I broke into this author's

(01:32:08):
house and tried to steal the manuscript for the sequel.
I can't even begin to describe the attachment love I have for this book and its characters.
It's one of my favorite books of all time now.
The author really wrote the most heart-wrenching, emotionally loaded appetite, terminating sentences
and said, "Deal with it."
To put it in a few words, this new adult fantasy romance book is set at war college.
There's dragons.

(01:32:28):
There's two main opposing sides that hate one another.
Our female main character, for longing to one, and our male main character belonging
to the other, I think you can see where this is going wrong because you could have 30
guns pointing at my head and I still wouldn't have predicted that last sentence.
All I pray matter would cover the wall behind me, five stars.

(01:32:48):
All right, I got one from Claudia Talks film, five stars, fuck it.
Let's give it five stars.
Oh my God.
Okay.
I have two from Akira.

(01:33:10):
And number one, read from May 2023, five stars.
All caps.
To anyone listening, you need to go into this book as blind as possible.
I promise it's going to enhance the experience.
Tenfold, all you need to know is that this will be your new favorite book forever, heart.

(01:33:30):
But for everyone else who needs to know, very long description of the book.
And it, Violet is me, I am Violet, we are one.
Zaden is such a seductive menace, but he's my precious seductive menace.

(01:33:51):
I want to encourage everyone to look up this review because it's so good and has so many
twists and turns.
But then, okay, number two, and I was wrong, it's three.
Number two, reread August of 2023, five stars.
Miss Yarros, hit me up if you run out of creative ways to carry out dainty boys, death

(01:34:12):
trope.
I've got some amazing ideas.
I'll do you and everyone proud, hard, hard, hard.
Also everything from my first review still stands, smiley face, crown, also part two, yes.
Yes, the ending still hurt worse than the second time around, little gun emojis.
Sorry, dainty.

(01:34:33):
Dainty boys, death trope.
I have not heard of that trope.
No, be neither, but wait.
reread number three, November of 2023.
These are like two months apart, fourth wing.
Now, my favorite hello and my hardest goodbye.
That's all, that's all it is.

(01:34:54):
IQRA posted June 28th, 2024.
Okay.
Wow.
So everybody, take a look.
I think it's a very good review.
It's a good review.
I really like it.
I don't know why, but that just ruined me of what my, the like hottest line I thought the
whole thing was when the amber and sent a bunch of people to murder, violent, violent,

(01:35:18):
violent, violent, and obviously Zaden showed up and he's like, you guys aren't allowed
to do that.
I want to murder you all.
And she said something like, yeah, I'm fucking going to mess it up, but something like,
she showed you mercy.
That's not a flaw I possess.
And then he just murdered them.
I really enjoyed that.

(01:35:39):
But also very funny that like, just them out, you're allowed to murder other people at this
college.
But not all the time.
They'll get you on it sometime.
Sometimes you really have to do it, but you have to know when it's important.
Don't sleep.
Okay.
You guys ready for hate rates?
Yeah.
I'm so ready.

(01:36:00):
Okay.
Are you ready?
Yeah.
Five stars.
Okay.
Well, that blew me away.
That blew me away too.
One reason and one reason alone.
It is the existence of the featherweight dragon.
It is the cutest, best, nicest thing I have ever read in any book ever.

(01:36:25):
It hurts me greatly that it's not a part of my life that I can't ever rescue one from
an animal shelter.
Yep.
That I cannot bond with one.
And in fact, I'm going to take it down a peg just for, I'm going to give it a four for
introducing this idea to me and never letting me have what could be the best thing in my

(01:36:46):
life.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's it.
Wow.
Interesting.
And I feel like I like this book for opposite reasons of John.
Yeah.
For me, it was the bad boy.
It was the fucking, um, yeah, like some of the fighting too.

(01:37:08):
I think this, yeah, like we said, this book went down stupid easy law.
It like was so quick and easy to get through.
Um, yeah, a lot of stuff didn't make any goddamn sense in it.
Um, so much of it didn't.
But I feel like, you know, I'm, I like trash TV, you know, there's things all gobbled down

(01:37:29):
and I know they're not like, it's not elevated literature.
I mean, I love my HBO, you know, true detective shit, but I also, I also elevated literature.
Yeah.
I'm just like a TV.
I'm comparing it now.
I'm going to be in the list.
I'm saying this is like reality TV.
This is like, I just watched this.

(01:37:51):
This is why I just watched it.
Secret lives in mortmants.
This feels like that where you're like, and on you do anything you go and then you go
it, go through it so fast and you're just like, yeah, all right.
That was great.
Um, I know people gave it to us because they wanted us to rail on it.
I feel like we did.
I feel like we ripped it apart and we were just really railed in a consensual way.

(01:38:14):
Yeah.
We ran in a consensual way and then we were just like, you know what?
I enjoyed the railing and I enjoyed the reading.
And that's where I am on it.
I'm going to give this a 4.5 out of 5.
Wow.
I, okay, I had to do that because just I'm thinking later in the season and I have a suspicion
there's going to be another 5.
Oh my god.

(01:38:35):
For me.
Okay.
I'm just trying to, you know, I don't, I feel like I can't start with a 5 out of 5.
But if I need to later, I'll reevaluate that.
But it's a 4.5 out of 5 for me.
Okay.
Sarah, you said that you liked it for the opposite reasons of Johnna and I liked it for the

(01:38:55):
same reasons as both of you.
Throw it all in the cart.
This book was made for me.
They might as well have the power of the secret in here.
I'm giving it a 100 out of 5.
I love different than I love it.
Oh, love it when we go past the traditional 5 out of 5.

(01:39:17):
Very fun, very fun to do average of.
Yeah, and I just, I mean, hopefully when I would clear a thought of it, I'm just going to
assume she also would give it a 5 out of 5.
I think she'd like that if I assume that.
I think that's fair to say.
I think we all know she would give it as your out of 5.
We all know this.

(01:39:37):
But I know I could see her saying she would have liked to get me to Darner.
Oh, she could like it for the animal part of it.
That could be attractive to her as well.
The animal does kind of get hurt a little and she might not like that.
Yeah, it's, but I think she would have said something like it made me feel smart 5 out of

(01:39:58):
5.
That's, that's a Clara high rating.
That's when she gives high ratings when things make her feel smarter than them.
Yeah.
She doesn't advertise it, but I think she likes the fucking books.
Yeah.
But I don't think she would appreciate that the author said, I wrote this book so all
the simple people could read it.

(01:40:18):
That would not make Clara feel smart.
It would make her feel angry.
Oh, okay, fair, fair.
All right.
Okay, you guys ready for a little fucker of the cast?
Yes.
Yeah.
Can I go off cast?
I would think you had doing the same.
Okay.
I'm going to reach out into the universe and I'm going to make Jeff Bezos, my little

(01:40:40):
fucker.
Interesting.
Um, I ordered a splitter, a microphone splitter that was to arrive on Saturday.
Had we received this splitter, I'd be sitting in Sabrina's apartment right now eating a
broccoli soup that she had promised me.
Oh, I was to bring wine.
And instead, I've spent the last two hours staring at the same red light turned from red

(01:41:06):
to green.
And I remember one thousand times while people in scooters rode by me.
I don't like that.
No.
And that is something that Jeff Bezos did to me by not delivering my splitter when he said
he would deliver it.
I don't have many.
Yeah.
You don't know.
All right.
All right.
I guess that works.

(01:41:27):
That fits.
Okay.
Thank you.
I'm going to make Andarna my little fucker of the cast because how fucking dare you.
Yeah, because she is little and I just think she is a little fucker because like in the book
she's like came in there and like bonded when everyone's like get out of here.

(01:41:49):
What are you doing here?
And she's such a little fucker.
She showed up and then like, Oh, she file it was bonding with another dragon.
She's like me too.
And it's like you're such a little fucker.
Get out of here.
And then she's like, you know, can't fly.
He keep up with them.
I don't know.
She just had little fucker written all over.
So and Donna for me.
Okay.

(01:42:09):
Well, obviously it's got to be Sarah for me now.
Yeah.
And I was previously at a loss.
So, you know, but you coming down and Darni you coming at me.
And as the only person actually here, it is you.
It is.
It is officially little fucker.
I feel like it's me and Darni and Jeff Pezos.

(01:42:30):
It's, you know, it's not the little fucker.
It's not in Darni and it's never going to be in Darni.
I don't know.
It's not the best, Claire.
What's that?
It's not the thing I said was the best thing in my life.
Yeah.
It's crazy to me that you guys liked and tarted that much.
It did like her so much.
Oh my God.
Her voice was so annoying.

(01:42:52):
Oh, anyway.
All right.
All right.
Okay.
We're doing little princess.
I want to remind everyone that Sarah is not eligible.
She was not a member of the original princess club.
I don't like this club.
So it's literally you're just you're telling me right now the rules are John or
Sabrina or the little princess.
Or I'm being told.
Listen, it could be not to be a dane.
What's the rules are the rules?

(01:43:14):
The rules are the rules.
Yeah, that's what I've had to say.
I don't, I don't think so.
I'm a Zaden, so I'm not going to follow.
So you're just, you're refusing to do a segment that Sabrina and I worked really hard
on it.
Yeah, you worked, yeah, you even put it in the outline.
Cool.
Well, guess what?
The next time you want to do about the author, I'm just going to say, oh no, we
can't this episode.

(01:43:36):
I don't want to.
All right.
All right.
Not a problem.
It would be a problem for you and you know it.
You know that it would make you very angry.
You know that you know that the little informational fact gathering parts are one of your
favorite parts of the episode.
So this is your favorite.
All right, you know it fine.
I want to hear what your little princesses are.

(01:43:58):
Let's please share why this is.
I would like to know why this is just such a great segment.
That we should be including it.
Please go ahead.
Okay.
Well, it's me because I was so brave and I sat out of my car and even though it's scary
and it's out at night and there are animals that could get me.

(01:44:22):
I did it and that's something that you know it would take really royal blood to be able
to do.
And I'm going to vote for Andana.
Officially an original member of the little princess group.
She was there.

(01:44:43):
No, I was going to I was going to actually vote for a drama for the same reason.
Okay.
I do think the situation that you found yourself in this evening could have easily been like
a you know what?
It's not happening.
I'm not going to do it.
And you martyred yourself as you do and such a princess thing to do.

(01:45:06):
There you are.
Interesting.
I'm going to take this perspective from Dona's daughter's perspective.
Okay.
And I'm going to go with Dona being a little princess because oh look I'm a little princess.
I have to have a quiet.
I have to I need my own space.
I'm a little princess.
Oh, I don't like loud noises.

(01:45:28):
I'm a little princess.
So it's John.
Okay.
Well, what I just heard was it's unanimous.
I'm a princess.
And Sarah, if not the little fucker at least sharing the title.
So all right.
Great.
I can walk away.
Happy with that.
I can sleep at night.
Can you?
Yeah.
I definitely.

(01:45:49):
I'm going to suffer from my baby wakes me up.
Yeah.
Sure.
Okay.
Fair enough.
I feel bad for you both because you look really beautiful both of you this episode.
It would have been a really great one.
You both look so good.
You get my lighting.
Okay.
You really did.
And it would be a great one to be able to like put on TikTok or you know share a clip

(01:46:09):
of and because I'm a monstrous ogre sitting in some of my darkness.
Mm hmm.
We can never think there's a way to edit you out.
Yeah.
We're used to.
We all picture.
Yeah.
We'll do AI.
I think AI could get you in.
But John would look like talking.
We can definitely do it.
We'll figure it out.

(01:46:29):
Sure.
Okay.
Guys, what's our book next episode?
John?
I can tell you.
I'm not excited about it.
Next episode, ladies, our book is, is it Hillbilly Alleygy?
Already.
Yes, it is.
Yike.
Okay.

(01:46:50):
It's Hillbilly Alleygy by JD.
We're really excited about it.
The truth is, we want to get it in now while we can while it's still going to be relevant
to be honest.
Just.
I feel like this is, I'm very scared that we are secreting something with this pick, but
you know, it's a little bit.

(01:47:11):
So we can remove it from the list, you know?
Well, we can't remove it.
We can remove it.
We already made a little post in the picture.
Somebody already read it.
I have already read it.
I had read it previously, so I guess I'll have to admit that very embarrassed.
I was one of those that were taken in by it in 2016.
How could I know?
How could I know?

(01:47:32):
How could I know?
Well, you, you reading retrospect certainly.
You could know, but we didn't want to know at that time, I think.
There's so much we didn't want to know.
We didn't want to know.
All right.
So that's next episode.
Please check us out on Patreon.
Become a patron.
We're giving our patrons episodes, the commercial free apps, baby.

(01:47:55):
We got bonus content coming out on our socials.
We have a very cool new editor, social media manager, Blake, who's helping us out.
So I mean, just watch out for the content, okay?
It's going to be more than usual.
Yeah.
You're going to have content.

(01:48:16):
Three's and four's of more.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Again, I guess I also want to say sorry, we took such a long break.
Yeah.
Too many babies.
We didn't want to take the break.
It was summer.
It was summer.
Well, for some of us it was just summer.
And Paris.
Yeah.
Summer.
That's different reasons again.
I'd be able to record, but yeah, we're okay.

(01:48:38):
Can I say something really important before we sign off in this actually is important to
me?
I really don't make fun of me.
This is important to me.
We don't want the world to think in any way that I don't think debut is a good album.
I struggled.
It is, they're all my favorite album and it is just currently my not number one favorite

(01:49:04):
and also because Dan was a friend from childhood debut is childhood.
Anyway, Taylor Swift is amazing.
I do think I made it clear with like its scooters version.
And I don't even want to call it that.
I want to call it non-tailors version.
So yeah, I have a lot of regrets.
Don't say his name.
Exactly.
He gets no credit.

(01:49:24):
Fuck him.
Yeah.
I said it.
Yeah.
Obviously, I said it.
Like John, how much do you understand what Sabrina saying right now?
Honestly when she interrupted and said in all seriousness, I do, I want to say something
before we end the episode.
I thought perhaps it would be related to the quick moment we touched on one of the most

(01:49:49):
boilingly contentious and horrific things happening in the world right now, which is
the Israel-Palestine conflict that maybe she'd want to just go back and...
We did promise it.
So something about that.
But it wasn't related to that at all.
And it was just to make sure that Taylor, should she be...

(01:50:11):
Maybe listening doesn't feel slighted.
Well, no.
Once we suggested that debut was...
It's not just for Taylor.
It's for the world to know where I speak.
Yes, of course, of course.
And you're with Taylor.
Yes.
And John, a great point.
I think we're going to have to table the Israel-Palestine conversation.

(01:50:32):
I know everyone's like really wants to hear all of our hot takes.
But like definitely we'll try to include it next episode.
We definitely promise to include it.
I'm going to try him in again and this isn't about Taylor Swift.
It is to say that I'm not allowing this to be a recurring bit this season.

(01:50:53):
Just so you guys know, you'll have to see it.
I think we're going to be able to...
I think I'll be a little bit back in.
First person to bring it up, little fucker.
Yeah.
Well, Sarah is getting for little fucker all season after the comment on the sweetest
little dragon that I've ever known.

(01:51:15):
Let's just say it's been noted and it will be remembered.
Yeah, all right.
Fair enough.
You know?
I was waiting for it in "Darner Murder" and I'm still waiting for it.
Don't say stuff like that.
Don't say stuff like that.
We'll see you guys next time.
We'll see you next time, guys.

(01:51:37):
Bye!
Bye!
Bye!
Bye!
Bye!
Bye!
Bye!
(upbeat music)

I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
