Bajo el sistema del antiguo pacto, la función principal del sumo-sacerdote era presentar ofrendas y sacrificios a favor del pueblo. Especialmente importante era su ministerio en el día de expiación cuando entraba en el lugar santísimo. Por lo tanto, como se nos dice aquí, para ser un sumo sacerdote, era necesario tener algo que ofrecer. Jamás podría entrar en la presencia de Dios con las manos vacías. Ahora bien, el punto de Hebreos es que Cristo es nuestro Sumo Sacerdote según el orden de Melquisedec. Como tal, ¿qué sacrificio tiene? La respuesta sencilla es que tiene el mejor sacrificio posible. En vez de ofrecer la sangre de animales, Cristo se presentó ante el Padre con su propia sangre, ¡el sacrificio para terminar con todos los sacrificios! Cristo se ofreció una vez para siempre en la cruz para producir un perdón verdadero y una limpieza real para su pueblo.
Por fe en el perfecto sacrificio de Cristo, recibimos perdón y limpieza de Dios y así gozamos de paz con Dios. Tengamos cuidado de no presumir de este Sacrificio, de no olvidarnos del gran precio de rescate que se pagó en nuestro lugar. Gozemos hoy de este rescate en gratitud y compartámoslo con los necesitados que nos rodean. (David Bell)
