Cuando Pedro da instrucciones a la iglesia primitiva, se dirige a todos con un sólo principio: debemos estar sumisos o respetar los unos a los otros. Es la volutnad de Dios que siempre tratemos a los demás con respeto. Y una condición necesaria para el respeto es la humildad. Por eso las Escrituras nos mandan a revestirnos de humildad. La palabra aquí traducida “revestíos” significa literalmente envolverse. Hace eco de lo que hizo Jesús en el aposento alto la misma noche en que fue entregado. Tomó una toalla y se revistió de siervo para lavar los pies de los discípulos que tanto discutían entre sí sobre quién de ellos era el mayor en el reino. La verdadera grandeza se manifestó delante de ellos en forma de siervo cuando Cristo demostró su inmenso amor y humilidad en servicio a los doce.Si nosotros en humildad respetáramos a los demás como debemos, nos sería más fácil ayudarnos los unos a los otros y orar los unos por los otros. Pero este versículo contiene también una promesa: Dios da su gracia a los humildes mientras resiste a los que en soberbia se levantan por encima de los demás.
Que Dios nos ayude a revestirnos de la humildad de Cristo hoy para que podamos ayudar y orar los unos por los otros. (David Bell)
