Speaker 1 (00:00):
Michigan's most engaging and influential radio and television program, Michigan's
Big Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, presented by Blue Cross,
Blue Shield Michigan and Blue Care Network.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lancing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I love you too.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
If I didn't, I wouldn't be standing it because it's
freezing out here.
Speaker 5 (00:32):
You know.
Speaker 6 (00:33):
I told you people something a long time ago, and
it's just as pertinent today as it was then.
Speaker 7 (00:38):
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice. Pull it on your
pants and slide on the ice.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.
Speaker 8 (00:46):
Good morning world.
Speaker 9 (00:47):
Plenty of snow and ice to slide on. And it's
winter and it's December, and it's Michael Patrick Shields from
the end of the road at the top of the
world with a tail well calculated to keep you in suspense.
We get your Monday Turkey on the road. One bite,
everyone knows the rules, another one and it's another coach
(01:12):
for Michigan State and the Spartan football team. After two seasons,
they gave the Ziggy the walking papers to their coach,
and he's gonna get thirty three million big ones for
the buyout to go with him. So if they end
up paying Mel Tucker, because I think that's still sort
of floating around in the courts, isn't it, it's going
(01:34):
to be eighty million to him and thirty three million
to this fella. And now the new coach apparently used
to coach at Northwestern, Pat Fitzgerald. Is that his name,
And he had a reasonably good record there. I mean,
it's not easy probably to coach and win at Northwestern
because that is a school with very high academic standards,
and so to have a winning record there pretty good.
(01:57):
And he did. And he's been not a coach because
he too collected a lot of money from Northwestern in
a wrongful dismissal suit that he won. They got rid
of him because there was some hazing going on. It
was what had to do with nakedness, and so maybe
(02:20):
they fired him too hastily, and then they put out
a statement that he was a fine coach for the university.
They had to sort of apologize with a lot of money,
and so he's going to be the coach. And I
wondered a little bit, just a little bit, if maybe
Michigan State, after what they've been through with Larry Nassar
(02:41):
and also with mel Tucker, might shy away from someone
who had anything to do with anything having to do
with hazing or sexuality or that kind of thing. And
I'm sure that in our era someone's going to bring
that up. But that's what it is right now, that's
what we're hearing. And once again it seems to have
(03:06):
been proven that he didn't know anything about it when
it was going on. But you know, it's did you
order the code red kind of thing. I'm not saying,
I'm just saying it's an interesting hire. He is a
big ten coach, was a big ten coach, and so
Michigan State's gonna roll dice again. I don't know how
(03:26):
much he's going to be paid. We'll get to some
of those details throughout the morning. But the Spartans did
win on Saturday night at Ford Field in downtown Detroit
beat Maryland. I think they scored thirty eight points or
something like that. But it wasn't enough, and that's that.
(03:46):
By now you know, of course, the Wolverine's lost, and
they're twelve million dollar quarterback through for sixty five yards
or something like that. It was a snow globe of
a game for the nation to see, and a very
competitive one in the Wolverines had a chance to go
up fourteen to nothing. Instead they went up six to nothing,
and as far as I know, kicked only field goals
(04:06):
throughout that game, right, I don't think there were any touchdowns.
But it was competitive. And then afterwards, you know, the
Wolverines the football players went and stood on their own
m so that the Ohio State Buckeyes couldn't get to
it to plant a flag. That became a big deal.
And Ryan Day, I think he was quite an admirable coach,
(04:28):
went up to Charon Moore and said, essentially on a paraphrase,
you know, we've got to get the players out of
here before something happens. We're not planning flag or anything
like that, and so off they went. So it was
a relatively peaceful and sporting conclusion to the game. It
was a passionate game, of course, and there were players
drawn at each other and screaming at each other throughout
(04:50):
the game, and particularly the Buckeyes it seemed anyway, But
that was quite a competitive game, very very very festive.
It's Michael Patrick shiels with you. Mister Cuthbert, and I
were in Las Vegas last week for it seems like
was that a week ago wow for the Las Vegas
(05:12):
Grand Prix and those racers did it again one weekend
later in Doha and Cutter and from what I could see,
Tony Cuthbert in terms of the drama, the Ferrari team
with Charles Leclair and your man Lewis Hamilton, Sir Lewis
Hamilton had a hissy fit meltdown, both of them, riping
(05:34):
and complaining about the cars for Ferrari, and then the
team what do they call him? The managing director came
out and in support of Lewis Hamilton and said, you know,
because Hamilton said he was waiting for the season to
be over and not looking forward to next year. And
I'm like, wow, you get paid all that money I
presume to drive, and that's the way you talk about
(05:56):
your own team. And Leclair said, yeah, he's right, these
cars are terrible. So out came the managing director and
support of the drivers. And the next thing, you know,
if I have this right, he's gone. He's going to
be gone after this season. They're going to have to
have a new manager.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
There's a possibility of that. There's like it's like a
black Monday when it comes to Formula One in the NFL.
They get rid of everybody after the race. So they're
going to wrap it up this weekend in Abu Dhabi
and it's actually a very competitive final three to win
the championship between Max verst stapp and Oscar Piastre and
Lando Norris. But not to dig too deep into that,
but the Ferrari team has been awful. Lewis Hamilton, for
(06:33):
the first time in his career is not going to
finish they call it on the podium, one of the
top three positions in any race, unless he does something
miraculous in Abu Dhabi. So there are an anger in
during one of the press conference as somebody said, how
do you like Qatar and what do you think about
your car? He's like, well, the weather's nice here and
then he just walked off.
Speaker 9 (06:54):
So not good. Okay. I thought I read somewhere that
for sure the manager was going to be leaving, but
I guess we'll see about that. And who did win
the race.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
It was Max Verstappen. He's making back to back weeks,
right back to back making a charge and if basically
whoever wins the race this upcoming weekend will be the
champion for the season. And that's it.
Speaker 9 (07:20):
Okay. We'll be talking to Moot lu Kachuk, who is
the managing director at Lowe's Miami Beach. They have the
Miami Grand Prix. That's the next one I'm angling for,
and that is in early May, week before Mother's Day?
Did you tell me? That's what it is?
Speaker 2 (07:36):
The week before Mother's Day is our date.
Speaker 9 (07:38):
That's the next one I would like to attend. And
she's were about sixty days now from the Olympics and Milan, Cortina,
and we were the first American radio show to broadcast
from the Olympics, which we did at the American Headquarters
Hotel there the NH City Life in Milan back in October.
(08:00):
So we have that going for us, which is nice.
We have a lot of politics and a lot of
audio for you this morning. Sure is a lot going
on in America and in the world, and we'll try
to catch up on all of it now that we're
back after the holiday. It's Monday, and I'm pleased, very
pleased to be with you. It's Michael Patrick Shields Monday.
Speaker 6 (08:22):
It'll be ane come Monday.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
I'll be.
Speaker 10 (08:33):
And I just watch you back by my side.
Speaker 11 (08:37):
I just watch you back myself.

Music Moments Eminem surprise fans at the Thanksgiving Day Detroit
Lions game against the Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 14 (11:00):

Speaker 13 (11:01):
Jack White on stage for the halftime show for a
mix of one of his own songs and a White
Stripes classic. Eminem aka Marshall Mathers, a Detroit fixture, earlier
this month, signed a multi year entertainment deal with the Lions.
Chase Rice is taking a break from touring in twenty
twenty six.
Speaker 14 (11:20):
Rice announced the news on social.
Speaker 13 (11:22):
Media, marking the first year off in thirteen years for
the forty year old singer. The only shows on his
schedule are festival appearances at Stagecoach in California and Barefoot
Country in New Jersey. Rice, who played linebacker for the
North Carolina tar Heels, joked about returning to college football
for a sixth year and the Grand Old Abbrey celebrated
(11:46):
one hundred years with an all star show on Friday
night in Nashville. Nearly thirty artists including Vince Gill, Bill Anderson,
Scotty McCreary, and Pam Tillis, performed to celebrate the Historica case.
The event included tributes such as Ricky Skaggs playing Tennessee
Wagoner on the original fiddle used in the first Opry
(12:07):
performance in nineteen twenty five.
Speaker 15 (12:10):
The Opry treated.
Speaker 13 (12:11):
Fans to a mix of music, video montages, and special
one night only merchandise.
Speaker 14 (12:16):
That's entertainment. I'm jackling, Carl.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
If we make it through December, everything's gonna be all right.
Speaker 9 (12:38):
I know.
Speaker 6 (12:41):
It's the coldest time of winter, and I shiver when
I see the falling snow. If we make it through Thiscember.
Speaker 9 (12:56):
Lots of snow in this beginning of December, and ice
and cold fluffy stuff all around you. It's a winter
wonderland in Michigan. It's Michael Patrick Shields and it is December.
Speaker 6 (13:09):
If we make it food December, will you'll be fine.
Speaker 9 (13:14):
Jonathan Smith didn't make it through December. He barely made
it through November. The Michigan state coach got the ziggy.
Pat Fitzgerald, fifty years old, will take his place. He
coached at Northwestern and his record you ask ten one
oh one, one hundred and ten wins one hundred and
one losses over seventeen seasons and got fired in a
(13:37):
hazing scandal that he apparently was exonerated from eventually, and
with a big pile of money too. There were a
bunch of lawsuits with thirty four former players. Anyway, here
he comes, and Michigan State owes mister Smith thirty three
million to be paid in installments through the duration of
his contract, all the way until twenty thirty one. I
(13:58):
don't know if that goes away, if he gets hired
by someone else or what have you, but Michigan States
is not going to be playing in December or January.
No Bowl game for the Spartans. My son Harrison was
on a flight yesterday guns n' Roses. A guy called
Slash was on the flight. Yeah, first class cabin.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Famous guitarist of Guns n' Roses.
Speaker 9 (14:21):
Yeah, he said that he looked like a rock star.
He had a t like a tank top on and
all the tattoos and chains and black you know, curly
hair and the whole thing. Even though he's an old
timer now, isn't He Slashed from Guns n' Roses And
he had a first class seat up there, and they
kind of most people kind of left him alone. For
(14:42):
what it's worth. The Pope has arrived in Beirut and
the lights were dimmed and there was a spectacular three
D show that lit up the sky in his honor,
a two minute projection of lights and images with a
drone display and a dove so across the sky. And
the Holy Father arrived in the rain there in Lebanon.
(15:06):
And we'll be hearing a lot about that. You know
who's there, Osama Sablani. When he gets back, we'll hear
about it. But you'll find out enough about it in
the news as we go along. It's a very very
big deal for the Holy Father, who's been on the
road for a few days now, was in Turkey. I
think before this the Lions have a forty two percent
chance to make the playoffs. So if you were going
(15:29):
to fire keepers, did you bet they make the playoffs
or not? That would be disappointing and it would be
a real setback, wouldn't it if the Lions? What if
they peaked already? I know they've had injuries and whatnot,
and they lost their coordinators and everything, and it looks
like the Bears are going to probably win a division
(15:49):
and they are a house of fire with that fellow
that used to coach for Detroit, Ben Johnson, and he
was so excited the other day in the post game
that he took his shirt off, screaming and running around,
and he does a poem with them good better best,
never let it rest until you're good is better, and
you're better's best. And I was thinking, how do you
get NFL guys to go along with a poem like that.
(16:13):
I thought they were, you know, kind of beyond that
sort of college spirit kind of thing, but not so
at the Bears, and you begin to wonder maybe the
Lion should have kept Ben Johnson and let the other
guy go to the Bears. Anyway, that's how it is,
if that's how it goes a forty two percent chance
to make the playoffs. I did speak to Jim Nance yesterday.
(16:34):
He will definitely be in Detroit for that game on
the twenty first, and we'll look forward to having him
on the radio from CBS Sports. He had the Buffalo
game yesterday, and I don't know if you stayed up
and watched the Sunday night game, but the Washington Commanders.
Guess what. Guess who kicked them into overtime. Jake Moody,
who played for the Wolverines and now he's played I
(16:55):
think for three NFL teams this season, including the Bears
for a bit. Anyway, Denver Broncos, who have won what
eight nine in a row now, and the Commanders had
lost four or five in a row. Mike Tarico from
Michigan was on the call with Chris Collinsworth, and they
went to overtime and the Broncos scored, and then so
(17:18):
Washington has to score. They did. They answered with a score,
and there was only two minutes left in overtime, so
they went for two to try to win it and
did not get the two point conversion. I started to
wonder about that. So let's say they kicked and tied
it up. Then Denver would have two minutes left to
try to score, and that would be it. It would
(17:39):
be a tie. Whoever scores next, I think in the
system is the winner. So what decision do you make
when you're Washington like that? You say, well, hey, look
I have one play, I have to go two yards
and I win the game. You would take that deal
right at the.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Start, right, I for sure would, especially with Washington. They're
not a good team this season and they have no
playoff possibility, so you might as well go for the winning.
If you lose, well, you know what a better draft position,
I guess.
Speaker 9 (18:07):
So that went on last night. And by the way,
speaking of gambling, all mid Singh is a comedian, and
we were talking about fire keepers and Dacy's Sports Book
and all the rest of it in Battle Creek there.
We'll be broadcasting live there on the Friday before Christmas.
Join us from six till nine am on the money
Keeper's main stage. This was his take on gaming. I
(18:28):
like gambling.
Speaker 16 (18:29):
My favorite game is will I still be playing when
the waitress comes back with my drink?
Speaker 11 (18:37):
Is that the worst? When you lose all your money?
Speaker 17 (18:38):
Then you got to stand five feet away from the
table wait for a two hundred dollars bud light.
Speaker 9 (18:46):
Remember you know that's when they will you get free
drinks at Las Vegas. And you're like, you have to
be playing in order to get the free drinks. So
he's like, yeah, I keep pumping money in this machine
so that I can get a free drink. You would
be driven to drink if you thought about the media
right now. They asked young people what their perception of
(19:09):
the media is. Eighty four percent of teenagers responded with
something negative, biased, crazy, boring, fake, bad, depressing, confusing, and scary.
And more than half of those teenagers believe journalists engage
in unethical behaviors like making up details or quotes, paying sources,
(19:31):
visual images taken out of context. Yeah, that's what the
attitude of teenagers is about our fake news media these
days when it comes to journalism. Maybe that's your attitude too. Hey,
Tom Brady was at the Michigan game and a stormy
chromer with a wolverine m on the side go blue.
Speaker 18 (19:50):
The FDA is planning to roll out new vaccine regulations
since the agency will cite COVID nineteen shots as contributing
to the deaths of at least ten children. In a
memost Friday, Vinaprosad, the FDA's director of the Vaccine Division,
told agency staff the children had died after and because
of the COVID nineteen vaccine Deltia. Pissod said their deaths
(20:12):
were related to inflammation of the heart, known medically as myocarditis.
Bissad called it a profound revelation noting it's the first
time the FDA will acknowledge COVID nineteen vaccines have killed
American children. The World Health Organization is called on countries
to make fertility care more accessible. It's its first ever
Global Guidelines for Infertility, forty recommendations to strengthen the prevention, diagnosis,
(20:37):
and treatment of infertility. It also emphasizes the need to
ensure that those affected have access to psychological support. Health Update.

Speaker 19 (20:50):
Michigan's Big Show starring Michael Patrick.
Speaker 9 (20:53):
Shields, James Blanchard, the former Governor of Michigan, Ambassador to Canada,
member of Congress.
Speaker 20 (20:58):
It's hard to get people to run for office. Good people.
That is, you get clowns and people interested in its
glory and money. But there are a lot of people
in politics who give good speeches and they're fancy fancy,
but they're not really all that involved in making things work.
You've got to get the good peoples to run.
Speaker 9 (21:14):
One of Michigan's great Democrats who worked with one of
Michigan's great Democrats, Curtis Hotel Senior. It's Curtis Hotel Junior,
who served in the state Senate and in fact is
right now the chair of the Michigan Democrat Party. He
joined Andrew bood on the A List Hour podcast. That's
(21:34):
what you google if you're looking for Andro Boods podcast,
The A List Hour wherever you get your podcast and
you can hear a discussion like the attorney Andro Boods
discussion with Curtis Hotel Junior.
Speaker 21 (21:46):
I'm those people unlucky that I get to do something
I love for a living. I loved every aspect of
public service, and I love elections and campaigns and talking
to people.
Speaker 9 (21:59):
I love.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
You know.
Speaker 21 (22:00):
I believe that our job as humans is to try
to make the world better than when we started, and
there are so many different ways to do that, but
every single day I get to think about how I
can make that better. Now, this is a little different
role because I do it from a political aspect, but
(22:21):
I personally think the Democratic Party is a force for
good in the world. I think that, you know, if
there's no party fighting for better wages for people, making
childcare more affordable, making healthcare more affordable. If we're not
that party, there won't be a party in this country
that's fighting for those things. And so I see this
(22:45):
as an extension of that public service more than anything else.
Speaker 9 (22:48):
The A list Our podcast with Andrew Abou, It's Michael
Patrick Shields with you, Tony Cuthbert. You got to experience
the cuisine of chef Massimo Batura from Italy when Cavelino

Speaker 9 (23:05):
Yes, Aha, Well, you know Massimo was on the program
with us when I was at his restaurants back in Italy.
As fate would have it, when I'm broadcasting from Miami
in a couple of weeks, Torno Sabido, his restaurant will
reopen inspired by the Italian riviera and the spirit of
La dolce vita, and it is going to be in

the Design District starting December. First beautiful location. So, as
good luck would have it, we'll get to experience Massimo again,
this time in Miami. Back with more Cross Michigan.
Speaker 22 (23:39):
In a flash in BC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield.
Venezuela is accusing the US of murder after acknowledging publicly
for the first time that citizens were among those killed

by US strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean.

meaning things cannot be classified as anything but murder. Rodriguez
went on to say every human being has the right

that the latest idea calls for a ballroom much larger
than the West Wing and the Executive mansion. Trump has

because the structure is on White House grounds. I'm Rob Bartier.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with the Ukrainian delegation
in Florida on Sunday, as peace talks to end the
war with Russia continue. Work is still being done to
iron out details of a year US plan that has

other concessions to Russia. Rubio focused on reassuring Ukraine that
it would be free and prosperous after the war. The
head of Ukraine's delegation responded by thanking the US sports

We'll congratulations to the lasers in the spotlights and all
the rest of it. And he's in Lebanon and we'll
have coverage of that as well. Thank you very much.
By the way, let's I got a lot of things
I would like to talk to Dennis Lennox about the
freelance columnist and political strategists from northern Michigan who might
be buried in snow wherever he is right now, how
(29:50):
about a winter Wonderland report from where you are. Before
we get started throwing around the political discussion.
Speaker 27 (29:58):
Well, hey, good morning, Michael patri And before we can
wish each other of merry Christmas, we have to say
happy Advent, because of course yesterday was the first day
of Advent.
Speaker 9 (30:08):
That's very sweet of you. To remind everybody. So we're
on the purple candle, and then it's purple, purple, pink, purple,
as we make our way. Good afternoon, good evening, whenever
you might be listening to this program right now. What
did you think of the Transportation secretary telling everyone before
Thanksgiving that, you know, maybe you ought to stop wearing
(30:28):
your pajamas on the airplane and dress up a little bit.
Speaker 27 (30:33):
You know, if that means that people stop wearing a
thong on the plane when they fly spirit, I think
that's probably a good thing. At the end of the day,
I'm not sure it's going to make much of a difference.
Michael Patrick, I think that that fight was long ago lost.
Speaker 9 (30:50):
The dignity of travel is lost. You're saying people are
turning up, and that's what he really pointed out, is
maybe they would behave better if they dress better, because
sometimes people are getting really and we see it in
videos now that everyone has a camera really cranked up
when they're up there in the skies.
Speaker 27 (31:07):
I think people would behave better on the plane if
they had more leg room, if the seats were wider,
if you could fly five hours across the country and
get an edible meal. I think the airlines have a
lot of responsibility in this as well. I mean, let's
face it, unless you're flying in the front of the plane,
(31:30):
it's pretty downright miserable in the back of the plane.
I mean, you might as well take a great home
bus across the country.
Speaker 9 (31:37):
Wow. I saw a video yesterday of a Delta pilot
and he was a selfie video that he made, and
he said that he and his co pilot are going
to fly from Detroit to Traverse City. That's the way
he said it. And he said, neither one of us
have ever flown in bey there before. It's going to
be fun. And then we're turning around going back to
Detroit and onto Austin, Texas. I said, thought, Wow, if
(32:01):
I was with two pilots who'd never flown in there before,
given the weather that we're having, and he calls it
Traverse City, I don't know, that might make me nervous.
Speaker 27 (32:11):
I've heard that one before. I mean, I think General
Motors calls it, what this is, Chevy Traverse, So I
suppose that's understandable. But you're talking to a guy who
lives in Topenhamvy. I've heard Toppenham being pronounced every way imaginable.
Speaker 9 (32:24):
So is that where you are now? And what is
the snow like?
Speaker 27 (32:28):
So you know, we didn't have a black Friday. We
had a snowed in Friday. We've picked up probably I
don't know, eleven to thirteen inches of snow in the
last two or three days. But more importantly, camp cold.
I mean it's like January or February weather here, and
it's supposed to be like that in the next five
(32:49):
to seven days. We're supposed to have record.
Speaker 9 (32:51):
Cold WMKTAM and FM in northern Michigan. Dennis Lennox, Donald
Trump and this project. Now we're I'm seeing that he's
at odds with the architect for the ballroom that he's building.
The architect says, there's a general rule that you're not
supposed to have the addition be bigger than the original property.
(33:13):
So at ninety thousand square feet, it would dwarf the
fifty five thousand square feet White House mansion. You've been there.
What do you make of that?
Speaker 27 (33:23):
Well, I guess that means we just got to make
the White House bigger. In all seriousness, I mean, I
think we need a ballroom space I've been to functions.
I would say I've probably been to a half dozen receptions.
I've never been to a dinner at the White House. Unfortunately,
I'm still waiting for maybe one of those invitations one day.
But it is a very small space, especially once you
(33:46):
take away the west wayne where all the offices are,
and then you take away the residents of the President
and first family on the upper floors. There really is,
in fact no ballroom in the current White House, and
so they make use of a variety of spaces. So
we do need something. I don't know if this is
(34:06):
the solution or not. I'll let the architectural experts hash
this out, but what I will say is, I think
there's this misconception out there that the White House is
an old building. It actually isn't. The White House was
basically demolished by Harry Truman in the late nineteen forties
and build a new So if you consider old nineteen forties,
(34:28):
then yes it is old, but there's very little outside
of the exterior walls from the original White House.
Speaker 9 (34:34):
Speaking of old, the New York Times has an article
this weekend Shorter Days signs of fatigue, Trump faces realities
of aging in office, the oldest person to be elected
to the presidency. So now they're on that about him,
that he's an old man.
Speaker 27 (34:51):
You know, look, I think the people who have come
through instant syntome. You know that the New York Times
is unfortunately too often they're not the party organ of
the Democrat Party, and you know, they're they're putting out
this narrative, And of course i'd so little bit ironic
because that's the narrative that Trump and Republicans used against Biden.
I just don't think it's a it's a true narrative.
I mean, Trump does more events, he has more press availabilities,
(35:15):
he's more transparent, for better or for worse. Sometimes maybe
he should be a little less transparent than any president
that I can ever think of it. So I just
don't think people actually believe that to be true.
Speaker 9 (35:27):
We will continue with Dennis Lennox, the freelance columnist political
strategist in Northern Michigan and the world. That's Michael Patrick
Shields with you through the AT and T microphones. And remember,
we have a big jackpot, big big, big seven hundred
and forty million dollar power ball tonight at Michigan Lottery

Our path to a top ten state is only as
strong as our strength of commitment. It's time to compete
to win. When we do better by our kids, invest
in people, accelerate our economy, and get the fundamentals right,
we will feel a powerful win in our sales that
will move Michigan over. That's a top ten state. Business
(36:40):
Leaders for Michigan is the state's business Roundtable. We're committed
to make Michigan more competitive. Time to be bold, Michigan.
It's time to compete to win.
Speaker 9 (36:50):
When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only
seeing part of the picture. The truth is our health
insurance costs downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,
(37:13):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts
(37:37):
with shedding light on the entire cost equation, from upstream
costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visitmibludaily dot

Speaker 22 (37:53):
In BC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says
you'll soon release the results of an MRI he had
an October. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, this
game came back perfect Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah, who
has submitted a request for a pardon from the country's President,
Isaac Hertzog. More from Lisa Carton.
Speaker 29 (38:11):
Netan Yahoo is currently standing trial in his country for bribery, fraud,
and breach of trust. His request comes after President Trump
through his support behind a pardon for the Israeli prime minister.
In a letter to Herzog, Trump express that he quote
respects the independence of the Israeli justice system and its requirements,
but said the case against Nettan Yahoo is a political,
(38:32):
unjustified prosecution. I'm Lisa Carton.
Speaker 22 (38:35):
And Luigi Mangioni. Heads back to court today as the
jud Jovin's pre trial hearings in New York's case against him.
He has pleaded not guilty to killing United Healthcare CEO
Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan last December. Mark Mayfield, NBC
News Radio.
Speaker 9 (38:50):
If you have a sman chrism on CHRISTMASONA, you're in
the seventy five million and put you're on an island
just about anywhere. Wait a minute, it's fuzzy math again.
It's over seven hundred million in the power Ball tonight,
Michael Patrick Shields. You can get those tickets at Meyer
(39:11):
where you get more of the things you want most,
more local produce, more home to core, more free prescriptions,
more importantly, you get them all for less, Admyer, why
would you pay more? Dennis Lennox is a freelance writer.
He does a lot of traveling and writing, and he's
a political analyst. And it comes together here that Harry Truman,
(39:32):
who you mentioned, renovated. He's sort of rebuilt the White House.
According to what you say, he has spent one hundred
and seventy five days of his presidency in Key West
at what was called the Little White House. And Tony
Cuthbert is going to be making his first ever trip
to Key West. Now here's a guy who made his
first ever trip to Vegas last year. So he's knocking
(39:55):
off all the party spots. But in March he's taking
his family on spring break to Key West. I don't know, Dennis,
if you've been there, obviously Truman has any advice for
mister Cuthbert.
Speaker 27 (40:07):
Well, you know, maybe we can tag along too, if
we all go in on the lotto together tonight, right,
Michael Patrick, we can carry Tony's Bags on Key West
forms you know, I've been there once. I really liked
a restaurant called matt Stock Island Kitchen and Bar. Matt
Stock Island Kitchen.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
That's that the hotel we're staying at. So good call Dennis.
Speaker 20 (40:32):
Hey, there you go.
Speaker 27 (40:33):
I was gonna say, you know, it's about ten minutes
as I remember, by car from the main drag in
Key West, so it's a little bit quieter. But it
had the best key lime pie that I've ever had
in my life at matt Stock Island Kitchen and Bars.
Speaker 30 (40:47):
So there you go.
Speaker 27 (40:48):
It's at the Perry Hotel if I remember correctly, not
to be confused with the Perry Hotel and Potoski.
Speaker 9 (40:54):
What a small world. Wow, amazing. Well you'll be able
to compare that key lime pie with Joe's Stonecrab key
line pie and see what you think. But you'll be
in the keys there for sure. I don't know if
mL l Rick has written in the Free Press, Turkeys
and Lancing continue stuffing themselves with lobbyists Largesse. One lobbyist
(41:19):
through an engagement party for a state rep who is
one of the most prolific when it comes to taking freebies.
This is nothing new under the sun. Dennis Lennox is.
Speaker 31 (41:30):
It is the POLP Catholic right.
Speaker 9 (41:35):
This is how the system works.
Speaker 27 (41:38):
I mean, the idea that politicians are going out with
lobbyists or drinks and food. I don't think that's anything
new here. I mean, I guess it fills in space
and you can sensationalize it by saying, oh, well, in
this case, you know, it's two legislators who are marrying
each other. I'm great that they found love. I mean
(41:58):
they found love in lancing. I mean, no different than
people find love in workplaces all the time. I just
think this has much ado about nothing, and you know,
in fact, actually I would argue this is partly why
a lot of people in a state of ten million
don't run for political office, because it's just not worth
it when you have pieces like this.
Speaker 9 (42:20):
Brinton, Yeah, if you can be bought off by a lunch,
I mean, my gosh, it's you know, it is what
it is. Okay, I want to talk to you. So,
speaking of that, you and the Detroit News it is
have a column called Michigan It's time for a constitutional convention.
That's a big deal. How often does something like that happen.
(42:43):
Why is it time and what would come out of it?
Speaker 27 (42:47):
Well, Michael Patrick, next year in Michigan, it's going to
be on the ballot automatically. It's called Proposal one. Every
sixteen years, it's automatically on the ballot. And then ask
the good people of Michigan whether or not a state
constitutional convention should be convened to either amend the current
constitution wholesale or write a new one. My column that
(43:09):
published last week and it's still online Detroit News dot Com,
makes the argument that it's time for a state constitutional
convention in Michigan. The reality is, Michael Patrick, our current constitution,
written in nineteen sixty three, was written for a state
that no longer exists. You know, in the early nineteen sixties,
Detroit was the richest city in the world per capitol.
(43:31):
We built interstate highways. We took small teacher colleges like
Central Michigan and made them state universities. We created sprawling
suburban cities from farmlands. Now as we end the first
quarter of the twenty first century, that Michigan no longer
exists anymore. Our constitution is broken. It's been cluttered over
the years with contradictory amendments put in their biouto state
(43:55):
special interest groups. So it's time to have a constitution
that reflects not only of today, but the Michigan of tomorrow.
Speaker 9 (44:04):
So will there be people who will say, well, look
out now, if they get this constitutional convention, here's what
they're going to do, like what comes first, the chicken
or the egg?
Speaker 27 (44:17):
I think that's fearmongering Michael Patrick by vested interests who
don't want change because the current document benefits them. The
reality of it is a constitutional convention wouldn't be about party,
political party or political ideology. You would have one hundred
and forty delegates elected based on the current independently drawn
(44:39):
state legislative districts, and whatever document that they wrote would
have to then be ratified by the people. So there
would be no incentive to write some partisan or ideological,
right wing or left wing document if it's going to
get rejected, because who would want to waste all that
time and money.
Speaker 9 (44:59):
Do you think that us A. Slot Ken is angling
to be president.
Speaker 27 (45:03):
I think there're a lot of Democrats angling to be president.
I think you're going to see a fifteen to twenty
person DEI style primary in twenty twenty eight. Mark Kelly,
the astronaut turned senator from Arizona's almost certainly going to run.
I think you're going to see Wes Moore, the governor
of Maryland, Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, of Asa slock,
(45:25):
and who knows, maybe Gretchen Whitmer, though it increasingly looks
like she's just fed up with it and is not
going to be part of that conversation. But I would
say the odds on front runner is probably Gelden News.
I just don't see how the governor of California, it
does not end up to be the Democrat nominee unless
he's caught in bed with a little boy. But in
today's Democratic Party that probably wouldn't hurt him, that would
(45:49):
probably help him.
Speaker 9 (45:51):
You know what, We're going to drop the mic on
that one right there. From the provocative Dennis Lennox from
northern Michigan. It's Michael Patrick Shields. In the middle of
all that snow, he found a way to heat things
up through the AT and T microphones. You're listening to

Blue Cross has Michigan covered head to toe, inside and out,

And you know Dion Sanders. His father was known as
kind of a braggadocious wild player, very talented. Then he
(49:11):
became a football coach. He must be a heck of
a coach and he must be a heck of a
father because after the game, mister Sanders there, the junior
mister Sanders, after losing that game, by the way, that
quarterback stood in front of the media and the media
tried to throw him a hot potato about the coach's strategy.
Listen to how the young man responded.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
Poor talents didn't work, and did you like Kevin having
the addressed miss there you can back up in your camper.
Speaker 37 (49:40):
I mean, first, that's a rude question to ask if
I if I think, you know, it was a great call.
Speaker 9 (49:45):
But my coach, you know, like THESSI.
Speaker 37 (49:49):
I like being out there playing, so so whatever that
comes when it comes with, you know, like you know,
we're not gonna be here in every point figure, I know,
doing anything like that, you know that's extremely disrespectful and
that's not even in my place.
Speaker 9 (50:05):
How about that, Tony Kuppert. That's impressive, isn't it in
a day when you know, you say something sensational and
you end up on social media.
Speaker 2 (50:12):
Yeah, Shadoor Sanders he's getting a look right now. Of course,
he was projected going into the NFL Draft this last
year as I don't know, one of the first quarterbacks
taking off the board. Wasn't the case. He went in
a later round. He's getting his chance now with a
bad team. But you know what, a lot of guys
are watching him otherwise on a team that nobody would
care about. So we'll see what Shadoor Sanders makes up
(50:32):
his career going forward with the Cleveland Browns. Now you
yesterday was a weird day in college football. We had
coaches being fired left and right. We had hires taking place.
The sport is broken, there's no question about it. And
I guess you can have it if you really enjoy
that type of stuff. We know Jonathan Smith no longer
with Michigan State. Pat Fitzgerald appears to be the man
that will be there. Of course, he was with Northwestern forever.
(50:55):
Misschigan State. They did play, remember at some point this
season they beat Maryland thirty eight to twenty eight, four
and eight overall on the season, one in eight in
conference play. No bowl game for them the Wolverines. They
fell to Ohio State. Therefore nine and three on the season.
Where will they play? Who knows? Probably a New Year's
the New Year's Day game for sure for the Michigan Wolverines.
(51:16):
Central Michigan lost over the weekend to Toledo twenty one
to three. They're seven to five. They're going bowling. Western
Michigan will face Miami of Ohio and the MAC Championship
game this Saturday and downtown Detroit. That's brought to you
by Dean Transportation.

In the Northeast and Great Lakes region, snow and heavy
Lake Eck snow are expected from the Upper Midwest into
the Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast. Highs in
the twenties and thirties. Chill and damp throughout the mid Atlantic,
with rain then possibly changing to snow or sleet in
the higher elevations. Temperatures top out in the low forties.
Sunshine dominates the southeast from the Carolinas through Florida, with
(52:57):
highs in the seventies. Scattered showers are possible in part
part of the Gulf Coast. In the Deep South, especially
near Louisiana and southern Mississippi, a storm is rolling through
the Midwest and northern plains, bringing heavy snow, strong winds,
and potential wide out conditions in the central and southern plains.
Sunny skies the northern plains will top out in the thirties,
while Texas and Oklahoma warm into the low sixties. In
(53:18):
the Southwest, sunshine across Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico, where
highs will hit the low eighties, and there's plenty of
sunshine in California, with coastal highs in the mid sixties,
Land Valley stopping out in the low eighties. In the
Pacific Northwest, expects steady rain and mountain snow from Seattle
to Portland and through the Cascades with temps in the
low fifties. That's your national forecast. I'm Tammy Triheo.
Speaker 22 (53:52):
In BC News Radio. I'm Mark Mayfield. Venezuela is accusing
the US of murder after acknowledging publicly for the first
time that citizens were among those killed by US strikes
on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean. Venezuelan National Assembly
President Jorge Rodriguez said during a press conference there was
no declared war between the two nations, meaning things cannot
be classified as anything but murder. Rodriguez went on to
(54:15):
say every human being has the right to do process.
The US says the goal of the strikes is disrupting
illegal drug flow. The New York Times is reporting that
President Trump's proposed new ballroom is going to be big.
Rob Martyr reports.
Speaker 23 (54:27):
The new East Wing ballroom proposal would be larger than
the White House itself. Officials say plans are preliminary, but
that the latest idea calls for a ballroom, much larger
than the West Wing and the Executive mansion. Trump has
also reportedly told people working on the ballroom that they
did not need to follow permitting, zoning or code requirements
because the structure is on White House grounds. I'm Rob Bartier.
Speaker 22 (54:50):
Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with the Ukrainian delegation
in Florida on Sunday. As peace talks to end the
war with Russia continue. Work is still being done to
iron out details of a US plans that has drawn
criticism for proposing Ukraine give up territory and make other
concessions to Russia. Rubio focus on reassuring Ukraine that it
would be free and prosperous after the war. The head
of Ukraine's delegation responded by thanking the US sports efforts
(55:13):
to support his country and said his team is looking
forward to a successful, productive meeting. Six and ten full

Speaker 24 (55:24):

The holidays are a make it or break at time
for the restaurant industry, which has been struggling this year.
They're asking customers to pay with cash or a debit
card so they don't have to pay the credit card
company's swipe feest.
Speaker 39 (55:58):
That's essentially the processing fees that Visa MasterCard in the
large banks charged that business for using that form of payment.
Speaker 38 (56:07):
Kelsey Ericson Struffer with the Texas Restaurant Association says that
swipe fees are their member's third largest expense. Same thing
at small businesses, They too are asking customers to avoid
credit cards if they can.
Speaker 39 (56:19):
That business is losing anywhere from two and a half
percent to four percent of that revenue.
Speaker 38 (56:26):
Some new business owners are surprised how fast the swipe
fees add up. In a few years, California could get
its first ever gas pipeline directly connected with the refineries
in the Midwest. Daniel Martindale explains pipeline is being proposed

Speaker 40 (56:43):
The Western Gateway Pipeline project could deliver gasoline, diesel, and
jet fuel from as far east as Missouri by twenty
twenty nine. The pipeline would run to Colton and San

and Arizona each day. Hey, I'm Daniel Martindale.

five Best Christmas Towns in the US. Third place is
Santa Fe, New Mexico, where instead of modern day led
string lights, you may see a trail of lanterns instead.
Santa Rosa Beach, Florida came in second with its white
sand beaches you may forget it's Christmas. And Levenworth, Washington
(57:22):
took the top spot. It's located in Washington's Cascade Mountains,
but the editors say it looks more like a portal
to Germany and is reminiscent of the Alps. More than
half a million lights go up across town in late
November and they don't come down until February. Plus lots
of activities like gingerbread, house displays, caroling, and frequent appearances

by Santa. I'm Monica Nelson with your consumer and business news.

You know, we know we have what it takes in
this building, and we know we don't worry about the
outside opinions. So for all of us, like you said,
short week holidays, all that, everyone was super locked in
all week.
Speaker 34 (58:16):
The Seahawks trample the Vikings twenty six to nothing, the
Bills beat up the Steelers twenty six to seven on
the road, and the Chargers top the Raiders thirty one
to fourteen at SOFI Stadium. However, LA quarterback Justin Herbert

In the Northeast and Great Lakes region, snow and heavy
Lake avec snow are expected from the upper Midwest into
the Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast. Highs in
the twenties and thirties. Chill and damp throughout the mid Atlantic,
with rain then possibly changing to snow or sleep in
the higher elevations. Temperatures top out in the low forties.
Sunshine dominates the southeast from the Carolinas through Florida, with
(59:05):
highs in the seventies. Scattered showers are possible in parts
of the Gulf Coast. In the Deep South, especially near
Louisiana and southern Mississippi, a storm is rolling through the
Midwest and northern Plains, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and
potential wide out conditions. In the central and southern Plains
sunny skies. The northern plains will top out in the thirties,
while Texas and Oklahoma warm into the low sixties. In
(59:26):
the Southwest, sunshine across Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico, where
highs will hit the low eighties. And there's plenty of
sunshine in California, with coastal highs in the mid sixties,
DeLand Valleys topping out in the low eighties. In the
Pacific Northwest, expects steady rain and mountain snow from Seattle
to Portland and through the Cascades with temps in the
low fifties. That's your national forecast. I'm Tammy Triheo.

Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.
Speaker 41 (01:00:25):
Some people say reform is his say put that man
in jail.
Speaker 14 (01:00:29):
What does he think he is doing?
Speaker 8 (01:00:32):
What I hope I'm doing.
Speaker 42 (01:00:33):
And here's where your English paper's got a point is
I'm responding to the will.

Speaker 9 (01:00:43):
Good morning world, Good morning Michigan, Good afternoon, good evening.
Whenever you might be listening to this program, I'm one
of the radio stations across the state of Michigan worldwide.
At amibig show dot com. We've got streaming audio and
podcasting there anytime you like. Welcome to the program, and
please to be with you. We have a giant over
(01:01:05):
seven hundred million dollar powerball jackpot waiting for you tonight.
We've got plenty of audio waiting for you today. Because
politics is our family business and medias dot virtus, the
truth is in the middle and it's pennies from heaven
politically speaking. These days, when you have a talk show
that lasts three hours a day and people say how's
(01:01:29):
the show going, you say, are you kidding? Are you kidding?
Just open up the spickett and let it fly. And
when you do that, you get all sorts of wild stuff.
Let's talk first about the best source. Really. The President
of the United States, Donald Trump, coming off of this
(01:01:50):
Thanksgiving holiday, talked about pardoning the turkeys. You know, this
is a quaint thing. The governor does it, the president
does it. They have a couple of turkeys, and they
have them there and they say, we're gonna send him
to the farm. They're not going to end up on
anyone's table, but the head turkey, if you want to
look at it that way, use the opportunity to skewer
(01:02:15):
some other turkeys.
Speaker 42 (01:02:16):
The turkey's being pardoned Todaego by the names of Gobble
and Waddle. When I first saw their pictures, I thought
we should send them. Well, I was gonna I shouldn't
say this. I was gonna call him Chuck a Nancy.
But then I realized I wouldn't be pardoning them. I
would never pardon those two people. I wouldn't pardon them.
(01:02:37):
I wouldn't care what Malania told me. Darling, I think
it would be a nice thing to do, I won't
do it, Darling.
Speaker 9 (01:02:45):
So he couldn't resist, and that's just how he is.
He's a New Yorker. I guess, and people were to
get cranked up about things that he says. He also
had some really unpleasant and upsetting words for the governor
of Minnesota who ran for the vice presidency, Tim Walls,
(01:03:08):
when he used an R word to describe him, and
the reporter asked him, you know, did you really mean that?
And here's what he said, and here's what it sounded like.
Speaker 43 (01:03:16):
Is that the post you mentioned Tim Walls and you
called him of what many Americans do find an.
Speaker 11 (01:03:21):
Offensive word, retarded. Do you stand by that claim of
calling Tim Walls retarded?
Speaker 30 (01:03:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:03:26):
I think there's something wrong with him, absolutely sure. You
have a problem with you know what. I think there's
something wrong with him.
Speaker 9 (01:03:33):
Anybody that would do what.
Speaker 42 (01:03:35):
He did, anybody that would allow those people into a
state and pay billions of dollars to Samalia.
Speaker 10 (01:03:42):
We give billions of.
Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
Dollars to sam It's not even a country because it
doesn't function like a country. It's got an ame, but
it doesn't function like a country. Yeah, there's something wrong
with wolves.
Speaker 9 (01:03:53):
And then somebody said, hey, what is this about Somalia?
Speaker 35 (01:04:00):
Hi?
Speaker 11 (01:04:00):
What did the Somalians have to do with this afgang guy?
Speaker 42 (01:04:03):
I'm shunting on nothing but Tomalians.
Speaker 9 (01:04:06):
Of course, a lot of trouble.
Speaker 44 (01:04:07):
They're ripping us off.
Speaker 9 (01:04:08):
For a lot of money.
Speaker 42 (01:04:08):
There's a tremendous amount of money going back to Somalia.
What the hell are we paying money to Somalia for?
But they're ripping off our country at a level that
few people have been able to see before. That's about
the only thing that you talk about competence. We have
ilhan Omar who does nothing but complain about our country
and our constitution, and she comes from our country with
(01:04:32):
practically it's practically no country. It's devastated, it's crime written,
it's a mess, it's a disgrace, and we took their
people at tremendously. We're not taking their people anymore. We're
not taking that people, and we're getting a lot of
their people out because they's nothing but trouble. Okay, thank
you very much, everybody.
Speaker 10 (01:04:51):
Go ahead.
Speaker 9 (01:04:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 29 (01:04:52):
No.
Speaker 9 (01:04:53):
He was talking more too about the murderer who shot
the guardsmen in Washington, d c. Being an Afghan who
came over when we left Afghanistan. Apparently there were flights
full of Afghans who were he says, were not vetted,
and a reporter asked about that and they got the
president's hire.
Speaker 42 (01:05:15):
Because they let him in.
Speaker 10 (01:05:16):
Are you stupid?
Speaker 4 (01:05:17):
Are you a stupid person?
Speaker 42 (01:05:19):
Because they came in on a plane along with thousands
of other people that shouldn't be here, and you're just
asking questions because you're a stupid person. And there's a
law passed that it's almost impossible not to get them out.
You can't get them out once they come in. And
they came in and they were unvetted, they were unchecked.
There were many of them, and they came in on
(01:05:41):
big planes and it was disgraceful. And if you look,
you'll see there was a law pass it makes it
almost impossible not to let them in, not to certify them,
so to speak, once they come in, and they came
in and they shouldn't have come in, and frankly, the
whole thing was a mess. The whole after understand situation
was a mess.
Speaker 10 (01:06:01):
We shouldn't It should have.
Speaker 42 (01:06:02):
Never taken place. If we're going to go out, and
we would have gone out because I had everybody ready
to go. We were going to go out with strength
and dignity and precision, and we would have left for
Bogram and we would have kept Bogram by the way
because of its very close relationship to China and where.
Speaker 9 (01:06:17):
They make their missiles.
Speaker 42 (01:06:19):
But when you let the people come in by the
thousands and thousands and thousands, they made a terrible mistake,
but they weren't competent.
Speaker 9 (01:06:27):
Yeah, MSNBC is now called ms NOW And this is
the way they referred to the murderous gunmen in Washington,
d C.
Speaker 17 (01:06:37):
But of course, you know, there's so much controversy happening
in the United States right now with Ice who are
also wearing uniforms and wearing masks, and so there's you
don't know, people walking around with uniforms in an American city.
There are some Americans that might object to that, and
(01:06:58):
so entarently this shooting has happened.
Speaker 9 (01:07:02):
Does that make it okay? Does that make it okay?
Because people are upset that there are people in uniforms
walking around in their cities. To blast away like that.
Rashida to Leave is a Democrat congresswoman from the Detroit
area and in Dearborn there were there have been rallies lately,
(01:07:25):
and there were Muslims chanting apparently death to America. It
sounded like this, and then you hear Rashida's response, not response, not.
Speaker 40 (01:07:46):
A great look.
Speaker 45 (01:07:47):
The mayor condemned it, the White House condemned it.
Speaker 19 (01:07:50):
But what about.
Speaker 45 (01:07:51):
Congresswoman Rashida to leb she reps dearborn? Is she okay
with her constituents chanting death to America? Fox Busin this
correspondent Hillary Vaughan, ast Watch congressman.
Speaker 11 (01:08:04):
To Leepox News, I don't talk to Fox neoods.
Speaker 43 (01:08:07):
At a rally in your district, people were chanting death
to America? Do you condemn talk to Fox News? Do
you condemn chance of death to America?
Speaker 11 (01:08:16):
I don't talk to people that use racist troths.
Speaker 43 (01:08:20):
Why can't you just say whether or not you condemn
people chanting death to me? Why are you afraid to
talk to?
Speaker 11 (01:08:25):
Fox News? Is not not listen?
Speaker 46 (01:08:29):
Using racist tropes towards my community is what Fox news
is about.
Speaker 11 (01:08:33):
And I don't talk to Fox News's.
Speaker 43 (01:08:35):
Death to America racist? Fox News is chanting death to
America racist?
Speaker 11 (01:08:40):
Talking about your guys racist tropes.
Speaker 5 (01:08:42):
You know you got there.
Speaker 11 (01:08:43):
You guys know exactly what you do.
Speaker 9 (01:08:45):
Both a little bit sort of out there sensationalizing seems
to me.

On Eminem surprise fans at the Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions
game against the Green Bay Packers. The rapper joined rocker
Jack White on stage for the halftime show for a
mix of one of his own songs and a White

this month, signed a multi year entertainment deal with the Lions.
Chase Rice is taking a break from touring in twenty

the first year off in thirteen years for the forty
year old singer. The only shows on his schedule are
festival appearances at Stagecoach in California and Barefoot Country in

New Jersey. Rice, who played linebacker for the North Carolina
tar Heels, joked about returning to college football for a
sixth year and the Grand Old Abbrey celebrated one hundred
years with an all star show on Friday night in Nashville.
Nearly thirty artists, including Vince Gill, Bill Anderson, Scotti, McCreary,

event included tribute such as Ricky Skaggs playing Tennessee Wagoner

There is a new documentary on Netflix. I think it
is about Paul Anka, who wrote My Way for Frank
Sinatra and the Tonight Show theme for Johnny Carson. And
wouldn't you know, Page six on the New York Post
is pulling out an excerpt where Paul Anka was asked
(01:13:00):
in the promotion of this documentary about Frank Sinatra and
what he was like in the steam room. We'll leave
it at bat Paul Anka. Frank Sinatra used to call
him my little friend, Paul Anka. Let's just say Paul
Anka would not be using the word little to refer
(01:13:20):
to old blue eyes. Paul Anka has been on this
program and I've met him a number of times in
a number of different places, backstage and at the Polo
Lounge and in Frank Sinatra Junior gave an endorsement to
(01:13:40):
my book about J. P. McCarthy, So that's on the
back cover. And that was pretty cool because Frank Junior
called me in the middle of the night and he
left a voicemail and he told me what to say
on the back cover in the voicemail because he said,
oddly enough, I'm up in the wee small hours of
the morning. Yeah, that was pretty cool. It's Michael Patrick
(01:14:01):
Shields with you radio stations across the state of Michigan

Jasmine Crockett was talking about the FBI director Cash Patel,
and I think she was inferring that he probably ought
to get the same status as the Michigan State football
(01:14:23):
coach Jonathan Smith.
Speaker 44 (01:14:25):
Including this one because I did have to make sure
that I wasn't going crazy.
Speaker 14 (01:14:30):
But when I say that you are.
Speaker 44 (01:14:31):
The least qualified FBI director in the history of the FBI,
that is real because you are the only one that
never even served with the FBI prior to joining.
Speaker 11 (01:14:42):
Yet we are.
Speaker 44 (01:14:43):
Supposed to believe that you are the greatest thing since
slices bread.
Speaker 11 (01:14:46):
I didn't ask you a question.
Speaker 49 (01:14:48):
Now.
Speaker 44 (01:14:49):
What I want to fall through is to talk about
why you are a failure and why honestly, we just
need to tell you bye bye. I know that you
got a little upset and you put on your show
for your boss because it seems like you're trying to
save your job when it came to talking to Senator
Booker yesterday.
Speaker 9 (01:15:08):
Bye bye, Jesus, here's more of the congress woman, the
Democrat from Texas.
Speaker 44 (01:15:14):
I'll say it again, Donald Trump's mass deportation system makes
me think of what a modern day slave patrol would
look like. Slave patrols were armed groups empowered by the
government to control, intimidate, and terrorize people solely based on color.
Speaker 11 (01:15:30):
That's what's happening now.
Speaker 44 (01:15:32):
Donald Trump is sending mass agents without warrants into communities
of color to terrorize the people who live there. And
the reason that I want to make sure that I
draw out this link because we heard Maxine say that
black and brown is coming together?
Speaker 9 (01:15:47):
Does everyone anyone really believe that? Jasmine Crockett? Now, what
about the use of fear, What about the use of racism,
what about the use of class warfare? These are things
that have been going on forever, but they seem even
more just full of vitriol right now. Alissa slackin United
(01:16:08):
States Senator from Michigan, UH was one of those who
put out that video telling the troops, you know, not
to follow any orders from the president if they think
they're illegal. I'm paraphrasing, but isn't she using fear? Here?
Is the senator?
Speaker 50 (01:16:26):
Are you concerned that you and your other five colleagues
could end up getting in the crosshairs of Trump and
the Justice Department in terms of, say, I don't know
the Insurrection Act where they say that what you're doing
is you're undermining the government. Is that something you guys
have discussed isn't an issue?
Speaker 46 (01:16:45):
Yeah, most of us have discussed, certainly with our own teams,
and most of us have kind of a break glass
plan in case they come after us.
Speaker 11 (01:16:55):
I'll be honest.
Speaker 46 (01:16:56):
I mean, I've watched them go after my colleagues. I've
watched them go after people, you know who they just
don't agree with outside of government. And so anyone at
this point has to be realistic about that. And some
of the first texts I got when the video started
going viral was are you safe?
Speaker 11 (01:17:12):
Are you okay?
Speaker 43 (01:17:13):
Right?
Speaker 46 (01:17:14):
And I think that that, to me is just a
sad moment in our politics. But it's not going to
shut me up, and it's not going to shut up
others who have served. And because then that's what they want.
They want fear to be used as an effective weapon
so that critics of this administration shut the hell up.
Speaker 11 (01:17:34):
That's the point.
Speaker 46 (01:17:36):
And if we give in then they win, and I'm
just not going to do that.
Speaker 9 (01:17:41):
Why does it feel like they trolled the president and
then they got exactly what they wanted fear and victim,
et cetera, and so forth. It's Michael Patrick shields with you.
Chad liven Goood is writing that Michigan House Speaker Matt All,
an ethics reformer, got Lions tickets from a lancing lobbyist
(01:18:05):
fro himself and a family member, and he won't say
how much he paid for them. Meanwhile, he's blocking a
new foil bill that would shine light on lawmaker lobbyist relationships.
Reporting from Craig Mauger in the Detroit News, if you
want to see that, if you're worried about a legislator
getting some football tickets, I mean, don't we have bigger
things to worry about. I'm not. I don't know, and
(01:18:27):
I don't really care, But I just figure this kind
of thing goes on all the time. And there are
people to circle back to Alyssa Slockin who think that
the fear tactics that you just heard her use about
these you know, troops following orders not following orders? Is
she being blamed for that? Shooting. Well, it might not
(01:18:51):
be valid, but she is. And when you undermine the
military like that, it puts things in people's minds. There
you have it. Why do Haitians risk sailing nine hundred
kilometers and shark infested waters toward the evils of capitalism
(01:19:11):
that we have when they have a socialist paradise ninety
kilometers away in Cuba just asking people want to get
here so badly, and when they get here they say
death to America. Samps with you, and gosh, the Christmas
markets are on in Europe and there are Palestinian protesters
(01:19:33):
setting off smoke bombs and the Palestinian flag as religions
clash during the holiest season. Scary stuff from MPs.

To try to get people to run for off the
good people. That is, you get clowns and people interested
it's glory and money, But there are a lot of
people in politics who give good speeches, and they're fancy fancy,
but they're not really all that involved in making things work.
You've got to get the good peoples to run.
Speaker 9 (01:21:16):
In New York City, three hundred and twenty seven people
have accounted for one third of all the shoplifting arrests.
Those three hundred and twenty seven people have been arrested
six thousand times. In Oakland, four hundred people were responsible
for the majority of the homicides. I don't know what
(01:21:37):
you'd do with that kind of fuzzy math, but why
are they out running around in the streets. That's what
a simple question might be asked. It's Michael Patrick Shields

Here in BC News Radio. I'm Mark Mayfield. Venezuela is
accusing the US of murder after acknowledging publicly for the
(01:24:00):
first time that citizens were among those killed by US
strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean. Venezuelan National
Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said during a press conference there
was no declared war between the two nations, meaning things
cannot be classified as anything but murder. Rodriguez went on
to say every human being has the right to do process.
The US says the goal of the strikes is disrupting
(01:24:21):
illegal drug flow. The New York Times is reporting that
President Trump's proposed new ballroom is going to be big.
Rob Martyr reports.
Speaker 23 (01:24:28):
The new East Wing ballroom proposal would be larger than
the White House itself. Officials say plans are preliminary, but
that the latest idea calls for a ballroom much larger
than the West Wing and the Executive mansion. Trump has
also reportedly told people working on the ballroom that they
did not need to follow permitting, zoning or code requirements
because the structure is on White House grounds. I'm Rob Bartier.
Speaker 22 (01:24:51):
Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with the Ukrainian delegation
in Florida on Sunday. As peace talks to end the
war with Russia continue. Work is still being done to
iron out details of a US plan that has drawn
criticism for proposing Ukraine give up territory and make other
concessions to Russia. Rubio focused on reassuring Ukraine that it
would be free and prosperous after the war. The head
(01:25:11):
of Ukraine's delegation responded by thanking the US for its
efforts to support his country and said his team is
looking forward to a successful, productive meeting. Six and ten

The Denver Broncos defeated the Washington Commanders twenty seven to

to the latest from NBC News Radio.
Speaker 18 (01:25:48):
The FDA is planning to roll out new vaccine regulations
since the agency will cite COVID nineteen shots as contributing
to the deaths of at least ten children. In a
memolest Friday, Vina Prosad, the FDA's director of the Vaccine Division,
told agency staff the children had died after and because
of the COVID nineteen vaccine delta. Pissod said their deaths
(01:26:10):
were related to inflammation of the heart, known medically as myocarditis.
Pissad called it a profound revelation, noting it's the first
time the FDA will acknowledge COVID nineteen vaccines have killed
American children. The World Health Organization is called on countries

You're listening to Michael Patrick Shields and I am very
glad you are welcome to the program, pleased to be
with you. And doctor John Wycoff is settling in here
by the fire. He's going to spend some time with us, uh,
talking about your health during the holidays, because even when
I was a young person, it was always the excuse
(01:27:49):
you could say, well, it's the holidays. Should we have
another drink? Yeah, it's the holidays. What about a second
helping a you know, it's the holidays. You want dessert? Yeah, well,
of course it's the holidays. And so we rationalize and
we justify, and he's here to help us with that.
(01:28:10):
And he is a doctor who if you go and
see him at the Wycoff Wellness Center, he's going to
take some time with you. He's going to get at
the root causes of the things that might be hampering
you from having a quality lifestyle. And the bottom line
is doctor Wycoff. When you overeat or overdrink pretty much,
(01:28:30):
overdo anything, even exercise, there are side effects that come
with that. You're going to feel a hangover, you're going
to feel sluggish, you're going to feel full, all that
kind of thing.
Speaker 31 (01:28:42):
But hey, it's the holidays, right, Well, Michael, You're right,
that does happen, and human nature, being what it is,
has the way of justifying a lot of activities that
probably is not healthy.
Speaker 52 (01:28:58):
It just seems right, holidays and we should just indulge more.
But you know, our metabolism and our body is not
geared that way. And really, if our goal is to
live healthier and live longer and maybe add life to
our years, we do it to need more cognizant of
(01:29:19):
what we eat and drink on a day to day basis,
because there are ramifications of those choices we make that
don't always help improve our ability to live longer and
to live better.
Speaker 9 (01:29:34):
There's a movie out right now about Paul Anka, who
I can say is a friend of this program. He's
been on the radio and I've met him a bunch
of times, and nice fella, and he says the reason
he can still perform in his mid eighties, and he
has a very aggressive concert tour, a very energetic one too.
Is that he respects his body and he fasts one
(01:29:57):
day a week, he doesn't drink, eats the right thing things.
Can it really be that simple?
Speaker 52 (01:30:03):
Well, there is a whole science to just eating less,
and however you achieve that, whether it's with fasting or
chlorate control, that that will lead to a longer life
and a healthier life, and I mean significantly less. There's
a group of people that really do espouse the idea
(01:30:24):
that you know, sixty eight hundred calories per day is
really all you need to sustain yourself, and there's more
and more evidence that seems to be supporting that. But
I think it's hard for a lot of people. There's
a lot of cards that are dealt against us with
the American food system, foods that are high in sugar
and carbohydrates and chemicals and hormones that tend to promote
(01:30:47):
you wanted to eat more. So one of the things
that we've found that wife off wellness a very powerful
tool is to use the prescription GLP one drugs. Those
are like those zempi zen bound Manjaro with gov and
structure those in a way, even with low dose we
call it microdosing of those medications to really reduce the
(01:31:11):
cravings and reduce the amount of food that you're eating
in order to help you lose weight and get better
metabolic control on your life. So that's something we do
a lot of at Wycoff Longness.
Speaker 9 (01:31:25):
Have you seen a picture of Amy Schumer lately, the actress?
Speaker 52 (01:31:29):
You know, I'm not, but is she done on the gun?
On the shot?
Speaker 9 (01:31:32):
I don't know if she's on the jab or not,
but she's about a third of her previous size. And
you know, part of her bit was, you know that
she was the train wreck. She was kind of, you know,
a curvy girl, but now skin and bones.
Speaker 52 (01:31:49):
I would almost guarantee she's on the job. And really
almost anyone that you see today that has had you know, modesty,
significant weight loss is on the and the medications can
be used very safely. There are some side effects nauzioviolity, diarrhea, constipation, reflux,
(01:32:10):
but astute clinician can help you get through those. And
this is really where patients need someone like me at
White Off Wellness, and it's got the experience to help
them through this. These mail order systems and sets that
are available may initially be somewhat cost effective, but I
(01:32:30):
don't think you're able to get the support that you need,
the one on one help to guide you through the
myriad of problems that you almost always experienced and help
you get to the optimal dose to achieve your results.
But they are an amazing medication.
Speaker 9 (01:32:47):
You know, I'm a pro.
Speaker 52 (01:32:49):
You know, not use medications if we want, That's my
whole mantra. But this is one amazing class of drugs
that I fully support for many many people do as
they not only reduce weight, blood sugar, they're improving your
cardiovascular health. Published reports reducing risk of heart attacks are
(01:33:09):
struck by thirty percent, maybe reducing your risk of Alzheimer's, dementia,
your risk of addictions. All these things are being studied
and more and more positive long term results are coming out.
If you can get to some of the short term
side effects, you may be doing your life a lot
(01:33:29):
of benefit long term.
Speaker 9 (01:33:32):
Is it basically an appetite suppressant?
Speaker 52 (01:33:35):
You know, it's absolutely not. I think it's a common misunderstanding,
so thank you for the question. The medication works on
every cell in your body and your brain, and your
gut and your pancreas and your muscle, your liver. What
it does in terms of appetite is slows the emptying
of your stomach and the first part of your intestinal tract,
(01:33:57):
so you'd feel full sooner. But it really is not
an appetite suppressant in the classic sense of the older
class of medications. It does that by normal metabolic changes,
and it also may have an effect on some of
the chemicals in your brain that control appetite. So I
(01:34:19):
think there are multiple ways why you want ease less,
but the empithite suppression, even from the first dose is
really significant for many many patients.
Speaker 9 (01:34:32):
With a minute and a half left of somebody's listening
right now during the holidays, and they say, all right,
come January first, I'm doing it. How much is it
going to cost?
Speaker 52 (01:34:41):
You know, they can come in and see me and
we will. If they mentioned they heard this ad or
heard the suck, I'll give them twenty percent off their visit.
I will get them the first six to eight weeks
of therapy free. We're able to do that through the
companies we work with, and then the racing on the
medication has dropped significantly. Since the President puts some pressure
(01:35:05):
on these companies, we can get the first two months
of prescription would go vy for just one forty nine
a month, and then it goes up to three forty
nine a month, so it's become much more price competitive
and your insurance may cover it. We are empowered to
help you get that insurance reimbursement. It sometimes happens, it
(01:35:27):
sometimes doesn't, but let us help you through that process
and try to make that happen. So it may cost
you actually almost nothing per month to find that new
you and to do it with the professional guidance that
you need.

In VC news Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says
you will soon release the results of an MRI. He
had an octopover, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One,
this gn came back perfect. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah,
who has submitted a request for a pardon from the
country's President, Isaac Hertzog. More from Lisa Carton.
Speaker 29 (01:38:11):
Nettan Yaho is currently standing trial in his country for bribery, fraud,
and breach of trust. His request comes after President Trump
through his support behind a pardon for the Israeli prime minister.
In a letter to Herzog, Trump express that he quote
respects the independence of the Israeli justice system and its requirements,
but said the case against Nettan Yahoo is a political,
(01:38:32):
unjustified prosecution.

Churismus, We love you so did somebody say go blue

go to Tim Stout when we want this straight skinny
on what's going on the Dean who you can, by

the way, see in length on the Andrea Bood podcast,

became Tim Stout. But you listen to him every day
on AM seven thirty Lancing seven thirty. It's called where
you're listening to us right now in afternoon drive in
(01:39:38):
the Lansing area. And he's up been on television for
decades and radio for decades, and he knows the Spartans
inside and out, including the outgoing coach and the incoming one.
Thank you for being here. I don't want you to
spoil your own program because I'm sure people are dying
to hear what you're gonna say. But what was wrong
with Jonathan Smith? I've heard people describe him as weird?
Speaker 52 (01:40:01):
Was he?
Speaker 43 (01:40:03):
No?
Speaker 30 (01:40:03):
I don't think so at all. Michael, happy holidays to you,
Thank you. I think he's like a lot of coaches
at that level where much is given in terms of salary,
much as expected. It's a different world out there, as
you know, in college athletics anymore, and for the massive
investments which require more resources than what the universities have
(01:40:25):
themselves to offer, the return on the investment in terms
of winning is far greater. And in his case, he
isn't any different than a lot of other coaches. What's
different in today's world as they got through him with
two years. But now remember he might have even gotten
another year at Michigan State had the athletic director who
hired him in the first place, Alan Haller, still been there,
(01:40:48):
let alone the president still been there. But neither were,
and the new athletic director came in under the proviso
fixed football, and that's what he's hoping he can do
after four straight losing season. So I don't think there's
anything unique. The only the only reason people or goes
around the program thought he might get another years because
(01:41:10):
Michigan State is in such tremendous debt in the athletic
program in the athletic department and has been for a
number of years. Now, how they're going to foot this
bill remains to be seen.
Speaker 9 (01:41:21):
Thirty three million from what I read, And is mel
Tucker's eighty million still up in the air or has
that been decided in the courts?
Speaker 30 (01:41:28):
No that I think that could go past my lifetime
maybe yours, who knows. And you know, the court systems
with this stuff are so slow. The only thing that
could speed that thing up, to me is some kind
of a meek settlement, which may or may not come.
Michigan State obviously is trying to figure out any way
it can legally to avoid the issues with him.
Speaker 5 (01:41:51):
Excuse me.
Speaker 30 (01:41:52):
Moving forward, And when they talk about the thirty three
million to Jonathan Smith, remember now that's just him. There's
assistant coaches that are under content, several of whom make
more than a million dollars a year. So what the
commitment is to the rest of that staff leaving and
what the commitment's going to be to the staff incoming? Okay,
assuming that a formal announcement comes today or soon on
(01:42:14):
Pat Fitzgerald. You know, all of that gets added to
all this, and you gotta believe Michigan State felt this
was a desperation situation to take on more debt that
they're taking on trying to turn football around.
Speaker 9 (01:42:29):
Pat Fitzgeril got a lot of money from Northwestern for
wrongful dismissal over that naked hazing situation that went on.
How much is he going to get from Michigan State
to come back to coaching after all those years at Northwestern?
Speaker 30 (01:42:42):
Well, I'm going to guess he probably comes at a
much better rate for Michigan State if you go by
what others get who have a proven track record. He's
been out of coaching now for three years. He turns
fifty one years old tomorrow. He doesn't have to undo himself,
of course, from any school. And to your point, it
appears he got a very sizable settlement from Northwestern, which
(01:43:05):
ran that president out of the university. He's gone over
this issue that that president had with Pat Fitzgerald. The
question is is the three years of Pat Fitzgerald that
he was away, does that put him in the background
relative to how things work today. You know my thing
on this, Michael Pattrick. I don't care if they hire
(01:43:25):
Vince Lombardi in his prime, New Rockney or anybody else
to me in today's world, if you don't have players
on the field who could compete with those on the
other side of the ball, because you've got the resources
to pay to get those caliber players. In my judgment,
it doesn't make any difference who you recruit out of
high school or how good your ex's and o's are.
(01:43:46):
You have got to have the players that can compete
with the schedule you have, and Michigan State, amongst your schools,
evidently clearly did not have the players on the field
for Jonathan Smith.
Speaker 9 (01:43:57):
Do you think anybody at Michigan State, a trustee or
maybe professor, said we're going to hire a guy who
was involved in a naked hazing scandal after we've had
Mel Tucker and Larry Nassar at Michigan State.
Speaker 30 (01:44:09):
Had he not have had a settlement on a wrongful
termination of him, I think that would have been an issue,
But apparently it is not an issue, and I don't
think that was an issue in this. If I was
guessing what his salary is going to be. It'll be
in the neighborhood of sixty seven million dollars a year,
which is nowhere near the top. It's significant. Yes, you know,
(01:44:32):
it's in the Izzo neighborhood at Michigan State. Because the
football coach is always going to get that. My guess
is there will be a number of incentives in there
for him. Now, let's face it, he had no cards
to play because he was not employed anywhere else. It's
not like Lane Kiffin that you had to lure him
out of a big job in a big contract with
massive dollars. He won an opportunity at Michigan State's giving
(01:44:52):
him opportunity.
Speaker 9 (01:44:54):
Did you ever meet or interview the late Fuzzy Zeller?
Speaker 5 (01:44:58):
I did.
Speaker 30 (01:45:00):
I am seed a benefit he did in nineteen eighty
six at the country Club of Lansing after a kid
was very very badly injured in a lightning storm at
the Michigan Boy or Amateur and they brought Fuzzy Zeller
in from Fort Wayne where he left to just kind
of be around. A night of just everybody coming to
(01:45:22):
spend an evening with Fuzzy Zeller, and they then I
brought John Salvin's his name. He's still alive. He's in Marlette, Michigan.
His life, of course was completely alder badly. But yes,
Fuzzy Zeller was there that night in nineteen eighty six
that I remember introducing him and visiting with him.
Speaker 5 (01:45:39):
And he was good, you know, he was.
Speaker 30 (01:45:40):
Very friendly and very funny.
Speaker 9 (01:45:43):
Only forty seconds. But why did so many news outlets
have to put his drunken comments about Tiger Woods in
the first sentence.
Speaker 30 (01:45:50):
Of his Oh bit, So, the family was with us
at Thanksgiving and the first thing they said is can
you imagine the first thing they say about Fuzzy Zeller
is the offhand remark he made about Tiger Woods, And
that's in the first sentence of the story that he
has gone. That's the first thing I thought of, like
you did. I thought, that's why the news media today,
(01:46:11):
with so many people generally speaking, has the distrust that
many people have for it.
Speaker 9 (01:46:18):
You can find him lancing seven point thirty, timp stout
and on TV two and focus on one thing, our
insurance premiums. But what if we're only seeing part of
the picture. The truth is our health insurance costs reside
downstream at the end of the cost equation. But to
really understand what's driving up costs, we need to look
upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there are costs
(01:46:40):
like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors, and
the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology. These
costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium. That's
why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating for
a system wide solution to address the rising cost of healthcare.
Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs to work
(01:47:04):
for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts with shedding
light on the entire cost equation from upstream costs to
downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit mibluedaily dot com
slash affordability.
Speaker 34 (01:47:20):
Another Sunday of NFL action is in the books. The
Broncos stopped a two point conversion in overtime to beat
the Commanders twenty seven at twenty six on Sunday Night
Football in Landover. The Panthers put an end to the
Rams six game win streak with a thirty one to
twenty eight victory at Bank of America Stadium. Panthers QB
Bryce Young talked about the resilience of his team.
Speaker 35 (01:47:41):
You know, we know we have what it takes in
this building, and we know we don't worry about the
outside opinions. So for all of us, like you said,
short week holiday is all that everyone was super locked
in all week.
Speaker 34 (01:47:50):
The Seahawks trample the Vikings twenty six to nothing, The
Bills beat up the Steelers twenty six to seven on
the road, and the Chargers top the Raiders thirty one
to fourteen at SOFI Stadium. However, LA quarterback Justin Herbert
is set to undergo surgery on Monday after suffering a
broken bone in his hand in the wind and Lane
Kiffin is leaving old myths to become the head football

Speaker 9 (01:48:50):
You know, we heard Shador Sanders last hour when one
of the reporters tried to get him to criticize his
own coaching staff there. He's the quarterback at the Cleveland Browns,
and I see they do the same thing yesterday in
the post game for the Pittsburgh Stealers with Aaron Rodgers,
and he said he like held his breath for five
seconds after the question. He said, I see what you're
(01:49:10):
trying to do there, and you're not gonna get me
to do it. I believe in Mike Tomlin. That's the
reason I came here. And it just sort of circles
back to what Tim Stout was just saying, you know
about media and the fact that there's always the sensational
element of it. Get somebody to say something and then
run with it. So that was Aaron Rodgers yesterday. You
(01:49:32):
can listen to that if you want to, if you
want to seek out something like that, because you can
see and hear everything these days. It's Michael Patrick Shields
with you through the AT and T microphones. Tony Kuppers
has a lot to tell you about. They don't know
yet where the Wolverines are gonna go bowling, do you
then we do not.
Speaker 2 (01:49:49):
That's probably all gonna be delivered to us. On Sunday
after these conference championship games. Of course, it will be
Ohio State taking on the Indiana Hoosiers. And right now
Ohio State favor by five.
Speaker 9 (01:50:02):
In that game.
Speaker 2 (01:50:02):
We've seen their act. They're good Indiana, Let's see if
they can make it now. You did mention that whole
Buffalo Bills Pittsburgh Steelers game and Aaron Rodgers, he wasn't
that great. The crowd was chanting to fire Mike Tomlin,
who's been there forever.
Speaker 9 (01:50:16):
Believe it or not.
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
The Buffalo Bills. They racked up so many yards on there.
It was the most ever rushing yards at Hinz Field
in the history of that venue. And you think of
some of these great Steeler teams that have been there
and just locking down other offenses. Not the case yesterday.
And by the way, if you were ever Steel Curtain, no.
Speaker 8 (01:50:32):
Not at all.
Speaker 2 (01:50:33):
Yesterday maybe one of the worst NFL slates of my lifetime.
I feel like I believe all the good games were
either on Thanksgiving Day or on Friday, because there was
really nothing to sink your teeth into. Yesterday, your Dolphins
did win. They beat the Saints twenty one to seventeen.
That game was terrible. The Minnesota Vikings continue to slide
twenty six to nothing. They were blasted by the Seattle Seahawks.
(01:50:55):
So we can just move all that away and we
look forward to Thursday Night Football because that's where the
Lions will be as they bring in the Dallas Cowboys
at Ford Field. The Lions, as we know, not a
great showing against the Packers on Thanksgiving Day. They sit
at seven and five. The Cowboys are on fire three
in a row, six five and one on the season,
and in line to make the playoffs. Tonight, Monday Night Football,
we're going to continue the trend of bad games, the
(01:51:16):
New York Giants at the New England Patriots. The Pats
are good, so I expect this one probably to be
a blowout. That's brought to you by Dean Transportation.
Speaker 9 (01:51:26):
Dolphins are considered to be in the hunt according to
New will Mads Television, and if the Lions lose to
the Cowboys Thursday, the party's over, isn't it? I would think?
Speaker 2 (01:51:36):
So wrap it up breast players MPs back next Hour.
Speaker 22 (01:51:43):
In BC News Radio on Mark Mayfield, President Trump says
he will soon release the results of an MRI he
had in October. Trump told reporters of board Air Force One,
this game came back perfect. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nyahu
has submitted a request for a pardon from the country's President,
Isaac Hertzog.
Speaker 29 (01:51:59):
More from Lisa car Nettan Yahoo is currently standing trial
in his country for bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
His request comes after President Trump through his support behind
a pardon for the Israeli Prime minister. In a letter
to Herzog, Trump express that he quote respects the independence
of the Israeli justice system and its requirements, but said
the case against Nettan Yahoo is a political, unjustified prosecution.
Speaker 22 (01:52:23):
I'm Lisa Carton and Luigi Mangioni heads back to court
today as the Jo Jovin's pre trial hearings in New
York's case against him. He has pleaded not guilty to
killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan last December.

Speaker 24 (01:52:39):
Snow and heavy lake affec Snow are expected from the
upper Midwest into the Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast.
Speaker 15 (01:52:44):
Highs in the twenties and thirties.
Speaker 24 (01:52:46):
Chill and damp throughout the Mid Atlantic, with rain then
possibly changing to snow or sleet in the higher elevations.
Temperatures top out in the low forties. Sunshine dominates the
southeast from the Carolinas through Florida, with highs in the seventies.
Scattered showers are possible in parts of the Gulf Coast.
In the Deep South, especially near Louisiana and southern Mississippi,
a storm is rolling through the Midwest and northern plains,
(01:53:06):
bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and potential wide out conditions
in the central and southern plains. Sunny skies and northern
plains will top out in the thirties, while Texas and
Oklahoma warm into the low sixties. In the Southwest, sunshine
across Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico, where highs will hit
the low eighties, and there's plenty of sunshine in California,
with coastal highs in the mid sixties.
Speaker 15 (01:53:26):
DeLand valleys topping out in the low eighties.
Speaker 24 (01:53:28):
In the Pacific Northwest, expects steady rain and mountain snow
from Seattle to Portland and through the Cascades with temps
in the low fifties. That's your national forecast. I'm Tammy Triheo.
Speaker 22 (01:53:52):
In BC News Radio. I'm Mark Mayfield. Venezuela is accusing
the US of murder after acknowledging publicly for the first
time that citizens were among those killed by US strikes
on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean. Venezuela National Assembly
President Jorge Rodriguez said during a press conference there was
no declared war between the two nations, meaning things cannot
be classified as anything but murder. Rodriguez went on to
(01:54:15):
say every human being has the right to do process.
The US says the goal of the strikes is disrupting
illegal drug flow. The New York Times is reporting that
President Trump's proposed new ballroom is going to be big.
Rob Martyr reports.
Speaker 23 (01:54:27):
The new East Wing ballroom proposal would be larger than
the White House itself. Officials say plans are preliminary, but
that the latest idea calls for a ballroom much larger
than the West Wing and the Executive mansion. Trump has
also reportedly told people working on the ballroom that they
did not need to follow permitting, zoning or code requirements
because the structure is on White House grounds. I'm Rob Bartier.
Speaker 22 (01:54:50):
Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with the Ukrainian delegation
in Florida on Sunday. As peace talks to end the
war with Russia continue. Work is still being done to
iron out details of a US plan that has drawn
criticism for proposing Ukraine give up territory and make other
concessions to Russia. Rubio focused on reassuring Ukraine that it
would be free and prosperous after the war. The head
of Ukraine's delegation responded by thanking the US for its
(01:55:12):
efforts to support his country and said his team is
looking forward to a successful, productive meeting. Six and ten
full time employees say they plan to look for Cyber
Monday deals while at worked this year, Tammy Trujillo has more.
Speaker 24 (01:55:24):
Most of them say they don't feel guilty about it
because everybody does it. That's according to a survey by
Coupon follow Throughout the rest of the year, employees spent
an average of nearly two and a half hours a
week shopping online during work.

I'm Tammy trueO and the Denver Broncos defeated the Washington
Commanders twenty seven to twenty six in overtime on Sunday
Night Football. You're listening to the latest from NBC News Radio.
Speaker 38 (01:55:47):
The holidays are a make it or break at time
for the restaurant industry, which has been struggling this year.
They're asking customers to pay with cash or a debit
card so they don't have to pay the credit card
company's swipe feest.
Speaker 39 (01:55:58):
It's essentially the processing fees that Visa MasterCard in the
large banks charged that business for using that form of payment.
Speaker 38 (01:56:07):
Kelsey Ericsson Struefert with the Texas Restaurant Association says that
swipe fees are their member's third largest expense. Same thing
at small businesses. They too, are asking customers to avoid
credit cards if they can.
Speaker 39 (01:56:19):
That business is losing anywhere from two and a half
percent to four percent of that revenue.
Speaker 38 (01:56:26):
Some new business owners are surprised how fast the swipe
fees add up. In a few years, California could get
its first ever gas pipeline directly connected with the refineries
in the Midwest. Daniel Martindale explains pipeline is being proposed
by Phillips sixty six and Kinder Morgan.
Speaker 40 (01:56:43):
The Western Gateway Pipeline project could deliver gasoline, diesel, and
jet fuel from as far east as Missouri by twenty
twenty nine. The pipeline would run to Colton and San
Bernardino County. Companies say the project could supply two hundred
thousand barrels of refined gasoline or diesel directly to California
and Arizona each day. I'm Daniel Martindale.
Speaker 38 (01:57:01):
Travel In Leisure magazine is out with its top twenty
five Best Christmas Towns in the US. Third place is
Santa Fe, New Mexico, where instead of modern day led
string lights, you may see a trail of lanterns instead.
Santa Rosa Beach, Florida came in second with its white
sand beaches you may forget it's Christmas. And Levenworth, Washington,
(01:57:21):
took the top spot. It's located in Washington's Cascade Mountains,
but the editors say it looks more like a portal
to Germany and is reminiscent of the Alps. More than
half a million lights go up across town in late
November and they don't come down until February. Plus lots
of activities like gingerbread house displays, caroling, and frequent appearances
(01:57:42):
by Santa. I'm Monica Nelson with your consumer and business news.
Speaker 34 (01:57:45):
Another Sunday of NFL action is in the books. The
Broncos stopped a two point conversion in overtime to beat
the Commanders twenty seven to twenty six. On Sunday Night
football in Landover, the Panthers put an end to the
Rams six game win streak with a thirty one to
twenty eighth victory at Bank of America Stadium. Panthers QB.
Bryce Young talked about the resilience of his team.
Speaker 35 (01:58:06):
You know, we know we have what it takes in
this building, and we know we don't worry about the
outside opinions. So for all of us, like you said,
short week holidays, all that, everyone was super locked in
all week.
Speaker 34 (01:58:16):
The Seahawks trample the Vikings twenty six to nothing, The
Bills beat up the Steelers twenty six to seven on
the road, and the Chargers top the Raiders thirty one
to fourteen at SOFI Stadium. However, La quarterback Justin Herbert
is set to undergo surgery on Monday after suffering a
broken bone in his hand in the wind and Lane.
Kiffin is leaving Old miss to become the head football

potential whiteout conditions in the central and southern plains.
Speaker 15 (01:59:20):
Sunny skies the northern plains.
Speaker 24 (01:59:22):

Speaker 15 (01:59:44):
That's your national forecast. I'm Tammy Triheo.
Speaker 1 (01:59:55):
Live across the Great Lake State. You are connected to
Michigan's most in kJ influential radio and television program, Michigan's
Big Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, presented by Blue Cross,
Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network.
Speaker 2 (02:00:10):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.
Speaker 1 (02:00:13):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.
Speaker 9 (02:00:25):
Rams and the Capital of the world. Miami Maidens, the
time has come.
Speaker 22 (02:00:31):
Listen to this for the triumphant return.
Speaker 14 (02:00:35):
I'm the great one.
Speaker 5 (02:00:37):
Ah sweet, it is Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.
Speaker 9 (02:00:42):
Good morning world being Venido Amiami. It's Michael Patrick Shields
radio stations across the state of Michigan worldwide at m
I Bigshow dot Com. That's right. And yesterday the Dolphins
were winners. Believe it or not. They beat the Saints
in the rain and CBF Sports is saying they might
(02:01:04):
make the playoffs after all. Good luck to the Finns.
And also in Miami today February first, the reopening, the
reopening of Torono Sibido. Why do I talk about that. Well,
our friend Masimo Batura, the chef from Italy who we
interviewed on this program in Italy, in his backyard, in
(02:01:26):
his garage back in May is the sort of well,
the mastermind behind Torno Sabido, which translates to mean I'll
be right back December one. Today his restaurant is reopening
in Miami in the Moor, in the Design District, and
so those of you can want to score a table
(02:01:46):
and enjoy the work of Massimo Batura. When I say
the work, his food is artwork. To be sure, you
can go there to Torno Sabido and the chef Bernardo Palladini.
We'll be looking after you there. So there's lots of news.
And by the way, when your food is artwork, it's
a very good thing to be opening now because art
Basel is on in Miami, and you know and I
(02:02:07):
know that as we make our way through the year,
there are events around the world that we celebrate, the
Winter Carnival in Quebec City, the running of the bulls
in Pamplona, even the Olympics. Now that's not every year,
but it's coming up. And we were the first radio
broadcast to emanate from the US headquarters, the broadcast headquarters
(02:02:33):
for the Olympics in Milan two months ago at the
NH City Life. And considering that the World Cup is
coming to America this summer and Miami is one of
the major cities, I might stretch so far as to
say we were the first radio broadcast to come from
Loewe's Miami Beach Hotel, which of course will be full
up for the World Cup. And that's one of the
(02:02:55):
reasons they put in lots and lots of money in renovating.
So we bring to the radio stage now the complex
managing director of two hotels in fact in Miami Beach,
both Lowe's Hotels, Lowe's Miami Beach and Lowe's Coral Gables.
Lukachuk is back with us. Thank you for being here
and welcome back to the program.
Speaker 10 (02:03:16):
Good morning, Michael. It's nice to talk to you. It's
been a while. Thank you for having me.
Speaker 9 (02:03:21):
It just occurred to me. Do the Dolphins ever play
the New York Giants? And if they do, what happens
at Lowe's there since the Tishes owned that hotel.
Speaker 10 (02:03:32):
Yeah, it might be an exception where I would actually
support the.
Speaker 5 (02:03:37):
New York Giants.
Speaker 9 (02:03:41):
Well, I don't blame you. That's called a political expediency.
And you are a diplomat after all, and you have
to be because seventeen stories on Miami Beach opening in
nineteen ninety eight, the world comes to Miami. It is
the most international, wouldn't you say of America cities?
Speaker 10 (02:04:01):
I would say so. I mean, I was looking at
some data that came out of the str STR reports
all things about travel industry, and they were saying that
Miami depends on the international traveler more than any other
city in the world, followed by New York City and Honolulu.
Speaker 9 (02:04:22):
So you try to make people feel at home. And
you know, when we think of a Miami hotel, particularly
one on the beach, it would be easy to default to,
you know, aqua and orange like the dolphins, and you
know that whole Miami kind of neon kind of look.
That's not what Los is like, though, is it.
Speaker 10 (02:04:42):
No, not at all, and that neon look. I think
it has changed over the years. There's still elements of that,
but as far as the Loos Miami Beach Hotel is concerned,
especially after our most recent design, and I hope you
can come by with it us so you can see
it for yourself, Michael. But it is very different now.
(02:05:03):
The color palette is very different and overall the textures
are different. The property looks a lot different than it
used to be. We are more about coastal living, elegant
coastal living, elevated coastal living. Of course, we'd still try
to showcase our beach, which seems to be a super
(02:05:25):
valuable part of our city. Nevertheless, the Lows Miami Beach
hotel is not about just the neons and colorful, colorful
orange colors.
Speaker 9 (02:05:36):
As you mentioned, having said that, you're in a prime
spot because you're right where the Lincoln Mall is and
that's an outdoor sort of boulevard. You've got ocean drive
with all the nightlife of Deco drive if you will,
right at your doorstep, and a beach on the other side.
Fantastic stuff. And yeah, you've taught us a business lesson
because you say that you know, unless you're advancing and
(02:05:58):
renovating and sort of recreating yourself, you'll lose a position
in the market. And in order to do that, For instance,
you went to I understand hard floors because in your
mind that represents luxury.
Speaker 10 (02:06:13):
No, absolutely so. Our last renovation, Michael, was in twenty sixteen,
and the hotels typically, depending on the market, but typically
get renovated after twelve to fifteen years, and we only
renovated back in twenty sixteen. But as you stated, we
wanted to reinvent ourselves and we did just that, and
(02:06:35):
we believe in reinvesting in the property so that we
can continue leading the market. And as far as the
hard floors, yeah, there are certain elements that gives you
the feeling of luxury and elevated experiences, and hard floors
happens to be one of them. You know, our guests
when they walk into our newly redesigned rooms, they're going
(02:06:58):
to see some differences. They're going to see the hard floors,
They're going to see the TV is mounted on the wall.
It's going to have a lot more residential feel and
look to it. And we are super excited about our
new product and we can't wait to showcase it.
Speaker 9 (02:07:14):
So the balance is you have a combination of business travelers,
you have vacationers. Some of them want to feel like
they're on vacation and some of them at the same
time want to feel the comforts of home. And it's
a funny how a little thing like having the TV
up on the wall instead of like it used to be,
sitting on top of the credenza can give them the
(02:07:37):
space they need these days. Right, I mean, it's function
and form, is it not?
Speaker 10 (02:07:43):
It?
Speaker 5 (02:07:43):
Sure is?
Speaker 19 (02:07:44):
It?
Speaker 10 (02:07:44):
Sure is? And it's very important for a hotel like
ours to create two separate experiences because we are a
family friendly beachfront resort and at the same time, a
conventional hotel so if you're here for a convention, in
a meeting, to make sure that your mindset is all
about business, and at the same time, if you're here
(02:08:06):
just to enjoy yourself and enjoy the resort, that's again
my job to make sure that I had enough touch
points and I created an enough environment for you so
that you know that you're checking into a hotel that's
in front of the ocean and you're here to relax
and enjoy yourself.
Speaker 9 (02:08:24):
Well, we are going to turn one of your rooms
into a radio studio as we have in the past,
in just a couple of weeks when we broadcast from
Lowe's Miami Beach Hotel. We'll continue with the complex managing
director at Low's, Lukachuk with Michael Patrick Shields. Everybody knows
I love Miami and so we're happy to bring our
microphones back to their skyline studio in a.
Speaker 12 (02:08:49):

The only shows on his schedule are festival appearances at

who played linebacker for the North Carolina tar Heels, joked
about returning to college football for a sixth year, and
the Grand Old Abbrey celebrated one hundred years with an

all stars show on Friday night in Nashville. Nearly thirty artists,
including Vince Gill, Bill Anderson, Scotty McCreery, and Pam Tillis
performed to celebrate the historical case. The event included tributes
such as Ricky Skaggs playing Tennessee Wagoner on the original
fiddle used in the first Opry performance in nineteen twenty five.
(02:12:10):
The Opry treated fans to a mix of music, video montages,
and special one night only merchandise.

That's entertainment. I'm Jacklin, Carl.

Why don't you plan a trip for Christmas? It's Michael
Patrick shields with you, or give a trip, give the
gift of travel. Remember in my book invite yourself to
the party. The theory was I'd rather have roses on
my table than diamonds on my fingers, and travel is
something that they can never take away from you and
experience unforgettable. Read my travel writing every other Sunday in
(02:13:03):
the Lansing State Journal. That's going at newspapers part of
the USA Today Network and Yahoo News and at go

Less than Torrid Tales, is available at Amazon dot com.
We thank Capital Region International Airport at fly Lancing dot com.
They can easily get you to Florida or anywhere you
(02:13:24):
want to go. And visit Detroit too if you're going
down to the d Of course, the Lions are hoping
to make the playoffs and then they'll have to travel
to do it. Right now, it's only a forty six
percent chance. Some of the world's greatest events we mark
on this program and we celebrate them as we pass
(02:13:44):
the time. Octoberfest, for instance, Da de las Buertos in Mexico,
the Calgary Stampede, Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and at
Rio de Janeiro. The Confilm Festival is another one. But
Art Basel Miami is taking place right now, and you
may ask what is that. Well, Lukachuk is the complex
(02:14:07):
managing director in the middle of it all at Lowe's
Miami Beach Hotel and Lowe's Coral Gable Hotel, and he's
going to explain to us why Art Pazzle is on
that list of the world's greatest and most well sort
of sought after events. Thank you for being here. What
is art Puzzle?
Speaker 10 (02:14:26):
Yeah, so it's arguably it's it's the most famous art
event of the of the world. It's one of the
most important events for the year for us. It also
symbolizes the beginning of the season for us Michael. For
a week, basically Miami becomes the art capital of the world.
Both of our properties, Lowe's Miami Beach Hotel and Lowe's
(02:14:50):
Coral Gables have activations that integrate the properties with the
events taking place in the city. But we will the city,
we will, we will host and will welcome art lovers
from all around the world. And I mean you name
the country. The chances are we are going to have
some guests from those countries. So this is one of
(02:15:12):
the most important events for the city of Miami.
Speaker 9 (02:15:17):
If we watch sort of the gossipy newspapers and so forth,
the New York Post, TMZ, etc. We'll also see that
a huge number of notable people descend on Miami. They
come there for Art Basel to look at art, but
also to attend the parties, right, celebrities and that kind
of thing.
Speaker 10 (02:15:36):
Yes, absolutely, there's gonna be a lot of celebrities in town.
There's gonna be a lot of people who want to
be part of this art event. Some come in, as
you stated, to just for the arts and you know,
purchase some arts, enjoy some art shows and some others.
They want to be here so that you know they're
not missing out and they get to be seen and
(02:15:59):
they get to enjoy what Miami offers, especially at this
time of the year.
Speaker 9 (02:16:05):
We've had for many, many years and JP McCarthy before me,
Albert SCALLIONI who was a very major art dealer in
Michigan and in Florida in Miami there too, So we
turned to him from time to time when there are
art stories because they are very fascinating. And I suppose
that art basil crowd might be still buzzing about what
(02:16:25):
took place at the Louver in Paris earlier this year.
I didn't think in the modern era and art heist
like that could take place, but it did.
Speaker 10 (02:16:34):
Yeah, that was a fascinating event. Nobody thought that could happen.
And following the event, the way that whole investigation went through,
that was absolutely amazing to watch. I'm sure they'll make
TV series after that incident.
Speaker 9 (02:16:50):
They will. And so you said that Lowe's Miami Beach
Hotel and Coral Gables will engage somehow with activations to
bring in the art basal crowd and the spirit of art. Puzzle,
can you tell us specifically what?
Speaker 5 (02:17:06):
Sure?
Speaker 10 (02:17:07):
Absolutely, so, when we have large events like this, it's
really important that our properties integrate well and reflect what's
happening in the city within our property. So, for example,
for the Low's Miami Beach Hotel, every year we have
an artist in residence, and this year it's Steph Ross.
(02:17:27):
She's from Chicago. She's a Chicago based artist and she's

Artists are eccentric necessarily. In your experience of dealing with
celebrities and eccentric artists, what stands out as, for instance,
an example that you find in your mind's eye when
you think of art.
Speaker 10 (02:18:16):
Yeah, so they are. They are eccentric, that's for sure.
Speaker 5 (02:18:20):
It does.
Speaker 10 (02:18:20):
It does make it a little bit easier because they

I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.
Speaker 25 (02:27:02):
Outside it's cold side.
Speaker 9 (02:27:12):
It's not cold at fire Keepers. The very name of
the place warms our hearts, fire Keepers. And when you
pull up there, there's a fountain of fire right out
front to keep you nice and warm and melt the snow.
And hopefully you'll have a hot time getting your vegas
on as we always do. And we will be live
(02:27:34):
from fire Keepers Casino on the Friday before Christmas six
to nine am, right on the money Keeper's main stage,
and I hope you will join us there. Wake up
that morning before you go to the office, and say
let's go roll the bones and see MPs over at
fire Keepers, no charge. Walk right in. You'll find us
in the middle of the casino floor waiting for you.
(02:27:58):
I'll tell you where it is cold right now, Northern
Michigan and the way down on the bottom of the
Straits of Mackinaw. You have the line five pipelines. Well,
they're going to be tucked away too. Two hundred feet
below in the bedrock. When Enbridge Energy finishes their tunnel
project there, that's what's going on the Great Lakes Tunnel.
They're going to spend five hundred million dollars to do
(02:28:18):
it and put those pipelines that have been safely operating
for more than sixty years underneath the bottom and other
service elements connecting the Upper Peninsula with the Lower Peninsula.
And Ryan Duffy from Enbridge Energy talked about other tunnel
projects happening all around the country.
Speaker 49 (02:28:34):
Tunnels are everywhere. Most of the time, we don't think
too much about them, and the number is growing now
because there are right now at least thirty major tunnel
projects underway in the country, totaling about fifty billion dollars.
So those are being built under cities, you know, through mountains,
underwater used for traffic, drinking water, storm water, so those
(02:28:57):
are needed there critical infrastructure. There's actually plans the tunnel
from the Nashville Airport to the downtown area. There's two
tunnels happening right now in Virginia. Around the world, there's
big projects. Norway's planning to build the world's longest subsea
tunnel and it's going to have a highway in it there.
(02:29:18):
So all these tunnels projects are happening, and and our tunnel,
of course will be twenty feet wid at the pipeline
along one side of the tunnel, and then they'll be
roomed for other utilities to go inside it, potentially high
speed fiber cable.
Speaker 9 (02:29:34):
I told you that we're going to be broadcasting from
fire Keepers on the Friday before Christmas in Battle Creek
ninety four right where sixty nine kind of crosses in there.
And a few days later, on December twenty second, just
a few days before Christmas, the Grand Slot Tournament will
take place. Put these on your calendar. Bonnie Schivstrocher is
(02:29:55):
with us, the slot shift manager at fire Keepers Casino.
Thank you for being here in Happy holidays.
Speaker 36 (02:30:03):
Happy holidays to you.
Speaker 9 (02:30:05):
How does the Grand Slot Tournament work?
Speaker 56 (02:30:08):
Oh, the Grand Slot Tournament. So on Monday, December twenty second,
the top ten finalists of each week's slot tournament winners,
they'll earn a spot in the Grand Slot Tournament. You
could win top prizes of ten thousand cash and fifteen
thousand Red Hot credits. And there's still time to.
Speaker 9 (02:30:26):
Qualify up to and over one hundred and fifty thousand
when you add it all up, and you could win
the top prize of ten thousand, as you say, in
fifteen thousand in credits. How do you qualify? We've got
what till December twenty second, but how do we get in?
Speaker 56 (02:30:45):
So the top ten winners of our weekly slot tournaments
should receive an imitation to this grand slot tournament. So
the guests who receive this invite will be eligible.
Speaker 9 (02:30:58):
What day of the week are the weekly slot tournaments?
How much does that cost and how does that work?
Speaker 38 (02:31:07):
Yeah, so you.
Speaker 56 (02:31:10):
Earn fifty points on your red Hot Rewards card and
you're eligible to play, and those are every Monday, Monday.
Speaker 9 (02:31:21):
We hate Mondays otherwise, but we love them at fire
Keepers because we can get in the slot tournament there.
Red Hot Rewards card doesn't cost you anything to get,
and when you put it in the machines or at
the table games, anytime you're playing, you're building credits, you're
building rewards, and that's how you get I think the
credits that you're talking about. I didn't realize too that
(02:31:42):
you also have Kynot tournaments.
Speaker 43 (02:31:46):
Uh, yes, yes we do.
Speaker 56 (02:31:48):
We don't currently have one scheduled out yet, but there's
should be one maybe beginning of year.
Speaker 9 (02:31:56):
What is the secret to winning at slots?
Speaker 56 (02:32:01):
The secret to winning our spots?
Speaker 10 (02:32:05):
Well, that's just the luck and magic right.
Speaker 9 (02:32:10):
In that order, I guess, because you know, sometimes people
have a system or they say, oh that machine's hot,
I'm gonna play that one. Or they might say that
machine just hit, that's not going to hit again for
a while. There's no there's no logic to any of that,
is there? Or is there? And are there are there
slot machines in certain parts of the casino that pay
(02:32:32):
better than others?
Speaker 56 (02:32:37):
Well, I mean I would say the more you buy
probably is the better off you are and possibly winning.
But ultimately it's just a random number generator. So it's
it is literally random your wins.
Speaker 9 (02:32:56):
Yeah, you can play even on a penny machine. You
can play some of the lines or all of the lines,
and so it's more than a penny of course to
play all those lines and to do that. But if
it's confusing, if you walk up and you know there's
videos going on and cartoons and all kinds of action,
if you were to ask somebody teach me how to
(02:33:18):
play this machine, are there people around that could do that?
And what is the w ee A culture?
Speaker 33 (02:33:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 56 (02:33:26):
Absolutely, we have our slot representatives here to service our guests. Actually,
our guests are main focus here. So the WE is
the acronym. It's an internal guest service culture of ours.
F fire Keepers the acronym for welcoming, engaging, enthusiastic, and appreciative.
(02:33:49):
So that's our guest service standard and it describes how
our team members approach and fallow through with each guest interaction.
Speaker 9 (02:33:57):
Well, that's something we can learn in our own business
or at home too. It's welcoming, engaging.
Speaker 56 (02:34:04):
What are the other two enthusiastic and appreciative?
Speaker 9 (02:34:08):
Enthusiastic and appreciative. So let's see when your spouse is
coming home today to try this. We A culture be welcoming, engaging, enthusiastic,
and appreciative, and you might get surprised at the result.
I suppose that's why people who come to FireKeepers feel
so welcome and happy, because that is the secret. How
(02:34:31):
do you teach that to someone or do you hire
the right people who already have that attitude or is
it a combination?
Speaker 56 (02:34:37):
Maybe absolutely a combination. We work on our way of
skills all the time here in the spots department and
fire Keepers in general. But you know, trying to find
the right person of hire is our goal.
Speaker 9 (02:34:56):
Welcoming, engaging, enthusiastic and appreciative. It is what you will
find at fire Keepers Casino. And you might even win
yourself a slot tournament you'll definitely or a Keno event too.
