Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hello.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
My name is Michael Dawson. You're host of scores my
Sinci small business store Praise. In this episode, I'll be
talking with Patti Foster, a Score volunteer and chairperson of
Scores Confluence. More about that after this message.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Did you know twice as many small businesses survive past
five years when they have the support from a mentor.
My sincey small business story is brought to you by
the volunteer mentors of SCORE Greater Cincinnati, a nonprofit organization
that helps launch hundreds of new small businesses and even
more jobs in Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Indiana every year.
Our vision is to give every person the support they
(00:40):
need to thrive as a small business owner. Visit score
dot org slash Greater Cincinnati to request a free business
mentor or share your own expertise. You can also listen
and subscribe for more stories about overcoming challenges, clearing obstacles,
and owning a successful small business.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Welcome, Patti, How are you doing.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I'm Michael, I'm great. Thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
I'm doing well. Thank you. I'm so excited to talk
to you about Confluence. Tell us a little bit about Confluence.
How does it fit into SCORES mission and when's it happening?
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Oh well, thank you for that. Confluence fits perfectly in
SCORES mission because we are all about mentoring and education,
and this confluence is an in person conference. It provides
us great opportunity for small business owners and their supporters
to gather together, learn a ton of useful information, and
(01:32):
also benefit from all the networking of being in person
with each other and with our exhibitors and with our sponsors.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
So it fits neatly into our mission.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
We hope that all of our members will come, all
that our all of our clients will come, and we're
hoping that people who might not yet be familiar with
SCORE will also come and get the benefit. And as
for the details, the when, the where, et cetera. It's
going to take place on September seventeenth, that's a Wednesday.
The venue is Matthew twenty five Ministries in Blue Ash.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
They've got a beautiful conference.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Space that we're going to be in and we are
hoping everybody will get registered and join us there and
I'll just slip in now. The way to get registered
is to go to score dot org forward Slash Greater Cincinnati.
That takes you to our website, and on that website
you will find a link to get registered.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
So what's the theme this year for Confluence?
Speaker 4 (02:27):
I think the theme is going to be really appropriate
for a lot of people. We are talking about how
to deal with a changing, uncertain environment. That's what we're
hearing from so many of our clients and our colleagues
is that right now everything seems to be in a
state of flux, and sometimes that can feel so threatening,
especially a small business owner who's just looking at this
(02:49):
from the outside and trying to.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Adjust what they do to be successful.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
So we are bringing in a lot of expertise and
a lot of advice and practical tools to help people
see this not necessarily as a threatening moment, but as
an opportunity try and look that changing environment straight in
the face and respond to it and come out successful.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Who's the keynote this year?
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Oh, We've got a great keynote. Carl Sadder White is
our keynote speaker this year. He has got a great
story to tell about. He became president and owner of
RCF Group, a big national corporation. He started as an
employee working with Procter and Gamble and then became an
(03:32):
entrepreneur and eventually, through community engagement and through his own
expertise and his own resilience, became the president and CEO
of this great, big company here in Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
So, yeah, great story. We're excited for him to be there.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
So I know you're going to have panelst What topics
will your panelists cover during the course of the events.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
We are coming at this from such a broad angle
because this change we talked about impacts just about every
area of someone's business. So we will have a panel
of speakers talking about financial strategies, really nuts and bolts,
things like what should your cash flow look like and
how much cash should you have on hand? How should
you be thinking about your suppliers and ordering, and all
(04:19):
kinds of very practical strategies to deal with a changing environment.
We then also have speakers that are going to be
dealing with this changing environment through a marketing lens. How
should you think about the product you're offering and your
customers and how should you be approaching them in this
position where things are in a state of flux for
(04:40):
them as well as for you. And then another big
topic we're covering is just progress.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
An ai AI is one of those.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Topics that seems to change every twenty minutes, and it
is such a valuable tool.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
And the hope is.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
That if we can bring people up to date with
what it can do, we can make sure that all
the people in a tendants are making the best use
of it and helping themselves however they need to.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Who should attend this, I mean really gets down to it.
Is this open to anyone who has a business or
maybe be thinking about starting a business.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
I would say absolutely anyone. Yeah, everyone is welcome, and
I'm sure there's going to be nuggets of information for
everyone to use. We do particularly stress that small business
owners are going to be helped by this information. We're
talking directly to them. We also want the people who
are supporting small business owners in their lives to attend.
(05:35):
They can share this information. Mentors of Score can share
this information with any of their clients who aren't in
the room. So we really are hoping to have a
broad reach and speak to everyone. Oh and there's one
topic that should be of interest to everybody that I
haven't mentioned yet. Well, actually two of them. One we
have Jackie Rowe from Game Day going to be there,
(05:56):
and she has got a topic called twenty eight days Challenge.
She's going to be kind of combining this AI and
also this marketing strategy, and she's going to be talking
about twenty eight days of using AI prompts to improve
your marketing but also just to improve your life. So
I can't wait for that presentation myself. And then we
(06:18):
also have a therapist who's going to be with us,
because we realize your business doesn't just have to be strong,
you have to be strong.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
In your business.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
So we have got a presentation about resilience and how
to make sure that you are showing up your best
in your business. So again a broad reach, I would
say just about everybody can find something useful in this lineup.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Now, in the past, SCORE has offered free speed mentoring.
Will that be an option this year?
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Oh yes, In fact, that's going to be an even
bigger option. And we've had a lot of feedback in
past years about how that's been a really valuable component.
And of course we talked at the beginning about how
this fits in with SCORES. May mentoring is what we do,
that's our bread and butter. So at this event, we
make sure that everybody has an opportunity to engage with
(07:08):
a speed mentor, someone who will listen to you right
there on the spot and give you a nuggative information
or a nuggative coaching that might be helpful and also
potentially get you signed up for a free mentor, because
that's what Score offers.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Well, Patty, we're getting close to the end. Why don't
you give us the details once more about the where
it's located, when and so forth.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Fantastic.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Yes, we are talking about September seventeenth, but the sign
up is happening right now, and we urge people to
get signed up early. We actually have a re registration,
an online registration price that is advantageous forty nine dollars
if you sign up now, it's a seventy nine dollars
value if you wait. The way to get signed up
is www dot score dot org forward slash Greater Cincinnati.
(07:56):
That'll take you to our website and on September seventeen,
you'll get yourself to Matthew twenty five Ministries.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
That's where we'll be located.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
We're going to start the program at about nine o'clock,
wrap up by three point thirty, and we hope to
see everyone there.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
