Speaker 2 (00:05):
Welcome to the Bison Basketball Show with head coach David
Richmond on the Pioneer Seeds Bison Sports Network from lear Field.
Now for the latest on NDSU men's basketball. Here's the
Voice of the Bison, Sam Niederman.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Alrighty, ladies and gentlemen, Bison Nation, welcome on into the
holiday and you're in Fargo and is Monday night, and
that means it is time for another edition of the
Bison Basketball Coaches Show. Come on now, I think we
could get a little louder than that here in late February,
two weeks away from Sue Falls getting this thing going

(00:43):
before the postseason. We've got coach Richmond here with us.
Let's give it on up. Come on now, it's basketball
season here in Fargo. We're down the Hope Strats. Appreciate
everybody being here. That's a little more like it. Coach.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
We got a couple guys over here that just walked
in or wonder what's going on. They don't know about
Monday buys and parties.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
No, but they've just become part of it.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Though.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
I think that's the case.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Those are the best kind of parties.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Yeah, yeah, So welcome to everybody. We appreciate you being here,
and I hope you're gonna enjoy what we've got for
you for the next hour and a half or so.
It is the Buys and Basketball Show. If you're new,
thanks for coming on out. If you've been here before,
we appreciate you coming back. We've got so much to do.
We have ticket giveaways tonight as always. We're down to

(01:28):
three games coach total across both of our programs, men's
and women's, and it's gonna be Senior Night for us,
just forty eight hours away from now. We're gonna be
tipping things off. Last home game for five seniors.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
This is crazy. And I think the other piece too,
is man just a little bit of literally light. You know,
there's some sun off there today, there's some melt going
on the last couple of days. And it's a great
time of year, really is. And you're starting to get some,
like I said, the change of the weather, and you're
getting closer and closer to the anticipation of March and
March madness and and all the things. And uh, I

(02:02):
think the other thing that makes it special for me
is just the group that we have and you've you've
been fortunate to be around us in some tight circles
and in some tight spaces where this is just a
really incredible group to be around. And I thought today
for me, magnified that a little bit from a standpoint
of the there was a somberness, you know that that
there's still hurt a little bit. But I kind of
said it in a little bit sarcastic, but not literally

(02:25):
and figuratively. I put on it like we've got to
rebound better, and we gotta we got to rebound the
basketball better. But we've got to rebound quickly from that
from that difficult loss at North Dakota on Saturday, and
and prepare and and and send a group of seniors
out the right way on Wednesday night, but even more so,
prepare for you know, what's looking like a Friday night game,

(02:46):
turn around to play USD again, is what that we're
all assuming and down in Sioux Falls and get to
some of the league things started.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I cannot wait, Coach, It's gonna be awesome. It's certainly
going to be an emotional night with any senior night.
Once we get to Wednesday. We have five Bison who
are going to be playing in their final home game
inside the Shack, Mason Miller, Jakari White, Luke Kasuk, Jeremiah Burke,
Jackson Money. We'll go through all of those young men
here tonight. We also have a senior manager in Dylan

(03:12):
Zender who's been a wonderful part of the program as well.
So we'll go through all of them as we go
throughout the program, and we'll have JB with us here tonight.
It's gonna be his second time on the show. We
had them on last year, which was awesome. Can't wait
to talk with JB.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
JB's great too, and it's one of the goods and
bads of coaching, right. The tough part is is, you know,
you can't play everybody as much as you wish, and
JB is a very talented young man on the basketball court,
and in just the way that things have played out
and with his injury early, we caught a little bit
of steam. It's just been a difficult situation like that.
But you know what I get to see, thankfully, is

(03:49):
the relationship piece of JB and I being able to
grow sebatily and for him to continue to mature, you know,
behind the scenes as a student and as a young man,
and I do like it. You know, this will be
Jab's last you know goal around as a Bison, but
you know, with some of these new rules, they'll have
an extra year to play if he chooses to do
those things. And and you know, for me again selfishly,

(04:10):
I look forward to being a part of JB's journey,
you know, for the rest of his basketball career and
beyond as he becomes a husband and father and employee
and player.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Been pretty cool to watch him grow here over these
last two years, as it has with everybody in the
senior class. So we'll get Jeremiah on about six thirty
or so. We'll have him out here and be fun
and get a little bit of a get to know
you time with JB. If you've got some questions for
coach or for Jeremiah Burke, you can drop them on
our Facebook stream. We're streaming live right now on the

(04:41):
NDSU Athletics Facebook page. You can also call or Texas
seven zor A one four, seven six, sixteen sixty if
you want to have a chance to win tickets, you
know the drill, come on up and put your contact
info in the prize box and we'll draw for him
here at the end of the show, Coach Richmond with
us all the way to well seven seven o'clock is
when Jory Collins will join us Andy Rickoff as well,

(05:04):
and we'll have a little talk about Bison women's basketball
as we come down to stretch. There so lots of
ways to get involved. And last housekeeping guide and we
have our Coaches show special. Still it's the eight dollars burger,
beer and fries. You cannot beat it. It's still here.
We introduced it in the fall when we were doing football.
It stayed here through basketball, and it's the best deal

(05:25):
in town here for Monday night. So if you're in here,
make sure you take advantage. If not, maybe you're driving
around looking to come back home, maybe you don't have
dinner waiting at home. This might be the place to
be for you here tonight. And you can win some
tickets to get in the shack.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
And my wife's back in town now so I can eat.
You know. Usually the kids don't mind it once in
a while when mom's gone, because then we're eating out
and we don't have to and do all the things.
You know, So no great really again, like this has
been a great transition, you know, the studio that the
Bison sixteen sixty in Radio FM media. You guys have
over there is terrific. Put to just being more inclusive

(05:59):
and bring our fans close and to see this crowd
grow every time, and you're very appreciative of this opportunity
and the holiday in and the specials and to have
g with us go over there. She does a great
job and so it's a it's an awesome deal.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah, shout out to Glitdis. Glitnis has been the best
all year long for all of our holiday and shows.
So why don't we give her a round of applause.
We're not quite done yet, but around of applause for Glitdis.
She's been here since the fall, every single Monday and
Thursday night, so we appreciate you does a great job.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Yeah, it's always a friendly face to walk into in
the morning too.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Indeed, indeed, the DSU Athletics complex up at the shack,
so you can't beat it. Well, coach, we're all settled in.

beautiful day here at Fargo. Been joking around, Coach, it
feels like spring break out here. Fifty degrees. You cannot
beat it, I know, I.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
Just I feel like I've been giving Luke Stragie crap too.
He walked in. Now. We have had a couple of
brutal days this winter. I will say that from a
temperature standpoint, but to get this kind of weather and
this kind of melt, and you know, I'm sure I
don't I'm not going to talk too loud because you know,
Mother nature's listening, and I'm sure he's still got she's
still got something upper sleeve for us, and you know,

(09:48):
all part of the joys of the Upper Midwest. But
we'll take today, that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Yeah, you gotta just stay the course and hopefully we'll
be ready to go once we flip the calendar over
to March. But it is that time of year. We've
been saying it now the last couple of weeks, coach,
or fifteen games down, one to go in Summing League
regular season, and then it'll be time for Sue Falls
starting probably next Friday. After that, once we get down

(10:14):
there for the conference tournament. Go back to last week,
two rivalry road games. Knew there were going to be
two great opportunities, two big tests and challenges. What did
you take away after getting to split?

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Yeah, I just think it sums of our profession up
a little bit, and some's college basketball, and you know,
it's all the things where just the highs and highs
and lows. Wednesday probably as complete a game as we've
played all season. You know, we needed every bit of it,
you know, on the road and a great environment against
a very good basketball team, and our guys were just

(10:45):
terrific locked in. Again, I've said it on a myriad
of different platforms from a standpoint up, just to not
let them go on a run a bigger than five
zero in that environment, to keep the crowd out of it,
to keep our guys locked in like that, you know,
was really terrific. And we had a bunch of players
stepped up. Obviously, Jacksonmoni was was terrific, to Javis Miller
was really good, Fetti down the stretch was was was

(11:09):
was a dominant force like we need him to be.
From a you know, defend and rebound standpoint. I thought
Andy Stefanowitz is a guy that just you know, throwing
in or to or his first summer league starred in
that environment, you know, handled himself great, you know, led
us to no turnovers in the first half and only
four total in the game. And again, like I think
people are starting to realize too, But like I just

(11:31):
can't cannot say enough about Mason Miller either. You know,
one of our seniors, and you know, you and I
talked about him a little bit, and I know there's
gonna be a special coming out on our show. But
he is an elite shooter. But but that's only half
of what you see. Just the pace that he plays
with offensively and how that opens things up for others.
You know, we asked him a lot of times to
defend the other the opponent's best perimeter player. That that

(11:55):
young man has just been, you know, just been an
absolute joy to coach and to be around and learn from.
And the maturity, the poise, the intellectual iq to do
what he's doing on and off the court. You know,
Mason Miller is what's right about college basketball.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Only regret is you didn't get the whole four years
with them, right.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
I hate regrets, but I go back to three years
ago and we try to get him out of Truman
the first time he went in, he decided to go
to Indiana State. But hey, we'll take what we can take.
And I think there is been I hope there's some
guys like an Eli Bradley or a Carson Smith and
some of those guys like you talk about a legacy
piece that you know, even though Mace is going to

(12:32):
only be here for about nine months or whatever, that
they learned a thing or two and taking some things
for the way Mason handles his business.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
I wanted to ask you about his defensive side of
the game. We talk all day about the three pointers,
and rightfully so. Obviously he's shooting over fifty percent from
beyond the arc in league. But defensively, I'm watching up
close next to the bench at SDSU. He is right there,
step for step, as locked in as can be at

(12:59):
that end.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Yeah, there's just there's an like, Mace is a good athlete,
but he's not any lead athlete. But there's an intensity
to it, there's an understanding to it, there's a physicality
to it. All the all the things that maybe don't
take the talent that you necessarily think that that parlays
into what a Division one athlete, you know, might seem
to look like. And but Mace makes up for it.

(13:20):
I think the other big piece too, is just his
his basketball IQ is acuum to to execute a scout
and report and to do those things consistently over and over.
He's handled other different types of guys too, and I
thought that was a big key to our Our South
Dakota State went on Wednesday night as well. As you know,
we guarded Oscar Cloff, a very big, talented young man
in a lot of different ways, and sometimes six eleven

(13:42):
Oscar Cloff against you know, maybe six four to Javis
Miller and some of those things, and our guys never
back down. And that was really terrific to see.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
When you guys were up against Cluff. Obviously, it was
a different look compared to the first time around. What
went into that process Oscar?

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Yeah, you know, I just and I was listening back
and I heard their radio guy talk about it. You know,
Dave Richmond's not a guy to double and I just
really don't like to do those things. I want to
you know, want to we want to fight to one
on one a little bit and not create those extra
opportunities to play, you know, to maybe play four on
three on the back side of those passes out. But
you know, just that first go around of really truly
seeing Oscar and just how big, how dominant his hands,

(14:22):
his feed, his skill level, and just also knowing then
too it's not just Oscar scoring, it's just the way
that they had played through him to ignite their offense
a little bit. And we felt like we had to
have a few wrinkles in our in our back pocket,
and our guys.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Were able to do those things, no doubt about it.
You talk about the defense two coach holding them to
no more than five in a row before stopping the run.
Just there are other pieces on that team outside of him,
and that was kind of the theme from the first meeting.
So how effective did you think the team defense wasn't
taking away their other guys.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
I really thought the big key was our team offense,
you know, helping our team defense. They really did, and
and and Kluff was very good against us at our place.
But I also think the other thing that got away
from us is we didn't we didn't take great shots,
we didn't pass and catch very well. We let them
out on the open floor. And you take you know
Owen Larson and Piler and the way Jayden Jackson's playing,

(15:17):
and you know all those guys, you know, kayl and
Gary didn't play against us this time, but like those
are those are very very good players, especially in space
where they can catch it at a high level and
they play really loose and really free in those first
you know, eight to twelve seconds of that shot block.
And so I think, you know, just us being able
to take care of the basketball and execute offensively was
a big part in you know, holding them below forty

(15:39):
percent from the field at their place.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Mm hm. Andy's the final, which you mentioned too, got
the start and I don't think you would have known
it was just his first ever summit started second.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Overall, Yeah, you just continue to be really impressed by
by Andy. And and you know he got in some
foul trouble against North Dakota on Saturday, and you know,
hindsight's twenty. It always is right. Maybe the he you know,
could have gone back in there for some and those
are things that I'm still learning with the freshman. But
you just young Man's got a lot of moxie. He's
got a lot of guts. And the other big thing is,

(16:11):
you know, the third of our core values is endurance.
And you know, Andy just plays basketball. He's not really
affected by me or the environment, or the opponent or
the officiating. He just moves on to what's next. And
I cannot tell you this day and age, what a
what a big quality that is to be able to endure,
to be able to quickly play offense and transition to defense,

(16:31):
to quickly play defense and then transition to offense, whether
whether it ended up good or bad. And he's just
gonna come right back at you. And you know he
had a big three. He made two big free throws
in a big moment. The other thing Andy does too
is he rebounds pretty bad pretty well. And that's something
that we got to take a look at as we move.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
Forward, no doubt about it. We're talking with Coach Richmond
here at the holiday and in Fargo. Appreciate all of
our buis and friends and family coming on out to
support here tonight. We're gonna keep the conversation Rowan. We'll
take it out of a break when we come back
Bar with coach. This is the Bison Sports Network from
their field.

Welcome back on into the holiday and here in Fargo.
It is the Bison Basketball Coaches Show Monday night. Glad
to be with you, Sam Meederman, coach, Dave Richmond. We'll
get Jeremiah Burk in here in just a moment. If
you have a question for coach or for JB, you
can drop it on our Facebook live stream on the
NDSU Athletics page, or you can call her Texas seven

(20:37):
zero one four seven six sixteen sixty. We've got a
question in from our friend Ron coach. He says, what
might be the most challenging and the most rewarding aspects
of this conference season as it's been winding down for
the men's basketball program.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
I think the challenge is is, you know, we've we've
showed moments of brilliance and there's just been a few incomessistancies.
And I think that's encouraging, if right, that's encouraging down
the stretch that we can compete with anybody anywhere. We've
shown that, we've proven that if we're able to, you know,
be consistent in our execution, in our expectations, in our
standards for forty minutes. The other piece, you know, again

(21:18):
is the culture piece in Dave Richmond is just the
young man. I mean, this is just an absolutely terrific
this is good stuff.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
This is Jakari's dad right here, just all right, yeah goodness.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
So yeah, just really really good young men to be
around and just fun, fun people you know that get it,
you know that that want to be successful, that like
each other. And I can't tell you know what that's like,
just really really cool deal.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
That's one of the key ingredients, coach. Right, you could
have all the talent in the world, but if they're
not linking together, if on the court chemistry but also
off the court chemistry and playing for each other, then
that might all be a moot point.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
Yeah, I think I think you see in that too,
where you know, collectives and Nil has been a big
part of it, and rightfully so. And and you know,
we're going to continue to work to increase our our
value from that standpoint too. But I refuse, there's so
many sacrifices that US coaches make to to be away
from our own families, right, and I refuse to travel

(22:20):
around the country and sometimes the world it feels like,
you know, with a bunch of idiots, and and and
I don't say I say that, maybe you know, not
politically correct, but unfortunately for me, the stories are endless,
from the bus drivers to the hotel people of coach
just the quality of young men that you got right,
and those are cool And it's really cool too that

(22:40):
you know, we're doing these things with a high level
of character and integrity. And this is a group that's
already won twenty games with you know, on the verge
or on their fingertips of accomplishing even something more too.
So again, I just cannot speak to speak enough about
the young men. And sometimes I'm guilty, right, I'm guilty
of because I'm so cultured, because I'm so people based. Like,

(23:03):
let's not forget about the talent that's in the room.
I mean, there are some very very good basketball players.
Now there's some basketball players that are going to have
some bright futures as they move forward. But just again,
just an absolute player, Like, we're all tired, we're all
exhausted right now, physically, mentally, emotionally, but it makes it
easier and easier to do these things because of the

(23:23):
people that were around every day.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
Well, you talk about talent, this is fitting since Jakari's
dad just walked in. It's great to see you guys
back there. We were doing a TV spot earlier this
morning and we were watching back the SGSU highlights and
I think both of us couldn't help but smirk on
that step back three that he get late. I mean,
what goes through your head when you see him shaking

(23:46):
bake like that and just knock it down like his
eyes are closed.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
Here's full transparency. No no, no, no, yes, yes, one
of those. Right. And you know we talk about in
our breaking down our offense into three parts. You got
the first eight to twelve seconds where there's some open
space opportunities. There's a middle area where you're just haunting,
searching for great and really that last eight seconds has
zero to do with coaching, right, It's it's about the

(24:10):
jimmies and Joe's going out there and making a play.
And you know Jacari's got that ability to create just
enough space, but then to have the strength and athleticism
to get that off. I mean, that's a big time
shot that you know that only. I mean, that's a
special talent that can pull that off.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
Yeah, we we have the front row seat for it
as well.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
Right. It reminds me of a young Sam Niederman back
in the day.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
I'm a little more back to the basket, but I appreciate.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
You'll let me guess left shoulder jump hop too.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
Yeah, that was it. Don't let me get to that
left shoulder. Yeah, that'll do it. That was pretty awesome
to see Doubted Brookings as well. Well, why don't we
take another time out here, coach, we can come back
walk through the seniors as we get ready for Senior Day.
It is the Bison Basketball Coaches Show here at the

come on out to join us. Coach Richmond is here
with us. Got Jeremiah Burke here in the house as well.
Good to see you JB. Thanks for coming. Man. We'll

(27:36):
get JB in here in a moment. Gonna be fun
to talk some seniors. Gonna be fun to celebrate all
of these seniors coming up on Senior Day here. Coach,
it's a T minus forty eight hours. We got one
of them here in the house.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
It's crazy, right, and you know the just me being
the hardline whatever I can say on air that I am.
I told you guys, I'm not gonna deal with any
emotion on Wednesday night. But at the same sense, like
it's impossible too as this one sits down to me,
next to me and you see Jakari's dad over here,
not to just reflect on a whole bunch of time,

(28:10):
you know, over the last couple of years or three years,
and again just really just a privilege has been blessed
to be around some wonderful young man.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Can't wait. It'll be Wednesday
night inside the shacks. Won encourage everybody come on out,
cheer the guys on, supporting the seniors and the whole
team as we get ready for what's gonna be a
great night Buyson against USD. We'll get into a little
bit of the matchup as well. It will be the
last one of the regular season. But Coach want to

(28:38):
walk through the senior class. It's a mix of guys
who have come in here maybe just for this year,
and some familiar faces that we've seen here in Fargo
for a little bit. We were talking about Mason Miller
a little bit earlier. What more can you add on
Mason what he's brought to the table.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
Again, I just since you know, I just kind of
stated at all when it goes back to it like
just the impact, and I think so many people see
the elite shooter and that's just really a microcosm of
what Mason's about. You know, I was talking to Mason.
It's been a long time since I've played somebody forty minutes,
and he played forty minutes, you know, Saturday afternoon against
North Dakota, and he just impacts the game in a

(29:17):
lot of ways. And the thing that's been really healthy
for me is we've had some big, big boy conversations,
you know, over the phone on you know, on Saturdays
and Sundays too, about you know, the state of the
union within buys and basketball and just he's really been
great to challenge me and some things and as I
bring some questions to him. And the other thing that's

(29:37):
been really unique is him and Coach Dragi have a
great relationship, and our offense is has been been a
blend of what they did at Indiana State and how
that fits our personnel and all those things. And so again,
his impact, albeit short, and you know, nine ten months
cannot be cannot be overstated. Just a tremendous young man

(29:58):
for him to be engaged, you know, have that next
chapter of his life. You know, that's a lucky young
lady right there. Uh, to have Mason Miller as her husband.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
No doubt getting his NBA as well, if I'm not
mistaken here too.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
And he might be. I mean, his intelligence level is
just I say this because JB and I probably combined
don't quite you know, get on Mason's level. But he
might be working for NASA someday. You know, iimy is
very intelligent. But it's also he works really hard at
it too. And you know, it's a it's a combination
of a sum of all those parts.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
For Mace, it's good news for NASA or whatever organization. Uh,
Mason ends up being a part of here the next chapter,
let's talk a little bit about Jacari. What a wonderful
young man who's made Fargo at NDSU is home here.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
Yeah, and I think that's the biggest thing. Jakary and
I have had some pretty pretty interesting and in a
lot of ways pretty heated conversations in the last two
springs about just different things and you know, the thing
that I'm most proud of Jakari is, and I've used
this term a lot with him, was He's taking some roots.
He's taking some seeds and just planted them really lightly

(31:04):
in the surface at Indsu And every year he's let
those you know, those seeds get watered and grow deeper
and deeper. And as each one of those roots has
gone deeper into the ground, he started to blossom more
and more above the surface. And again just you know,
a thousand points scorer, and like you mentioned, he's he's
second in season attempts or season makes from three in

(31:26):
a super super talented young man that's kind of bright
future ahead of him, you know, probably with another year
of college basketball somewhere else where. I'm going to be
so excited to watch him and support him and do
those things. But but again, I can't tell you like
the moment that that him and Josh Jones and I
had when we found out his GPA, this this, you know,
it's it's all those things that go into him just

(31:48):
really trusting, you know, and and and the recruiting process
was so unique, him and Tim Zikari and Tim were
here like on a Thursday, you know, went home on
a Saturday and turned around like on a Monday, and
he's back. I mean, it is so fast, and you're
I'm trying to figure out what what what we got?
I can only imagine what's going through car He's head
at the time. But but it's really been just an
absolute blessing to see that young man mature off the

(32:12):
court into the person and the student he is and
obviously just a tremendous, tremendu basketball talent.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
All the way from Orlando to Fargoutural.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
It's a natural thing. Isn't this the same kind of weather,
tim that you guys got Inland right now? It's hot here.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
It's hot, fifty degrees. Love it. We love it here
in February not too shabby. We've also got lu Kasuke,
the man that that we like to call pops. Uh
he and he's gonna be celebrated ones.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
The best again. I I think I'm gonna talk selfishly
because I needed a guy like lu Kasuk. Luke lu
Kasuk is a guy that keeps it real.

Speaker 5 (32:48):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
He's been there and he's done it. He he He's
really endeared himself to his teammates really quickly. And you
saw that to be named captain like that, I think,
what what what Luke's got the ability to do is
trans laate a message. Okay, so coach will get on you,
Coach will get on you in a in a tone
or a different way, and then Luke will go in
there and and not not waiver from the message, but

(33:11):
maybe digest the message just a little bit deeper. He's
just really versed. He's really witty and like his I
think that, like somebody once told me, common sense isn't
so common anymore. Well, Luca Soup's got a lot of
common sense. And you can tell Luke's body and some
of those things. It's it's his fifth sixth year of
college basketball and in all those things. But he's out

(33:33):
there giving max effort all the time. And again, the
biggest compliment that I can give him, and JB can
probably attest to this more, is like just the the
teammate that Luke is, The spirit, the pulse, the energy
that that he brings to this group is terrific.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
No doubt about it. And then we'll obviously have JB
on here at a second, Jackson money as well, who's
gonna be honored on one?

Speaker 4 (33:55):
Yeah, I mean, I just really credit Jackson. I mean,
he's he's obviously a very very talented young man, and
I think we're still only scratching the surface the amount
of agent attention and professional scout attention that we're getting
with Jackson. It's it's legit stuff. You know, he's got
a chance to do some some really cool, wonderful, beneficial things,

(34:15):
you know, at the professional level. But the humility and
hunger that Jackson came in with. Here is somebody that
was a very touted portal prospect. Here is somebody that
you know, had a ton of points coming in and
had a bunch of success in Northern State and and
doing all these things, and and it come you know,
even even the fact that he comes to North Dakota
State of school that didn't recruit him out of high school.

(34:37):
I mean, he could have egotistically, he could have said,
no way, you guys didn't do that things. But for
him to embrace and you know, you can go back.
I think JB was there at his workout. You know,
I was Dave Richmond. I was very transparent, you know,
I hold the guys accountable, make him finish through the lines.
And that's what Jackson wanted, you know, and and he
he had at times, well he'll give you a little

(34:57):
like you know, but but he knows right he wants
that transparency and good players, good people want truth. Whether
they like what they're hearing or not, they want the truth.
And that provides direction. And Jackson's changed around his body.
You know, he's attacked this, He's embraced you know, a
coach that's been on his butt about playing both ends
of the floor, you know, doing those things. And you know,

(35:20):
again like he's all the things as a basketball player.
He really is. You know, he might not be, you know,
the athlete like Jeremiah Burke is, but the skill, the size,
the feel, the IQ, the competitiveness, the big plays that
he's made in big moments too. One of the agents
asked me one time, can you challenge can you challenge Jackson?

(35:40):
And I hesitated for a second. I wasn't sure I
was able to call him back and say absolutely. You
think at the end of the Butler game, the end
of this, the Santa Clara game, you know, the game
Wednesday night. You know, he just delivers on both ends
of the floor in big moments and a very special
young man you know, a great father. He's so invested
in his time with Sky and it's just is a

(36:01):
big part of every one of his conversations. Again, like
I told these guys, I was through. I was afforded
by two hundred win. The one thing I was sweart
enough to do was surround myself with tremendous people. And
this group really reflects that.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
No doubt. It's been a special season for Jackson and
had great to have him and his family here in
Fargo for it as well. Last certainly not least, we've
got him right here. Yeah, and we're gonna have you
on here, JB at just a moment, but Jeremiah Burke
two years as a Bison, and we're all gonna be
able to honor JB here tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (36:31):
Yeah, and again I said it. JB has been a big,
big part on the court in some big moments. I
go back to the Western Michigan game last year and
you know, the the game tying and then force an
overtime and a very talented young man that I, like
I said before, I'm gonna be so excited to you know,
to watch as you know, we've been afforded this next
opportunity for him and some college basketball things. But you know,

(36:51):
I just I don't want to go too far into detail,
but I got a really special call from from JB
the other day and it was just really heartfelt, and
I'm sure it meant something to Jeremiah. And I've told
him in front of the group, who meant way more
to me that a guy that's not playing as much
as he would want to, a guy that I'm not
playing as much as I would like to, but you're
just forcing the tough decisions as a head coach that's

(37:13):
still at the end of the day that he recognizes
I'm a human. I know that he's a human, and
Jeremiah's made some terrific strides. He's done some great things
in the classroom. I firmly believe Jeremiah Burke is a
better human being better basketball player you know today and
has a better perspective on what it takes to be
successful in life on the court and all those things

(37:35):
today and being with us for you know, a little
over a year and a half, and I'm so excited
to watch this young man continue to grow.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
Well. We can't wait to have him on here.

Speaker 4 (37:42):
In the broadcast, you notice I'm not gonna look at
him because I'm gonna kill a mess.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
Yeah, we're gonna have to get through it. Here he's
next to the twenty minutes or so. Jeremiah Burke here
with us on the Bizer Basketball Coaches Show. He'll join
us in a moment. We'll take another time out. Be
back with JB after this. Just to biden. Sports Network

How are you, my friend?

Speaker 24 (41:47):
I'm good.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
Are you doing fantastic? Man, doing fantastic?

Speaker 4 (41:51):
That one?

Speaker 3 (41:52):
Uh, I'm guessing that's the best duck you've had in
your career. Where does that one stack up for you?

Speaker 24 (41:57):
It definitely felt the bits for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (42:02):
That was against Jamestown on opening night. Yeah, Yeah, goodness, gracious,
do you ever a.

Speaker 4 (42:08):
Very bounty young man? Yes, reminds me of a young
Dave Richmond back in the day. That was my game.

Speaker 3 (42:13):
Hanging on the rim that'll do it or not that'll
do it for sure. Do you ever like uh, guys ever,
do like like dunk contests with each other the in
the downtime when when you're just able to kind of
relax a little bit and have some fun.

Speaker 24 (42:28):
Yeah, we do sometimes, but I mean we kind of
know how that goes well. Some of them have some
nice ones though, you know, they.

Speaker 4 (42:37):
Just trying to catch up, not quite to your level,
I imagine.

Speaker 24 (42:40):
Yeah, I wasn't gonna say it, but.

Speaker 3 (42:42):
Yeah, humble, we we love it. Man. Jeremiah Burke, you're
with us. We appreciated JB. Thanks for coming on out
senior day here for you and four fellow seniors as
we just walked through with coach on Wednesday night against USD.
Just how does it feel that year two as a
Bison is is kind of coming to a finish here.

Speaker 24 (43:05):
It's honestly hard to explain. It's like it's a real
in a way, because it feels like I just walked
into junior college as a freshman, let alone, you know,
transferring here two years ago. Just time flew by. I mean,
I'm grateful for everything. You know, He's been a great
experience getting to compete at this level and meet the

(43:26):
people that I've met. You know, the relationships I feel
like will last far beyond here and far beyond any
like basketball as far as that goes. So I'm grateful
for that. And it's crazy that I'm a senior. It's
weird saying.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
Yeah, no doubt, coach, it's been pretty awesome to have
JB here the last two seasons.

Speaker 4 (43:47):
It's been incredible, it really is. And there's there's some
tremendous memories on the court, and I'm just reflecting too.
I remember when he committed, you know, we were downtown,
and just the relationship that he has with his mother.
You know, he wanted to do that over FaceTime. I
remember some stories here. You know, this year, JB got
a dog, Jock, and when we made our trip to mine,

(44:08):
not our girls house, you know, they took care of
Jock and and some of those things, and so you know,
it just again it's just I sometimes have been accused
and I'm guilty of I don't talk enough about the
talented young men these guys are. They're very, very good
basketball players. But I'm not gonna I'm unapologetic when that
comes to it because that's just really just a minuscule

(44:30):
time that I get to spend with these guys and
the person you know that the JB is, and he
was a wonderful person, and his mother did a tremendous
job of bringing him up the right way. But then
now just to continue to see him grow. And I
think the other thing that's been really cool to see
and witnesses Jeremiah has become way more comfortable in his
own skin, and he's just very very convicted and secure

(44:52):
now and who he is as a person. And and
again to be able to shoot the ball and jump high,
those are great skills, but to know to believe in
yourself the way he does now, and and and and
to see that growth, those skills are going to take
JB and all of our guys a lot longer in life.

Speaker 3 (45:08):
That's what it's all about, for sure, JB. I gotta
ask you about Jock. I I didn't know about this. Yuh,
what kind of dog are we talking?

Speaker 24 (45:16):
Golden doodle?

Speaker 3 (45:17):
Oh? Nice?

Speaker 24 (45:18):
Huge?

Speaker 3 (45:19):
Nice? Yeah, that's perfect. How old al he's pushing a
year in April, so young pup. Then it's crazy, he's
growing fast, He's crazy. So it's glad to deal with,
but it's fun.

Speaker 4 (45:32):
And again and again I go back to it. I
think it speaks to you know, when we had when
we had Jock at our house for that night and
then the majority of that next day. It's it's a
good dog. And I don't I know that might not
seem like much or sound like much, but like Jock
didn't just become a good dog like you're you learn
to be a good dog and behave the way he
did and stay close to you know, the owners and

(45:53):
things like that. And then that's, uh, that's the credit
to JB because I don't know if if if Carey
and Javis, you know, if they're doing any service that dog.

Speaker 24 (46:00):
Yeah, I got them, I got them right.

Speaker 3 (46:04):
I love it. I love it. Well. I'm gonna have
to uh see a picture here at some point when
we get to our next break. We're gonna take one
real quick right now to stay on track. We'll have
some more fun. Jeremiah Burke here with us at the
holiday in for the Boys and Basketball Coaches Show. We're
back in a moment. This is the Bison Sports Network

we're gonna have some fun here before we take our
last time out. We've learned about Jack. Who's your dog?

(52:44):
Absolutely wonderful. By the way, you guys are gonna have
to see some pictures by the time that we're done,
just one year old. Give me a little bit about
the bond that you created with your fellow teammates here
over the last two years. Jacari and Javis are your roommates.
That's quite the band. Quite the duo right there, and
you three. I'm sure I've had a lot of fun memories.

(53:04):
So what's it been like getting to know your fellow
teammates and the brotherhood that is Buys basketball personally?

Speaker 24 (53:11):
I feel like the most simple way to put it is,
I don't even really consider them as teammates, Like they're
my brothers, They're my family. Whether they're here or not.
Past teammates, you know, I still keep in touch with them,
We have a relationships. So it just goes like way
beyond basketball, honestly, And I've learned that coming here because
I haven't really had that in the past, you know,

(53:32):
juco it's like a doggy dog world, so everybody's focused
on their self. So it's been nice to have a
family outside of family.

Speaker 3 (53:40):
So that's gonna be awesome to hear, Coach.

Speaker 4 (53:42):
I can't tell you what that feels like to hear
those things. And I've got to cut a couple of texts,
you know, about just some other people that have been
around our program, and then to hear that specifically from
one of our family members, I think we're doing something right, right.
I mean, certainly, at the very end of the day,
SAMUS is a business and we need to win some
games and graduate some young men do all those things.
But I never wanted to feel like that. Yeah, and

(54:03):
I wanted to feel like a family because you know,
love and family are success and and you know, you
translate that family and love and love and family onto
the court, that's how you win. Twenty games and have
a bunch of really cool opportunities right in front of us.

Speaker 3 (54:17):
Still all right, we talked about your dunk a little
bit earlier. JB. This has been the question for everybody.
It's an exit survey for every senior and maybe there's
no more to come obviously for our group as a whole.
But your favorite play of your career as a Bison.

Speaker 24 (54:33):
M that's a great question. I would say the put
back at Western.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
There you go, that was the best. Yeah.

Speaker 24 (54:40):
It was more of a team play in a way.

Speaker 3 (54:43):
It wasn't a way, but you were on the spot,
my man.

Speaker 4 (54:45):
Yeah, I don't know. You started from about half court
and that was a pretty individual Uh, but you're right.
I mean I love how you give credit to to
everybody else.

Speaker 3 (54:54):
Yeah, that was the first ever game as an ideas
you buys it quite the wind overtime at West Biskit. Well,
we're going to take one last timeout that we'll come
back wrappings of a JB and Coach Tritchmand appreciate everybody

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
