well. Mayor told my youngest son'sgot eacovered. Mister executive director, It's
all good, all right, awesome, that is so true to say that,
that is so true. But heis resting, and I don't know
what it says about our community whenone of your mayor's accountability partners is seventeen
(01:07):

finish it up just today and completetennis for twenty to twenty three. All
right, We're talking with Alvin Briggs, executive director of the Alabama High School
Athletic Association, to see we've hade sports championship already accomplished. We're in
(01:52):
the middle of gosh, in thenext four weeks, you got just about
every spring sport right next four weeks. You know, this weekend we have
a sectional track that's uh, everybody'sgetting ready for that starts today and now
state track next week. When inthe middle of U area tournament for for
baseball. We're having uh tournament startingfor soccer. Uh. Then we'll have
(02:16):
area tournament for some softball will startuh uh this weekend and going to next
week and and then we'll get readyto start a high sexual tournament for golf.
I mean you write everything's winding down, it's baseball. The last avenue
they stall the softball. We endup in the last week. Softball has
(02:38):
the has the privilege of the endingall championships on the twentieth Saturday in the
twentieth if all holds out, andthat will be the last championship day.
Right next week, you gotta returnto mobile for track, right coach,
Yes, we returned back down togo shorts for a state track for a
(02:59):
boy from seven and eight one eightthree eight, but held up in Coleman
at Colman High School. Man,I hope you've got a hybrid car gets
can you imagine if you if youneed, we know a guy up here.
We got one of you. Getyou covered out and he'll take care
(03:20):
of it. Also, Also, they're they're spread out pretty good, aren't
they all over the state of Alabama? Yeah. Also, uh, you
know when we've been softball. Thatbeing four different sites gush shows Montgomery,
Abberville and Flawrence would be our regionof sites for for our softball. Uh
(03:42):
that are gone for about five daysbefore they before they commodate the championship in
Oxford. So uh it's uh it'sgonna be a nice little uh mileedge collective
over the next four weeks for forall our staff. And this will be
this that geld trip for baseball inOxford, right, Elvin, Yes,
(04:03):
second trip and for baseball and Oxford, and the third trip for softball in
there you go found the home AlvinBriggs with us Alabama High School Athletic Association's
executive director. It is sixty fivedegrees and it's thirty seven minutes after the
hour. All right, Alvin.A few weeks ago you had a Central
Border Control Spring meeting. Um,there was some I guess some new by
(04:28):
laws passed. I think if youwant to kind of go over the high
spots, and I think we gotour officials a pay raise. Right.
Well, you know the big thingwe went in got got our officials,
all of them in every sport Ukvadahad the Officials committee look at it and
got them, got them raised andborn league to that sport, which was
(04:48):
a great accomplishment. And I appreciateKen Washington and h the Officials Committee,
whch had to represent from every sporton that committee and uh did that due
diligence and looked at all the rages. I mean, what what the officials
were getting paid across the nation anduh we uh we're at the time of
(05:13):
the list in our section and uhwhat we call the South Beach Sex and
uh uh so it's uh, it'sreal good for officials good about it.
Uh they feel good about it,and I appreciate them, and they'll due
diligence and the Central Board of Controlfor asking mister Washington Kennon to get after
that. And they did a greatjob. The absolutely did a great job.
(05:38):
Good deal is that because everything theykind of it was, it was
handled wrong. I'm gonna say thatfrom their end. But I'm glad the
association. I'm glad the Association camethrough Alvin and looked at it what you're
already in the process of doing.I do believe, right, Yeah,
you know we look at it,you know, every every several years,
and and you know it's it's justthe process we went up to do who
(06:00):
we have to do diligence, makesure that that our schools can afford what
they're doing. You know, that'sthe thing. You know, it's got
to be affordable before our scoops.I mean, if it's not affordable before
our schools, I mean, youknow, it's uh that that's the main
course of what we're doing and whywe do. We're doing acro our schools
so young people baby get out thereparticipate. At the end of the day,
(06:20):
So, um, we got itall done. We we we got
it all taken care of. Here. I can see everybody's Google or yard.
Uh, We're gonna continue to getout there to advocate for our young
people there you go. No doubtabout that. A lot has changed in
the last few years. Uh.They ever evolving in HSA, keeps up
(06:41):
with it. I think you've donea good job with that, Alvin,
There's no doubt about it. Butyou know, we try to, you
know, stay at the forefront ofwhat the nation was happening in the nation
was going across our section, whatour Navy and the States are doing.
We have a great hication across thenation and the afle thing bubblish God,
(07:03):
Dan Washburn and Steve Sava reach fromthe foundation, they said, with UH
with athletics and in the nation andfor causing state Alabama. You know,
so uh, you know, wejust you know, we're gonna hope we
keep keep that train on the track, calling their footsteps there you go.
Alvin Briggs, executive directorly Alabam HighSchool Athletic Association with US forty minutes past
(07:27):
the hour, de Mark, JeffJeff Mars and Chris Wood and the Orthopeter
Clinics UH Studio. Alba's down inMobile at the Tennis Championships. He'll be
moving all over the state as weprogress. In your opinion right now,
Coach Briggs, the state of theHSA where we are today, Oh,
we're great. I mean we gohigh school athletics is hadn't been you know,
(07:50):
anywhere but going onwkward U since thepandemic. You know, we can
just think the fact that got youngpeople our community and these realize we need
to get out and be active andh we've had increased numbers. We're still
increasing and and and numbers of participationand um and that's what we want and
(08:11):
and and that's what we strive for. Uh. You talked about each sports.
Uh. Uh we call the SpringChampionships uh on Wenchday and uh it
was a great atmosphere and uh justhaving schools from from every point across the
state to meet in the each sportcomplex that at Birmingham, Uh, you
(08:35):
know, it's just awesome. Andthen you have colleges there that often there
offering scholarships telling those kids about theirprogram, that the tables. I mean,
you know what, what better, what better atmosphere? You have always
brag about the young man that wasBob Jones High School who got almost seven
hundred thousand dollars to go to OldMiss for each sports. You know,
(08:58):
you know you that's more than anyathletic scholarship that's out there. I mean,
I don't I don't even know ifif Stanford or any of every league
who gives that much money for forone for people's students come there and there's
there's their university. It's just justamazing. I had no idea. I
didn't even know that existed. Devin. Oh yeah, we we have the
(09:20):
Universe of North Autama, Foster uh, altbam A and m u A.
H Uh Huntington. Uh, thelist goes on of of our instates groups
that are beginning to offer uh theg sports. Uh so it's it's uh,
it's a it's an awesome outlet forthose students who who enjoy their sports
(09:43):
and what they're doing. And so, uh we're we're just appreciative that that
Joe stavoris that the fourth off startdis uh some six years ago and it's
been on the upswing. Actually sevenyears ago, it's been on an upswing.
So we're excited about Yeah, Iagree with that Coach Bridge. I
want to I just had someone ask, this is girls football a championship sport?
(10:07):
Is it? Girls flag? Footballis still a a a not a
nuns. It is not a sanctionchampions sanction the Uh you know, we
got one more year uh that we'redoing what we're doing now and and uh
we're hopefully hopeful that uh we andI know we have enough games to to
(10:31):
uh sanction. Uh but the twentyfour or twenty five, twenty five,
twenty six classification right now, itlooks like we maybe to have two different
classes and maybe three classes. Souh we're looking forward to and it's been
exciting. I mean the two localschools there and Old Blake and Auburn have
(10:54):
been uh just one of whom existuh uh members that you know alber wanted
last year and Auburn. Uh andyou know we're just just the gray At
and the Spirit Hill. It's sowe're excited about girls black football. Yeah.
I think as we've discussed off themark, I think it's going to
really take off. And I thoughtthat was the cric answered had to go
three. Uh. Is there anyother sports just coming up that maybe we
(11:18):
had? Uh? Is it lacrossecoaches that one of them that may become
well, uh, where we're at, we're lacrosse. Uh. We still
served by our school and the surveynumbers are uh not being were post there
yet. We still have some havesome club teams and with summer our schools,
but uh not enough due team.Uh come post is thanking lacrosse?
(11:41):
Okay? All right? Is thereany other sports album that I mentioned that
maybe? Yeah? Well, wewe have a a rising girls rassling.
Uh. This was the first yearthat we had a girls rassling only girls
the only tournament, uh, andall our girls participated in the girls format
(12:03):
and it went over just like wildfireand UH, and we're looking at maybe
that may becoming a sanctioned sport UHin an classification period as well. Still
away down to do resident see wherewe are with at, but that is
supposed to be in a sanctioned accordingto all right, Alban Briggs was speaking
of sanctioned sports, UH and sportswe start read UM classification after this fall,
(12:28):
right, yes, UH, thisfall is coming fall UH and July
the Board of UH search of boarderControls will give us direction to what would
do with our classification and how we'redoing with that that happened to be get
this fall for the twenty four twentyfive from about twenty six fool year never
(12:48):
stops, Coach Briggs, Uh,I think we got some Q and a's
Myers, coach. I don't knowif you're aware, but Lee County,
Alabama is home to thirty three hundredhotel rooms thirty three hundred do you know
that? So we are perfectly positionedto host the state bowling championships. We're
essentially located on a major interstate. My question is what would we have to
(13:11):
do here to relocate that to ourneighborhood. Well, the bowling facilities there
and Nomino Black Good need to contactus and and let us come over there
and see that. Thank you. We're actually looking for a state side as
you speaking. Now go ahead.Hey, I'm just hey, I'm just
(13:35):
how many lads y'all require? Howmany of you guys? Can I promise
you you don't have enough about That'swhat I'm concerned about. Now you know
him and he will try to becareful how you answer this question. No,
(13:56):
no, no, I mean becauseit's gonna be up to the bowl
prior because a lot of things werequire in our FPS, you know,
and what they're doing. My suggestionis that that you contact J. C.
Lawrence and he can give you particularson exactly what we can deal and
how we can deal with because wehave you know, male and female bowlding
(14:20):
and different flashes going on all thetime, so the format that vent what
we're doing. So uh, mysuggestion is contact JK. Lawren um because
you know, we would love tohave um as bennis lanes as we can.
I don't want to ever say thatwe have to have this many uh
to do it, because we've workedit out with small lanes, uh,
(14:43):
and we've worked it out with largerlanes like the larger lanes, uh and
being becoming date our biggest thing hasbeen able to comming date all the fans.
Got it? Okay? Well,as you're aware, you know,
we have had the privilege of hostingSuper seven for many years. So not
only do we have the hotels,we got the volunteers lined up, y'all
(15:05):
have not y'all have not hold Superseven. I don't believe that. So
you know, we are perfectly positionedto be able to do it. I
just think bringing another state championship opportunityto Lee County, that this this could
be the you know, other thanSuper seven, this could be our next
step toward athletic greatness here in LeeCounty. I'm right there with there you
(15:28):
go. And I think it waswithout a question when when pickleball becomes a
championship sport, you got to hostit at the sports place. Yeah,
we got that, get Yeah.So I told you, Alving, be
aware, Assassa and I will beout there giving radio commentary at the pickleballship.
I thought you didn't you give hima job the other day? Alvin,
didn't you give I'm not quite surethat job's a real job. So
(15:50):
he gave me one. He didYou did give him one though, right?
Yes, okay, I did it. I did a sign him a
job, thank you. So Itell y'all that happened. Sure if he
heard what you say, no heheard, it's silence. You're still there.
I know. I know he thinksI'm joking about No, he don't
be serious. And you gave himthe right number, didn't you? Because
(16:11):
as I hear that, you knowthe venues can change over time. I'm
just wondering what you would have todo to to garner a bid to host.
I can enlighten him about that,Alban Yeah, but I am seriously
if if that's something that you know, the bolting prior to that and here
you would like to pursue and youknow him, I would contact j J
(16:33):
Loss there you go charging following we'reactually looking at the venues. Uh.
He went and looked at a coupleof njies last week. So I mean
we haven't you know, be carefulwhat you wish for is all I'm gonna
say. I'm playing. I'm playing. I know you are. I know
I am. Would it would be, it would be and Alan knows it'd
(16:57):
be done. Right and we justright done. Road. Looks like we
got a good committee right here,Coach Briggs. So you know, hey,
I do know how people the communityof all being an open liking in
your community, they love to serveour student athletes, and I know it
would be done first class and bedone just there you go. I believe
(17:22):
that, we do believe that.Anything else, myers, you're good with
him, y'all good. I mean, you know you got your job to
quote the movie Dumb and Dumber. But man, you're telling me there's a
chance there's a chance he knows hemight slam that door. There you go,
Coach Briggs, Thank you so much, my man. I appreciate you.
Okay, hey, thank you forthe nice football that I got with
my name on it. That's verynice. Thank you. Well, since
(17:45):
we go, I don't know ifwe host you know y'all allows to come
over and play those football games.I thought i'd do something to keep to
try to get over there and playthat game. Well, it's a very
it's sitting right here in my office. I appreciate that. Well, I
appreciate you. Let me, uh, let me say it's one other things
and uh, I had to talkto or I didn't know Mary Andre's gonna
(18:11):
call me because I sent him someinformation on one of our classmates that passed
away yesterday. So I just wantto, um, you know, keep
in mind that and Auburn legend uhfor more for guard at Auburn while when
running I was there, General Whitepassed away on Tuesday. So um just
another great Uh that's kop with acity more of that, uh the all
(18:34):
time assisiently that that off for basketball, so um we lost a break one
on Tuesday. Deal appreciate that andI appreciate your words early. I know
folks, Uh Coach Briggs has keptup a lot with Davill I know where
as hard as and I appreciate allthat. Thanks for what you do.
That was really bad with it AllenI was, you know, and our
(18:55):
prayers goes to to the entire communityaround these all those effected. Um you
know, we we continue to prayfor the day Bowl and those communities and
and that surrounded and uh de Mark, I appreciate you keeping us abreast of
everything that was going on as well. Yes, sir, thank you,
