(00:00):
It is time to go to theHamilton's hotline, ladies and gentlemen. Hamilton's
has two locations to serve you onMagnolia and Ogletree, fine places to eat.
Good Man over there and George Spencingon that. And we're going to
Phoenix City, Alabama. And unfortunatelyfor me, we haven't talked to this
gentleman until about a year ago wherehe was sitting in the same spot.

(00:24):
He's the head coach of the CentralRed Devil baseball team A J. Kill.
Good morning coach, Good morning man. How y'all back? Man,
It's good. It's this You're liketime mix. You just keep on a
ticking coach. It's been a while, man, it has been a minute.
I'm gonna reach back out. Iguess they only love me. Come
on, come on. I feltso bad. But look, thank you

(00:48):
for calling. And congrats on aanother year, a fantastic year. Appreciate
it. Thank you very much. It's it's been exciting. It's definitely a
different team. Um and uh,you know, we had to go about
things a little bit differently, Isuppose, but uh, I mean that's
what that's what you get when you'rea high school coach. You know,
you dealing with sixteen, seventeen andeighteen year olds and not really be able

(01:14):
to pick and shoes exactly who youwant. You got to kind of adapt
a little bit. So but it'sbeen fun and it's been exciting, and
uh, we'll see if we can'tkeep it going a little bit. Yeah,
you've had a coming off of statechampion, last state championship last year
and man playing in a very difficultarea and only lost one game. It

(01:34):
the last game. You'd had itwrapped up, but you lost the last
game. You finished five and oneone last week in rare form, but
you got to go on the road, coach, which is interesting. Let's
go back a little bit kind ofgive us a summary of your team,
coach, since uh, well you'vegot some players and they've been playing well
and you've coached them up. Well, give us a little summary. Well,
we um, you know, we'vegot some return guys um, you

(01:57):
know, with with yak Kheimer Umand Carson Gilly. We've got some role
players that are returning, some juniorrole players that are that are very talented,
and Hunter whipperd and Landon beaver Um. We got the Bedford kid that's
back. He's his teenior commit withMonna Vallo. So we're we're talented,

(02:19):
UM and our guys really got someexperienced last year, UM, guys that
we needed to step in this yearand fulfill some roles. Of course,
we've got to transfer Colton Wombles, who's been a big addition for us and
he's really kind of a special talent. So UM, just team wise,
I think our lineup from top tobottom UM is just as strong and versatile

(02:43):
as it was last year. Um. You know, the biggest the biggest
difference was that we lost all ourpitching outside of Yasheimer, and we've really
had to develop some of our youngerkids and we really had to just work
and make sure they understood what theirstrengths were and just pitched their strengths a
little bit and make sure we takecare of the baseball behind them. So
uh but uh yeah, it's beenfun. Man, it's been fun.

(03:06):
It's a good group. They loveto compete, Um, they love to
have a good time. So anytimeyou have those two characteristics, UM,
you're gonna have a good team.Because man, it's a grind. You
put it in a lot of hours, a lot of work, that you've
really got to be able to havefun doing it. I ain't no doubt.
And when you and when it's timeto compete, you better have some
competitors on that field that hate tolose and and really love to get after

(03:30):
it, have a little bit ofa chip on her shoulder. And you
know you got that. Man.They're not always easy to coach some of
those personalities on a day in andday out basis. But when it's time
to compete, man, those arethe guys that you want on in your
in your club and on your cluband in your clubhouse and and getting after
it. Man, they'll say theywant them in the thoughts. So as

(03:53):
they say, right, yeah, absolutely absolutely, they bring a little ledge.
Do you know they keep they keepeverybody on their toes. You know,
there was a couple of people walkingaround on eggshells, you know,
worried about staying the wrong thing, and uh, but yeah, it's uh,
it's it's fun. It's fun ina lot of ways. So there
you go, good club. YeahA j Ko twenty nine and eight head

(04:15):
coach of the Red Devils, youtook care of your team, took care
of um Daphne last week coach.I mean, like, I mean nine
zero first game, eight one secondgame I'm talking about. I mean that
was a show enough whooping, coach, and send them right on back down
south in a hurry. They didn'teven have spend the night. They didn't
have to keep the lights on forhim, coach. Yeah, I know.

(04:36):
And it was we played well. You know, they had some good
arms. I thought we had agood plan. Um, they kept us
in check, um, you knowfor a little bit maybe one time through
or so. But I think thething that was probably most impressive for us
is, uh, you know, just you know, our starting pitching,
um really really stepped up. Wehad um trip Richard's Um, who you

(05:00):
know has been our number three maybemost of the year. I started him
in game one and probably had hisbest outing, although he's pitched extremely well
since the area play started. Umand then Brown. Oh, hold on,
coach, hold on, now backup. He went seven innings,
gave up two hits in one run. And how much has he pitched?
You said he's my number three. He did pretty sporting to be number three,

(05:25):
coach, So yeah, all right, no, he pissed great,
Yeah, he pitched. He pitchedout standing and really um Trips had some
fantastic numbers through them throughout the year. But since the area play, he's
been pitching really well. So wemoved him into that spot. The plan
was, you know, obviously withYaxheimer, to move him, move him

(05:47):
into the um you know, intothe second game. UM. You know,
I've you know, especially for thatseries. You know, I kind
of like our number one going inthe game two. Uh you know,
I just like the match up.I liked the factor could finish it.
But um, you know, goinginto the series, I told my staff,
I said, listen, I go, there's a good chance I don't

(06:08):
even pitch him. Um. Yeah, I'd love to be able to give
him a week a week off,um you know, if we if we
can, and we won that firstgame, UM, I felt confident with
what we had going um out therein game two and we were able to
give him a break. So thatkind of, you know, that lightened
his load a little bit for thesenext few weeks. UM. So I'm
glad that was we were able todo that. Yeah, you pick is

(06:30):
that roth Rick roth roth Rock?Okay, he went five innings, six
hit, snow runs, and thenwhipper Is that right? Yeah? Whipper
has been used out of the penthe majority of the years, had a
couple of bit starts. Beat Hooverum a starter. Um but but he's
thrown well out of the pen forus. So yeah. And roth Rock
is a tenth grader. Goodness yeah, so he uh he he pitched well,

(06:56):
he pitched well too. So howmany pitchers you got that you get
confident go out to and get yousome good innings or a w um?
I really, man, I likehaving at least ten every year that I
can jack and run out there.I think I've got I think we've actually
pitched fourteen during the course of theseason. Um, but I think there's
there's about eight of them that thatwe that I'm not afraid to go to

(07:20):
and that will certainly utilize if weif we would have to. Is this
coach Semo or is this coach Kio? Is this coach seems he's been known
to have a hundred pitchers too?I mean you know what I mean?
Yeah, I know Matt, Imean he does and Tommy and Matt well,
you know, I was messing withyou there. I wasn't trying to
do yeah. Yeah, But becausesome of them have obviously have more innings

(07:43):
than others. You know what Imean. I mean my tenth guy may
have you know, four innings onthe year. But yeah, it has
been used. Well, there yougo. A j Keio's with us.
He's the head coach of the RedDevils. Go ahead, you're about to
say something, I'll cut you off. I can't don't even know that.
I tell me this right. So, uh, this week you got to
go on the road. Okay, you go south, all right, So

(08:05):
tell us about the team, um, Baker, tell us about them.
Um, we're going to Enterprise,I mean Enterprise, missus play. I'm
sorry, coach. I was sittinghere looking at the pairings. Go ahead.
I was sitting there thinking, yeah, Bakers, Yeah, I'm an
idiot. I'm sorry. I waslooking at the No, you're not.
But you're playing Enterprise. It's upthere in age two. Now, man,

(08:26):
you playing Enterprise. Uh? Andthey are, um Enterprises. They
got a great club man. Theyplay really really well at home. They
got their new stadium. They're oneof the largest schools in the state of
Alabama. Whitton does a great jobwith them. They're well coached. Um,

(08:48):
they do some things offensively. Um. They've got an offensive identity,
so to speak. So they liketo put pressure on you. They'd like
to you know, safety squeeze. They like to hit and run. UM.
So there's some things that we've had, you know, make sure we
and touch on, you know, during the course of this week. UM.
But they got a good club.Um. Their their arms are solid.

(09:09):
Um. They've got two really goodstarters. UM. I think their
number two is just a sophomore, but he's already committed to Troy. UM,
so he's he's he's talented. UM. They've got an outfielder that was
committed to Troy and de committed,so he's going to Wallace of dot and
UM. They're athletic. Their catcheris committed to to Houston U University of

(09:33):
Houston and UM, so you knowthey're they're talented. Uh, will coached.
It'll be fun, man. Ourguys are excited about going down there.
Uh. Our guys kind of youknow, they kind of thrive off
of that. They love going inthose big environments. They don't shy away
from big moments, so they're excitedabout the opportunity. Are you looking forward
to going the road, coach?Yeah, I kind of am you know.

(09:56):
I mean it's a pain in thebutton making all these arrange. Yeah,
you know, I'm trying to finda place to head, trying to
find food, you know, allthis stuff I need. Uh uh and
then you know, in a classroomwith thirty thirty two kids at the same
time. So help, don't you, coach? You need an administrative assistant
over there? Yeah, where's that? Tell them to get me over a
coach. I'll light all that upfor you. I'll take care of that.

(10:20):
Listen. Uh. But I man, I like it. I think
it's a good little mixed I thinkour guys really get locked in on the
road since uh, you know, since I've been the head coach here,
we've we've we've played pretty well onthe road, you know, um in
these moments and uh so we're lookingforward to it. All right. Let
me ask you this, Are yougoing down early, coach, or will

(10:41):
you go the day of? Youknow I've seen teams go a day early.
Yeah, what are you thinking it'swe're with with it just being about
two and a half, we're gonnago down the morning of. Um.
If we're going to mobile, itwould definitely be a day before. UM.
But We're probably planning on leaving earlyin the morning, not early,

(11:01):
but we'll leave around ten o'clock ourtime. We'll probably hit I think the
Enterprise State is uh is gonna hostus something. We're gonna hit over there.
Um, we're gonna have lunch andthen we're gonna check into the hotel,
get a chance to get off ourfeet a little bit, you know,
take care of what we need totake care of, and get you
dressed and hop on the bus anduh go mix it up a little bit.

(11:26):
There you go. All right, are you ready, coach? Yeah?
Man, I'm ready. Ready,I'm getting there. I'm eating too
much, you know what I mean, gaining weight weight, man, I
mean not that I'm not that I'mskinny anyways, but you know I started
doing some much stress eating in theplayoffs. You're not right. You need
to come back over the park.I hadn't seen you this year. You

(11:48):
are you are? You still working? That's why I guess. Okay,
yeah, okay, that's right.Let me get done. Man. Well
we got a few more weeks beforeyou get done, hopefully. All right.
That's right, all right, Well, first safety apples to Enterprise and
take care of the wildcast and Iappreciate you calling this morning, and you
know I appreciate what you do,coach, and congratulations are absolutely thank you

(12:09):
all so much, you two.Coach hey, and I apologize for just
